Please share. The situation in Italy is severe. What's happening? In these months our government became oppressive against students and protesters. Today police arrested a lot of people who were going to Rome to protest against the g3nocide in Palest*ne. They also started to attack LGBTQ+ people (especially trans/enby folks). They are attacking the scientific research. They are attacking our right to transition or get an ab*rtion. They are attacking our right to learn consent or discuss about queer topics. They ignore the vi0lence against women, BIPOC and queer folks. They are banning laws against discrimination because "it is an attack to free speech" but they are trying to attack everyone's right to exist. Before they start attacking the social medias, please share this.
#fuck italian government#italian government#this is italy#share#respect our existence#queer rights#free palestine#women rights#disabled rights#bipoc rights#human rights

Yeah I need some of y’all to stop using ‘YA’ as a catch-all term for immature and lacking depth because it is revealing a lot about the value you see in both the authors and target audience of those books
#the way some of you got from praising the hunger games as the pinnacle of literature#then turn around and say all ya is stupid#some ya isn’t great. same with adult lit.#y’all just don’t analyze what you read#and don’t respect teenagers#I’m gonna argue the gritty adult novel that just seems to hate women#is doing a whole lot less#than the novel-in-verse ya retelling of Arachne#dealing with discrimination on grounds of gender and disability and living with the aftermath of sa and how structures and systems are buil#to fail you and the people who have crashed through the glass ceiling will not risk their own position to help you#the book is called Spin fyi and it’s incredible

*twirling my hair* do you like cassandra cain? if not, do u have a moment to hear about our lord and saviour cassandra cain?
CASSANDRA CAIN MY LOVE!!! She's definitely the batgirl I've read the most in terms of full issues, the first 30-ish issues of her solo by Kelly Puckett Scott Peterson and Damion Scott had me hooked and I binged them but fell off after Horrocks came on (nothing against him, he was just given an editorial mandate to make the book more romance focused and it turned me off because it felt so ooc for Cass to me lol. I do own some of the issues he wrote tho! I like the ones with art by Rick Leonardi). I'm not really caught up with modern comics (ish??) And I'm not reading anything dedicatedly but I hear she's in a new original book teaming up with a magic user? Neat! Good for her. I love her in the shadow of the batgirl graphic novel (IT'S SO GOOD)
#ramblings of a lunatic#asks#^ sorry had to be tistic about things for a minute#i loved damion scotts artwork for her solo series sm (especially the later moee stylized stuff even though i recognise how bonkers-#-the proportions are i can't help myself. i like women and i love stylised art like that)#his stuff was surprisingly influential on my own art. idk how much it shows these days but It's There#this hasn't mentioned anything about what i love about cass as a character but like. it's the same as most people who love her man#i love her self destructive dedication to redemption i love the guilt she's saddled with-#-and how it's juxtaposed with her committment to kindness and justice i love how she's the fucking best and she knows it#i love how the relationship between her and oracle was an intergenerational mentorship between two disabled women#and her gay ass bond with stephanie (who in all fairness may be my fav batgirl???-#-but I've also read wayyy less complete issues of her compared to cass due to the differences in how their respective series' are-#-formatted but like. what i have seen i tend to love. i love u stephanie)#but also dear god i do not wanna get reeled back in because nothing the industry ever does will please me the way the ideas in my head do#and I'm constantly at war with myself reading stuff#also it's just hard to get back in when you've been gone with a while it's all just very difficult#but i am rotating cass and stephanie in my brain like a microwave waiting for someone to explode#plenty of people smarter than me have already said this but cass should team up with jason and they should both seethe#he wants to kill. she keeps breaking his bones if he tries it. they're both brushing each others philosophies off bc of where they exist-#-on the batfamily ''kill/no kill'' binary even though they share similarities of wanting to be batman but Better#(jason via controlling crime and killing criminals and her with her ultimate dedication to the symbol and superior combat skills)#(also keep in mind i just watched utrh but haven't read a rhato comic in yonks. so if this is an outdated jason characterization+#-then whoopsie <3)#Jason's dedicated to pushing buttons and poking holes in batmans philosophy and cass is great at reading ppl-#-and sometimes in her series she then performs a limited psychoanalysis of them and tears them apart#(at least she did for shiva) I'd love to see her do that to jason. break him so i can tape his sad lil ass back together#this is getting away from me. anyway no need to proselytise. I'm a former alter boy round here

