Hi! Since you were disappointed with how MLP g4 turned out by the time it ended (as was I), I was curious if you have any opinions on Equestria Girls? Personally I think it had a ton of potential, as to me Sunset Shimmer is one of the few positive elements that the new writers added to the franchise, but they sacrificed any expansive world building and overall narrative integrity for forced ship pandering, much like the MLP finale did (though in this case with rarijack and sciset and on a much bigger scale), which ofc the fans eat up. I actually think if Sunset was included in the main show, it could’ve let to some interesting and cool plot lines (plus imo she brings the best out of Twilight). I’d like to know what you think! :)
Tumblr media
Finally, Summersong has come back to Tumblr.
... to whine on a different account, but it seems this was sitting in my inbox. I have no idea how long it's been there.
Just like old times, it took me a whole day to finish writing this. But anyway it's been a while since I watched this crud so let's see...
Equestria Girls (EQG) was a very obvious cheap cash grab for teen girls. A really successful one, though, since it let Hasbro steal the Disney Princess license from Barbie.
With this in mind... the first two EQG movies are surprisingly decent. The second being the far better of the two with the exception of Trixie repeating her stupid strip club song over and over.
The third movie is garbage other than its songs and the fourth is meh. I despise "Sci-Twi". She has zero of prime Twilight's charm; they didn't expressly address or play on the analogue to prime Twilight having the least connection to the other girls out of the six so we get only the drawbacks of that lack of connection; and Sunset covers all of her contributions to the show from being the leader to having the most impressive powers to formerly being a monster. Sci-Twi is a boring nothing-character there for creeps to drool over a shy nerd girl. Sci-Twi is completely pointless.
Beyond the movies, I saw I guess a couple of the specials and that's about it. So I have no clue what you're talking about with the character shipping. Either that's more apparent in the shorts I didn't watch or the fandom is once again going "Two characters who appeal to my confused understanding of queerness I developed as a coping mechanism for being bullied at school are talking? I can't believe this gratuitous sex is in a children's show!"
EQG is surprisingly good for what it is, but that doesn't mean it's good good. The most obvious problem is how it looks. While the content they designed specifically for Equestria Girls looks okay, existing characters they had to redesign usually look abominable.
The worst casualties are the Princesses.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
They kinda tried with Celestia, who has the right eyes (maybe) barely fitting on her face, but the others have completely new eyes (as an awful lot of characters do) and oh yeah Luna's a totally different color.
I mean, some of Luna's toys were also that color since MLP toys often look like bootlegs of themselves...
Tumblr media
But also she is now "human", so EQG was bound to irrelevant and racist ideas of "acceptable" human skin color. Big Macintosh couldn't be red, lest the country bumpkin stereotype be mistaken as an indigenous American stereotype, so I presume no one could be too dark either because "NOBODY could be THAT black it MUST be a caricature". This is of course completely ridiculous, but someone pretended to be angry soccer moms and tried to sue Hasbro at least once over bullshit wokery (The Last Roundup), so they were wise not to take such chances.
This original-good / returning-bad rule of thumb applies even to new outfits. EQG Pinkie is kinda gross in her standard outfit, but looks much cuter in the new outfit she gets while working as a waitress - partially because she no longer has giant elephant feet.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(I think they intentionally worked Alice Liddel into the waitress design as a reference to "Pinkie is secretly an ax murderer". See Cupcakes, American McGee's Alice, etc.)
Because it's made for teen girls, EQG stories are incredibly daft and mostly rely on girls being superficial wenches. Literally every single major EQG antagonist except maybe Gloriosa is motivated by ego, jealousy, or otherwise a concern with their public image or vanity. Even Wallflower, who tried to get everybody to forget her, did this because she was embarrassed she was cringe af for real I can't even.
In the comics, someone - I think it's Sunburst - actually writes a college thesis on how Starswirl the Bearded is the Worst Pony and why everything is his fault. One of the reasons is that he recklessly chucked the Sirens (originally from prime Equestria) into a random other dimension, assuming this'd be OK since it had no magic. In the comics Starswirl's abuse of Luna is part of why she became Nightmare Moon and he also accidentally created the changelings.
I don't remember if the Sirens are mentioned in the core show, but other than them, the only EQG character who is ever recognized is Sunset, because she's the only one who ever interacted regularly with the prime Equestrians (being one herself), and because Sunset was already shown in her impossibly adorable pony form in EQG anyway so they didn't need to make new assets for her or have goofy moonfaced "humans" appear in the core show.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Reverie Equestria doesn't incorporate EQG per se because EQG is completely at odds with everything about RevEq and generally incredibly stupid, but the prime Equestrian versions of EQG characters will appear. I know some of them appeared in the comic, usually just in cameo roles, but the RevEq versions won't necessarily match the comic versions.
For instance, here's a sprite for Wallflower Blush if and when she appears in Out of Season.
Tumblr media
(Most character sprites don't have the cutie marks put on yet.)
In the comics, Wallflower appears as an earth pony. In RevEq she's a unicorn, because she does the memory-wiping thing herself. Every magic character in RevEq has a signature spell, and Wallflower's is the Oblivion Spell that lets her wipe memories.
And yes, in RevEq, applicable characters consistently have bushwooly hair covering their faces when seen from the right. This is a half-joke about how all MLP characters are designed to look good from the left, since that's how they're put in the toy boxes, and some of them like the Princesses clearly have the entire right side of their face blocked off. It also lets characters like Fluttershy or Wallflower hide their faces from the player's perspective. Maybe I'll have a stealth segment where you can sneak past someone because she can't see to her right.
