can i request playing a horror game with sniper… or scout
Of course!!!! I love this request so much thank you for sending it in <33 (did sniper and scout because they are The Guys of all time) Sorry this took so long!! love y'all <3
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Spooky Time with the lads!!
Sniper
Would LOVE the resident evil games, dear god somebody bring this man to life, please, he needs to see chris redfield, needs to experience the joy of getting that stupid chess piece puzzle in the second game right.
Big fan of sorta niche horror games, can easily imagine him starting muttering about how a game’s mechanics were ‘directly taken from’ another game from like forty years ago you’ve literally never heard of. Probably almost exclusively uses knives and rifles, this man does not know the word "medium" LMAO
Quick time event hater, can’t find the keys quick enough, usually gets messed up. But subsequently, five minutes later, pulls off the juiciest, most amazing tactic you've ever seen.
“I don’t… Really get why they’ve got to mark everything with that ruddy yellow paint, like, I’m not blind…” This is followed by him repeatedly walking into zombies because ‘the brightness is too low’ TAKE YOUR SUNGLASSES OFFFF
Would definitely go out of his way to set the mood, assuming you guys are playing in his camper, probably on his TV (i love the 1970s let’s just play pretend…), he’d have all the lights off, and maybe a candle on, would probably play spooky music on his phone and almost shit himself when an ad plays.
Would have the time of his life, honestly, a night in playing games with you would probably be a great way to top off his day, but he definitely suggests some spooky games you guys could play outdoors, flashlight tag being top priority (he thinks it's funny as hell chasing you around in the dark)
Scout
Screaming. Endless SCREAMING.
Would definitely be the kind to run directly at a threat, screaming, and immediately start yelping like a trod on puppy when Shit Happens.
“AY! AY- NO! NAH, C’MON!” Viciously mashing buttons on the controller. “WE DON’T PLAY LIKE THAT ‘ROUND ‘ERE C’MON MAN! I DON’T WANNA FIGHT YOU! Well- Nah- okay, I do- COME HERE.” Looney tunes style monster chasing him into a room immediately turns into him chasing the monster out of the room.
^^ Absolutely a controller player, if the game doesn’t support a controller, he’s probably not playing. (He likes knowing that if he gets mad enough, he’s got an easily Throwable Item at hand /j!! He'd just find it way easier, less buttons to mess around with.)
He is definitely gritting his teeth waiting for jumpscares the ENTIRE time, especially if you decide to play a more atmospheric game. He's wincing when he has to walk around a corner,
Would absolutely be sloooowly shuffling up against your side, he’s not scared, no, what? No, definitely not scared, man! He’s the coolest Bostonian this side of… not Boston! Shaddup!
Completely misses almost EVERY quest objective, but is adamant that he knows what he's doing at all times. Eventually, after half an hour of him searching for an item, you have to vaguely guide him towards it.
If the game has weapons, you best believe that if there's a bat, he's using it, but will also rant if it breaks. "Wh- Whaddaya mean it broke in like... uh- Three swings?! That's DUMB! Man, I know I swing hard, but, c'mon!" ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ btw I just wanted to say to anyone who's reading this, thank you :) thank you anon for this request, thank you to everyone who's liked, reblogged, and commented, you're all so kind <3 and also some of the reblog tags I've gotten literally have me GRINNING!!!!! :D << me fr!! Hope you're all well, sorry this is short, my silly ass probably gonna write some more Sniper stuff soon :3

Curse of the Nitghborne.
Guys, I haven't had time to play a lot, but I think the god of this land MAY BE the bad guy, but don't listen to me much.
Get up, folk! Flor did another Curse of Strahdanya crossover after Derek mentioned Lethica fused with Strahdanya as one throw joke in a stream!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The style is indeed inspired by the great art in Hades (the videogame), and the background is by Hades II.
