Mark your calendars for 10/4 because my series Reborn in a Fighting Game with My Rival is launching as a premium Tapas novel!!!!
There's so much I wanna say about this because I'm so excited and terrified and have been working so hard since this summer on making this series the best I can make it. I'll save some of it til we get closer to launch (I cannot wait for people to see the cover oh my goodness)!
If you like yuri series like I'm in Love with the Villainess, you'll dig Reborn! Our main characters, the brash and cocky Amvery Astrell and the stoic and caring Louise Lumi, get isekai'd into their favorite fighting game about dragon shifters! It's got very gay rivals, a trans femme lead, dragons, wrestling, copious amounts of yuri, and so much more! I really hope you check it out when it launches 10/4!

Storyteller Saturday Challenge: Comps (pt. 2)
I'm trying to practice my comp writing for this Storyteller Saturday (finding comparable media to a project that publishers ask for), feel free to try this as well with your WIP!
REBORN IN A FIGHTING GAME WITH MY RIVAL is like if I'm In Love With the Villainess took place in a wrestling game with dragon shapeshifters.

Intro and my series/WIP list!
Why hello there new writer followers! (And non-writer followers you're welcome too ofc)
I'm Chiral, and right now (and for the foreseeable future!) I mainly write webnovels. I am a former editor at a children's book publisher and currently a freelance editor and librarian when I'm not writing. I have a degree in creative writing as well. You can find my Patreon page here! My main series is called Rising Shards, and it's a lot of genres mashed together!
Rising Shards
Genres: LGBT, slice of life, romance, fantasy, comedy, adventure
Synopsis: When Zeta Faleur suddenly grows fangs and creates a literal thunderstorm in her room, it can only mean one thing: She's a Cani. At Rising Shards, a Cani boarding school, she meets Oka Ohri, a kind hearted girl who she forms an immediate bond with.
Fresh out of ending a very bad relationship, Zeta isn't sure she's ready for her blossoming feelings for Oka, but as she works through those, she also must learn how to use a bloodsaber, fight monsters, fulfill requirements for a complicated scholarship, make new friends and new enemies, as well as keep up with all the other oddities in Cani life, she also has to learn if she's ready to move on from her sad past with her ex on her way to a potentially happier future with her crush.
(But Zeta and Oka aren't the only main characters, there are tons more because I really like writing stories with tons and tons of characters. This is really my heart and soul story, and my heart and soul story said to write something about lots of LGBTQ characters in love ;3)
Comparable stories: I'd say it's similar to Little Witch Academia, Adachi and Shimamura, Kase San, School Zone Girls, and Persona.
Update Schedule: New chapters Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays!
My side series is called Rising Shards: Evy & Stella, and it's a spicier 18+ story about two major characters from Rising Shards having a ✨spicier✨ time together.
Rising Shards: Evy & Stella
Genres: LGBT, slice of life, romance, comedy
Synopsis: After a fateful wintry evening, Stella Faleur and Dr. Evy Diast navigate their newfound relationship, as well as their complicated pasts.
Update Schedule: New chapters every Wednesday!
Reborn in a Fighting Game with My Rival
Genres: LGBT, romance, action fantasy, comedy
Synopsis: It should be a dream come true when Amvery Astrell wakes up in her favorite fighting game, Dragon Fighting Alliance, but her rival Louise Lumi is here too! Now the two longterm frenemies must battle in the action packed and sometimes convoluted story mode of their new world. Will the tensions building stay rooted in fighting, or is there something more between them?
Update Schedule: Updates Mondays and Fridays!
The Lost Hero
Genres: Action fantasy, LGBT
Synopsis: Myles and Kit Althea go on a quest to find three missing heroes who can save the world from a terrible evil. Though separated, the sisters each must travel through perilous lands in search of the heroes, uncovering secrets long hidden about the incredible powers the lost heroes wielded.
While my web novels are my priorities and my passion projects, I do have some other projects I'm working on and some ideas for stuff I'd like to do. I'm gonna keep this part updated as this changes, as my more nebulous story ideas change a lot.
My WIPs:
Collab project: A project I'm working on with my bestie, IDK how much to say about it at present but it's like Rising Shards in a way but in college with more of an action focus and more transgender, it's really wild and a blast to work on. There are elements to it that's not like any of my other projects and that's really exciting for me!
Wolves of Hope and Stardust: As I've talked about many times, I do wanna try a project that isn't a web novel, but is something more focused on potentially being traditionally published. I have also talked about maaaany times how tough the tradpub WIPs have been. I had a really fun idea for this one, but it's kind of on hold at the moment as my enthusiasm for it past that fun idea fizzled out a bit.
RS Patreon series: I am hoping to have some series for Patreon that expand the RS world. My first idea is a mystery series that's on the other side of the globe and focuses more on the darker side of the RS universe. I have some other ideas as well (see immediately below) of doing stuff in the RS world but separate from Zeta and co. so I can break my own rules a bit.
My maybe could be something someday things:
Falling Shards / RS universe expansion collab series: In Rising Shards, I mainly focus on the school for girls, but there's also a sibling school called Falling Shards for the boys (at present in narrative the school is working on a dorm for enbies/other genders so I don't wanna give the impression it's heavily binary enforcing), but I really rarely give any focus to the boys' school, and I think I just kind of suck at writing boys now so I think it'd be cool to find someone someday who after I bounce ideas off of and give them the overall world lore/rules to just let them go nuts and write stories at the boys' school and have more Cani adventures going on. A collab project wouldn't necessarily be this but Falling Shards seems the most immediate gap in the world that would be the easiest to fill. I'd had some ideas kicking around for this that I don't know if I'd be the best writer to handle outside of some big picture rules and such. And then maybe a crossover event would be fun. :3
So thank you again for following and I can't wait to see what you write too!! (Also I post a lot of anime and other random reblogs on here just a heads up in advance lol)

