Here's a fun project I was commissioned for recently: The owner of this authentic Haruka cel requested a replica of the companion Michiru cel as well as a watercolor background to display both with. It felt like a collab with an official SM artist. 🥺💖 I can't wait to see how they look together!
P.S. I'm opening a limited number of replica cels here.

Ariel for the ask game!
Ariel: What is your favorite possession?
I have so many items that I treasure!! A production cel from Sleeping Beauty, a handwritten letter from Joan Crawford and from Mary Costa, a demo vinyl Ilene Woods recorded that no one else has, a lace embroidery my grandmother made by hand and a cup she gave me (sentimental story), personal correspondence Helene Stanley held with her boyfriend at the time Cinderella came out, Adriana Caselotti home movies, a master replica of the glass slipper, an Olszewski box, and that's not even the digital gifts I have that I think of often- seriously way too many things to list. I also moved recently and the things I love most have been wrapped up safely for months, and still are until I have a place to display them, so there are many things I'm forgetting/not listing.

Film Journal #1: Steamboat Willie
Steamboat Willie (1928)
The 1920's truly was the golden age of animation, the birth of Mickey Mouse and his monumental first ever film debut began in Steamboat Willie (1928) directed by Walt Disney and Ub Werks. It was the first feature to be released with synchronized sound, it put the previous soundless animations all into dust when comparing. It started a new era of animated film - breaking Walt off from his rival studios and putting a big spotlight on his own name.
The film doesn't really have too linear of a plot, it essentially is Mickey going on a ship and playing animals as his instruments - creating a festival of sound and definitely...some interesting visuals! (choked geese included). Mickey's girlfriend Minnie is also included in this film, aiding him in creating the symphony of music on board the boat.
Audiences truly were stunned by the film when watching it for the first time in theaters. Sound revolutionized the game, and it had folks going haywire wanting more. It was so successful that it even had a rerun in one of the largest theaters The Roxy, which resides in the big apple, New York.
It was hand drawn on with paper, celluloids (transpararent sheets), and ink. "Characters were drawn on cels and superimposed on a fixed background image to reduce the number of reproductions necessary to produce an animation."
I genuinely really enjoyed the animation, I thought it was really fun and extremely well made! Even for its time, this was fantastical to see, the elements of sound and visuals blended perfectly. Also, seeing Mickey in his first film was super entertaining and interesting, seeing the subtle changes to his new evolved form. As well as finally seeing the intro to all the Disney movie's where they use the little whistling tune as an homage. Even for its time, I can't even imagine how they could fathom to create such a flowy, smooth film! I also just really enjoy the 1920's animation style in general. I think it mainly came from the aesthetic style I loved from the game Bendy and the Ink Machine, obviously it being heavily inspired from Disney's.

Thomas Kinkade's work is the most unimpressive, saccharine, mass produced garbage. It is technically-proficient mass-marketed drivel, and for some reason is popular enough to have a permanent storefront in whatever the hell Downtown Disney is being called now.
There is a fairly large art gallery/store in Downtown Disney in Orlando that has a fairly large storefront that has a ton of prints and art of all these fairly interesting versions of licensed Disney artwork, as well as original/replica animation cels, and sculptures. Like, it's still corporate bullshit, but at least it's visually interesting and the artists get to have a little fun with some of this stuff.
A few shots from what I'm talking about:
It was usually pretty fun to go into The Art of Disney with a bit of time to kill and seeing some kinda neat things by a ton of different artists, including live demos by former animators, but then you walk a little too far and suddenly you're in Kincadeland, a place where creativity ceases.
Things people who only like weird bad modern art say. This is about thomas kinkade btw. Modern art consoomer types HATE him with vitriol
These are his paintings. Absolutely beautiful and stunning. These people think its Low Brow.
Just bc u have a degree does not mean u know art… if all art school taught u was that a rothko is somehow more artistically valid than any of these beautiful paintings….. you would easily join scientology.