The drawings without text:
Also, this was written at four in the morning, and I refuse to correct my insomniac ramblings this is the beta experience:
Tumblr media
Lethica Nightborne as Strahdanya
----LORE------- In Barovia, a land of the dead, of suffering and grief, a new god has appeared out of nowhere covering the land in an eternal night... Of happiness? Lethica Nightborne, known as the Divine, has presented herself as the saviour that the land needed it, for what seems like decades. Her light, her kindness, her power, has changed the region and the hearts of the people to their core, as the land has been reborn... As there's new blood... But of course, you can't blame the nature of evil, so there's still death, suffering and pain in Barovia, but of course, our saviour, our dear wife, cleans it as she chooses. And if she asks for a sacrifice, of course, we will bring it to her, if she asks for the firstborn of every family, we will name the second after her, and if she asks that we take care of her dinner guests, we shall take care of them. -----DESIGN------- All I knew of Lethica was that I wanted her to wear a veil, and she couldn't only be a countess but a whole god, the saviour of Barovia. The churches don't talk about sun gods, only of her, their lady of dark, their god. Her dress comes from mixing Stradhanya's and hers, ending in a very 19th figure, with a bit of Mesopotamian fashion (the metal belts and sleeves with the double skirt) to show her as a figure of the past, as somehow older than she appears. Of course, she had to have some kind of knife so a knife fan, and a cup to show wealth and power (her cup is always full, full of what? Well, if you look at the very pale man under with not a lot of blood left-)
Tumblr media
Marius Renathyr as Victoria Issacs
-----LORE------- Marius as a man of Ilmater seems to be QUITE interested in Barovia, a land of suffering and grief, to the extreme that seems too personal to just be a missionary mission to conquer pain. The university doesn't trust him completely, but somehow, even as a new member of the university and resident of Druskenwald, Marius had found a way to get the vote of everyone involved and the funds for the crusade. But what would be the real reasons for such travel? Or... WHO is the real reason? ------DESIGN ------ Inspired by the old missionary ropes of the 1800s and the typical vampire hunter, Marius stands as a very weird-looking holy man. From Victoria's design, we get the rosary turned into this over-complicated necklace and the ropes around his hips that reference the bloody ropes of Ilmater. (Victoria's, and now Marius, god.) And his sword has turned into a cane. (a cane with a blade.)
Tumblr media
Yorgrim as Silas "Shepherd" Morgan
-----LORE-------- From the depths of Yona, a mercenary is invited to participate in an expedition to a land of death and suffering. He accepts stating that he has other business in Barovia and he could be glad to accompany the group under the condition he would work in peace when need it. Of course, he refuses to say the kind of work, you know, "professional privacy policy" and all. But by his reputation... It can't be good... -----DESIGN------- I was going to go with a funeral worker, but the scarf with teeth appeared and it changed the vision. The design takes more inspiration from Shepherd than Yorgrim, with the hunter theme, with the shotgun filled with blue magic and a list of hunts on red clay (that would be broken when the hit is eliminated.)
Tumblr media
Briggsy "The Kutlass" Kratch as Professor Clayton Azran
LORE------- Briggsy may take the role of the professor, but he's not the expedition's leader. He's contracted by the University of Druskenwald to keep an eye on Marius (since the university is suspicious of the holy man). He accepts, without even wondering or caring what Barovia is, only happy to finally obtain a title under his piracy by the lords of Druskenwald. (He's getting paid to be a pirate, oh the dream!) DESIGN------ With his design, he was the last one and I was VERY tired, so... It's something weird? You know, a pirate trying to look like a "noble man". (but he's very much failing, he looks like a maniac I think)
Tumblr media
Jericho Sticks/Virgil as Sarnax of the Edelwood
----LORE----- The cult of Gherix initially refused the university and the idea of letting them explore the runes in their forest. Until they accept but a month away from the expedition which is extremely suspicious. When the group found themselves in the forest, there he is, Jericho, a sacrificial figure of sticks and straw offered by the cult as a guide. (Of course, the poor, only brought to life months ago, strawman is a sacrifice in the name of Gherix that, by burning in Barovia, will give the god control over the whole region. / Indeed, Virgil is now Gherix we get an asshole god, give it up!) -----DESIGN----- Inspired by Wicker Man (giant figures of sticks and straw with animal sacrifices that are burned during Celtic rituals such as the Beltane.) Jericho is turned into a sacrificial figure who will burn when it's necessary by the light that keeps him alive.
Tumblr media
Farryn of the Hartsblight as Kana Soyokaze.
-------LORE------- It isn't clear when or how, but Farryn ends up getting involved with the expedition. As a storm in sea, one day, the swordswoman appears out of the blue stating that she's also trying to find her way into Barovia. The deer refuses to explain her business with the "Divine" of all people, only holding her katana with anger and sadness, but she's clearly not looking to make friends. (She ends up being friends with the whole party.) -------DESIGN----- Based on the Sika deer (a Japanese deer), the design lingers more around the fusion character while keeping Farryn's figure, with the open skirt covered by her leg armour that goes up to her hips and the war paint, fur, and bone that stays in view.

I Am Not Immune To Fandom
Today I released solo gaming support for my survival horror TTRPG Pharmagothica.
Pharmagothica is a d20 game that draws influence from Resident Evil, but dials up the corporate horror and post-apocalypticism slightly. There's also some Parasite Even and Fallout folded in.
And I did not, at any point, intend to write Pharmagothica.
The core book's 140+ pages, it uses a slightly more lush layout style than I like, and both of these things meant it was destined to be a Medium Length Project. I try to avoid those because I am already working on too many of them.