Happy STS! Does your world have the Olympics or something like it?
Oooh good question! Breaking it down by series/WIPs:
Rising Shards: There is probably some event for all athletes in the world, and one more specifically for Cani utilizing their powers.
Reborn: There's definitely an event where everyone in the world gathers and the dragon fighters do battle in a more celebratory event.
WOHAS: There may be one, but as of right now the world state is in a "evil reigns" so an olympic equivalent event might not be currently happening or it's very corrupted if so.

I'm at a little past the halfway point for writing the required chapters for Tapas (Reborn in a Fighting Game with My Rival, which you can read HERE) and am feeling a lil reflective already. I didn't know if I could have anything ready for a new series and was expecting to heavily rewrite some fanfics, but now I have about 24k words I wasn't expecting to have. A chunk of that is rewritten from old projects, but a lot of it is hard work putting a story outline I've had in my head forever onto the page. I'm really loving the two main characters, the wild disaster nerd Amvery and the driven and passionate also mega nerd Louise and their rivalry/friendship/something more? is really fun to write so far.
I was uncertain I'd be able to write so much, and was thinking I'd have to put RS on hiatus for a month to keep up if I wanted to enter this contest. But I also I feel like the biggest flex I can do would be to keep Rising Shards going the same, so my regular readers aren't losing out for a series they may not even want to read. With Reborn feeling more like work writing (not in a bad way, just in like writing a book to a specific chapter and word count set by someone else feels more like work, and I'm using my freelance editing time for it as well), Rising Shards feels like chill recovery writing, and I find myself really missing the RS crew when I get back to them, which is a nice feeling even if I'm not really spending any time away from them overall. I was feeling a bit burnt out on writing in general, but this project's given me a boost of creative energy having something new to work on which also in turn makes me want to keep making RS the best I can make it.
Having a big project like this is also helping me with my daily writing. I really like late night writing and had an hour set for it, but a lot of the time I'd be too tired to do it, so I'm trying to get the required writing for the day done earlier, and I think it's making me a lot more productive. Web novels in general greatly help my productivity as a writer I think. I have a set number of chapters I have to write and scheduled dates for them, so that helps me not slack off, and having feedback for each chapter available so fast is also a big motivator.
The scary obstacle now is getting readership on Reborn. Part of winning the contest is to have a lot of views and subs, and there are plenty in the contest with lots and lots of views, so naturally I immediately freaked out and worried this was all for naught already. But I have til the end of the year and I only just started uploading a few days ago so I have to remind myself it takes time.

Happy WBW! What are meals like in your world? Are they celebrations? Individual tasks? Is there a meal to rule them all?
I need to work on my food worldbuilding more I think...in Rising Shards I mostly just write fantasy snack ideas I find interesting mixed with fast food parodies. There is a special meal and drink during the Christmas type holiday.
For Reborn, since that's in a world of a sporting game (or maybe more accurately about characters isekai'd into a world that's exactly like their favorite sporting game), I want to do a thing where a lot of the food is just like arena food since the game takes place in arenas.

