Submission Guidelines

Each entry should be a complete, playable roleplaying game in two hundred words or fewer. Coming in lower is fine, though you're welcome to try to hit 200 words exactly if you want an extra challenge.

This is an informal game jam; entries are not curated or judged, no eligibility rules are enforced, no winners are chosen, and the organising parties explicitly refuse to define the terms "word" or "RPG". If you wish to participate, you can follow these steps:

Step 1: If you're unfamiliar with 200-word RPGs, read a bunch of previous years' entries (linked above), or browse the 200 Word RPG Challenge archives at https://200wordrpg.github.io/ to get in the proper headspace. (Note: this blog is not affiliated with the 200 Word RPG Challenge; its archives are provided for reference only.)

Step 2: Write your own 200-word RPG. If you're not sure of your word count, you can use the counter at https://200wordrpg.github.io/wordcount to check. If you disagree with how this tool defines "word", feel free to use a different counting method – adherence to the word limit is on the honour system anyway.

Interest Check Results

thanks to everyone for their continued interest in the event! our interest check had 28 responses, with 24 saying they are eligible & would participate in the event. three people had potential concerns about ships and understanding the requirements which we hope we have addressed

we had ten people say they would pinch hit, which is wonderful as we will need a great group of pinch hitters available in case any issues arise! we will be preparing a pinch hitter signup form to go alongside the main signups on ao3.

the majority of you are fine with your fan works being remixed into a different canon, so for the purposes of the ao3 sign up form we will not be requiring you to separate your requests and offers by canon!

2000 words/clean lineart came out ahead as the requirements that were most popular with our respondants so those are the minimum requirements we will be setting for the event. minimum requirements for mediums other than fic and art can be reviewed by the mods!

although these questions had very narrow margins, the mods have decided to begin the event in the first week of December and have the creation period run for 80 days. This gives creators plenty of time to decide which fan work they are remixing. We will have specific dates soon.

Pre Release of Travel Show Thoughts

This might be a bit all over the place 🙈

Just some random thoughts after talking with my friends.

Remember when Hope on the Street came out and it was on Amazon Prime. I think many of us were thinking that was the end of the set shows, programs etc that were gonna appear on Disney+ from BTS.

We’ve had a number of shows from the group since Chapter 2

I kinda forgot about their Disney deal when the talks of Jikook’s travel show started to become real. My friends and I started guessing if it would be on Weverse only, like Jimin’s Production Diary or on YouTube like Suchwita & Jin’s The Drunken Truth. We were hoping and praying it wouldn’t just be one Bangtan Episode or on a South Korean nft platform like the HYYH series Begins ≠ Youth.

To be honest we hoped for a Jikook YouTube Channel (still dreaming for one🥲), where after service they could come back and carry on with more adventures and content, but we would have settled for Prime too.

I say all of this to say, how come it’s on Disney+ again after the switch up with the last HYBE show Hope on the Street being on Prime?

It makes me wonder about the start of the show’s planning. Like Jungkook said in Suchwita it was kinda spontaneous and following a years old conversation between Jimin & Jungkook. Them seizing the opportunity of the both of them being together in New York, after Jimin went to support Jungkook’s solo debut performance.

I wonder about if Jikook knew if their application for companion enlistment had been approved yet. Many have covered in detail the program and the kinda 1 in 100 chance of getting approved for it. BTS already have done many unique things and why should their military service be any different, all members aiming to at one point in time be serving at the same time and have all completed their service to not have to worry about it again?

Anyway back to the the point 😅. As all the members wanted to enlist and return as one unit in 2025 and with Jimin being in his last year of eligibility due to age criteria, if they hadn’t have been approved Jikook wouldn’t have been certain of being together for their 18 month military service.

It makes me wonder about their plans. If they wanted to create as many memories as they could in as many places as they could together just in case they weren’t going to be able to enlist together.

If they wanted to take the moments in between the end of FACE promotions, the little gap at the start of SEVEN promotions and the gap in between the rest of GOLDEN’s recordings, MUSE’ recording and also squeezing some more travel at the end of GOLDEN promotions, Jungkook’s Japan promotions and the Usher remix video Jungkook had to do straight after Japan.

It feels to me like Jikook knew that regardless of if they did enlist together, they wouldn’t have been able to travel as a duo for a long time as if we can take Jim as an example, the members will most likely be going straight into OT7 work mode once they complete their service in 2025.

