Prompt 8 - First Heartbreak
@wolfstarmicrofic January 7, word count 559
“Oh, Remus,” Lily said as she turned the corner and saw him trying to hold back his tears. She wrapped her arms around him the best she could and hugged him in a way only she and his mum could. He sniffed hard as the tears tried to escape. He screwed his eyes shut as he began to break down.
His chest shuddered as he fought back the sobs, but they broke through and then Lily was stuffing a tissue into his hand as fat, hot tears streaked his face.
“I-I-I-I’m s-s-s-s-sorry,” He choked out between sobs.
“What’s wrong, Remus?” She asked, stroking her hand up and down his back soothingly.
“I’m such an idiot,” He said, shaking his head.
“Remus?”
“I fell for Sirius, and now he’s got a new girlfriend and I just couldn’t stay up there,” He gasped in breath after breath as he tried to calm himself.
“Shhhh, it’s alight, shhhh,” Lily cooed, continuing to stroke his back.
Sirius had spent the last 2 hours singing her praises and describing in great detail exactly what Emmeline Vance had let him do with her. When he’d started talking about how soft the inside of her thighs were, Remus had excused himself and gone to his favourite hiding place, a window sill, obscured by the statue of a troll in clunky armour, on the fourth floor.
He hated how much Sirius having a girlfriend was hurting him. He had no right really. Sirius and the others didn’t know how he felt, only Lily knew and only because he’d needed to tell someone he liked boys.
Lily let him cry himself out before she started cleaning him up.
“Thanks, Lily,” He sniffled as she wiped his face dry.
“I’m always here for you Remus. Even if it's to wipe your snotty face.” Remus laughed, blinking away the last few tears.
“It’s pathetic, isn’t it? Sirius having a girlfriend shouldn’t upset me so much. It’s never going to happen between us. I need to realise that and move on.” Maybe he should take Connor Innes up on his offer to go on a date on the next Hogsmeade weekend. That would be sure to shock the rest of the Marauders.
“We all have feelings for those we shouldn’t. Buck up, you’ve just experienced your first taste of heartbreak. Welcome to the club,” Remus narrowed his puffy eyes at her.
“Who’s broken your heart?” He asked with no idea who it could be.
“Are you ready to go back up?” Lily said, totally skirting around Remus’s question. “I can come sit with you and tell Sirius to shut up or cast a bat bogey hex on him; I’ve been practising.” Remus chuckled sadly.
“That sounds good, but could we just have a few more minutes here,” He asked hesitantly.
“Anything you want, sweetie,” Lily told him, wrapping her arm around his shoulders and letting Remus lean against her.
It would probably always hurt having these feelings for Sirius, but he hoped they’d become easier to handle in the future because he didn’t think these feelings would ever go away, and he refused to lose Sirius as a friend. He sighed and stood up, bringing Lily with him.
“I’m ready,” He told her, and together they walked back up to Gryffindor Tower, Remus feeling a bit better than when he left.

Mother, i have another poly!moonwater request but its a little angsty and tbh its probs mostly Barty appreciation because i 100% believe he'd be the best support system.
So, it doesnt happen very often but Reggie and reader are fighting. Idk what about, maybe she put herself in unnecessary danger or hid a wound?? But Remus has to take Reggies side or maybe he refuses to get involved.
Anyway, as a result she runs to Barty (i imagine she's his James and hes her Sirius) because he's her safe space and is surprisingly soft and comforting. If its readers fault he would be gently upset with her but calmly talk it out with her however he's still on her side and would hide her away for a couple days and let the boys panic for a minute because thats his person aaaaaand he is a little insane.
Hope that all made sense, and then a happy ending or i will cry.
Love youuuuuuu 🫶
'happy ending or I will cry' say less, babes 🫡 Barty to the rescue
poly!moonwater x fem!reader who's best friends with Barty
CW: mentions of fainting, angst, hurt/comfort, mention of blowjobs, Barty wishing people dead (what's new?)
Remus, throughout his life, has not been a stranger to conflict. His father spent Remus’ earliest years in constant battle at the Ministry fighting against werewolf rights. That conflict turned into Remus’ own lifelong curse of lycanthropy as a form of revenge. Remus’ muggle mother and wizard father spent many years in conflict over how to best love and support their werewolf son. Remus and his father experienced a lot of conflict when Dumbledore invited Remus to attend Hogwarts despite his lycanthropy. Remus experienced a lot of conflict with pureblood supremacists at school. Remus experienced conflict with his own friends, namely Sirius, after an unfortunate ‘prank’ that nearly cost both Remus and another student their lives.
But one aspect of Remus’ life that had yet to be a source of conflict had been his relationship with you and Regulus.
It seems almost unfathomable that the three of you managed to intertwine your lives without so much as a clash, but it was true. Regulus brought a confident and assured energy to the relationship, you brought an empathetic and quiet energy, and Remus supposed he was perhaps the most easygoing of the three of you, and that was good for the group.
It is because of this lack of conflict that Remus was very confused to walk into the private study room that the three of you had reserved to find you and Regulus in the middle of a very heated spat.
“And since when don’t you tell me these kinds of things?” Regulus barked angrily at you. Remus actually had to shake his head as if he were hallucinating; he could have easily mistaken Regulus for his brother who was far more hot headed.
“I didn’t know I had to keep you posted on every little thing that happens, Regulus; I was busy.” You spat back.
“Whoa, okay. What have I missed?” Remus asked cautiously, placing his book bag down slowly on the table as if the situation in front of him were a live wire.
“Your girlfriend” Regulus spat as if girlfriend was a dirty word, “fainted today. And I had to hear about it from Pandora!”
Remus ignored most of the things that came out of Regulus’ mouth at the sound of ‘fainted’.
“Dovey! What happened?” He asked, looking to you in horror.
“What happened is she’s been overworking, under-sleeping, under-eating, and she needs to learn to say no to people!”
You scoffed at that. “You mean learn to say no to McLaggen. Just say it Regulus, this about me tutoring the sod in Herbology.”
“This isn’t about some bloke, Y/N!”
“You fainted?” Remus interjected, looking you over as if he may see signs of a fall. He did suppose you looked slightly peaky, but you were clearly worked up over whatever was going on with Regulus.
“Only a little.” You mumbled; voice still taut with impatience though you lowered the derision in your voice when you spoke to him.
“Right. And tell me, how does one only faint a little?” Regulus sneered.
You met him head on, grunting “Knock it off, Regulus. I mean it.”
Remus noticed a slight quiver in your lip, but you stood your ground. He couldn’t say he completely disagreed with Regulus, but he didn’t think shouting at you like this was particularly helpful.
“Dove, we’re only worried about you. It makes us nervous if you’re not taking care of yourself and we don’t know about it, if we at least knew-” He tried, but you scoffed again, but this time at Remus.
“Of course you’d side with him. I don’t need the two of you looking after me!”
“Well apparently you do.” Regulus barked. You didn’t bother dignifying that with an answer.
“Can we just talk about this later, please?” You asked quietly, eyes turning towards the table.
“No, we’re talking about this now. Because Salazar only knows what I’ll be hearing from Pandora next!”
“Maybe I didn’t say anything because this is exactly how I knew you would act.” You glowered at him.
“Are you even supposed to be out of the infirmary yet? What were Madame Pomfrey’s instructions?” Regulus demanded.
“I’m not doing this right now. You’re acting-”
“What were the matron’s instructions?” He asked again, voice threateningly low.
“Stop it, Regulus, I'm ser-”
“When I ask a question, you answer me.” Regulus ordered; voice booming and full of authority.
You paused in packing up your bag to look at Regulus, holding his gaze as if daring him to utter another word. The atmosphere went from the heat of battle to ice cold in a matter of seconds.
Remus took one last look at Regulus, knowing this would be it; this was how they would lose Regulus. He’d have to tell Sirius that his brother was dead, and it was just better if they all moved on. Cause of death? Oh, Y/N burnt him to ashes with nothing but a glare.
You dropped your bag back onto the table and took a step towards Regulus, dropping into a verydramatic curtsey, making sure Regulus watched.
“Yes, Master Regulus.” You sneered with contempt before returning to your full height, eyes still never leaving Regulus’. “I seem to have forgotten myself. I live to serve the Noble and Most Ancient House of Black.”
And with that, you snatched your book bag and left the study room, slamming the door behind you.
Remus was admittedly very surprised everyone survived this ordeal, though he took a moment to examine Regulus’ form.
“Well...” Remus started. “You’re not bleeding.”
Regulus let out a breath he’d been holding and sunk into his chair. “I don’t...I don’t understand. Was I wrong?”
Remus felt like this may have been a trick question. “Well, I don’t think you were right.”
Regulus looked over miserably at that, eyes begging Remus for comfort. Remus unfortunately couldn’t give it.
“I’m sorry, love. You went too far.”
“I should go after her.” Regulus sighed, looking like he was thinking of getting up.
“Do you value your life?”
“Remus...”
“You need to let her cool off, Reg.”
“But-”
“I mean it, Regulus.” Remus said sternly, raising his eyebrows at the shorter boy. “You were too angry to see it but she was very upset – probably even more so if she’s already not feeling well.”
Regulus crossed his arms not unlike a petulant child being told they weren’t allowed to have a cookie before supper.
“Fine, but soon it won’t just be Y/N I have to convince to forgive me.”
Remus, completely unsympathetic to his boyfriend’s grumblings, smirked as he took out his homework.
“Well, perhaps that’s what you get for acting like your father.”
Regulus let out a very inelegant groan and let his head fall onto the table with a thunk.
Tumblr media
Everyone had their person, for better or for worse. Sirius had James, Regulus had Pandora, Remus had Lily, and you...well, you had Barty.
And perhaps whatever Barty lacked in terms of critical thinking skills and sanity, he made up for in terms of loyalty and enthusiasm.
You knocked on the door to Barty’s dorm from the hallway when you heard a muffled “occupado!” through the wood.
“Barty? It's me.” You called quietly, hearing the sound of a locking charm being lifted from the door immediately.
You pushed open the door to see Barty laying back against his pillow with a cigarette in his hand and Evan Rosier laying on top of him with a book as he read.
“Hiya, treasure. Where’d ya leave Reggie?” Barty asked, blowing smoke away from Evan’s book.
“We got into a fight.” You admitted quietly.
Suddenly, Barty’s cigarette was flicked towards the fireplace and Evan was, very roughly and unceremoniously, dumped from his lap.
“Ah! Fuckin’ hells Junior, what was that for?” Evan muttered as he rubbed the back of his head, standing from his newfound place on the floor.
“Out! I need time with my beloved!” Barty squawked, sitting up further against the headboard and opening his arms for you as an invitation.
“Wha- what do you mean? I’m your sodding boyfriend!” Evan beseeched. Barty spared the boy a glance at that.
“Exactly, you’re only my boyfriend, Y/N is my soulmate. Now out with you.” He dismissed, returning his eyes to you.
You (somewhat meekly as you passed Evan) made your way over and crawled into Barty’s lap as Evan let himself out of the dorm room (his own dorm room, mind you).
“Alright, my sweet treasure, spill. What are his crimes?” He murmured into the top of your head.
“He yelled at me.” You said meekly, voice turning up at the end as you felt tears well in your eyes.
“Dementor’s kiss.” He proclaimed without hesitation. “Egregious, absolutely horrific crime.”
“Barty...” You moaned.
“What? I’m not kidding, I want him dead. Yelling at my sweet girl like that. For shame.”
You let out a sigh as the first few tears fell onto Barty’s shirt. You knew he was seriously hurt on your behalf for not saying anything about ruining his silk button up.
“What reason could he possibly have had to yell at you?” He murmured again into your hair, rocking you back and forth.
“I fainted... in class today.” You admitted with a grimace.
As you expected, Barty paused in his movements and lifted you up off of his body to examine you.
“Fainted!?” He hollered. “How, treasure?”
You groaned and leaned forward, wanting to hide your face in Barty’s chest again. Thankfully, he allowed you to do so.
“I don’t know...Madame Pomfrey said it could be a few things. Not enough sleep, not eating enough, stress.”
“And he yelled at you for that?”
“Well...sort of.”
Barty hummed in acknowledgement but allowed you to sit in silence as he rubbed circles onto your back.
“He was mad because he found out from Pandora.” You admitted.
“Hmm, sounds like Regulus felt stupid. Not an easy task, sweets, Salazar knows I’ve tried.” Barty determined.
“How do you mean?” you asked into his chest.
“He just always seems to know the answers when I-”
“Not that, Barty!”
“He didn’t know you had fainted, and it sounds like he perhaps didn’t even realize you were unwell. He would have thought that made him look like a fool, which it does.” He explained, lacing the words at the end of his sentence with disdain.
“Barty...” you chided.
“I mean, come on treasure; you have two boyfriends, and one of them is a Slytherin! You’re telling me neither of them noticed their most perfect, sweetest angel was struggling? Foolish. You can’t blame Lupin, though, he is a Gryffindor after all; hanging with the likes of those oafs ought to cost him a couple brain cells each day. Hey, listen... you say the word and you and Lupin are more than welcome to shack up with me and Evan.”
“Barty!”
“I’m just saying!” He yielded, holding his hands up in surrender. His faux-serious façade fell away when he noticed the corner of your lips quirk into a smile.
“I’m sorry he yelled at you.” He offered.
You half sighed half groaned as you fell back into Barty’s chest.
“I guess he was just worried about me...” You relented.
“Yes. But don’t make it easy on him, okay? It’s fun to see the sod sweat every now and again.”
Tumblr media
“Regulus...I don’t know if this is a good idea. I really think we should let her come to us.” Remus muttered quietly from behind Regulus, but he wasn’t having any of it.
This had gone on too long, in Regulus’ opinion. You were hiding in Barty’s dorm room whilst Regulus stayed in Remus’, and while he loved Remus, he hated Gryffindor, and he missed you.
“Enough is enough, Remus. I want her back.” Regulus declared as he stepped up to his door and banged on the back of it none too gently.
“Junior!” He barked through the door. “I want my girlfriend back!”
“No one’s home!” Barty called through the door.
Regulus rolled his eyes so far back into his head even he was sure they were going to get stuck there.
He put his hand on the door handle and was hit immediately with a localized stinging jinx, causing him to rip his hand back off of it and hold it to his chest protectively.
“Ow! Fuck Junior, what did you do!?” He called through the door.
“Leave a message!”
“Oh, I’ll leave you a message alright.” Regulus spat.
“Dovey?” Remus tried calling gently through the door. “Can we come in? Please?”
It was quiet for a moment before Barty answered for you. “No.”
Remus shared an eyeroll of his own before cautiously touching the doorknob – apparently it had only been cursed against Regulus.
“Okay, I’m opening the door.” Remus warned.
“I wouldn’t do that! I’m shagging your girl in here.” Barty called.
Regulus watched Remus’ face and knew two things to be true: that Remus was 97% sure that wasn’t true, and that Moony was very worried about that 3%. Ultimately, it appeared that Moony had won, causing Remus to barrel into the room rather ungraciously.
Barty was sat in a chair with his feet kicked up on a desk and a book in his hand, which he lowered to examine the two intruders casually.
“That was very rude, you know. What would you have done if the lady had been indecent.” Barty scolded, using his book to point at your curled up form on Regulus’ bed, pointedly facing away from Remus and Regulus.
Regulus felt his heart crack painfully at the sight, sharing a look with Remus who gave him an encouraging nod.
“Amour?” Regulus called gently, moving around the side of the bed in an attempt to see you. His heart cracked again when you hid your face in your arm.
“Please, my love. I’m...I’m so sorry.” He pleaded, kneeling down in front of you and cautiously stroking your arm. “I should never have spoken to you like that, I...I was wrong. And rude. And out of line. I’m sorry. Please? Please look at me, mon amour, laisse-moi arranger ça?”
You turned your head up at that, and the final splinter that carved Regulus’ heart into two was the tear stains on your cheeks.
“Oh, mon amour, je suis vraiment désolé. Je suis le pire, je suis vraiment désolé.”
“Your fancy sweet talk won’t do you any good here, Black!” Barty hollered from his place across the room. “I’ve already told her that she and Lupin are more than welcome down here with me.” He added with a lascivious wink in Remus’ direction.
Regulus could see Remus’ cheeks pink at the compliment, but he also gulped at the threat.
“Say it ain’t so, mon amour.” He said to you, caressing your arm with one hand and delicately taking yours in his other, bringing it to his lips for a delicate kiss. “Is it finally happening, are you going to leave me for another? Surely you can do better than Junior, non?”
Regulus’ heart sped up almost double time as you offered him a watery smile. “No.”
“No? You can’t do better than Junior?” He teased.
You rolled your eyes as you sniffled and tried to wipe some of your tears away. “No, I’m not leaving you, you sod.”
“Oh, thank gods.” Regulus sighed dramatically, letting his head fall into the bed in front of him. He heard you chuckle above him, and you moved your hand into his hair, gently massaging his scalp.
“Oi! How come he gets head scratches for being a wanker and I get jilted?” Remus pouted from the middle of the room.
“Oh, come here lover boy.” Barty cooed at him, opening his arms and spreading his legs to make room from the lycanthrope.
Remus let out an awkward ‘erm’ from the middle of the room before you chuckled and invited Remus to join you for his own head scratches.
He opted to curl up behind you as the big spoon and wrap his arms protectively around your middle, adding his hand to Regulus’ shoulder as he still knelt on the floor at the head of the bed. Perhaps not the best angle for head scratches, but he was clearly very happy with his current predicament.
“Right then; have either of you tossers seen Rosier?” Barty asked as he stood from his chair.
“Common room.” Remus and Regulus answered in unison.
“Thanks.” He said as he made his way to the door. “Stay out of the bathroom for a while, yeah? I owe that sod so many blowjobs after all of this.”

idk if it's blurb material but remus' girlfriend being all quiet and shy until #theprank, and she just loses her absolute shit and tears them a new one for putting remus in that position but also is ultimately the one who helps bring them back together in the aftermath
thank you for requesting!🖤
.
“Babe—”
“No! Don’t you even try to ‘babe’ me right now, Sirius Black, or I will hex your ass back into the sixties, you hear me?”
“...yes, ma’am.”
No one had ever seen you so angry. No one even knew you could be angry.
When Remus Lupin had told his friends that he was talking to a girl over a year ago, none of them quite expected to see you. Not for any bad reasons at all, it was more so just the fact that Remus himself could be quite quiet and shy, so they didn’t really expect a girl who was shy and quiet herself.
But you and Remus just worked, and it was never a concern for them as long as their boy was happy.
They had seen you in a variety of situations and moods. They had seen you on the days you were agitated and would snap at someone, only to profusely apologise less than thirty seconds later. They had seen you get frustrated to the point of tears, usually closer to exam season or assignment deadlines.
But never once in the last year since you began dating Remus had they ever seen you this mad, and that was all thanks to Sirius’ great idea to prank Snape in one of the stupidest ways you could ever deem possible.
The aftermath had not been pretty. Not for the boys, not for Remus, not for anyone involved and you had spent the better part of the last two weeks with your boyfriend, almost hiding away from the world.
And now, you were doing what you needed to be done even if the rage inside you was still very much alive and burning.
“I didn’t mean to upset him,” Sirius spoke up eventually as he followed you down the empty corridor. You hadn’t said much to him or any of the boys in the last two weeks, so when you stormed into the Gryffindor common room and told them to follow you, they listened without question. “It was just meant to be—”
You whirled around, the anger in your eyes clear and evident. “I don’t care what it was meant to be, Sirius. It was fucking stupid.”
James’ eyes widened at the curse word. “We know—”
“And yet you still did it,” you snapped back, your hands clenched into fists at your side. “You knew what you did and you still did it.”
Peter cleared his throat a little as though he was going to speak, but one look from you had him quickly taking a step back to hide behind Sirius.
“I know what we did was wrong and stupid, trust me I know it’s wrong,” Sirius sighed, his jaw trembling a little as he tried to get the words out. “The guilt—”
“No,” you sneered, pointing your finger at him and shaking your head. “You don’t get to use that word. Not at all.”
Sirius opened his mouth but nothing came out.
“You know very well how long it had taken Remus to let us in, let you in about his secret. You knew how big of a deal that was to him as he opened up to you about the very thing that made him the most vulnerable,” you gritted through clenched teeth, your finger poking his chest as you punctuated each point. “You knew how much he feared that he would become the monster that hurt him, that he would do to someone what was done to him and yet you still fucking went out of your way to put someone in that position—to put Remus in that position.”
All three boys remained silent.
“That guilt would have killed him,” you croaked, your eyes tearing up as you let out a shaky breath. “But the thing is that no matter how mad and upset he is, I know what he needs is his friends. Even if they are the ones who made him feel this way.”
“We want to be there for him,” James whispered.
“And you will be,” you said to him in a firm voice, glancing between the three boys. “You all will be, or so help me I will make you all regret the day you were born.”
“Thank you,” Sirius murmured but you shook your head.
“I’m doing this for Remus. Not you, Black. Now follow me.”

