Seriously though; my heart were pounding as I saw her making her Checkered Past debut... (tweet here)

I think that I became subconsciously attracted to her in the Spring of 2009 with a rerun of the Chris Reccardi-boarded "Substitute Creature", but this year's Checkered Past debut of "Detention X" made her instant waifu to me (and—spoiler alert—she almost legit died in that one). Thanks @maxwellatoms for creating one of the loveliest dolls in the history of Cartoon Network originals! (and the same to @ianwasseluk @brettvaron @vincentwaller and the rest of the crew)

An entire series of behind the scenes with the cast and crew of The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy AKA Grim & Evil... this would be really something to air on Cartoon Network or Checkered Past!

They left me no choice.

The animation industry is an absolute trash fire right now, and TBH... I don't think it's going to recover. Not in a form I recognize, anyway.

I could go on all day about the self-hating monster that is the Animation Business, but I've said it all before. Right now, none of the major studios are making much of anything, and almost all of what they are making is "library content". I'm currently doing storyboard revisions alongside a number of other former producers and directors, and I'm lucky to have the work. Once all of the mismanagement and the mergers get sorted, though, there should be plenty of room for more mismanagement and mergers. And the A.I. Don't forget the A.I.

It seems that I either give myself over fully to the souring corporate teat in the hopes that I can pretend that I still live in a world where "the grind" matters. Or I take a risk and make one big push to do... something.

First up:

Billy & Mandy vs. The Entertainment Industry:

This is my interview/reality/documentary show on the making of The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy from stem to stern. I'll be talking to as many people as I can who worked on the show about all sorts of different parts of the process. We'll definitely get to voice actors, but the first segment is probably going to be about Billy & Mandy's pre-history and the Big Pick Weekend.

The Upward Expedition:

This is my pick for my indie show. I have a bible. I have a decade of ideas. Time to sit down and tell a story. I want to get some screen sharing going at some point. I'll definitely share artwork as well as the trials and tribulations of getting from There to Back Again.

I'd love to get a Discord server going and provide a place where people can talk about the stuff I'm making (and the entertainment industry in general). I still have enough Billy & Mandy swag left that I'm sure I'll factor that stuff in as well.

In the immediate future, the funding goes to securing a space to do the interviews and probably to banking money for voice actors. I'm still deciding on my update schedule, but it should start in earnest next week.

I'm excited. Pretty scared... but also excited.

The True Story of a Boy Wizard, His Fans, and Life Inside the Harry Potter Phenomenon

Let’s be honest, I looked at this book because the title caught my eye. Sadly, it wasn’t the true story of Harry Styles but of another, equally famous Harry. That fandom isn’t unlike stories I’ve heard of the 1D fandom. I knew who they were but it was MITAM that sucked me down the rabbit hole of Dodgeball and Carpool Karaoke and endless videos of X Factor and 1D Day. The Potter fandom has ships, leaks and squabbles. It’s an interesting look at the overwhelming nature of fame. Not unlike the boys, the fervor for the books eventually prevented the author from participating in certain events over concerns for fan safety. Fan fiction and ships were prevalent as well as websites, fan forums, tribute bands and podcasts. It was interesting to hear it all told from an insider’s perspective and I’d love for someone (a fan who understands fandoms, not a snarky journalist who doesn’t take the time to learn and who calls all One Direction fans 10 ye old girls) to write a book about the 1D phenomenon. This was a fascinating book and if you love Harry Potter or fandoms give it a try.
