Okay I have seen several people say that Bryan and Mike supported the original movie until after the backlash and was wondering if you knew of any sources on it?

Okay, I know you just saw some of the stuff I managed to dig up (or had friends find for me, thank you so much @lady-of-bath, you truly are the queen!), but since the internet has been blowing up over the announcement that Bryan and Mike are no longer working on the Netflix live action ATLA remake, I might as well throw this out in public too!

So, in the interest of being as objective as humanly possible, let me start off by saying that the internet being what it is, it’s hard to find sources of information about the creation of a 10-year old, widely panned movie. The fact that I can’t personally find it doesn’t mean that it isn’t out there, or that it wasn’t purged in the past 10 years. But, that said, I wound up with more than I expected. Brace yourselves 😉 (sources will be linked!)

So, back in 2008, both Bryan and Mike were very enthusiastic about the movie. And, in their own words, well... Bryan said:

The one thing we weren't joking about is that we really are helping on the movie quite a bit. Night has been very collaborative from the get-go, from the first time we ever met him. Very respectful of the project and of us. So we're helping out a lot on that.

They also did this interview with M. Night Shyamalan (posted in July 2009, though I’m not sure when it was filmed), in which it was confirmed that:

Bryan and Mike were actively working with M. Night

Bryan and Mike looked over M. Night’s script and approved of the changes

Bryan and Mike were planning to be on set for filming

Based on the content of the video interview, it’s clear that casting wasn’t complete at the time the interview was filmed, though the initial cast was announced in December 2008, before the interview was posted. So it’s hard to say whether Bryan or Mike had strong feelings about the whitewashing of the cast at the time, but based on the fact that Mike said (6:05 in the video linked above), “Well, if you don’t find anyone for Aang, I’d like to suggest perhaps I could, y’know, maybe play him”, I don’t think whitewashing was high on their list of concerns at the time. I know it’s a joke. I know that. But given Bryke’s tendencies to make insensitive, or downright insulting jokes, then double down on them years later (Book 4: Air, and Bryan’s later repost of the video with the world’s most condescending caption (featuring a dictionary definition of the word “joke”), I’m looking at you) rather than admitting that they were in poor taste (and the fact that that adult Aang looks exactly like Mike with a jawline), I’m inclined to believe that they genuinely DID NOT CARE about the ethnicity of the actors cast at this point. And again, this interview came before the casting and before the associated backlash.

Now, admittedly, this is the last information I can find from Bryke relating to the live action movie before the movie’s release in 2010. And a lot can change in 2 years. According to this post, a lot did change, and not at M. Night’s request, though this is a secondary source of a now-deleted forum post, so the reliability of the information is anyone’s guess. But, that said, there was an active controversy surrounding the casting of the live action beginning in 2008 (taking the timeline from the wiki because I can’t find a semi-comprehensive rundown anywhere else). The movie was released in 2010. Plenty of people associated with the original series made their disapproval public. Bryke, though? The first time I can find them even referring to the live action disaster is in this interview from 2011:

Wall Street Journal: Have you heard anything about whether there will be a sequel to the "Last Airbender" live-action feature film? Michael DiMartino: Uh, no. It's definitely not up to us, so.

No mention of their opinion of the thing. And three years of silence doesn’t exactly equate to an endorsement of the movie, but uh... three years is a lot of time in which they could have made their opinions known, especially about the whitewashing, which was a widely-known problem.

If they were truly concerned about representation, which seems to be the thing that a LOT of the internet is worried about after their exit from the Netflix live action, wouldn’t they have had something to say about it? Just asking.

Oh, but they did... eventually. In 2013, 3 years after the movie’s release, and 5 years after they (to my knowledge) last expressed an opinion on the movie, Bryan made this post in response to criticism of the Kataang kids’ skin color in LOK. And he had this to say about the live action movie:

I prefer to stay out of this type of discourse on Tumblr and let the large body of work Mike and I have put out there over the years speak for itself (which obviously DOES NOT include the gross misinterpretations and misrepresentations of our work in this guy’s work).

That’s as specific as it gets. Pretty passive-aggressive and open to interpretation if you ask me. The only reason you can tell that he’s actually referring to the live action movie is because in the original post, “this guy” links out to M. Night’s page, and the only reason you can tell that he’s referring to the whitewashing of the cast is because the post is a response to similar criticisms levelled against LOK.

Then apparently there was an interview in 2014 that finally went more in depth on the subject of the live action, but the original was deleted, and the transcript I was able to locate is practically unreadable. No names attached to any of what was said, so I really couldn’t tell you who thought what about the movie, and honestly, if anyone can decipher this garbled mess, I salute you. It seriously looks like a cat walked across a keyboard for an hour while autocorrect went bananas.

Ah, old internet drama. So hard to track down.

Anyway, all of that is why the wiki summarizes the situation by saying:

Before the film's release, co-creators Bryan Konietzko and Mike DiMartino vocally supported the film, even appearing in an interview with M. Night Shyamalan. However, following the film's release and the negative reception it had received, the two remained quiet on the film, making only brief statements on it.

And that is why I’m laughing my butt off with every person I see lamenting Bryke’s exit from the Netflix live action. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t have high hopes for the thing. Ideally, I’d like to see the whole thing cancelled, ATLA allowed to go down in history as a great show, and the creators to move on to new, unrelated projects (come on, dudes, you’ve gotta have at least one more original idea you could try instead of beating the ATLA universe into a bloody, unrecognizable pulp). And failing that, I’d like to see the show recreated faithfully, some plot threads in Book 3 tied a little tighter, and no canon romances with the possible exception of Suki/Sokka. But Bryke’s involvement was never a guarantee of quality. Sure, it might suck without them. But it could have sucked just as badly with them on board. Maybe now it will suck in new and unexpected ways!

ANNOUNCEMENT

i will be moving this writing blog as one of my side blogs and will be remaking this blog into a navigation account circle as this is my main and i handle a blog where i make other stuff (i make gifs and will likely also make another blog to post my drawings) — it will be more convenient if i turn this into some kind of shitposting blog of some sort (just reblogging here and there and prolly just simping on channie) and one that could easily navigate people to my other blogs.

if you still wish to see my writings in the veryveryverylonglong future, my username will still be the same but i will not be managing the account active yet. i am also planning on seperating my sfw from my nsfw works to be more commodious and organized.

i moved here! (it’s empty so you don’t have to follow it! just so you know where to find me)

it might take long for me to make that writing blog active as how it was before as i may do some changes on all the drabbles if i ever repost them or if i ever really plan to. i will be taking my time on thinking about it and revising.

it honestly have been a few months already, i am slightly bothered and not satisfied with most of my works (not like they were that good to even start with) and as long as they’re up, i cannot bring myself to stay still and that is why i took all of them down and only left the last two pieces that i’ve made which are both headcanons (that i will also be deleting later).

i do not think i will be that active in writing as much for now, i hope you all understand. i will be taking a break from writing because i just cannot seem to be motivated as much as i felt before. it’s frustrating.

a lot of other ideas and concepts have rushed into my head after i posted my very first one shot and surprisingly enough people liked it. that made me want to write more longer fics, i felt a surge of excitement of wanting to get them finished already while typing in plots and saving the drafts but as days go by.. the joy that i felt slowly turned into a ‘oh fuck i think i hate writing but i love to write-’ kind of feeling. i would just end up staring at the screen with my fingers laying on the keyboard. not moving. mind empty.

even the last two things i’ve written felt so rushed and well.. shit- rereading it just makes me cringe at myself so much. like i just had to post something to keep this blog active though it’s practically dead already lol anyways, i apologize if you guys have ever been waiting for something new from me. i know some of you might be disappointed but it can’t be helped. i will try harder though. i love to write, i want to keep writing and i hope i can get back to it.