Unfortunately, while writing a different system, I had the thought that its engine would work great for Resident Evil. And at the same time I stumbled onto some designers that were turning 5e inside out trying to fit Resident Evil in it, and these two things alchemically fused in my mind and forced me to Do Design.
I don't really consider myself a part of any fan community. Maybe TTRPGs broadly, but that's all TTRPGs, not a specific one. However, I am extremely vulnerable to cool vibes.
If something has cool vibes, my brain will become lightly obsessed with it, shake it around like a rock in a tumbler, and then spit out a game that looks mostly nothing like it but has a whiff of the same vibes.
This was the case with Pharmagothica, and it will likely continue to happen.
Alas, most stories humans tell are cool, and the rock tumbler is always revved and waiting.

Matt Murdock likes Star Trek: The Next Generation
Stick with me.
Daredevil headcanon: young college!Matt drew some inspiration from Captain Jean-Luc Picard in Star Trek: The Next Generation when it comes to his legal style.
He'd never really been into Star Trek before this. He wasn't alive for the Original series, and never really got around to watching TNG before he lost his sight, and after that it just never really occurred to him to try to 'watch' it. He knew of it of course, but it wasn't until college and Foggy - who was himself a master of fandoms far and wide, Star Trek included - that he was pushed into giving it a chance.
He was reluctant, of course. How much could he actually get out of it? Most shows weren't great at audio descriptions, and there was just so much gd pressure and the weight of all these different Trek shows and history that he found himself digging in his heels.
But Foggy made him deal.
Watch (here Matt raises his brows and Foggy has to sigh and rephrase) just one episode.
Just one.
And if he didn't like it, Foggy will let it go.
Foggy selected...
The Measure of a Man.
In which the Enterprise's captain (played by Patrick Stewart) must defend in court their ship's resident android, Data, and his right to self-determination - his right to choose, his right to life - as a sentient being. The themes and ethics alone were a draw - all of these are questions the legal system did and is still reckoning with, something called out in the scene - and the courtroom setup was just as intriguing to him. But then the episode hit this part.
youtube
This was one of many key moments where Matt began to hone in on his own style - the slow build, the guidance of the witness to build to his point, the escalation of tone, the increased pressure, the cresting of that emotional wave before dropping into something softer. It's a masterfully done piece. On top of that, this scene solidified something he had believed about the courtroom for some time.
"Your honor, a courtroom is a crucible. In it, we burn away irrelevancies until we are left with a pure product - the truth, for all time."
Sound vaguely familiar?
These questions of good and evil, as important as they are, have no place in a court of law. Only the facts matter.
Matt Murdock is a Star Trek fan, thank you for coming to my TED talk.

I finally did it! The Rageons as ghosts are the last ones in my list because Shocktober is over. The Rageons here are ghosts love to haunt haunted houses, where they can party all night and scare the socks out of the living, including humans. They belong to a species of ghosts called phantasms, which are a species of ghosts that are natural-born, which includes poltergeists, shades, wraiths, and spectres. While phantoms and banshees have ghost-like powers like levitation, and phasing through solid matter, they are separate species from ghosts, who remain non-corporeal, can shapeshift, move things more than once with telekinesis, teleport, and they float all the time. They also have the ability to control their chains, which are camouflaged as fashion accessories when not in use, but special chains are used to bind unruly or evil ghosts like handcuffs.
BTW, I used a lot of ghost references for their style, from the Haunted Mansion, A Christmas Carol for the chains, Spectra Vondergeist from Monster High, and Beetlejuice.
Velvet and Veneer are poltergeists who love to haunt human residences for their own entertainment. Velvet doesn't care who she wants to scare, which caused a wedge between the relationship between the two and Rose, but Veneer tends to be considerate of the humans and all living things before haunting anyone to make sure he doesn't scare them to death. They even haunted Floyd’s old pad that he was scared out of it but they later made amends with their old vampire friend.
As the future ghost leader, Cerise is a spectre with a ladylike demeanor and she makes sure that all ghosts must follow the rules that her auncle, Zircon enforces to make sure there is peace and harmony between the living and the dead after they became the leader of the ghosts and ruler of the netherworld, which he reformed the bureaucracy to a proper government alongside is sisters, Cerise and Ruby, and his brothers, Alexandrite and Agate. Cerise looked up to them so much, especially her deceased parents, who sacrificed their souls to save monsters from the hunters that she worked hard to become as great as they are. She, her adoptive cousins and her fiancé, Marvel would come and go as they please in the living world and the netherworld while checking on the deceased souls, called spirits who are living alongside the phantasms.
