summary: an unexpected article containing an appaling gossip is out. everybody wants to know who Jude's secret sweetheart is... warnings: none, maybe some misspells, I'm sorry, I'm writing like crazy to release some stress as of late...

You jumped up on you seat as soon as your eyes landed on the article. Your mouth wide open, you were hurriedly eyeing the words written in the most outrageous and presumptive manner. And the pictures too, how was it that the moment captured by lenses of a camera was showing such inconsistent image? Giving off the impression that everything described below might most likely be real. Your eyes turning wider and wider with every read word, you turned restless in a span of a second. You huffed analysing the photos, your lip nervously placed between your teeth, you were fuming. It perfectly presented your wide smile, little summer dress on you, his hand placed on your hip, he was looking down at you, his eyes engrossed in something you might have had said seconds before the picture was taken, delicate, tender smile upon his lips. It was indeed sending some kind of message. And you were furious.

“Jude” you called after energetically entering the living room.

His eyes shot up from his phone, he eyed you curiously.

“Have you seen this?” you approached him quickly, the screen of your phone practically in his nose.

He groaned, grabbing your wrist to steady your hand and fleetingly eyed the article. Not even giving it a proper attention. He didn’t seem bothered at all, your eyes widened at his reaction, or lack of it, truth be told.

“What about it?” he asked nonchalantly in a calm voice.

“What about it?! Can you see what it says?!” you screeched, feeling almost hysterical.

“I can see they called you stunning” he beamed at you, relaxing on the sofa.

“Jude!” you almost yelled “The whole world now believes that I am your secret sweetheart!” you accented the last two words using your fingers to present the quote gesture; these were in fact words used in the material.

He opened his mouth to comment on that, but you silenced him angrily with a quick flick of your hand and started to read:

“Now we can say that it is kind of unexpected turn of events for us. Jude Bellingham, an English professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for spanish La Liga club Real Madrid and the England national team, finally presented his secret sweetheart! Not yet spotted accompanied by any lady, despite many rumours of dating the prettiest lot of models and famous influencers, was seen strolling the streets of California with an… unknown beauty. We must say she is stunning, true pleasure to the eyes. And we are surprised, we’ve been hearing so much about his latest infatuation with the Dutch model, Laura Celia Valk” you could hear him scoff but you did not avert your gaze from the article, raising your voice to make sure he won’t interrupt you “But there weren’t any unveiled revelations about their relationship and now we can openly say – multimillionaire star has his eyes and attention somewhere else. And his eyes are full of adoration! We have it all on pictures! Just take a look and tell us this is not the most enjoyable view of a young love blossoming between these two. Why all this secrecy, Jude? Scream, shout and show your happiness to the whole world! We’re waiting for some more sweet content from these two!”

Your cheeks heated, your chest rising and falling in exasperation. You looked at him expectantly. You could see he was fighting a smile, the corner of his lip rising in a smirk. He was amused, you were vexed and anxious.

“When will all this shite with Laura end?” he frowned and you grabbed the nearest pillow placed beside him to throw it in his direction.

“It ends now because the whole of Internet will blow out with these pictures!”

“Wait a second, let me call them and tell them to delete it this instant. What was the name of the site again?” he leaned to grab the phone from you but you swiftly yanked your hand up.

“Be serious” you growled.

“We were on vacation, they were smart and took the pictures. It’s how media and paps work, there’s not much we could do” he shrugged, still way too calm about this for your liking.

At some point you were prepared that the ongoing, growing interest in his persona would make him more vulnerable and seen, followed. You knew people were very much interested in private lives of stars, especially the rising ones that were the hottest subject around, but you hoped that none of such assumptions would be brought regarding the relations between you two. It was a threat for your own life, your privacy. You feared the repercussions, yet somehow you turned a blind eye. And there you had the consequences. Right in your hand.

“What happens if Kit sees these?” you murmured looking away from your friend.

“Is he that insecure?” he mocked, but you didn’t answer him, your gaze timid and withdrawn as you looked at him briefly “What is it? You didn’t tell him who you’re friends with?” he asked in a simple voice, you stayed silent and a second after you could hear him let out an amused gasp “Ooh, were you keeping me secret, sweets?”

You sharply turned your head to spot a cheeky grin painted on his face. You started to look for that pillow once more.

“Why would I bring up the subject of Mister Jude Bellingham so soon? It’s very fresh, he’d probably end up pining over you” you spat, crossing your arms on your chest.

“Is your choice in men that poor?” he chuckled.

“Don’t be rude” you fought “Like your choice in girls is most tasteful”

“From that appealing article I’d say it is”

Your hands fell down your body and you squinted your eyes at him, agitated by his unmoved attitude and ignorance.