If you play the very early, not-remotely-finished Out of Season right now, you'll notice Rainbow Dash even has different colors of her hair visible left vs. right, whereas the show just flips her over.
Anyway.
EQG is okay. I didn't expect much and I didn't get much. It has some interesting ideas to transform into better forms for fanfic AUs. Humans suck, pone not munkey.

Now that Out of Season has a tentative title card... let's make a blog for it on good old piece of poop Tumblr!
Tadaaaa!
Out of Season is a fanmade My Little Pony game with no affiliation with or endorsement by Hasbro Inc. Derived character & place names and designs, and all other derived intellectual property, belong to Hasbro Inc. or to other respective owners.
This game contains mild loose language and possible euphemisms. There is no explicit sexual content and no blood or detailed violence.
Also the game isn't even remotely done. It's in a very early alpha state. But feel free to try it out!

Hey so I made a mlp au.
Here’s Merry Melody and Ritzy Reverie, the versions of Sammy and Joey!
I’m going to put some background info for each of them under a read more
Merry Melody was born in canterlot, into a family of prestigious musicians. He was always expected to be a musician like his parents; an expectation he was fine with. Good at playing music and even better at writing it, he could have easily had a luxurious career as a composer or musician for any of the numerous orchestras in Canterlot. He was even offered a position in the royal band, though he declined. That sort of life didn’t interest him. As great as classical music is, it’s never been his thing. So he set off from Canterlot, making his way to Manehattan, drawn in by the rich and varied music scene the city was known for. After a while of playing and writing for whatever gigs he could get, he met an earth pony by the name of Ritzy Reverie, who offered him a job at a new animation studio. Taken in by glittering flattery and the promise of a well paying job doing what he enjoys, Merry accepted.
Ritzy Reverie tries time avoid discussing his past. Born in a little nowhere town, not even marked on most Equestria maps, he wanted nothing more than to get away. He had big dreams, far bigger than anyone in his tiny hometown. So, as soon as he could, Ritzy (then known as Silver Dollar) left home. He ended up in Manehattan, got a job and managed to make it into university there. Still blank-flanked and with barely any idea of what to do now, he wandered. Eventually he found his way into a little antique shop, tucked away in a rather shady part of the city. There he found it; a time that seemed to call for him. It was a heavy volume, full of powerful spells made not for unicorns, but for earth ponies and pegasi. He bought it without thinking. From then on he dabbled in magic from time to time, and discovered he certainly had a talent for it, but he wasn’t sure if that’s what he wanted to do. Thanks to a friend of his from college, he had developed an interest in animation as well. But then it hit him; why not both? A bit of magic could do wonders on a screen, couldn’t it? It took a while, but eventually, with some help from friends, he got the funds to open up a brand new animation studio. He’d finally found what he wanted.

Cory grinned meanly as he bounced the heavy bag from hoof to hoof while he offered, “Yah, I got the money that I owes you, Canter.  It's right here.  Not gonna pay you, though.  Not yet.  I means, it is Nightmare Night.  I will give you the money first thing in the morning.  Just spend the night in the old Crawfeather place.  Should be a piece of cake, after all, you don't believe in ghosts, so you says.”
“You are on, Cory.  But make it 300, if you make me stay in there for the night!”
“You got it, Canter, if you stay the night, I'll make it 300 when you come out at dawn.”
Now he was creeping down one of the empty hallways of the long abandoned mansion of Crawfeather.  The darkness relieved only by the single candle held in Canter's magic.  Old furniture mostly covered by aged dust covers dotted the passage.  He shivered, and it was not from the cold.  He was wishing that he had not taken the dare to spend this Nightmare Night in the reputedly haunted Crawfeather mansion.  Still, 300 golden bits was 300 golden bits.
Canter remembered all too vividly the ghastly past of this place.  The land that the mansion was built on was originally owned by the Bordens, back in the very earliest days of Ponyville, before there was any sort of formal town.
After the Apple Clan had demonstrated the value of the land in the area for farming by creating one of the most productive apple orchards in Equestria, the land rush was on!  The Bordens had claimed a big area and invested all that they had into clearing the land.  It proved to be too stony for any sort of farm.  It wasn't just loose surface stone either.  Rough upthrust sedimentary rock made up most of it. Clyde's attempts to sell it to newcomers became a local joke.
Clyde Borden put the land up in a card game and lost it to Jason Crawfeather.  For weeks afterwards, Clyde crowed about how bad Jason was taken in by winning that worthless land.  Jason and his family quietly ignored him and set industriously to work.  It was not too long before the Crawfeather Quarry was supplying the good building stone for foundations and nicely split slates for stout, weatherproof roofs that the rapidly growing community of Ponyville needed.
The fortune earned by the Crawfeathers and the resentment of the Bordens stoked the flames of the feud that followed.  The orgy of murder was started by Poxy, one of Clyde's grown colts.
Swinging an ax, he charged into the Crawfeathers and some guests, who were dining on their plaza!  By the time that it was over, Chance Crawfeather was carried up to his room, his life blood soaking the sheets and bolster of his bed as he died.
Sweetbriar Crawfeather, Jason's wife was laid out in the great room.  One of the guests was a doctor who managed to stanch her wounds and saved her life.  She would carry those scars to her grave.
