Summary: After having some hot chocolate at a coffee shop, Priscilla waits for the bus back to her dorm room, when she realizes she forgot her umbrella. Luckily, someone has her covered.

It was cold and rainy – basically, the opposite kind of day that Priscilla typically enjoyed.

That was the reason she had decided to go to The Silo today. She’d been hounded by her best friend Lucy about visiting the coffee shop. The hyperactive girl hardly needed the additional caffeine in her diet, but Lucy still visited the place almost daily, despite it being somewhat out of the way.

Even though there were plenty of similar establishments near their university that Priscilla herself had frequented, Lucy swore that The Silo had the best of everything. Especially their hot chocolate.

Priscilla had a severe sweet-tooth, which some would say bordered on obsession. Priscilla thought it odd to ride the bus from their dorm to visit The Silo, only to have to ride back to make it to their first class in the morning. Nonetheless, her friend’s persistence eventually won out, and Priscilla decided to try the place out.

“Brr! It’s so chilly today.” Priscilla shuffled over to the bus stop, eyeing the bench. Rubbing her hands together and blowing on them, she hurried over and claimed a seat. She pulled her phone out of her coat pocket and texted Lucy that she was on her way back. A few moments later, she received a confirmation from her roommate, saying that she’d meet Priscilla at the bus stop in front of their dorm.

Priscilla pocketed her phone quickly, not wanting the cold droplets to collect on the screen. When Lucy had finally convinced her to go, the roommate had quickly realized that she had forgotten to finish up a homework assignment that was due today. Priscilla wasn’t surprised, but she did think it odd that Lucy had insisted that she go to The Silo without her.

Priscilla had assured her friend that she could wait, but with the back and forth of transportation, it would most likely make them either late to class, or feel rushed at The Silo, which wasn’t the first-time experience Lucy wanted her to have.

Which was why Priscilla sat on the bench alone, hoping that the bus would arrive sooner rather than later. She had checked the time on her phone earlier, and as long as the bus arrived when it was scheduled to, she shouldn’t have any problem making it to class.

Really feeling the rain, which was falling at an increasingly faster rate, Priscilla rummaged through her purse, feeling for her umbrella. She felt everything else – wallet, room key, make-up, a calculator for her math classes – but not her umbrella.

“Drat!” she cursed to herself. She must have left it at The Silo. She’d been so distracted making it to the bus stop in time that she must’ve forgotten it on the table.

She weighed her options. She would probably have enough time to run back and fetch it, but what if the bus happened to be early? If she missed this one, she would definitely be late, which, though not a big deal for many, was a big deal for her. She would rather die than have to feel the entire class’s eyes on her as she slowly slinked over to her seat. Her professor was nice, but they tended to make jokes, so she was sure that they’d make a comment at her expense.

So, she decided to just wait it out. Hopefully, The Silo would hold onto it for her, and she could come back tomorrow with Lucy to pick it up.

The rain was starting to soak into her hair, the pink strands sticking to her face. As she breathed more heat onto her hands, she noticed that the breath itself was visible. It was late autumn, which was why she was wearing a coat. However, it didn’t have a hood, so she was unable to cover her head, which was starting to get uncomfortably damp.

“Whew! I made it.” The sudden voice caused Priscilla to jump and look up towards to source. All she saw was pink.

“Um, hello?”

The stranger must have realized that Priscilla couldn’t seem them past the umbrella. “Oh! Sorry about that! I was just so excited that I caught up to you.” The stranger’s voice was bright and warm, the complete opposite of the current weather. They moved the umbrella slightly so that they could sit next to her, both of them being protected from the rain.

“C-Caught up to me?” Had this person been stalking her? She hadn’t felt anyone’s eyes on her, but she had been somewhat distracted making it back to the bus stop. She met the stranger’s eyes, which were a vibrant green.

“Yeah! I mean, Scarlett noticed that you had forgotten your umbrella at The Silo, so I ran over to catch up to you. I guessed you were headed for the bus, and turns out I was right! Lucky, huh?” The stranger laughed, and now that Priscilla realized where this person was from, she calmed down a bit.

She looked closer at the stranger, and took in the rest of her. Her hair was blonde, and was partially covered by a pink cap that was so dark, some might consider it red. She had a matching apron, with a white t-shirt and black pants. Definitely a barista.

“Thank you very much for… returning my umbrella.” Priscilla reached out a hand to take it so that the other woman could leave, but the barista moved her hand away before she could.

“Of course! But please, let me hold it for you, at least until your bus comes.” The woman smiled at her. It was so bright and cheerful that Priscilla couldn’t help smiling back.

“Okay. Thank you.”