“You will not use me for your good press!” you hissed turning around with intention to leave the room, but Jude quickly grasped your hand before you stormed off.

“That’s not what I meant, y/n” his voice calm and gentle when he pulled you closer to where he was seated.

You stood between his knees, upset and worried, your head down.

“Come here” he murmured making more room for you to sit beside him.

Many thoughts kept raging through your brain. You’ve been thoughtless and silly, hoping that your lives would stay easy and uncomplicated no matter the odds. There was worry blooming inside you, but not exactly about your own self, your own private life; you worried such events would made you both have to choose. Choose to be close, or choose to finally part. You were fearful.

“What’s on your mind now?” he whispered, gently nudging your side.

“How can we be friends amongst all this?” you asked turning your head to look at him.

He had the extraordinary ability to calm your nerves with a soft blink of his eyes, delicate, reassuring smile and tenderness seeping into his gaze as he looked at you. You held it in highest regard, the fact that he always was your safe haven. It should worry you, it did sometimes, but you relished in it still.

“Oh no, don’t start with it” he whined with a funny look on his face “I’m not breaking up with you because of some gossips”

You snorted at his reaction.

“How will I be able to date if any man I meet would most likely compare himself to you?”

The sarcastic question made him laugh loudly and you slapped him briefly on the arm, feeling abashed. How infuriating this boy could be.

“Too bad for them” he shrugged “You can date me then, everybody thinks you already are” that added sentence making you scoff.

“Fuck you” you retorted.

“Sure, why not, we could start with that to break the ice”

“Jude!” you gasped in protest, adding a frustrated groan at his flippancy, trying to stand up from the sofa, but he was quick to snatch you back into his arms.

Your life would most likely complicate much more as long as he was present in it.

My first sexual experience is linked with a tragedy. What now?

Laura asks:        

       A few years ago in college I had drunk sex with a guy I didn’t really know, he was a friend somewhat from high school but not really. He had pretty intense mental health issues, did not seek help and, shortly after having sex with me, committed suicide. I did not know how to feel and still grieve every year when I can bring myself to feel something. It’s weird because it’s like apathy but the sexual feelings were so strong. I was a virgin before the sex, we did it when I was drunk because that was the only way I could feel comfortable having sex because of family values that were not the most open and accepting of sexual activity. Basically my family didn’t want me around boys at the time. Now family values have relaxed because of this death. How do I continue to honor this complicated relationship with my friend while also being accepting of the fact that my first sex experience continues to color my sexual experiences-not that I’ve had any (even kissing) after that guy who I broke all my first times with. More generally how do I continue with self love in terms of relationships when this one was so fraught?

This is a situation with many layers, so I’m not surprised you feel such a mixture of emotions, especially feelings of detachment.

First, I want to encourage you to give yourself space to recognise how challenging this situation is and how there is no template for what you’re feeling. This will hopefully allow you to accept the fluctuations in how you feel, from grief to apathy, with compassion for yourself and the memory of the guy who so tragically took his life. I hope this response can help you find some tangible ways to help process these different feelings and feel more in control of them.

In Western cultures, grief and grieving is still surrounded by so much taboo. This is partly because we are expected to fit all elements of our lives into time-sensitive boxes: x amount of time to spend on work, y amount of time for basically everything else. Grief does not fit a timeline or trajectory. It changes shape and induces a whole spectrum of emotional responses, all of which are natural....

Laura’s head lays in the other woman’s lap, eyes now open and gazing affectionately up at Celia as she reads. 

“I didn’t take you as one for poetry,” she murmurs, eyeing the small book in her hand somewhat suspiciously. 

“It is my own,” comes the succinct answer, surprising Laura further. 

“You.... write poetry?” the disbelief must have been clear, because the book is quickly closed, and though Celia peers down at Laura carefully, the latter can see hints of a flush in her cheeks. “... Did you write that about me?” 

“The first part was already written, I believe from the perspective of a man... I altered it...” the heat grows beneath her skin, and Laura chuckles softly; quietly. 

“... That’s.... sweet.”

For a long moment, silence lapses, each uncertain of what to say. when, finally, Laura’s lips part, there is a smile upon them.

“I’d like to hear more... if you don’t mind...”

That’s a toss-up these days. But topping the list: Rodney, Bear, Robert, Nate

3. What is your favourite episode of 4?

Unfinished Business (S3E09). They’re on the planet, needing to sort out frustrations in one way or another. Plus it was time Adama & Roslin really relaxed around each other.