Ah, winter break. It was something everyone at Hogwarts looked forward to. Well, almost everyone. There were those who didn't get to go home to their families and some who wished they didn't have to go home to their families.
One of those people was a friend of yours, Sirius Black. He often avoided talking about his home life, but you knew it wasn't good. And you knew going home for the holidays could be hard for him. So, when it was the day before winter break and the two of you had a moment alone, you asked if there was anything you could do to make the break easier for him.
"I need you to be my girlfriend."
Seven words you'd never expected to hear from your best friend. Your best friend who was in a gay relationship, nonetheless.
"What?" You asked in bewilderment. "No!"
"Wait, wait, wait. It's not what you think." Sirius put his hands up as if to show his innocence. "I don't really want you to be my girlfriend. I just need you to pretend. Please."
"Why?!"
"Because," he explained. "My parents have started to get... Suspicious about my total lack of any girlfriend. And I may have told them that I was dating you.... Y'know, to throw them off my track..."
You stared at him. "You told your parents we were dating?!" You repeated, clearly upset at him.
"I know, I know. It was a shitty thing to do, and I'm sorry." He says. "But, if I didn't give them some sort of excuse, they might've found out about me and Remus!"
You were still upset, but you could understand why he did what he did. "So..." You crossed your arms. "You said I need to pretend to date you. What is it exactly that you need me to do?"
"Over the break, I need you to come over for a couple days. My parents will meet you, get to know you, blah, blah, blah. And then, you'll never have to speak with them again. If they ask about you after that, I'll say we broke up."
You really weren't a fan of having to fake date your best friend. You also weren't a fan of having to meet his parents who you'd only heard negative things about. But... You knew how happy he was with Remus and you would hate for his parents to find out about the two. You sighed. "You're lucky we're friends."
"Is that an agreement?" He asked, a grateful smile on his face.
"Yes. But, you'll be forever in debt to me."
"Fine by me."
The next day, while on the train to 9 3/4, you and Sirius mostly just planned for you having to meet his parents. You decided that you'd arrive the day after Christmas, stay for news years eve, and leave new Year's Day.
A lot of the train ride was spent establishing some basic facts about your "relationship". How you'd met, your first date, what your wedding would be like (which was strange, but Sirius assured you that his parents would ask about marriage), and some other details.
Soon enough, the train ride was over. Your winter break was fine. You enjoyed getting to see your family, but you were quite stressed about seeing Sirius' family. Part of you wanted to call the whole thing off, but you knew that was out of the question. You had to do this. For Sirius.
The morning of December 26th was a cold one. You wished you'd had more protection against the cold, but the formal attire you were wearing could only do so much. Sirius had told you to bring nice, formal clothing for the few days you'd be there. You were a bit worried you'd still be underdressed, though.
You took a deep breath and knocked on the door to the literal mansion that Sirius lived in.
After a few moments, the door opened. Regulus black stood on the other side.
Oh.
"Hi." You greeted, trying to politely smile at him. He didn't return the gesture. He did the opposite he gave you a look of... Annoyance?
"You're here for Sirius."
You couldn't tell if it was a question or a statement, so you just gave a nod.
He stepped aside to let you in, his eyes trailing over your attire, making you feel nervous. "He's in the living room with mother and father." Regulus said before walking off.
What a strange interaction. You and Regulus weren't close, by any means. But, you never thought he disliked you. You thought the opposite was true. Whenever the two of you did interact, he was always quite nice.
You tried to shrug off the interaction, but you just couldn't. Even when you were next to Sirius, meeting his parents for the first time, the way he'd acted toward you was on your mind.
The worst part of your day was dinner. You were worried about everything. How you were eating, how you were sitting, the way everyone was looking at you, the way Regulus was looking at you.
"Y/n," You were broken out of your thoughts by Walburga's authoritative voice. "I want to know how you and Sirius began seeing each other."
You nervously glanced over to Sirius who gave you a forced looking smile. You looked back to Walburga. Gods, she scared you. "Well, it wasn't too long ago." You said, trying your hardest not to break eye contact with her. "It was late September. He told me since we'd known each other for so long, he thought we'd be a good match."
Sirius nodded along. "We went on a couple dates, turns out we really like each other." He said.
You glanced over to Regulus. He was glaring at you. You didn't break eye contact and after a moment something else flashed through his eyes. Something softer. Sadness?
"So," Walburga broke your attention away from Regulus as you looked back to her. "Are you serious about your relationship with my son?"
"Very." You replied.
"Do the two of you plan on marrying?"
You swallowed. "As soon as possible."
You heard silverware clatter as Regulus abruptly stood up. "I need to be excused." He said lowly.
Walburga raised an eyebrow. "You've hardly eaten." She stated. There wasn't any concern in her voice like you'd expect. It was a blatant statement.
"I know." He says. "I'm done."
His mother gave him a disapproving look, but didn't object.
Regulus stormed out of the room. You couldn't help but frown as you watched him leave.
The next few days were a bit uneventful. Most of your time was either spent in the guest bedroom you were staying in, or talking with Sirius. You were still confused by Regulus' attitude toward you. You knew his and Sirius' relationship was a rocky one. But, you didn't think that affected what he thought of you. He'd known you and Sirius were friends, and he still treated you kindly. But, now that the two of you were pretending to date, he had a problem with it? It didn't make any sense!
It was December 31st now. You and Sirius were sitting in his room, eating lunch while sitting on the floor.
"I was thinking-"
"Oh, God."
"Shut up, let me finish." Sirius chuckled, playfully hitting your arm. "I was thinking about going to a party tonight."
You furrowed your brows. "Where?"
"James and his family have a new years party every year. I'm sure they wouldn't mind some extra company."
You thought about it. Honestly, you weren't really in the mood for a party. Plus, if his parents caught you sneaking out, your heart would probably stop. "I think I'll sit this one out." You said after a moment.
"You sure?"
You gave a nod. "Yeah, I'd rather stay in. I'm sure you'll have plenty of fun without me."
"Oh, I will."
You smacked his arm.
The clock read 11:39. You were alone in your guest room sitting in your bed. You had your laptop open in front of you as you watched a broadcasting of one of the many new Year's events that were going on tonight. You were absentmindedly looking at the crowded city streets displayed on your screen when-
"I wouldn't be using that while having the door open." Regulus said. He stood in the doorway, arms crossed, looking from you, to the laptop, and then back to you.
"Why not?" You asked.
"My mother doesn't approve of us using muggle technology." He said. "And I doubt she'd be okay with her son's girlfriend using it."
You sighed. "Right... Girlfriend."
Regulus raised a brow at how you'd said that. "What are you watching, anyway?" He stepped into the room, closing the door behind him.
"A new Year's parade."
"... Could I join you?"
You were surprised at that. After how cold he'd been acting toward you over the past few days, you'd assumed the last thing he'd want to do tonight is spend time with you. But, you weren't against the idea of not being alone when the new Year started.
"Sure." You replied as you moved over on the bed to make room for him to sit.
The two of you watched the parade in silence for a few minutes until Regulus spoke. "How come I had no idea you and Sirius were dating?" He asked.
You glanced over at him. "What do you mean?"
"You said the two of you had been together since late September." He said. "How come nobody knew about it?"
You subconsciously began to fiddle with the fabric of your shirt. "I don't know." You shrugged. "Guess we weren't shouting about it from the rooftops."
Regulus didn't break his gaze away from you. After a pause, he spoke. "I never would've guessed you liked him in that way."
You didn't know how to reply to that, so you just shrugged again.
Regulus was still looking at you, even though your gaze was focused on the screen in front of you.
He paused. "What made you fall for him?" He asked.
You thought it was an odd question. When you turned to look at him, he looked sort of sad. "He..." You trailed off.
Regulus looked at you expectantly. You were trying to come up with something, but your mind was blank.
"You do like him don't you?"
You looked away nervously. You began to wonder whether or not he'd even care that your relationship with Sirius was fake. If he really was upset about you dating Sirius, then wouldn't he like to know that it was all just pretend?
"Y/n." He said your name and you were pulled away from your thoughts.
"He's not actually my boyfriend." You blurted out.
Regulus paused. "What?"
"He asked me to pretend to be his girlfriend. He didn't want Walburga finding out about his actual relationship, so-"
"It's all fake?" He asked.
"All of it."
"You don't like him?"
"Not like that."
You swore you saw a sliver of a smile creep on to his face. "That's... Good."
You tilted your head. "Is it?"
"I mean..." He shrugged. "I just... I guess thinking you'd gotten with my brother was making me upset." He said.
"Why?"
"Because..." He hesitated. "I like you, Y/n."
You felt your heart skip a beat. Fuck, that actually explained a lot. You couldn't believe you hadn't realized sooner. You felt your face heat up. "Seriously?"
"Yeah." He sighed. "I was jealous. That's why I was acting so... Weird. Sorry for being such an asshole to you."
"That's alright." You paused. "Why didn't you tell me sooner? About your feelings, I mean."
He shrugged. "I didn't think you'd feel the same."
Honestly, you'd always found Regulus quite attractive. But, you figured there was no way he'd ever like you back, so you let go of that silly crush a while ago. But, this? This was making all of those feelings wash over you again.
It was 11:59 now. You could hear the commentators of the parade excitedly get ready for the countdown.
"I feel the same." You said, watching as a blush creeped on to his cheeks.
"Really?"
"Really."
His eyes seemed to sparkle at your admission. "I..."
You heard the countdown to the new Year begin.
"Can I kiss you?" Regulus asked softly. You nodded.
"Five!"
He leaned closer.
"Four!"
Your tongue darted out to wet your lips.
"Three!"
His hands came up to cup your cheeks.
"Two!"
He closed his eyes. You closed yours.
"One!"
Your lips met in a soft, romantic kiss. He brushed some hair out of your face and Gods, his hands were soft. You couldn't believe you'd ever managed to stop liking him.
When you pulled away he sighed contently as if that kiss was all he'd been needing his entire life.
You whispered something to him before pulling him in for another kiss.
"Happy new year."

Warnings: unrequited love, but happy ending for James, Heartbreak, Emotional Turmoil, Intense Emotions, Emotional Resolution, mean and jealous Lily Evans
James Potter has been rejected by Lily Evans one too many times. He had tried asking her out countless times, only to be met with a no each time. It left James heartbroken and frustrated, wondering what he was doing wrong.
He nervously approached Lily, his heart pounding in his chest to win her over, but she always rejected him. Determined to give it one last shot, he mustered up the courage to ask her out more time.
"Lily, I know you've said no before, but please, just give me a chance," James pleaded, his eyes pleading with her to reconsider.
But Lily shook her head, an annoyed look on her face “Sorry, James. I just don't see you that way."
He pretends to smile and says, "it's alright, I comprehend. I won't bother you anymore.”
“finally.” She whispers as she sees him leave before walking off with a smile on her face
James quickly went to his dorm and sat on his bed crying. “Why does love hurt so much?”
“James, are you ok? Why are you crying?” His friends rushed over to his side.
He shakes his head. "No, I got rejected again by Lily.”
Sirius pats James’s back as he tries to calm his Best friend down. "Oh Prongs We know how much you love her but maybe it's time to move on from her.”
Remus nods his head, "she doesn't deserve your tears. You'll find your true love. Think about it. Perhaps Lily isn't even your true love. Maybe someone else is.”
He looked at his two friends. “You’re all probably right. Lily may not be for me. Do you think there's a chance that I will find or meet my true love?”
Sirius smiles "There is always an opportunity to love again. But anyway, I would love to continue talking, but I must fall asleep early. Tomorrow morning, I will be giving a tour of the school to a new student.”
Before he could ask Sirius about the new student, he was already sleeping causing him to shake his head. “Awe man!!”
“Prongs wake up!!” To wake up James, Sirius pokes him gently.
As he senses someone poking him, he growls “Just five more minutes!!”
Seeing that he wasn't going to wake up, Sirius decided to use his pillow to hit him. “No, you have to wake up now.”
"Ouch." He complains, “why did you do that?”
“I tried to wake you up with a poke, but you didn't respond, so I had to use my pillow to wake you up.” Sirius tells him.
He grumbles “what are you doing here? Aren't you supposed to be giving the new student a tour at this moment?”
"About that." Sirius smiles while scratching his head, “I was hoping that you would do it.”
He groans “Why did you offer if you weren't going to do it in the end?”
“I was reminded of my detention today, which I forgot about. " Sirius smiles a little bit.
"Fine, I will do it." He states.
“Thank you, Prongs. I was going to ask Remus or Peter to do it, but I was unable to find them.” Sirius informs him.
“You're welcome pads.” He lays his head on his pillow. “When is it?”
Sirius looks around before giving James an answer and gives him an awkward smile “in five minutes.”
He got out of his bed. “What? Are you serious?”
Sirius nods. “I apologize I was preoccupied flirting with some girl and became sidetracked, forgetting to wake you up.”
Quickly brushing his hair, he says, "Are you trying to get me killed? I bet the new guy is waiting mad once he sees me he will kill me for making him wait so long. Thanks a lot pads.”
"Don't worry, she won't kill you," Sirius looks down at his watch."You should get going, you only have two minutes left, and if you arrive late, who knows she might," he says, laughing.
"I'll come and hunt you so you can go with me if she does." He remarks before leaving.
While you waited for the person who’s going to give you a tour, you were walking back and forth through Hogwarts' corridors, lost in your thoughts. Suddenly You got pushed by someone out of nowhere, and you fell dropping your wand and books.
"Hey, watch where you're going!"As you stood up trying to gather your things from the floor.
James Potter, the mischievous and charming Gryffindor, bent down to help you collect your belongings. "I'm so sorry I’m in a hurry that I wasn't paying attention," he said, a sheepish smile on his face when he locked eyes with yours
You couldn't help but notice a blush on his face as you looked into his hazel eyes. "It's okay, accidents happen," you replied, grateful for his assistance.
He handed you back your wand and smiled. "I'm James, by the way. Are you the new student? Because I don't think I've seen you around before."
You nodded, still feeling flustered from the encounter. "Yes, I'm Y/n. I transferred here from Beauxbatons.”
"Well, Welcome to Hogwarts, darling and shall we begin the tour?” He asked, trying to hide his blush from you.
You gave a nod to him, who offered to help carry your belongings as you began to walk alongside him.
"Thank you so much James for the tour," you said, trying not to show how sad you were.
“If you ever need help finding your way around or want someone to show you some cool secret passageways, just let me know," he offered, flashing you a charming grin.
Your heart raced with excitement at the thought of exploring Hogwarts with James by your side. Maybe this collision was just the beginning of a new friendship – or perhaps
“James, can we talk?”A redhead girl asked while grinning, but she stopped and snarled at you when she saw you with him
"I'm busy, lily. Not now.” He tells her annoyed, but when he looked at you, he smiled
She grinds her teeth. "But it's important."
He rolled his eyes at the redhead. "Y/n’s more important than what you need to tell me.” He gives you a wink.
"How dare you?" Lily asks him, but he ignores her, making her leave not before giving you a glare.
As you watched, she stormed off, upset that James had chosen to stay with you rather than pursue her. “Your girlfriend's mad, you should go after her. I'm so sorry if I caused you any problems with her,"
"Don't worry about it, she's not my girlfriend or anything," he grinned as he shook his head.
"But she did seem really mad and also it seemed like it was really important what she wanted to tell you," you grinned in return.
He shrugs his shoulders. "She can continue being angry, and I don't really care if what she wanted to share with me was important or not."
You were curious to find out if something had happened between him and her, but you decided to leave it alone since you don't really know one other that well. Perhaps one day he will tell you.
You planted a kiss on his cheek. "Once, thank you for giving me the tour and for carrying my belongings."
He touched his cheek as he grinned, "Of course for you anytime and don't forget about that I told you."
You gave a nod before departing, and James, who is still grinning as he touches his cheek, makes his way to his dormitory. “You’re amazing Y/n your kiss made me want to faint but I didn’t want to look like an idiot in front of you.”
"How are you feeling today? Remus and Sirius told me about what Lily did." Peter queries.
James was still deep in his thoughts about you. "Who’s Lily? and what did she do?"
Peter looks at him quizzically. "Lily, the girl that you loved and the one who turned you down.”
"Yeah, I still don't know who she is," he says, grinning, as he turns to face Peter.
Peter casts him a worried glance. "Are you okay?"
Remus and Sirius enter the room laughing and chatting, but they pause when they notice a worried expression on Peter's face. "what’s going on?”
With a shrug of his shoulders, Peter looks at them. "I don't know. I asked him how he was doing after what Lily did, but he answered with a. “who's Lily? And what did she do?”
Sirius glances at Peter before approaching James. "Hey Prongs, are you okay?"
James nods "Yeah, I apologizes I was just in my thoughts thinking about her.”
Remus furrowed his brow. "Lily?"
"Of course not, I was thinking about Y/n not Lily," James shook his head.
“Y/n?, who is she?” Peter and Remus both inquired at the same moment.
"She was originally going to Beauxbatons but she was recently transferred here. Plus, she's extremely gorgeous," James remarks.
“Is she prettier than Lily, or what?” Peter questioned, but Sirius gives him a small hit in the arm. "Ouch! Sorry I was just curious.”
Peter and Sirius are both laughed at by James. "I always thought Lily was the most beautiful woman alive," James says. “However, after I met Y/n, everything changed, and now Lily is no longer in my thoughts or emotions; instead, Y/n is. My present is Y/n, and my past is Lily.”
As soon as James laid eyes on you, he felt a spark ignite within him. He found himself drawn to you, wanting to spend every moment in your presence. The two of you quickly became friends, bonding over shared interests and adventures around the castle.
James fell hard for you because you were lovely, humorous, and kind. After spending time with you, joking and chatting, James knew he had to ask you to the Yule Ball.
With the Yule Ball approaching, James decided to take a chance and ask you to be his date
James and you came across a charming little flower shop. The vibrant blooms in the window caught your eye, and you couldn't help but take a closer look.
He watched you appreciate the various corsages. sly smirk playing on his lips. After a short while, he quietly disappeared and reappeared holding a stunning corsage. When he presented you the delicate corsage, you gasped with delight because it was decorated with your favorite color and flowers.
"Oh, James, it's amazing," you said, grateful as tears welled in your eyes.
He grinned broadly at your reaction and as you two carried on your trip through the village. James and you had a beautiful scenario as you walked through the snowy streets, illuminated by the warm glow of the winter sun.
He and you reached a secluded spot, he suddenly dropped to one knee, causing your heart to skip a beat. He took your hand in his and looked up at you with an earnest expression.
"Y/N, I can't imagine going to the Yule Ball with anyone else but you. Will you do me the honor of being my date?" He asked, his voice filled with hope.
Tears glistened in your eyes as you gazed down at him, your heart overflowing with love. Without hesitation, you nodded emphatically.
"Yes, James, I would love to go to the Yule Ball with you," You whispered, your voice full of emotion.
He gently placed the corsage on your hand, his fingers lingering on your skin as he secured it in place. The moment As you and him learned how deeply you felt for one another, the moment was full of beauty and possibilities.
He leaped to his feet, wrapping you in a tight embrace as the two of you basked in the joy of the newfound companionship. The promise of a magical night at the Yule Ball loomed ahead, and James and you couldn't wait to dance the night away in each other's
During the ball, Lily pulled you aside when James was distracted
“You know, Y/n, I heard James is only interested in you because he couldn't have me. He's probably just trying to make me jealous." Playing with her hair, Lily smirks.
Your lips curled. "Lily, I appreciate your concern, but I really don't think that's the case. James has been nothing but genuine and kind to me."
She faked a smile. "I'm just trying to protect you, Y/n. I don't want to see you get hurt."
You didn't really believe her, even if you were grateful for her apparent concern. However, Still, her words planted a small seed of doubt in your mind
There was a lot of excitement going on at the Yule Ball, and James and you were drawn into its allure. James was dying to tell you how much he loved you as you two danced together.
You swayed to the music, lost in each other's eyes, the world around you fading away as you were immersed in the moment. James's gaze held a depth of emotion that made your heart flutter, and you felt the familiar spark of love igniting within you.
As the dance continued, James's lips hovered close to your ear, and you could feel his breath against your skin. "Y/n," he whispered, his voice filled with tenderness, "I have something important to tell you."
Your heart skipped a beat as anticipation built up inside you. You held your breath, waiting for his words, your doubts and fears pushed to the back of your mind by the intensity of the moment.
"I love you," James confessed, his eyes shining with sincerity and love. "Since the day that I met you. You mean everything to me, and I want to spend the rest of my life by your side."
Tears welled up in your eyes, overcome by the raw emotion in his words. The doubts planted by Lily's words dissipated, replaced by a wave of certainty and love that washed over you.
Your heart soared at his words, a warm rush of emotions filling me to the brim. "I love you too, James," you replied, tears of joy pricking at the corners of your eyes. "I've loved you from the moment we met as well,”
Overcome with happiness, James pulled you into a passionate kiss. Just as it caught up in the embrace, a shocked and upset Lily witnessed the scene.
“I can't believe you would do this to me." Lily asks in tears “I love you now. You should’ve waited for me,”
"I'm sorry, Lily, but I've moved on. I'm happy with Y/n now."
Hand in hand, James and you walked away, leaving Lily to grapple with her emotions. Despite Lily's efforts, James had found love again, and nothing could ruin this magical moment for him and you.
But for James, he was finally happy. He had found someone who truly cared for him, and he knew that he had made the right choice from moving on from Lily. And as he held you in his arms, he knew that he had found his true love.