Cartoon Network Universe: Earth One - A Tour of California

DEVELOPER'S JOURNAL - SUPPLEMENTARY

Unfortunately, no this isn't Chapter 7. But it is something worth reading.

So if you've been following this story for a while, you've probably noticed that there are a few anachronisms in the world of the Cartoon Network Universe. I do have an explanation in mind, but for now, let's just keep it at me having to make certain calls when it comes to merging the worlds of so many Cartoon Network shows, as the majority of them were produced independently from one another.

But I also realized it wasn't entirely fair to you guys, who might not be able to keep track of worldbuilding and expository content.

So, I've come to a decision that I am probably going to regret in the future, specifically in terms of the style and genre. I am going to have, between each 6 chapters, a little cutaway bumper that informs you on the map of this world. This will give me the chance to clarify all things that you might be confused by when it comes to my writing (Honestly I don't blame you. My English isn't the best...which is ironic since it's my first language.)

The reason why I was so apprehensive of this idea at first was because of the tone it might cast over the rest of the story. Informational bumpers like this are a staple of certain anime like Attack on Titan and My Hero Academia, but with this story's subject matter leaning closer to AOT, I feared that these bumpers would create a "history-book" vibe to it. Y'know, like these alternate history stories people write where they go in-depth into the layout and politics of the war.

What's problematic about that approach for me is that it can be a very adult motif, one that can strip the story of any fantastical elements by grounding everything into hard square reality. Furthermore, most fellow FusionFall stories implement a personal touch into their work. Granted, by focusing on the entire cast of NPCs and the larger CNU, I haven't made this job easy for myself. But come future chapters and the personal touch will be essential, just as it was essential with Volume 1.

But I guess that's a bunch of superstition. Right now, enjoy reading the layout of the setting of my story. Be ready for even more creative liberties than seen in the OG Game, because the Map I created here is vastly different compared to that of the original or remakes. This map also comes with nice little exposition blurbs, all of which are set One Month before the Time Travel Experiment and thus two months before the invasion begins. I will be listing heroes that claim these areas or districts within each city. As the story moves forward from this bumper, heroes covered by a [SPOILER] tag will be revealed as they claim positions throughout the war and beyond. For future stories outside of FusionFall, it's also very possible that you'll be seeing this bumper more than once and with updates.

MAP OF TURFS

The Sister Cities - California

SIYENN: The largest of the three Sister Cities situated in the Western state of California, Siyenn City is a melting pot of countless businesses, families, and liveliness, all enhanced by the ever-growing pursuit of innovation. With a multitude of heroes, technological corporations, child geniuses, and casual life, this city is not only fortified, but ensured of a brighter tomorrow!

TECH SQUARE - Dexter McPherson, Simon Astronomonov; Once Siyenn Square, it was rechristened as Tech Square in honor of the astounding technological achievements transpiring there. Home to partnering and competing companies, Dexlabs and Mandark Industries, Tech Square has become the center of innovation and impossibility, inspiring countless geniuses by any standard to look sharp for a fine day for science!

-- Dexter McPherson, founder, CEO, and Chief Scientific Developer of Dexlabs, has announced a private time travel experiment to the public! Seeking to send volunteers or a volunteer approximately one hour into the future! The seclusive but famous scientist reportedly received supplies from various suppliers, such as Goat's Junkyard, Maxwell's Plumbing Services (oddly enough), an unnamed investor rumored to be in Quahog, Rhode Island, as well as MIT and the CERN research project! For any brave and daring volunteers, answer the call, for the time is now! And the test subject can be YOU!

GALAXY GARDENS - N/A; This emporium of greenhouse greatness was marked as a sign of good faith and will towards the ecological salvation of the planet. Galaxy Gardens is a thriving plant and animal sanctuary for all to enjoy, and though some might denote it as a simple zoo, Dexlabs has announced its intentions to study plant-based solutions to climate change and other potential problems facing the planet.

STEAM ALLEY - [SPOILER]; Though the most economically staggered of the city, this district, nicknamed "Steam Alley", held an astounding position as home to leaders of the automotive and energy industries, such as that of the Rainbow Factory and WERK Co. Though with the rise of tech giants like Dexlabs and M-Industries, it's not in that great shape anymore. But before its time, Steam Alley saw rise to oil trade tycoons such as Boss Franklin Fullbright, and even renowned bio-engineers like the late Rafael and Violeta Salazar.

-- Homeland Security agency Providence have been spotted in the area, more than likely in the hopes of opening a city-based installation. Though many people are feeling safer already, some have objected for opposite reasons, as well as the plans not offering any economic resurgence to Steam Alley.

MOREBUCKS TOWERS - [SPOILER]; As part of a housing initiative with the Morebucks Corporation, namely on the behest of Jennifer Morebucks, the city looks to open more housing options for those in the middle class or lower. Using the latest advancements in technology from Mandark Industries, the construction of these houses will be sped up to a considerable rate. The future looks bright for what used to be a normal everyday district.

-- Ms. Morebucks, a former supervillain, made a clear and distinct threat to her markets and shareholders that if they did not invest in the project, she would have them evicted from their houses and would use them for menial purposes. The shareholders were almost immediately confused by the nature of this act, wondering how a threat such as that could be fueled by a genuinely noble and thoughtful initiative. They all chalked it up to an ulterior motive on her part. Nevertheless, they all decided to fund her project.

CITY STATION - [SPOILER]; The heart of Siyenn City is also the best way to get around town; the City Station district is the public transportation staple of the entire city, and even more as its Slider Buses can carry you all the way to Townsville and Bellwood. Its transportation-focused industry has made it the centerpiece for a cultural metropolis, with bright lights lining the skyscrapers, joints and hangouts for people of all ages to enjoy. City Station's refurbished place in Siyenn City was a part of Dexlabs and Mandark Industries' massive technological initiative, building the massive Station Tower to serve not only as a hub for all passengers, but to also provide extra connection services to the entire district. City Station continues to thrive thanks to Dexlabs and Mandark's continued efforts.

-- City Station High School would like to publicly recognize one of its own students, Vana Thunderwarp, for her bravery and heroic saving of Dr. Gale Spacebyte, a government scientist who would have been killed by a malfunctioning slider. But that's not all. The young anthro-wolf student immediately contacted Dexlabs and helped identify the issue that caused the malfunction. We at City Station High School value dedicated study and civic duty within our students, and open our arms to those like Ms. Thunderwarp willing to make a difference in this vast world. (even if our moron Principal is the literal opposite - Noah V., friend of Vana)

GENIUS GROVE - [SPOILER]; The innovation does not stop at the city, as the suburbs of Genius Grove are home to some of the most impossible things the world has yet to see. The birthplace and home of both Dexter McPherson and Simon Astronomonov, they both grew up with like-minded intentions concerning technology, actively working together to see their dreams come to fruition. It is here in Genius Grove where great minds not only think alike, but aspire to be greater.