It feels to me like if Jikook hadn’t have gotten their companion enlistment approved, the travelogue was a was to permanently keep record of the many memories they wanted to make.

That with everything on Jungkook’s plate it wouldn’t be feasible for one GCF Tokyo style video like before.

For starters their travels were on a much larger scale than their 2017 trip to Tokyo.

Not just one hotel in one destination, walking around the city, visiting some shops restaurants and Disney but multiple countries, multiple hotels, villas, camping, kayaking, yachting, skiing, indoor adventures, restaurants etc

They are way more globally recognisable than in 2017 where there were still some sightings but not as many as if it was 2023.

Jungkook and Jimin literally had to squeeze these moments in between hectic schedules tight time constraints.

It makes sense that they would utilise their company to help with areas to visit to help with descretion, with bookings, as they’d have to book out whole villas, hotel floors, activity locations etc. it makes sense that because they’d need security.

which was a gift to Jimin from Jungkook, where Jungkook planned everything, paid for everything, filmed everything and edited and uploaded GCFT, this time round it was for both of them. Not for one to have to shoulder the planning, payments, filming and editing.

How would they coordinate everything in the midst of recordings, rehearsals and flying around the world for international promotions?

Their company and staff are still a company, whose main directive is to make money, beginning and end of it all.

I’m sure the company are nice enough to the members but how would such time, resources and expenses be written off if Jikook asked on the company to help them with security details, with flight planning, whole hotel floor booking, villa bookings, closing businesses down for the duration they wanted to visit or opening ski resorts up a day early etc.

Yes they are millionaires but I’m sure we all know millionaires who earned from the bottom up and are sensible with their money. We all know the members and joke about how they’ll wear expensive watches and clothes but still fight over a rice cooker as a prize or Jungkook take home hotel toiletries or ingredients from run cooking episodes etc

So for the company and staff to help Jikook make this a possibility in the time the had before enlistment how would it make sense financially? How would it benefit everyone? We know Jikook love sharing with army, Jungkook’s lives of 2023 show us, their predebut days of vlogging to now show us, Jungkook’s GCFT shows us. They share.

So a show, sure, Jikook are used to cameras, the members are able to retain their authenticity through they years since day one of being in front of a camera.

That’s it, I’ll stop cos otherwise I’ll keep on musing forever 😅

To celebrate and promote DC/Marvel crossovers, we’re hosting a “fanworks of fanworks” event!

Participants create fanworks in various mediums of existing crossover fics. The idea is to connect a community of writers, artists, and appreciators of DC/Marvel crossovers.

How it Works:

Writers submit a bookmark of their existing DC/Marvel crossover work (one fic or series per submitting author) to an Ao3 collection. Writers will also need to create at least one fanwork (any medium) of another author’s fic, but that comes later; see step 2. After bookmarking your fic, complete this form.

You do not have to submit a fic to participate! Participants sign on to create up to five fanworks of submitted fics, within the following categories: playlist, art, collage/moodboard, remix fic, timestamp/sequel fic, and podfic. Details below. If you’re interested in fanworking (but aren’t submitting a fic) and you want an email with a ping once the submission period closes, put your email on the list here! 

Writers and fanworkers are encouraged to share ideas and promote each other’s work!

Guidelines for the Event:

Writers will be able to indicate which types of fanwork they’re okay with their fic receiving. Each fic submitted will receive at least one fanwork, but can receive up to one of each type. A fic cannot receive more than one of each type of work.

If participants choose to create more than one fanwork, they each need to be for a different fic — you can’t sign on to do more than one type for the same fic. Participants can do more than one of a type (as long as they’re for different fics). For example, you can do playlists for up to five different fics, or a playlist for two fics plus a remix for three fics.

Any crossover of Marvel and DC is eligible — no restrictions on content, pairing, or length. But keep in mind that if people don’t want to read your fic, it’s less likely to get multiple claims.

A fic with more than one author can be submitted by one of the authors, even if a co-author has submitted a different fic of their own. The writer who submits the fic is solely responsible for participation and fanwork creation.

Timeline:

January 1 - Fic submissions close; reading window opens! Participants are encouraged to read all the fics in the collection before choosing which ones they’d like to fanwork. 

