Album Review: SweetSexySavage

With SweetSexySavage Kehlani solidifies herself as a worthy leader of the new-new school.

When the album’s title was revealed, following the release of the heavy-hitting single “Distraction,” it became clear that the singer would channel 90s and early 2000s R&B- SweetSexySavage a direct nod to TLC’s CrazySexyCool. An intoxicating mix of old-school bounce, acoustics, and synths the album screams throwback while also remaining modern and versatile. Kehlani takes listeners on journey of finding, not perfection, but pieces of her truth. Each track gives a familiar, yet signature, take on love, heartbreak, triumph, and independence. 

The album kicks off with a spoken word piece written and voiced by, Los Angeles native, Reyna Biddy assuring listeners that this project will ultimately be a story of triumph and self worth. It’s followed by the plucky, bass-driven track “Keep On,” which question her suitors persistence and gives us the savage side she eludes to in the album’s title. “Piece of Mind,” my personal favorite, details the singers journey towards overcoming heartbreak and learning to find value in the struggle. The song’s refrain, “I am,” is reminiscent of “As I Am,” a track from her debut mixtape Cloud 19.

With 19 tracks in total Parrish presents a well-rounded and super detaile body of work, full of visceral lyrics and her signature silvery tones. As Kehlani’s first proper release via Atlantic Records, this project is a sure win for the young, Grammy-nominated artist and sets a high bar for the 2017 releases that will follow.

The Program That Has Seen Thousands Of Women Transform Their Bodies

For thousands of women, the thought of restrictive diets and competitive gym workouts can be daunting.

But with more than two-thirds of Australians aged over 18 either overweight or obese, many feel as though they have no choice but to adopt a strict health regime.

Thankfully, this is not the only solution.

Enter The Healthy Mummy, the health and wellness website and community that has seen thousands of women completely transform their bodies – all without giving up their favorite treats.

‘This has taken me 18 months so far but I’m finding slow and steady is keeping it off and preventing loose skin so far,’ said Shantelle (pictured), who has lost 33kg

The $20million empire is the brainchild of mother-of-two Rhian Allen, who is 2010 was pregnant with her first baby and frustrated to find there was no national support system to help women ‘shape up’ or get healthy after giving birth.

The Sydney-based entrepreneur researched the possibility of creating a safe and healthy plan of her own before taking a leap of faith and quitting her corporate job of 12 years, selling her house and investing every dollar she owned into the idea.

Eight years on and the company is now the biggest ‘mums only’ healthy eating and weight loss program in the world and Ms. Allen has just launched her book, The Busy Mum’s Guide to Weight Loss.

The program itself works by inspiring women through 28 Day Weight Loss Challenges which see them lose, on average, five kilograms per month – some through diet alone.

Home workouts are encouraged, smoothie packs are on offer and the recipes themselves include nutritious versions of traditionally indulgent foods like burgers, pasta, chips, and pizza.

The results speak for themselves, with a combined three million kilograms lost by clients since the business’ launch – and the women didn’t have to give up foods they love or do extreme exercise.

The mother-of-two, from Nambucca Heads, New South Wales, had been overweight for as long as she could remember and had simply ‘stopped caring’ about eating well or exercising.

Speaking to FEMAIL previously, Ms. Goodwin said she first came across the company while pregnant and in the space of her pregnancy, had seen women transform their bodies and lifestyles for the better.

‘It got to a point where I became addicted to fast food and every day I was eating takeaway for multiple meals – things like KFC and McDonald’s – and massive amounts of soft drink,’ she said.

‘I was also drinking up to 10 coffees per day and eating a lot of food at a time; even if it wasn’t junk I would pile my plate up and eat until I was complete, uncomfortably full.’

Motivated to make a change, she started out by having smoothies twice a day with fruit and following the plans before starting the challenges and doing strength and body weight exercises in her living room.

‘I was really learning so much about food and how it can be enjoyable and healthy. I never went overboard I just chose healthy and easy recipes and when I exercised I would pop the kids in a pram and go for a walk,’ she said

Ms. Goodwin, who lost the first 30 kilograms with a healthy diet alone, said it took her a while to truly see how far she had come with her weight loss as she had spent so long being unhappy with herself.

‘People think you need to do drastic things like that but I have found this to be so much more realistic and I can do it all at home,’ she said.

With so many success stories, Ms. Allen hopes to continue to evolve the brand and reach more mums around the world.

‘Everything we do is from a grassroots perspective and building our community and trust with a customer first approach is how we run the business,’ she said.

‘It feels so good to know that we are positively impacting the health of so many mums every single day,’ she said.