-- Shady businessman Benedict Uno and his delightful wards recently attempted to close a deal with Alderman Jeff McPherson, father of Dexlabs CEO Dexter McPherson, to open their delightful developments project. McPherson declined, much to the chagrin of Uno. There's been no official word on his next steps, though some say he may attempt to try again in Bellwood's Peach Creek Estates.

ENDSVILLE - Billy, Mandy, The Grim Reaper; Endsville may seem like the most haunted place on Earth, probably because it is. But behind a gloomy and shocking exterior is a community that thrives on liveliness and prosperity. No matter how many people try to escape our beloved town, Endsville is your last stop...to not die, but to...just come here, please. Please?

ORDINAL HEIGHTS - [N/A]; A calmer neighborhood for a calmer time, Ordinal Heights is a place to keep away from the various calamities of the universe and relax. Once you rent a house, you'll never want to leave. So come visit our little town!

-- Due to unexplained bursts of gravitational fluxes and massive surges of radiation emerging from a [REDACTED], Dexlabs and Providence have advised that this neighborhood be quarantined and cordoned off until further notice. For your own safety, DO NOT VISIT.

CRYSTAL COVE - [Formerly] Mystery Inc.; Before Endsville was dubbed the most haunted place on the West Coast, Crystal Cove held that title, famous for being the final place of activity from Mystery Incorporated, and infamous for giving the Ohio-born detective group genuine supernatural threats to investigate before they all vanished and (presumably) disbanded.

MASSACHUSETTS PARK - Mordecai & Rigby; Founded by Curtis Montgomery and his lollilander pupil Stick Maellard in the late 1800s, Massachusetts Park has stood the test of time in blazing through history and struggle. In the center of the park lies the Maellard Residence, providing the area with a feeling of home and safety. Despite reports of the zany, unpredictable, the surreal, and worst of all, various reports of employee misconduct, the Park and its staff stand ready to preserve this historic foundation.

-- Last week was the 2-year anniversary for the death of Pops Maellard, the son of Mr. Stick Maellard and the then-groundskeeper of Massachusetts Park. In what could only be described as launching an entire acre of land into space, the Park was reported to have been caught in a battle between the forces of good and evil in the cosmos, to which Pops sacrificed himself. There has been no comment from the Government-sponsored Galactic Guardian Group (G3), or the Department of Metahuman Affairs and Abnormalities, who specialize in investigation of the cosmically supernatural. All the latter group had to say was that classified intergalactic contacts were looking into the aftermath. The Special Extraterrestrial Containment Team arrived shortly after to debrief all members trapped aboard the Park in launch. In this anniversary, many of the Park's staff were there to pay respects to their dear friend.

- Goat's Junkyard, West Coast Division - Megas (Coop); Originally founded in New Jersey, proprietor and former tattoo artist Scot 'Goat' Rienecker expanded his junkyard operations to the other side of the United States. In Jersey, his junkyard gained a notable reputation for housing a vast array of salvaged technology, with many complaining simply because the city would be destroyed by robots and aliens before they could visit. Goat's Junkyard is the place to go if you're looking for off-hand items and re-engineered technology, no matter how illegal it might be!

TOWNSVILLE: - Powerpuff Girls; The City of Townsville! A safe haven for all, a flourishing and lively populace, a loyal and brave community, and home to the world's youngest and greatest trio of superheroines! This fine city has been under their protection for 10 prosperous years, and the skies have never been brighter since. This fine city is a place to go to see hope before your very eyes. Ignore the high insurance rates and outrageous crime waves, because the Powerpuff Girls will always be there to save you in the City of Townsville!

-- People are still worried for the middle Powerpuff, Buttercup Utonium, who suffered a major blow during a battle with the evil Mojo Jojo. The Powerpuff was smacked far off into the Pacific Ocean and disappeared into the waters. The green Powerpuff returned to her family a week after her disappearance, but has refused to offer any knowledge or word on what happened to her during her absence. We wish our toughest fighter the best in health and spirit as she continues to keep the city safe!

- Townsville Square - Jenny Morebucks; A bustling shopping industry incarnate, this plaza is at the heart of the city and maintains its great variety of malls, studios, and more, with the trademark location of the Sunken Super-Mall, this is a center for consumerism, and we invite YOU to find everything you'll need and want.

-- With the retirement of her father, Oliver Morebucks, young heiress Jennifer Grace Morebucks has since taken over his place as head chairwoman and CFO. Having been in this position for about 4 years now, Morebucks has brought the company into several disputes over acts of corporate greed, villainy, and subversion of ethical...anything, things that were mostly avoided by her lack of ownership in the company when she started her career in villainy. Morebucks has yet to recuperate from the low financial position and brand image the "Princess" has put them in, though Jennifer herself has ceased most villainous activity in recent times.

- Townsville City Hall - The Mayor of Townsville; The headquarters of Townsville's government is a dedication to triumph and might in the face of hardship. Here lies the Mayor's office, and the Mayor himself as he guides Townsville through times of despair, thanks in part to our terrific triplets that the Mayor dispatches to handle situations. It's because of this landmark that this fine city has stood tall and never backed down, even when a giant monster knocks it down.

-- Just today, the Mayor announced the undoing of his latest decree: that all pickle jars be made with paper lids. Buyers of pickles found their food to have been spoilt due to the poor standards of containment imposed by the Mayor.

TOWNSVILLE PARK; This local and public park is the perfect spot for peace and quiet, especially when the city life can be so overwhelming. Townsville hosts many of its local events and celebrations here, as even this peace would not dare be disturbed by villainy.

- Mojo's Volcano - Mojo Jojo; Before even the crime wave, Townsville has always seemed in danger, thanks to the massively slim volcano located near the Park. Nowadays the inactive volcano is under new management: The primate supervillain Mojo Jojo, who lives in his Observatory Lair planning and scheming his maniacal and destructive ideas for destroying the Powerpuff Girls and other villainous acts. However, the city of Townsville is lucky to see Mojo exercise an honor code when it comes to engaging our beloved metropolis, and how fortunate we are that it not occur to him.

-- Following an incident that occurred in 2009, many citizens of Townsville have speculated Mojo's connection to the sudden appearance of green gooey aliens that manifested from glowing plant-like eggs. Speculation also arose from the East Coast, with many citizens of New Jersey identifying the spores to be Gynok, a plant-based lifeform from Saturn that once invaded on a Thanksgiving Parade. However, multiple reports indicated that Gynok was capable of speech, and could mimic objects living and non-living, abilities that were not displayed by these spores, which instead spawned blobby creatures that terrorized various cities instead. Many are wondering what this has to do with Mojo, but have not been able to get a word in due to the primate's limited parole.

MARQUEE ROW - Gangreen Gang; This small but vibrant district holds a special place in the hearts of Townsville's greatest musicians. Currently the focus of the Gangreen Gang's album tour, Marquee Row's impressive auditorium famously held the debut performance of Sunny Bridges, the Atlanta-born jazz-rap musician that currently teaches at Atlanta's Westley School for the Arts; he has since gone down as a legend in contemporary music. It also was notable for holding one of the highest ticket-sales rates for concerts of the West Coast in 2005, thanks to a spectacular performance from J-Pop/Rock duo Puffy AmiYumi. Marquee Row is full of legacy and variety as it has quickly become the hot-spot for Townsville's musicians and many more.