A Diviner's Guide to James Potter
Chapter Nine: Red and Gold
James Potter x Fem!Gryffindor!Reader
Chapter Eight - Chapter Ten ☆ Series Masterlist
Description: the duel brings up old insecurities, Marlene finally breaks, and Hogsmeade holds the shining key to happy hours ahead.
Word Count: 5.5k
Notes: lots of stuff happening next chapter!! also I love making James say corny things because I think that he would and no one can stop me.
You sat by the fire in the Common Room, staring into the hearth even though your eyes were growing dry. James was on the sofa beside you, his leg bouncing like it had been for the last twenty minutes. When he was forced to leave you to go to Potions after lunch, you would have thought someone was ripping his wand from his hand. It took a great deal of convincing from you, Lily, and Remus to make him leave you with Peter. You stood beside him, arms limp at your sides while James fought with Lily over your supposed safety in the castle. He had even tried floating the idea of hiding you under the cloak and sneaking you into the dungeons, but you were strongly opposed. Instead, Peter kindly accompanied you to the Library, where you actually started on your DADA assignment. While you insisted you did not need a defender, it was the only way to quiet James’s constant influx of protests.
“Come on,” Sirius said, pushing James’s shoulder towards the staircase to the dungeons. “You’ll see your girlfriend in a few hours.”
He cast you a mischievous smile before he turned around, keeping his hand on James’s back as he led him away. You hoped Peter couldn’t tell that your heart had begun to race, or that you felt as if you had a fever.
You were just happy that no news came back from that class, since Mulciber was in it as well. How they held James back from hexing him right then and there was beyond you. His anger was only exacerbated by the fact you were adamant on not reporting Mulciber to a professor. After what happened with Mary, you would not be the reason Mulciber and his gang went after your friends even more than before. Sirius was also upset with you, since Lily had talked you down considerably from your desire to get even with him via pranks. All in all, she was the only one truly pleased with you at the moment.
Your book was lying in your lap, untouched and nearly finished. While you were in the Library, it had crossed your mind that your Ichthyomancy fortune had not yet come to pass. Joy, heartache, and a loss of innocence. You wondered if this could be heartache, since it wasn’t certain that they had to come in the order you received them. You didn’t feel like this constituted a loss of innocence or change in worldview, though that was also a possibility. If anything, it was most likely the manifestation of the crow, since that pointed more towards general bad luck. Either way, it had been eating at you for hours. That, amongst other things.
At the nearest table, Remus and Lily were hard at work on Ancient Runes, Dorcas on the other side of the room with Mary pouring over Charms. You tore your eyes away from the fire, glancing down at Sirius and Marlene’s Wizard Chess board lying on the carpet. Sirius was winning, but not by much.
“He’s using the Benoni Defense,” you said.
Marlene looked up, her eyes widening for a moment. Sirius’s expression was much the same.
“Oi!’ he cried, his brows furrowing as he motioned to the board. “What’re you playing at?”
You shrugged, smiling as your mood already began to improve at the sight of Sirius’s distress. “She’s my roommate.”
Marlene was back to focusing on the pieces, her head cocked to one side. “Honestly, it doesn’t help much. I have no clue what a Benoni Defense is.” She made a decent move, though all of Sirius’s pieces remained intact. “But I appreciate the thought.”
Sirius had already forgotten about your betrayal, zeroed in on the game before him. Beside you, James smiled softly, glancing down at your book.
“How is it?” he asked, picking it up from your lap. He studied the cover, flipping it over to read the back.
“It’s good,” you answered, momentarily pulled into the sight of his profile. You went to say something else, but the words caught in your throat when he turned to look at you, so much like the way he did at the pond. That giddy, fervorous feeling was quickly washed away when you remembered Mulciber’s sardonic voice, You both had that little date…who knows what you two got up to in there. It rang in your head like the world's worst church bell, scorching over the little bit of serenity you had been able to muster up over the course of the day.
“What’s wrong?” James asked, his demeanor entirely changed. Suddenly he was buzzing with worry, his eyes dashing across your face in search of an answer. Sirius and Marlene glanced up from their game, as did Remus and Lily.
“Nothing,” you said, trying to wipe off your expression that clearly revealed too much. “It's just a headache.”
Lily dropped her quill, her features softening. “Let’s get something from Madam Pomfrey.”
“No, that's all right,” you said with a shake of your head. “It’s small.”
“A cup of tea, then,” James said, moving to stand.
You shook your head again, beginning to form a nervous smile. James was now standing in front of you, waiting expectantly. On the other side of the sofa, Peter seemed as if he wanted to speak, opening his mouth and closing it again. Realizing there was no way James, or anyone else, would let you off the hook, you stood, turning back towards Peter for a moment.
“Would you like us to bring you back something?” you asked.
Peter sheepishly nodded. “A scone with clotted cream, if you would.”
“L/N’s having a breakdown and you ask for a snack?” Sirius said with a teasing laugh. Marlene swatted him from across the chessboard, Peter sinking lower into the cushions.
“I’m not having a breakdown ,” you said, crossing your arms. You looked back at Peter with an understanding smile. “Do you want jam, as well?”
“Yes, please,” Peter answered, his voice still small.
With that, James walked you to the portrait hole, letting you climb through first. As he closed it behind him, the Fat Lady grinned at you both, her eyes falling onto you.
“You look much better, dear!” she said, her hands clasped together at her chest. “I hate to see a pretty face so desecrated by violence.” She unclasped her hands, bringing one up to her hair and running it over her updo. “My painter, Lorenzo Matero said I was the most beautiful woman he had ever created, though of course that was nearly a millennia ago now. Oh! To be part of the great beauties of the world is a harrowing task, I shall not lie, especially at such a demanding post as–”
“I’m sorry,” James began, forcing down a snicker, “but we’re in a bit of a hurry.”
“Oh! of course! But who could forget you, Mr. Potter! I once knew a young man who resembled you so closely, I’d say you were twins save for the four hundred years which separates your births. He was the inspiration for a play or two, I believe. Spent some time in Southwark, If I recall correctly–”
James placed a gentle hand on your back and led you away, chuckling as the Fat Lady continued on without noticing you both had left. You walked along the west face of the castle, the setting sun shining rays of golden light through the windows.
“You still haven’t mastered the art of getting away from her gabbing,” James laughed. “It’s hard, I’ll give you that.”
“Don’t you feel bad?” you asked, thinking about life hanging on a wall, swinging back and forth forever. “It must get lonely.”
James watched as you stared at your shoes, both of your faces illuminated by the glimmering sun. He turned away, putting his hands into his pockets with a shrug. “I don’t know. Do you think she seems depressed?”
You shook your head with a small laugh. “No, now that you say it. ”
James wore the smile you loved the most; easy, bright, entirely by accident. His others were marvelous as well, of course, but there was something about this kind you liked best. A heaviness sunk in your chest, for there were endless compliments built up inside you, enough to fill a library. You wondered if they’d ever see the light of day.
You allowed James to make your cup of tea once you arrived in the kitchens, knowing it was useless to fight with him over the matter. Maybe just for a laugh, James sat in one of the miniature sets of table and chairs meant for the house elves once it was finished, motioning to the chair opposite him.
You stood in front of it, holding your steaming mug with an amused smile. “You’re going to break that,” you laughed, watching him scoff as if you had truly hurt his feelings.
“What’re you trying to say?”
“That it’s made for house elves,” you said, your grin remaining. After a moment you gave in, carefully sitting in one of the chairs, just large enough for a child. You placed your mug on the table, your knees hitting against the edge. “This is ridiculous.”
“I thought you hadn’t lost your childlike wonder?” He mirrored your expression, clearly enjoying the novelty of it all.
You chuckled, staring down into your cup, the teabag settling in place after a brief bob. “Don’t you want anything?” you asked, glancing back towards the wide cupboard doors. It seemed as if every food known to man was stored back there, the rows of shelves nearly endless.
“No,” he said, pausing for a moment. “Do you want to take it back up to the Common Room, or drink it here?”
You thought over his question, though not for very long. “Here.”
It was foolish of you to say it, but you hadn’t the strength to give up the option so easily. You tried to reason that you had a long, awful day, and you deserved to show yourself some kindness. But, was it really kind to torture yourself, dangling James like a carrot in front of your face? It didn’t matter, for James was already smiling.
“I’d hope you’d say that. I need a break from Sirius too, you know,” he joked, his smile dropping just a fraction. “I’m sorry about what he said during lunch. I should’ve said something then, but I was just so caught up in–”
“It’s perfectly fine,” you said, cutting him off. A pang shot through your chest, but you ignored it, your head falling forward as you gazed into your cup again. “He’s right, anyway. I’m not exactly who you think of when you picture a Gryffindor.”
James shrugged one of his shoulders, leaning his little chair back on two legs. “Neither is Remus, or Peter, or Mary. All that matters is that the hat sorted you there. Can’t have better proof than that,” he spoke so casually, brushing off the matter like it wasn’t something that used to keep you up at night.
You dunked your teabag a few times before taking a sip. “Yeah,” was all you said, your eyes drifting anywhere but on James.
“Hey.” He dropped his chair back down, leaning forward over the little table and easily growing quite close to you. “Did it really bother you that much, or was it something I said?”
“No, it’s not you,” you answered, chuckling dryly. You rubbed a hand over your eyes, the urge to tell him what you were feeling like a dull ache all over your body. “It’s just–” you faltered, sighing in frustration.
“What?” he asked softly, sitting back in his chair.
You swallowed, your heart beating faster and faster as the seconds flew by. You pressed your lips together tightly, taking a breath before you spoke, “I’ve only told this to Lily,” you began, nearly whispering. “Please don’t tell anyone, all right?”
James nodded quickly, his eyes wide behind his glasses.
“When I was sorted, well, my whole family thought I’d be a Ravenclaw. That’s what my father was and I take after him. He was head of the Astronomy Club when he was at Hogwarts.”
“Yeah, I know,” James said, urging you on. You couldn’t recall telling him that before. If you did, it had to be a while ago.
“I don’t know…when I got up onto the stool, I felt like I was going to be sick. I knew I wasn’t a Hufflepuff like my mum, or at least I didn’t think so at the time,” you said it with a laugh, though it was utterly humorless. “When I sat down, I expected the sorting hat to say Ravenclaw immediately, and I’d feel so relieved because I already knew exactly where I was going to be. But it didn’t, and I think maybe it didn’t because in my head, I was terrified of being sorted there,” you paused, your eyes remaining fixed on your mug. The memory started to come back to you, more vivid than it had been in a long time. “I realized if I was a Ravenclaw, I’d have to be smart, I’d have to be witty. I imagined myself outside the Common Room half asleep because it was nearing curfew and I couldn’t get the riddle,” you stopped, your hands coming up to the side of your face, your palms warmed by your mug.
James didn’t speak, a notable drop in his posture. He continued to gaze across your face, compassion filling his expression. With a deep breath you dropped your hands, running your finger along the lip of the mug. You had a moment of déjà vu, though it passed quickly.
“It feels like forever ago, now,” you continued, “I’m not sure whether I asked the hat to sort me into Gryffindor, or if I just wished really hard I wouldn’t be in Ravenclaw. Either way, when I walked to the Gryffindor table and everyone was cheering, I remember that I felt like a fraud. That whole year I worried someone would find me out or accuse me of being an imposter or something,” you laughed again, still without any joy. “I told Lily after the first week because I couldn’t take the secret any longer. Now, I don’t think about it too much, barely at all, really,” you paused, breathing slowly through your nose. You finally met his eyes, frighteningly unreadable. “So, Sirius was right, I probably should be in Ravenclaw.”
James’s eyes grew serious, his hands coming up to splay across the table. He looked at you hard, sending a wave of nerves through you. “That counts,” he said sternly. “That counts as much as anything. If you ask to be a Gryffindor, you are one.”
“I don’t think that’s how that works,” you said softly, a sad smile pulling up at the corner of your lips.
“Yes, it is,” he stated. “It’s precisely how it works. The hat would never put you where you don’t belong. You can ask all you want, but if you don’t belong in Gryffindor, you won’t get sorted there.”
You felt like you were getting scolded by a professor, beginning to feel guilty over something, only you didn’t know what.
“I’m not really following your logic,” you began, attempting to work it out in your head. “If you ask to be in Gryffindor, you’ll get sorted there, but the hat never puts someone where they don’t belong?”
“No one who wasn’t a Gryffindor would ask to be one.”
“You’re mad,” you said, shaking your head with a disbelieving smile.
“You’re mad.” He was smiling as well, beginning to chuckle when you gave him a puzzled look. “Do you think you should be a Ravenclaw because you what, like Astronomy? That’s the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard.”
“You don’t have to be mean,” you joked, his laughter infectious.
He didn’t speak for a moment, continuing to watch you in a way that was making you nervous. You realized you were getting far too used to confessions, and it was quickly becoming a dangerous, pressing issue.
“A duel does not a Gryffindor make, Y/N. That's a bit shallow, even for me.”
“A duel does not a Gryffindor make?” you repeated with a laugh. “Where are you coming up with this stuff lately?”
His smile widened. “I’m not dense, you know.”
You raised your brows, shrugging a bit as he started to shake his head at you in offense.
“I really can’t believe you sometimes,” James said, his tone far less playful than before. “I could’ve told you first year that you were a Gryffindor. You should’ve just asked me, could’ve cleared this whole thing up.”
You took a sip of your tea, warm and utterly perfect. You wish you had the right thing to say, but you didn’t. With Lily, it was easy. With her, you didn’t have to walk around the subject of your appreciation. With a single look, a single “I love you,” she’d understand everything you were trying to convey. However, nothing would ever be right for James.
Despite your lacking eloquence, you were beginning to feel something new bubbling within you. Perhaps it was a newfound sense of peace in donning the red and gold, or maybe something more complicated, less easily described. Either way, it was lovely and awful at the same time, the way it always was when it came to him.
“Thank you, James,” you said, feeling your heart clench. What else was there but thankfulness?
James tilted his head at you, making you realize your mistake. “Remember what I told you?”
“Fine,” you huffed, rolling your eyes. “You’re a real pain in the arse, you know that?”
*⑅୨୧*⑅୨୧*⑅୨୧*⑅୨୧*⑅୨୧*⑅୨୧*⑅୨୧*⑅୨୧*⑅୨୧*⑅୨୧*
On Friday morning in the Great Hall, Lily shook her head at you as you scribbled away on your parchment, The Curse and the Cure by Rosalie Dundlespar opened up in front of you. Your DADA assignment was due this afternoon, and while you meant to work on it all this week, you only just started on it Thursday. After you got back from the kitchens yesterday evening, you had gone straight to your room to cram, though there were still the final touches to complete. If you hadn’t busted your lip the day before, Lily would’ve been chastising you for your procrastination.
With a heavy sigh you dropped your quill, picking up your parchment and holding it out in front of you as if it were a work of art.
“Finished?” Lily asked.
You nodded, putting it back down onto the table and screwing the cap back on your inkwell.
“Took you long enough,” Marlene snorted. Beside her, Dorcas began to laugh as you held your chin up, rolling your eyes as you gathered the parchment into a pile.
“I think it’s at least an A, probably an E, thank you very much.”
“Shooting for the stars, I see,” Sirius mumbled, earning him a pointed glare. Remus elbowed him in his side, though it did little to wipe the smirk off his face.
“I see the pampering only lasted about ten hours,” you said, shoving your things back into your bag.
“That's not true,” said James immediately, turning to Sirius with a look of displeasure.
“Certainly not,” Lily said with a smile. “How about we do something fun tonight. Anything you want.”
You sat for a moment in thought, taking a bite of your forgotten breakfast.
“Does anyone have any booze?” Marlene asked, perking up. James, Dorcas, and Remus all shook their heads.
“I’ve got some ,” Sirius said hesitantly. “But the supply is running low.”
“I don’t have any, either,” you said, glancing around at the others. “I guess we’ll just have to have fun tomorrow.”
“Just sneak into Hogsmeade and buy some,” Marlene said with a shrug.
“You can’t just sneak into Hogsmeade on a Friday,” Sirius scoffed. “That's the problem with being universally loved, everybody knows you.”
“I wish I had your confidence,” you mumbled into your tea. Lily snickered beside you, though Sirius wasn’t privy to your sly comment, continuing to argue his point.
“Mr. Henwood will spot us a mile away.” Sirius motioned to James, Remus, and Peter with raised brows.
Mr. Henwood owned the grocers, the only place to find firewhiskey by the bottle. He also happened to be a bit of a tattletale. Any witch or wizard under the age of seventeen attempting to purchase firewhiskey, simison steaming stout, mead, wine, or any other conceivable alcohol stronger than butterbeer would be swiftly reported to Headmaster Dumbldore. While their discipline was often measly and usually no more than helping their head of house for a few hours after class, it was something one tended to avoid. You imagined Sirius was right, Mr. Henwood was not likely to be understanding of his pressing need for liquor pre-weekend if it meant sneaking out of the castle.
“Fine,” Marlene huffed. “We’ll just get some more tomorrow, then.”
“Tomorrow,” James said, raising his cup of tea in the air triumphantly. Sirius picked his up as well, clinking them together. James grinned towards you, bringing the mug to his lips and taking a sip.
“Take flight, my pupils!” Professor Taurisus called out to his students as they hurried out of his classroom. “Remember, barba non facit philosophum, and nor does the boot!” He smiled towards Lily, who was the only one who laughed.
“Cursed shoe of Vienna?” you asked with a chuckle.
She nodded, shaking her head as you each left the room. “It’s too bad Taurisus will be gone next year. I quite like him.”
“At least he isn’t frightening,” you began. “I swear, fifth year I got noth–”
Marlene called out your name, running up beside you in a hurry. You and Lily stopped in the middle of the corridor, staring at her with equally befuddled expressions.
Marlene repeated your name, grinning madly towards you both. “Could I borrow you for a minute?”
“Sure,” you said, meeting Lily’s eyes.
“I’ll get us a table,” she said, beginning to walk towards the Library. “I’ll see you in a bit.”
Marlene watched Lily’s back as she walked down the hall, her head whipping around as Lily grew small.
“Oh my Godric,” she exclaimed, her eyes closing for a moment. “I haven’t been able to get a moment alone with you for ages!”
“What’re you talking about?” you asked, following Marlene back the other way.
She leaned towards you, practically buzzing. “You have to tell me everything , absolutely everything,” she whispered, leading you down a less populated corridor. “I’m done being an impartial witness. I want details, the longing glances across crowded rooms–”
“What are you on about?”
“What am I on about?” she repeated, her hands flying around wildly. “Last night, the kitchens? Not to mention last week.”
Oh. You already began to feel embarrassed, a hand coming up to your face in a vain attempt to hide your eyes. Marlene’s smile had not dropped, still completely giddy.
“Nothing happened, Marls, which is how it’s going to stay,” you whispered back, eyeing a few students in your year walking by. You continued when they had passed, still rather paranoid from the portrait situation, “And I thought you weren’t a gossip.”
“Fine, I admit it, I am one,” she sighed. “I was fighting who I was, trying not to get in the middle of it. I just can’t stand another minute of sitting there, watching you act like you don’t have him wrapped around your–”
“Even if it were true, which it’s not,” you said, giving her a hard look, “it doesn’t matter. There’s rules about this–” you waved your hands in front of you, motioning to some invisible, ancient stone tablet floating between you.
Marlene rolled her eyes again, groaning dramatically. “You’re so stuck on that. Everyone knows those rules don’t really exist, not when your friends like you and Lily are,” she paused, staring at you with a serious look in her eyes. “You and Lily are best friends, and you’re closer with her than anyone else. I can guarantee she would be overjoyed if you and him got together. I mean, for whatever reason, you don’t constantly want to knock him over the head, Merlin knows why–”
“Marls.”
“Fine, but you know what I mean. You both think the sun shines out of each others–” she stopped, heading your scowl. The energy that had just been running through her settled, leaving her only with a warm expression. “I wish you could see the way he looks at you, Y/N.”
You didn’t speak for a moment, your gaze drifting away from her face towards the floor. A group of students passed by, their chatter a high-pitched cacophony of Friday frenzy. Your head turned quickly to look as one of them shot a glittering array of golden sparks towards the vaulted ceilings. A fit of laughter followed suit, a few running ahead, glancing back towards their friends.
“We’ve just become closer this year, that’s all,” you said, deflating as you were reminded of your own pitiful situation. “He looks at his other mates the same way.”
“You’re wrong,” Marlene said with a small shake of her head.
You rubbed your eyes again, your shoulders dropping. “I’ve gotta go. Want to come to the Library?”
“Sure,” she said, beginning to walk alongside you. “Dorcas is at practice, anyway. We’re continuing this conversation later, though.”
“Glad to know I’m your second choice.”
She hit you on the arm, you each sharing a laugh, the sound echoing down the corridor.
After Marlene’s giggled died down, she stiffened, staring out in front of you. Soon enough you saw it as well, taking a breath as Wilkes and Snape came from around the corner towards you both. Marlene glanced over at you, searching your eyes for a moment before continuing forward. Wilkes’s smirk was small, dripping with a vile satisfaction. His eyes gleamed as they fell on you, running across your face. Beside him, Severus’s expression was a bit morose, his slinking walk more unnerving than normal.
When they passed you, your heart beat quicker, though neither said a word or made any move towards you. Ghostlike, Severus’s eyes drifted to follow you, his head turning just a fraction before he released you from his gaze. You let out a sigh of relief when you and Marlene exited the corridor, back towards the DADA classroom.
“Ugh,” you huffed, your pace speeding up. “I hope this whole thing blows over soon. I’m not sure how much more stress I can take.”
“You and me both.”
*⑅୨୧*⑅୨୧*⑅୨୧*⑅୨୧*⑅୨୧*⑅୨୧*⑅୨୧*⑅୨୧*⑅୨୧*⑅୨୧*
“If Sirius and Seraphina start snogging, I’m going to puke,” Marlene said with a grimace, staring forward at the pair snuggled up beside the entrance to Madam Puddifoots. Above you, the sky was rather dark for midday, the probability of rain increasing as time went on. The air was a bit nippy, though nothing like a week ago.
“Then stop looking,” Lily laughed, briefly glancing behind her to look at the couple. Marlene huffed, crossing her arms as her head tilted back to look at the looming gray clouds.
“This has to be some sort of record,” you began, taking a peek at them. Sirius whispered something in Seraphina’s ear, making her giggle. “How long have they been seeing each other, a month?”
“Just about,” Remus said.
“Longest month of my life,” James groned. Peter and Dorcas began snickering at him, though this did little to tamper his dramatics.
“She is not that bad,” Lily said, rolling her eyes as he continued to whine.
“That’s because you barely have to deal with her. A few days ago, she held us up for eight minutes talking about the last two haircuts she's gotten,” James said, staring at Lily in what could only be described as an expression of desperation.
“She does have lovely hair,” you said, chuckling as James’s head made another lull to the side.
“She watches every quidditch practice, too. Every single one!” James was now motioning around, at what you did not know, his eyes growing wide.
“Maybe you’re jealous,” Dorcas teased. Remus snorted, watching as James’s ears grew a little red.
“I’m offended you’d even suggest that,” he said pointedly. “Dating Seraphina would be a bloody nightmare.”
“I don’t mean Seraphina specifically,” Dorcas scoffed.
James simply grumbled, pushing his tongue against his cheek. In front of Madam Puddifoot's pink painted shopfront, Sirius spotted your group loitering down the street. They soon began to walk over, Sirius’s arm thrown across her shoulders. James turned, following your line of sight before looking away with a new bout of annoyance.
“Fancy seeing you here,” Sirius said with a sharp smile, his eyes falling onto James.
“Hey,” was all he said back, meeting your gaze for a moment. You fought back a chuckle when he raised his brows a fraction, his eyes darting towards Seraphina before returning to yours.
“Hello,” Seraphina said, still a bit awkward around you all. Sirius took his arm from her shoulder, shoving his hands into the pockets of his leather jacket.
Lily greeted her back, followed by a string of others, though none as enthusiastic as her own.
“What have you two been doing today?” Lily asked.
James sighed, appearing drained by the conversation already. Remus elbowed him in the side, hidden by Peter who was standing in front of them. James huffed, scrunching his nose as he rubbed his ribs.
“Well,” Seraphina began, her eyes drifting away as she thought. “We just had a cup of tea at Madam Puddifoot’s. Though earlier we went to Ceridwen’s to inspect their new self-cleaning cauldrons. I had my doubts on their effectiveness, though Misses Greeves performed a demonstration of its properties. She even told me how they developed the charm—”
“Very interesting,” James said quickly, his curls bouncing as he hopped a bit from foot to foot. “Don’t let us hold you up, though. I’m sure you want to get back to your date.”
Sirius’s lips pulled to one side, challenging James with a stare. Something witty clearly lingered on his tongue, though he held himself back, narrowing his eyes. Seraphina glanced up at Sirius for a moment, seemingly unaware of James’s obvious efforts to get rid of them.
“Yes,” she said, stringing out the word far too long. “I’d like to go to Scrivenshaft’s. I hear they have a discount on all goose-feather quills. Goose feathers, I believe, are not as nice as swan, though they are better hawk.”
“Oh, I didn’t know there was a discount–” Lily began, though James cut her off.
“Have fun!” he said quickly, already beginning to walk away. Peter hurried behind, throwing up a hand to Sirius, tight lipped.
You smiled again at Seraphina, sharing an amused look with Marlene before you all began to move back down the narrow street.
“I’ll see you two later,” Lily called back to the pair with a wave.
Once you were a few shops away, James groaned. “Thank Godric we got out of there.” He turned to Lily with a scowl, shaking his head. “With that kind of talk, you’d get us stuck there for twenty minutes.”
“Don’t be so dramatic,” Lily said, frowning at James’s sour expression.
Dorcas chuckled. “Admit it, Lily, she’s the dullest of the dull.”
“What do you think they even talk about?” Marlene wondered aloud.
“Changes in weather,” Dorcas said. “And goose feathers, clearly.”
“Comparing their hair care routines,” Marlene offered with a snicker.
“Obviously not me. She still thinks my name is Dexter,” said Peter rather sadly. James howled in laughter, his glasses falling down the bridge of his nose. Remus slapped Peter on the shoulder in sympathy.
“Lily’s right,” you began, moving out of the way as a huddle of students passed you. “She isn’t that bad. Maybe a little boring, but nice enough.”
James grunted in disapproval. “She ought to learn Peter’s real name.”
“Yeah!” Peter said with a nod.
“You’re right, I can’t defend that,” you laughed.
You all stopped at Scrivenshaft’s Quill Shop for Lily, who actually did want to check out their rumored discount. You waited outside with James and Dorcas, leaning up against the stone wall beside the door. You continued to eye the clouds, hoping that the rain would hold off until you were back at the castle.
“So,” James began, throwing an arm around your shoulder. “Feeling better?”
You tampered down the lovesick grin that threatened to spread across your face, ignoring the weight of his arm. Your eyes ran over his cheeks, the curve of his jaw, the way his eyes were shining even in the dim light. He was looking at you, awaiting your answer with an easy smile.
“Loads,” you said. “Best day of my life.”

