Repertory Philippines' first offering this year is suspense thriller play Wait Until Dark, and if you're still thinking whether to go see it or not, allow us to enumerate reasons why you totally SHOULD.
Reasons why you shouldn't miss Rep's WAIT UNTIL DARK:
~ We all loved the classic Audrey Hepburn film, it would be really interesting to see all of that onstage.
~ It's a suspense thriller play, which is something we don't always get in the Manila theater scene!
~ All the action and suspense literally kept us at the edge of our seats the entire time! Hats off to Miguel Faustmann's direction, Gold Soon's stage management, and Jethro Joaquin's sound design!
~ The set design was really good, the lighting was amazing. We don't think a show that revolves around a blind woman and her independence on light can work and be conveyed as faithfully if it weren't for John Batalla's spot-on lighting design.
~ The crazy power-house ensemble. Joel Trinidad and Robbie Guevara as Mike and Sgt. Carlino respectively were such lovable bad guys. Arnel Carrion, who just stepped into the role of Harry Roat along with Lorenz Martinez who plays Sam days before its opening, was so effective you just wanna kill him. And Dani Gana, last seen as Alice in Rep's Alice in Wonderland, was such a convincing adorable little brat.
~ Liesl Batucan. I mean, give this woman all the Aliw Awards! She stepped on stage and became Susy and for a moment there, you actually forget she's not really blind in real life. She was nothing short of awesome!
So, if you haven't seen Rep's WAIT UNTIL DARK yet, go grab your tickets now! The show's approaching its final weekend and you SO don't wanna miss it! Tickets are available through Ticketworld at 891-9999, or via ticketworld.com.ph.
See you at the theater!

Love, Peace, and Rock ‘n’ Roll as REP stages Hair this November
Hair, the first ever tribal love-rock musical on Broadway, is the year-end grand musicale of Repertory Philippines’ (REP) 2017 season. Relive the rocking spirit of the 60’s in this iconic production from November 17 to December 17 at the Onstage Theater, Greenbelt 1, Makati City
Hair, the first ever tribal love-rock musical on Broadway, is the year-end grand musicale of Repertory Philippines’ (REP) 2017 season. Relive the rocking spirit of the 60’s in this iconic production from November 17 to December 17 at the Onstage Theater, Greenbelt 1, Makati City.
Caisa Borromeo as Sheila
Set in the tumultuous 1960’s, the twenty-somethings of New York City band together to form a tribe – the hippies – as a cry of protest against the Vietnam War. The story follows native Oklahoma farm boy Claude, who meets the energetic, irrepressible tribe of Central Park hippies on his way to enlist in the US Army. This free-spirited tribe, led by the charismatic Berger, inspires Claude to rebel against the war, his parents, and society, and to assert love, peace and freedom.
George Schulze as Berger
From its groundbreaking use of rock music in theater to its fearless depiction of the decade’s stark realities - from the bohemian underground, the sexual revolution, and the violent anti-war movement- Hair is an unforgettable and iconic production that is truly a product of its time, and continues to be a relevant piece of theater up to today.
Markki Stroem as Claude
The angst and energy of the era is captured in the show’s amazing musical score with classic hits like “Let the Sun Shine In,” “Aquarius,” and “Good Morning Starshine.” Hair even won the 1969 Grammy Award for Best Score from An Original Cast Show Album, while its 2009 Broadway revival earned the Tony Award for Best Revival of a Musical.
Topper Fabregas alternates Markki Stroem as Claude
In REP’s version of this award-winning production, Markki Stroem alternates with Topper Fabregas as Claude with George Schulze as Berger, Caisa Borromeo as Sheila, and a stellar cast of young performers. Chris Millado directs the grand musicale with Ejay Yatco as musical director.
You won’t be able to resist getting pulled into this phenomenon with book and lyrics by Gerome Ragni and James Rado, and music by Galt McDermot.
Don’t miss REP’s final offering for the season. Purchase your tickets by calling REP at 843 3570 or Ticketworld at 891 9999, or log on to www.ticketworld.com.ph.

On The Menu: Repertory Philippines' THE PRODUCERS
“THE PRODUCERS,” THE HAPPIEST AND GAYEST MUSICAL IN THE UNIVERSE, ALL SET TO OPEN ON NOV. 15
THE PRODUCERS, the biggest hit in Broadway history, is all set to conquer Manila’s theater scene when the musical opens on November 15 at Onstage, Greenbelt 1, Makati City.
Presented by Repertory Philippines in celebration of its 46th year, THE PRODUCERS (based on Mel Brooks’s 1968 hit movie) has become a Broadway phenomenon, turning the tradition of a Broadway musical on its head more than any other show in the history of the Great White Way. With a run of over 2,500 shows on Broadway, over two years at London’s Theatre Royal Drury Lane and many hundreds of shows performed on tour and international productions, THE PRODUCERS is one of the most highly awarded musicals, having received 12 Tony Awards and 10 Drama Desk Awards in 2001 and three Laurence Olivier Awards in 2005. A remake of the big-screen version in 2005 featured Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick, the stars of the original Broadway production, as well as Uma Thurman and Will Ferrell.
Written by Hollywood comic veteran Mel Brooks (creator of SPACEBALLS, BLAZING SADDLES, and YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN, among many others), and Thomas Meehan (HAIRSPRAY), with songs arranged by Glen Kelly and Doug Besterman, THE PRODUCERS is a story about Max Bialystock, a struggling Broadway producer and Leo Bloom, a stage-struck accountant. These two men join forces in order to make mega-bucks by producing the worst musical ever seen on Broadway. When they receive a musical script from Franz Liebkind, an ex-Nazi stormtrooper, which tells the story of Hitler’s rise to power in song and dance, they are convinced that they have found a show that is guaranteed to offend just about everybody. The Philippine production of THE PRODUCERS will be directed by Jaime del Mundo, with the able support of top caliber actors CARLO OROSA and ROBIE ZIALCITA alternating as Max Bialystock, the down-on-his-luck theatrical producer and a shameless con man facing bankruptcy, who woos little old ladies into backing his shows.
TOPPER FABREGAS takes on the role of Leopold ‘Leo’ Bloom, a mousy mild-mannered accountant who transitions from an uptight corporate drone to a freewheeling Broadway playboy.
Media icon G TÖNGI will tackle the role of Ulla, a blonde Swedish bombshell who auditions for the show and becomes Max and Leo’s secretary/receptionist.
Actor-director JOEL TRINIDAD plays Franz Liebkind, a former Nazi whose play is chosen by Max and Leo as a definite flop.
Stage and screen veteran NOEL TRINIDAD (Joel’s father) takes on the role of Roger De Bris, the flamboyant homosexual cross-dresser chosen to direct the show. He will be alternating with role of Roger with one of the icons of Philippine musical theater AUDIE GEMORA.
Versatile actor NOEL RAYOS will take the role of Carmen Ghia, Roger’s “common law assistant.”
The ensemble is composed of Nelsito Gomez, Steven Conde, Tristan Cheng, Jay Pangilinan, Chino Veguillas, Leroy de Guzman, Natalie Everett, Daff Abear, Liesl Batucan, Mica Pineda, Shalee Vicencio, and Gemini Quintos.
Co-presented by the City of Makati, THE PRODUCERS promises to be a Broadway thrill ride, with silly gags, irreverent humor, and show-stopping musical numbers at every turn.
The show runs from November 15 to December 15, 2013, with shows on the following dates:
