Fortnite OG.

This is probably one of the most successful nostalgia fueled campaigns pulled off. Like ever. There's a company out there scrambling, trying to figure out how to recreate this.

This season brought players, and the world- back to the island of Chapter 1 Season 5. When Fortnite was at it's 2nd peak of popularity. It was pretty cool to go back to the island. Everyone from that time had their own memories associated with the first Fortnite island. And it was fun to revisit them. The gameplay trailer even used the song first used in fortnite's initial trailer. The message to the world was clear.

Where We Droppin'?

The season worked like this: every week, we would rotate through the loot pool of seasons from chapter 1. It was pretty fast paced. Each season would be introduced through these well edited trailers using popular songs from the days of OG Fortnite letting everybody know what's up.

Since this season was only a month, the battle pass was smaller. Only including 4 characters. My favorites from the pass were Spectra Knight and Renegade Lynx. They're fusions of previous, popular characters from the past. Spectra Knight was fully customizable, and Renegade Lynx had this FIRE well, fire alt.

Why are we doing this? For lore reasons, slone made Jones go back with the time machine to get something. or someone? Regardless, through some funny environmental storytelling, he did it.

Honestly? This was more of a movement than a Fortnite season. EVERYONE came back for one last hurrah. it was insane to see. retired competitive players, celebrities, older streamers, old friends, everyone came back to play Fortnite. Epic Games saw INSANE levels of success from this, even surpassing fortnite's first peak. 44 million players after release. I remember being stuck in queue with my friends.

Speaking of queue, this season actually had the first live event of chapter 4. It's been a while. Millions of people, also showed up for this one. The queue times were criminal. This event was basically an ad for Fortnite's future. We're a metaverse now. Games inside games, alongside battle royale and creative. It was fun just being there for the excitement that was around. This is the stuff about videogames that i love.

Fortnite OG brought back a lot of players, and some new ones. Ever since this happened, i've met kids, dads, moms, college students, everyone's playing Fortnite now! It's cool to like Fortnite again. Cool that i got a year's worth of a heads start.