a child who is seven and crying in public is just that. they are seven. SEVEN years old. that’s all their life experience. it takes four years to learn about one major subject of concentration in college, to expect a person who has been conscious of their own memory and being for barely half their life to have the full emotional and situational experience and regulation as you is beyond cruel, even more so to demonize them for it. any child who is younger than that has even less. bitching about a crying newborn who hasn’t even had water for the first time in their life as a grown adult is a strange, selfish, and dangerous mentality. acting like a child should be completely regulated just because they’re in highschool is an immense burden. to have a conscience, sure; to be able to think about right from wrong, sure; but to expect them to have it all figured out when down to a cellular level, everything in their life is shifting for the first time since birth, and they should deal with that silently just so you don’t have to see or hear them is unrealistic and unkind. it’s such a tragic irony coming from adults who constantly feel like they have some part of their “inner child” they have to heal. i’m sure if someone were kinder to you as a kid you wouldn’t feel the need to hate so endlessly and struggle to piece togther who you are because someone made you feel like your existence was less than
nobody has to raise children and change diapers and feed and clothe and bathe them if they don’t want to. you don’t have to deescalate a temper tantrum or deal with the mood swings of a teenager. but as an adult, you absolutely do not expressly upset and uncontrollably irritated that there are children in the world and in public space and on planes and in line for food and in sephora and at the movie theater. children live and love and learn in the world just as you do, you don’t get to wish them away from that. i’ll bet you were an annoying ass insufferable child, too, but the solution was not to post online and gather an audience who vehemently hate your existence just for being. express your temporary discomfort or annoyance sure, but to a community of real life people, not to an audience of other spiteful adults in a space where children don’t know they are being mocked. it’s bullying, it’s mean, it’s spiteful, it’s picking a fight with someone who has no means to defend themselves and faulting the caregivers who are already doing everything they can to care for them, just because their plan for raising their kid didn’t take into account your bitter soul. you are entitled to a child-free life, not a child-free world. there is no excuse to be mean to them or speak ill about them.
people have got to be nicer to and about kids
#i understand that for women there is the unfair expectation to be matronly and materanlistic at all times sven if you have no children#but you need to recognize that is just that: it is unfair#no amount of willful spite and misplaced anger is ever going to make it okay to be mean to children#all it does is enable their abuse disseminate their rights and dismantle their personhood before they even get the CHANCE#to figure out who they are#it’s not cute#no amount of ‘this class of children sucks’ or ‘#`kids are so annoying’ jokes are innocuous. none of them are in jest none of them are innocent#they all rob children of the chance to be expressive and to EXIST#it is a blessing to be able to think for yourself and regulate the thoughts in your head#it is a blessing to be able to navigate the world without the help of another and to be able to have another to rely on when you need it#children do not yet have that privilege and it is cruel and insidious to ‘joke’ that they do not deserve to learn how to achieve it#or to insinuate that they do not deserve the leeway to learn#you are only who are you because you’ve learned how to be. children deserve to exist and learn of their own autonomy without you wishing#them away. it’s not funny at all.#also idc if you want children or not#all the worlds children are children and they are your own. they deserve kindness and respect and it IS the responsibility of an adult to#give them that grace. regardless of if you want kids or not#and like. all of that is before people even THINK to factor in neurodivergent or disabled or adopted or orphaned children#they deserve respect all of them. being cruel for what. a joke and a giggle??