-- The Gangreen Gang are set to perform in the Sunny Bridges Auditorium this July, where they are also set to reveal a new member of their band. Speculation has arisen as to who this member might be, and some rumors report that it's a female backup player. Some have denounced this as pandering, while others have embraced the band's sense of diversity. Others less trusting of the band wonder if this is a ploy to pull off a heist, given their criminal record.

- Harada-Bridges Records; The Harada-Bridges Record Company is a Townsville-based label founded through a joint partnership between former musician/performer Sunny Bridges and Kazuo Harada, former band manager and possible kleptomaniac. Harada-Bridges Records distributes music from many such talents as the TrendBenders, Pizza Party, the Gangreen Gang, Hair to the Throne, Scream-O, and Puffy AmiYumi among others; it even allows for one-time titles, such as "Love makes the World Go Round", or a rather catchy cover of "Surfin' Bird". It also sells redistributions and collections of older albums, including the famous 70s group Shag Carpeting, Fist Pump from the 80s, and smaller names like Mr. Universe. Their building is furnished with a high-end recording studio, in which much of the music they distribute is recorded. Due to Bridges' teaching obligations, the company is partly run by JoJo Melodytour, former manager for the TrendBenders.

-- Famous rappers 'the CrewCrew' were recently excommunicated by the record company for their foul attitude and slanderous speech, and their apparent disrespect towards the memoriam services for Pops Maellard. They have since gone to social media to voice their frustration, only to lose several followers on all relative channels, Instagram in particular.

WILSON WAY;

- Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends; Venture into our quiet and socially vibrant suburban areas to get away from the action, and find a place where the community is tight, trustworthy, and lasts forever. For example? This grand estate that has been a staple of the community since the 1930s. Originally the grand mansion of eccentric heiress Martha Foster, her home has seen a repurposing like no other over the last 60 years. Founded in 1954, the mansion was reimagined as Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends, a place for runaway or outgrown imaginary friends to spend their time and look for new human friends. We in the Wilson Suburbs are proud to see such progressive community work continue for so long, and to maintain a lasting legacy across the country. Regardless of the nanite-related problems that have plagued the imaginary community, Foster's Home keeps its doors open to all real and unreal for refuge and safety.

POKEY OAKS SUBURBS (North & South) - Powerpuff Girls, Professor Utonium; Named after the county Townsville is located in, the Pokey Oaks suburbs are home to many of the denizens of the larger metropolis, appreciating the quieter life contrasting the busy city ahead. In the Northern suburbs, you will find Poakey Oaks' High School, the Morebucks Mansion, the precinct for Townsville PD, and the abandoned home of former supervillain Fuzzy Lumpkins. In the Southern suburbs, you will find the Utonium residence, home to the Powerpuff Girls, Poakey Oaks Kindergarten and Lower School, and the Pokey Oaks highway leading into the larger Townsville city.

HABITAT HOMES - N/A; A thriving suburban community defined for its rising anthro population, Habitat Homes is recognized as a place for...well, whatever it is normal districts do, because this area seems to be set on selling "we have anthropomorphic animals" as their only highlight, which is pretty exploitative. This suburb is home to the Charles Darwin Middle School, notable for having an overwhelmingly anthro-based student body.

BELLWOOD: - Ben 10; This is no ordinary city. Enter a world beaming with possibilities, wrapped up in one of the most popular cities on Earth. Located within Delmarva County and founded in 1638, the city of Bellwood started out as a small town notable as "the most ordinary town on Earth". That has been proven wrong many times over. Since Ben 10 started his super-heroic career at the ripe age of 10, Bellwood has seen a massive amount of attention for sightings of alien life and activity on Earth, and allowed this small town to grow and expand into a bustling city in the same leagues as sister cities Townsville and Siyenn.

- Bellwood Square; The heart of the city and the home to many of Bellwood's landmarks, such as Bellwood Zoo, City Park, a museum, a mall, Madison Elementary, even a Brain Bank!

- City Point; Whoever could forget this small district, host of the annual Summer fair for 20 years in a row, several of which have showcased the Dizzy World Circus hailing from Townsville. City Point also houses the largest amount of alien activity in the entire city, with many wondering how so many aliens appear in and out. But no matter that, City Point is hailed as a place for diversity and acceptance of all lifeforms, no matter how secret.

-- The Dizzy World Circus is set to open business in City Point this summer after a performance in Gateway City, Virginia; this will be the first time they have returned to Bellwood in ten years. However, brand image is being considered as a risk, due to the supervillain Zombozo welding his Ferris Wheel to the ground five years ago and making it near impossible to remove. Architects and engineers are still trying to determine how to bring the Wheel down, as the structure itself appears to be made of Promethium, one of the strongest and most durable metals on Earth.

OFFWORLD PLAZA - Grandpa Max; Seeing humanity's future in the stars, Offworld Plaza was setup in a partnership between Dexlabs, NASA, and Providence whilst being overseen by the Department of Metahuman Affairs and Abnormalities. Offworld Plaza is meant to be the world's first spaceport, with a Dexlabs-modified STS shuttle meant to be the world's first form of public space travel. The project has seen backing from several Bellwood residents, including Ben 10 himself and partners included, and several alien citizens amongst the population. This is being seen as the foremost attempt to fully engage Earth with the larger galactic community.

BELLWOOD SUBURBS/URBAN NEIGHBORHOODS;

- Madison Valley - Ben 10; This mostly quiet neighborhood is close to the Peach Creek community, and is notable for being the birthplace of Ben 10 himself. The neighborhood has received a lot of attention since his public debut last year.

-- Residents of this neighborhood continue to search for Gwen Tennyson, cousin of Ben 10 and former partner in crimefighting. Gwen had reportedly manifested something akin to alien powers, due to alien heritage in the family, and disappeared soon after a conflict involving the Ship-It Corporation and an invasive race of microchips. The search has been continuing for 4 months, and we send the Tennyson family our best wishes.

- Gallagher Commons/Sector V - KND; Home to Benedict Uno, this proud neighborhood prides itself of the progress brought about by its educational system, confident in the molding and shaping of young minds for the larger world. To that, Gallagher Commons also takes pride in its large park statue dedicated to the various superheroes of the world (though due to the lack of heroes in these suburbs, it has yet to be adorned with any holograms or statues). This monument, christened as "Hero's Square", has been the sight of attraction to many, though children seem displeased with the amount of attention it receives, but who cares about them, right?

- Bellwood Sheriff's Department received more reports of angry parents complaining about their kids' whereabouts after school; reports include children whispering secret codes and messages, sneaking out at night, raiding closets of random neighbors of varying ages, and mention of weapons storage in a treehouse. These reports have been dismissed as a case of kids being kids, and parents being parents. Though the mention of a treehouse caught their eye, as there are no reported treehouses in the entire Gallagher neighborhood.

- Peach Creek Estates - The Eds, Rolf, the Urban Rangers; Peach Creek Estates has been a foundation of the Bellwood suburbs for as long as it could remember, founded shortly after the city was built, Peach Creek retains its reputation as the most normal suburb in the entire country, even as the larger city stepped into the larger and more unexpected world. The center of our neighborhood lies in the Peach Creek Commons, a Cul-De-Sac with a loving community that never expect anything out of the ordinary.