Marvel is the odd one out among the other poltergeists because of using tactics in scaring humans but it was his calm, collective demeanor that makes him one of the leaders of the group of ghosts, who are collectively his fiancée’s adoptive cousins and friends. His leadership and protectiveness is from the burden of caring for his siblings, Velvet and Veneer, and he makes sure he never let them fall on the reckless cloud.
Lux is the enby wraith who prefers solving problems, working on technology, and is known for being the brains of the group, but they doesn't have one since they're immortal and they look undead. They are also known to read minds and looking at the true faces of anyone they look at so everybody had to watch what they're thinking or Lux would figure it out. It isn't so bad because they can help give solutions on the problems that anybody is thinking about.
Gloss is a poltergeist with flamboyant ideas to scare the humans out of their daylights but he has a soft side for Marvel, whom he tried to help solve his inner turmoil alongside Lux. He is also in love with Marvel’s brother, Veneer, who later became his boyfriend.
Silks is a shy shade, who would teleport or turn invisible when she gets flustered or overwhelmed. Despite lacking confidence, she is emotionally intelligent, typically shows compassion for everyone, corrects Cerise whenever she's out of character and talks sense into her friends when there are disagreements among them, which comes in handy when she can telepathically feel emotions around her.
The ghostly fashion diva, Cashmere knows how to make any ghost look good and become their better selves with fashion and creativity. She would uses her ability to change anything and everything to make fashions for her ghoulish friends, though she would prefer to create the outfits and accessories with her telekinesis. She is in a relationship with Dazzler, a grim reaper-in training.
Glimmer and Shimmer are a pair of spectral twins whose style mismatch their personality. Glimmer, the older twin wears devilish colors but she is calm and cool-headed, while Shimmer, who is the younger twin in angelic palette, is hyperactive and optimistic. Both twins know how to balance each other and combine their strengths to help their friends in need.
Shocktober is finally at its end so see ya!

Since Halloween is almost here, let me share you guys my favorite indie horror games of 2024:
(they are equally great)
1. Buckshot Roulette - multiplayer is out now! The intro is such a banger and the gameplay is wild! I also like the epilogue of the game where you get to see the blue sky. That confirms that the game is set during the modern era.
2. That's Not My Neighbor - obviously lol. When the campaign mode got released, it felt underwhelming how the neighbors are all blank slates, but at least I get to see that Afton has been confirmed being one of the main villains of the game. (Possibly Keppler and the rest of DDD organization or even the Entity)
3. Clickolding - this game...weird but somehow I find it...fascinating? Because in this game, all you do is to click on this little device while a strange looking man watching you do it. He even may tell you strange remarks and suggestive innuendos. You guys can check it out and see for yourself.
4. Mouthwashing - I've watched both ManlyBadassHero and John Wolfe played it and I have to agree with them that it's one of the very first game who has done psychological horror right. I haven't made any Fanart of it because it only makes me remember how sad the story is but who knows? Maybe I can make a good ending for the main character.
5. Voyager 19 - this game reminds me of Iron Lung but you are literally exploring alone in the space, looking for a habitable planet. The ending blows my mind.
6. Don't Let Her In - this game has the same style as Faith: The Unholy Trinity. It gives me the feeling of anxiety where you play as a kid and someone is attempting to get in.
7. No, I'm not a Human - this game is uniquely made! I love the uncanny valley art style on this and the story is also good.
8. Home Safety Hotline - This game is also unique. It will give you both pressure and anxiety once you take calls and then make sure to give the caller the correct information. It relates to me so much lol
9. Crow Country - I love the PS1 genre here. It gives me both Final Fantasy/Resident Evil vibes.
Edited:
10. Crowded. Followed.
11. Fear of Spotlight
12. Bad Parenting
So far, that's all I got. How about you guys? Do you have any indie horror games you wanna share? 🙂

My Favorite Games I Played in 2023
(with no regard to when they came out. I don’t care. I played them this year)
Tumblr media
Tears of the Kingdom
Breath of the Wild is my favorite game. Period. All time. And while Tears of the Kingdom didn’t dethrone it, it’s largely more of that same game I love so damn much. I don’t think any open world game has crafted a world I just love running around and doing whatever I want as much as these. It’s all so exactly my shit.
Tumblr media
Bomb Rush Cyberfunk
This game filled a Jet Set Radio Future shaped hole I didn’t realize was in my heart. It’s kind of funny that Sega announced a new JSR game after an indie dev put out the best one. Great music, great throwback art-style, and simple gameplay that just hooked me in. Skating around the city hunting for secrets and stringing together combos is so damned fun. It’s just fun.