Poxy was caught before he could escape.  Three strong unicorns from the quarry held him down while Jason brained him with his own ax.
Pretending serious remorse for the actions of her brother, Lisset Borden came to serve the remaining Crawfeathers as a maid.  She soon learned that all three of them, Jason, Sweetbriar, and their remaining filly, Sunblossom had a fondness for tomato soup.  She served the unsuspecting family a tasty soup of tomatoes, basil, and a strong portion of poison hemlock.
Sunblossom collapsed at the table.  In spite of the pangs from her own stomach, Sweetbriar assisted Sunblossom up to her room.  In her attempt to appear innocent, Lisset helped her too.
Jason, in spite of the agony in his own innards, called for help from the house staff.  It took them only moments to find the bottle that had contained the deadly concoction.  They captured Lisset as she was coming down the stairs.  Lisset was made to drink the soup that remained.  She was dead before the ghastly wails of Sweetbriar announced the passing of Sunblossom.
Both Jason and Sweetbriar were ill for weeks before they recovered from the effects of the hemlock.  In one regard Sweetbriar never recovered.  Seeing both of her foals murdered by ax and poison drove her into madness.
She was known to haunt the rooms where they died and sought them about the mansion and their play yard.  She even went down into the quarry seeking her “lost” foals.  Most watched her with pity.
Searching the play yard again, as the year was passing into autumn, Sweetbriar stumbled on something concealed from her sight by her madness.  The headstones of her missing foals, Chance and Sunblossom could no longer be denied.  She avidly read what was on each stone.  Instead of wailing her loss, her heart became harder than the stones of the Crawfeather Quarry.
On a late autumn night with no moon to betray her, Sweetbriar sneaked down into the developing town of Ponyville.  Unseen by any, she poured lamp oil over the front porch and back stoop of the Borden house and set it ablaze.  Cunningly, she did not stay to see how her plot played out but repaired back to Crawfeather, avoiding the many foals out in fanciful costumes.
Entering the house, she beheld the horrid sight of Clyde Borden hacking at the dead body of her beloved Jason with a double bit ax!  She seized the weapon from his grasp as he pulled back for another stroke!  With the power of her rage and madness, she took Clyde's head from his body in a single stroke!
She dropped the ax, which stuck upright in the floor boards.  In her struggles to drag the corpse of the assassin off of her husband's body, her feet slipped in the spilled gore and she lost her footing! She fell on the ax and the razor sharp blade cut her throat!
The house staff and their foals returned from their Nightmare Night, which had been made more exciting by the deadly house fire that had destroyed the Borden house and, apparently all the remaining Bordens!
The town's newly appointed constables had far more to deal with than the usual Nightmare Night pranks.  At least the feud would go no further. Neither Borden nor Crawfeather remained alive to carry it on.
Canter's reverie was broken by the creaking of hinges.  His ears straining to hear more failed to spot any further sound.  This was not the first such sound that he'd heard, either.  He had traced the first ones to open windows upstairs and drafts making old doors swing.
There was a creaking floorboard behind him!  Whirling about in startlement he saw . . . Cory!
“Just checking up on you, Canter.  Realized that you are missing out on Nightmare Night partying.  Brought you a little to make up for it. Here.  Got you something to drink in the bottle and a bunch of candies.”
“Nice of you, Cory.”
As Canter took the bag, the knife that Cory was hiding behind it plunged up, through the bottom of his jaw and into his brain through the weak area of skull on the underside!
Canter collapsed, dead before he hit the floor.
Cory's gloat of, “Looks like that money stays mine!  You ain't going to see the dawn . . .” was interrupted!
Screaming foals in Nightmare Night costumes ran from the old parlor and out into the night!  The last one bucked the doors shut!  The locking click of the latch was like a trump of doom!  Cory was panting frantically and pounding on the door when the old handle turned.  The opened door showed a brace of constables waiting to take him to jail.
Canter looked about, sort of puzzled.  Everything was sort of gray, in spite of which, he could see clearly.  There was a pony before him, also gone gray, and a good thing. He had several huge wounds.  At least he was not bleeding from them.  Canter could see furniture through him.
He invited, “Canter, right?  I am Jason.  Why don't you come with me and meet the rest of the family?”

“A Siren’s Tale”
Feat. Forte
The story of the Dazzlings - of the three powerful siren sisters - did not end at Canterlot High. Nor did it begin there, as one little girl learns.