-- The Bellwood educational board was happy and elated to give a $100,000 research grant to 16-year old Eddward Zimintator, affectionately known as "Double-D" by his neighbors and friends, for outstanding scientific papers on the applications of nanites towards the reduction of cancer cells, and the correlation between nuclear energy and dark matter. Dexlabs and Mandark Industries, tech companies from Siyenn City, helped pay for the grant, and Mr. Zimintator was excited to have received the honor as opposed to the money. Double-D expressed worry that the large sum of money would be taken advantage of by his friends.

- Bravo Beach City - (formerly) Steven Universe, the Crystal Gems; Bravo Beach City, rechristened after philanthropist and entrepreneur Bunny Bravo, has a history spanning 2 whole centuries, beginning in 1814 with Captain William Dewey founding the city. The city has been under the protection of an alien team dubbed the Crystal Gems, who protected this sub-city of Bellwood for over 200 years since they arrived on Earth. This town has seen alien invasions of lovecraftian/angelic varieties and universe-ending catastrophes unlike any other, and yet it pulled through without the presence of Ben 10. That's worth a look-(#KeepBeachCityWeird - Ronaldo F.)

- Grover Mill - The Amalgam Kids; [REDACTED]

ASTORIA GROUNDS - The Saturdays; Located on the edge of the Pacific Coast, Astoria Grounds was once home to reputable cryptozoologist Doctor Solomon Saturday and his family. After their mansion here was destroyed, the Saturdays maintained operations here by means of their blimp. Astoria has since seen a level of peace unheard of. We have great TV too, renowned for various movie production studios located right here, such as Sumo Slammers: Legends, Weird World (formerly), Tiny'Mon: The Live Adventure, and other great content!

BELLWOOD MOUNTAINS - Camp Kidney, Acorn Flats; Bordering the state of Oregon, the Bellwood Mountains offer citizens a fantastic night-sky view, and a lovely day for campers. The site was recently chosen as the new location for several Midwest-based Summer Camps, such as Camp Kidney and the Acorn Flats Scouts. Originally located in Northern Wisconsin, the Camps were relocated to the West after dangerous reports of robots and monsters were coming in from the nearby state of Illinois, as well as various surreal reports from the nearby city of Elmore. Amongst the Bellwood mountains are the Pimpleback Mountains, Mount Blackhead, and a forest noted for various amounts of exposure to unstable nanites; said site is also reported to be a major hotspot for cryptid activity. Be wary of entering this Twisted Forest.

- CITY SQUARE (Currently under construction); As part of the Movement Ink Initiative, the Three Sister Cities of California are coming together under a united cause: to open new avenues of business and provide a safe and healthy environment for all. More often than not, a kid from our suburbs has to save the day, but it also happens to be his fault. For Porkbelly, things just seem to balance out.

-- Congratulations to local scientists Susan and Mary Test for getting jobs in the states with Dexlabs! We'll miss you while you're away very much! Just don't blow anyone up and don't cause a massive chemical accident!

SOUTHEAST UTAH - Rex, Providence; [REDACTED]

ORCHID BAY, SAN FRANCISCO - [SPOILER]; Arguably the second largest district of the city, this beach-side town is big enough to call itself a city on its own. Renowned for its beach city theme and harbor history, Orchid Bay has been a cultural diaspora, giving children a welcome touch of life from all areas and ethnicities. Admittedly, there have been supernatural occurrences here and there, but it's not like an ice castle is going to rise out of the water.

MARZIPAN CITY, VLATAVA- N/A; This small European city in the Romanian Province of Vlatava is well-known for being home to Mung Daal's Catering Company, one of the world's tastiest European cuisine menus. With their food and this city, you can never go wrong with your vacation.

-- Mung Daal has reportedly taken up a search for a potential apprentice. More details are to follow.

LANGLEY FALLS - CIA, Department of Metahuman Affairs and Abnormalities; [REDACTED]

If you've noticed any inaccuracies or liberties taken with these settings, then I apologize for the liberties taken to make all of this work. When I started my story, my aim was to tell the most grounded FusionFall story I possibly could, which meant that to realistically illustrate the various shows of CN in the same setting and together, I had to change various tiny details (such as the location of Camp Kidney) or massive details (such as moving Steven Universe from the East Coast to the West Coast). Really sorry about that. I wasn't intent on simply transposing the map from FusionFall, which would have simply been mashing all the locations together. Each show has its own unique setting, some of which are integral to the shows' aesthetic. I wanted to honor that as much as possible, and every major change made hurt to make, especially since it fits into the grander plan.

It’s recap of the end of the year party time (with pics)! under the cut because I ramble a lot as usual.

First they gave us SKAM France pillows when we got there so we could sit as comfortably as possible on the floor of the venue. There were about 400 people and it was a tight fit! While we were waiting, they played songs from s3 and 4, everyone was already getting emotional.

The afternoon started with speeches from the execs and David as usual before getting the cast on stage - Assa, Coline, Lula, Maxence, Philippine, Théo, Léo, Robin, Gigi, Moussa, Edouard, Aliénor and later Laïs who was late - and then they showed us a tribute video with iconic scenes of season 3 and 4, in which they included tweets and fanarts by the fans, like testimonies, reactions, etc, everyone was a mess of tears after that.

Then David asked every member of the cast how had their lives changed because of Skam. I filmed this part, link to the video is in the source at the bottom of this post. David hadn’t warned them they would have to answer that question so they weren’t prepared and many got emotional - poor Maxence who went first was a mess. Niels finally got here so he was asked the same question, Antonio too and David answered his own question. A lot of thank yous were exchanged and I’m sorry not sorry about my sniffling in the background of the video but I can’t see people cry and not cry too. The overall message was that they are all proud of what they have done because they can see what an impact the series had just by seeing us in front of them half crying half smiling, as well as with the overwhelming amount of messages they’ve been receiving for months. I really loved what David said about refusing programs that don’t show diversity, that we should stand our ground on this and say no to programs with only white characters or straight couples. That they told one story, but we can and should tell all the others.

Then the crew was called on stage, Jérémy and the editing team to talk a bit, before they showed us the bloopers. That’s when I stopped filming, the room was in the dark anyway and you all saw the bloopers on Youtube by now. Assa tried to leave the stage completely and hide ahah. The cast hadn’t seen them before and there must have been some inside jokes going on because they would laugh WAY LOUDER than us at some stuff. Maxence got so shy about the “I’m ticklish Daviiid” part while everyone was so fond :’) there were a few fond headshakes at Axel’s laughing too.

Then we played a game, a fan would go against one member of the cast and the first to answer the question would win the point. The questions were about the 4 seasons and David called actors who weren’t necessarily in the season just to check if they had paid attention / watched it at all but we DESTROYED THEM. We won so easily, it was hilarious. They got 4 questions right first. The questions ranged from who was Emma dressed as at the halloween party in s1 to what day and exact time did the trailer for s3 dropped. Theo is the worst loser in history, Lula is SO COMPETITIVE, Moussa tried to intimidate the fan that went against him and Coline tried to take her mic, while Niels got his question right and literally jumped in the air, he scared me sdfghjklkj. I was really into it so I didn’t film. But here are a few pics - I haven’t posted them anywhere else so DO NOT repost them. Please.

