Hyundai Santro

Hyundai’s hatchback car is considered good in terms of Santro mileage. The Hyundai Santro has a 1.1-liter, 4-cylinder petrol engine. This engine of Santro generates power of 68 bhp and torque of 99 Nm. Talking about the mileage of the car, the Hyundai Santro gives a mileage of 20.3 km per liter. The ex-showroom price of the car starts at Rs 3.90 lakh.

Maruti Suzuki WagonR

The Maruti Suzuki Wagon R gets the BS6 fuel emission standard engine. It has a 1.2 liter petrol engine with 5-speed manual and AMT gearbox option. The company has also recently updated the 1.0 liter engine with the BS6 engine. At the same time, talking about its mileage, its petrol MT (1.0L) variant gives 21.79 kmpl, petrol AGS (1.0L) variant 21.79 kmpl and petrol AGS (1.2L) variant gives 20.52 kmpl. Maruti Suzuki WagonR ex-showroom price in Delhi starts at Rs. 4.34 lakhs.

Maruti Suzuki Alto 800

Maruti Suzuki has already launched the Alto 800 with BS6 fuel emission standards. It has a 796 cc petrol engine, which generates 48 hp power and 69 Nm torque. Also, this car gets all the safety features like ABS with EBD. It includes airbags on the driver side, rear parking sensors, seat belt reminder system for the driver and co-driver, speed alert system. Talking about the mileage of this car, it gives mileage of 22.05 kilometers per liter. Delhi starts its ex-showroom price at Rs 2.93 lakh.

Renault Kwid Facelift

The French multinational automobile company Renault has introduced its Kwid Facelift in the Indian market in 2 variants – 0.8 liter and 1.0 liter engines. The 0.8 liter engine generates 54 bhp of power and 72 Nm of torque. At the same time, the 1.0 liter engine produces 67 bhp power and 91 Nm torque. The Renault Kwid Facelift car gives a mileage of 25.17 kmpl. The ex-showroom price of this car starts at Rs. 2.83 lakhs.

Introduction

It has been half a decade since the Kwid was launched and for many years it has been the backbone for Renault in India. When it was launched the SUV like styling plus attractive price along with features like a touch-screen changed the perception of small cars in India. 

Thus while Renault has updated the car time and again, this is the first proper facelift for the Kwid along with an overhaul of the interiors. So while competition is high now the new Kwid seems to have come up at the right time. How good is it? We drive facelift AMT automatic version.

Looks

Like the Harrier? Well you will also love the Kwid as it has the same design in many ways. The Kwid follows the current design of headlamps and DRLs separate which sure does look cool. 

It is also standard and makes the car stand out plus it is something rivals do not have. The stance is also better courtesy bigger wheels while the updated bumper also increases the length. The rear is more or less the same but there are new tail-lamps with LEDs in the details.

Interior, space and features

Inside the cabin looks like it belongs to a more expensive car. The new look is immediately visible via the new look steering wheel which looks better while the touch-screen is bigger now at 8inch. Speaking of the touch-screen, it has been updated while the interface is nice to use. Also the instrument cluster looks better with being digital too!

Plus the glovebox is larger now while the AMT controller has moved to a new position. Thus while it is all good news here the quality is something which could have been better. The dash and materials do not feel premium while some surfaces are quite sharp! In terms of features there is the new bigger touch-screen, a superb rear view camera along with sensors, front power windows, LED DRLs, ABS with front power windows etc. It has the basic safety features also.

Engine, gearbox and performance

There are two petrol engines while you can have two gearbox options also. There is an 800cc petrol engine but we suggest it makes more sense to buy the 1.0 Kwid. It’s the better engine and also has the AMT automatic option which is seen here. The 1.0 engine makes 68 bhp and 91 Nm.

To drive the 1.0 does a decent job as in the city there is a decent amount of power plus the lightweight nature of the Kwid makes this a perfect commuter. However more impressive is the AMT as stop-go traffic the AMT has few jerks plus it is not painfully slow. The creep function also means at low speeds it is as smooth as the any automatic.

However when you drive it hard there you find the gearbox being a touch slow plus there is�� lag between the shifts of the AMT. Also the engine gets noisy. That said the handling and ride is stable at high speeds. You will get good mileage at 15kmpl plus in th city while it will be close to 20 kmpl in the city.

Vs rivals

The 0.8l Kwid starts at Rs 2.8 lakh while the 1.0 Kwid starts at Rs 4.3 lakh and goes till Rs 4.8 lakh. The S-Presso starts at Rs 3.6 lakh to Rs 4.9 lakh. The Redigo starts at Rs 2.7 lakh and goes till Rs 4.3 lakh.

No doubt the Kwid is the best looking car while it has also the smoothest AMT plus many features. However the S-Presso has more space and the better engine though plus it is BS6. The Kwid beats other cars easily though.

Verdict

Renault has made the Kwid a much better car now thanks to the new looks plus the added features gives it bonus points while the 1.0 AMT makes good sense. We expected a BS6 engine or more quality but it is still the best looking car in its class and a great entry-level option.