Happy STS! Your characters are making their Christmas lists. What's on it?
For Rising Shards:
Zeta: Lots of toys and merch for her fav Raina Starlight, cute girlie clothes
Oka: She has to be reminded to make a list and is like "I can just make a list of things I want? That's allowed?" (Rough childhood)
Kalei: Lots and lots of video games
Lillia: Books, video games
For Reborn:
Amvery: Lots of gaming stuff (so many of my characters are gamers lmao), nerdy junk
Louise: Sportswear, (shocker) games, manga, lns, movies

That tradpub post has me thinking about my tradpub cycle. I mainly indie publish web novels, but there is a desire to write something for tradpub. Sometimes it's just the feeling of a longterm dream to get a story picked up by a publisher, sometimes it's being in a book club and having an ego moment of like "what if something I wrote was something people here would read," sometimes it's me just wanting to take on that challenge. And as I've posted about plenty here before, it would definitely be a challenge.
-It would have to be something less precious than my other series, something I'd be willing to accept major changes to in the name of marketability, from titles, plot lines, characters, etc.
-Writing something marketable is tough for me. Or at least marketable in the sense of something a lit agent would see and want. I've been reading more currently published fantasy stuff and I think I could do it, but...
-Whenever I get too cynical about things like lit agent tastes and marketability, the story just withers. I think I know the components of a story that could be marketable and such, but could I write it without feeling really bad? I've tried to write marketable stuff in the last few years and it just stalled out completely. I'd have to write it differently than all my other stuff, and that seems like a fun challenge, writing with different creative muscles is something I've been trying to crack. I think if I figure out how to map it out and kind of pre write it, while still keeping that spark of fun, that could help greatly
That said, a lot of the time I get the tradpub itch it does make me very happy I chose indie for Rising Shards (and Reborn, but that's a contest entry so I'm not sure if that's the same vibe as indie entirely?) One of the reasons I love independently putting my stuff out there is to be in complete control of my stories, to put them out to my vision for better or worse. With Rising Shards I'm building an audience nad people like it too, and I don't know if anyone would like the tradpub version of Rising Shards.
I still have that itch to try a new story for tradpub (or an old one with WOHAS if I can get that draft together) but I also am glad I have my babies to fall back on when attempted tradpub work gets too stressful.

Happy WBW! A nature-related question today: what do the seasons of your world look like? Does the temperature change? Do leaves or leaf-fill-ins change color and fall? Does the ground turn over and hibernate?
RS I tend to base seasons on the midwest US; it's a different world but our mains live in a similar climate so winters can be pretty harsh but seasons overall are similar to Earth's.
RIAFGWMR is a game isekai so I think the game's story mode may affect weather patterns, like suddenly it'll be winter because you hit a certain date in the story mode, then suddenly it's spring and the snow is all gone, that sort of thing.
WOHAS I'd like to have some wackiness to the weather, in building on the old drafts I'd like to add more world building and I think having unique weather patterns and seasons could help there.
#wbw#worldbuilding wednesday#i'm catching up on these finally!!!#sorry for the delay#chiral writes#rising shards#wohas#riafgwmr#writeblr

Reborn Character Bios!
Here are bios of the two mains of my new series, Reborn in a Fighting Game with My Rival, which you can read here!
Amvery Astrell
Age: 18
Bio: Brash and obnoxious, Amvery (pronunciation: AHM-vree) is a dragon shifter fighting for DFA. She is excited about being in the world of her favorite game and doesn’t want to spend time worrying about how she got there. Louise was her gaming rival in her old life and that carries on here.
Louise Lumi
Age: 18
Bio: Louise was a hard working student in her old life, competing in multiple sports and having some of the best grades in her school. She is a giant nerd for DFA, especially learning about the development and cut content and is thrilled to be in its world. She is a trans girl, and despite their constant rivalry, Louise is forever grateful to Amvery for being an ally in their old life when she needed it most.
Like the other fighters in the game, Amvery and Louise are dragon shifters, who turn into full dragons for their finishing moves, and possess dragon tails no matter the form. Amvery has a bigger tail with emerald scales, and Louise has a slimmer one with cerulean scales.
