Nobody’s Perfect and/or No Fate But What We Make!

No Fate But What We Make is a Benthan AU of The Terminator (1984), though aspects of Terminator 2: Judgement Day are present as well. In this AU, we begin in the apocalypse, which takes place in the present day. Ethan leads a resistance group called the IMF against Skynet, an artificial intelligence waging a genocidal war against humanity. In this group are Luther Stickell, Jane Carter, Ilsa Faust, William Brandt, and Benji Dunn. Ethan reports to Jim Phelps, who - during a raid on Skynet HQ - is revealed to be a traitor who helped create a Terminator (modeled after Solomon Lane) and sent it back in time to 1984 to kill Ethan in order to crush the resistance. Jim and present day Ethan and Luther are killed in the firefight that ensues, and Ethan asks Benji with his dying breath to travel back to 1984 and protect his younger self. Benji goes back to 1984, where Ethan is a student at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and finds Ethan. He and Ethan - with the help of a younger Luther - work together to kill the Terminator (and a younger Jim) and prevent Judgement Day, though at the cost of Benji's life (much to young!Ethan's devastation, as young!Ethan had begun to fall in love with present!Benji, who was in a relationship with present!Ethan). In an epilogue, Ethan - who founded the IMF with Luther - meets Benji again in the present.

- Did you truly think you could fool me and get away with it, Walker? - Sloane asked August, who was handcuffed into a chair in an interrogation room. They were alone in that room, but there were plenty of agents outside of the room in case their boss needed them to help to control him. August remained silent with his eyes fixed on her.

After the IMF played him to prove that he was the double agent, August allowed them to take him as a prisoner, only to allow the rest of the anarchist team to help Lane escape. They asked him many times about his location but August did not know the answer and even if he did he wouldn't help the CIA catch him. He knew that he was to value to the cause against The Apostles so they wouldn't get rid of him, and if they did it, at least his mission of freeing Solomon was a success.

- You won't talk, would you? Huh.- she questioned, raising an eyebrow- Well, let's see if I can find something that'd make you talk.- Erika said and grabbed his phone, dialled a number and after waiting for the person in the other side of the line to respond, she said "bring her in" while starring directly into his eyes. There was panic on them, anyone could have noticed it. He knew at that moment who "her" was.

Minutes went by and then the door opened. An agent grabbed you by your arm as he walked you into the room and as soon as you saw August, you ran into him. You cupped his face with your hands and press your forehead against him. He wanted to fight it. He should have pretended not to know you for that would have been the best for you, but as soon as he felt your sweet touch, he lost all the strength for resistance.

The agents in the room forced you to stand afar from him, not without a fight.

- Hurt her and I'll fucking kill you!- he shouted with burning anger. His eyes went from the agents to Sloane.

- Calm down.- the CIA leader ordered to the double agent- Tell me what I need to know and I'll set her free. Hell, if you give me all the information I need, I might consider pardoning you and allowing you to retire to live a happy life with this woman, but that's all up to you.- she offered him- So, tell me August, what are you going to do? He closed his eyes and looked to the other side. Erika sighed and gave a new order- Take her away and locked her. He quickly turned his eyes when he heard her complain about how the agent that was holding her was grabbing her too tight and made her hurt.

- Stop!- Walker shouted and Sloane looked at him. His white pearls were showing. Rage was written all over his face- You want Lane? Fine, I'll give him to you. I don't know where he's now, but I'll find him for you.- he promised her- But first, I need your word that you would let her and me go afterwards.- he said, looking at you and then his eyes were set on her again. -Fine. Considered it done.- she agreed after a moment of thinking. - She, of course, will stay here until your mission is fulfilled. Considerate a security deposit. Bring me Lane and the plutonium and you both are free; fool me and I'll kill her. Don't play with me August, you know me well.-she warned him and with a head gesture she indicated her employees to take you away- The sooner you complete the mission, the sooner you'll be back in the arms of your lovely woman.

He wanted to kill everyone there. He hated every single rat working there and he hated you. He had ideals he was fighting for...a better reality and he was about to give all that up to save you and to be with you. But, even the thought of hating on you hurt him: he loved you, more than anything. He hated himself to be honest. He hated how he allowed himself to fall in love with you and he despited himself for putting you in danger. Now was the time to make things right.