Story and Description Under The Cut
Bright green grass blanketed a number of small hillsides. The blades swayed and curled with the spring breeze, and the trees dotted about gave the softest of rustles with their vibrant leaves. The bottom of the hills stretched out into a decently sized park; blacktops, sidewalks, benches, a playground and fountain, all relatively calm with the few figures moving and going about their day under the warm sunrays. Unnoticed or not was a feminine figure, sitting at the top of a grassy incline. Well-dressed with curly ginger hair pulled back into a thick messy bun, Adagio had her arms wrapped around a smaller shape within her lap. There sat a little girl, with short, thick curls of pale hair that transitioned to shades of light orange and cinnamon. Her magenta eyes, much like the woman behind her, were trained on her mother's face, her expression full of curiosity. "But where did the sirens live, mama?" At once, Adagio's eyes lit up. Originally hunched over from fatigue, energy seemed to return to her as her gaze focused on the sky, staring out towards something far off and unseen. "Oh believe me, dear, it was a gorgeous place. The filth they call oceans here could never compare." Adagio's pupils glimmered. "The Isles of Anthemosa. Try imagining clear, sparkling blue-green water, as far as your eyes could see. There were these small islands, covered with trees and flowery meadows and just surrounded by coral reefs with every color of the rainbow. The cliffsides were covered with green and created these private waterway valleys that the sirens would use to swim between the islands." "Oh..." the girl whispered. She leaned her head against her mother's chest, enraptured by the pictures painted in her mind. "That sounds so pretty..." "Yeah...it really was, Forte." In Adagio's reverie, there was an expression that Forte had seen only a handful of times when her mother thought no one was paying attention. Something distant. Tired. Sad even, in the crinkles around the woman's eyes. It was an expression that always brought nervous butterflies to her tummy. Forte reached up with a pudgy hand and lightly tugged at the collar of her mother's sweater. "Mama? Are you okay?" Adagio eyelids fluttered, and like a switch, she smirked down at her daughter's worried face. She readjusted Forte, having the girl sit with her back against her chest before hugging her closer. "Oh hush, I'm fine. I was thinking back is all...a lot of time has passed, but it's so clear in my head." Forte tilted her head back, eyes full of wonder. "Is it still there? Can we go see it?" Adagio winced. She didn't respond right away. Before Forte could ask again, her mother muttered. "Maybe...but even if it is, we have no way of going back to our world." "Huh? Why not?" Adagio's expression grew grave and hardened. "Because a fool of a wizard used his magic to banish us from Equestria." She nearly snarled out. "And here we are. Just a meager one hundred years later." Eyebrows pulling back, Forte turned her head, nervousness creeping into her voice. "Why would he do that...?" "Because. We were powerful. And we were feared." Adagio's tone was even. Matter-of-fact. She leaned forward to rest her chin on the twin buns atop Forte's head. "The ponies called our magic evil and shunned us as 'beasts'. And after we gained power over them and forced them to respect our voices and glory, they thought sending us to another realm was just a fantastic idea." Adagio glared down at the rest of the park below. Humans walked about, alone or in groups, and her pupils narrowed sharply at them. "All this time we've been forced to look like these human scum and bumble our way around this miserable planet. The three of us tried to regain our full power once, and reclaim control so we could once again live freely and with the recognition we sirens deserved." Expression darkening, her jaw tightened. "And not only did the humans rip that away from us...they destroyed our only means of living and protecting ourselves." "Oh..." Forte murmured, balling her fists into her lap. While young, and though Adagio was sure there was only so much a child like herself could grasp, she knew well that her girl was precocious enough to understand her tale to an extent. A silence came between the two. It took several heartbeats before Forte's voice reached her ears. "What about the other sirens? Don't they miss you?" Adagio's form stiffened. But soon enough she forced her muscles to ease up, although her arms wound tighter around her daughter. "They're..." Breathing out deeply, Adagio closed her eyes. "The others are gone, sweetheart. It's just...us. We're what's left." Forte whipped around, then, bug-eyed. "W-what happened?" Adagio's eyes opened halfway, vision unfocused, watching something unfolding before her that only she could see. "The... " She cleared her throat, forcing her voice to be firmer. "The Cataclysm happened. That's what took them away." Puzzled, Forte shot her mother a questioning look. "'Cata'what...?" Adagio heaved a sigh. "Even I don't completely know what happened that day. But..." A bitter smile curled on her lips. "Thanks to...maybe cruel luck. Or timing. Only three stupidly young, stupidly careless sirens survived the fall." Adagio chuckled darkly, eyes lowering tiredly to the grass. "Yeah, just...three very stupid sisters." The young girl's brow furrowed. "You...Aunt Sonata, and Aunt Aria?" Looking down at her daughter, Adagio found Forte's smaller, rounder face staring up at her anxiously. Expression softening, the siren offered the girl a weak half-smile. "That obvious, hun?" A breath was deeply inhaled through the woman's nose, then slowly exhaled through her mouth; her attempt at regaining her composure as she shifted in place. A certain weight under her shirt made itself known, and Adagio brought back a tender smile, remembering what she really wanted to share the most. "But hey. Even if you were born to a family of complete idiots, guess what? You're special." Adagio laughed, whole-hearted and freely, as her daughter perked up, that child-like curiosity returning in the form of a head tilt. "Special?" A deep adoration that only ever seemed to surface when the siren was with her daughter washed over her. Adagio playfully tapped her on the nose. "Yeah, of course. Because even if it's only half, you're a siren, too." Adagio reached up, fondly