Tumblr media
Slay the Princess
You’re on a path in the woods. And at the end of that path is a cabin. And in the basement of that cabin is the best visual novel I’ve ever played. It’s just excellent on every front: gorgeous hand-drawn art, a perfectly moody soundtrack, and a great script delivered with excellent performances. Slay the Princess is brutal, creepy, surprising, and sweet. It is, after all, a love story.
Tumblr media
Tunic
If you somehow haven’t played it yet (as I hadn’t) Tunic is 2D Zelda crossed with a dash of Dark Souls and a whole lot of mystery. Despite an unassuming start, Tunic surprised me over and over. I’ve never seen a game handle information about itself like Tunic does. When I play through it a second time it will, it must, be a completely different experience because I know the game now. That’s kind of true about any game, but it’s especially true here.
Tumblr media
Signalis
I don’t like horror. Movies, shows, games, whatever. I’m a big giant baby who doesn’t like being scared. And I absolutely loved Signalis. It’s Resident Evil gameplay crossed with Silent Hill style but then it’s set in space and 90% of the characters are android women. I heard a lot of strong recommendations, and decided to give it a shot. I set the combat to casual (and turned the brightness up a little after the first time an enemy screamed and surprised me from a dark corner) and got through. Signalis is dense with themes and imagery. The first thing I did after beating the game was watch multiple video essays discussing the story, and disagree with them. I’m gonna be thinking about it for a long time.

Just noticed we weren't giving enough attention to Finfolk Wally'(cause Howdy is just so fkabfoenodj) so is there any fun facts you can share about Finfolk Wally?
You are so right, I have not been giving the star of the island any attention at all! Even though I still think Howdy is a very handsome dude-
It is no secret at all the most if not ALL finfolk are vain with their looks. This is based on the lore surrounding the reason they have such an obsession with marrying humans.
Wally is especially careful with styling his hair and picking the best outfit each day to match. Sure, he might wear the same suit a lot or just the same suit in another color, but sometimes he likes to mix things up and wear his down. It's something between being wavy and curly. Usually he lets Julie style it if it's down since she's used to it from her job on the mainland. He even wears seashells and other ocean-themed accessories in it!
Being vain will of course mean he wears makeup (surprisingly). Usually it's just eyeliner and light eye shadow though to really make his eyes stand out.
However...
May whatever god you pray to save you if you so much as ruin his hair. You will NOT come out of that unscathed. Even Sally thinks Wally tends to go too far when he's angered at someone. Though she can't say much considering she's the same way if you ruin her claws nails.
Obviously he's got a giant ego to match. If you really want to hurt him, aim for his ego. But then again, that will probably land you 6 feet under.
He isn't the violent type, much. It's just finfolk nature when it comes down to it. Most finfolk are even considered evil at birth when compared to other creatures. The residents of Home might be a bit different from the rest though. They can be truly kind...only to each other or anyone else that lives on the island. Just about everyone else on the outside are given the fake smiles and double-edged kindness.
Wally of course is second to the most "kindest" of them all. Poppy being the first and genuinely kindest.
When on mainland, he'll put up a friendly and welcoming 'can-do' attitude for others when really he just wants to punt whichever puppet dares to step in front of him. Usually if he is so well disguised not even other finfolk know it's him Wally will really let his aggressive nature take over. But that's wishful thinking. He's usually stuck with being an on-off art teacher for college and elementary students (he hates rowdy teens with a burning passion). Usually seeing the adorable children in a classroom is what brings out a rare calmness in him. He took note that children have the same effect on Howdy. Perhaps he wanted to be a father too.
He hopes to be a dad one day, but for now, seeing kids be happy to go wild with paint is all he needs.
When Wally returns to Home he always spills the tea while sipping literal tea. He likes his wine, but tea is the most beloved by him. Sometimes Wally will even add in drops of a potion that he and Howdy had brewed together. It's usually stress relief or magical enhancers.
It's when he meets you on the mainland does the thought of kids come up again. He rarely ever has a tolerance to puppets outside of Home, but you? How could he ever pass up the chance to get the perfect life? No longer does he have a fake smile around others, and no longer is he as aggressive as he was before. It's like what happened to Eddie when he met Frank. He loves you so much it hurts. He has to bring you back with him no matter what.
Home thinks it's a great idea.

I remember you mentioned Dust playing Skyrim and the Star Sanses messing with him by sending the Dark Brotherhood "we know" note, so I was wondering something else
Do they play any other video games? Do they have a favorite game, and are there any games they don't like?
Oh god HAHA yeah Dust got sent that because Dream caught him snooping on his Myriad (UTVM Social Media) under a burner account.
The guys have a couple group games, but they sometimes have to get broken up if it's one of the Mario ones.
Killer likes to play FPS games. He's your COD player, but also the more recent Resident Evils as well. He likes horror games. Dust likes games like Skyrim. Easy to get into the immersion, lots of options for how to play, easy to mod, etc. Low stakes most of the time, too. He plays just about anything, but he likes RPGs in a similar vein. Axe likes simpler games to play. Things he doesn't have to keep track of a lot. Low stakes, easy games that aren't terribly stressful and have simple mechanics. He likes a lot of retro games. Cross likes to play strategy games. He's scary good at them and no one likes to play any form of video game with him where he can plan ahead. He also has a preference for fighting games, and is the Smash champ of the castle. Baggs also likes strat games and puzzle games. His Tetris score is absolutely insane, and he entertains Candy Crush every now and again if he has time between projects, or is waiting on something. If he's rested enough, he's scary at fighting games, too, and the only one who has even come close to Cross' record. If he put any amount of effort into practicing, he'd hold the title. Nightmare isn't one much for video games, but he likes the ones that tell a good story. He can follow a complicated plot, but if the story gets muddled by too much action, he loses interest. He's the one who prefers handheld consoles the most.
As for the others...
Dream is big on RPGs. He likes ones that let you influence the outcome of stories, where you can change things for the better. Don't let him fool you, though - he's a crackshot at FPS games. Ink likes games that can keep his attention. It can't be too repetitive or dull - He's great with MMOs and other online arena-style games. He's a good shot, too, but not to the near-sniper level that Dream is Blue doesn't have a lot of time for video games, but likes JRPGs. He's played a few of the more obscure and older titles - newer ones just don't have the oomph that he likes.

hi! random question, maybe, but as someone who never played any of The Evil Within, would you like to tell me about why you love those games? I keep seeing these gorgeous gifsets and art you reblog, and I know a little about the plot, but I'd love to hear more about these games from a fan. I'm not good at actually playing video games, but I love good game design and cool lore and The Evil Within seems to have both
The Evil Within is a third person survival horror game by Tango Gameworks, a company founded by Shinji Mikami, who made the first few Resident Evil games. The first game has this dirty, grimy vibe that I love - I'd say it's visually similar to Silent Hill in a lot of ways, and similar to Resident Evil in others. It isn't for everyone, it definitely got a lot of criticism when it came out, but I absolutely adore it. It's psychological, it has fun characters and a really great spooky atmosphere. I vastly prefer the first game over the second - I think TEW2 has its perks but just isn't a good sequel. A lot of people prefer 2 though, so it just depends on what you're into. Personally, I think 2 is just too "clean-" it isn't grimy like the first, and it's open world makes it less scary in my opinion. I like that the first game is more claustrophobic, and in my opinion the sequel the strongest when it takes you out of the open world setting and puts you in unavoidable peril, like the first game did basically the whole time.
I'm really into horror that leans a lot into mystery and psychological aspects, and I have to admit I'm especially a sucker for stuff involving detectives - it's part of why I love Saw so much. The first game has this really unsettling atmosphere and you can never quite tell what time period it even takes place in - the main characters are dressed kind of old fashioned and the world is full of dated architecture and old technology. The environments shift a lot which keeps you on your toes. There's also this film-style letterboxing that a lot of people hated but I unapologetically love - it makes it very cinematic. They added the option later to turn it off but I'll always be a defender of that stylistic choice.
Tumblr media
The actual story consists of some detectives being called to a crime scene at a mental hospital - and I will mention that this game definitely falls into some pretty tired "mental institution scary" stereotypes at a few points - and I really don't want to give too much away about what happens, but there's a lot to be figured out along the way. You play Sebastian Castellanos, and are joined by Joseph Oda and Juli Kidman. I don't want to give too much away here, but things get wacky in a really fun way. You find out more about your fellow detectives and Sebastian's backstory, as well as what type of evil you're dealing with. There's tons of really fun and scary enemy designs, although the standard zombie-like enemies you encounter most often aren't super exciting in my opinion.
Tumblr media
If you aren't super into playing video games there's definitely walkthroughs on YouTube that you can watch, or you can just watch the cutscenes - there's a few "movie" compilations as well. I feel like you miss a little bit with those since there's bits of story you can find during gameplay, journal entries and such but it's better than nothing. I sometimes feel like just watching the cutscenes and sitting on the couch with a nice hot drink like I'm watching a horror movie. I highly recommend experiencing it in one way or another, especially since we're coming up on Halloween.

• Rating RE characters’ designs •
Claire Redfield
Tumblr media
Desclaimer: these are my personal opinions based on how much I like the outfit/model.
(Claire has my favourite style so these ratings will be pretty high lol)
——————————————————————————
Resident Evil 2 (1998)
Tumblr media
9/10 I love this outfit, the turtleneck really ties in the look together. Cute design overall.
