So, I finally got to writing out some probably shitty HCs for that hero AU. I hope these are enjoyable!

- Vinnie has gecko-based powers; sticky fingers and feet, nocturnal vision, lower body temperature, etc. He got these abilities when he was a child and got a parasite by drinking out of a puddle. Even after years of tests, there's no sure answer as to why his body reacted this way, or as to why none of the symptoms went away after said parasite was removed. 

- Sunil's powers are mostly just his magic tricks like disappearing and reappearing, short distance teleportation, cool shit like that. He originally wanted to use his skills for entertainment but used them for heroics when he finally realized that he had the potential. He also has small premonitions that appear at random and leave him drained, paranoid and confused, because they rarely give him any solid warnings. These cause him to have major migraines and nausea. 

- They first met while both chasing the same villain(Pepper lmao), who ended up escaping due to Vinnie's impulsiveness. Sunil originally rejected the idea of partnering with Vinnie until Russell convinced him that their strengths and weaknesses would likely balance out and be beneficial

- Related to the last HC, Russell and Sunil work together. Russell is kind of like a manager for him who keeps tabs on stuff. 

- Vinnie is more of an impulsive, physical fighter, where Sunil is more careful and uses more mental tactics. Depending on the situation, this combination is either amazing or horrible 

- Vinnie wanted a super cool alias, but no matter how hard he tried to introduce new names, people just kept calling him “that one lizard dude.” That was until some kid online referred to him as Repto-Guy, and it stuck. Not as cool as Vinnie hoped for, but better than “oh, that guy”. 

- Sunil's hero name is Blue Phantom, even though it sounds a bit… evil to him. Russell was the one to actually come up with it, because “it works with your powers and it's cool and easy to remember! Trust me on this!” and like always, Russell was right

- It doesn't take very long for Sunil, Vinnie and Russell to all become a mini hero squad with Russell forming plans and Vinnie and Sunil actually acting them out. It works for them, but it's absolute chaos. 

- Because of his abilities, Vinnie's eyes are very reptile like, and seeing the way that they dilate and constrict for night vision can be very unsettling if you aren't ready for it. Sunil was, of course, not prepared for it and thought that he had confronted a demon 

- Sunil eventually starts having a ton of visions of Vinnie being injured or killed, so he starts being on high alert at all times and even starts snapping at Vinnie for being reckless at times. He feels incredibly guilty about being so harsh on him, but he's not about to let his partner die because of a thoughtless move

- Vinnie definitely tries to hit on Sunil but it's always at the worst times. Like they'll be fighting off guys that 100% intend to kill them, and in the middle of nowhere Vinnie's just like “y'know, you're kinda hot when you're fighting-” and Sunil never registers it because he's, you know, trying not to die 😭

- Bonus from the previous HC: they definitely all have communication devices, so Russell can hear all of what Vinnie says. And he'll just sit there, dropping his head into his hands and sighing as he hears these awful attempts at completely unsubtle flirting.

Roddacember Day 3: Monsters and Animals

Now this is a tough prompt to choose for. Rodda's creatures are almost always excellent, especially with the focus on their ecology and how they fit in with their world.

I'll give an honorable mention to the many Australianesque reptiles of Deltora and co, like the unnecessary variety of deadly snakes, and the grachs, the deadly three-tailed repto-beasts that the Zebak use as beasts of burden. But I think for today I'll lay the focus on Deltora's dragons.

Perhaps that's too easy, but you and I both know that dragons are cool as frick.

Deltora's dragons actually stick closer to the tropes than most fantasy series portray them. They breathe fire and fly and dragon around the place. They embody both the ancient, wise guardian of the land, and the dangerous reptilian megafauna (and they do a damn good job at both). They even have secret names that let you command them, and color coding too.

If you're like me, their classic, unsullied dragonliness was plenty to win you over. Dragons are, honestly, probably the ideal subject for Marc McBride's (the cover artist's) fantastical, snaggletoothed style, and the text puts in work to build the right atmosphere as well. Remember the only time a dragon appears in the first two series?

The party is crawling through an overgrown cave (to get to the adventure, of course), and they pass a golden mass, in shadow.

An immense reptilian eye opens and fixes Lief in its gaze for a long moment.

And then they continue on and try to forget that happened.

They don't sacrifice their wildness and their innate power, when they appear as conversational partners.

I do perhaps wish their ways of life were explored some more, and I have thoughts on what we do know of them, but that's for another time.

The Dragon of the Mountain, from Rowan of Rin, does intrigue me in particular. Dragons are very famous to the continent of Deltora; it used to be called the Land of Dragons, even. What's one doing here?