He had no idea where Solomon was, but he figured out that at least one of all the other double agents should know something about it. He found one of them and convinced him that he managed to escape or that was what he thought. The man set him a trap and a group of gunmen were waiting for him to kill him. August might be a big man, but he was quicker than he seemed. He took down the anarchists, leaving the one who planned the trap alive to make him tell him where Lane was. Walker broke the fingers of the agent's right hand, hearing his screams of pain, promising that the pain would get worse if he didn't give him the information he required.

Solomon was in a small medical camp on Siachen Glacier. He planned to explode the plutonium bombs there.

As August expected, Lane knew that Walker was a traitor. He had him surrounded by his subordinates as soon as he set a foot on the house he was staying.

- I did not have you as a weak person.- Solomon told him- what's the reason behind your change of teams?- he asked studying August's face- Let me guess, they found your lady friend, didn't they?- Walker's eyes were wide open now. He knew about her as well. - Yes, I know about her.- he replied as if he could read his mind- And I was going to finished her in you failed on the mission, but I guess they found her first.

That confession unleashed August's anger and with quick yet strong moves he took down the ten men in the place, leaving only Lane alive. He grabbed him and threw him on the floor, quickly tying him so he would no escape. After the call with Sloane, he remembered that he still needed the plutonium to complete the mission.

- What's the matter? Missing something?- Lane mocked him when he saw August focused on his thoughts. - Shut up.- he ordered him. - Do you think she's worthy of all this trouble? Tell me, do you seriously believe that you'll be able to live a happy life with that woman now that she knows what you have done? All those lives you took... people like her do no understand our mission. “There cannot be peace without first a great suffering. The greater the suffering, the greater the peace.” You'll suffer a lot her loss, true, but think about the reward. You still on time to do the right thing.- Solomon said trying to change August's mind.

- Raise your hands!- someone shouted to him. It was Ethan Hunt. He entered the house and was pointing towards Augusts with a gun. He turned around to face the IMF agent, as he did what he asked him. - I'm on your team, Hunt.- he informed him bitterly. - Yeah, sure.- Ethan answered with a short sarcastic laugh. - I'm being honest. Sloane sent me to bring her Lane and the plutonium.- he explained. - Why I'm supposed to believe that you're telling the truth?- he questioned. - Julia. - August said and he saw his enemy's eye open wide in surprise. - How do you know that name? -he requested both angry and afraid. - Don't you think I would work with you without making a previous research, did you?- he explained- Anyhow... you have your Julia, Sloane has mine. She will kill her if I don't give him what she wants. - That doesn't make you being on my team. Now surrender, I'm taking you both back to CIA.

To Hunt's surprise, Walker was quicker than he seemed and was fighting him even before he had a chance to blink. The men fight each other until August had Ethan's head trapped in his arm. The IMF hero tried to set himself free but couldn't for his arms were too big and strong. August realized that he needed to work with him if he wanted to succeed, so he had to convince him.

- Listen to me.- August shouted to the man fighting him to free himself- We need to work together. We can end this sooner and you'll save the life of the woman you love and I'll save mine. The CIA will soon be here to take him down and I'll go with them. You can come as well if you don't trust me. But I need to find the plutonium and give it back. If we stop fighting now and get to work, soon this will be over, otherwise, I'll have to kill you, because I won't risk the life of the person I love for you. - I cannot trust you, Walker.- Ethan pointed out. August sighed and grabbed his phone with his free hand and searched on his gallery, opening a folder locked with a password and then showed to Hunt. He looked at the photos: lots of photos of you - sleeping, cooking, laughing; pictures of the two of you kissing and hugging. The way August looked at you was what the IMF agent needed to know you were being honest. Your man trusted him because he knew that Hunt wouldn't allow an innocent life to be taken as collateral damage.

Ilsa Faust and Benji Dunn took the task of making sure Lane didn't escape while they searched for the bombs. One was found by Luther and Ethan's sidekick called him to let him know that the other explosive was on the house.

Lane's words were stuck in August's mind. He was on his way back to rescue you. Getting the plutonium and the anarchist was the easy part, making the love of his life, such a sweet woman to want to be with him knowing that he was not how he told her he was. He never lied to you since your relationship started, but certainly, he hid information about his other side. Could you forgive him for killing people? He knew that even if you hate him now, just the fact that you were safe was good reason enough for him to go that mission.

Sloane kept her part of the deal and released you and pardon him, with the condition that she would send people constantly to check that he was truly out of the game.