Resident Evil Code Veronica (2000)
Tumblr media
9/10 This is my favourite outfit! Love the choker, the jeans, and the cropped leather vest. Her in game face model is also very pretty. Can’t wait to see what they do with her in a future CV remake.
Resident Evil The Darkside Chronicles (2009)
Tumblr media
10/10 An absolutely slay, especially the RE2 version. I love the face, the booty shorts, the cowboy boots(!!!). Perhaps, also my favourite outfit of hers. CV looks just like in the og game but with better graphics.
Resident Evil Revelations 2 (2015)
Tumblr media
6.5/10 I’m sorry, she’s not it for me. I don’t really dig her face and the blazer. She’s my least favourite version of Claire. The boots are nice though, and so is the ponytail.
Resident Evil 2 (2019)
Tumblr media
8.5/10 Very cute! Not much going on with her outfit, but I love me a biker jacket. Not a fan of the necklace, it’s giving 2014 boho. This outfit is not giving ‘90s but I think she looks good overall. Unpopular, but I like brown hair Claire.
RE 2 Alternative outfit: original
Tumblr media
8/10 I wish they kept the gloves and the turtleneck. The boots are really cool, I prefer these to the original brown ones. Still, a solid look for Claire!
RE2 Alternative Outfit: Elza Walker
Tumblr media
10/10 She looks great, point blank. Love all the details.
RE 2 Alternative Outfit: Noir
Tumblr media
9.5 maybe 10/10 Another slay, maybe we could’ve done without the fedora but I love this nonetheless. The stiletto heels omg.
RE2 Alternative Outfit: Military
Tumblr media
7/10 I don’t really like what’s going on here, especially the bandana. Not bad, but she has way better fits.

my most unpopular resident evil opinion is that RE6 was a great game
i'm not kidding. i genuinely enjoyed playing it (still have to finish Ada's campaign). i know it leaned far more action-centered than horror-centered but I ADORED that they let a game focus more on the characters themselves and their motivations/current struggles. Piers and Jake were solely in 6 and I feel like I know them as well as I know Chris, Jill or Leon.
There are things I don't love about it ofc (the inventory system annoyed me and some of the boss fights were outrageously difficult for no reason, specifically Haos) but I really loved the game overall. It's not easy to split a game into multiple POVs where it still cohesively makes sense but I feel like they actually pulled it off pretty well.
Sure some of the dialogue and writing could have been better. But the voice acting was really good all around (Matt Mercer my beloved).
I'm also curious what they'll do as far as RE9 when looking at 6. We obviously saw Chris in 7 & 8, have some idea of what he's up to and that the BSAA is starting to fall apart. But I want to know more about what the current climate is for the other protags. I know we have the epilogues, but those only show the immediate future, not like present-day post-RE8. What is Sherry doing? Is Leon still working for the DSO? Did the DSO dissolve? What was the aftermath of losing Benford and Simmons? Did Leon just end up getting handed off to being a government dog in another new BOW department?
Also, what about Jake? Obviously Piers is dead in canon (not in my heart) and I personally think Helena's story was pretty well-done to fit into the scope of just 6. You could argue that Jake was also written to fit just 6's scope, but come on. COME ON. You have Wesker's son, who has special viral antibodies bc he's Wesker's son, and you're not gonna play with that???
Listen all I'm saying is I would not be mad if RE9 borrows the multiple-protagonist multiple-campaign style from 6 (yes 2 has it but that's only two protags not four) to let us see more of a wider picture. And I'm also saying I will [REDACTED] Capcom if they bring Wesker back in RE9 and do not bring Jake back at all

GIANT GORG BLU-RAY SUBTITLES
Tumblr media
Recently, this wonderful 80s anime received a Blu-Ray HD release in Japan, but there are no English subtitles available for it. So I took it upon myself to rip the English DVD subtitles for Giant Gorg, run them through OCR transcription, fix line by line machine transcription mistakes, and re-time the whole thing to sync to the Blu-Ray rips online! To do that for 26 episodes was a big, often boring task, but if it makes anyone else watch and enjoy this series as much as I did, it's worth it, to me. Here's the link! Click on Keep Reading below if you wanna know more about this series before jumping in:
Giant Gorg was directed by the legendary Yoshikazu Yasuhiko, known as the character designer of the original Mobile Suit Gundam and Dirty Pair, and the director of the recent Gundam movie, Cucuruz Doan's Island, plus the creator of several manga, anime and film works like Gundam: The Origin, Arion, Jesus, Venus Wars, and many others.
Giant Gorg is kind of a precious baby of his that unfortunately never took off in popularity the way it deserved to. It's a wonderful series in the style of old adventure serials like Johnny Quest, about a boy named Yuu Tagami who, through a series of events, ends up joining/founding an exploration group to research the mysterious tropical island of New Austral, that is also on the aim of an evil corporation called GAIL, who'll do whatever it takes to claim the island and its secrets its exclusive property.