January 14 - First round claims — for writers only, to guarantee that each fic gets at least one fanwork.

January 21 - Open claims start. Once your claim is confirmed on the Big Spreadsheet you can start creating/posting immediately.

February 29 - Tentative deadline for posting fanworks. If a lot of people express interest we may set up staggered posting dates.

Types of Fanworks:

All fanworks need to be posted on Ao3 using the “inspired by” feature. If you need help embedding images or whatever else, we can help you figure that out, but you do need an Ao3 account. 

Original art. Digital preferred, but if you’d rather create traditionally and then scan to upload, we can work with that. 

Collage/moodboard. You can use a simple grid layout, or get more creative with it. These should have at least nine elements involved. 

Playlist. At minimum, ten songs. These will get posted to Ao3 either using a screenshot of the track listing, by typing out each track name/artist, or embedding the playlist. You can also include cover art, explanations of why you chose each song, snippets of lyrics, links to each song on YouTube, etc, if you want to get more in-depth with it. 

Timestamp/sequel fic. Maximum 5000 words. Fill in a scene that takes place during the original fic but did not make it into the original story, or write a sequel. 

Remix fic. Maximum 5000 words. Put your own spin on the plot of the original fic. Keep the original characters, but you can add additional characters to a scene, or see how one character making a different choice would change the whole plot, or reverse their roles, etc. 

Podfic. This one is pretty self-explanatory. Ideally, podfic should be complete by the end of the posting window, but if you’re working with a long fic and want to break it up, make sure you have at least one chapter posted.

A/N: Finally! Finally it's here. I have talked to bestie @phenomenalgirl9 and changed the member to Hoseok because why not. Idk how is it, since the song is not really something I choose to hear. Hope you like it tho, my girl.

“Really? You asked her out?” your eyes go wide with Hoseok’s admission. 

“Yes. What’s with the expression, Y/N?” He chuckles, brushing off the evident displeasure on your face. 

“U-uh not-nothing. You are strictly ‘no string attached’ type of guy. So.. I am just surprised.” you look down on your lap. 

“I know right? But..” Hoseok looks away from you. His eyes wander in the empty space of the studio as if he is trying to picture her there. 

“She’s irresistible. She’s beautiful, she’s funny, her knowledge of music is better than anyone I have ever worked with. And her cooking.. Umm.. delicious. But above everything. She understands me, she matches my vibe completely and I- I love spending time with her, I just love talking to her about anything and everything.” he pauses for a bit and then continues to break your heart, “I like her, Y/N. I really do.” 

You stare at him and wonder how he could never see that he does all of those things with you too.

Yeah, you probably are not as beautiful as the woman in question but you make Hoseok laugh more than anyone else. You have been assisting him for the past two years because your knowledge of music certainly pays off. You are a decent cook and you never shy away from bringing new recipes that you experiment, which he enjoys wholeheartedly. And about talking.. Hoseok probably never counted how many late nights you have spent with him over phone calls, empty beer cans on the terrace, half-eaten cups of ramyeon in his studio, cold and stale fried chicken at his house, talking about everything starting from overbearing loneliness to the smell of fresh paint.

And still.. He doesn’t see you, even when you are always right beside him, always within his reach. Is it because you never climbed his bed? Is it because he never thought you were eligible enough for that?

Tears start forming in your eyes and unlike other times, you can’t blink it away. Your eyes are so heavy that it’s hard for you to even move your eyelids freely. And as a result, teardrops start falling on your jeans. The droplets get soaked in the material, providing them a darker shade than their original tone. 

It takes Hoseok a few minutes to make out that you are crying. And when he does, he starts panicking. 

“Y/N.. are you? Oh my god. You are crying.” Hoseok reaches for face. He cups your cheek so lightly as if you will be bruised if he puts too much pressure into it.

You move your face away from his grasp. Angrily wiping your tears away with the sleeve of your sweat shirt, you voice through your choked throat, “Yes, I am crying. But don’t ask me why. I might not be able to hide it anymore.” 

Partially being hurt as you moved your face away from his thouch and partially being confused about your behavior, Hoseok decides to pull the truth out of your lungs. 

“What? What are you hiding?” he asks carefully. 

A sarcastic laugh bubbles in your throat unwillingly, “Really? You are really asking me that?”  