The Ultimatum Ch 36
Chapter 36
Everyone was awake bright and early at Grimmauld Place, much to Emeline’s dismay. Most everyone was talking excitedly about the new term save for her (and Ron, who also valued sleep) over breakfast. Tonks had popped in that morning to wish the kids a good start to the year, however she now found herself giggling (over what, Emeline could not make out), in a corner with Remus who was fixing tea.
Despite her fondness of Tonks and her hope that Remus would open his eyes, she couldn’t help but roll her own. A tinge of frustration crept in as she thought about how she’d be off to Hogwarts in little under an hour.
Couldn’t the flirting wait?
“I’ll be right back, Mrs. Weasley.” Emeline said politely as Molly filled her plate with bacon.
“Certainly, dearie.”
Remus glanced over his shoulder at his daughter but opted not to go after her.
His assumption that her nerves were just getting the better of her was somewhat correct, but he also saw George follow her quickly and thought it wise to give them space as he turned back to Tonks.
“I’ve never fancied tea much but Emeline is right: yours is excellent.”
Remus laughed, reaching for the back of his neck as he normally did when slightly flustered. “I don’t find I make it any special way. I’ve always wondered how it tasted different to her, truthfully.”
Tonks grinned and lowered her voice to a whisper. “I think it’s the intention behind it. Intentions matter, you know.”
Remus felt his face warming and offered her a smile back. “I do rather enjoy clear intentions.” He replied boldly.
Even Tonks was taken aback and stumbled over her words nearly as easily as she stumbled physically.
“W-well, as do I. What makes you say that?”
He studied her face for a moment before Arthur cleared his throat and they both turned to find all eyes on them. Emeline had already returned, holding hands with George and blinking rather rapidly between the both of them.
“Apologies. Don’t wait to eat on our account!” Tonks said quickly, stumbling over her feet as she rushed forward.
Remus caught her which added more fuel to the fire and warranted a loud snort from Emeline.
“Smooth, you two. Quite smooth.”
She took her seat next to George as Remus pulled out a chair for Tonks then sat between her and Emeline, his face red.
“Oh, dad.” She quipped, patting his hand on the table before turning back to George.
Neither Remus, nor Tonks, said anything else for the remainder of breakfast.
Barely an hour later, whilst Sirius pulled Harry aside, having escorted him to the platform as Padfoot, Remus handed Emeline her coat and Saffron flew from his shoulder to hers.
“You’ve got everything, darling?”
“Yes.”
“Books?”
“All of them.”
“Not just novels, sc-“
“-I have my schoolbooks.”
“Your robes? Your wand?”
“Dad!”
“Chocolate?”
“Not enough.” She relented with a laugh. “You always do this.”
He reached into his coat pocket and pulled out two bars to hand her. “I’ll always want to make sure you’re prepared. This should be enough for the train.”
She smiled and stowed them away in her own cloak.
“You and your girlfriend be good while I’m away.” She pestered, which brought about an eye roll from her father.
“I’m sorry about this morning; I wasn’t trying to be an embarrassment.”
“Nevermind that. It seems like it’s going well, though.” She replied encouragingly, moving past her momentary upset and not wanting to flood his mind with that.
He nodded and stood straighter, adjusting his coat nervously. “I think so. I still don’t know exactly what she thinks, but I enjoy talking to her.”
“Well that’s something.” Emeline agreed as the familiar whistle of the train pulled their attention.
“This is it.” Remus smiled softly, pulling her in for a hug. “I love you, pup. It’ll be a good term if you let it and you’ll be home for the holidays before we know it.”
She looked up at him as she pulled away and smiled back. “I love you too, dad. I hope so.”
When they stepped off the Hogwarts Express and toward the carriages, Emeline noted Harry’s curious expression. As she reached out to pet the Thestral on the snout, she quirked an eyebrow at him.
“What’s that? Pulling the carriage!”
Emeline seemed taken aback, as did Ron and Hermione.
“Nothing, Harry.” Hermione responded. “They pull themselves, like always.”
Emeline shook her head, realizing that her curious glance was in wonder of why Harry was confused to see Thestrals.
Didn’t everyone?
“You really don’t see anything? I do!” Emeline replied, her and Harry exchanging torn glances.
Suddenly, a girl in their year, but Ravenclaw, appeared with a whimsical glint in her eyes.
“I see them too!” She quipped, her blonde hair glistening in the moonlight.
The moon was always so peaceful when it wasn’t full, Emeline appreciated as they stepped onto the carriages.
When they’d settled in for the feast that evening, Emeline took her usual seat as close to the Gryffindor table as possible. It felt odd being back at school after the events of last year.
Cedric’s death still hung heavily over the hall like a dark cloud. All she could picture were chairs in place of tables as Dumbledore presented Cedric’s funeral speech.
She swallowed a lump in her throat and turned briefly to see George was already turned with his eyes on her. They shined with kindness and she smiled back at him as he mouthed: ‘I know’.
Glancing up, she noticed she’d spaced out for the announcement of their latest Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher. Ever the sore subject for Emeline, she rolled her eyes as she mandatorily clapped, but she truly could not believe what stood before them on stage.
Likely shorter than herself (which was saying quite a bit), and sticking out in bold contrast with bright pink robes and accessories, Emeline couldn’t help but laugh. This came out louder than she anticipated and earned her a glare from the new professor.
George took over the laughter as she sunk down into her seat, desperate that Umbridge would not put two and two together on who Emeline was.
When her delightful speech was through and the students were all sitting with their jaws hung slightly open, Emeline turned back to her friends to catch Hermione muttering something about ‘ministry interference’ and took a steadying breath.
Good term, my arse
Back by the fire at Grimmauld Place, Remus chuckled as he handed Tonks a cup of tea.

