A/n: Fluff. Diabetic-level fluff. You've been warned. This is the grossest thing I have ever written.
Percy has been falling since he was a kid. He’s tripped down the stairs, slipped with his skateboard, tackled by school bullies, been thrown off the lava wall—he’s used to the scraped skin, the burn of his knees when he gets back up. He’s lying on the hard bed of the Poseidon Cabin, and he thinks, this fall is going to kill him.
He tips his head back, the air scurries past his ears as he plunges. His arms are wide open, the choice is hers: to embrace or destroy. All he asks is for her hand, the one that weaves golden dreams out of Pashmina; a single aurous yarn moors his ship.
She tangles their legs with a child’s insolence; hers are ice-cold, he frowns and hisses playfully– a comfortable imitation.
“Jeez, you’re gonna freeze me to death.”
She hums. “Maybe you should warm me up, then.” He laughs, a weightless body sways; the bones are hollow, except for glee and her light.
“You’re such a bad flirt.” His remark makes her put her book down, and she raises a sharp eyebrow in response.
“Don’t insult my flirting skills. At least I’m trying to be romantic.” Her lips twist, and soon her smile grows into a grin. Inhibited, he thinks of a child who has never fallen, who has never known scrapped knees. It’s not true, of course.
“You want me to be romantic? You have no idea what’s about to hit you—” Her head tips back as she explodes into giggles, and Percy stares at her bare neck. She’s wearing his hoodie, but it’s too big on her, her Camp Necklace hides underneath the thick fabric.
“No, don’t laugh at me, I’m serious—” He chuckles too, it’s hard not to be pulled away by her joy, conned into losing yourself. “Paul’s introduced me to poetry.” His face remains stoic, he tries to be serious, but his eyes always betray him—Annabeth’s laughter amplifies when she catches the glint of the impish green. He snatches the trill of that particular nocturne and sears it into his memory.
She throws her book away, the old hardcover drops to the corner of the bed, and raises both her eyebrows, “I got you spewing poetry now, Jackson? All right, let’s hear it.” She settles further into the pillow, getting comfortable for his rendition.
He raised himself on his arms and climbed over her. Even after months of dating, he wasn’t used to touching her. Wasn’t used to the fact that she allowed him—fuck, she liked it—to touch her. Her hair was spread out like a crown around her head, and he kisses her hairline. Her eyes sway shut, and he places a small peck on her nose when he sees the widest smile on her face.
He kisses her left cheek, and coos, “Shorty did in fact, Wear them Apple Bottle Jeans—”
“Percy!”
Annabeth tries to groan, but it blends with her snort, and the noise that comes out makes Percy laugh, and she grins back at him. She tips her head back, intoxicated by his touch, his words, his breath. In the most solemn voice he can manage, he kisses her left cheek and whispers, “This heart is not a summer field, and yet…” he stops for a moment to look at her lips. They’re a bit swollen, but Percy doesn’t think they kissed that much. “how dense love’s foliage has grown.” He pressed his lips to hers, hoping that his kiss feels as soft as the poem was. As soft as she looks, sometimes.
“Percy…” she hums. A short laugh escapes her throat.
“What? You didn’t like it? I have another one—” Her head falls back fully and the air whirls with her giggles, ecstasy, he thinks and bends down to kiss her neck.
“Kiss me, rekiss me, and kiss me again—” he begins at the middle of her neck. He hears her muffled voice, “Is that actually a poem or are you asking nicely?” He doesn’t stop, kisses, kisses, and kisses all the way to her pulse.
“Give me one of your most delicious kisses, A kiss in excess of my fondest wishes—” his lips close out her beating heart, and he nibbles it lightly. “I’ll repay you four, more scalding than you spend.” Her mouth opens, but the words melt like snow on her lips, and a gentle moan flees.
He looks up immediately, impatient to see the color of her eyes, but they’re still shut softly. He kisses up to her eyelids, and her hands tighten on his shoulders, tips digging in, melding her body with his.
“Did you like that?” he asks and then busies himself with her lips. She nods, shaking his head along too. He laughs at that, before going near her neck again. Annabeth’s legs, which were entangled with his, separate and push at his knees. He listens to her, like always, and their hips end up aligned, and her cold toes travel in a straight line down his calf.
“Cold.” He mumbles near her ear, trying to kiss a spot underneath it.
“Yeah?” she sounds so pliable, so vulnerable. He looks up. Her eyes open. She is his land, but her eyes open to him like the sky does to a dying man; an infinite potable grey sky stretching to beyond eternity.