Tumblr media
Yuu ends up finding and seemingly befriending a mysterious, ancient, and extremely powerful golem residing in the island, the titular GIANT GORG, deepening the mysteries of the land. The expedition group juggles surviving the island's natural and less-than-natural perils, managing internal conflicts, scraping by GAIL's assaults and dealing with other parties interested in the island for themselves. Plus, they now have to figure out just what the Giant Gorg is, if it can be relied on, and what is its intent. Whether this incredible being really is a Messenger of the Gods, some cataclysmic ancient weapon, or something else entirely. If I had to reduce it to something, it's old adventure serials mixed in with Mobile Suit Gundam and the Iron Giant. That's kind of what Giant Gorg is. The expedition group has a similar feeling to a much more scaled down White Base in Gundam, a group of people mostly barely related to one another forced into becoming a found family, relying on each other and surviving the strikes of a much bigger military force that's after them, with their own bureaucratic conflicts and machineries. Giant Gorg even has its own Char, in the form of Rod Balboa, a hotshot heir of GAIL that has been given control of its New Austral initiative. He's voiced by the same actor and everything!
Tumblr media
What's truly great about GIANT GORG is how it creates a real, powerful sense of danger as stakes change and things escalate, both materially and emotionally. Characters feel like truly strong individuals that develop and peel out layers of complexity as the series goes on, and it tests your faith heavily in who they are and whether they'll do the right thing for themselves and the people they care for. There's such a great mix of excitement, sentimentalism, danger, discomfort, comedy, that makes this series feel like a truly all-encompassing and fullfilled Adventure.
Tumblr media
So yeah, and the Blu-Ray looks fantastic, especially as someone who had to watch it originally in dim, blurry 420p resolution. So please give it a try!

Mirror of Darkness
In the heart of ancient Egypt, during the time of the pharaohs, there existed a mirror of unparalleled beauty and mystery. Crafted by the hands of the great Pharaoh Akenaten himself, it was meant to be a gift for his beloved Queen Nefertiti. Little did he know that this mirror would hold a power beyond his wildest imagination.
Tumblr media
The mirror, a thing of beauty, was made of polished silver and on its bottom frame it had a vision of a woman for the handle . It was said to reflect not just one's physical appearance, but also one's true nature and intentions. However, the mirror's true curse was revealed when it showed the pharaoh that his queen was committing infidelity with his brother.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In a fit of rage and betrayal, the pharaoh cursed the mirror, condemning it to be corrupted by darkness. From that day forward, the mirror was no longer a thing of beauty, but a vessel to corrupt the hearts of the ones who used it.
The mirror, now a thing of darkness and despair, was hidden away in the deepest, darkest corners of the pharaoh's palace. But, as with all cursed objects, it could not be contained forever.  Centuries have passed, and the mirror has found its way out of the palace and into the world.
The mirror of darkness, cursed by the ancient pharaoh, had been passed down through the ages, each new owner unaware of the evil that resided within. As the years went by, the mirror's style changed to fit in with the times, but its true nature remained the same.
During the medieval period, the mirror was owned by Queen Angelica who used it to admire her beauty. However, the mirror showed her a new true self, a cruel and selfish woman, who cared only for her own desires. The mirror's curse began to take hold, and the queen became more and more tyrannical. She turned dark and evil. She murdered her husband the king and then made sure that the knights fell under her rule. Her people of her kingdom not only became more afraid of her but fell into her servitude.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In the 1950s, the mirror was owned by a movie actress Grace Mitchell. She always played bit parts especially the girl next door and other innocent roles. One day she used a compact mirror to primp and preen before the cameras. The mirror showed her the vanity and superficiality that lay beneath her innocent exterior. Grace became more and more self-absorbed, until she was shunned by her peers. She became more conceited and a diva on the set. She then often slept with the producers and directors of different movies so she could become the star she deserved to be.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And now, the mirror has found its way to the current day, where it has been purchased by a young bride's parents as an early wedding gift. The bride,Crystal, unaware of the mirror's curse, uses it to admire her own beauty on the morning of her wedding day. But the mirror reveals the darkness in her own heart, and she is unable to resist the temptation. She then goes to the hotel to search out the best man Roger. She enters the hotel room where he was staying and puts on her best lingerie. When Rodger enters she seduces him and has sex with him on the bed. Crystal leaves her groom at the altar and then decides to move to Vegas. In Vegas she becomes an escort and has sex with many men and even some women.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Nobody knows where her mirror went after that day. However it will appear at some point and when it does it will corrupt again.