So. Good news, Remus and Lily no longer hate each other. Bad news, it's because Remus went to talk to her while he was under the love charm, so they kissed. Hope saw everything, once again, and is very upset. Immediately afterwards, Lily found out she's pregnant
Then peace didn’t last long: Sirius kissed Remus in front of Lily, and she accused Remus of cheating. She hates him again, although not as much as she used to
Harry came for a visit. His girlfriend has moved in with him, how cute!
Remus and Lily argued. She tried to walk away, but Remus didn’t let her, although he didn’t immediately continue arguing, he joked about werewolf shedding
Here's how Lily and Remus feel about each other:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Updated Black family portrait:
Tumblr media
Hope tried to set up a trap in the sink. James caught her and told her off. She tried to do it again, WHILE JAMES WAS IN THE SAME ROOM, and he took away her computer privileges. She tried it YET AGAIN, and he grounded her. She might be a bit stupid
She can't go to work because she's grounded. That's so funny
Hope got grounded so many times that the game got confused and let her go to work. She got a promotion. When she returned home, Remus told her off
Remus went to bitch at Lily, but she went into labour before he could
Lily gave birth to a baby boy, whom I named Monty because naming him Fleamont would have been cruel (honestly Monty isn't any better, I should have just gone with Fleamont)
Sirius wants to bite someone again. Should he? 🤔
It was Hope's birthday, so she's a young adult now. She's super cute! I kind of want to keep her around just to look at her
Here she is with bonus Remus:
Tumblr media
Monty was hungry, so Lily, James, and Sirius all went to feed him. Lily got interrupted by Remus, who wanted to insult her. Sirius made it to Monty first
Hope sneaks around as if she's still a teenager doing something naughty. I think the game got confused because she didn't have computer privileges, but right after she had her birthday, she went on the computer
Look at her sneak into her own bedroom:
Tumblr media
Okay. Remus and Lily no longer hate each other. Guess why. I'm going to wait and see which one of them will get caught by the other with their actual spouse
James used the love charm on himself and Sirius. Sirius went to talk to Remus, so that was resolved nicely. They flirted a bit, but when Sirius tried to kiss him, Remus rejected him. Meanwhile, James and Lily had risky sex again. She wants another baby
Also Remus was creeped out by Sirius after he tried to kiss him, that's hilarious
Remus found out that Lily had sex with James, and he went to yell at her, and now they hate each other again
Remus slapped Lily. Lily tried to calm him down. They had a physical fight, and Remus won. Then he went to eat and she went to sleep
Remus wishes to insult Lily. He doesn't usually wish to do that, he just does it on his own
Hope and Teddy played on the console together. It was very cute
Hope graduated. Right after the ceremony, Remus yelled at Lily. James was in charge of Monty, and gently lay him down on the school stairs
Hope asked her boyfriend over, and got her first kiss. Meanwhile, Remus slapped Lily, then made fun of her, then slapped her again before yelling at her. He stopped just to go and take a shower
Everyone wants to talk to Hope's boyfriend. His name is Joe, and he's wearing ridiculous jeans. Hope wants to have sex with him, but Sirius is talking to him about supernatural stuff
Remus is singing in the shower for the first time ever
Hope had sex with Joe for the first time, and it was unprotected. She's trying to be a young mother, it seems
It was the full moon, and Joe was horrified to witness Hope's transformation. He left immediately afterwards. Coincidence? Who knows, but he was strutting on his way out
Remus woke up super hungry. Before eating, he went to argue with Lily
It was Monty’s birthday, so he's a toddler now. Someone please explain to me why he's blond when his parents have red and black hair
It was Teddy's birthday. Remus cried. His little boy is growing up
Immediately afterwards, he tried to have a fist fight with Lily, but she was standing in his way
Teddy has such a handsome face, Sirius and Remus’s kids have the best genes apparently
Hope wants to teach Teddy to drive. I might keep her around for long enough to do that
Hope had unprotected sex with Joe again. In Remus and Sirius’s bed. What is it about their bed that attracts couples who are trying for a baby?
Also I made Teddy a genius because Sirius was hoping he would be
I started a new game in the sims (old game here). I replaced Peter with Lily, so this is going to contain wolfstar and jily, but focuses on wolfstar
This is copied from twitter, which is why it's formatted the way it is
Remus started the game by sitting down to contemplate the emptiness of life, while the others went to look around the house
Remus and Sirius are getting to know each other. Sirius thinks Remus is really hot, 9/10. Remus thinks Sirius is passable, 5/10. Remus flirted with Sirius, Sirius insulted his mother, and when Remus flirted with him again, he got turned down
Sirius is very excited to be interacting with a werewolf, though! Meanwhile, James is exercising and Lily is reading in bed
Sirius is chatting with someone online, banging his head on the keyboard. Remus is reading in James’s bed
Lily and Sirius are the first ones to make friends. Also at this point I can say I have made the executive decision to pair Remus and Sirius to each other. Good luck to Sirius, though, Remus has commitment issues
Sirius has taken up fishing. He might want to rethink where he goes to do it, though:
Tumblr media
Remus and Sirius’s excessive flirting ended up with them having shower sex. They were each other’s first kiss and first time having sex. They're still only friends, though
In this game, James is a firefighter. He's been working for 4 days, one of which was a day off, and he's already been promoted twice. He must be really good at his job
Sirius and Remus have finally admitted that they like each other as more than friends. They went on their first date, which was a huge success, and ended it with some disappointing sex. They're not in a relationship, though. Just crushing on each other
Remus contemplating the emptiness of life while on a date:
Tumblr media
Meanwhile, James and Lily have started dating. James wooed her with his sexy uniform and biceps
Remus and Sirius went on another date, and at the end of it, Sirius asked Remus to be his boyfriend, and Remus said yes! I did some renovating so that they and jily can have their own bedrooms with double beds. Until now, they've been sleeping in the same room in bunk beds
James is already on level 7 of the firefighting career, and he's only worked for 9 days. He was chatting with a coworker, after which he was creeped out. I'm not surprised, that coworker has seemed to have a bad attitude ever since James started that job
While I wasn't looking, James and Lily had sex for the first time. It was a disappointing experience
Lily was so spooked by Remus howling at the full moon that she walked into the next room and fainted. This is extremely funny because she had to go outside and walk across the veranda to get there (the house's floor plan is a mess because they're too poor for a proper renovation)
Nothing of much interest has happened, except James’s nicer coworker has quit her job at the fire station to become a performer, and during the full moon it turned out that she's also a zombie now. What the hell happened to her?
Sirius and Remus shared a kiss under the mistletoe. It was very cute
Sirius cried because his plants died. Then he cried about it again later. And for some reason he's wearing his formal clothes. Is it related? Only he knows
Remus likes to look out the windows. He'll wander from window to window to look out of them. He did it for hours when I didn’t stop him
Tumblr media
Sirius is awed every time he spends time with Remus because he's excited about spending time with a werewolf. They went on another date. It was a success

DATES WITH THE MARAUDERS
JAMES
takes you to a cozy kind of place in hogsmeade
probably just the three broomsticks or something
but it's nice, especially after the first time he tried to go over the top and messed things up Imao
doesn't put that much planning into it, but to be honest you both don't really care so long as you're spending time with each other
the date could be in the Gryffindor common room or the shrieking shack, it really doesn't matter
Ocassionally the girls and the marauders will crash your date but James will always make up for it, planning a different date that the others don't know about lol
Tumblr media
SIRIUS
muggle adventures!!
you and Sirius like trying new things
so often the date will be something weird sirius read about (what the hell is a carnival?) or things lily told him about (road trips are the worst.)
somehow Remus and James bump into you
it's definetley on purpose, though.
Tumblr media
REMUS
book-shopping!
it doesn't matter what book you're looking for, or if you even end up buying anything.
you guys like to find new shops to go to, but at school, there's a cute used books shop in hogsmeade that is much cozier than flourish and blotts in diagon alley, which always had a weird vibe towards it.
the two of you go to that shop so often that once you went there alone, gloomy and sullen, and the witch at the front desk said, "trouble with Remus, dear?"
Tumblr media
REGULUS
Regulus loves fancy dates.
every time it will be different.
even if it's somewhere normal
once, you had a date in the astronomy tower, and Regulus had bewitched fairies to twinkle like lights; also had a very expensive bottle of elf-made champagne and a fancy picnic basket with rare and expensive foods that were all delicious.
he also likes to spoil you during the date.
he'll always get you little bejewelled gifts or dresses that look like they could cost fourtunes.
and the date always ends with regulus walking you back to the girls dormitory in the slytherin common room, placing a kiss on your lips; it doesn't matter who's watching, and sometimes even joining you there.
he's very romantic lol
Tumblr media
LILY
Lily prefers study dates
though half the time you actually get work done and the other half you get absolutely no work done at all
for instance, she's often able to help you
with your homework.
other days, you'll just be distracted by each other
Like, she'll just stare at you randomly
"you're so beautiful,"
and sometimes you'll zone out while she's explaining your potions work
"Y/N, what's wrong?" and you'll just smile, "nothing. I just like your laugh."
she'll blush, but she'll hit you on the head with a roll of parchment, because someone has to be the responsible half of the relationship.
Tumblr media
MARY
apparently, there's this thing muggles do called ice-skating
you were dubious of it when you saw how large the blades on the shoes were
but when mary led you onto the black lake, which had been frozen over, you found ice skating was a beautiful sport.
you would fall over the first ten times at least bringing mary with you, because she'd insisted on holding your hand
bad idea
she doesn't get upset once, she laughs every time
except for the times you nearly maim yourself
but by the time you finally learn how to properly skate, it's already dark out, and you're gliding across the ice.
"I love you,"
Tumblr media
MARLENE
there's just something about Quidditch and high tea that screams a date with Marlene Mckinnon.
Marlene is fairly welloff, so after quidditch in the backyard (which consists of both you clinging on to your girlfriend's back on a broom and having several close-calls with a bludger), she treats you to a fancy high-tea
her living room is completely cleaned out, and the dining table has been fashioned into a fancy eating area
the food, finger things, an assortment of teas, macarons and sandwiches, are laid out in pretty little clusters, colour-coordinated when possible, on beautiful vintage turn tables, thanks to Marlene's house-elf.
the two of you try and set the mood by behaving very lady-like, but fail immensly.
you're exhausted and starving from the Quidditch, who can blame you?

Title : All I Ever Wanted
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Raven Black was miserable. He could hear his father and a random chick doing 'the thing', as Raven liked to call it. Three years, three months, and 5 days. That was how long Raven had been left to his own devices. Sirius Black was a player. And everyone knew it. Especially his son, Raven Black. He'd gotten worse after Raven's other father, Remus Lupin, was murdered by Lord Voldemort.
He'd had enough. He was leaving. Raven rummaged through his drawers, throwing his clothes and prized possessions into a rucksack, along with his Hogwarts trunk. Then he left. Out the door, down the street, and into the night, it was 3am when he reached the Potter-Black Household. With the new cuts and bruises from Ella Ilienn (No offense to anyone called Ella or anyone surnames Ilienn), he knew he was a sorry sight, but he was too weak to do anything about it.
Y/N PoV
Knock Knock Knock.
I was awake. I had had a nightmare, and was downstairs in the living room. Curious, I opened the door, and gasped.
"Ray, what did they do to you?" I whispered. He smiled weakly, and I gestured him to come inside.
"It's nothing. It just got too much, that's all. S'why I left. Listen, Y/N, any possibility I can stay here? Just until I can get my own place?"
"Raven, you can stay as long as you like. Wait here, I'll do your usual room."
I hurried upstairs to get his room ready and bring out the first aid kit. Rushing back downstairs, I went over to him and opened the kit.
"Ray, I've got to wake Dad and Papa, if you need help, call me." I said. He smiled and nodded.
"Thank you, Y/N."
"No problem."
I ran up the stairs again, and to Dash's room.
"Dash! Wakey wakey!" I whisper-yelled. He shot up immediately, then scowled.
"It's three am, Y/N."
"Dash, I need you to wake Dad and Papa. Raven ran away, and is in the living room." Dash got out of bed, going down to his parents room. Y/N went back to her cousin, and helping him patch up.
Just as Y/N was putting the last galve on Raven’s knee, Regulus came down the stars.
"Oh, hi Uncle Reg. "Raven grinned at his Uncle.
"Ray, stay still, it needs to dry. "Y/N ordered, making Raven grumble. Did cate do this? Or was there a new
"There's a new girl. Italian, and her name is Ella Ilienn." Raven sebuks
"I’m glad you're safe, Raven. "Regulus smiled softly, hearing the words come out of his daughter mouth. "Alright. "She clapped her hands together making Raven jump. "Go to bed and I'll see to Uncle Sinus tomorrow."
"There's no need-“ Raven said.
"Oh-there is every need!" Regulus had never seen Y/N so upset. "Your father's girlfriends should not be allowed to abuse you!"
“Y-“
"Oh, shut it, Raven." She scoffed." Goodnight Raven, Papa."
"Wow."Raven mumbled. Regulus let out a quiet laugh.
"Hate to break it to you, Ray, but she's right. "He said. "Sirius needs to know his son's getting abused by his girlfriends."
"Can we de it next week? My dad is busy this week, and I don't want him to be angry at me. Well, more than he already is.”Regulus nodded in understanding
"Alright. Next week. "They trudged up the stairs to bed.
"Oh, Y/N Harry, what're you doing here? Sinus asked in surprise.
"Shouldn't you know, Uncle Sinus?" Y/N asked impatiently.
"No?" It came out more like a question Y/N and Harry rolled their eyes.. "Well, where to start?" Y/N tapped her chin in mock thought. "Tell me, when was the last time you checked in en Raven?"
"I-" Sinus began, but Y/N didn't stop.
"Or cared to ask Wether He Was OKAY WITH YOUR GIRLS?”Harry stood to the corner, knowing his twins temper was like Regulus. Fear bubbled in the pit of his stomach, having experienced the temper many times, from both his sister and father..
"I-“ Sirius started again.
"Il est arrivé à 3 heures du matin ! SAVEZ-VOUS COMBIEN DE NUITS J'AI PASSÉ AVEC LUI À POUDLARD, PARCE QUE LES AMIES DE SON PÈRE L'ONT ABUSÉ ET IL A FAIT DES CAUCHEMARS À CAUSE D'ELLES ? IL EN PLEURE LA NUIT QUAND IL PENSE QUE TOUT LE MONDE DORT!”
“THE ONLY REASON I DON'T BURST INTO HIS ROOM AT NIGH IS TO RESPECT HIS PRIVACY hope you're happy, Sirius Orion Black.” She spat, sweeping out of the house with Harry in her wake.
Regulus, who’d darted on halfway, was ashen faced and looked ready to pass out.
“What did you do?” Dash asked his sister fearfully.
“I gave him a piece of my mind.” Y/N stated in satisfaction.

