Once again, Eddie was seated in a room full of people who were about to discuss things he was not equipped to handle. His right knee bounced up and down as his gaze flitted from face to face. Agent Stinson was a severe looking woman in a navy blue pants suit, she stood at one end of Dustin’s living room, flanked by two more suits standing with their hands clasped in front of them, their faces were generic and easily forgettable. Chief Powell and Officer Callahan stood just inside the front door, Callahan was practically glaring at Eddie, his hand way too near to the butt of his service revolver. Eddie was seated on one of the kitchen chairs that had been brought in, with Wayne and Hopper standing on each side of him protectively. The rest of the crew were scattered around on the couch and floor, everyone waiting with bated breath.
“Jim, you think we could get this moving?” Powell began, “I have a lot of questions, first of which is about why I don’t have Eddie Munson in cuffs yet.”
“Because he didn’t do anything,” Hopper replied quietly, “And you know that. We’re waiting on one more person to get here. Agent Stinson?”
“We confirmed his plane landed and he’s on his way, should be any minute now,” the agent nodded at Eddie, “And Chief Hopper is right, the Munson boy isn’t responsible for the girl’s death or any of the others.”
“Then he’s a material witness, and we need to question him!” Officer Callahan butted in, Powell held a hand out to calm him down as another car pulled up in front of the house. This one a nondescript beige sedan that screamed “rental car”.
El stood up from the floor and turned to look out the window as a middle aged man with curly salt and pepper hair climbed out of the driver’s side of the car looking like he’d seen better days. She rushed out the door, bowling through the two police officers, and down the driveway to meet the newcomer with a hug. The new guy patted her back and walked her back up to the house, she looked on the verge of tears as they rejoined the group.
“Looks like I’m not the only one back from the dead,” the newcomer exclaimed as he walked into the house, Eleven tucked under his arm, “Good to see you again Jim.”
“Good to see you too Doc,” Hopper moved to shake his hand, “Are you up to this?”
“Oh yeah, me? I’m fine, looks worse than it is,” he waved Jim off and let El lead him to a spot on the couch vacated by Jonathan, “You should see the other guy.”
“This is Doctor Sam Owens,” Jim introduced the other man to the group, “He was in charge of Hawkins Lab just before it was shut down, and he’s the one who helped El get her powers back.”
“Well, myself and a team of scientists,” Doc demurred, “Looks like our timing on this one has been pretty bad. Has Agent Stinson briefed you on the situation Chief Powell?”
“I have a feeling she left out more than a few things, but yeah,” Powell nodded, “I’ve got the jist of it. The girl we thought was a Russian spy is in fact a powerful psychic bred by the government who accidentally opened a portal to a hell dimension and one of your former subjects got sucked into it and became some sort of supervillain who’s been terrorizing and murdering the kids in my community. That about sum things up?”