“Y/N, I don’t understand anything. Please tell me what’s wrong. Why did you start crying as soon as I said I like…” Hoseok’s voice disappears in the thick air when realization hits him. 

“No way. No! Don’t tell me you-” 

“Yes. I am in love with you.” you finish for him. 

“But I know you have never looked at me as someone to be more than just a friend and an assistant. No matter how hurt I get seeing you with different girls every night, I sucked it all up, put a smile on my face and continued pretending that it didn’t matter.” you avert your eyes from him and stare at the ceiling, “but.. I can’t anymore. Now that you finally found someone to keep you company for more than just a night, I might as well move on and start afresh.” 

Hoseok’s heart hammers in his chest but he doesn’t know why. He knows you are right. He has never had any thought about what you and he could be. You are so precious to him that he protected you by drawing clear lines of boundaries. And Hoseok doesn’t like crossing boundaries, neither does he like when people cross them. But with you… he doesn’t know. He is not angry with you but with himself for unknowingly hurting you this bad. 

Keeping his eyes on your profile, he starts to speak, “I am so-” 

“Don’t say sorry. It’s not your fault that you don’t feel the same for me.” you cut him off. Even though your heart is shattered, you don’t want Hoseok to blame himself. “Can I ask for a favor tho?” you sigh. 

“Sure. Tell me what can I do?” Hoseok tries to reach for your hands but you move them away to wipe your face.  

"Can I take two weeks off? I need some time to calm myself down. We don't have much workload these days. So…" you mumble through your sniffles. 

"Y-Yes. Sure. You have a lot of piled up vacations anyway." Hoseok doesn't like the sound of it. What if you never come back? What if you leave this job? How will he even survive without his most competent assistant slash one of the closest friends? 

But he will let you go if that's what heals you. If that's what you want. That's that.

The guilt of hurting you has been eating him alive. But what's worse is your absence in his life.

No one pesters him for his meals anymore, no one seems to know how exactly he likes his coffee, no one knows which beat would work the best in the background, no one picks up his calls in the middle of the night, no one covers him with a blanket when he falls asleep in the studio.  

All of a sudden, he is empty. 

His late night fucking sessions are only a temporary diversion now. He hasn't seen the woman he seemingly likes after the conversation he had with you that day. 

He tried calling you and texting you but each time he swiped his fingers through the keyboard, your tear stained face flashed in front of his eyes and he stopped. 

Suddenly Hoseok realizes, it's you who is more important. But the question is.. what does he actually feel for you? 

He doesn't know the answer but maybe he will find it out when you come back, maybe he will understand what it is when he gets to have a heart to heart conversation with you over some beer or coffee. Maybe? 

But, Hoseok's hopes die and fears take the shape of reality when after two weeks your resignation mail comes instead of you.

You cried and cried and mulled over what to do for the entire first week. 

At the beginning of the second week, you went on a tinder frenzy. 

On the second day of the second week, you ended up on your tinder date's bed. 

On the third day you started crying over Hoseok again. 

On the fourth day, you started looking for other job openings.

On the fifth day, you get called on an interview and get the job. 

On the sixth day, you type out your resignation mail. 

And on the seventh day, you hit the send button.

On the first day of the third week, you find your doorbell ringing. 

You are about to take the very first bite of your meal but someone has to interrupt.

You are pushed into a half amazed and half confused state when you find Hoseok on the other side of the door. You thought he would be more than relieved to know that you have quit. It would be awkward to work together after your sudden confession, especially when you know Hoseok doesn't like certain boundaries to be crossed (which you have clearly done with no remorse), thus, you quitting the job should be the best option from Hoseok's perspective. So, what is he doing here? 

When you let him in, he looks grateful. 

"Hey, can we talk?" He whispers staring intently into your eyes as if he has missed getting lost into you. 

"Yeah.. sure." You reply with a small voice. 

"I missed you." His voice quivers.

"Me too." You smile a little. 

You don't know where this is going but if it's Hoseok.. you are ready to get hurt for years and years.

Sign-ups are open for MXTX Remix 2024 (@mxtxremix) right now and they close on February 9th. It's a gift exchange for people who already have MDZS, SVSSS, and TGCF fanworks, either art or fic. You can find details such as the eligibility rules, the FAQ, and the sign-up form itself on the AO3 collection profile.