Personally, I subscribe to the theory that this dragon is indeed from Deltoran stock. Dragons are tied as deeply to their homes as the gems of the Belt are. Forta is not quite the last of her stock; over the western sea, a deserter sleeps on high, guarding a land that can't quite sustain them in the same way. But they still muster the strength to roar at dawn.

Bia Maria proporcionou uma incrível matiné | Foto: Município de Santo Tirso A oitava edição do Sonoridades ocupou novamente o Centro Cultural Municipal de Vila das Aves, tal como nas edições anteriores. Este ano aconteceu entre os dias 1 e 4 de maio. O início deu-se na quinta-feira, dia 1 de maio, aproveitando o feriado nacional em que se celebrou o Dia do Trabalhador.

A organização esteve ao encargo, como vem sendo hábito, da Câmara Municipal de Santo Tirso. Já a direção artística e produção coube à 1bigo – Artistas e Eventos, promotora também responsável pelo evento em anos transatos.

Este ano, pela primeira vez, o Sonoridades teve apoio do headLiner como Media Partner. O headLiner já tinha estado presente em ocasiões anteriores: nos quatro concertos realizados em 2024 e em dois na edição de 2023.

Dia 3 de maio – Miss Universo

Tal como na noite transata, o concerto tinha o início aprazado para as 22 horas. Neste sábado registou-se uma boa casa pese embora o mau tempo e as abundantes propostas culturais em cidades da região como, por exemplo, A Garota Não no Centro Cultural Vila Flor em Guimarães ou os aniversários de Theatro Circo e gnration em Braga com diversa oferta musical de qualidade insuspeita e com acesso gratuito.

André Ivo e Afonso Branco são a dupla por detrás do projeto Miss Universo. Apresentaram-se com mais três músicos em palco.

Afonso e André: os Miss Universo | Foto: Município de Santo Tirso Começaram a atuação com o pé esquerdo já que Afonso não tinha a sua “maquinaria” toda bem afinada. Por isso mesmo houve necessidade de aguardar alguns momentos para que tudo tivesse devidamente certo. Achei a introdução vocal demasiado longa e até algo aborrecida. Provavelmente isso fez-me ficar um pouco desinteressado e acabou por “desligar” a minha boa expetativa para o resto.

A maioria do público desfrutou da atuação, parece-me que sabia ao que ia. A autocrítica que posso fazer é que se calhar esperava outra coisa e por isso é que fiquei um pouco desapontado.

Quando vejo uma banda a “sacar” de versões quando têm temas originais para tocar deixa-me logo de “pé atrás”, especialmente quando lançam essas versões logo ao terceiro tema. Os Miss Universo interpretaram “Roda Viva” um tema de Chico Buarque logo tão cedo no alinhamento e ainda por cima com Branco a cantar com sotaque brasileiro. Mais adiante fizeram uma versão pop dançante de “O Navio Dela” de Manel Cruz. Não fiquei minimamente impressionado por nenhuma das interpretações.

Miss Universo em versão banda de 5 elementos | Foto: Município de Santo Tirso “Estamos Entregues aos Bichos” e “Ser Português”, singles de proeminência deste projeto, foram as únicas interpretações às quais até achei piada e apreciei minimamente. Já os outros temas foram tocados quase em regime de “banda de baile”. Achei demasiada florida a estética sonora para os temas. Curiosamente o jogo de luzes foi, em diversas ocasiões, uma espécie de arco-íris. Se calhar até foi propositado…

Fiquei apresentado a ‘Manifesto do Jovem Moderno’ ao vivo, este que é o disco de estreia desta dupla. Em modo de balanço final não fiquei “ligado” à estética musical dos Miss Universo. Não deitei a toalha ainda ao chão. Quiçá o futuro possa desdizer-me…

Dia 4 de maio – Bia Maria

Como tem sido norma neste evento o último concerto fica reservado para o domingo com debute ao final da tarde, normalmente às 18:30 horas. Como em outras ocasiões as coletividades da terra foram chamadas para fazerem parte. Desta vez o Grupo Coral de Vila das Aves respondeu ao repto e participou no concerto de Bia Maria.

Beatriz Pereira, nascida e criada em Ourém, tem como nome de palco Bia Maria e fez a sua estreia no Centro Cultural Municipal de Vila das Aves. Dos artistas do cartaz deste Sonoridades em 2025, era esta a presença que mais ansiava assistir. A tal não é alheia a situação do último álbum ‘Qualquer Um Pode Cantar’ ter sido eleito como um dos melhores do ano de 2024.

A participação do Grupo Coral trouxe mais alguma gente, sobretudo pessoas de gerações maduras. O concerto teve o seu começo às 18:34 horas e alongou-se por mais de uma hora de duração.