“Ah, I should probably introduce myself.” The woman laid her free hand on her chest. “I’m Alice! I’m a barista at The Silo. Scarlett is my coworker, and she was the one who served you.”

Ah. So that’s who this Scarlett was. She remembered a woman with serious red eyes and light blue hair tied back into a ponytail. Her uniform had been the same as Alice’s, though instead of pink, it had been green. Maybe to denote a rank or seniority?

“She had her hands full, so she ordered– er, told me to get this back to you.” Alice chuckled, her cheeks a light pink.

“Well, Alice, thank you for taking the time to deliver this to me. I’m very grateful.” She felt like she was saying ‘thank you’ too much, but she couldn’t think of what else to say. Lucy was usually by her side, and she tended to be the active communicator either between themselves or with other people.

Alice nodded. Her blush deepened as she looked up and down at Priscilla, her green eyes roaming. Priscilla felt her own face redden as the two said nothing.

The barista finally met her gaze once more, and her smile widened. “Tell me if I’m barking up the wrong tree here, but you’re really pretty. Especially with that rainswept look you’ve got going on.”

Oh! So that’s why she’d been staring. To be honest, Priscilla herself had been staring a bit, but she had thought it was just because this woman was so energetic, that it was hard to look away.

Maybe it had been for another reason?

 “Th-Thank you. You’re… pretty too.” Priscilla looked away. Had the bus shown up yet?

She heard Alice laugh. “Why thank you! I try.” Priscilla looked back. “Though, it’s hard to look attractive when I’m wearing a barista uniform.”

“N-Nonsense, you look attractive!” Realizing what she had just said, Priscilla’s eyes widened. “I-I mean, you look pretty regardless of what you’re wearing.”

Priscilla sat there, wishing that the bus would not only arrive, but run her over after such a blatant verbal misstep. Alice was just being nice, a barista serving her customer, but Priscilla had been so flattered that she’d said too much.

Alice watched her, her smile melting into one of… contentment? Good, maybe she hadn’t really noticed how she’d said she was attractive. Maybe she’d thought it was just reiterating that the barista uniform didn’t detract from her appearance, rather than an admittance of… something more.

“Hey, don’t worry so much. I asked if I was barking up the wrong tree for a reason.” Alice gently placed her free hand on Priscilla’s, rubbing her thumb across the backs of her fingers. “I think you’re attractive too. I should have been more straightforward. My uh… ‘game’ could use some work, or so I’ve been told.” Her voice had turned to an annoyed mutter at the end. Huh. Sounds like her friends had teased her about it.

The feel of a warm hand on hers, as well as Alice’s self-deprecating response, made Priscilla’s chest flutter in a bubbly sort of way. Before she knew it, she was giggling. “Your ‘game’ seems perfectly adequate to me. I’m just… not great around people, so I find it hard to pick up cues sometimes.”

“I see. Well, that’s good. I knew you had to have some sort of flaw, since you’re so beautiful and kind. It wouldn’t be fair to have it all!” Alice laughed, squeezing her hand.

“You seem to be very unfair if that’s the case,” Priscilla responded. She surprised herself with how smooth that had come out.

Alice’s eyes widened. “Pretty, kind, and flirty? I think I just hit the jackpot!” She moved her hand off of Priscilla’s, and reached into her apron pocket. She pulled out her phone and unlocked it. “If it’s not too much to ask, could I get your number? I’d love to talk with you more, maybe over a cup of…?”

“Hot chocolate.” Priscilla filled in the blank for her. A small smile formed on her face. “Sure.” She reached out and took Alice’s phone, entering her contact information into it.

She handed it back, and saw Alice’s eyes scan over the screen. “Priscilla…” she sounded out the name. She almost purred it, and Priscilla felt her heartbeat quicken slightly. “I’ll remember that.”

The two stared at each other, until Priscilla noticed Alice look over her head. “Great timing!” Priscilla turned her gaze towards what Alice was staring at, and saw that the bus was slowly pulling up to the curb.

Alice handed Priscilla her umbrella. “I’ll text you later, ‘kay?” She winked.

Priscilla swallowed thickly, practically forcing a response out of her throat. “O-Okay.”

She stood up, closing the umbrella as she walked up to the bus, its doors slowly opening. As she climbed the steps and got situated into a seat, she looked out the window to see Alice looking at her. The barista waved, and Priscilla gave a small wave back.

As the bus drove away from the curb, Priscilla watched as Alice turned and made her way back to, presumably, The Silo.

Sighing contentedly, Priscilla leaned back into her seat, and closed her eyes.

