god if only bokura no kiseki was popular...the discourse that would come out regarding some certain characters would be such a glorious nightmare.
nanaura akira / cotton orway? self-sabotaging shithead.
eugene moswick / zeze ryou? he is babygirl, and yes, he very much knowingly killed them all.
nishina mizuki / lucas erlanger? dear lord, gaslight gatekeep girlboss AND mansplain, manipulate, malewife manwhore manslaughter AT THE SAME TIME.

Some manga I read this year
Really fun reading in a shitty year of my life. Monster and kaze hikaru are rereads(read kaze hikaru atleast 4 times lol). Kaze hikaru single handedly convinced me to watch Japanese period drama movies and it was blast. Kaze hikaru is shinsengumi bakumatsu era story centred around a girl main character. A beautiful one with slice of life story spun around historical facts that makes reading very engaging.
Monster turned out to be so much fun I came back to being the monster addict I was in 2017. Altho my reading comprehension hasn't been any better since but wow what a thought provoking series. Although the grand scheme of things like Nina and Tenma cud have been more fleshed out towards the end? I just love the microcosm of the series is built around loving and sharing fun meals and like life is a concoction of meals we had together. It's definitely a series that is worth many reads and I wasn't wrong falling in love with it back then.
Tumblr media
Pet shop of horrors is another gem.
A shady or not so shady pet shop selling people's dreams(?). I'm in love with count D btw.
Orcot × D felt like eroica's Dorian × Klaus with the will they won't they dynamics.
Tumblr media
Maison ikoku is probably rumiko's tightest story with plot progression because it's important to progress the love story here. A young widow moving on in life and leading an independent life and finding love again. You get a good feel of 70s 80s Japan, the slice of life and takahashi's slap stick comedy all in one good package.
Star clock liddell.
I honestly don't knw what to Say abt this series lmao
If you are interested in Rich conversations of people talk abt metaphysics and dream psychology then this is your read. The way the story talks abt longing and broaches the dissociation of one's own psyche and somehow ties into a place of longing and belonging...idk what else to say this is so weird at the same time a good series with stellar art. This read felt like I'm drifting to dreams tht aren't morbidly scary but just unsettling and you long for a curiosity and unknown sense of belonging.
Gabai. Coming of age story set in post war Japan, abt a boy who came to saga to live with his grandmother cuz his mom in Hiroshima can't make ends meet to raise two kids.
Oftentimes phrase of money isn't everything is just hell no poverty sucks...but the story gives a balance to these two sides of it with money isn't everything when you live in a community that doesn't look down on the poor and want to exploit and hoard wealth but sharing during difficult times as neighbors, friends, teachers at school should see it as a part of their responsibility and consious to help one another. The series brought back lots of my own granny memories and the so called simple times when everyone mostly cared for one another. Raising kids is not an isolated work of parents..10/10 and honestly I feel like slice of life stories that don't have this depth and angle are just pointless at times. Giving nuance with time place and lifestyle makes so much difference.

Bokura no kiseki.
Well it's probably the best reincarnations au you will ever read. A series that makes you care abt so many characters and unearthing the past memories of a tragedy and to try co existing in the present world. It's really philosophical at places, about power money and equality. You don't knw what you are in for till you keep reading it and a lot of people keep masking and faking identity so the reincarnation mystery is very fun into this weird cat and mouse games.
Nonnonba.
I wanted to read Shigeru mizuki manga and so I thought why not a shorter one. His depiction of yokai as human emotions manifestations, and tapping into fear, insecurity, traditional folklore, and myths and misconceptions but not dismissive of a culture is very important in his stories. His pencil art detailing is what I feel like digital art might not be able to give...if that makes sense.
Tumblr media
Dear Gene.
Yaoi manga with beautiful art. Historical and slice of life and coming of age. I like how it uses queerness as growing up experiences too, the world outside is bigger and more accepting while connecting your roots. A great read.
Tumblr media
Sakura namiki.
The S class Yuri classic. The beautiful panelling, with back and forth tennis match between two girls and their bond and emotions flowing so seamlessly between their exchange.
Tumblr media
How do we do relationship.
Probably the best manga of romance drama that's not just creating drama but meaningful discussion on navigating as a couple, friends and sexual relationships especially as lesbians in a hetero spaces.