"transandrophobia isn't real bc men aren't oppressed for being men, only for other marginalizations they face"
okay well i am a brown disabled trans masc person and i'm telling you i DO experience oppression on the basic of being what ppl perceive as me "being a man."
what is it when Black men are treated like violent, scary criminals? it's racism, yes, but it's also a specific form of racism that applies especially to Black MEN.
what is it when Indigenous men are expected to be "noble s*vages" in a way that is distinct from the way Indigenous women and nonbinary ppl are categorized?
what is it when disabled men are explicitly harmed for being weak or "not real men?" what is it called? is it JUST ableism? if so, why does gender continuously play a part in the harm?
what is it when trans men are assaulted or killed for not being "man enough?" what do we get to call transphobia that we, specifically, face for being masculine?
what about my fellow Black and brown trans dudes who hesitated to transition for fear of being fucking killed by cops? or are they just imagining it too?
why is it that when WE acknowledge our pain and oppression, we're suddenly just men and apparently aren't smart enough to know our own experiences? why do you get to tell me these things aren't real?
y'all will really talk about how patriarchy hurts everyone and then turn around and tell afab ppl whose genders you think are too privileged to sit down and be quiet. as if we didn't hear that from everyone else in our lives since birth. as if this isn't aimed at us SPECIFICALLY bc we're not the group YOU think deserves safety and respect. fuck you.

something that bothers me that i have a hard time articulating is the trend of saying "you just hate women" to trans men
something i see a lot when transmascs stand up and have respect for ourselves is accusations of hating women. frankly it seems like a lot of people have not unpacked that we don't transition because we hate women, we transition because a lot of us (not all, but a lot) don't want to be women. here's your obligatory "but of course there are misogynist trans men out there! i have to say this because otherwise someone could say i hate women and want to downplay their struggles. you know, the exact thing i'm talking about in this post"
either way sometimes people understand misogyny is not stored in the gender and then are extra pissed when a trans man is a misogynist. he shouldn't be, that's shitty, but his misogyny is treated like a betrayal worse than a cis person's misogyny.*
it feels like people want transmascs to be these ultra educated feminists who sit and listen and never speak up about our individual issues (this applies to transfeminine and intersex people too). it's really frustrating to try to talk about double standards and things wrong with the world due to the patriarchy, toxic masculinity, and other intersecting factors (race, age, disability, etc.) and get told "shut up you just hate women" ???? it is not the fault of women that the issues we talk about exist and we say that, but i guess if you believe hard enough that anyone who uses the word transandrophobia hates women, that will magically make it true
*this also happens to transfems a lot. if you've ever cracked down on a transfem for saying something you would let slide from a cis person, examine that

I'm Transgender guy but I'm also black and disabled, so I am an Intersection of things people despise and it's hard asf when communities tend to be transphobic/transmisognistic, racist/anti black, and ableist. please treat black disabled trans queers with respect. ESPECIALLY BLACK TRANS WOMEN AND TRANSFEMS(especially if they're disabled too)

4-5 I have been having a lot of thoughts about the franchise lately, tbh, mainly in line with
"Where is the leftist activism in their universe?"
"Where are the disability advocates talking about how people are dehumanizing people with mutations, or how all adaptation is s double sided coin or how being socially disabled is still a disability"
"Where is the Autistic mutant alliance?"
"Where is the Queers for mutant rights advocacy groups?"
"Where's the intersex mutant alliance groups?"
"Where are the people pointing out that the x gene is by far not the only human mutation that causes both symptoms and sometimes different abilities, and that maybe these are not issues we can separate?"
"Where are the people trying to point out that framing it as mutant vs human instead of human vs human is like when we let them start calling anti-fascism 'antifa' to sound scary?"