You ran into his arms and he pulled you closer to him, putting an arm on your back and the other in your head. After an inspection to make sure you were unharmed, he kissed you and pressed his forehead against yours. You hugged him tight and cry of fear for everything that had happened.

Two weeks later...

He bought a new house in a suburb using his life savings. He was used to renting apartments and move constantly, but this time he wanted a stable place for you two. After a long talk, he promised you that his anarchist days were behind, same for the CIA job. He would find something else to earn money and live a decent life with you. You, on the other hand, assured him that you would work hard to make him see the world through other eyes, so he could see why his previous belief was wrong. You'll teach him how beautiful the world could be.

Plot: Behind the Syndicate, there was an undercover organisation called the Widows, put together by Solomon Lane. During the events of Fallout and after Rogue Nation, Lane called out the group to take down the IMF. Emilia Kazakov was part of them but managed to escape. Chapter 3

Taipei, Taiwan.

Brandt, Emilia and Cassie’s plan was coming to life. Bobby Sharp was going to be at a music venue. And Emilia was going to act like a rockstar, whilst Brandt and Cassie were her ‘entourage’.

They were backstage in Emilia’s dressing room, getting ready.

“Are you sure I need to wear a mask?” Emilia asked, looking over to the mask maker that Brandt brought with him. “I don’t need one, do I?”

“We don’t need Sharp to know who you are, just in case he recognises you.” Brandt replied. “That is true. But are you sure that machine works? It is very old-fashioned.”

Just then, there was an error with the machine as it beeped and whizzed, smoking coming out of it.

“We have to go without, Brandt.” Cassie said, looking at the machine and back at Will. “Fuck. Just... change your hairstyle and wear a lot of makeup.” “Got it.” Emilia went into the bathroom.

After a few minutes, she emerged from said bathroom. Her hair was cut short and slicked back, with a bit of quiff. She also had a lot of makeup on, mostly eye-shadow around her eyes.

“That will do. Now get out there.” Brandt nodded at her, both him and Cassie following her to the stage.

When the small crowd applauded, she appeared on stage. She wore a black leather jacket with a white tank top, skull pattern on it. Dark leggings with diamonds going down the legs, and black leather boots.

“Once I had a love and it was a gas Soon turned out had a heart of glass Seemed like the real thing, only to find Mucho mistrust, love's gone behind.”

She began to sing and in an instant, the crowd goes wild and they cheered and jumped around.

Brandt was looking at the crowd from backstage and had his eyes on Sharp.

Sharp had long brown shaggy hair with clear and dark blue eyes, topped with a full beard.

Brandt noticed that Sharp had an eye on Emilia. He wasn’t sure if the feeling inside him was jealousy or something else completely. Or if it was the fact that Sharp knew it as Emilia. They didn’t know if it was Sharp or Walker who kidnapped her.

After her performance, Emilia quickly noticed that Sharp moved from his seat in the back. Cassie noticed it as well.

“I’ll find him.” She left backstage to find Sharp as soon as possible. Emilia walked off stage and into the dressing room to remove everything and put on a red dress and black heels.

Brandt was waiting outside for her and she emerged from inside. They quickly out of the back but some guards caught them. But Emilia pushed Will to a wall and was quite close to him.

“Well, this is awkward.” Emilia whispered to him, facing him. “Your... hands aren’t touching my waist, right?”

She raised her eyebrow at him. He smirked at her.

“Well --” “Shh!”

Emilia quickly wrapped her arms around his neck and pulled him in to kiss him out of nowhere. No tongues. Just lips. Brandt was surprised as his hands stopped touching Emilia’s waist. He then slowly put them back gently and kissed back.

She pulled away.

“Sorry. There was someone behind us being sneaky and creepy.” She whispered quietly, She then moved near his ear and said, “By the way, I kinda liked that kiss. Ethan was right.”

She stepped back with a smirk on her face, wiping away his.

Their pagers beeped with a message from Cassie saying she managed to get Sharp.

“What do you mean Ethan was right?” Will shouted to Emilia in Mandarin as she walked away, not giving away his cover.

Emilia just chuckled, her long red dress flowing down to her feet.

Back at the warehouse, the team had Sharp in handcuffs, attached onto a chair.

“Emilia, I thought it was you. I’ve been meaning to find you.” Sharp said, in a Russian accent and smirking at her. “You mean Lane has been meaning to find me? You and Walker are just ticking time bombs just waiting for Lane to betray you.” Emilia replied.