So @momtaku tagged me in a ‘list your 5 fave anime characters’ meme, which promptly made me wonder: do I even have 5 fave anime characters?? The truth is that I mostly read manga, and anime is not my favourite medium. As such, this meme will be an exciting journey of self-discovery
Rules: list your top 5 favorite anime characters and tag 10 people.
1. The first one to pop into my head was Touya Akira from Hikaru no Go
Tumblr media
Again with the caveat that I prefer him, and everything always, in the manga. But I do remember enjoying the anime! (Why does Touya have green hair in it? No one knows)
2. Edward Elric from Fullmetal Alchemist is an obvious choice
Tumblr media
(Don’t ask me in which anime I like him better. Both! Both. But mostly the manga, lol.)
3. Mikasa from Attack on Titan. This is tricksy, because I like the SnK anime for the music and the epicness, but the characters didn’t do much for me. But surely loving Mikasa on the strength of the manga (I know, I know, broken record here) means she must make the list!
Tumblr media
4. Aion from Chrno Crusade
Tumblr media
Hello, obscure anime nobody but me probably knows! But it was the first anime I watched, like, outside of my childhood, and the main villain made an impression. So very villainous.
5. Terry from Candy Candy
Tumblr media
Yes, we’re scraping the bottom of the barrel here!!! This was the first anime I watched ever, and Terry was baby’s first anime crush. (I don’t even know how old this anime is. Certainly way older than I am.)
Puzzling this out has sapped my brain powers, haha, so no clue whom to tag. Consider yourself tagged, whoever wants to do it!

I caved in, in the last few days, and took a look through the untranslated chapters of Bokura no Kiseki, up to chapter 119.
My theory is basically confirmed?! Like it's all but said in chapter 119 with the first part being validated and the second very strongly suggested.
I just reread the post I wrote about it and I was trying so hard to not sound like I was too invested because I was afraid of being completly wrong and sounding like an idiot, lol. But I really loved the idea and I'm so very happy at this reveal!
Also omg what even is up with Kikuchi?! I was intrigued about the shady parts around him but I also felt like I would have been a bit disappointed if it had led to his past life being the bastard sister, because we never saw his face or anything about him. I guess it would have felt a bit like a cop-out in a way, because of a lack of hints for the readers?
And now the fact that his face was never shown is actually a plot point!! Damnit, Kumeta always manage to blow my mind in some way.

Rereading Bokura No Kiseki and I see Hino is listed as Ashley instead of Nishina (who was at this time claiming to be Ashley)
Hino is a servant but did he ever get a name? Why isn't Nishina listed at all?

Please recommend me some manga :") Im runnin low on mangas to read
i’m... actually one of the worst people to ask because aside from the ones i’m very obvious about on here, i don’t even know recent works... i’ll just make a list of what i like in general and hopefully you’ll be able to pick out some that you haven’t already read. (no spoilers)
current:
boku no hero academia
i’m not adding an explanation for this like if you don’t already know at this point why are you even following me
mob psycho 100
ditto
birdmen
really fucking funny i love eishi so much i love kamoda and i love all the kids they’re such a good group i need to make a separate post for this at some point i swear to god just read this series please they’re really good kids and the concept is interesting + the balance of humor suspense is KILLIN IT. there’s other good things about this series but the characters and the way they’re portrayed grabbed me by the heart and fucking pulled my dudes, they’re fucking hilarious and i love them sm. sidenote: eishi is such a funny fuck i don’t know if i’m projecting onto him if i want to protect him if i want to mock him or what, he’s such. god. Edge(?) Done Right when dealing with teenaged children, this series is
the promised neverland
(clickbait voice) three super smart kids discover a conspiracy, you’ll never guess what happens next... all right so i always appreciate intelligent (emotional/world/knowledge what have you) protagonists and this is right up my alley with the main kids being Ridiculously Smart but also having their own individualized quirks that balance the group; they trust each other/care a lot about each other and their family and as a whole are Good Kids Doin Their Best despite. y’know. conspiracy
bokura no kiseki
the last time i reread this was ~two years ago at this point but i’ve reread this series as a whole over 7 times and have been following it practically since publication like a decade ago. i got this.
in general reincarnation w/ memories was always an interesting trope i liked seeing explored but this one’s got Magic and the main character is a princess trying to figure out what-the-fuck happened to kill an entire kingdom and even though he’s a teenaged boy he also realizes that this is the Present and doesn’t try to (blatantly) powertrip, he’s got his moral code, in general a lot of these characters are sharp as a tack and at a young age the cloak and dagger going on in a civilian modern-day school amongst a bunch of would-be teenagers keeping a massive secret was Awesome and at an older age i still think it’s Awesome. just read it
others (either completed, hiatus, or i haven’t been keeping up with):
NG Life was a favorite of mine when I was younger, and I like Akatsuki no Yona from the same author as well.
FMA was and remains as one of the best I’ve ever read?? definitely best shounen i’ve read. absolutely
d. gray man was a favorite even though i haven’t read it in about uuuuh holy shit over a decade
skip beat is good. more iffy about certain aspects of it now that i’m older but kyoko is Ultimate Good
soul eater was something! admittedly got into it through the anime first, wasn’t as impressed with the manga or the direction the plot took, though i was endeared to the characters. i think i’m just a studio bones fan.
kurenai ouji…. i can’t remember this one much either it’s been several years but i thought it was very cute
i’m closing this with PLEASE READ BIRDMEN!!!! PLEASE!!!!! and bokura no kiseki bUT READ BIRDMEN AnD TALK TO ME ABOUT THEM!!! ABOUT THESE ADORABLE DORKY KIDS THAT DON’T KNOW WHAT TO DO WITH THEMSELVES PLEASE REA