General Relationship Headcanons || James Potter
Request: “Please can you do a general relationship for james potter? xx” -anon
Word Count: 5,835
Notes: This is kinda slow burn, I’m a little sorry. The ones I did for Remus and Sirius were not canon so this won’t be either which is a little easier because no Jily. These keep on getting longer and longer, but part of that is because Jamie is definitely my favorite marauder.
Warnings: Smut, angst, lots of fluff, dom and sub James, momma’s boy Jamie
Masterlist
Tumblr media
You were something special
James had known that since he was 4 years old
It just took him a long time to realize exactly how special you really were
James Potter was an idiot
That would become increasingly apparent to him as he grew up
Your family and the Potters were great friends for as long as any of you could remember, meaning that you and James were practically attached at the hip
And who could blame you? He has such nice hips
The both of you are heart broken when he leaves for Hogwarts leaving you behind because you wouldn’t start until the following year.
All throughout his first year you guys write back and forth sharing every single detail of your respective days, down to the color of the plate you ate your lunch on
You can’t help but feel envious
There’s your best friend in the entire world, in fucking Scotland
Making new best friends
When the next year rolls around and you get to finally join James on the Hogwarts Express you want to hate Sirius and Remus
You really do
But how can you? They’re Remus and Sirius
You guys spend the entirety of the train ride laughing and talking and the other two boys tell you embarrassing stories from the year prior about James
When they hear your nicknames for him (Jamsie, Jamie, J), they make fun of him relentlessly
He calls you an assortment of cheesy nicknames too but his favorites, before you guys get together, are “Sweetheart”, “Sunshine”, and “love”
If you get sorted into Gryffindor James screams his head off for you, making room for you to sit next to him at the table in the Great Hall, opposite Sirius and Remus.
If you’re in a different house then James gets sad, really sad, like that night he cries into his pillow and Sirius has to climb into bed with him to give him hugs and tell him that its okay even if the two of you are in different houses. That doesn’t have to affect your friendship if you don’t let it.
The next day James would find you before you got to the Great Hall and engulf you in a hug in the middle of the corridor, not caring that there were people streaming past the two of you in either direction.
“We’re gonna be friends forever right (Y/N/N)?”
“I hope so Jamie.”
Even though you’re in different classes and potentially different houses you guys are around each other all of the time
You sit with him and the other boys at their place at the Gryffindor table
They sit with you in the library
And by the end of your first year you’re having sleepovers in their dorm
You sleep in James’ bed of course and Remus and Sirius do. Not. hesitate. To mock you relentlessly
“You and your girlfriend getting comfy over there Jamie?”
“Go to hell Siri, let me cuddle James in peace!”
These jokes continue through your years at Hogwarts and you and James take them in jest
As you guys get older the physical affection you share never dwindles
After someone made a crude comment in the hallway about the two of you he talked to you making sure that you were okay with the arms he would throw over your shoulders, the arms wrapped around you waist, the kisses to your forehead before he left the Great Hall for class, holding you in his arms in the Gryffindor common room as the two of you drifted to sleep.
You assure him that its okay, that its not weird because you guys have been best friends since forever and that you love how affectionate you are with each other
You don’t start to realize you feelings for James until he starts pining after Lily, you don’t know what you have until its gone, right?
Watching him stare at her in the Great Hall
Writing her little notes that even though he’ll go up and ask her out in front of everyone, which you’re not too fond of either, he’s too shy to actually give her
Listening to him go on and on about her, her hair, the cadence of her voice, the beautiful color of her eyes, how intelligent she is, and on and on
Sirius picks up on this instantly
And he does not hesitate to make fun of you for it all the time, obviously not enough for James to pick up on it because he’s a prick not a complete asshole, but still enough to make you blush uncontrollably
You can’t say anything to him though because he’s your James and there’s absolutely no way that he returns your feelings, you’re like a little sister to him
So, much to Sirius’ chagrin, you swallow your feelings and sit there by James, trying to listen to Remus as he tries to explain to you your Charms homework while James watches Lily on the other side of the Common Room laughing with Dorcas and Marlene
And a little piece of your soul dies
The summer between your third and fourth year, his fourth and fifth, you were excited to finally have your Jamsie back to yourself again.
It went without saying that the two of you would alternate between each other’s houses over the summer
There would be no Lily Evans to distract him
No exams to stress over
Just you and James at the Potter estate, exploring the woods that, in all honesty, didn’t change all that much from summer to summer, and swimming in the bioluminescent pond on the edge of the Potter property, simply floating next to each other on your backs, one of his hands grasping your forearm, making sure you didn’t float too far away from him
But apparently this year it didn’t go without saying.
Instead, a mere month before the end of the term, James regretfully tells you that he and his family are going to Spain for the summer to be with his aunt who lives there and he really wants to take you but its the entire summer and his parents nixed it
“I’m so sorry sunshine, I really want to take you but-”
“It’s okay Jamie, I get it if you could you’d take me, but you can’t so its fine. I’m not going to hold it against you.”
And you can tell that he’s genuinely upset about it but that doesn’t mean that it doesn’t hurt any less when you hug him goodbye at King’s Cross knowing that unlike years prior you weren’t going to see him in a few days.
You spend a good chunk of the summer wallowing, not necessarily because your crush isn’t there with you but because your best friend isn’t
James writes you every day just like he did during his first year at Hogwarts but its not the same because you can’t see him
You can’t hold onto his arm when you’re tired and set your head on his shoulder
So when September 1st rolls around and you finally get to see him again you’re down right giddy
But on Platform 9 ¾ you’re looking for a wiry, lanky boy, with a nose a little too big for his face, and a squeaky little voice
Not the 6 foot man who approaches you, with broad shoulders and budding facial hair along his jawline.
“Sunshine!”
Oh holy shit
His voice
He no longer sounds like a dog toy, a very cute dog toy but still
You must admit that you’re a fan of the change, as the word leaves his lips you imagine resting your head on his chest and feeling the vibrations as he spoke with whomever
Its not a single day that you’re back at Hogwarts before James is fawning all over Lily again and you’ve had enough of it
You’re not going to let yourself to keep on pining after a boy who doesn’t love you
Not even doesn’t love you
But loves someone else
Sirius finds you a couple weeks into the school year, sitting with your back against a wall in an empty corridor trying to hold in your tears.
“What’s wrong, love?”
“I-I can’t believe I let myself fall for him. I’m an idiot Si!”
Sirius holds you in that hallway, rocking you back and forth while he murmurs to you that James is the idiot, not you, and that you deserve so much more than him
He helps you concoct a plan to get over James, he pitches to you going out on a date with someone else
Doesn’t have to be anything all that serious, just something to get your mind off James and remind you how hot you are, and how many people are lining up for you to give them so much as a moment of your time.
It doesn’t take too much on Sirius’ part to get you to agree to let him set you up
His name was Sullivan, he was in your year, a year younger than Sirius, with sandy blonde hair and chocolate brown eyes
Sully, as he insisted you call him, took you for a butter beer at the Three Broomsticks
You had a good time, Sully was smart, and attractive, and you and he shared similar interests
And all though he was lovely, and he insisted you were too, the both of you agreed that you would be better off as friends
You spent more time with him in the following weeks and less with James, Sirius, and Remus
The latter two were very happy that you were trying to move on because watching you stare at James was a little sad
James is confused, and hurt, and jealous
Though he adamantly refuses to admit that last one
Instead he just watches you. All. Of. The. Time.
To the point where if it wasn’t James it would be disturbing
And even though it is him it gets touch concerning
Sometimes before you go and sit with the Marauders at their spot in the Great Hall you’ll stop by where Sullivan sits with his friends and give him a smile, talk for a few minutes before hugging each other and walking away
It made James’ blood boil
Who did this kid think he was, you were his best friend he didn’t get to just waltz in and take you, or Godric forbid date you
One day you’re sitting outside with the boys when you see Sullivan on the other side of the court yard, excusing yourself you walk up to him and chat for a couple minutes before Sullivan’s face goes pale and there’s a shadow looming over you.
James throws an arm around your shoulders, tugging you into his side while extending his hand to Sully
“Hi, I’m James, (Y/N/N)’s best friend.”
James is standing there with you guys maybe 2 minutes, being the most passive aggressive petty person he could possibly be, dropping not so subtle hints about his distaste for Sully before he’s tugging you back to the tree where Siri and Remmy still are, their hands resting dangerously close to each other’s
“What the fuck James!”
He plays dumb because if there’s one thing James Potter is good at its being an idiot, but eventually he relents
“I just don’t like the way he looks at you, it's like he’s trying to get into your pants!”
You start cackling
Borderline manically
“You’ve got to be kidding me James we’re just friends!”
Sirius being the eternally helpful human being he was added in his two cents, “Maybe you’re projecting Potter!”
And the laughing stops
James goes beet red, you feel all the blood drain from your face before collecting yourself and murmuring a quick apology before racing off for the castle
You and James don’t talk for 2 days
It's the longest either of you have gone without some form of communication
You’re both so embarrased and you don’t want to hear James tell you that he doesn’t actually like you and that it was just Sirius being an asshole
Of course he would say this to make you comfortable but that’s not what it would do
It would crush you
You don’t have classes together so it's easy to ignore him there, and if you’re in separate houses it's even easier
Meals
Now that’s a different story
You can’t just eat somewhere else and the prospect of facing James after what Sirius said has you running for the nearest toilet
So you scrounge up what you can in the kitchen after meals
It kills James that he’s only seen you on the other side of the courtyard or disappearing behind corridors
You’re supposed to be his Sunshine, he can’t stand that you’re hiding from him, he misses you so much
And at first he’s a little angry when you don’t sit with them at meals, but after scanning the Great Hall, he realizes you’re not there
His stomach drops, have you not been eating?
So dinner the second night he collects a plate for you with all of your favorite things and determinedly sets off for your dorm, balancing a plate in one hand and a glass of pumpkin juice in the other
He has to knock on your door with his foot
“Jamie, what’re you doing here.”
He gently pushes past you letting himself into your room to set the plate and glass on your desk
“You haven’t been eating.”
And despite yourself your heart flutters, because he’s right you haven’t been eating as much as you should’ve not wanting to get caught in the kitchens you only swiped what you could easily get your hands on
But then you have to remember, it's because you’re basically his little sister, not because he reciprocates your feelings
“I’ve missed you Sunshine.”
And you lose it
“Stop! Stop it Jamie I can’t take it anymore, you can’t keep calling me Sunshine and Sweetheart and Love and cuddle with me on the couch and then turn around and declare your undying love for Lily fucking Evans. I can’t do it anymore! I like you, differently than you like me and I can’t do this anymore!”
Poor Jamsie has never felt like more of an absolute asshole
You’d be lying if you said you didn’t revel just a little bit in the look on his face, didn’t feel a little triumph that maybe he felt even a fraction as bad as you did.
He’s an idiot and he realizes it
You’re both very quiet for a minute before he walks up to you so that you’re a mere inch from him before he gulps and leans down to press his lips to yours
“I’m an idiot.”
“Yes you are.”
“But I’m your idiot, right?”
“Always Jamsie.”
It's not as though much changes between the two of you on the surface once you’re together
You’re a bit more touchy feely with each other, kisses usually pressed to foreheads or temples often find themselves brushing at the other’s lips
He holds your hand a lot more freely now and more often than not it will end up clasping your thigh under the table in the Great Hall, or after having pushed your chairs together in the library so they touched
When you curl up together in the Gryffindor common room his hands find their way under your shirt, lightly tracing the skin of your stomach, pressing kisses to the junction where your neck meets your shoulder
His arsenal of nicknames expands impressively
Angel, darling, beautiful, gorgeous, poppet, pretty girl, mine
And he’ll add the occasional my before the word “love”
You already slept over in their dorm room every other night before you and James got together but now it's more of a nightly occurrence
Especially the day before a Quidditch match, James insists that he sleeps with his lucky charm, says you keep him calm
You cheer the hardest for James at his matches, bar maybe Sirius
Even if you’re in a different house you sit with Siri and Remus in the Gryffindor stands and get all decked out in red and gold
Now that you’re his he has no problem with Sullivan, he trusts you and by extension he trusts the people you trust
You’re touched one day, early on into your relationship, when Lily comes up to you in the Great Hall and tells you that you didn’t have to tell James to tell her that he was sorry for being a prick and not taking no for an answer.
You don’t tell her this but you didn’t ask him to do anything
James is just a good person
He also has an abundance of money and little impulse control
He’ll buy you literally anything he sees that reminds him of you, or if he remembers you bringing up that you wanted or needed it
He likes buying you jewelry because you can wear it more often than you could say the same dress or blouse
That’s not to say that he doesn’t buy you clothes too, he has all of your sizes memorized and knows whether you wear normal/petite/tall
James Potter will buy you pads/tampons/whatever product you use
He’s a man not a little boy and he doesn’t give a flying fuck if someone makes fun of him for it
One day Lucius calls him out for it and Jamie is just not having it
“You have no clue where the clit is or what to do with it do you Malfoy?”
He’s always helped you through your periods so now that you’re together he’s just more liberal with his touch because he knows how much you love it
He knows how to do basic hairstyles and such because he watched his mom when he was a little boy and watch your mom do your hair too
If your hair requires special treatments and hairstyles he will write to your mom, asking for her to teach you because he loves your hair and wants to be able to help you, like imagine sitting in his bed while he puts braids in your hair following the instructions your mom sent him
Speaking of families when he tells Euphemia you two are together (which he does as soon as he leaves your dorm that night) she literally screams
Fleamont was worried that she was being attacked
But the next day at breakfast you get a letter from Euphemia stained with dried tear drops as she poured her heart out to you, telling you how much she loved you and that if her son ever broke your heart you were to go to her immediately and she would deal with him for you
The year you finally become boyfriend and girlfriend is the year you all become animaguses
James tries to argue with you, insisting that you shouldn’t do it because it's dangerous and he doesn’t want you getting hurt
Your rebuttal is that isn’t it just as dangerous for him? And if you’re not doing it neither is he and that leaves Sirius which just wouldn’t end well
He’s so proud of you when you transform for the first time, he gets so distracted watching you that he forgets where he is for a moment
That summer, unlike the one previous, you and James spend all of your time together
You spend the entirety of the holiday at the Potter estate doing all the things that you and Jamie used to do when you were younger, only this time its better
Instead of being childhood friends you’re each other’s
You can kiss him, and hold his hand, and he can lift up your hair to kiss the back of your neck
Euphemia lets you guys sleep in the same bed but before that she sits the two of you down and gives you the talk
“Now (Y/N), I don’t know if your parents have ever discussed this with you but if you two are going to be sharing a bed I think it's important we go over it.”
There’s so much blushing and whining from James
“Muuuummmm.”
One night you guys are lying on the floor of his bedroom wearing the absolute bare minimum because it was so hot and humid out when you pitched the idea of going skinny dipping
James is hesitant at first because he doesn’t want to make you uncomfortable
But you insist that you’re fine and point out to him that it was you idea not his
Being the gentleman he is when you strip by the lake he looks away making you laugh
When you turn him to look at you his jaw drops
You’re even more gorgeous than he could’ve ever imagined
It's dark out but the light from the lake allows you to drink in your figure
He blushes so much you’d think that he was the one naked
When he does strip too he grabs you and jumps into the water, you guys are all over each other, running your hands up and down his chest, his hands are supporting your bum while your legs wrap around his waist
You have sex that night, for the first time, he was very gentle with you and holds your hand when he breaks you hymen and if you cry he kisses away your tears
“Do you wanna stop baby? Does it hurt too much? We can stop.”
James is one of two things depending on your preference
We have soft dom!James and sub!James
I personally appreciate a healthy mix of both
Starting with soft dom!James, he would be so gentle with you
Also very firm though, if you broke any of his rules he would not hesitate to punish you
He’s a thigh man through and through
Doesn’t matter if we’re talking dom or sub, the man lives for your thighs
Which makes his favorite form of punishment laying you across his lap to spank you, but most of the time his blows land on more of your thighs than they do your bum
He makes you count as he spanks you too and after every blow you have to thank him
“One! Thank you Daddy!”
And if you ever call him James instead of Daddy during sex he’ll stick his fingers in your mouth and make you choke on them, kissing away the tears that fall from your eyes, “S’okay baby, you’re okay. Can you do this for me? Can you take my fingers like the good girl I know you are?”
He loves taking you up against a wall, especially in the locker rooms after a Quidditch match
Shower sex is one of his favorites, thinks you look absolutely gorgeous, soaking wet and moaning for him, not to mention he get’s to fuck you up against the wall
This is the point in the headcanon where I urge you all to go read the blurbs by @randomoutsiders where Remus and Sirius teach James how to brat tame you, she captures his essence perfectly
He loves to blindfold you, he likes the little jump he gets out of you when he touches you
He gives you the most condescending mocking smiles
What comes to mind is the first time he makes you squirt, he’s so proud of both himself and you
“Good girl, look at that, look at how much of a mess you made for me angel. So pretty, good job.”
He then proceeds to lick the mess you just made off of you
He loves buying you lingerie
He likes it in a deep red and black
Loves ripping it off of you, absolutely adores it
After care with him would be so soft and sweet, he loves taking baths with you so he can clean you up and kiss all the places he left bruises while he murmurs to you about what a good girl you were and how proud he is of you
One night he tells you that if Godric forbid the two of you ever split up and you’re with someone else that after care is necessary and that you’re precious and deserved to be treated as such
He treats you like a goddess
Sub!James is just as precious
He’s also my current obsession so stick with me here
He’s just so eager to please, always wanting to make you feel good and not even caring all that much if he gets off himself
Just so centered around making you feel good
He calls you “Mommy” and I will not be accepting criticism
I feel like “Mistress” is too impersonal if that makes much sense
The former is just so intimate and James wears his heart out on his sleeve
James is rarely if ever a brat, usually when he’s disappointed in himself and he takes it out on you and you have to remind him how to be a good boy
And the rest of the time when he breaks a rule it's completely on accident and he’ll come to you and tell you about it to apologize
He feels so guilty, like he’s failed you
Especially if he touches himself without your permission, it's almost enough to keep him from doing it but he’s still a horny teenaged boy and can’t help himself sometimes
Most of the time though you’ll end up with a horny James knocking on your dorm door begging you to help him
He prefers giving you head than you giving him head
That’s not to say that the visual of you on your knees with his cock in your mouth isn’t appealing, it most certainly is
He just loves that he can make you feel that good with just his tongue
James also loves how you taste, tells you it’s better than candy
Which makes you smile like an idiot
Will finger you under the table in the library if you ask him to, it's not like he was paying that much attention to his homework in the first place, and even if he had been you are without a doubt more important
Loves it when you ride him
Absolutely adores it, he loves the way your tits bounce which is why he prefers cowgirl to reverse cowgirl because he can keep his hands on your tits and on your thighs
He asks you for a cock ring, loves that you get to decide when he gets to cum
Extra points if its a vibrating one
With his consent of course, you tie him up and make him watch while Sirius and Remus fuck the living day lights out of you, barely paying him any mind while you scream for the cocks of his two best friends
He likes being tied up in general allowed to look and only look
The first time you peg him he almost cries it feels so good
And you take his sniffling as a sign he doesn’t like it and that he’s hurt, he has to explain to you that that is not it and “You make me feel so good Mommy.”
His whimpers and moans are the most precious things and he’s very vocal
Screaming your name and begging you to cum
He is not shy to beg you
To cum
To make you cum
To get to so much as look at you
Baby boy has absolutely no shame
I especially like sub!James because he’s such a cocky asshole 90% of the time but he’s also the kindest, most considerate soul and he spends so much of his life helping others that sometimes he just wants you to be in control
Regardless of sub or dom James you were making out on his couch that summer, your hands in his hair, his fumbling with the clasp on your bra when there was a pounding at his front door
He makes you stay where you are because he doesn’t want you to get hurt but its just Sirius
Well not just Sirius
He was bloodied and broken and looked like he’d been to hell and back
When he told the two of you what happened, how he’d been disowned and had nowhere else to go, while Euphemia tended to his wounds James engulfed him into the biggest hug and they just sit there, Sirius crying into James’ chest while James ran his hands up and down Sirius’ back whispering to him about how it was going to be alright that he was safe, that no one was ever going to hurt him again.
About 2 or so hours after you’d all retired for the night, you and James snuggled together in his bed you awoke when the door to his room creaked open
There was Sirius, with tears streaming down his face, his bottom lip wobbling
After untangling yourself from James you walked over to him, taking his hand in yours and leading him over to the bed
“James, scooch over.”
“Huh?”
“Scooch!”
When he opens his eyes and sees his Sirius standing there, bashfully ducking his head he quickly moves over and you and Sirius settle into the bed with him in the middle
You and James pet his hair hold his hands while you tell him how much the both of you love him and how you’re never going to let anything bad happen to him again
You fall asleep that night with James spooning Sirius from the back and you with your body curled into Sirius’s front, his head resting on your chest
When you go back to Hogwarts you often end up in this position in their dorm room only add Remus into the mix
You’re a year behind all of them at school meaning that when they graduate you’re still stuck their for a whole nother year without any of them
And it nearly kills all of you
You and James most, though you write to each other every day it's still not the same as him actually being there with you
When you get particularly desperate to see him he apparates to Hogsmeade where he becomes Prongs and meets you in the Forbidden Forest where you basically just spend the entire time holding each other and telling the other how much you love them
He cries at your graduation, full on blubbers
“That’s my girl!”
Insists that you look better in your graduation cap than anyone else
Doesn’t relent when you tell him how ridiculous that is
You guys move in together as soon as you graduate, it’s barely even a discussion because you guys can always tell what the other is thinking
“Hey babe, do you wanna-”
“Yeah Jamie, when you wanna go look at apartments?”
He loves going shopping for your apartment, he has so much fun looking at color swatches and different fabrics
He insists that you guys decorate at least part of the apartment in Gryffindor colors
Wolfstar lives down the street from you guys and you have biweekly coffee dates together at a little coffee shop in between your two houses.
After a year or so you realise that you and James still aren’t married, and you get very self conscious
Does he not want to spend the rest of his life with you?
Does he not love you as much as you love him?
It completely eats you up
And James can tell that something’s up
When he asks you you confess your worries to him and his heart breaks
He never wanted to make you feel like he didn’t love you
Because of course he loved you
You were his everything, you were his Sunshine
After telling you all of this he goes rummaging through his drawers looking for something
That’s how you find him when you wake up to him accidentally dropping something results in a loud bang
“Jamie? Are you okay?”
When you find him he’s standing bashfully, blushing with his head down, his hands holding something behind his back
“James?”
And that’s when he gets down on one knee and pulls the small velvet box from behind his back
“This isn’t how I wanted to do it darling, but I spend every single day  thinking about you, you’re the first thing I think of in the morning and I fall asleep with you in my arms thinking about how much I love you and how I don’t know if I could live my life without you. I’m so sorry if I’ve ever made you feel differently, I can’t believe I was enough of an idiot to ever hurt you, in any way. Even though I most certainly don’t deserve you, would you do me the honor of making me the happiest man alive and marrying me?”
Euphemia plans your wedding with the help of Sirius
They go all out
There may or may not be a life size ice sculpture of you and James per Sirius' request
Married life is absolute bliss for the two of you
You wake up every morning with that ring on your bedside table (do people sleep in their engagement rings and wedding bands? I’m a child of divorce whose parents are both children of divorce, true love is a foreign concept) to remind you of the beautiful man beside you
Both sub and dom James go absolutely wild on your wedding night, he can’t believe your Mrs. Potter, that your his
Its that night that you pregnant
Though you don’t know it for almost 2 months
James is the best husband
He carries you everywhere, even when you’re not showing
And he can because fuck that man is strong
He’ll carry you upstairs at night and down them in the morning and to the sofa
You can only move by yourself when he’s not looking
James is really good at puzzles and putting things together so it takes him less than 2 hours to put all the furniture together for the nursery
Which he insists you paint yellow, the color of sunshine
One of the first things he buys is a little Gryffindor onesie for your baby
When he comes James has him in it all of the time
When you go into labor he’s very calm and collected
Euphemia is there to help the both of you because that’s the person he first called when you had your first contraction
He holds your hand the entire time, kissing you, and coaching you along, telling you how good you’re doing, how proud he is of you
He cries when he first sees his son, he’s so beautiful
Even though he’s basically the spitting image of James, Jamie swears that he looks so much like you
Once the doctors and nurses leave the room he climbs into bed beside you, throwing and arm over your shoulder as you cradle your little boy in your arms
“He’s beautiful Jamie.”
“Just like his mother.”