brushing a thumb against Forte's cheek. "And with you around? Our legacy as sirens gets to live on. And that's undeniably special." Reaching under her high collar, Adagio pulled at a previously hidden silver chain. At the end of it, freed from the confines of her sweater, hung a single palm-sized red gem. While visible cracks broke through its surface, a shard or two missing, the stone shone and reflected Forte's bright expression. Adagio smirked. "Now hold out your hands." As the pendant came to rest within Forte's outstretched palms, the girl saw that, while unnoticed at first, the jewel was giving off the faintest of red glows against her dark skin. Adagio continued, "In Equestria, every siren was born with a gem like this. While we're magical ourselves, this is where we really harnessed our power." "Your necklace is magical?" "When enough energy was stored? Oh, like you wouldn't believe." Adagio chuckled quietly to herself, staring into the reflective surface of her pendant. "This...used to be a part of me, before we came here. When our enemies shattered our gems all those years ago, I was lucky enough to piece mine back together, even if it wasn't the same after. It's helped carry me through these years...but I think I've used it enough." Adagio cupped Forte's hands and closed her fingers tightly around the necklace. "You're a smart girl, Forte. I don't know if being half-human will affect anything. We can certainly test it when you're a bit older, but from now on, it's yours." Forte gawked at her mother. "I...I get to keep it?" "Keep it at home for now, but sure." While the siren brushed back the loose strands on her daughter's head, she took a moment to give Forte a stern squint. "Now you better keep it safe for me. It was an absolute pain having it fixed." "I will!" There was no pause or even the slightest bit of hesitation in Forte's response. She gave her mother the biggest grin she could, revealing a set of slightly pointed canines. Adagio couldn't stop herself from sharing the toothy grin and nuzzling her daughter into a tight hug. It won her a fit of giggles, and Adagio sighed into Forte's hair. "That's my girl..." "Awww...how come Gio doesn't hug US like that, Aria?" "Sonata, you are just...a master at blowing covers, aren't you?" "Hmph! YOU'RE a master!" With the sound of approaching footsteps, Adagio whipped her head around. Behind her on the other side of the hill stood a familiar woman, her streaked blue hair tied back into a looped ponytail. Crossing her arms, Sonata was pouting at another recognizable face beside her, one framed by a short bob of purple and cyan hair. Aria's hands were stuffed within her jean pockets as she walked past Sonata, giving her sister an eye roll as she did. Almost instantaneously, Adagio's air shifted into one far more aggressive. She glowered at her younger sisters, her lip curling and ever so slightly revealing a short fang. "I'm sorry, who said you could follow me here?" "You came home from work, grabbed Forte, and left without a word." Aria shrugged, stopping a few feet behind where Adagio sat. "It's not our fault that you never said not to follow." "And I can't BELIEVE you didn't invite us!" Sonata exclaimed, jumping in next to Aria. It was obvious the violet-haired siren was barely holding back a groan. "I mean it's SUCH a nice day today! We could have pulled out a blanket and had a nice family picnic and-" Distracted by her own irritation, Adagio hadn't noticed her daughter rising up from her lap, holding the gemstone close to her chest. "Sorry Sonata..." Forte ducked her head guiltily. In the blink of an eye, the little girl squeaked as a set of arms swept her up into a second bear hug. "AWW, c'mere, yoooou!" Sonata cooed, cuddling her niece. "Mama Sonata could never be mad at you!" Adagio sputtered in disbelief. Jumping to her feet she marched up to her youngest sibling, prodding a firm finger into her chest. "EXCUSE ME, you little- I don't remember naming you her mom!" As she spoke, Sonata's eyes awkwardly wandered off to the side until she abruptly gasped with the utmost delight. Holding Forte under one arm like a ragdoll, the woman hovered her second hand above her eyes to peer into the distance. "Oh. My. GOD, YOU GUYS, A HOTDOG CART! EVEN BETTER!" A second gasp. "Wait, hold on...you don't think...would they have tacos too?! Tacos are just crunchy hotdogs, right?!" Sonata squealed, practically tossing Forte up and then catching her with both of her arms. It earned her a yell from Adagio, one she either ignored or didn't hear in her state of sheer joy. "WELL I'MMA FIND OUT! Don't worry, Te, big sis's got you!" And with that, she took off running down the incline. The sound of Forte's bubbly laughter faded into the distance as Sonata made a beeline for the food cart at the bottom of the hill. Adagio bristled and cupped her hands around her mouth. "I DON'T REMEMBER ADOPTING YOU, EITHER!" "That's debatable..." Aria muttered, massaging her forehead. "YOU DROP HER AND SHE WON'T BE THE ONLY ONE WITH A CONCUSSION!" A whistle and a slow clap. "Wow. Sure got her there, Adagio." With a growl, Adagio plopped back onto the grass, her searing magenta eyes piercing into Sonata's form. Even from a distance she could make out the confused, overwhelmed expression of the cart owner, no doubt sweating under Sonata's eager questions and demands. "I swear, you two just always have to kill the moment." She didn't turn her head at the sound of rustling grass, signifying Aria taking a seat beside her. A still silence took hold of the air between them, only the sound of distant chatter and the soft breeze meeting their ears. It took a few tense heartbeats before Aria hummed, leaning back on her hands. "...well. Guess that explains why you woke up one day and suddenly wanted to make a human." "Siren." Adagio snapped. Side-eyeing Aria, she huffed. "Should've known you'd eavesdrop too... I swear to Lugh you're both so annoying..." Aria remained unfazed. Surprisingly she neither shot her older sister a challenging look nor a comeback like the defiant middle child Adagio knew she typically was. Aria stared off into space instead, making no move to look at her sister. When she didn't continue immediately, Adagio could feel her patience wearing thinner than it already was. "Well? What of it? If you're planning to mock me you better spit it-" "Was it seriously that hard just to tell