I participated in the MXTX Remix event back in 2021 and it was a lot of fun! I ended up turning someone else's Canon Divergence Liushen fic ("tangled in the hanging tree" by technorat) into a Star Wars / Space Opera AU version of itself, in which Shen Yuan was a symbiote attached to Shen Jiu and they bickered a lot.

I also received "demons don't write what they know" from atarah, which is a Demon Liu Mingyan / Human Sha Hualing fic, inspired by my own Moshang Human/Demon Role Reversal AU.

It's on a shorter time scale than a Big Bang event, so you don't have to make a commitment half-a-year or more in advance: assignments go out on February 13th and assignments are due March 29th. The minimum requirements are also much more manageable: a complete 1,000-word fic or a clean piece of lineart. I think it's potentially a fun entry point into fan events if you've already start creating art or fic for one of these fandoms and are personally interested into dipping your toes into gift exchanges.

There is the pressure of transforming someone else's work into a gift for them, but it can also be fun to play with another fan's stuff, using someone else's story as a structure rather than starting from scratch. Though definitely not for everyone, it can also be interesting to open up your own work to someone else's transformation, and see what about your art or writing speaks to someone else. Examples of previous MXTX Remix works (2021, 2022, 2023) can be found in their parent collection: MXTX Remix.

Our Flag Means Death Remix

What is Our Flag Means Death Remix?

Our Flag Means Death Remix is a remix challenge hosted on AO3. What does remix mean? Well, in short, it’s an opportunity to ‘remix’ fanfiction and art you love! You retell or redraw the story, in your own words or style.

Fanlore has some excellent examples of what a remix can look like!

In the traditional remix, you’re assigned a specific person’s fic/art to remix. You must also have enough fics/art posted for whoever is assigned to remix your work to choose from. There’s a minimum word count (for fics) and a due date. In most cases, it will be a fic-for-fic and art-for-art exchange.

In the fuckery remix, it’s a free-for-all. Anyone can sign up, and fics and art can be posted for the duration of remix week (and beyond!), and there’s absolutely no minimum word count. Art-for-fics and fics-for-art are also allowed. 

Can I sign up for the traditional and fuckery remix? 

Absolutely!

Remix Criteria

To sign up, the works you want to be remixed MUST be hosted on AO3.

To be eligible, you must meet the following criteria:

You MUST have at least 3 fics, each at least 500 words long, for 'Our Flag Means Death' - if you want to remix fic/have your fic remixed.

The fics must not be collabs.

At least 3 of your fics MUST be SFW - not rated higher than an M - but your E-rated fics are still eligible to be remixed (unless chosen as a safe work).

OR

You MUST have at least 3 pieces of SFW art for 'Our Flag Means Death' - if you want to remix art/have your art remixed.

Please be aware, if you sign up as 'both' a writer and an artist, you MUST meet both sets of the above criteria.

Although we welcome remixes of E-rated fics, we don't want to put anybody in a position where they have no choice but to read Explicit fics when they may not want to We want to be welcoming to everyone 💜 SFW, in this context, is any fic lower than E-rated.

If you don't meet the above criteria, you are still eligible to take part in Our Flag Means Death Remix Fuckery 2024. You can also absolutely sign up for both versions of the remix!

Remix Fuckery Criteria

Just sign up if you'd like the chance for your works to be remixed! Anyone can claim a prompt, there's no minimum criteria to reach, and (if you select the option) you can receive a remix in an alternative medium to what you originally posted! Multiple people can remix for the same person if they so wish.

You can have as many safe works (works you wouldn't want to be remixed, under any circumstances) as you'd like.

Unfortunately, unlike Our Flag Means Death Remix 2024, there is no guarantee any of your works will be remixed.

Does Saturday Tasogare from vivid/stasis have a Ryu Number? I think that she will qualify for one (presumably a standard one ) when the Rhythm Doctor collab drops, but I don't know if she qualifies for one right now

Saturday Tasogare does not have a Ryu Number.

(UPDATE: The vivid/stasis/Rhythm Doctor collab has been released, and Saturday's appearance is valid, giving her a Ryu Number.)

Some historical context: this ask was submitted on October 12, 2023, which is around the time the Rhythm Doctor half of the collab with vivid/stasis was supposed to drop. Both "It Go (Cheryl Stelli remix)" and "All The Times" are available, right now, in vivid/stasis.