Then there was a little Q&A, questions were about if they had watched other remakes, why is Arthur’s ig on private and Maxence’s role in The House Of Gaunt - can’t believe there’s going to be a screening at the Grand Rex, I’m so fucking proud, this is HUGE!!!! I filmed parts of this too but not everything because it was questions we had heard before.

We took a lil break to drink and get a bit of fresh air after that before coming back inside. Laïs and Assa were on stage in the dark - keep in my mind we hadn’t seen Laïs before then so we were like ???? IS THAT LAIS?? When did he get here, what’s happening? - and they danced. Beautiful, adorable, show stopping, spectacular, emotional, out of this world. David teased Laïs for being late and asked him the same question about how Skam changed his life or not. I filmed all that.

David then called a fan on stage to share her story. Skam France saved her life. Really. It was extremely emotional. She was so strong, despite shaking so bad. We kept asking that they gave her a hug but David, Niels, Assa and Laïs who were on stage said they would hug her only once she was done talking. They wanted to let her say everything she had to say. Lots, lots of tears then. Niels took Assa under his arm because she was trying hard to keep it together for the fan’s sake. They gave her the biggest, tightest hug when she was done. I didn’t film because it was almost too personal, y’know? Sure she went on stage but her story still feels private, so I felt wrong about filming. I took a few pics though.

Then there was the concert! Coline was singing and playing the piano and guitar, while Léo and Edouard were playing the guitar and the bass. Lula and Gigi joined for the harmonies during Get Lucky and Remember. They sang Get Lucky by the Daft Punk, Fête de Trop by Eddy de Pretto (featured in s3), Unknown by Jacob Banks (featured in s4), Remember by Seinabo Sey and Jacob Banks (featured in s3) and an original song called Menthe à l’eau inspired by Demi Lovato’s overdose (Coline is a big fan). Most of the cast was standing/kneeling to the side of stage to watch and then you had Maxence right in the middle of the fans, hyping the crowd and jumping around. I didn’t film more than my ig stories because my hands were shaking too much but I’ve posted a few pics before, have some again

And then came the last goodbyes with everyone on stage, including cast and crew and I filmed all that. We were all holding our breaths for a potential announcement but they only said thank you, we love you, we’ll be in touch. I could barely hold my camera. And then Zina by Babylone, the music from the last clip of s4 started playing and Coline melted into Maxence arms crying, Assa was holding back tears, they all started hugging and then leaving the stage one by one, the lights went up and we all looked at each others like… so this is it uh. We were not fairing very well, let me tell you. Fans were hugging and drying each other’s tears, I was hugged so tight by people I didn’t even know two months ago and it was just… It was a lot of love. So much love.

Before going outside, they gave us a poster signed by the cast. I stayed in the lobby a bit to look at the BTS pictures I posted before. There was a stand thingy where we could take pics with the Skam Logo and quotes. Maxence saw fans were taking pics there and just jumped in the middle to photobomb them azedfghjk

We then went outside to talk with the cast and crew for a while but the security whisked them away quite quickly so we didn’t have that much time. We had maybe 30 minutes outside with everyone. I went around to take pics and thank them a last time. I’ve posted most of those already.

Niels, David, Jérémy, Coline, Robin, Moussa and Gigi stayed longer, I don’t know why the security didn’t asked them to leave. I had a chat with Jérémy that I want to share because it really struck me. He was wondering if it was true that Skam France was the only remake that does this kind of event. He was so surprised, because and I quote “but how can we not give back just a little bit when you give us so much? I’m just the editor, and you’re here talking with me.” According to him, it’s a feeling shared by everyone in the cast and crew, no matter their role on the show, fans are always happy to see them and talk and ask questions, and they are deeply appreciative of that. Not just the actor, but the crew too. He was extremely grateful and appreciative. And I loved that, because it’s so true, they don’t have to. I’m not saying they other remakes should do this. I’m seeing that I’m baffled the Skam France team considers this normal. They didn’t have to do all this, the screenings, the party. It was for us. Because they don’t know how to thank us.

I took the bus home while holding the pillow they gave us against my chest, not a care in the wolrd about who would see me. I was completely emotionally drained, but happy, and thankful for this amazing cast and crew, all the love that kept pouring out of everywhere during the afternoon. They gave us so much. I saw people on Tumblr and Twitter who were disappointed that they weren’t announcements or more bts content but… this was a party for the fans, a way to celebrate the success of seasons 3 and 4, the only way they found to tell us thank you. It wasn’t a press conference. It was magical. So many smiles. So much laughter. Such tight hugs. It was way more than enough for me.

Ok Skam fandom time to be ridiculously powerful again.

YouTube has just announced that they are getting rid of community contribution captions after the 28th of September. This wouldn’t get rid of past uploaded community captions but it would prevent new captions being uploaded after the 28th

YouTube has said they they will be paying for a 6 month subscription to Amara.org, but after this six month period creator will be on their own.

This is a huge blow to the Hard of Hearing and Deaf communities as well as anyone else who uses or relies on subtitles to consume media.

Community Contributed Subtitles are a hugely important part of the Skam fandom, especially for the remakes that publish on YouTube. So please. PLEASE. sign the petition. I will put it in the notes.

And whilst we’re at it; a huge shoutout to the Skam translators who spend so much of their own time translating and putting captions up, they are the backbone of this fandom.

Hello y’all,

I finally sorted out my blogs, so...

If you want to follow me for shit-posting (i.e. gifs of various fandoms, social issues of all kinds, art I love, posts I find funny...), head to @fukusigma, it has become a secondary blog. I reposted there all the things I wanted to keep, reorganized the tags while at it, and will start running it as I was here. Obviously, @cawolters already found it ;)

If you want to follow me for writerly things, go to @contes-de-rheio. I will continue to manage it the way I was. Which means I’ll repost writing tips and resources, original wips from other writers, and post original content in English.

Now, here, @julie-oc, my main, I don’t know yet what I will do. I’ve deleted nearly all the posts except maybe 10 of them, nearly all French posts. I’m very much considering posting writerly things, but exclusively in French... we’ll see.

To make everyone’s life easier, I’m keeping the same icon both here and @fukusigma.

The Little Mermaid vs Mulan

Now, in case anyone’s missed it (seems unlikely at this point, but you never know):

Disney recently announced that they’re casting black singer/actress Halle Bailey as the lead in their remake of The Little Mermaid.

Disney is currently in post-production on their remake of Mulan. Current release date announced as “Spring 2020″. It stars Liu Yifei in the title role.

So, I originally wrote this in the comment section on a Facebook post, but figured it was worth posting here as well (slightly reformatted, but overall the same). It was all prompted by this meme/picture reposted from CisHet Bullshit:

To answer the question asked above, in case anyone is genuinely confused about the difference, but willing to listen:

Both The Little Mermaid and Mulan draw on preexisting stories not originally written by Disney, and then change them to fit the narrative Disney wanted to tell. But there are some important distinctions:

The Little Mermaid

...was written as a fairy tale, and no specific countries are mentioned. The location for the underwater kingdom is only specified to be "far out in the ocean". Basically, it's set in generic fairy tale-land.