‘You got me some type of way
Ain't used to feelin' this way
I do not know what to say
“so, mates, i think m’finally getting somewhere with lils!” the tone of excitement thickly lacing the bespectacled boys words. “m’sure of it.” he continued, a bit of confusion in his words but still the same amount of excitement as before.
his brows were furrowed and he picked at the skin of his fingernails trying to relieve himself, further wringing his hands a few times before looking at his friends for their input.
“m’so— m’so happy for you, prongs. really, that’s great.” your voice faltering as you continued to speak, trying to scoundrel up a tone of excitement that would’ve played off well enough. instead all you were feeling stone cold truth of dejection.
But I know I shouldn't think about it
Took one fuckin' look at your face
Now I wanna know how you taste
Usually don't give it away
But you know I'm out here thinkin' 'bout it’
a fake smile plastered your face, trying to push back the tears that wanted to desperately prick at your eyes. you tried to further block them from escaping your waterline as you hear the boy jabber close to every single day about the red head he had been continuously fawning over.
the day went subsequently normal; potions, transfiguration, break period, plan pranks and dinner. but unfortunately for you, you didn’t have the privilege to share a messy dormitory with the four other boys leaving their conversations and discussions open about you and more your feelings.
“d’you think y/n was a bit off today?” peter asked abruptly from the place he sat on the oak wood floor, catching the attention of the three other boys who were seated on their separate twin beds. furthering to retain all memories of you from that day attempting to identify where you might’ve seemed ‘off.’
‘Then I realize she's right there
And I'm at home like, "Damn, this ain't fair"
Break up with your girlfriend
Yeah, yeah, 'cause I'm bored
“maybe a lunch a bit, she looked a little melancholy, i guess.” sirius answered this time, recalling the memory of you speaking in a very disconsolate tone. “y’think it’s anything major, or just stress?” he questioned again, beginning to worry about his close friend.
“dunno, i don’t think so.” the lycanthrope added to the conversation. he recalled james’ new confession about the red headed girl, and your extremely unhappy expressions following; of course noticing a bit at the time when it was occurring but just assuming you had a bad day with evan rosier pestering you for a date.
maybe... maybe she— but they’re best friends? his thoughts were extremely close to scrambled, remus was an observer, he was clever and sharp-witted; but this, he couldn’t figure out.
You could hit it in the mornin'
Yeah, yeah, like it's yours
I know it ain't right
“oi, y/n!” a deep voice called in the distance, putting your light jog to a stop in the middle of the courtyard leaving you to stand in the grass. swiftly turning around you were met with the taller fawn-haired boy, who looked tremendously determined.
“i’ve, uh, ‘ve got to ask you something, and it may seem foolish, but i think i just still ask you.” his voice hurried like his panting breaths from running across the school to find you, asking around the library and your dorm mates.
“yeah, moons, sure, anything.” affirming the boy who looked a bit confused, and worried but you didn’t know if it was for his sake or yours.
he grabbed your wrist in his palm pulling you on the prickly grass over to someone more private like to speak with you. “d’you— d’you like prongs? more than friendly...” the boy sputtered, further acknowledging your blown eyes like someone had just committed murder in-front of you.
But I don't care
Break up with your girlfriend
Yeah, yeah, 'cause I'm bored’
“i— uhm, well, that’s a bit— why d’you think— remus, what the fuck!” your words taking a halt every few seconds with a recurrent sputter trying to figure out where the question had even came from, or how he even knew.
“i saw— i saw the way you acted at lunch the other day. i jus’ wanted to know if it’s true.” he asserted, no present lingering touches of judgement in his tone.
remus knew what it was like to be judged, so whenever you had the urge to jabber out all of your problems he was the boy you had always ran too first. knowingly, or not. but he felt particularly disappointed in himself that you hadn’t trusted him with this potential secret.
‘This shit always happen to me (Yeah)
Why can't we just play for keeps?
Practically on my knees
“yeah— i do.” you admitted with a breath, guilt taking a pang at your heart. and anger taking a swig at your brain; how could you be so fucking stupid.
“remus, but you can’t— you can’t tell him, or anything.” your tone was hushed, and only meant for remus’ ears. feeling a tinge of embarrassment warm onto your cheeks, knowing someone you loved clearly didn’t reciprocate those feelings.
“i swear, i won’t. but m’here for you, i don’t want you feeling like you can’t tell me anything.” his words soft, and his tone genuine. why couldn’t you have fallen for someone like him? but instead, you crush on someone who was in love with someone else.
But I know I shouldn't think about it
You know what you're doin' to me
You're singin' my songs in the streets, yeah, yeah
Actin' all innocent, please
“c’mon, y/n.” he beckoned you to follow him, resting his arm on the curvature of your shoulder feeling his side press against your smaller one and guiding you to transfiguration with him.
why? why did you have to be so damn foolish? because it was her, with her beautiful red locks, her perfect maroon lipstick, her exceedingly amazing grades, her ability to be silly for a moment and loosen up. why couldn’t you be her? why couldn’t you have what she has.
it’s because it’s simple; you weren’t lily evans and you were never going to be.
When I know you out here thinkin' 'bout it
Then you realize she's right there
And you're at home like, "Damn, she can't compare"’
“guys! guys! she said yes!” james announced whilst scuttling across the mahogany floor of the common room. his actions at a halt flopping his body over the scarlet-red couch and a grin on his lips.
“who said what?” sirius muttered, glancing up from the map for a moment before looking back down in ascertainment.
“lily-pad! i asked her on a date and she was like, ‘yeah, fine, potter. but if you’re late i’ll kill you.’ just like that!” he pretended to play out the conversation for a moment, his thrilled movements and inflection almost animated from how happy he felt.
‘Break up with your girlfriend
Yeah, yeah, 'cause I'm bored
You could hit it in the mornin'
Yeah, yeah, like it's yours
I know it ain't right’
remus briefly glanced at you, concern swirling in his hazel irises, meanwhile, your eyes widened for a moment. you plastered yet another fake grin onto your lips, about to congratulate your crush on winning a date with his all time infatuation.
“prongs! oh my merlin, that’s amazing, i’m so happy for you!” putting on the best impression of exhilaration for your best friend, the act only remus could piece together and break apart.
“no way! prongs, mate, i knew you could do it!” sirius spoke, his tone fein for his best friend who had been in a pinning coma for the last few years.
‘But I don't care
Break up with your girlfriend
Yeah, yeah, 'cause I'm bored
With your girlfriend, girlfriend, girlfriend, girlfriend’
the boys continued to congratulate the boy, remus only giving him a nod and a smile. the marauders paying no mind to it and instead james merrily talking about the red head; his red head.
you weren’t his, and you never would be.
yet another realization struck you, the urge and need to move on present in your nervous system almost begging you to find someone else and to hide away from all the pain that could swallow you whole.
‘With your girlfriend
With your girlfriend, girlfriend, girlfriend, girlfriend
You could say I'm hatin' if you want to
But I only hate on her 'cause I want you’
you were now sat on the smooth ivory bedding that perfectly hugged your bed, remus’ body right beside yours. except you weren’t comfortable, you wanted to cry a valley of tears that could’ve lasted a life time.
“why is it her? why couldn’t he want me, am i not enough?” you spoke through broken sobs, feeling remus’ agile hands rub up and down the column of your back.
“you’re enough, y/n/n. he’s a bloody git for not seeing that.” remus spoke, sponging a kiss on your hairline. he felt the wet tears graze his shoulder, slightly contracting at the cold feeling but paying no mind to them as he comforted you.
‘Say I'm trippin' if you feel like
But you without me ain't right
You could call me crazy 'cause I want you
And I never even ever fuckin' met you
Say I'm trippin' and it ain't right
But you without me ain't nice’
“m’the bloody git! i fell in love with m’best friend who’s in love with someone else! next thing you know i’m accidentally setting dumbledores beard on fire, and accidentally spawning voldemort for christ’s sake!” your words mumbled and obstruct from the tears that had over come you.
you whipped your face free from tears for a moment, basically scrubbing the black colour of your mascara down your cheeks. “you’re not alone, you know? m’right here.” his tone, yet again, sincere.
you felt undeserving of his coddling, that your messy puppy love was so little compared to his issues. “i can tell your belittling your problems right now, you’re aloud to be upset.” he whispered, trying to assure you all he could, whilst disrupting you from your senile thoughts.
‘Break up with your girlfriend
Yeah, yeah, 'cause I'm bored
You could hit it in the mornin'
Yeah, yeah, like it's yours
I know it ain't right
But I don't care’
“merlin, she’s fantastic.” the brunette finished his third speech of the day on how ‘amazing’ lily is. yeah as if him pining after her wasnt enough, then what the hell was this?
the devil poking at you for cheating on your herbology test in first year, the time you accidentally tripped peter when rushing to potions, maybe it was the time you put belching power in sirius’ drink everyday for a week because he said you had a flat arse?
what the hell did you do to deserve this incessant torture that had been inflicted upon you. we’re you being dramatic? probably. but the boy you were quite literally in love with could not stop talking about how he wanted to ask another female to be with him, companionship, life, marriage, children. he wanted everything with her.
‘Break up with your girlfriend
Yeah, yeah, 'cause I'm bored
With your girlfriend, girlfriend, girlfriend, baby, girlfriend
With your girlfriend’
but then again it was also extremely simple.
he just simply didn’t want you.
he wanted lily fucking evans.
‘With your girlfriend, girlfriend, girlfriend, girlfriend
With your girlfriend’

for the drabble so....is this, like a thing now?
Hiya! How about a little bit of an outsider view of James and Lily? (Or Sirius is not sure how to feel about this new relationship yet):
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
“So is this… like a thing now?”
Next to him, sitting on the other couch, Remus’ foot connects with Sirius’ right shin.
“What?” Sirius asks defensively, not all regretting his question. There are things that a best friend is entitled to know, such as if his best friend’s presence at the Common Room will now come together with the presence of said best friend’s girlfriend, especially when they are sitting together on a couch far away from Sirius at the moment, lost in the own world.
“They are dating,” Remus says as if Sirius could ever forget it. The fact that James and Lily hold hands and share the goofiest smiles known to mankind make it obvious the fact they are dating. Also, all the snogging—seven years of mutual repressed feelings is not something to be taken lightly.
Still, Sirius hadn’t thought about the effects of all this dating in his own life.
Like the fact he can’t plan the perfect prank as he would normally do at this hour, enjoying the buzz of Friday night at the Common Room to hide their plans, when James is dating the Head Girl—never mind the fact that James himself is Head Boy.
But really, her status seems like something James should have considered before getting together with Lily Evans.
“I just wanted to know if they are going to spend all their free time together now,” Sirius says, shrugging, keeping his voice low. He doesn’t really think he has something to hide, but Remus always makes him feel as if he is doing something wrong—usually Remus is right about that.
“They are so sweet,” Peter declares, watching them without any shame.
“Yeah, it’s already giving me a toothache.”
“Nah,” Peter says absently. “You are just jealous.”
“What?!”
His cry makes people turn around to watch him, but while Peter flushes as if he has just now realized what he said, James and Lily continue in the obliviousness.
“Come on,” Remus says reasonably. “You are. And it’s fair, I mean, all James talks about these days is of Lily—”
“He always talked about her before,” Peter notes fairly.
“—but it will pass. I mean, this early stage of non-stop snogging, secret smiles, all in love, just the two of them.”
Sirius rolls his eyes. For someone usually so emphatic, he can’t believe Remus is seeing all the wrong signs here; this—James&Lily—is not something that’s going to go away so easily. Sure, they might want to rejoin society at some point like civilized people who don’t need to touch the other all the time, but all the rest is there to stay.
And he knows it because no one knows James as Sirius does, and Sirius knows his best friend is in love. Not the kind of passionate love that time consumes—but the kind that’s real, that James saw in his parents and that he truly believes in, the hopeless romantic he is. And Sirius would tease him about it and later maybe even advise him to keep a foot in the ground, if not for the fact that, despite all reason, it looks as if Lily Evans is just as hopeless romantic as James.
They are really the sweetest thing.
So, okay, James is now part of James&Lily—Lames, though Sirius is holding this joke until the best moment—, but he didn’t think this would mean James wouldn’t be part of the Marauders also.
He isn’t jealous; just feeling a little betrayed.
Then a shadow falls over him. “Hey, Padfoot, move aside.”
Sirius has a mind to give James an angry retort—James just acts as if he didn't leave them during dinner as soon as he saw Lily—, but before he can say anything, James just sits next to him, pushing him to the side as he pulls a book out of his backpack.
“Did you finish that essay for McGonagall? I want to be free this Saturday.”
“Oh, sure,” Sirius grumbles. “Let me lose my Friday night so you can have a free day with your girlfriend.”
“What?” James asks absently. “No, Lily has Charms Club tomorrow.”
“So you remembered your second option? Your old friends?”
James turns to him with an amused expression. That’s one of the things most infuriating about him ever since he started going out with Evans—nothing seems to upset him anymore.
“Don’t be silly,” he says good-naturedly. “It’s Halloween tomorrow, we need to finish our annual prank.”
This softens Sirius’ mood, but then, since she is never too far from him these days, Lily appears.
“Hey, you forgot your quill,” she says brightly, using the quill to tickle James. The laugh that comes out of James is one of the reasons Sirius vouches to never fall in love with anyone; love undignifies any human being. “What are you planning?”
James grins. “Who says we are planning anything?”
“I’m quite familiar with your Marauder’s face by now,” Lily replies and Sirius considers that love does make strange things; in other times, she would be furious with the idea of any Marauder prank, but now— “I’ve changed patrol schedules, by the way, so the dungeons should be free tomorrow between… five and six. Just so you know.”
James nods, winking at her, but Sirius frowns. “Why?”
“It’s Halloween tomorrow, isn’t it? Just make sure you are not seen around there.”
“We won’t,” James assures her, raising his head so they can share a soft loud kiss, ignoring anyone around them. “Thanks, Lily.”
She beams at him—an adorable beam as if to say “I can’t believe I love this dork so much”—, nods at the others and leaves to sit with her friends.
“That was nice,” Peter says.
“You really corrupted her,” Remus laughs.
They both look at Sirius. “Fine, Evans is not so bad,” he concedes. All things considered, he supposes there were worse people for James to fall in love with.

Chapter 4: Arguments
The rest of the afternoon passed as normal as the days before your arrival. Arthur Weasley made sure of it. Even if Molly attacked you with her dagger gaze when you and Bill hugged each other after you were done with dessert.
You didn’t know what Mr. Weasley had talked about with his wife while you were taking a shower, however, you noticed the tension rising from their bodies after you sat down at the table next to Bill and saw an annoyance sign on Molly’s lips. Her temple was frowned, reminding you of your own mother's gestures. Those flaming eyes, cleft chin, and pinion lips. Both women contract their features too much when they were upset and in your distress, you knew that they must not be disturbed.
The last thing you wanted was to hurt a marriage as solid as the Weasley's. More than once you heard your mother talk about it with your nanny making a powerful emphasis on how Molly and Arthur were able to carry out their marriage even if their economic conditions were precarious and the war was on their heels. They were an envied couple. Few dared to expand the family as much as they did without money in their pockets and spreading their progeny like a plague. No one was surprised, not even your mother, not when her marriage to Evan Grant was merely for financial advantage. Now Arthur and Molly looked upset, too upset for your understanding and you just hoped they could get along soon.
You weren't sure you deserved the sacrifice Bill's father had made for you, yet a flame of hope lit up in your chest. If Mr. Weasley started to trust you that was a good sign for others to do as well, right?
The afternoon continued as normal, seeing how Bill's plans to distract you from the fervent harassment of his mother was marred by the twins intervention. They had just finished a new product for their store and needed a good taster to certify the quality of their merchandise. It was a bad idea, he told himself, because twins were just a disaster and you didn't know them well enough to deny their good-natured pretensions.
"Be kind!" He yelled at them as Fred and George pulled you into their. Bill exhaled, pleading that his brothers wouldn't bother his girlfriend more than his mother already had.
Before taking you home, he thought about the pros and cons of your stay in the burrow. His conclusion was based on the fact that his entire family welcomed Harry Potter with open arms, so you didn't have to be the exception. He knew the difference in conditions in which his theory developed, yet he put his trust in the good judgment of his family even if the Grants' past left much to be desired. Bill didn't talk much about you with his mother, in fact, your presence at home was the last of his worries, the real problem came at the time of joining the Order of the Phoenix, would you be willing to fight against your relatives even if that mean betraying your own blood? Bill hope you will
Coming downstairs, Bill found his mother storing the leftover food in the fridge while the dishes soaked in the sink. Then he watched her clean each plate with her bare hands, no magic. William knew his anger was real.
"Want some help with that?"
"I'd love to, honey, thank you," his mother answered without looking at him. Bill raised the sleeves of his shirt to his elbows, dipping his hands into the tide of water and bubbles that flew across the kitchen. Molly was silent, drying the dishes and flying them to her place in the display case across the kitchen. Bill cleared his throat doubtfully "It never hurts to help, much less when I have so many things to do before the rest of the Order arrive"
"Don't worry, I'll help you with that too."
"Perfect"
"Mom, can we talk?"
"About what?
"You know what," Bill clicked his tongue, passing her the last plate from the sink to continue with the spoons. "(Y/N)..."
"Your father has scolded me enough about that girl, I don't need you to do it too"
"I wouldn't if you had a little consideration with her."
"More consideration?" Molly asked in a squeak. Bill shook his head. "I'm letting her stay at my home!"
"Our home, mom, ours," he corrected, drying his hands with a cloth. "This house also belongs to my dad, my brothers, and me. It's the burrow, a family property, not a secret club where some people can get in and others cannot."
"You know what I think of her"
"And you know I don't care." Molly looked scandalized at her son. She didn't understand what he had seen in someone like you or what you had given him to come out and defend you as he did "I don't ask you to love her, but at least you have to try...
"Have you ever wondered what will happen when she betrays us?"
"That's not gonna happen"
"You're very sure of that, William"
"I'm convinced, Mom. You don't know her like I do and, you know what? I see that wanting to talk to you was a mistake"
"Moody thinks like me," Molly stopped him when Bill was ready to go upstairs. The woman clung to the railing watching her son standing in the first step out of the kitchen "(Y/N) Grant is a danger to the Order"
"Really? Like Mundungus Fletcher? I beg your pardon, mom, but if there is anyone who represents a latent danger to the Order of the Phoenix, it's him and yet you have assigned him for the mission tonight"
Molly's lips parted and if it weren't for the fact that Bill knew her mother too well, he might think the woman was about to throw herself on the floor in a tantrum. Still, she clenched the bars tightly, her brow furrowed, and the redness on her cheeks washed over her forehead.
"William!" Don't talk to me like that!"
"I wouldn't if you had a little more respect for my girlfriend."
"Don't you understand? I care about you! For all of us!" She snarled angrily. "Having a Riddle in this house..."
"A Grant, mom, (Y/N) is a Grant and that's not the same." Bill descended his steps, approaching her mother, returning that angry look that she had inherited from him. It was a strange sensation. A dyad of emotions between joy and fear where the composed emotion was guilt. He had never exploded that way with his mother, but Molly hadn't behaved that way with anyone either "His grandfather is Lord Voldemort's half-brother and his brothers are all Death Eaters, what does it matter? (Y/N) is not. And when do we judge others by where they come from? If so, we could start with half of us. Being a Weasley is equivalent to being a blood traitor"
"William!"
Molly's face went from fury to shock to fury again. Bill's eyes were twinkling and Molly swore she had never seen any of her children this angry, or worse, this determined.
"What would you have done, Mom?" Bill questioned taking his mother by his arms in an attempt to make him feel her despair. Molly opened her eyes, scared. "When your family tell you not to accept dad? When your brothers object to your engagement, just 'cause the Weasleys have long been considered blood traitors?"
For the first time that day Molly's mind went blank, Bill guessed, rewinding the memories of how difficult it was for the Prewetts to accept the marriage. Bill pleaded silently, but pulled away from her when his mother gave no indication to be a little more respectful with you.
"We aren't like that. We don't separate people by where they come from, we hug them" Bill resumed his way towards the stairs, stopping a couple of steps up, turning to take a look at Molly's stunned figure "As you did with Hermione, Remus and Harry when you and Dad became his godparents after Sirius died. (Y/N) is no different"
"She will turn her back on us when the Order fight the Grants. That moment will come and you know it"
"Don't worry, i'll make sure that doesn't happen"
"She is not part of this family"
"That can be solved very easily," he said and the smile he wore gave her a terrible chill down her spine. "Because I'm going to ask her to be my wife."
Molly's gasp was the only thing Bill heard before climbing the stairs and heading to the twins' room. He always respected his mother a lot and even thinking of opposing to her wishes was inconceivable, but your well-being was something that was involved and Bill couldn't just let her mother control his life at her will. Maybe the mistake he made was not telling his parents the truth about you from the start or, in that case, mentioning that the woman he loved was the fucking niece of the strongest fucking dark wizard of all time.
Bill Weasley rubbed his face as he reached the twins' door. He no longer had to torment himself, it was done and the only thing pending at the moment was to get Harry out of his uncles' house, take him safely to the burrow and find the courage to do what he told his mother he would do.
Would you agree to marry him? He hoped so and if not, he wouldn't pressure you. You were young - even a little younger than him - and it would be understandable if you refused to tie your life to someone else's from one moment to the other. The war progressed every day and if you were going to do it, you would do it as soon as possible.
Loud laughings brought him out of his thoughts to observe you and his brothers sitting on the floor, right in the center of both beds, laughing at each other and touching your faces. From the doorway Bill can't see the full painted room, however George's face showed a rather abstract mural full of bright colors when he felt the presence of his older brother. Fred did the same showing his face in the same situation and then you turned to Bill, still laughing and your face smeared with paint. It seemed the twins had created a paint bomb in millimeter pills, that explode when you put a little bit of pressure. You tried to clean yourself with the sleeve of your sweater but you spread the paint even more. Fred and George laughed and so did Bill.
His heart swelled with love as he saw that at least someone in his family - besides him and his father - had hope in you. God, he may have even cried with happiness.
Bill never understood how a sunshine as beautiful as you was never accepted in your entire life.