We always see either mobs coded as republican and American Christians of the worst sort or hate groups to the far right, but does leftism not exist in their universe, we hardly ever see a non mutant individual speak out publicly in their favour at all. I know the left is full of infighting and mutants would make terf's heads explode, but like... Where is the intersectionality?
And Magneto... My biggest gripe with him is how he never mentions the disabled or queer in the same breath as mutants, and it comes across like mutations with powers are the only ones he cares about... It comes off like eugenics which I feel like super would not realistically be his bit.
I have so many... Notes. Especially about a modern 2024 take on the x-men...
So like yeah I am invested in the franchise to a fairly high degree, but a lot of it is demanding they get better cooks. I am attached to these characters now and I want to see them written better.
You were never going to be palatable to the political right, unless they lack all media literacy at all. Stop tiptoeing.
Before kicking off a project I want to gauge what the heat will be like here so do me a favor and answer honestly on a scale of 1 (complete apathy) to 5 (devout enthusiasm):
#I literally have a liver mutation that makes me age slower heal faster and be slightly more immune to cancer#like a very nerfed -and very annoying- version of wolverine#annoying for *me*#my immune system is currently trying to eat my muscles though which is unrelated but taxing said liver condition so...#My point is there's no way that mutants would not be part of the disabled community in general#Realistically I have multiple mutations that contribute to fast recovery and also effectively heightened senses even#as if my genes are doing a bit#they are being funny haha#there is no universe where the disabled do not see themselves in mutants and mutants do not see themselves in the disabled#And that's ignoring that a lot of mutants would be both#because not all mutations are going to be fucking useful#some will be pretty much all downsides#because that's what mutation and adaptation do#our genes mutate and try shit and sometimes that shits bad even objectively#never mind being ill fit to environment#This franchise was always allegory and never wanted to be on the nose IG but it's gone way too far out the side of ignoring leftist issues#like okay there's some slight open queerness now but like... MAKE IT GAYER and WEIRDER and MORE DISABLED talk about intersex issues#and make a fuss about just how much genetic variance is NORMAL for HUMANS including “mutants”#because the fact is you know mutants in real life#they just can't walk through walls or walk away from a plane crash unscathed#okay 'conceptually' probably a 5#lets have a conversation about how mutants would know what it feels like to have the world act entitled to your body and person 24/7#and how that would play into understanding and respecting women's rights#even if you are trying to write characters like Logan as super macho especially Logan#I think it would be a particular trigger for him to not respect a person's autonomy yes I said trigger and yes I mean trigger#Lets have these conversations textually in media for adults#and lets drop the obligate sexism#people are constantly violating that mans autonomy and have you seen his temper anyone writing him should know he would defend a woman's#right to her own body violently#To write him otherwise is to have zero understanding of how people function

Astro obs
Sun in Scorpio and/or 8th house have deep understanding of their own self and often have a very religious upbringing
Sun opposite moon has their heart vs their head type of thing, they lead with their heart and the thinking comes after
Mercury opposite moon has the tendency to say the opposite of what they actually feel, however, not in genuinely deceitful way just simply not really having to feel anything about the words they say
Mercury in Scorpio has the ability to say really deep and insightful things and be really blunt
Venus in Scorpio have a lot of love for people who can be damaging to them
Venus square Neptune has the power to use other's perceptions of them as they're weapon if they are given the opportunity to be forced into that power
Mature Gemini Venus men are the most thoughtful, mercury Venus men have the most thoughtful love language
People with disabilities often have Aquarius influence and/or uranus influence which makes sense especially with Aquarius mercury they have a common trait of having a learning disability or just a unique perspective and often maybe a lisp, every time I meet an Aquarius mercury they have said that they used to have a lisp when younger
Cancer Suns are the most caring but sometimes this can lead them into toxic relationships and keep them there, but love is reckless
Cancer moons are totally a mamas boy placement every time I see it I know that they love their mom or just have a healthy respect for women, though it's usually learned through life lessons so if Saturn is on this then it will take them a long time to learn to respect women
Gemini placements and Scorpio placements have the ability to expedite growth and transformation through genuine curiosity and passion for deeper knowledge, these quincunx by aspect but make a good duo for lifelong learning especially with a healthy mix of Saturn speaking of lifelong 💀
12th house placements are the kids in school who sat alone on the bus and never talked to people unless ppl talked to them, very brooding but actually they're just very observant and reserved, usually due to bullying because these placements are not average by any means, they have a deep understanding of spirituality whether they love it or hate it
Thanks for reading 💓👽

Personally I assumed it to be not so much human experimentation, simply because we mostly got more advanced techniques now that doesn't require it, but more of a DNA/genome editing thing. Human experimentation is more prevalent on No Mans Land because they are basically working with scraps and ethics are looser. But I mean yeah hands on experimentation was the norm for most of human history too obviously.