End Author’s Note: I haven’t really written a character that just comes out and says they’re attracted to someone, so this was fun to write. Hope you enjoyed!

ok happy wip wmonday this is mostly rune factory ft. one (1) romijuli. most of these did not escape the sketch phase (and the two that did... did not get far, as pictured) but they're all things i had intent to complete at some point.

commentary is below the cut if anyone is curious about my thoughts on anything i've drawn here

for piece commentary..... well first off i also had a shara/sofia sketch that got corrupted bc sai loves doing that at random and it's part of why i want to move away from using it :-( second off

(drops to my knees) PLEASEP PLEASE PLEASE.... CONSIDER PIA/RAVEN..... PLEEEEEEEASE oh the things i could say about those two regarding their own isolation / alienation due to being nonhuman and how despite the fact they've both found a place for themselves they still feel Othered and Lonely at the core. i think they could work on that together once raven gets out of her shell a little bit. the meeting of sea and sky. fire and water. please understand. (the one w raven in bird form is actually even based on the caelum et ocean story set from love nikki bc it made me think of them LOL)

dolce/forte is also like... please consider them. there's something really funny about the knight who's afraid of ghosts and the ghost whisperer. but i also think they have really compatible personalities and forte's generally headstrong nature could go well with dolce's quieter way of doing things. i think dolce would find flustering her funny. but not in like... a harassing way. just in a way where she knows how to make her blush a little bit. i like them

romijuli..... well you see (i open my mouth and begin screaming) (i do not stop screaming) (if you listen closely enough you can detect a garbled string of sounds that loosely translates to 'READ PERFORMANCE')

for the 5 doodles.... priscilla ended up being my favourite rf5 girl to my immense surprise LOL so i developed a habit of sketching her a lot in 2022. fat priscilla. please understand. reblog. i also really liked priscilla/lucy at first bc they're like... obvious, and while my interest in them waned for various reasons (one being a lamentation that they'd become The One Femslash Pairing^tm of the game where people don't really consider anything else bc they have that one...) i still like that doodle.

and lastly. ray and alicia r my favourite sibling steup in all of rf and i think they're both transgender. i hope this helps. (idk solidly what direction i see ray as trans in but whatever the case. ray is not cis to me. love and light)

I'm curious about a bunch of these so I'll just ask the bunch together:

Whose ur favorite bachelorette(s), non romanceable chara, monster, non-mc otp and a headcanon you have?

Oh boy this is gonna be a doozy of an answer lol

Fav bachelorette — I’m super gay for (most of) the guys, so honestly none of the bachelorettes appealed to me as marriage candidates. That said, I really identify with Lucy’s whole arc and feeling disproportionately responsible for my loved ones. I especially like when these characters actually get a chance to take care of themselves. Sure, I don’t exactly like the way RF5 goes about it (the forced truth mirror was kind of heavy handed and took away her agency…), but everything else was nice. My runner ups are Beatrice and Scarlett. Bea is just a sweetheart, I have nothing bad to say about her. As for Scarlett, well, I got attached to her because she became such an important supporting character in my fic. I didn’t intend for her to be the closest thing Ari has to a best friend, but she surprised me.

Fav non-romanceable character — Heinz, hands down. That goofball has a terrible first impression in-game and he’s really done dirty by only being characterized by his ineptitude and lazy attitude, but man, I’ve gotten so attached to him because of his role in my fic. I was really able to develop his backstory and personality into exactly what I wanted since there was so much room for reinterpretation. Before I started this fic, though, I probably would have said Terry or Misasagi. Both of them have good heads on their shoulders, and I like the mysteries they represent.

Fav monster — Chipsqueek! Those little red squirrels are the cutest dang thing on the planet. They’re kind of useless as a battle companion, but I like bringing them around with me just because anyway. Also, in every RF game I’ve played (Frontier, rf5, and currently rf3 special), I’ve named the first one I’ve caught Poppy.

Non-MC otp — I’m a multishipper, so I won’t say there’s only one way I like characters to be shipped. That said, I’m particularly fond of Cecil/Fuuka (thank you Aashi for selling me on them!) and Martin/Ryker. For other pairings, I think Lucy/Priscilla is cute, but I’d be really interested to see Priscilla/Reinhard (Priscilla gets to live out her princess dreams) and Lucy/Murakumo (competitive bleeding heart plus the expert judge of games). Outside my fic, I also love Lucas/Terry (courtesy of @kardia-library-official for introducing me to the idea).