As Cassie and Brandt looked at Sharp, Emilia went and picked up a shotgun from the variety of weapons that were on the table.

“I know who you all are. MI5 and IMF. You cannot stop him. He is always one step ahead of you. He cannot be--” “Give me a good enough reason why I shouldn’t shoot you in the head right now.” Emilia interrupted his ‘great’ monologue.

They all kept a straight face as she held the gun in her right hand. “Fuck you.” Sharp replied, smirking once again, mostly at Emilia.

Brandt sighed as he said, “Can I just punch him please?” “Please do. He’s getting on my nerve.” Cassie added, her British accent shining through.

Emilia sighed and nodded at Brandt as she let Will punch him.

Brandt punched him in the face, Sharp wincing at the impact.

“You’re too late. Lane already has all 3 plutonium bombs and Hunt’s life is going to be ruined forever. Especially his relationship with his wife, Ju--”

Brandt got really angry and punched his face yet again.

“Don’t say her name! You’re disgraceful and despicable!” He shouted at him.

Both Cassie and Emilia was in shock as Sharp became unconscious by Brandt’s punch to the face.

“What the fuck did you do?” Emilia exploded at Will, putting the shotgun down and moved quite close to him. “Em, there must be a reasonable explanation for that--” Cassie tried to reassure Emilia but she was too fumed. “Shut up Cassie! He stopped him from giving viable information to us!” Emilia scolded.

Brandt sighed and sat down, rubbing the bridge of his nose.

“Please explain yourself, Brandt.” Cassie criticized.

(on writing the story and directing a movie simultaneously [excerpts])

Well, I learned my lesson from Rogue. Rogue, it took me months to come around to, why can’t I kill the villain? The answer to that question was because I don’t really want to. I don’t feel this abiding desire to see Ethan and Solomon Lane fight it out. The movie has become about Ethan and Ilsa and their relationship. The villain is the pressure that interferes with that relationship. It’s not really the core relationship of the movie. Now I was in this movie going, well, it took me months to learn that lesson. If I’m stuck, it’s because I’m going in the wrong direction. I’m not doing what Mission wants me to do.....

We shoot a bunch of stuff of Tom walking around. Next night, I come to work with the written scene. I hand it to Tom, and Tom reads it and he goes, “This is great. I’ve got a page and a half of dialogue.” I said, “Yes.” And he goes, “I can’t learn that in an hour. What are we going to do?” We took an index card the size of my iPhone and we printed all of Tom’s dialog on it. I put the camera over Simon Pegg’s left shoulder. Simon Pegg is holding the index card in front of his face. Like a human teleprompter, he’s watching Tom’s eyes and he’s raising the card so that Tom’s eyes never have to track down.

If you go back and watch the end of Rogue Nation, Tom’s reading all of his dialogue, which is literally smoldering hot from having been written an hour before. You’ll notice Rebecca Ferguson has only one line in the entire scene. I’ve never known an actress more excited to have only one line to memorize. She was like, “Thank you. Thank God I don’t have to learn anything.” She just got to sit there and watch these two guys work it out. Then of course the dialogue scene, because there were so many little pieces, we went half a night over. On the fourth night we had to finish shooting the dialogue and we only had half a night to shoot the entire gun fight. Then it started raining. That’s the kind of chaos that existed in Rogue. When you asked the question of what does the studio say, after having gone through Rogue Nation, the studio was like, “We don’t want to know. In color, in focus, July.” And I’m out. Probably predictable, but the Mission Impossible movies for the fandom ask!

my favorite female character: julia!!!! while i do adore ilsa i just. love julia. so much. i would die for her.

my favorite male character: benji, obviously, tho ethan is a very close second.

my favorite book/season/etc: definitely rogue nation, for…reasons. fallout has a special place in my heart for being the movie that reignited my interest in this franchise and opening this deep deep hole i’ve barrowed myself into. ghost protocol also gets an honorary mention for being the first mission movie i ever watched.

my favorite episode (if its a tv show): since this is a movie series i’m gonna say a favorite scene. which is just…the entire final bomb confrontation in rogue nation. i love it so much. (honorable mentions: “go to the extraction point, ethan”, “more than that, i am your friend!”, “……benji.”, and “i won’t let anything happen to you.”)

my favorite cast member: TOM AND SIMON IN CASE IT’S NOT OBVIOUS BY THE DIRECTION MY BLOG HAS VEERED OFF INTO WITH NO PREAMBLE FOR THE PAST TWO MONTHS but i do adore all of them.

my favorite ship: ethan/benji. hands down. nothing else even comes close. i do still love ethan/julia tho and i think it’s one of the healthiest m/f relationships i’ve ever seen.

a character I’d die defending: THE ENTIRE CORE TEAM HONESTLY, EVEN PAST ONES

a character I just can’t sympathize with: solomon lane can rot in hell for all i care. he is a fantastic villain tho.

a character I grew to love: it’s typically really hard for me not to just fall in love with a character within a few minutes of meeting them oops. but i guess…luther? since my first mission movie was ghost protocol and he didn’t have a large part in that, so i didn’t really have an opinion on him. but then i went back to watch the first 3 and fell in love.

my anti otp: ethan/ilsa. i desperately wish that they’ll just stay friends but who knows!! that said, i can dig it if it’s ethan/benji/ilsa.

ethan and julia have the absolute sweetest relationship ever even if it ended tragically. i’m happy that julia is happy in her new relationship but i love her and ethan so damn much.

i’ve read a lot of really good ethan/benji fics, so i really like them. also you cursed me into shipping ethan/hunley and ethan/luther with your magical writing and now i love them too.

most badass character:

most epic villain:

solomon lane. he’s so goddamn unnerving – everything he does freaks the shit out of me.

character i feel the writers screwed up (in one way or another):

only thing the writers screwed up (at least to me) was not bringing jane back for fallout and rogue nation.

favourite friendship:

oh god don’t make me choose… it’s probably a tie between ethan&luther, ethan&ilsa, and ethan&luther&benji. all of the friendships in these movies are just. so good. they’re so good.

character i most identify with:

i identify a lot with benji because i too am snarky and anxious about everything and would do anything for my friends (even if it meant complaining the whole time).

when i started shipping them:

the very second iceman came on screen and mav started smiling at him i was like “hmmmm this could be interesting” and by the time the solid five seconds of eye contact amidst a conversation fraught with sexual tension came around i was like “if they’re not in a relationship by the end of this movie i’m suing”.

my thoughts:

i fucking LOVE them. their chemistry in the film was unreal and i feel like they’d make a good couple because bantering and blatant sexual tension aside, they both really respect each other and i think that’s really important. not to mention their relationship smacks of “yeah he’s an idiot but he’s MY idiot” and i’m always a sucker for relationships like that.

basically if they’re not celebrating their silver anniversary by the time top gun 2 rolls around, christopher mcquarrie and i will be having words.

what makes me happy about them:

they just??? really like each other???

look at their smiles. this is the first time ice has really really smiled in the entire film. this is the first time mav has smiled since goose’s death. i love them.

what makes me sad about them:

the fact they’ll never be canon

things done in fanfic that annoy me:

there aren’t a whole lot of fic for them and the ones that are there are fucking stupendous but i’ve noticed that in some of them ice calls mav ‘pete’ and i’m just like??? no??? i don’t think that ice would call mav by his real name unless he was mad, and even then probably not.

things i look for in fanfic:

a word count over 1k. also fwbs-to-lovers (bc that’s the only way this is becoming canon) and hurt/comfort bc that shit rocks.

my wishlist:

that they become canon even though that’ll likely never happen. i’ll settle for them being friends in the sequel though (and that neither of them get killed off).

who i’d be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other:

i don’t really ship mav with anyone other than ice, though i suppose that could change once i see him interact with jennifer connolly’s character in the sequel. same goes for ice, even though i’ve read some good fics of him and slider.

my happily ever after for them:

that by the sequel, they’re coming up on their silver anniversary and teach at topgun together. also that they have a cat and a dog named after specific aircraft, and they act as uncles to bradley bradshaw (who is bewildered that people at topgun think that his uncle mav and uncle ice are super cool and intimidating).

It’s time for ‘Mission: Impossible’ to bring back Thandie Newton

Ethan Hunt did Nyah dirty and he needs to answer for his 2000s-era bullshit.

Some spoilers for Mission: Impossible – Fallout ahead.

The Mission: Impossible series is one of the rare cinematic universes that doesn’t put too much stock in its own continuity. 

The only common cast members in all six films are Tom Cruise and Ving Rhames. The movies rarely reference events that happened previously in the timeline. There are blessedly few Easter eggs sprinkled in. 

And it's that previous lack of dedication to worldbuilding that makes Mission: Impossible – Fallout such a different and interesting installment in the franchise.

To spoil just a few points in Fallout, one of the new characters in Ethan Hunt’s orbit turns out to be the child of a villain who hasn’t turned up since the first Mission: Impossible. The movie also finds a sincere way to close the door on Ethan’s history with his wife, who has been in hiding since sometime before the events of Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol. This is also the first Mission: Impossible movie to (kind of) have the same villain as a previous entry, with Sean Harris reappearing as the raspy-voiced international terrorist Solomon Lane. 

Now that the movies seem to be dipping a toe into exploring their continuity, it’s the perfect time for whoever makes the seventh film (and let’s be real, there’s gonna be a seventh movie) to do something very brave, very dope, and more importantly — very possible. 

Bring Thandie Newton back to Mission: Impossible.

Come on, it would be awesome. Newton’s character Nyah Nordoff-Hall hasn’t been seen since Mission: Impossible II, the John Woo–directed sequel that paired her up with Ethan Hunt for a jewel heist, a car chase, some espionage, and a... kind of weird ending where she almost threw herself off a cliff to avoid infecting the world with a super virus. 

It’s high time for Ethan’s first love to reappear and throw a Thandie Newton–shaped wrench in the works.

More importantly, it ends with Ethan and Nyah enjoying a romantic walk in the park, clearly in the beginning stages of a relationship that the franchise dropped like a hot potato in favor of getting Ethan engaged to his future wife in Mission: Impossible III. 

To be fair, watching II in 2018 makes for a slightly cringeworthy experience, since Newton’s  character is essentially pimped out to her violent ex-boyfriend so Ethan and his team can get inside information about that world-ending virus. While her character is clearly brilliant and capable enough to be a valuable member of Ethan’s team, she is reduced to a half-naked pair of ears for most of the second act — a trope that she somewhat reverses by sacrificing herself to stop the virus from being weaponized and becoming a hero. 

Weird sexpionage aside, Nyah and Ethan have tremendous chemistry together, and by the end of the movie Ethan is clearly bonkers in love with the brave woman who saved the world. So it’s a shame that whatever interesting relationship could spawn between a super spy and the world’s greatest thief was never explored. 

Now that Ethan’s wife is officially out of his reach and there are hints of Ethan having feelings for MI6 agent (and Rogue Nation alum) Ilsa Faust, it’s high time for Ethan’s first love to reappear and throw a Thandie Newton–shaped wrench in the works. 

This isn’t to say that Mission: Impossible 7 needs to have a love triangle to make things interesting. Every Mission: Impossible movie does and should focus on the things that make the franchise great, which are stunning action set pieces, Tom Cruise running all funny, and the inevitable triumph of order over chaos. 

The desire to have Nyah return comes from the emotional fallout of Fallout, one of the first movies in the series that spends considerable time exploring Ethan Hunt’s interiority and the effects of his past on who he grown to become.  

Hunt’s relentless earnestness is a hallmark of the character, and his almost irritating sense of duty and compassion appear in Fallout to be the result of his failures and regrets. Despite Nyah surviving her ordeal, the situation he put her in and their later relationship are two of his unexplained failures. Showing who Nyah became in the aftermath of her entanglement with Hunt would be an opportunity to showcase the master thief as a foil (or mirror) to Ethan’s personal development.

While the Mission: Impossible movies don’t love bringing back characters who factored into past missions (shout out to Paula Patton, Jeremy Renner, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, and a number of other actors who are nowhere to be found in Fallout), Newton has the current star power and franchise history to bring something important back to the story. 

She’s been kicking ass all over Westworld and briefly appeared in Solo: A Star Wars Story as a gun-toting space gangster. She’s come a long way from being the 22-year-old ingenue who dazzled Ethan Hunt in a bathtub — she’s an action powerhouse on her own, and her character has always been one who could keep Hunt and his team on their toes. 

Mission: Impossible is one of the world’s most lucrative non-superhero action franchises, and whatever comes next for Hunt & Co. is sure to be a thrilling, enjoyable adventure that nearly kills Tom Cruise on camera again. Newton deserves to reprise her role and take her place at the center of another story, preferably without any gross sex plots or incurable viruses. 

Bring Thandie back. Make Ethan face what he did to Nyah. And please, do it soon. That is my mission for the creators of Mission: Impossible...should they choose to accept it.