But I am also pretty sure it's supposed to be representative of God creating humans in his image.
So I’ve had a bit of a thought about plants ever since reading Trimax (no spoilers because we get no answers though lol), and I can’t help but wonder if anyone else has reached the same conclusion? Given the twisted, often mutilated but human-adjacent form that plants have in any given version of Trigun, and given that independent plants are nearly built just like humans…
Are plants the product of human experimentation?
In every translation of what little info I’ve seen, it’s stated that plants were created by humans. Not the product of alien life or anything, but of humans themselves. And given how they look, and given Tesla… Well, I just think it makes an awful lot of sense.
It also makes both Knives and Vash’s plight a bit more interesting, if we’re all growing off the same branch.
#also yea Knives fear of humans stems from alienation#he doesn't think all humans are bad he's just afraid of their capacity to be#which YES it is ironic because Knives is at his core as human as they come. wether he realizes this or not (pretty sure he does#since he does drop the 'theres no difference between human hearts and ours') his intentions are and have always been self preservation#the problem isn't that they are alike; it's that humans will just see the otherness#and just as you've said: just as human history has proven: ''otherness'' lets people do heinous things without shame#it doesn't matter if we're all human. we're Different.#and there's more of Them than there is of Us#Vash also experiences the alienation obviously (constantly) but he holds onto the hope that humans can change and respect everyone despite#because if Rem could then so can the rest. Knives knows this too. Knives thinks this too. He just don't believe it's going to happen quick#enough that they will ever live to see it and therefore it's necessary to fight back#yeah I'm rambling again#but anyway it's not an accident that Knives gang consists of societal outcasts.#trans and gender nonconforming women; former sex ''worker''; physically disabled; dwarfism; disfigured#also Midvalley is there idk about him#trigun

I feel like I'm going insane.
Why does Gale's "good ending" if you don't date him imply that he gets back with Mystra.
Why does the grown ass woman who intentionally isolated 17-year-old Wyll and trapped him in a relationship get to hang out in your camp (and potentially sleep with you).
Why do the writers (head writer and literally Wyll's personal character writer included!) have so little respect and tact when talking about their characters' traumas only when they are male and their abuser is female.
Nobody would find it funny if the Christmas animatic had Astarion blush at a picture of Cazador. Nobody would think it was "a good resolution" if Karlach saved and then dated Gortash at the end of the game.
And the characters aren't treated well outside of their relationships either, the writers love to laugh when people call Wyll boring or Gale annoying. I dunno what's worse: all the extra in-game dialogue calling Gale pathetic, or the fact that Wyll barely has any additional dialogue at all. With the additional factors of Wyll being the only Black companion and Gale being the only one with a disability that is somewhat "inconvenient" to the player (because God forbid a person need help), it just comes across as implicit bias from the writers themselves. To create these representations and then shit on them for traits that not only may be relatable to your audience, but traits that you gave them.
