My experience with a menstrual cup. Warning — TMI

It has been an interesting experience and honestly it’s a change that I’m going to keep up with. Not only does it lessen the waste of the sanitary products we use, it’s also more convenient as you don’t get rashes anymore and you save up on money and the hassle of changing your pad or tampon every few hours just disappears.

Although it’s not all rainbows and sunshine.

It is a tedious process to get used to, ngl I pinched myself numerous times while trying to either insert it or to break the seal to take it out. The first day was obviously a struggle but after 5–6 tries with different folds, I got it inside with the 7 fold.

Honestly I couldn’t even feel it inside of me and there were no leaks! It was like I wasn’t even on my period. You’re supposed to empty it out and reinsert it after 12 hours but if you need to go to the bathroom to poop, it’s recommended to take it out because one can end up pushing it out with the muscle contractions and I’m sure no one wants that. (TMI but its useful information)

I ended up wearing a pad to sleep that night since I was afraid of leakage since I am a first time user and my flow is usually heavy for the first 2 days.

Day 2 was a bit challenging since I had pinched myself multiple times trying to figure out how to take it out the day before. But I still put it in. I could feel it inside me and it was uncomfortable and it was hurting since I’m not used to the process of putting my hand in my vagina.

Also, since it’s suctioned in, there’s no way of it falling out and honestly it’s definitely worth a try. People can be sceptical about it but I mean if you’re used to putting in tampons, this shouldn’t really be that big of a problem. It takes time and this was just my first time using it but I would definitely use it again.

I think I’m going to make a permanent switch to it (I’m getting a bit too excited about it!) but honestly with pads, I always experience some sort of mess and it’s so annoying but with this, there was no spillage of any kind and it’s very easy to clean.

It’s super environmentally friendly and you can find so many videos on youtube of how to put it in and how to take it out. When i couldn’t figure out how to put it in the first time, I put on a video (sitting on the toilet) to see the different kinds of folds and successfully put it in.

I definitely recommend it, if you’re not going to switch, at least try it out. What’s the worst that could happen? It can’t get stuck up there or can it? You won’t know till you try!

The cup I used is Trucup. There is a brand Recircle in Pakistan and there are so many different brands, once you get on the internet, there are numerous possibilities of which one suits you best.

Also, if you’re too afraid to try it, start watching videos on youtube and do your research. Or you could buy it and keep it next to your sanitary products so at least you own it when you finally get the courage to try it.

I had decided beforehand that I would make the switch and as uncomfortable as this change seems, it is an easy transition(somewhat)