Lily faltered. She had walked down to the common room to sit in front of the fire and read her new book, she was hoping no one was around at this time of night.
But there sat, the one thing she had been avoiding.
Sirius Black was lounging on the sofa, his head tilted back and his eyes closed. He wasn’t sleeping, Lily could see his fingers tapping up and down on the armchair.
She took a deep breath and walked over, curling herself on the other side of the sofa. She faced him, knees tucked under her bum.
She had always gotten along with Sirius, something about them both having a terrible home life, they often found each other sitting up late at night and sat in each other's silence comfortably. It was nice to not have to explain why she was angry or upset, like Black understood her need to be sullen and contemplative.
They hadn’t done this in a long time.
“He’s why you’ve been avoiding me” Sirius’ voice broke her out of her thinking. He had opened his eyes but his head was still resting on the back of the sofa.
“I’m sorry we didn't tell you” she whispered.
“I just don’t understand why he didn’t tell me.”
Lily pursed her lips. She had always found Sirius easier to talk to when it was just the two of them, he was actually very wise when he wasn’t joking around. She liked how he could smile at the serious moments while also throwing some sage advice her way.
“I told him not to tell anyone” she whispered.
“Remus knew,” he snapped.
He wasn’t lounging back anymore, he had lifted his torso off the sofa and was now resting his forearms on his knees.
“He figured it out, caught us one time” Lily said softly.
“My own boyfriend didn’t tell me” he muttered, “Why couldn’t anyone trust me?”
“We do trust you,” Lily said sternly.
He looked at her, his eyebrows drawn together.
“I asked James to keep it from you until we knew what we both wanted. I don’t think I could handle you being disappointed in me”
“Disappointed?”
“You were always the one to tell me to give James a go, what if I fucked it up? James has me on a pedestal, so do you! What if I tried to date James and it didn’t work? Everyone would blame me! James would never give up on dating me” Lily rambled, her nerves getting the best of her, the truth, her own thoughts spilling out.
Sirius looked at Lily bemused.
“You can’t honestly tell me that you were worried about disappointing me? Sirius Black?” His voice was teasing and Lily narrowed her eyes in response.
“Well I care about what you think, you’re my friend. Aren't you?”
Sirius furrowed his brows.
“Well yeah but James is my best friend and he didn’t tell me that he was dating the love of his life?” he balled his fists.
“It's only been a few weeks, we were still trying to figure things out before telling you properly. I think James wanted to prove that he was serious about me” Lily thought out loud.
“Only a few weeks?” Sirius asked, surprised.
“Yeah” Lily bit her lip, trying to keep the smile appearing on her face as she remembered jumping on James only a few weeks ago. She had been crushing on him for a while but was worried she wouldn’t live up to his expectations but then one day after their rounds, he had said something so sweet and honest, she couldn’t help but kiss him.
“You’ve only been dating for a few weeks?” Sirius' tone was laced with humour and got Lily confused.
“Yeah?”
“And you’re already shagging?” Sirius’ eyes were now sparkling with humour.
Lily bit her lip, stopping the laugh from escaping and encouraging Sirius’ teasing.
“I couldn’t resist?” Lily shrugged, giving him a smirk.
Sirius burst out laughing, his shoulders shaking, his hands squeezing his knees.
Lily couldn’t help but laugh along with him. That was the thing with Sirius, once he laughed, everyone was laughing alongside him, it was infectious.
“So you made the first move, not James?” Sirius said between gulps of laughter.
“Yeah, at first he kept trying to stop me from putting my hands down his trousers”
Sirius bellowed another laugh.
“Merlin, Evans” He huffed between small bouts of laughter.
“Will you forgive us? Forgive James, at the very least. He loves you” Lily said softly.
Sirius nodded.
“He loves you more though,” Sirius whispered. He was staring at the roaring fire, his elbows still resting on his knees.
“He really doesn’t'' Lily smiled. They hadn’t said the ‘I love you’s’ yet, and she knew deep down in her heart that James did love her because she loved him too. But the love he had was different, it was deeper, more cemented, he was his brother.
Sirius looked at her, one eyebrow raised.
“Evans, he’s been pining for you for years. I should have known that something was happening, he hasn't begged me to talk to you about him for weeks”
“He used to beg you to talk to me?”
“Yeah” Sirius huffed another laugh, “I told him I would only say something if you brought him up, I wasn’t going to force the conversation about that specky git” he grinned, his famous Sirius Black cocky smile.
“He’s pretty great though - James. I get why you love him so much” Lily said wistfully.
Sirius leaned back, finally relaxing into the sofa. His grin turned mischievous.
“You love him don’t you”
Lily faltered, again. She wasn’t going to tell Sirius before James.
“It's only been a few weeks,” she whispered, more to herself than Sirius.
Sirius nodded, but gave her a knowing smile.
“So -” Sirius perked up, his eyebrows wagging, Lily narrowed her eyes waiting for his usual mischief to make an appearance after such a look, “-how did he handle himself when he saw your starker's for the first time?”
All Lily could do was laugh. The type of laughter that made her bones tingle and relief rush through her chest. She was hoping Sirius wouldn’t begrudge her for telling James not to tell him straight away. Sirius Black was too good of a friend.
“Black, you should have seen his face. Never seen him turn so white” she said between giggles.
Sirius grinned, chuckling softly.
Lily yawned and picked herself off the sofa. She stopped behind the sofa, just behind where Sirius sat.
“Are you going to forgive him?” Lily asked.
Sirius turned and smiled softly.
“I’ll always forgive him Lils, just do me a favour?”
Lily cocked an eyebrow.
“Don’t tell him, I want him to grovel a bit more. He’s writing my Charms paper as we speak”
Lily grinned cheekily. Before she could reply, James came tumbling down the boy's staircase.
“Lils,” he said, shocked at her presence. His face lit up and made Lily smile instantaneously. He turned his attention to the room, finding his best mate sitting on the couch. Looking between the pair with wide eyes, he coughed awkwardly.
“Hey Padfoot. Um - uh-”
Sirius sighed loudly, and rather dramatically Lily thought.
“It’s alright you know, you don’t have to hide from me anymore - or did you get off on not telling anyone?” Sirius said, his teasing tone had vanished.
Lily narrowed her eyes but before she could say something, Sirius winked at her as James turned his gaze to his girlfriend.
Oh.
“Um, no of course not. Mate you know I wanted to tell you but we were taking it slow” James said with a sigh.
“Mhm, alright.” Sirius said, waving his hand dismissively.
“Look, let me help you with that Defense essay as well. I mean, it's the least I could do. I’m really sorry mate you know that” James rambled, pushing his glasses up his nose nervously.
Lily had to really bite down hard to stop her grin.
Sirius pretended to think about James' proposition, tapping his fingers against his chin.
“I mean, it's the least James can do,” Lily added, squeezing her boyfriend's arm. James turned to give her a tight smile, making her heart leap and second-guess this little joke Sirius was playing out. But then James turned to Sirius and Sirius smiled.
“Fine, I guess it's the least you could do. Maybe you could also name your first born after me?”
Lily scoffed.
“No way”
Sirius grinned at her.
“Ok, can I be godfather?”
Lily smiled, watching James nodding furiously.
“Who said we were having any children?” Lily joked, narrowing her eyes at Sirius.
James flipped his attention to his girlfriend, his mouth wide open. He was so nervous, flipping his attention back and forth between Sirius and Lily, Lily couldn’t help but giggle.
“Um-” James said.
“Better get to that essay, Prongs” Sirius nudged his friend up the staircase.
James nodded obediently before giving Lily a kiss on the cheek and running back up the stairs.
“Wait James!” Lily cried out, making James stop.
“Yeah?”
“Can I come visit you later tonight? Maybe we could practice making those babies?” She smiled innocently, trying to keep the laughter that was begging to be spilled as Sirius bellowed loudly behind her.
James tripped up the next step at Lily’s words, his face bright red.
“Fuck” she heard him mutter, “yeah, definitely, uh huh” he mumbled, giving her a sweet smile before running back up the stairs and too his dorm.
“Nice one, Lils” Sirius said, leaning over and holding up his hand for a high five.
Lily smiled before slapping her palm against Sirius, watching Sirius smirk and wink in return.

Harry Potter Masterlist        Masterlist
You and Remus had been dating for almost a year. You both kept it private for the sake of not being judged. More so you because you’re in Slytherin. Slytherins and Gryffindors don’t date, they aren’t friends, they don’t like one another. But you and Remus didn’t care about the stereotypes forced upon your houses.
“Do you want to tell people about us?” Remus asked. You were both in the Room of Requirement. It was in a library form but filled with muggle books and a small rustic table with a pot of tea on top. There was a couch in the far corner of the room, it looked a little worn down but it was rather comfortable. You had taken a small nap but Remus wasn’t tired so he just stayed awakened to make sure you were always comfortable.
“What do you mean? Like, tell your friends?” You were timid for a Slytherin but, proud of your house. You knew how people from every house would react to you dating Remus. You were more intimidated by his friends' opinions. The Marauders were ruthless with everything they did. The entire house of Slytherin was already mostly on the receiving end of their pranks, bullying, and belittling; but to be singled out by Black and Potter was something you would most definitely not enjoy.
“No, I mean everyone, the whole school. I know you think my friends will do something to you but they won't. I promise.”
“I trust you, but how do you know they won’t? What if they think I’m not good enough for you?”
Remus has never seen or heard you talk so down about yourself. “You are enough for me Y/N, if anything I’m not enough for you,” you were going to cut him off but he stopped you. “You know me and my biggest secret, and after knowing it you still wanted to date me.”
You finally cut him off, “Remus John Lupin I swear on Salazar Slytherin's grave that if you talk about yourself in such a  manner one more time, I will hex you into oblivion. You are perfect, everything about you is perfect. I love everything about you, even if you don’t,” you finished.
“Now I never said I wasn’t perfect,” he smirked.
“Remus!” you laughed.
“Really though, I want to tell everyone.” You both stared at each other before you nodded, “let’s just let everyone find out on their own, the news will spread quickly.”
* * *
Not a single one of your classes before lunch included Remus, so usually, you would both sneak away sometime during lunch to catch up. Now you’d be able to go up to him anytime you want without caring about anybody seeing. Sneaking away to somewhere private at Hogwarts during lunch had to be the most impossible thing you had ever done.
You had been in the library during your free period looking for nothing in particular. You did, however, find a muggle romance novel you had never read before. Pride and Prejudice seemed like it could be a piece of literature both you and Remus would enjoy. Also decided that this would be one of the best ways to reveal your relationship to the school, you were going to ask him if he wanted to go to your special tree at the Black Lake and read with you.
Briskly you made your way to the Great Hall and straight for the Gryffindor table. You could feel your nerves settling in but you didn’t let your face falter. You approached the table and caught sight of Remus and his friends as they were laughing about something,  not caring if they were irritating the people around them.
The silence in the hall seemed to diminish once you were behind Remus. Potter and Black looked up at you first and they both wore an equally disgusted scowl as they stared you down. “Remus?” you spoke softly, suddenly feeling timid. “I found a new book, do you want to go read it with me?” You failed to maintain eye contact with Remus as you continuously looked down at your feet and the book in your hands.
“What does this snake,” Black seethed, “want with you Moony?” Potter seemed to agree with him but Peter, who was sat next to Remus with Black and Potter on the opposite side, looked like he didn’t feel the need to contribute to this conversation.
Remus stood up and wrapped you in a hug whispering into your ear, “I’ll handle this, promise.” He turned towards his friends, “Guys, this is my girlfriend, Y/N, Y/N these are my best friends James, Peter, and Sirius.”
The entirety of the Great Hall was waiting for the reaction of ¾ of the Marauders. It was silent. No one spoke for what seemed like an eternity before James spoke up, “can we talk somewhere private?”
* * *
The Room of Requirement has once again aided one of your needs. On the journey there you were dreading the conversation that was about to happen. The five of you had been seated across from each without uttering a word for the past five minutes. You didn’t dare look up at the three boys across from you and kept your eyes trained on yours and Remus’ entangled hands.
“What is happening? How did this,” Sirius gestured at you and Remus, “happen?” Sirius leaned forward, resting his elbows on his knees. He and James seemed to be the most concerned with Remus dating a Slytherin. You were completely harmless but solely because you are a Slytherin, they automatically despised you and everyone else in your house.
“No matter that, why would you let this happen, Moony? A Slytherin? Really?” James stood up abruptly which caused you to jump a little. Remus squeezed your hand to reassure you that he was there. “Are you under a love spell? Is it amortentia?” he turned to Sirius, “I think she has him under a love spell.”
They both began whispering amongst themselves and Peter kept to himself on the couch. You decided it couldn't hurt so you gave him a small smile and he gave you one back. You were pleased that he wasn’t completely against you.
Remus stood up catching everyone's attention, “Prongs, Padfoot, Y/N did not put me under a love spell. She has been my girlfriend for almost a year; I think it would’ve worn off by now. I love her and if you two can’t accept that I don’t think I will speak to you for a while,” he finished sitting back down next to you.
“Remus you can’t do that, they’re your best mates,” you scolded him. You didn’t want him to choose between you and his friends, who had been there with him for a lot longer.
“The snake is right Remus,” Sirius was cut off before he could finish.
“Don’t call her that. She is not a snake, she is my girlfriend and I love her. I didn’t think you two could be so close-minded. And I will not sit here and listen to you two belittle her just based on the robes she is wearing,” he finished as the room went silent. “Come on Y/N, we’re leaving.”
“Remus, wait! We can work this out, mate!” James called for him but you both kept walking. He kept walking until we were at the Black Lake. He was first to sit down and lean against the tree, Remus pulled you down softly to sit between his legs.
“Can you read it for me?” His voice was soft. You didn’t want to bring up what had just happened or the fact that you still had classes to attend because he needed this.
“It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife.” You could feel his breathing slow down as you lay against his chest. His arm was wrapped around your waist, drawing random shapes on your side. You finished the first chapter and pulled out a bookmark before turning to face Remus. “Remy?” you asked quietly to not disturb him.
“Yes?” he asked, not bothering to open his eyes.
“I think you should speak to your friends, without me. I don’t want to be the reason you lose your best mates, Rem. They’ve been with you through everything, more times than I can count. You can’t end a six-year-long friendship over me, I won’t let you.”
Remus was quiet as you both sat there. He was playing with the grass when he gave you a slight nod and met your eyes. “I will speak to them. I’m sorry I upset you. And I’m sorry they spoke to you like that.”
“Remus all that matters is that you speak to your friends. I’m fine. I love you,” you finished, hugging him. He said it back and returned the hug. Remus stood up and held his hand out to help you up but gave you another hug.
What the two of you didn’t know is that Sirius and James had used the Cloak of Invisibility. They didn’t expect to see such an interaction. And they didn't expect you to tell Remus that he needed to speak to them. They had no time to dawdle and had to head back to the Gryffindor common room to listen to what Remus had to say.
* * *
Remus briskly made his way to the Gryffindor common room. Before you went your separate ways, he told you he would let you know how it goes. He was nervous to face the rest of the Marauders; maybe not Peter but James and Sirius had a vendetta against the entire house of Slytherin. When he entered the room the two out of the three boys were sitting down listening to James complain and watching him pace about the room. All three heads turned at the sound of the portrait door closing.
“Remus-,” James was cut off.
“I need you to have a seat and listen to what I am about to say.” James took a seat in between Sirius and Peter, waiting for Remus to begin. “Y/N is my girlfriend and I love her. She loves me for who I am, I trust her. I didn’t think you guys would react this way but this is exactly what she said she was scared of. I wish the three of you could just not care that she’s a Slytherin, she’s never done anything remotely evil, she reads and loves pastries.”
“I’m sorry,” Sirius started. “We’re sorry,” he emphasized. “We shouldn't have let this get out of hand. We trust you and your decisions, so we should’ve trusted you on this.”
“We shouldn’t have judged her so quickly,” James added.
“She seems nice,” Peter spoke.
“She is,” Remus smiled, “and I hope the four of you can set aside your differences and become friends.”
* * *
You were sitting in the courtyard working on your potions essay when two shadows loomed over you. Your eyes met with Sirius and James. Closing your book and putting away your parchment, you sat up a little bit straighter before speaking, “may I help you?”
“We wanted to apologize,” James spoke. “We shouldn’t have treated you the way we did and assumed you would be bad for Remus.” James kept his head, too embarrassed to make eye contact.
Sirius decided to speak as it seemed that James was finished, “we just want what’s best for him and if that's you, we have to get used to it. I hope we can set our differences aside and be friends.”
“Okay,” was all you said. You didn’t feel the need to scold them for their behavior, that wasn’t your place. The boys both nodded and walked away. You felt more at ease now that they didn’t dislike you. Your eyes strayed on the spot where the two boys had just been standing, not noticing another person who had just sat next to you. Remus watched you for a few seconds before clearing his throat. “They apologized,” you said, turning your head to face him. “I accepted it.”
Remus didn’t respond. You both sat there with your head rested on his shoulder watching as the sun gradually set. He stood up reaching for your hand. You both made your way to the Great Hall and toward the Gryffindor table. You were too tired to protest so you didn’t say anything. Your head was still rested against Remus’ shoulder even when you took your seats in front of the other three Marauders. You gave them a tired smile and they returned it.
Dinner continued rather quietly from your side of the table. Remus and you didn’t bother speaking to one another but silently communicated through facial expressions. He dragged you to the Black Lake for a moment before curfew set in. As you lay on his chest you focused on the way his heart sounded. “I love you,” you whispered.
“And I, you.”
