A polite request dog walkers. Please keep your dogs on leads, especially if you see a donkey, pony or horse walking. If your dog doesn’t respond when called this is even more important. Over the last two days our donkeys have been bothered by out of control dogs, one a puppy that really should have been on a lead as was clearly still in training. Our donkeys are ok with K9s and will pass them with a slight side eye but no panic and are well trained. If a dog however gets in between its legs they will see this as a threat and react accordingly with a kick, natural response. Both of these dogs got a warning kick to the chest. Saying the dog is “only playing” is not an excuse and if the donkeys meant business and made contact with the head I am sure the finger of blame would have turned to us. Let’s as humans enjoy our animal friends with responsibility, so we can share them together.