Exploring the Timeless Craft of Traditional Hand-Drawn Animation
In the ever-evolving landscape of animation, one enduring art form continues to captivate audiences with its charm, craftsmanship, and nostalgic allure: traditional hand-drawn animation. This classic technique, also known as 2D animation, holds a revered place in the history of visual storytelling, characterized by its painstaking frame-by-frame creation and artistic prowess.
Understanding Traditional Hand-Drawn Animation,
Traditional hand-drawn animation involves crafting each frame of the animation sequence by hand. Artists meticulously sketch keyframes, creating the illusion of movement through a series of drawings that are then photographed or digitally compiled to create motion. This method demands immense skill, patience, and artistry, as animators breathe life into characters and scenes through their drawings.
Famous Examples:
1. Disney Classics
"Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" (1937): Considered the first full-length cel-animated feature film, this Disney masterpiece marked a significant milestone in animation history.
"The Lion King" (1994): Combining traditional animation with some innovative techniques, this film remains a classic example of the beauty and emotional depth achievable through hand-drawn animation.
2. Studio Ghibli Films
"My Neighbor Totoro" (1988): Renowned for its enchanting hand-drawn visuals, Studio Ghibli's works, including this film, showcase the magical essence of traditional animation.
"Spirited Away" (2001): A mesmerizing blend of traditional hand-drawn animation and modern technology, winning an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature.
3. Warner Bros. Cartoons
"Looney Tunes" Series: Timeless characters like Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, and Porky Pig came to life through the brilliance of hand-drawn animation, entertaining audiences for generations.
How It Differs from Other Types of Animation
Computer-Generated Animation (CGI):
Process: Traditional hand-drawn animation involves manual frame-by-frame creation, while CGI relies on computer software to generate images and motion.
Aesthetic: Hand-drawn animation often boasts a more organic and stylized look, with imperfections adding to its charm, whereas CGI tends to offer polished and realistic visuals.
The uncanny valley effect: The Uncanny Valley Effect is a peculiar phenomenon in the realm of animation and robotics, where the closer a human replica—be it digital or mechanical—resembles a real person, the more unsettling it becomes to human observers. This discomfort stems from subtle discrepancies between the replica and a genuine human, leading to an eerie, uncanny sensation. In the 2001 movie "The Mummy Returns," CGI technology was used to attempt to recreate a youthful Dwayne Johnson in his role as the Scorpion King. While ground-breaking for its time, the CGI representation of Johnson's character fell into the depths of the Uncanny Valley. Despite the impressive strides in computer-generated imagery, the digital incarnation of Johnson's character lacked the authenticity necessary to bridge the gap between a lifelike portrayal and an artificial creation.
2. Stop Motion Animation
Process: Stop motion involves physically manipulating real-world objects and photographing them frame by frame to create motion.
Tangible vs. Illustrative: Unlike the drawn nature of hand-drawn animation, stop motion relies on physical objects and puppets for animation.
Range of motion: The range of motion in stop-motion can be limited by the physical constraints of the models or puppets. Animators must work within the confines of these physical objects, which can restrict the complexity and range of movements they can achieve. traditionally hand-drawn animation allows for a much broader range of motion. Animators drawing each frame have the freedom to create movements that are not limited by physical constraints, this flexibility enables a wider range of expressions, gestures, and movements, allowing for more intricate and detailed animations. Hand-drawn animation offers greater fluidity and versatility in depicting a character's actions and emotions compared to stop-motion animation.
The Timeless Appeal of Hand-Drawn Animation
Despite advancements in technology, traditional hand-drawn animation continues to hold a special place in the hearts of audiences and creators alike. Its unique warmth, artistic style, and human touch evoke emotions and create immersive storytelling experiences that resonate across generations.
In a rapidly evolving animation landscape, traditional hand-drawn animation stands as a testament to the enduring power of artistry and creativity, showcasing the beauty of bringing drawings to life, frame by frame.
Whether through the enchanting worlds of Disney classics or the imaginative realms of Studio Ghibli, the legacy of traditional hand-drawn animation remains an integral part of cinematic history, weaving stories that continue to inspire and delight audiences worldwide.

things i'd animate if hadn't halted the honing my visual art skills for like 10 yrs: animated to the RQG intro music: bertie highlighted on trumpet sound, standing on a hill glowing gold with his sword outstretched but then makes surprised face and grabs at his neck and falls over backward, as he is falling hamid appears from out of frame at the corner and waves to him and then turns away as bertie falls over dead, simultaneously as he falls brutor jumps out of his puppouse and runs off.
fast pan over following hamid to sideview shot of him, sasha, and zolf walking in a single-file line with the camera tracking them. zolf is at the front of the line until he drops his trident and trips over it and falls on his face. hamid and sasha hop over him (sasha starts looking a little green and hunched over at this point) and then grizzop walks into frame, stepping on zolf to follow hamid and sasha at the back, shortly after zolf is out of frame azu walks into frame. the four of them are walking during which sasha goes back to normal right before she turns around suddenly and runs back, disappearing out of frame. as she’s running by grizzop looks back after her and trips on a tiny replica of rome and falls on his face, zolf steps back in (on grizzop, vengeance) and back into line behind azu who’s moved up directly behind hamid at the front. before grizzop goes out of frame he glows green and ascends upward. cel steps in line behind post-time-skip zolf. hamid, azu, zolf, and cel walk on in that order until it ends.
the whole time hamid’s clothes are changing periodically and he’s gaining scales/dragon bits.
#i used to making decent length animations things of dogs doing stuff like chasing tail or pouncing a ball#nothing more than gifs#no video length anything#but if i'd kept practicing over those years instead of abandoning it#I COULD HAVE DONE THIS#maybe who knows we never will#instead it's just what i see in my head at the beginning and end of every episode

Replica Turnului Eifell, Slobozia.

