Summary:

Really, with all his reading about transmigration stories, Shen Yuan distinctly felt he had been dealt a particularly bad hand. Not only was he trapped masquerading as someone with one of the more gruesome deaths in the novel, no—that person was still stuck with him, undoing all of Shen Yuan’s efforts to smooth over the villainous behaviour. It was maddening, and he could feel matched resentment radiating from the other person inside his head, signalling the arrival of a headache in the near future. 

Shen Jiu and Shen Yuan end up having to share a body when the latter transmigrates, with Shen Yuan being in charge during the day and Shen Jiu during the night. The system still exists, to both their chagrin, and they have to work together to achieve a happy ending for the both of them.

I can definitely agree with the feedback regarding the amount of unison. And while I feel like the unison movement is justified by the storyline in my head, I can now see how I could achieve the storyline in perhaps even a clearer way without the unison. Or example, Hayley made the suggestion to have the girl reflecting on the experience to step out for a section and simply watch the other girl as she moves. I thought this was a great suggestion I would love to play with. I also agree with the comment about the lack of variation in tempo. This honestly wasn't something I was really focused on while choreographing I think because I was so focused on the "senses" idea. This is interesting to me because 99% of the time I am totally focused on the music and this is the first time I wasn't attempting to vary it or change up tempos. I would definitely want to play with this in the future.

The Experiment

Most of you probably don’t know me, and a great chunk would probably don’t care. But let me tell you a bit more about myself. 

I’m a psychology graduate -- took it up because it’s fun. It has actually equipped me to survive the working world. Now while my career seems to be in order, my lovelife appears to suffer a whole lot. And because I felt like I have good enough knowledge to project-manage my career, I thought maybe I should do the same to my personal life. 

I started a small project years ago entitled Project Spaghetti -- origin of the name now eludes me. But the concept was that I wanted to see patterns in my choice of partners. It houses a great deal of data, dating as far back as 1999. It contains information such as:

1. Maximum Turnover - the longest duration I’ve been in a relationship

2. Turnover Rate - the average duration I change partners

3. Maximum Vacancy - the longest duration I’ve been without a partner

4. Vacancy Rate - the average duration between partners

5. Scatterplot of Intimacy Level versus Relationship Category

6. Standard Deviation of Age Gap

I’ve actually discovered a lot about myself after doing that study -- a lot of eye-openers and a couple of I-wish-my-eyes-didn’t-see-that. 

It got me to the point where I figured I need to make some changes in how I act in and view relationships. 

You see, I’m “dating” someone. The air quotes would tell you how confusing the “relationship” really is. And because I want to do it right this time, let me apply what I know at work and project-manage this partnership. So let me initiate the project first, scope it out, plan it right, and calculate the risk.

Relationship Study: Working with Senses

Senses Trying to create a section for each "sense" has been difficult, but the challenge has been an enjoyable one. Sight • This has been the easiest • The sight section starts where Ed would sing "all my senses come to life" • It starts with Rachel and I covering our eyes, we look at the ground, stumble backwards as if we cannot see and have a moment of intentional focus Touch • Also relatively easy • The most obvious choice when wanting to portray touch was skin to skin contact • This section begins on the floor with the left hand touching the collar bones and then falling down the arm. I also tried to take a moment of the foot intentionally brushing and coming in contact with the floor Hear • Interesting • This was one of my favorite sections to create. It starts with the ears being covered, the hand switching between covering ears. Then there is small section where the ear initiates the movement, followed by a double take as if the characters heard something familiar from far off Taste • Difficult! • This section was difficult because I didn’t want to be literal. I didn’t want there to be any licking or sticking out the tongue that would've been the weirdest thing ever. So while there are times when the hands cover the mouth I tried to create movement more based on the feeling of eating like the most delicious piece of cheesecake. Like the big attitude turn would be representative of that very first bite. That’s a super weird analogy but that’s what I was thinking haha. Smell • Difficult! • This section was also difficult because I did not want to be literal. I didn’t want to act as thought I was "smelling" something that wasn't there so again I tried to create movement synonymous with the feeling a great smell brings. The lifted shoulders, the pause, the fall to the floor were all movements for this section.