Denmark was a colonial power, and participated in the slave trade (according to sources I can find, they were the 7th largest slave trading nation during the transatlantic slave trade). They did abolish transatlantic slave trade by 1803, but freedom for all slaves in their domain wasn't achieved until 1848.

Some of the slaves from the colonies were also brought to Denmark proper. I recently learned about Hans Jonatan, who escaped from his owner in Denmark in 1801, was officially given his freedom for his bravery in the Danish navy, and then moved to Iceland, becoming the first recorded person of color there.

So there were definitely people of color in Denmark by the time H.C. Andersen wrote The Little Mermaid in 1836.

Mulan

...is an actual Chinese legend, set somewhere between 386-536 CE. The Ballad of Mulan was written sometime in the 6th century, and the oldest surviving text is now from the 11th century. It contains a lot of historical details (people, places, dynasties, etc) that firmly places it in China.

It's generally assumed that Mulan is a fictional character, but there are also numerous sources that argue that she is or at the very least could be based on an actual historical person.

There are some documented contacts between The Roman Empire and China between 100-226 CE. As far as I can tell, no documented marriages between the two cultures, but it's not impossible. Still, even if we were to assume that there were some half-Roman children in China during that period, there would be extremely few of them, and by the time of Mulan, they would likely have been re-assimilated into the main population and extremely unlikely to present as "white" (Oh, and there were oodles of black people in the Roman empire, so if we're having THIS discussion, it'd be just about as easy to argue for making Mulan black).

Representation

Add to all that the fact that in the US today (well, in most of the world, really), being white comes with a lot of privileges, and white people certainly are not under-represented on screen. In fact, white is often treated as the "default", leaving non-white people with precious few instances of seeing someone like them in media.

Representation matters. Currently, the standard is white, cis, male, hetero, able-bodied, neurotypical, etc. Please let people - especially children - see a wider diversity in their media, because finding characters you relate to is really fucking important.

If you don’t believe representation matters that much, consider that Nichelle Nichols was asked by Martin Luther King Jr. in person to remain on Star Trek because there was so little representation at the time. The fact that she took his advice led to one of the first interracial kisses ever televised.

It also led to Nichols working with NASA to recruit minorities and women. The first female astronaut (Dr. Sally Ride) and the first black astronaut (Colonel Guion Bluford) for NASA were both recruited by the program led by Nichols. The first black female astronaut, Mae Jemison, cited Nichols as a big part of what brought about her interest in space.

Also, as Star Trek was originally airing, a young Whoopi Goldberg reportedly ran into the next room, excitedly exclaiming to her mother "There's a black lady on TV and she ain't no maid!". That was the first time she could ever recall seeing a black woman on TV who wasn’t a servant. Seeing Nichols in that role was a big part of why Whoopi Goldberg pursued acting. She in turn inspired current SNL player and Ghostbusters actress Leslie Jones.

What I’m saying is:

REPRESENTATION MATTERS SO FUCKING MUCH.

And also, at this point in time, white people don’t need that much extra representation.

Almost everything out there is already made for us.

TL;DR:

The Little Mermaid is entirely fictional and set in fairy tale-land. There's very little uniquely Danish about it, and even if there was, there were black people in Denmark at the time.

Mulan is a legend that could well be drawing on some real person or people. It is specifically set in China, during a period when the Chinese people were quite homogeneous.

If you're honestly uncomfortable with the little mermaid being black, you should probably just take a long look at yourself to examine the reasons why that might be.

And if you can't understand why Mulan has to be Chinese, well... then you're just being willfully obtuse and racist.

Although I don’t follow Downton Abbey, I have read that we have it to thank for there being a Victoria, so it’s got my respect (plus it was this generation’s Upstairs, Downstairs). PBS has just announced that a motion picture based on the series is about to enter production.

I think this might be the first time, or one of the only times, that a PBS Masterpiece series has spawned a theatrical film (not counting theatrical releases of special episodes, like Victoria’s debut or the Sherlock Christmas special). I hope it does well because it might set precedent that could lead to more Masterpiece-based theatrical films, such as ones based on Sherlock or, you know, Victoria.

Be kind, Rewind

It’s been about a week since I started getting verbally harassed by an art thief on instagram. Although the suggestion to “shove a dick up [my] ass and die in a pit” sounds like a pretty adventurous way to spend an evening, I decided to instead reflect a bit about copyright infringement online, creative growth, and how to think about both in a mindful and productive way.

First, some context.

Last week I got a message from another artist on instagram telling me about someone who used my art in a competition and won second place. Feeling bad for the other artist (who had entered in the competition as well), I notified the contest’s account. They silently removed the post announcing the winners, and I immediately received a message from the art thief, whom I shall henceforth be calling “Rachel”:

I reported Rachel’s post featuring my work, had to answer a few questions from instagram’s review commission, and the post was removed. Hurray, goodness prevails! Until… enter: Rachel’s second account, which I will be calling Regina. Without as many followers as Rachel to disturb, Regina felt perhaps less constrained by things like civility or blood pressure to unleash the full torrent of badfeels:

In some form of self-inflicted reverse-psychology, Regina continued with explicit reposts of my more recent gallery, verbally abusive descriptions and comments, and even threats about the kinds of things Rachel’s followers could do to me if I continued to report.

I’ve filed 3 reports so far, although each time something is taken down, new violations appear. I’m working with instagram to see if there could be a more sustainable way, e.g. suspension/ban, but I don’t expect much.

This story is painfully familiar yet so unfair. Just take a look at “For Exposure” if you want to laugh and cry at the same time. I’ve read way too many posts about instances where the theft is maybe not so verbally abusive and insane, but all the more commercially hurtful, for instance when an artist finds their work printed and sold on an ugly mug in China.

I read Brett Bean’s commentary on the matter, and wholly agree that at the end of the day, “time is the most precious commodity and I don’t plan on wasting it worrying about a few poopy butts…”. To this I would like to add the following:

If you’re one of those poopy butts using some artist’s work to get likes because it feels nice to be praised, know that it feels even better to be praised for something that you made from scratch! Time is a precious commodity indeed, and for every artist whose art you deem impressive enough to steal, buckets of this strange currency have been spent learning how to do it. Time that could’ve been spent doing a variety of other cool activities, like eating pistachio-rum-raisin ice cream on a date, skateboarding on an empty road at sunset, seeing the worst movie with friends…

What I’m trying to say, Rachel, is that effort is great because it makes the reward greater. The fact you deemed my art good enough to enter it in a competition, means you recognize the work that went into it and have a discerning eye for what makes one image better than the next. I would encourage you to use and develop this critical eye by training your hand to reproduce what you see, and then becoming better than what you see. You do this, and I promise you the experience of honest accomplishment will be worth the sacrifice.

So next time you’re asked to take down a stolen picture, think of it as a compliment. “Thank you for seeing and appreciating my work! This is just not the right way to show it.” It might feel bad at first, sure, but instead of lashing out like a crazy person: be kind, rewind. Take a second to reflect, put on a nice track to ease back into good human mode. Something like this!

Remember that movie? “Be Kind, Rewind” with Jack Black and Yasiin Bey playing Jerry & Mike who run a videorental store when all their videotapes get destroyed. They decide to remake all their favorite movies into hilarious amateur versions and end up attracting a larger fan-base than the rental store with the original movies ever did. All art starts as imitation – it’s up to you whether you want to be the fun or poopy kind. Be the fun kind, be like Jerry & Mike.

