The Ziegfeld Theatre has finally shown its last movie and it closed as a theater this past Thursday. Warning: long post is long.

So thanks to one of our local radio stations, I got two tickets to the Rocky Horror Picture Show at our little theatre. I assumed we'd have terrible seats due to winning them in a draw, and these fears were deepened by being right next to a little old lady who I assumed was dragged there by a younger relative.

Two seconds into the picture, she screams at the top of her lungs-- which Lizzie and I joined in, once we clued in what she was saying-- "A LONG, LONG TIME AGO, IN A GALAXY FAR, FAR AWAY, GOD SAID LET THERE BE LIPS. AND THERE WERE LIPS. AND THEY WERE GOOD." We were sat next to a hardcore fan who, like us, hadn't enough time to throw together a costume (though many people had; roughly seventy percent of the audience was dressed as Magenta).

This little old lady knew every. Fucking. Audience moment. And while many other people contributed, guess who stared almost every round of chanting, every catcall to Asshole and Slut, every doo-wop and clap?

That's right: Lizzie, the little old lady, and myself. In other words, a little old lady who probably went to the original premiere of the movie back in '75, and two kids who have seen this movie with the audience participation track roughly a thousand times.

(And the little old lady mouthed every last word of the movie to herself when she wasn't calling out or shedding a tear for Frank's death. I am ashamed to say we never got her name, as she vanished the moment the house lights went up.)

Unfortunately, we had no costumes or props due to only finding out we'd won the tickets the morning of. And anyways, the ushers confiscated bags of rice from certain members of the audience (only the rice, though).

All in all, the best night of the year so far. I may have thrown myself into the Time Warp so much that I almost passed out for real at the end, and I may have come home with a hoarse throat and a pounding headache, and I may have stolen a flush of cards from the theatre floor, but it was all worth it.

I fucking love Hallowe'en.