us that from the getgo?" Adagio's mouth hung open for a moment, slowly closing as Aria's words processed. She eyed Aria again, taking in the woman's nonchalant posture and air. Yet there was a tension to those purple eyes, even if it wasn't being focused directly onto Adagio herself. Adagio pulled her legs closer to her chest, wrapping her arms around them. "...I don't have to tell you anything," she grumbled stubbornly, resting her chin on a knee. "I'm the leader here." "...pft. Oh yeah?" Seeing Aria turn her head in her peripheral, Adagio shifted her gaze to catch her sister raising an eyebrow at her. "You know, I'm so used to you calling us idiots, I never thought you considered yourself one, oh wise leader." It took a moment for Adagio to recall the exact words she had spoken to her daughter. She scoffed. "I'm still with you two, aren't I?" A strong wind blew by, causing the ginger-haired woman to push the curls of her long bangs back. "Honestly...how have we stayed together for this long?" "Gee, it's almost like we're family," Aria answered dryly. Adagio lazily shrugged, turning her head away. "Any of us could have walked away at any point. Especially now. It's not like we can combine our magic anymore." "Uh-huh. Sure." With a grunt, Aria laid back against the grass, propping her head up with her arms. "It's not like you didn't have the past century to do something if you really believed that." Adagio's silence didn't go unnoticed. The older siren's expression was unreadable as she stared blankly at the hill below. Aria lightly rolled her eyes. In a single moment, her sister's silent thoughts were clear to her. "...and if we believed that, we wouldn't still be here, would we? Geez...you really are dumb." "...you talk too much." Adagio muttered, glaring at nothing in particular. The corner of Aria's mouth quirked upward. "Well too bad, loser. You and Forte are stuck with me for the rest of our short, miserable lives here. Sonata too...until she inevitably burns the condo down. Then we'll talk." No response. While Adagio didn't look at her, whether Aria could see it or not, there was just the faintest hint of relief beneath the stress lines of the siren's face. "Yeah, yeah, whatever...I-" Adagio cut herself off, her eyes narrowing. Aria quickly sat up as the older siren threw herself back up to her feet, shouting out furiously with clenched fists; "SONATA, DON'T YOU DARE PILE HOT DOGS ON HER HEAD!" Tension broken, Aria sighed heavily, digging a pinkie into her aching ear. "For Lugh's sake, maybe one day you'll both figure out volume control..." "HAH! Sure. And maybe one day you'll start crocheting cute little trinkets with Sonata." Aria's face wrinkled with disgust. While Adagio ran off, charging towards their younger sister at a speed that almost had Aria pitying her, the violet-haired woman didn't miss the teasing edge to her sarcasm. It was light, genuine, and a very Adagio-like retort that Aria could swear she hadn't heard in years. For so long it was all business, all standoffish, all ways to keep busy and keep her sisters out of her headspace, one that was now just a little less of a mystery. With a stretch and a roll of her neck, Aria stood back up and stuffed her hands into her pockets. Bracing herself, she began her trek down to meet up with the rest of her crazy yet somehow bearable disaster of a family.
________________________________________________
Here comes Mia, throwing in her first puzzle piece of Destinyverse lore. When you care about yo sis's wellbeing and you’re there for her but you’re too stubborn to say it outright so you have to be weird and indirect about it I’ve come to realize upon writing this chapter that the Dazzlings are my favorite MLP villains. I mean, song-based villains where every one of their songs is freaking bOMB, who are endearing and fun and genuinely threatening?? Holy shit yeh And if you somehow don’t know who they are, behold their final battle that gets me hyped every time. In fact, it's the lyrics in this song that caught my attention and inspired so many of the ideas I have for their potential story. I always felt like there was more to the Dazzlings than just three power-hungry, attention-seeking ancient beasts. Anyway! There will be a Destinyverse Character Headcanon upload about the Dazzlings next, one that’ll go into their history and the aftermath of the Rainbow Rocks film! Most questions will be answered there~ But until then; It was all fun and exciting when the sirens regained the full power of their voices and nearly took over the human world at large. But in the end they lost, and they paid the price with their gems and magic. Stripped of their pride and left utterly defenseless in a world they never quite belonged in, the sirens' loss took its heaviest toll on their once resilient leader. After a long road of struggle to regain security in their lives, Adagio - to the shock and complete bafflement of Sonata and Aria - one day abruptly decided to have a progeny of her own, no explanations. And with the power of science and a donor, Adagio was able to have what became the little spark of hope she desired in her life; Forte Fermata, her half-human, half-siren daughter. One may remember her from her first appearance in “First Day”. There will be more to come for this family.

Out of Season
Tumblr media
I'm supposed to be workin' on a pony game. It's kind of really really late but whatever. One day it'll be good 'n' stuff.
You can play the mega early cruddy version on Itch! It's not done. If you whine about the obviously not done parts I'm gonna laugh at you for being dumb.
Out of Season takes place in Reverie Equestria, so some of the characters are gonna look a little different, and references to past events are gonna be different too.
It's gonna be a lighthearted game. No explicit depictions of sex, no bad words, no blood and death or whatever. It's full of jokes and the characters being endearingly stupid. Some of this will only be endearing and funny to vaguely smart people who can understand how people work, and as you might be aware I don't think the brony fandom is rich in that resource (nor is Tumblr) but we'll see!
It'll have a day/night system with weekly character schedules and, possibly, special schedules for special days.
Eventually it'll have custom tilesets kinda like this:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
. . . . .