A headcanon — oof I have so many at this point, it’s hard for me to remember what’s actually canon and what’s stuff I’ve dumped into all of its plot holes. I think a big one for worldbuilding is that I named the town that’s near Rigbarth (the one that Ryker goes to when he steals that crown). It’s called Fenarva, which is sort of a portmanteau based on the names of all of the other villages/towns of Norad. I imagine Fenarva is closer in size to a city, and it has ports for regular ships and airships. They get travelers from the mainland, Isle of Elves (this also needs a name), the Eastern Continent (gods please Marvelous give us an actual name for this country when Project Dragon is released), and Fenith Island. Most of the tourists who visit Rigbarth come from Fenarva, too, since it’s only about half a day’s trip to get from one town to the other (well, travel takes longer now because of the recent increase in monster attacks…). Rigbarth’s economy really relies on these folks and the people from the other side of the Gadeus Grasslands too (still need to put another town over there too). Also, for everybody else writing fics based on RF5, y’all are free to use Fenarva, too.

I have other, more interesting headcanons especially about gods in general and what sort of god Lucas is, but a lot of it gets into spoiler territory. Unfortunately for all of us, however, I have yet to figure out how to work in these things into my fic. It’ll come up eventually, somehow, but probably not until late Act II or somewhere in Act III. I hope y’all can bear with me until then.

you know, a really random praise i have for RF5?

is that RF5 has my favorite Plain Girl

like, every game except for 4 has one romanceable girl who's just... really normal. she's clearly supposed to be the default love interest, especially since in 1-3, she was very prominently on the boxart.

RF had Mist, RF2 had Mana, RF3 had Shara... and RF5 has Priscilla.

and here's the thing. Mist, Mana, and Shara were absolutely never characters i ever considered romancing. i didn't hate them or anything- i even liked having Shara around as a friend quite a bit- but there just wasn't enough to any of them for me to consider them as serious prospects. they were the boring option.

(which is honestly surprising if you know me- historically, i've got a tendency to get really incredibly attached to the more plain characters in series' that have otherwise more bright and colorful casts. look at my obsession with Tsugumi Hazawa from Bandori. but in Rune Factory 1-3, the Plain Girl just kinda faded into the background for me.)

but Priscilla in Rune Factory 5? she's battling neck-and-neck with Ludmila for the title of my Second Favorite Bachelorette (Lucy's easily snagged first place). she's WILDLY likeable

See my favourite Finnish gremlin Käärijä live again 😅💚 Would depend on him doing another European tour, but he seemed to enjoy the first one so fingers crossed 🤞

14) Favourite book you read this year?

I don't have a standout favourite from this year, but some of the books I read that stuck with me are 'All Quiet on the Western Front' by Erich Maria Remarque, 'Young Mungo' by Douglas Stuart, 'Babel' by RF Kuang and 'Black Butterflies' by Priscilla Morris. I tend to love books that succeed in breaking my heart 😅

20) What's something you learned this year?

I'm technically still in the process of learning this, but how to drive! Passed my theory test and have so far managed not to crash while out in the car, so hopefully I'll be able to earn my full licence in 2024...

What's your view on the "Canon" wives for the player in RF, RF2, Frontier, RF3 and Oceans? Personally found all but Oceans dull

I think they're fine, but not necessarily needed. I think a lot of them would have been better received if they weren't canon, and just other girls in town.

RF1: I do love Mist, especially because she's the oddball in town to begin with. She's nice but super weird at times, which is a treat.

RF2: Mana's my least favorite out of the canon bachelorettes only because of Douglas. It felt like he was waving a huge flag over her status and it annoyed me so much.

RFF: I think it's Mist again, so same opinion as in RF1, except she's less of an odd one out now because there are some eccentrics in Trampoli. For some reason I always get confused on whether canon girl is Mist or Iris Blanche/Noise.

RF3: Shara gets way more hate than she deserves due to the developers pushing the canon girl thing WAY too hard. Which is odd because in game, it doesn't seem like too much until you marry any bachelorette other than Shara. I think she's sweet and really needs canon status taken away so more people can appreciate her.

RFO: I've said I love all Oceans characters and that includes Aden and Sonja. They definitely have the best dynamic with each other and are stuck together for the whole game, so it's the only canon girl/boy situation that doesn't feel forced to me? They have a close bond regardless if they're romantic or not, and I think that's neat.

Anyway I'm glad they stopped with the canon girl thing. I do wish they put a more even focus on all marriage candidates in marketing though. Even though RF5 does not have a canon girl/boy...it was clear to everyone with eyes that Priscilla was the canon one based on marketing alone.

So, what your thoughts so on Rune Factory 5 far (US people right now, I guess😅)? Rune Factory 4 Special was my first RF game and I absolutely loved it. The graphics in RF5 are a little weird, but I think it’s because I’ve been playing a lot of Friends of Mineral Town recently! The more I play, the more I’ll get used to it, I’m sure.

I think the character’s we’ve been introduced to so far are interesting! Priscilla might be my fave girl out the gate, but as for guys, I’m waiting on Reinhard, but I like Ryker a lot💖
