I think it's time I go on a KOTOR rant-specifically about Jolee Bindo.
Jolee Bindo, for those who don't know, is a (repeatedly mentioned) old man who, while fighting with a lightsaber and the force, is more gray than anything else.
We see this again in the second game with Kreia. Both are gray force wielders that at least somewhat guide the main character through their journey and reveal more about themselves as the story continues.
The difference, or the most important one really, between them is that Kreia uses manipulation and deception to get her way. Jolee uses his past and his knowledge to (not so) gently nudge Revan to follow the canonical path of rejecting the dark side, saving Bastilla, and then the galaxy.
Jolee has a. troubled history. He was a padawan when he found the woman who would later be his wife. he knew she had great force abilities, and when he brought this to the Jedi Council, they refused to train her because she was too old. Jolee, however, didn't care. he knew she had great potential and decided to train her anyway.
And he was right.
She was a great Jedi, and they together were both stronger.
Until she found Exar Kun during his war. After hearing his story, she turned to the dark side. she begged Jolee to join, but he couldn't. He knew he had to destroy her, but he couldn't. not for a lack of ability, but a lack of capability.
He was physically unable to. so he didn't. he let her go after beating her and let her survive, where she went on to join the war and kill innocent people until she herself died.
Jolee went back to the council and told them what happened. That he, a padawan learner himself, trained and fell in love with a woman who fell to the dark side all while the council told him to leave her. He expected to be condemned, kicked out, punished. but he was praised.
He was given a second chance, this time with the rank of Jedi Knight. but he knew better. he knew he didn't deserve that. If they were willing to overlook his mistake, what else would they overlook? So he left.
Imagine how horrifying it must be to go through that then find a clueless Revan + friends years and years later and just hope beyond hope that they don't fall to the dark side.
But if Revan joins Bastilla and connects to the dark side, they kill both Juhani and Jolee. Both people with a deep and intense relationship with the dark side of the force, watching two of their strongest friends fall together and turn on them.
How horrible.

I always see fanart of Revan VS Bastila which is genuinely beautiful and I love a good enemies to lovers, but did they ever actually fight??? Other than when Bastila is turned to the darkside by Malak, I don’t think she actually fought him? My girl found him in a battlefield and simped if I’m not mistaken /I am genuinely curious.

I feel bad for Bastila. Being linked to Revan’s brain couldn’t have been easy.

I have once again concluded that HK-47 may be one of my fav droids in Star Wars (if not characters in general)
One of my favorite interactions w him:
Revan: "You don't need to call me master, you know.
HK-47: "Query: Don't I? I was under the assumption that organic meatbags such as yourself enjoyed such forms of address."
R: "'Organic meatbags'?"
HK: "Retraction: Did I say that out loud? I apologize, master. While you are a meatbag, I suppose I should not call you such."
R: "You just called me a meatbag again!"
HK: "Explanation: It's just that...you have all these squishy parts, master. And all that water! How the constant sloshing doesn't drive you mad, I have no idea..."
R: "Neither do I, come to think of it..."
HK: "Statement: Now do you understand the travails of my existence, master? Surely it does not compare to your existence, but still..."
R: "I survive. Somehow."
HK: "Commentary: As do I. It is our lot in life, I suppose, master. Shall we find something to kill to cheer ourselves up?"
Like oh my god that probably some of the best (humor wise) dialogue in this game imo.
Also the fact that HK calls people meatbags because HK called Malak a meatbag and Malak got pissed off so bad, but Revan found it absolutely hilarious so he coded it into HK to continue calling people meatbags
some of the best canon relationship moments we have from Revan and Malak fr

Wanna thank SWtOR for being only game (that I’ve played) that explicitly tells you which dialogue option is a flirting option.
So many games where I’m just genuinely trying to be nice/a good friend, or doing a mental health check and then reloading because it turns out I misread/misinterpreted the selection and it was a flirting option.
“Oooh you have a crush on me? ;)”
No Ben I’m treating you with basic human decency.

The KotOR games have plenty of memorable lines, but there's one I think is underappreciated.
After meeting all the rival Sith students and either sparing them or killing them, fighting your way through all these tombs, getting involved in Uthar & Yuthura's mutual backstabbing plot, and completing this final trial, there is the line I think is the culmination of Revan's arc, assuming you don't want to go back to galactic conquest.
Tumblr media
"I don't believe you. I don't feel superior to anyone."
This could be interpreted as only deriding the exam, but I saw it as rejecting the Sith way of thinking. You defeated the other students and impressed your teachers by passing the test. It feels not only hollow, but ridiculous. Revan isn't even upset or outraged, this was just dull. The test to become a Sith can be summed up as "Don't get eaten by monsters, don't be stupid enough to throw an incendiary grenade into a lake of acid, then bring back a mediocre lightsaber you don't want and will never use."
That's the Sith Academy. That's the Sith way. Inventing a bunch of inane tests for themselves and thinking that passing proves they're better than everyone else.