The biggest obstacle to Out of Season is that I'm using it to develop a custom code library called SolaerMV. Some of the implemented features include:
General fixes and toggles for stupid things RPG Maker MV does by default
Letterboxing (public demo cheats, next published version has it legit)
Automatically changing character "Costumes" based on current Class
Ability to change facial expressions mid-message while reflecting Costume changes
Name window on message box
Ability to define different window skins for different windows
"Sixers" - character sprites that animate thru six frames of animation instead of 1-2-3-2
Future features include:
A Final Fantasy V-inspired class change system
Advanced parameters and status effects including stacks and dormant stacks
Enemies which use SV actor sprites instead of still images
... ???
. . . . . . . . .
The other obstacle is drawing lots and lots of sprites and pixel arts. Such as all the unique buildings in each city.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The playable characters need sprites for about 30 costumes for the overworld, a couple dozen face expressions, and their SV battle sprites. In the current alpha they have a few overworld costumes, only one costume's worth of faces, and no SV battle sprites.
The good news is: it turns out you can make face images as big as you want and MV can work with it, so I don't need to get all pedantic about defining exactly how many faces everyone gets. Rarity and Pinkie already have an extra face expression to themselves with no apparent technical issues.
I need to look thru the character list to do sprites for all the minor characters / BGPs and might need to do new designs since the old BGPs are all coherent characters now. Since the Celestia in the above image is out of date, here's a more recent revision of her sprite:
Tumblr media
I think that's enough ranting about this for now.
You can play a mega early cruddy version on Itch.
Bye!

Someone likes my phoenix idea and it might catch on and become popular and I'd just like to say that
You can't claim copyright or w/e on a general idea so I can't stop everybody from doing the phoenix thing but
I totally came up with it first, since I still haven't published anything from RevEq this reblog is my proof nyeh nyeh and
In current plans for RevEq Philomena is not the phoenix that brought Tia & Luna because that'd be weird, she is the daughter of that phoenix so that she is their sister not their mom
STORKS!
I CANT BELIEVE THIS SHOW PASSED ON THIS COOL IDEA!!
Way way back in the day, during the S02 finale, a buddy of mine complained that the way Equestria did weddings was too normal. Other than the whole “changeling invasion” thing, of course.
I mean, in season 1 we found that ponies had to manually clean out a season and fabricate a new one. They also have to sing carols every winter or else there won’t be enough Christmas joy around to keep the Windigos at bay. Ponies are magical as hell!
Yet, even though the other wedding featured much later resulted in a magical tree made out of love, both weddings were otherwise exactly a normal human wedding. No one even had to climb Death Mountain for a blue feather like Harvest Moon.
But I’ll do you one better. Not only should ponies not have normal weddings, they shouldn’t have normal babies. This is a child’s fairytale world. Where do babies come from in fairytale worlds?
THE STORKS BRING ‘EM!!!
Friendship is Magic should have literally had divine birds bring babies to their parents. (Not necessarily storks, just as griffons are not necessarily a lion/eagle combo.)
Not only would that be perfectly fitting for the setting but it would have solved a ton of problems and explained a load of issues:
Ponies don’t have to look like their parents (countless examples)
Ponies don’t have to be the same tribe as their parents (e.g. Cake spouses are earth ponies, children are pegasus and unicorn)
Ponies don’t have to have any parents (e.g. Celestia & Luna)
Never bringing up hee-hee is fine and not at all conspicuous, hubba-bubba doesn’t even exist due to storks bringing babies and all
Remember Philomena? That’s okay, neither did the writers. She was Celestia’s pet phoenix.
Or, maybe, in some pretentious jerk’s pretentious AU (I’m pointing at me), REALLY COOL BABIES who are born to the cosmos themselves as scions of the light to drive away evil are brought by phoenixes and Philomena is the phoenix who brought Celestia and Luna to Star Swirl.
(And ponies still do the devil’s dance anyway because eat me.)

I just remembered
There is currently precisely one G3 character whom I intend to include in Reverie Equestria (other than the G3 characters who are basically also G4 characters.)
Feel free to guess who it is, if anybody actually reads this blog!
Hint: She only appears once.

The reason Friendship is Magic started sucking isn’t because because the writers tried to pander to “the fans”
It’s because they pandered to people who weren’t fans.
They pandered to the kind of people who saw a cute show for six year olds where cartoon ponies learned to share and forgive each other and, like their DeviantArt edgelord ancestors, decided the most “thoughtful” way to expand on that was to make it “grimdark” and murder the main character, and do everything they could to not portray the characters in any way that made any sense, because they think doing the exact opposite of what has already been established is the only valid form of creativity when in actuality it is the one red flag of every single last pretentious, uncreative parasite...
... and the kind of people who have such pathetically little self-confidence they project themselves unto a “pussy” character like Spike and then use him as a surrogate to try to fulfill their alpha male fantasies...
... and that would not have been a problem if the fucking writers didn’t (partially) agree with them and, by alternately pandering to them and then scrambling to not look like they were doing that, ruin the show with bullshit.
Expect this to happen with more shows, games, and everything else in the future.
The original reason I conceived Reverie Equestria was because I was 100% sure that, given enough time and confidence, I could do both the optimistic cheer and lovable characterization the show was actually about, and the grimdark sobby my feels bullshit fans bootlegged it into, better than any of these non-fan morons.
But it’s really hard even to get started, and the exact same uncreative parasites would just get butthurt and refuse to acknowledge it if I ever did succeed.
I hope it will be worth the effort anyway.

Hello pones!
I’m Summersong! Tirimsil in the deerish tongue.