4. What is your favourite season of 5?

Series 3. An arc over the eight eps involving Helen Bartlett (Nicola Walker). George Costigan also guest-starring. More of DSI Julie Dodson. Very well-written, performed, directed, etc.

5. Who is your favourite couple in 3?

Romantic: Caroline & Kate

Non-romantic: Caroline & Gillian - though there’s some definite pinging vibes there.

6. Who is your favourite couple in 2?

Anne Lister & Ann Walker obviously. 😆😌

7. What is your favourite episode of 1?

Given the serial nature of the show, it’s hard to pick. But at a quick pick, 12 October 2017 - when they put Charity & drunkVanessa in the locked pub cellar and let the sparks fly.

8. What is your favourite episode of 5?

S3E08. Gill is kidnapped by a drunk Helen Bartlett and forced to drive out of the city and out to the cliffs at Flamborough Head (Bridlington). Kevin gets the sack for being the tosser he is (this time for feeding confidential info to the press about the major case they’ve been working on), Rachel & Janet who’ve been at loggerheads over the past few eps now working as a proper unit together to help save Gill, doing what they do best. Also bringing in DSI Julie Dodson to oversee the situation, despite her being very worried about Gill.

9. What is your favourite season of 2?

There’s only been one series of Gentleman Jack so far...

10. How long have you watched 1?

Since late (Oct) 2012 - Emmerdale’s anniversary week. But I did go back to late 2011 (October) - eps were on YouTube for a while - and caught up to anniv week 2012 fairly quickly. Watching ever since. Occasionally, depending on life circumstances I will miss a week or so of eps but I’ll have them downloaded and when I get a chance will marathon them; easier to do with a show that’s ~21-22 min per ep (for most of them, unless they have a double ep).

11. How did you become interested in 3?

The cast line-up. Sarah Lancashire, Nicola Walker, Anne Reid, Derek Jacobi. I wasn’t very familiar with Nina Sosanya’s work pre-LTIH though I remember seeing her in other stuff. The story, though still not happy with the killing off of Kate. I love the dynamic btw Caroline & Gillian.

12. Who is your favourite actor in 4?

President Laura Roslin. For many reasons.

13. Which do you prefer, 1, 2, or 5?

That’s hard. I like them all for different reasons. Both Emmerdale & Gentleman Jack for the positive representation of WLW stories. Much needed, one in the past - which is based on real life factual data), and one present that’s had one of the best f/f love stories I’ve ever seen on a long-running drama. Scott & Bailey for the strong female lead dynamic (Gill, Janet, Rachel) in a police drama.

14. Which show have you seen more episodes of, 1 or 3 ?

One, definitely, given it’s continuing serial drama nature (5-7 eps per week, 52 weeks of the year x 7 yrs).

15. If you could be anyone from 4, who would you be?

Laura Roslin. Dynamic, strong, leader, charismatic, vulnerable when she needs to be.

16. Would a crossover between 3 and 4 work?

Not really. I couldn’t see a situation with Caroline dealing with a bunch of Cylons and a military structure. Gillian perhaps.

17. Pair two characters in 1 who would make an unlikely but strangely okay couple?

Emmerdale already did that with Vanessa & Charity. With a fabulous couple. Both have been on the show for quite some time (Charity since 2001, Vanessa since Dec 2012), built up their characters separately, their own family dynamics completely apart from each other. Oddly enough for a small village, they hadn’t had a lot of interactions. On a lark the producers decided ‘what if we put these two characters together in a wonderful soap trope nature (locking them together in the pub cellar with alcohol involved and some home truths). Charity was known to be bisexual, and Vanessa had already fallen (unrequited) with her best friend Rhona a few yrs ago, so it wasn’t implausible for these two. But, damn if it’s not the most stable, consistent loving relationship of the whole show. It works so well.

18. Overall, which show has the better storyline, 3 or 5?

Tie. Ironically, same writer for both shows: Sally Wainwright - also writer of show 2.

I love both for different reasons, they’re two different genres: police procedural vs family dynamics and coming out later in life. And aside from the erroneous decision to kill of Kate McKenzie, I did like LTIH. Still do. Both shows have wonderfully flawed, well developed female characters at the centre of the drama: Caroline, Gillian, Celia (LTIH), Gill, Janet, Rachel, Julie (S&B). If I was absolutely limited to one of them, S&B.

19. Which has the better theme music, 2 or 4?

Though I do like Bear McCreary’s instrumental score for BSG, Murray Gold’s Gentleman Jack opening credits theme is fabulous and the closing credits theme by O’Hooley & Tidow is a wonderful earworm to get stuck in.

How did they meet?