Important Announcement

I’ve thought about this a lot but I think I’ll be remaking this blog on a new account, I’ll be doing this for a few reasons:  1) I’m a busy gal and honestly I never reblog a photo from the same source more than once so I’ve kinda caught up to most of the usuk I can find on tumblr lol, not all of it but some days it’s really hard to find things I haven’t already rebloged, it’s a silly rule but one I follow because it gives all artists an equal platform on my blog and also keeps my blog running a bit more smooth  2) I love usuk but I’m really tired of this being my main blog, I actually do have a personal blog and I would love for that to be my main blog, so when I remake my account I will also be remaking that blog as my main blog  3) In about 2012 when I made this blog is was acceptable to reblog work with a source but with no permission from the artist and so I have thousands and thousands of pages on this blog of reposted art with no permission. I would like to start fresh without all that weight weighing me down.  4) I have a few more reasons but these are the main ones and really all the ones you need to know When I make the new blog it will still be called usukisses and it will still be an all usuk blog, only this time it’ll be a side blog, so if i follow you now and not on the new blog don’t worry I’ll just be under a new name. I’m itching for a fresh start and I've already started setting the new account up. I won’t be switching blogs today but in the near future so this is just a warning. I would also like to tell you all that I will still leave this blog up, so while you don’t have to follow, it will soon become inactive. I will be transferring many of my other side blogs though so they will stay active as if nothing ever happened. Diablo 2 Resurrected will have the right to a revised and corrected version. Blizzard wants to give you a facelift to its legendary hack and also, slash this year. Release date, platforms, price, we tell you everything there is to know about this new title.

Diablo 2 Resurrected is hands down to the most anticipated titles of the year. From the moment it was announced at Blizzcon in February, it sparked enthusiasm. It is true that the presentation video is very envious. It is the studio Vicarious Vision, which has already worked on the remake of Tony Hawks, which is at work here. This is not a remake, nor a simple graphic remaster. In reality, it sits a bit in between. It will be possible to enjoy the original experience, but with a serious technical upgrade. It seems a little vague, like that, but we explain everything to you in this file.

Blizzard does not intend to repeat the mistakes of the past, especially with the remaster of Warcraft 3 which had not really convinced fans. That's why Diablo 2 Resurrected will likely be more polished, which raises expectations even more. In addition, the first opinions of journalists who were able to play there are rave. Confidence is therefore essential.

Of course, new information could appear over time and we will modify this file accordingly. It is therefore required to evolve.

WHAT IS DIABLO 2?

In 1997, the Blizzard North studio released the first Diablo, a dark and gothic hack and slash that quickly enjoyed phenomenal popularity. The goal? Choose a hero and descend to the depths of the Catacombs of Tristram to face the terrible Diablo, the Lord of Terror.

Of course, it is Faced with such a success. Blizzard starts working on a sequel and soberly named Diablo 2. Also, it was released in 2000 and improved its first game in every way. The gameplay was enriched, the universe expanded, the environments varied, in short. , it is a total success. In 2001, the game will welcome an expansion: Lord of Destruction. Diablo 2 made an impression, so much so that it is considered the best hack and slash in history. Since then, Blizzard released Diablo 3 in 2012, then its Reaper of Souls expansion in 2014, but the latter has never been able to replace the second episode in the hearts of gamers.

This is why the studio has decided to give it a second life with this Resurrected version. It will offer what made the success of the original title, but by starting from scratch the graphic part. We will see this more closely a little further.

WHEN IS DIABLO 2 RESURRECTED RELEASED?

Diablo 2 Resurrected is released on September 23, 2021. The date was formalized by Blizzard during E3 2021. An open beta (no waiting line or sponsorship, anyone can access it) will also be released in August, a few weeks before the game's release. The exact release date of this beta has not yet been communicated.

Blizzard has indeed launched its first technical alpha for handpicked players. In any case, this is the usual process. The bets are therefore open, but for our part, we see it coming out around the start of the school year.

ON WHICH PLATFORMS IS DIABLO 2 RESURRECTED RELEASED AND AT WHAT PRICE?

Diablo 2 Resurrected 2 will be released on pretty much all current platforms. It will be on PC, but also on consoles: Xbox One, Xbox Series X / S, PS4, and PS5. If you are the nomadic type, know that it will also be released on Nintendo Switch.

If the game is basically designed for the keyboard/mouse combo, the gameplay with the joystick is quite suitable, even more, enjoyable in certain respects. Diablo 3, for example, has been successfully released on consoles, Switch included! Very interestingly, the progress will be linked to your Blizzard account: you start a game on PC and you can resume it on Switch without a problem.

At the moment, we only have the price of the PC version: 39.99 euros, but it should not differ much on other platforms. A Prime Evil version also, includes Diablo 3 and all its content, which will also be marketed at 59.99 euros.

WHAT WILL BE THE CHANGES?

We were telling you earlier that Diablo 2 Resurrected was halfway between the remake and the remaster and it's time to explain why. You should know that this new version will be almost the same as the one released in 2000. The gameplay, still effective, hardly changes one iota. Almost, because very rare modifications have been made for more comfort, such as a larger bag or reworked menus.

However, the game has nothing to do with it graphically. In fact, Vicarious Visions started from scratch to offer us a redesigned visual aspect and a reinvention that wants to be faithful to the original title. Diablo 2 Resurrected is the old game you have known in a new setting. It will be possible to play in 4K and 144 FPS. And even on your 21: 9 screen on a PC. Isn't life beautiful?

The studio had a good idea to let you switch from new graphics to old ones instantly with the touch of a button. This allows you to see the work accomplished and to see that apart from the visual, nothing has changed in the arrangement of the sets and in the atmosphere. Note that this new title will be so faithful to the original that it will even be possible to use its old backup to continue a character! Important clarification: Diablo 2 Resurrected will include the content of the base game as well as its Lord of Destruction expansion.

In short, a visual revolution, but a faithful game, this is the philosophy of Diablo 2 Resurrected.

WHAT FUTURE FOR THE DIABLO FRANCHISE?

Diablo will come back in force in the coming years. Indeed, Diablo 2 Resurrected is just one of three expected games set in the universe of Sanctuary.

Diablo Immortal: better known for having created a bad buzz during Blizzcon 2018 than for its video game qualities, Diablo Immortal is always well planned. This is a mobile game that will be placed chronologically between Diablo 2 and Diablo 3. Blizzard here wanted to transcribe the gameplay of the third part on our phones and bring it an MMORPG aspect. At the moment, Diablo Immortal does not have a specific release date, but Blizzard has indicated that it will be available during the year 2021.

Diablo 4: the fourth installment was presented with great fanfare at Blizzcon 2019 via a breathtaking video.

Since then, it has been discreet, even if we had the right to the presentation of a new character, the thief, during Blizzcon 2021, as well as some gameplay sequences. Diablo 4 wants to reconnect with the atmosphere of the second episode while wanting to be more modern in its gameplay. Thus, we will probably find the nervousness of the third part in the fights as well as the presence of an open world. As for the release date, Blizzard has announced that it is taking its time. It will not be marketed in 2021. In fact, it can come out in 2022.