When Neil accepted the award for best performance he told people who relate to Astarion that "you are not alone." It's a beautiful sentiment, but paired with writers fetishising Wyll's abuse and saying Gale's best ending is the one where he kills himself, it comes across as though for POC, the chronically ill/disabled, or male victims of women, the statement does not apply.
#i thought the whole point was that theyre all victims#but with how these writers treat gale's relationship with mystra and Wyll's abuse by mizora I'm honestly not sure#bg3#larian critical#baldur's gate 3#wyll ravenguard#gale dekarios#gale of waterdeep#bg3 wyll#bg3 gale

"Finnish polka" - Ivar the Boneless x Reader
SUMMARY: After helping one of the northern Jarls, the Lothbrok brothers attend a celebratory feast. There, they're faced with a tradition of warriors catching flower crowns that belong to young women. How surprised Ivar is when you almost shove your crown into his hands.
WORDCOUNT: ~ 2.1k
Enjoying my work? You can leave me a tip on Ko-Fi
Ivar is tired.
Of course he's glad that Jarl Thorstein came out victorious. And that his brothers are fine. Still, he feels weary as the adrenaline leaves his body. His legs start to ache. Ivar downs the rest of his mead in hopes it makes him a little more deaf to his mood.
The upbeat, bright music fills his mind like an obsessive thought. His heart beats to the rhythm tapped by the feet of dancing women. They spin, jump and run around with flower crowns sitting atop their heads. How the wreaths remain immovable, he can't quite say.
Ivar is also angry.
As the local tradition entails, when the song ends, all the dancing young maidens will throw their flower crowns to the crowd. Whoever catches it, is believed to be the girl's lover chosen by the gods. However, whether the couple indulges and trusts gods' judgement is a different story. But if the wreath falls to the floor, the girl is said to remain unmarried for the next five years.
Ivar knows the chance of him somehow catching one of those is near zero. He's sitting quite far from the dancers. Even if he did catch it, he's disillusioned about the imminent dissatisfaction of the flower crown's ownert. Not only is he disabled in a way that almost entirely excludes him from fighting but he's also infamous for his ruthless nature and vengeful heart. Hardly a man who invokes desire. Still, some naive piece of him remains hopeful that maybe he's wrong. Maybe he can be terrible and loved all the same.
He shakes those weak delusions away from himself before they sour his mood further.
His piercing eyes have been following one of the dancers for the better part of the song when he catches himself. Her movements look effortless even when the musicians pick up the tempo. Clearly, she's done this dance one too many times to have any doubts about what she's doing. Joy beams from her in a way that makes her appear almost shining. The wreath on the top of her head is mostly green with white and red flowers. It makes Ivar think of the woods surrounding Kattegat; it makes him think of home.
Ivar leans toward Oddleif, one of the Jarl's men, who's sitting next to him.
"Who is she?"
Oddleif looks at Ivar out of the corner of his eye. He scoffs, takes a large sip of his drink and only then decides to answer:
"If you're thinking of catching her flower crown, don't." His blond braids dance slightly as he shakes his head. There's a hint of laughter hiding in the back of Oddleif's throat. "Half of the surviving army wants it."
"I have no care for flowers," Ivar lies through his teeth. "They have no use. They wilt and die and soon no one remembers them. I am simply curious about her."
"Her father is the blacksmith. You might have seen him in the battle, swinging that damned sledgehammer." Ivar silently nods. He remembers that man - tall as a pine tree and wider than a stable. The blacksmith invokes respect even when he's not decimating enemies like a troll equipped with a tree trunk. "He said once that he'll let any man marry his daughter but only if he can lift an anvil. Tried it once myself. Not that I had any success as you can imagine." Oddleif laughs bitterly and continues drinking. His eyes are glued to the dancers but Ivar knows that right now, the two of them are admiring the very same girl with a flower crown like a forest.
The melody continues to quicken. Despite being out of breath, you don't want it to end. Your feet ache but they do not falter nor do they stumble. It seems that their muscles know the dance better than your mind. There are a dozen girls dancing with you but you do not see them. Not really. They appear worlds away from you and the song of bagpipes and strings.
And then appears he.
A slouched, dark figure flies before your eyes as you're doing another pirouette. The man simply sits there, in the corner, but his presence is overwhelming. Or so you think. He does nothing and yet he tears his way into your microcosm of quick footwork, turns and lively polka.
You recognize him. Of course you do. Many whispers, equally frightened and amazed, have spoken of him. You have believed in all of them until the moment you met his gaze for that split second. Right then, somewhere between blinks and breaths, you renounce every gossip you've ever heard about him. A voice in the back of your head, a trickster or an oracle, nags at you to learn the truth yourself.
When the lively, fast melody comes to a stop, you find yourself shaken awake from the thoughts about Ivar the Boneless. The end of the song seems somewhat abrupt to you as you've been letting your fantasy run wild without paying much attention to what's going on around you. Dancing the last part purely by the memory of your muscles. The moment musicians stop playing, a small crowd begins to form in front of you. Men of different class, age and ancestry reach out their hands. Each one of them is more determined than the other to catch your wreath. They start to yell something but considering that the inside of the long hall is awfully loud anyway, you can't make out any words. Reading their lips, you can only tell when they're exclaiming different variations of your name.
They're only pushing towards you, shoving each other away. You keep taking steps backwards but the distance you create with each step is quickly shortened with the men calling out to you. You knew there would be many of them in front of you but never assumed that many. Instead of somewhat flattering, the siege is terrifying and imposing.
Looking for help or advice, just something that will ease your tension, you silently look around the long hall. Your gaze falls on the same slouched, dark figure. Strange peacefulness washes over you when his eyes meet yours.
The dim candlelight seems to bend around Ivar, making his corner appear darker than anywhere else in the long hall. He's simply sitting there. Maybe he's not interested? But the way he's staring at you shows nothing if not burning curiosity. The sons of Ragnar aren't know for their patience. No, they're said to take whatever they want the moment their desire sparks. Despite that, the youngest of them, and arguably the most famous, appears to be waiting. But for what exactly?
The fresh pine needles prick your skin. You furrow your eyebrows. Your gaze falls to the wreath and then comes back to Ivar. Could it be...?
It isn't much of a throw, really. You toss the flower crown towards him without looking anywhere else but into Ivar's eyes. Without as much as blinking, he catches the wreath with ease as though he has been prepared for that. Low murmurs hit your ears but quickly the sounds of disappointment fall silent as it's made clear who caught your wreath. Despite their initial determination, the men who had been reaching out to you suddenly disperse like fog does in the early morning. They knew better than to get under the skin of a Lothbrok. Especially that one.
"I believe this belongs to you."
Ivar is holding up the wreath. Despite his words, he makes no effort to offer it back to you. His eyes are bright and glistening, the corner of his mouth is tugged ever-so-slightly upwards. He appears amused.
At first, it was nice to finally sit down after dancing for what seemed to be hours on end. But now, when you're facing the consequences of your spur-of-the-moment decision, the tension sets in once more. This time, however, it doesn't feel threatening. In turn, the nervousness is somewhat welcome like the jittery state before a surprise is revealed.
"If I wanted to keep it, I wouldn't have thrown it," you answer in a light tone.
"And why should I keep it?"
The blue eyes study you for a moment. It's a strange feeling - you can't help but think that the longer you are in Ivar's presence, talking or not, he's reading your mind and soul. He stares at you in a way that tells you he already holds all the answers but wants you to confirm them.
"It's said to bring good luck." You shrug your shoulders. "Until the wreath wilts and dies, Freya and Freyr will look after you."
Ivar looks at the flower crown again. Only now, when he's holding it, does he realize that for a flower crown, there aren't many flowers. A few sandworts and poppies, yes, but the wreath is made mostly of evergreen plants. It might take weeks until the crown wilts.
