☼ MOONLIGHT KISSES THE ZENITH of the Holy Land, a secret place slipped through the annals of mortal memory like sand through an hourglass. THE COMING OF SPRING will dawn in a few hours but for now, Gabriel sits and waits for the only other soul who knows of this refuge, REVNA VOLK. [ @revnavolk ]

It is somewhere that cannot be found except in dream, or by fate — the hand of the divine, deus ex machina, still moving through a world that has forgotten how it felt to live and die by its design. The moon is full and silver-weighted high above and closer here than any other spire or balcony in the Holy Land. Even Eden could not dare to reach for her light with its tangled wilderness and roots spiralling into deepest earth. — No, this place is a place entirely devoid of God. Or, at least of Him.

If there is some other god who could dream a place this beautiful into being, Gabriel thinks he would like to meet them.

The vantage point where he perches arcs into the open air, raised akin to the cliffs and bluffs where flocks of birds would make their nests. Barely ten feet across, and just large enough for two people to comfortably gather at its edge and gaze out upon the entirety of the Holy Land, it is wreathed on both sides by trees that seem to have aged, or conspired, to shroud this place for centuries. Such is their covenant that not even stray moonlight steals through the thickest part of the branches.

A world away from the world. A place that can only be reached by a soul who knew the wilds bordering the fringe of the Holy Land, and by someone gifted with flight but who could no longer fly as far as Caelum without it striking agony through his wings. ( Is an angel still an angel if he has no wings? Is he no more than the Fallen if he cannot fly? ) Gabriel alights upon the edge of the rock, tucking himself into a seated position that subsumes the wretched torment of flying too long with his splintered, ruptured wings.

From this distance, the Holy Land is an unending stretch of faraway lights and tiny buildings carved into the dirt. The night sky is achingly lovely, lit by infinitesimal stars. It is never this clear, or this bright, anywhere else in Sanctus Terra. In his periphery, a little star comes to life, quietly at first, and then bursting into brilliance all at once, surging to the forefront of the midnight stage, a blaze of incandescence as it soars through the air, burning, burning, falling. It lives for only a shutter shot of a moment, here and then gone again. An implosion of ethereal, cosmic loveliness, too exquisite to be real in a world like this.

A trace of a smile lifts at the corners of his lips, an echo of moonlight gleaming in his eyes as he speaks to the air. To her. “Revna, are you practicing on me again?”