As of March 8, 2024, "Fixation Toward the Stars" is not in Rhythm Doctor, and even if it was, still a bit of an open question as to whether it would give Saturday a Ryu Number. For the sake of completeness, Cole Brew showing up in the art for "All The Times" is not considered an eligible appearance.

ML Square Dance — Rules and Application Guidelines

Welcome to the Miraculous Ladybug Lovesquare Remix Challenge! This event is designed so participants can reimagine a previously written fanwork utilizing a different side of the Lovesquare. This event will be split into two subevents: The Dance and The Buffet. The Dance will resemble a more traditional Remix Challenge with authors being randomly matched to remix another’s work, while The Buffet will feature additional fics that can be remixed by anyone. You may participate in both events if you desire.

Requirements for all participants:

Must be age 13 or older

Must have a Discord account

The Dance: Matched Participants

In order to participate in the Dance as a writer, you must have:

At least three published works under 10k that center around the Lovesquare

At least two of those works must be completed

At least one of those works must be SFW

Participants will be randomly assigned another participant's work to remix, and one of their own works will be remixed by someone else assigned to them. Matching will be completely random aside from being able to opt in or out of being matched with someone who has NSFW fics. You will have the option to choose from the 3 fics your Dance Partner offered and will be expected to complete the fic by the posting period. 

If you cannot complete your assigned remix for any reason, please reach out to a moderator as soon as possible so we can find a pinch hitter. 

If you complete yours early and want to do more, you are welcome to pick up as many additional fics as you like from the Buffet, but we ask that you finish your Dance first.

The Buffet: Free for All Remixing

In addition to the Dance, we are offering a Buffet of fics to remix for writers who do not meet the qualifications to be matched or who prefer not to be matched. The Buffet Line will be made up of fics offered by both Dance and Buffet writers. If your fic is on the Buffet, there is no guarantee any of your work will be remixed, but you are also not obligated to remix a fic. All participants accepted to the Buffet may claim any fic to remix, but only one person may claim each fic. Once you complete your remix, you are welcome to come back for seconds. Buffet participants may also volunteer as pinch hitters for the Dance.

In order to participate in the Buffet as a writer, you must have at least one posted, complete fic. This fic does not have to be Lovesquare or even Miraculous, we just want to see that you can complete a fic. You do not have to put any fics up on the Buffet to participate.

To be eligible for the Buffet Line, your fic must be publicly posted and centered on Lovesquare. You will have the option to allow NSFW remixes if you desire; fics that are already NSFW will be offered on a separate Spicy Buffet line. 

For the Buffet only, comics will be allowed in addition to fanfiction. The comic must have enough of a plot that it can be remixed into a fic and vice versa; single frame art pieces and short humorous pieces do not qualify. 

Betas

Betas will be screened as part of our application process. You will be given a short passage to edit to demonstrate proficiency in spotting basic SPAG errors. If accepted as a beta, you will have the opportunity to respond to writer requests. Once you have agreed to beta for a writer, you must follow through or you will not be eligible to participate as a beta or writer in the future.

Posting Guidelines

Fics that are remixed must be a minimum of 1,500 words.

Fics must be centered on the Lovesquare and must be centered on a different side of the Square than the original fic. 

Non-Lovesquare pairings that involve Adrien or Marinette may be mentioned but their presence should be minimal and cannot be endgame; side pairings are allowed but should not be the focus of the fic.

When posting your final piece, you will need to select ‘This work is a remix, a translation, a podfic, or was inspired by another work

If you ignore any of the rules regarding what you cannot remix or change in a work, we will not add your piece to the AO3 collection and we will not promote it as part of the Remix Event.

Your piece must be posted during the posting period to be eligible for future iterations of the event. If you post after the period ends, we may or may not promote your work. 

You may discuss your fic and match during the writing process, but please be kind and mindful of how you discuss other author’s works.

This is not a gift exchange and the way someone chooses to remix your fic may not align with your preferences. Likewise, you may remix a fic in a way that does not align with the original author's preferences and they are not required to interact with your remix.

If someone writes things that do not align with your preferences, you must still be respectful to both the person who remixes your work and the person whose work you remix.

You do not have to approve a link to the remixed work on your own work.