Photo
[Image ID: Four photos of an RQG inspired outfit, the first three taken outside in the snow, the last taken against a black background.
Image 1: A person is standing out in a snowy backyard that has many tall pine trees, with bits of green grass peeking out in some places. There is a red and white shed a little ways behind them. She has short brown hair that has blond highlights in it, and is wearing black and gold semi-rimless glasses and a dark red matte lipstick. They are wearing a white shirtwaist, a patterned waistcoat, and a long skirt with the same pattern as the waistcoat. The pattern of the waistcoat and skirt is thin black and white houndstooth stripes forming a large checked pattern. Within those checks are two intersecting single red lines that form their own checked pattern atop it. The shirtwaist has a high collar and buttons up the front, with billowy sleeves that are fitted on the forearms. The waistcoat is closely fitted to the wearer, the bottom ending slightly below the waist and narrowing down into a point in the front. It has two pockets on the front of it, each with a small button in the middle. There is a watch chain draping from the right pocket to the middle button in the center front. The skirt is long and ends at the wearer’s ankles. It is fitted in the waist but flares out slightly at the bottom, which is lined with a black bias tape. There are two rows of buttons along each seam line in the front of the skirt that end about 10 inches below the waistband, with five buttons on each side. Each button on both the waistcoat and the skirt is different, but each is shiny or metallic in some way.
Image 2: A view of the outfit from the back. The waistcoat is in two points, with a seam along the back, and the back of the skirt is knife pleated from both sides to come together in the middle. One of the wearer’s arms is out to the side, with the other one leaning up.
Image 3: Another front view of the outfit, this time the wearer has her hands clasped in front of them and leaning more on one foot than the other. Her boots are more visible, which are dark brown and wet from the snow.
Image 4: A close-up photo of the waistcoat. It has two darts on either side, one ending under the bust and the other, closer to the center, ending over the bust. The small pockets each have their own buttons in the center of them, the left bronze with a flower design on it, the right black with a small rounded white stone in the middle. The buttonholes are black and handsewn. Each of the seven main buttons are different, and top to bottom they are: A gold button in the shape of a clam A black button with a rim of shiny silver A pale gold button with thin, slightly uneven, vertical lines on it A black button with a gold rim and a design in the middle with laurels around three small crowns, and a crown atop the laurels A white button with a matte silver center rimmed with shiny silver A black button with a circling bronze pattern around the edges reminiscent of vines or tentacles A black button with a pattern in the middle that’s brass and looks woven like a basket or something similar

MAN am i so excited to show this to y’all!! I don’t do much cosplay, but I am a sewist, and I love making historical garments, so when I was given the option to make clothes for LOLOMG, I knew imdiately what I was going to do. This outfit is based off of 1890’s women’s clothes, with a shirt with many pin tucks, a tailored waistcoat, and a full-length walking skirt. However, I took some minor creative liberties when constructing it. Mainly, the 22 different metallic across the whole thing. I want to specifically draw attention to the buttons on the waistcoat, as each of them represent a PC from RQG. From top to bottom: A clam shell for Azu, for the Heart of Aphrodite replica she wears The simple black for Sasha, with a glint like that of a dagger flying out of the shadows The bright metal for Cel and their unique technical know-how, with lines reminiscent to the many wires they’re known to work with The crowns for Bertie and his noble status and his affinity for gold The silver for Grizzop, with the white of the celestial plane where he hunts The rope-like bronze for Zolf, with patterns that almost resemble the tentacles of a kraken And brass for Hamid, with a woven pattern like that of his born connection to the Weave

I scrolled through your asks and read a Cinderella related one when you say she has hair lighter than Aurora’s. Can you provide some proof? I find it hard to believe.
Cinderella's perception of strawberry blonde hair is due to the first VHS edition, which was extremely reddish, everything was reddish, but it built somehow that urban legend when late digital restorations recovered a more blonde tone on her hair and it was strange for people to see. But if you check most of vintage products of Cinderella she's very very blonde everywhere. So our point of view is because the way the old production cels replicas look with thr passing time. Cinderella's hair is very very greenish, which suggests a very ash blonde, definitely far from a warm strawberry one.
And then we have Aurora, who everyone knows that possesses ash blonde as well, but Sleeping beauty color palette is way more dark than Cinderella's.
Also there's the important detail that Aurora has her hair defined in bright lines to create that "sunshine gold" effect, which requires her base color to be dark to work. The whole thing creates a highlights effect so the hair looks brighter than what it really is. Meanwhile Cinderella's hair was probably lighter than Aurora's but her definition lines are dark brown.
Cinderella's hair as a little girl was also very light blonde without a doubt, so after a couple of decades with so many people from the VHS generation thinking that her hair was more reddish, Disney seems to have chosen to modify completely her color in the digital restorations and just leave her with a more strawberry hair like many people think she had. 🤷♂️

