Kind of an explanation
Society fucking sucks.
We decided to group love into one word when the greeks and romans had like multiple.
I have friends. I have a handful of friends, that's one circle
I have... platonic relationships... that vary...
My two (technically 3) closest friends are that. Platonic relationships. That's the inner circle within friends. These are people I'd hold hands and be physically affectionate with because they're okay with it and they come to be bearing gifts
And then I have my found family that I find inside of that inner circle. My two big brothers, my little brother, and my kiddo because I feel those familial connections with them
I group them all under the word "platonic" because of society's inability to separate different types of Love. Let me do it the way greek/Latin does.
So let me redescribe it.
The first group of friends, circle one: Philia.
Philia is "a deep friendship considered safe because we are equal"
The inner group of friends, circle two: Pragma
Pragma is "long time committed love that is described by mutual support"
The familial group of friends, circle three: Storge
Storge is "a bond that can be shared between close family or friends"
They're all platonic. Just different types!
AND THERES MORE.
I have Ludus relationships (playful/casual fun type of love that can sometimes be long lasting)
You need Philautia love to make the world a little brighter around you
Does that still make it wrong?
...not really.
If YOU think you feel storge love between you and someone else, like thats only up to YOU and the other to understand.
Don't discourage yourself from finding out more.
might get shot and killed for this but allo people only being able to categorize platonic relationships as "parental" or "siblings" is actually so embarrassing. have you never had friends before

I do sort of wish western anime fans would analyze anime and manga from a framework of japanese historical and cultural context. Specifically a lot of works from the 90s being influenced by the general aimlessness and ennui that a lot of people were experiencing due to the burst in the bubble economy and the national trauma caused by the sarin terrorist attack. I think in interacting with media that’s not local to our sociocultural/sociopolitical sphere it’s easy to forget that it’s influenced and shaped by the same kinds of factors that influence media within our own cultural dome and there ends up being this baseline misalignment of perception between the causative elements of a narrative and viewer interpretation of those elements. It’s a form of death of the author that i think, in some measure, hinders our ability to fully understand/come to terms with creator intent and the full scope of a work’s merits

Laios Touden Period Cramps moodboard
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
[image ID: a 3x3 moodboard of alternating Dungeon Meshi manga panels and Delicious in Dungeon anime screenshots of Laios suffering from cramps and stomach pain, arranged in sequential order to show how his pain progresses. Laios is a blond tallman (human) in grey plate armor. In some images, there is a closeup of his face with a pained expression or crying, while the rest show him doubled over on the ground. In two manga panels, Laios says, "My stomach. Urrgh..." Narrative text from the other panels read, "Laios tried to say something... But overwhelming stomach pain and nausea wiped all thoughts from his mind. For an entire night, it felt like his stomach was being carved open from the inside." End ID.]

hi, i wanted to ask what you think about those japanese zoo's training exercises were someone dresses up as an animal and pretends to have escaped and all that, are they effective? what do U.S zoo's do to train for things like that?
They look silly, but they're a real emergency drill! They force people to think through how they'd problem-solve in real time and in the physical space, which is a very different experience than just thinking about it.
There's no consistent requirement for emergency drills in the US federal regulations for zoos, but there is a contingency planning one. Facilities licensed by the USDA have to identify and create plans for addressing likely emergencies they may have to deal with, which is everything from like natural disasters to animal escapes. That's all done as paperwork and provided to the government to prove they've done it.
BUT. That doesn't mean that zoos and other animal facilities don't do more planning on their own. Some of the third-party accreditations (it might be all of them but I don't have the docs in front of me to confirm) require regular drills for all types of emergency scenarios.
Now there's a slight problem there - a real escape drill, run fully on grounds with real people and stand-in animal, interferes with the daily operations of the zoo. You might not have to physically shut all the guests into buildings during a practice leopard escape, but you do need them to not get in the way, and you don't want to scare people who think a drill is real, etc. So there's an alternate option.
US zoos frequently run emergency management drills as TTRGPs!
Like, they use a printed scale map of the zoo and roll dice to randomize the situation. This is absolutely recommended as a strategy by the Zoo and Aquariums All Hazard Partnership: there's a whole webpage about it, including instructions for the Drill Master.
There are in-person drills, of course, because you have to practice dealing with these problems in meatspace. But a lot of them are done tabletop! I cannot express the extent of my mirth when I first encountered this in the wild at a conference about a decade ago, when the idea was really taking off. It was Very Serious Zoo People on a Very Serious Topic about preventing Really Bad Things from happening... and then suddenly there was a d20 on the screen.

The Blob
Dpxdc Prompt #20
Danny is a blob ghost now and he's fine with that.
Turns out all blob ghosts are just regular ghosts who have expended to much energy and turn into balls of pure ectoplasm and emotion to recharge.
It's honestly a much needed and much appreciated vacation from all of his responsibilities.
He doesn't understand why he's getting so many worship-fear-cowed emotions from these people, but he's a blob right now, he doesn't have to care.
There's one boy that constantly projects awed-love-infatuated towards him. Danny likes him a lot more than all of the other guys.
In the mean time, Ra's Al Ghul has just found what he believes to be the conscious personification of the Lazarus Pits and there is no way he is going to let any of his assassins offend it. If only he didn't have to worry about his grandson being so enamored with the being as well.
Grandfather never let Damian have any pets.
"Distractions," he would say, "Unnecessary attachments."
Damian disagreed, but he was smart enough not to voice his belief. The Demon Head's word is law and he bows to nobody.
Or at least... nobody until the little blob of sentient Lazarus Water.
Grandfather says that it must be the pits personified and therefore needed to be treated with respect so there would be no chance of them being taken away.
Damian has no problem following this rule, he finds the little blob cute, like the pet Damian would never get to have. When nobody's watching he pets the blob, tells it stories about his day, and stays silent as it does happy little purrs.
In the hell that is Nanba Parbat, the blob is a bright spot in Damian's days.
So obviously when he leaves to meet his Father and claim his right as heir to the Cowl he slips the blob into his go-bag. No one will notice, the blob normally floats around as it wishes, sometimes going missing for hours.
By the time Grandfather realizes the blob has been away too long for it to have been without intervention it will have been too late. No one will suspect that Damian took the blob with him.
At least, that's what Damian tells himself to justify taking the little guy with him. He is comforted by the low hum in his bag, the blob is happy, if no one else.

Genuinely obsessed with the fact that Viago wrote crow Rook a letter after the Antaam incident and literally just addressed them as idiot. I love their dynamic so much

i love the way sansa is so proud to be catelyn's daughter. in a world where women are expected to assimilate to their husbands' world once they get married, there's sansa adopting her mother's gods into her creed, taking pride in having her mother's looks, often choosing to wear the colors of her mother's house and, most importantly, drawing strength from her mother's memory. what's so great about this is that it's not an act of spite against her father. she's just proud of being both stark and tully. it's like arya said: the woman is important too.
