Ok, I take back what I said earlier about liking seeing the mind of these bad guys. It’s terrible and I’d like it to stop. O is disgusting. Rhage’s (and I’m still not over the spellings in these books) curse is a great tragedy. I like that he did something to deserve it—unlike Mary, he has some fault for it. On the other hand, the Scribe Virgin is definitely a jerk. But…once he’s told her he’s a vampire, and all the lesser stuff, why exactly does he hold back on explaining that he turns into an out of control monster and that’s why he isn’t having sex with her? I mean…does he think it’s gonna flip her out…more than she already is? Also, he has zero leg to stand on regarding Mary not being open. He claims her as basically shellan, but just won’t talk about the (literal) monster in the room with them??? I just lost someone yesterday to a blood cancer, so this was a tough read at some points, because I could really relate to her as she deals with cancer recurrence. I love how he addresses her scars and the way her illness has marked her body with reverence and adoration. Looking at that and realizing how strong she is, instead of thinking they make her weak, is a wonderful thing. Actually, I like a lot of the disability representation. Muteness, serious illness, blindness, autism. Ok, getting more about Zsadist than just scary stuff is pretty cool. Also I only just figured out who John is at the 76% mark. My heart sank so badly when I got to the bargin and realized how little was left in the book, and Rhage’s sacrifice was so painful and loving. Absolute agony. Also I would like to amend my earlier statement—the Scribe Virgin is an asshole. Like, with Rhage’s punishment that was really a punishment for all of them? I appreciate she changed her mind here, but the reason for it—something that hadn’t come up as an issue for either of them at any point, and without which she was willing to condemn Rhage to be Forever Alone—is all types of f’d up. I’ll take the happy ending! But holy cow they need a new religion.

Bottom line: I really like Mary. I love Rhage falling for her, it’s nicely angsty and super hot. I’m sucked into this series now.

Black Dagger Brotherhood

The library has me on hold for the next few Elder Races novels (😭) so I’m forging ahead with the series that keeps getting recommended on the covers! First time reader, just my thoughts and take aways.

Dark Lover

I don’t want to say Wrath is pussy-whipped, because I don’t care for the term, but he does ask Beth to marry him immediately after she feeds from him just once, so….

I wasn’t sure how I would feel about this pretty gritty modern-day vampire story, but I am really warming up to it. I also did not get why liking this series meant you’d also like Elder Races, but by the end I get that too. I like that we get to see in the mind of the bad guy (I mean, it’s terrible, but I appreciate a story that lets us see how the other side views and justifies their actions). I like that Wrath is blind, and despite not having other compensatory super powers (beyond what another warrior would have) he’s still capable, a full part of the team. It’s not a handicap, just a feature. I am so incredibly happy Butch and Marissa fall for each other, after all their rejections, even if they’re going to take forever to get together. It’s funny how the vampires talk about fighting the undead, and they don’t mean themselves. Have to keep reminding myself what vampire means here. Feral Beth at the end protecting Wrath was awesome. I kinda get the hype, and I want to read the next one. But oh my god, the names and the way they are spelled in the books might do me in.

Also, Taylor Napier was going to be playing Rhage (see how it all comes back to WoT after all?) and now I know there is a tv show coming and I’m gonna have to watch it even if it’s terrible.

Bottom line: I think I’m gonna like this series.

Muses and Updates

There's quite a few new muses that have come along because this family is forever growing (no one can keep it in their pants and I just have too many ideas), as well as a muse who is connected but she's in a different dimension and only certain muses know of her existence. I'll be working on their full bios but for now here's a list and quick overview of them:

Shane - vampire

The son of Phury and the Chosen Aisha, he has a twin sister named Shaylin. The boy is a certified himbo, he is frequently told, "thank goddess you're pretty."

Lhyric - vampire

Daughter of Zsadist and his Shellan Stephanie, she also has a twin. Lhyric is the more outspoken one and definitely takes after her father.

Rhyme - vampire

Daughter of Zsadist and his Shellan Stephanie, Lhyric's twin. She is the eldest of the two and much more soft spoken and shy. Rhyme is less confident and tends to steal her brother's clothes often.

Ahriman - demon

The youngest of the Al Harb siblings (Zsadist, Phury, Arachne), he was raised along side his nieces and nephews as some of them are actually older than him. One word: WILD

Pazuzu - demon

Another original demon, he is the opposite of Lamashtu (Vida), known as a protector against other demons despite being destructive and dangerous.

Murhder - vampire

Another Brother of the Black Dagger Brotherhood. Coming back from a hundred year punishment of being exiled. Phury's "best friend" and fellow playboy.

Eiríni - vampire

The only girl of 7 children but was raised the same way as her brothers which caused her to have a tomboy personality. Only time she is truly feminine is when she dances or is screwing a guy.

Dominus - bear shifter

Trouble maker, he stuck around after tracking down Zsadist to notify him of his brother's death (who happened to be a past lover of Z's). He's all about fun and there's plenty of him to go around.

Immaru - vampire

Currently, he's the youngest child of Zsadist and his Shellan Stephanie. Immaru is the one who keeps everyone on their toes, you never know what he's going to say or do. The one you take off speaker when he calls.

Konnor - wolf shifter

The youngest of Rhage and his mate Iris, and he definitely plays into being the youngest, he is spoiled and his siblings are forever fighting him for it.

Thalia - human

Best friend of Christos since grade school, trained dancer. Her and her family are one of the last humans in Greece who walk along side with the supernatural beings.

Amerétat - vampire

She is in an alternate dimension from my muses. The muses that are aware of her existence are Lilith (as Amerétat is her perfect incarnate), Vida, and Arachne. Quirky and a killer as she is apart of her dimension's "Black Dagger Assassins".

The struggle is real, unfortunately

Why can’t I find someone as intelligent as Vishous, as much of a  smartass as Butch, as caring as Phury, as lethal as Wrath, as calm as Tohrment, and as scary as Zsadist, but is handsome as Rhage and someone who has the style of Qhuinn all in one person?

Ah, I see now how each book is going to be focused on a different warrior (or maybe just person, I haven't gotten that far yet lol). I'm here for Rhage and Mary, although with the way this story started, I wasn't expecting the ending. Personally, I'm not a huge fan of the whole "I escaped death thing" and I think the story would've been better and more complex if Rhage and Mary grappled with their time being cut short. Maybe I just don't like happy endings lol. On that note, I really liked Rhage's development. From how he went from Hal and erasing memories to Mary meeting and lowkey taming his beast. The beast concept gives me Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde vibes, as anything with dual personalities does. Also, can I just say that the Scribe Virgin is an asshole? I really do not like that woman. Anyways, the smut was a good 7/10 and the plot was a 6/10. I'm very fond of Butch and I love how he's bonded with these alpha male vampire types out of nowhere.