Pet Favourite book? onceabluemoonwrites mentioned you in a post “Rules: 1. Post the rules 2. Answer the questions given to you by the...”
What makes you ship something? … , @metronomeihear @@otaku-alert , @ adelmortescryche , @mermbernation , @curiousbecuriousblueram, @ms-erie…
Rules:
1. Post the rules 2. Answer the questions given to you by the tagger 3. Write 11 questions of your own 4. And tag 11 people
I was tagged by @onceabluemoonwrites, obviously. *wry grin*
Ok, here we go.
1. What is your second favourite fandom?
Hm. Seeing as KHR and YOI can both count as primary fandoms at this point... jeez, this is a tough question. In terms of writing, I have probably written the most for Harry Potter, Inuyasha or Naruto, after these two. Not counting crossovers, which are honestly the majority of what I write outside of KHR and YOI specifically. In terms of reading.... I tend to go back the most often to Final Fantasy VII and Fate Stay Night, outside of the series I actually write fic for.
2. Any lesser known shows/manga/anime/books everybody needs to know about?
Aaaaaaah, uh. Ok, let me think. Until you called Nurarihyon no Mago a lesser known show, I didn’t realize that not too many people already knew about it, so definitely that one!
Barakamon - it’s slice of life and honestly one of the most feel good shows I have ever seen.
Donten ni Warau - it’s pretty tough to describe this one? Period/Fantasy/Supernatural, with lots of family feels and a whole lot more action. As a bonus, the manga has absolutely stunning art.
And a manga rec for anyone who enjoys reincarnation and urban fantasy with a heavy dose of action and mystery... of a sort. Bokura no Kiseki.
3. Ghibli or Disney?
Another tough one, but I’d have to go with Disney. No matter how much I love Hayao Miyazaki’s work.
4. Why Ghibli/Disney?
Mostly because I grew up with Disney. Ghibli is what I discovered as a teenager. They’re both close to my heart, but for completely different reasons.
5. Favorite flower?
I’ve never thought too deeply about this. Lilies, I suppose, I love the way they smell. Roses or orchids for pure aesthetics, though.
6. What makes you ship something?
Literally just the possibility of an interesting dynamic! Emphatic character interaction of any kind in canon probably helps, though. I’m very flexible with the concept of shipping, and have very few OTPs and even fewer NOTPs. The few ironclad OTPs I do have tend to be all consuming, sweeping romances, amusingly enough. With good characterization and reasoning behind the characters getting together, either canonically or in-fic.
7. Or WHO makes you ship things?
Any decent artist or writer. *smirks* I just need good plot and I’m liable to be swayed.
8. Favorite book?
...how exactly am I supposed to answer this one. I can’t even give the name of a book I’ve reread more than once, I’ve done that with several series. Let’s go with the book I’ve read most recently, instead. Ancillary Justice by Ann Leckie. Yes, yes, old book, what can you do. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
9. Most Annoying Sibling Award?
Bzzt, sorry, no answer here. I’m an only child. *grins*
10. Wooden floors vs. linoleum.
Er. Wood over linoleum, any day, but can I say carpet over wood? Or maybe a mix of both. I love me my carpeted floors.
11. Who are you in the Cinnamon roll meme?
...I suspect I’m closest to “looks like they could kill you but is actually a cinnamon roll”. I have been called standoffish and hard to approach or talk to before? Which confuses me, big time, because I either don’t notice people or I assume that they... don’t want to talk to me...
As for questions to add to this...
1. What’s the fandom you return to the most often, no matter what?
2. Most preferred genre in media?
3. What’s most likely to turn you off of a ship - canonically or in fandom.
4. Your favorite game? Of any kind. (athletics, board games, video games, etc.)
5. Pet peeve in any creative medium.
6. If there was one thing you could change about your favorite series, what would it be?
7. What’s most likely to get you hooked to a fandom? (source material/ the fics/ the people in it/ etc)
8. Favorite genre of music - or band/singer!
9. Are you into cosplaying? Or attending cons?
10. If you had a superpower, what would it be?
11. Dream holiday destination. Could be a real place or something fictional.
I haven’t actually been on Tumblr for too long, so I have no clue whom all to tag, and even if all of you enjoy questions/tags of this kind! But, er. Here. Feel free to ignore this if you’re not interested, or don’t have the time: @ayahne, @aerialflight, @voxofthevoid, @otaku-alert, @ladyhallen, @insanescriptist, @boycottromance, @tempestsave, @mysecretfanmoments, @thefringeperson, @sparklecryptid.... and @onceabluemoonwrites  (yes, im tagging you back!)

the dnd nerd in me always gets a little giddy whenever i think of the fact that the typical spellcasting in bokura no kiseki's magic system requires vocal, somatic, and material components
it's pretty simple and typical, but it makes sense and is no less interesting, especially in context of several plot points, and it just adds so much to the way magic is portrayed
i love this manga so much