I’m not 100% sure on this, but I’m leaning towards the following, though it is def subject to change. 

someone ends up in jail because their case was lost. they have big money connections. call in favors. end up hiring a hit on Laura. 

Celia was the one who was hired. she does her due diligence, sees the guy’s a scumbag, and ends up giving Laura a tip. She still goes through the motions, but the authorities are contacted and shit works out somehow so that Celia’s gone and Laura is fine. 

Who flirted with who first?

oh god, this could go either way... 

Was it love at first sight or a slowburn romance?

Definitely slow friends to lovers type thing. 

Did they start dating right away or were they friends before things became romantic?

See above; I think Laura takes Celia out for dinner as a thanks for the tip, bc she left a calling card specifically for Laura to be able to contact her again. Celia fully expects this to go nowhere right now. she just thinks Laura’s good people. instead, she gets an invitation to dinner.

What was their first date?

I could say that dinner was their first date, but really they just chatted and Laura didn’t pry, she just tried to be friendly and it was a little awkward.

Anyways their actual first date is a masquerade bc I’m a fucking sucker. It’s not officially a date until later in the evening, after Laura kisses Celia who is meant to be protection bc Laura was getting death threats.

What are their favourite things to do on date nights?

 Probably staying at home, popping on a movie, and shoo-ing Bridget to go elsewhere for the night so they can snuggle. Sometimes they have late night movies with the kids too, but lbr, they prefer without a good chunk of the time.

Do they still go on dates after being together for a while.

Yes, but they def get more infrequent after a bit. They plateau at a certain point, though, they don’t continue with the downhill trend. 

What is their love language?

physical touch (when Celia feels up to it) & quality time, with a hint of words of affirmation.

Who started the relationship?

I think it was started rather mutually, but Laura’s kiss is what spurred it into life.

Monogamy or Polyamory?

Though they’re open to poly, when I reference their ship, I usually mean the monogamous one.

Not really part of their thought process yet… Neither are really attached to marriage as a concept except for the benefits it provides. Whether or not it WOULD provide something they can actually benefit from is worth questioning.

NO MORE CHILDREN.

Do they already have kids, together or from previous relationships?

Yep! Laura has Shaun and Celia has Bridget and Cass. Cass is biologically hers, but carried through a surrogate.

Do they have any routines/rituals in their relationship?

Certainly! During the week, Celia drives Laura to work, drops the kids off at school, and then hangs out at home until it’s time to pick them up. She has a lot of at-home time simply because she’s paid well for what she does, so jobs become more and more infrequent and tbqh, when she retires, Celia’s KINDA fucking rich, dude. 

How do they take care of each other when they are sick/hurt?

Laura has a habit of cooking Celia’s favorite meals, just as she does for any of the kids when they’re sick, but particularly soups and stews that her mother taught her! 

Celia usually takes care of things that are usually Laura’s tasks, particularly doing dishes and tending to the kids’ emotional needs a bit more. Is she good at it? Not particularly, but she’s trying.

How do they like to spend time together?

Laura loves going to the beach to just sit and watch the sun set or rise, so Celia often indulges her in a drive over from the house to do just that. 

What are their favourite non-sexual forms of intimacy?

HOLDING HANDS AND FOREHEAD TOUCHES.

What are some of their favourite things about their partner?

Celia admires Laura’s honesty and integrity. 

Laura loves how straightforward Celia is and finding the softer parts of her to love.

How do they comfort the other when they are upset?

Laura often simply holds Celia when she’s having troubles, assuming that Celia is able to tolerate touch at the time. When Celia is touch repulsed, Laura will instead simply exist in the same space with her, sometimes reading books aloud and letting Celia fall asleep after a good cry.

When Laura is upset, Celia will order in her favorite restaurant and, depending on the problem, either take the kids out or organize a fun night for everybody. 

Who buys the other spontaneous gifts?

Celia for Laura. Definitely. Laura gets gifts for Celia as well but they are less frequent and usually incredibly well thought out.

What position do they sleep in?

Celia tends to sleep curled in on herself, but as the relationship developed and they started sleeping in the same bed, Laura has managed to get her to open up

Do they bathe/shower together?

Sometimes! When it’s easier or they’re trying to save water (yes I know that sounds like an excuse–) or just when one of them decides to join the other for fun. It happens.

How often do they fight? What about?

It’s fairly rare for them to fight, at least in the early stages so far. When they do, it’s usually a misunderstanding or miscommunication, with Celia often the one misunderstood / struggling to verbalize her thoughts properly and in a kind way.

Have they ever broken up?

Once. I haven’t figured out the details yet. It didn’t last long though.