RQG 188 SPOILERS AHEAD
moments we could’ve had with visualisation of this episode.
Zolf, in a dark, cramped and closed tunnel space, in some parts decrepit, in many ways remniscent of Paris’ catacombs, in others of London sewers, and in some – smoothed out and even darker paths of Shoin’s dungeons. only when he turns to hear the voice of his brother, the scene as the camera pans from one side to the other, changes to the mining tunnels he spent some of his youth in.
Cel, speaking questions out loud into the existence as they walk, carefully stepping over skeletal bodies, spinning as they try to reason out what is happening, and, as they ask for more clues, the spinning camera finally settles right over their shoulder as the focus brings out the paper flapping from under a skeleton slumped over a table, which most probably wasn’t there before.
Hamid, blinking up at the stage, hand over his eyes as he protects them from the spotlight, and mannequins in their seats framing him, impassive, alike the most uninterested public. but when Aziza calls to him, to make him go up to stage with her… when the camera switches to Hamid again, jaw tight and lips thin, he's framed by mannequins ALL looking at him, as if in rapt attention.
Azu, holding her free hand close to where the replica of Heart of Aphrodite is, feeling so strange in the world that feels vast and desolated… and as she walks up to the building in front of her, immediately recognisable ruins of the portal chamber in Rome, she notices the figure, squinting at it, and at first, it’s not recognisable, grey and without character to it. only when Azu takes a sharp breath, the ears on the figure pop up, and Grizzop cocks his hip as he glares at Azu, bow drawn, his whole demeanor different from we last saw him in his afterlife.

Thank you so much to @kimabutch for the song rec! ‘Pluto’ by Sleeping at Last really has some very big Azu vibes
[id: a 4 page digitally drawn comic of Azu from Rusty Quill Gaming. Azu is a black orcish woman with short hair, a scar over one eye, and a chipped tusk.
Page 1: In the first panel, Azu is sitting cross-legged and looking down at her hands, where a faint golden glow is emanating. She is wearing casual sleep clothes of a tank top and gray pants. The next panel is focused on her hands, which are holding a miniature golden clam shell necklace replica of the Heart of Aphrodite. Sasha and Grizzop are blurry in the background. Her hands are closed and blurry in the next panel, with Sasha and Grizzop in focus. Sasha is shown from her crossed arms to her knees, and she is wearing a leather jacket and dark pants. Grizzop is shown from his chin to the bottom of his torso and is wearing a coat and a breastplate with the symbol of Artemis. The final panel shows Azu adjusting one of the straps holding her bright pink armor to her forearm. The text reads “I woke up from the same dream/Falling backwards/Falling backwards/’Til it turned me inside out”.
Page 2: The top two panels mirror each other and are trapezoids, leaving a triangular space above and between them with the words “Still I’m pinned under the weight”. In the first, a young Azu wearing tan robes stands with hands clasped in awe as she looks up at a large version of the Venus de Milo. In the second panel, she is kneeling before the same statue, wearing her pink armor and resting her battle-ax on the floor. The final panel shows Azu fallen to her knees in the ruins of Rome with the words “of what I believed would keep me safe” surrounding her.
Page 3: The first panel shows Azu facing off against Shoin’s mecha, a gigantic wood and metal robot with glowing green tubes of goo. Azu is seen from behind and has her ax raised. The next panel is a closeup of her face, eyes narrowed in concentration. The third panel is a closeup of her hands, tight around the grip of her ax. The final panel shows the LOLOMG, as well as Barnes and Carter, relaxing in quarantine. Barnes, a human man with tan skin and dark hair tied back , lounges on the stairs with his shirt open. Carter, a pale human man with brown hair, is curled up asleep. Cel, a pale half-elf, is hanging upside down from their hammock and reaching out a bottle to cheers with Azu and Zolf, who both have bottles outstretched as well. Zolf is a tanned dwarf man with white hair and metal legs from the knees down. Hamid is a brown halfling man who is curled into Azu, who has an arm around his shoulder. The words “Show me where my armor ends/Show me where my skin begins” are written throughout the page.
Page 4: The top two panels are trapezoids that leave a triangular space below and between them. The first panel shows Azu’s hand with a lined rose tattoo, lighting a candle with a match, and has the words “I rebuild when”. The second panel shows her placing that candle on a ledge before her and has the words “I break down”. The bottom panel shows her from behind, kneeling before a wall of candles in the temple of Aphrodite with the words “I wake up more awake than I’ve ever been”. /end id]