Bia Maria esteve com uma aura e uma presença incrível em palco. Nem mesmo um ligeiro deslize na fase inicial na interpretação de um tema a desconcentrou. Até acho que essa situação a fez estar bem mais compenetrada para todo o restante da performance.

Ela foi extremamente faladora, revelou-se mesmo uma comunicadora nata, com uma abordagem muito simpática, explicando algum contexto das suas canções bem como fazendo rasgados elogios ao Grupo Coral de Vila das Aves. A artista chegou a Vila das Aves no dia anterior para afinar presencialmente os últimos detalhes.

Realmente ela dá corpo ao “Qualquer Um Pode Cantar” de forma literal, reunindo à sua volta um espírito fortíssimo de comunidade e partilha.

“Nódulos + Micronódulos + Afonia” foram interpretadas em sequência. São das três canções do seu mais recente álbum 'Qualquer Um Pode Cantar’. Bia fez questão de referir a participação das Sopa de Pedra no tema “Micronódulos”.

O coro do Grupo Coral de Vila das Aves participou mais vivamente em 5 temas, os dois primeiros foram “Roupa Velha” e “O Corpo”. Efetivamente estiveram a altura da ocasião e deram um contributo giro.

Bia Maria fez-se acompanhar de Samuel Louro na percussão/guitarras e Alberto Hernández nas guitarras (clássica e elétrica). Ela própria, além do uso da sua belíssima voz, tocou viola e utilizou sintetizador. Já o seu repertório, de punho firme de cantautora, assenta em sonoridades inspiradas no fado, no pop e na bossa nova com um cunho firme no canto popular como ponto de partida.

O cenário deu maior impacto ao concerto | Foto: Município de Santo Tirso O concerto teve diversos momentos, sendo que a Bia, tocou também canções a solo incluindo música não editada. Entre alturas mais alegres, houve também ensejos a músicas tristes e melancólicas como foi o caso de “Glícinia”. Outros mais animados como em “Para os Meus Amigos” no qual o público foi também ele um coro.

Tal como em concertos anteriores a decoração cénica foi expressiva e claramente pensada para a integração de coros por detrás deste formato trio.

A fase final do concerto foi mais festiva e edificante com uma tripla interpretação onde os elementos do Grupo Coral tiveram uma participação relevante. Para o encerramento ficaram “Aconchegos de Um Sujeito”, “Marcha da Paridade” e “Qualquer Um Pode Cantar”. Temas vividos pelo público de forma alegre e muito participativa por entre coros e palmas. A artista disse até, de forma divertida, que o tema que dá nome ao álbum, tem o “refrão mais fácil da história da humanidade”. Era apenas uma forma de apelar à participação sendo que as pessoas não se fizeram rogadas.

Samuel Louro e Bia Maria | Foto: Município de Santo Tirso Bia Maria afirmou também que cantar em coro e em conjunto tem o poder de mudança e realmente é uma constatação pertinente em tempos tão estranhos em que é necessário que as pessoas estejam mais sintonizadas umas com as outras.

Para mim, este último concerto do Sonoridades em 2025, foi o mais cativante e que melhores sensações provocou em mim. A minha estreia com a artista oriunda de Ourém teve nota extremamente positiva. Irei querer repetir a experiência num futuro breve.

Notas finais

Em jeito de balanço deixo as minhas felicitações à organização pela alta qualidade do evento no qual proporcionaram excelentes condições aos artistas para realizarem as suas performances bem como condições de conforto para o público num Centro Cultural bem acolhedor. Três euros foi o valor do bilhete diário, simplesmente irrisório, perante tanta qualidade apresentada.

Agradecimentos especiais ao senhor Sérgio Neto da 1bigo e ao pessoal da frente de casa pela ajuda preciosa para que eu tivesse todas as condições para a realização desta reportagem. Um último agradecimento ao Município de Santo Tirso pela cedência e permissão dos registos fotográficos.

O Sonoridades apresentou novamente um cartaz apelativo este ano e mais uma vez pode-se dizer que foi um sucesso. A nível organizativo nada a apontar e espero que o Município de Santo Tirso continue a apostar no evento. Trata-se de uma oferta cultural ímpar para um concelho que necessita destas afirmações culturais.

And I was trying for years to find a picture of that really cool antagonist monster in it. Now it looks like the walkthrough industry for this game is booming and I finally found it again.

I guess from the tentacles and bong-rip bubbling noise it makes, it was supposed to be aquatic but I'm still thinking of it as repto-avian, and also as female because of a few cartoon "tells".