The microcosm seems closed again. Now it's not you and the bagpipes but you and him. It's strange and it's new but it's not threatening. It's not the kind of presence a man of his infamy should have. Or perhaps you've simply fallen for his honey trap.
"Why did you throw it to me?" Ivar tries to make the question seem unimportant, just curiosity brought to light. But he can't quite convince himself that he doesn't care. There's a hint of something vulnerable and genuine when the words roll off his tongue. It's easy to miss like a dandelion clock carried away by a gust of wind.
You wish you knew the answer yourself.
"I don't know really," you say honestly. "Perhaps it was one of the gods that threw the flower crown for me." You make a pause. Ivar's face is unreadable. "Or perhaps I have no interest in urgent, desperate men."
Ivar chuckles. A deep shadow is covering part of his face, making him appear kind of sinister. For a moment, you question whether he's laughing with you or at you.
"And what exactly makes you think I'm not urgent or desperate?" he continues. You notice his smile is growing wider. That glint of amusement in his blue eyes has changed in mischief. "What if I'm worse than all of them? You surely know who I am."
"Of course I do, Ivar the Boneless," you drone the words. In a barely noticeable fashion, he clenches his jaw when you say his name. It makes him feel a strange, burning sensation in his stomach but Ivar is left unsure whether he likes it or detests. "The whispers of your ruthless character are unending."
"But you're not afraid?" he asks with both disbelief and suspicion. A girl with a flower crown doesn't necessarily strike him as fearless in any way. Or this whole strange situation is a little too good, too dream-like, for him to accept it at face-value.
Ivar's smile falters when your face takes on a confident, maybe even arrogant, expression. He's taken aback.
"I'm a woman of the North," you say while leaning towards him on the table. The distance between your faces shortnes. "The only person I fear is my own reflection."
The sudden closeness makes Ivar inhale sharply. The strong smell of pine needles fills his nostrils. For a moment, his imagination runs wild but it's not his fault - he has no grasp on it:
How those big eyes glistened in the semi-dark of the long hall as you were staring at him. Your smirk, somewhat challenging and beckoning him to push on. Then, the smell of conifer that shakes all senses awake. His fantasy leaves the northern snows and travelles to forests, to him brushing pine needles from your hair and your naked, flushes skin smelling of evergreen trees.
But quickly his shaken awake, to his utmost displeasure, by you:
"Well, if you don't want it, I suppose I should take it back, no?"
Your hand unsurely reaches out for the wreath in Ivar's hand. He's quick to pull his arm back.
"It's bad luck to take back gifts," he states plainly. In an act of nonchalance, Ivar is playing with the wreath, spinning it around his finger. "I should like to keep it."
Sometimes you come back to the night you've met the infamous Viking, when you're rendered sleepless while he's calmly breathing next to you, getting the rest he desperately needs. How funny all of it seems - that a flower crown in bloodied, merciless hands could lead to having a genuine crown on your head. Maybe you were right, after all, and it really was the hand of one of the gods that threw the wreath for you.

also btw im sorry but we HAVE to acknowledge that marginalized people are gonna be into problematic kinks too. there are trans people who are into misgendering & detrans kink there are gay people into conversion/orientation play there are fat people into feedism there are people of color into raceplay there are disabled people into disabled fetishes there are women into misogyny fetishes! for a variety of reasons! and you have to not care. you have to learn that it does not fucking matter. ignore the little gremlin in your brain that tells you that arguing over the morality of what gets consenting adults off is important or worthwhile & that having a fetish = condoning or believing or acting out any of that kink outside a scene or that it makes your activism invalid & you are a Better Activist for not having that kink. that's the devil talking. also no their partners are not inherently evil for indulging in their kinks either. you don't have to enjoy these things or even want to see or hear about them & your boundaries should be respected, but once you start letting people kinks color your perception of them as a person you've already lost. Destroy That Gremlin