Friendship is Magic is over, and we’re heading into G5 soon. Maybe we already did, I don’t know. Point is, In 2020 I want to finish up the basic story of my dumb pretentious AU, Reverie Equestria (#reveq), and throw it out there super quick before Hasbro tells me to stop it.
Reverie Equestria is partially in response to all these people who overthought and failed to understand a show about cartoon ponies to sell toys to six-year-old girls. I basically did exactly the same thing, except I’d like to think I can do it better. I probably can’t, but that’s a never and dreams are where the maybes are found.
It’s also partially in response to the show itself, which forgot what it was about partway through (or perhaps never really knew) and meandered around with no consistent, meaningful lore.
Because of this, Reverie Equestria isn’t a wildly different AU like say, Fallout Equestria. It’s more like retelling the existing pony story differently and hopefully more better.
No matter what happens, this will not “prove anything” about how the show staff “could’ve done a better job”. The studios involved had a lot of limitations I don’t have to worry about such as corporate demands, logistic issues, and budgeting, and I have no intention of making any animation or other properly comparable medium.
Anyway, on this blog, you’re gonna read about:
Information about and progress on Reverie Equestria. It’s really hard to avoid spoiling the parts of the story I’m the most excited about. There will be more of those as I actually put content out.
Rants about why something a pony show / comic / etc. did is really stupid and why I think it was considered acceptable. (Implication: Reverie Equestria will not do it that way.) You will see a lot of this early on until I’ve exhausted the topics thereof.
Rants about an under-appreciated element of pony. (Implication: Reverie Equestria will incorporate or reference it.)
I’ve chosen Tumblr for this because I expect Tumblr to be hostile and childish, which is also what I expect when I criticize something with a rabid casual fandom. It’s just the best place for it, to avoid toxifying my other venues.
Have fun! Don’t bully anybody into suicide! Thanks!

TRIGGER WARNING : Multiple murders by ax, poison, and stabbing!
Haunted mansion: You have to get those ghosts in there somehow, right?
///////////////////////
Screaming foals in Nightmare Night costumes ran out of the old parlor and out into the night!
~THE END~

About the finale
I didn’t want to crap on somebody who drew a “thanks for being there MLP : )” fan art so I’m venting this here instead.
This show took me out of depression and put me right back in it.
Nobody needs to "watch the characters grow". We already know about babies growing up, growing old, and dying. We have our light and cheer snuffed out just fine by the real world, watching bright young children become bitter and jaded and boring, watching ourselves become bitter and jaded and boring, watching grandparents lose their minds and forget who they are before they go out like a candle.
We didn't and do not need MLP to do that shit to us too, until we’re so fucked in the head that half of the fans can’t even comprehend Pinkie Pie, the show’s embodiment of innocence and childlike joy, because the show has deviated so strongly from it otherwise.
Watching Twilight lose all of her endearing traits and end up as a snobby know-it-all 60% of the time and a generic heroic protagonist 40% of the time, blatantly saying she is not Twilight anymore, was heartbreaking.
Watching Fluttershy "become more assertive" not by showing courage in the face of fear, but by forgetting her fear and every other part of herself entirely and becoming a rash, back-talking jackass like Rainbow Dash was heartbreaking.
Watching Moon Dancer psychotically obsess with Twilight and flip out so hard that Twilight did not reciprocate that she threw her entire life away, cut off all her other friends, and shut herself up in her house, while said friends were too completely braindead to think anything was wrong, until however much time later when Twilight came back, and nobody brought up that Moon Dancer was legitimately mentally ill while Twilight just accepted what a piece of utter trash she supposedly was, was heartbreaking.
But not “heartbreaking” because I felt so bad for the characters... other than feeling bad that they deserved a better fucking show.
I stopped watching this show for years because it forgot what it was about and started putting out broken, unhealthy, depressing garbage.
When I came back to see it off in its final season, picking up from just before S6 where I had left off, I had no expectations for it. I refused to be angry or disappointed any longer - so I didn't.
(I get all bitter when and only when I interface, directly or indirectly, with some fan or another who doesn’t understand what was wrong with this god damn show.)
And so, by the time this ridiculous finale rolled around, all I could do was laugh.
Laugh at Fluttershy and Discord being married, what fucking lunatic thought this was okay.
Laugh at Applejack and Rainbow Dash being married, which is not only a S1-era fan pander but the most boring imaginable ship they could put either character in.
Laugh at Weird Al getting Pinkie pregnant, fuck that’s gross.
But not laugh because any of this was a good joke; shitting all over the characters and setting when you have no way to resolve a story is never a good joke. No, I laughed because it was just so goddamn tasteless, uncreative, and terrible, a bizarre ending to the bizarre, animated corpse of a once-great show (which was actually good again with the more comical, S1-like episodes of S9, but still ruined by all the shit-tier anime drama.)
A lot of people were only into MLP for the porn. I think they always felt the way that I felt after S5. They just did not find it any good other than having cute character designs. Of course, none of them cared about character potential, they just wanted another popular thing to draw porn of.
And it pisses me off that I simply don’t have the ability or resources to put Reverie Equestria together to do pretentious, sappy “feels” bullshit right.
Maybe that will change soon. It’s been so long I’m not sure I even remember what “right” is or what any of my dream projects are.
But even with all the opportunity in the world, it’s not like anybody will accept it unless it flatters their fucked-up ideals and their personal propaganda.
Them’s the breaks.