He pecks her lips once, and mumbles into the corner of her mouth, “We loved with a love that was more than love.”
Rich foliage of chuckles surrounds him, and he notices a dewiness in her eyes.
“Nothing, my personal Edgar Allan Poe.” She smiles wide, her head rises to chase his lips, and he lets her pull him down. He is her sky and she is her land. Annabeth’s hand scratches the clipped hair at the nape of his neck, and he feels himself press down harder, and harder.
He rains down on her, drop by drop, and the water kisses her face.
Percy separates from her and frowns.
“You’ve been eating candy without me?” he accuses. He doesn’t wait for her answer. She hums as he nibs the spot under her ear. He kisses down to her collarbone, getting closer to her heart, and where the red coral glows against her tan skin, a star amidst the other beads.
“I like how you put the coral on your necklace. It’s like you have something about me in you.” The words casually leave Percy’s mouth, and he’s unaware that they’ve affected her until he feels the tempo of her heart pick up, the old-machine beating violently against her chest. He stops, overwhelmed by her, all of her, and none of him, and rests his head on her chest.
“Perce?”
He inhales deeply, she had stopped smelling of lemon long ago, he can only taste the sea on her. He wonders if he still tastes like sea salt to her.
“I can feel your heart beating so fast like this.” He mutters into her skin. He looks up, as her thumb caresses his cheek. He warms her with his breaths, but the air around him is no longer just his, it mingles and has become hers too. Her breath is his air. She looks so deep inside his eyes, he’s sure she’s looked completely through him. She’s always been good at that.
“I think I’m in love with you.”
This time, Annabeth does not wait for a reply. She pulls him down by the neck, and soon their souls, blue and gold threads, are so entwined with each other that not even the fates think of weaving them into different tapestries.
Percy thinks of falling again, as Annabeth’s tongue skids past his bottom lip, and he thinks of how much he’s had to fall to get here. He thinks of how he toppled the Titan king with the girl under him, and how he’d fall into any abyss, as long as it is with her.
“I love you, too.”

Drop of Sunshine
This is a big self indulgent fic I wrote this with me specifically in mind lolol I can’t get over my freckled reader brain rot.
Aone post time skip x Fem!Freckled!Reader
If someone asked him what his favorite thing about you is, he’d say your sense of humor or the way you always make him feel like he’s at home.
If he had to choose a physical aspect though, without a doubt and without hesitation he’d say he loved your freckles the most.
Aone loved the way your freckles looked in the sun. You were radiant, like a little drop of sunshine that warms everyone she comes in contact with. And after you spent the day with your friends on the beach, you’d sit by the camp fire and your freckles would be darker, each and every mark rekissed by the goddess of the sun herself, your warm skin pressed into his arm as you hold on to him, cuddling close as the wind rolls in. His little drop of sunshine to keep his days filled with warmth.
He loved the way your freckles look under the soft lights of the Italian place you both love. Your special table in the back corner with the circle booth where you can sit side by side as you shared your entrees. The freckles under your right eye crinkling as you laughed, the ones on your lips twitching as they fall into a peaceful smile as you bring the fork up to his mouth to share.
His sun drop glowing as he brought the dessert spoon of ice cream up to your lips, a knowing sparkle in your eye when you reach up to cup his cheek the moment he dips down to steal a taste from your lips like he always does.
He loved the way your freckles sparkled and danced under the colorful lights with him. You didn’t know how to samba but you were amazing at following his lead and he loved how close it brought you together. Loved the way he could feel the warmth on your skin when he cupped your cheek, he couldn’t resist leaning down and pressing his lips to yours.
He loved the way your freckles looked in the lights of the tv screen in his dark apartment. The movie had ended, the credits and rolling slowly and playing some soft romantic song. He was laying on the couch with his left knee up and against the back, his foot shoved down in the seam as his other long leg was wrapped around you, resting on the back of your knee as you laid on his stomach.
Your chin rested on the back of your palms as you looked up at him, running his fingers through your hair as you just held eye contact with happy and peaceful smiles on your lips until you can’t bear it any longer and you have to crawl forward to press your soft freckle specked lips to his.
He adored the way your freckles ran across your skin, the way they cover and decorate your body. He loved the way his sheets look when he looks down and sees you tangled in them. His sun drop becoming constellations of star fragments as he he kisses each and every one of them. Marking favorites to memory and leaving hickeys across your collar bone and neck.
Aone loves the way your freckles on your cheeks danced with shades of pink when you looked in the mirror the next morning and saw all the marks he left on your body.
He loves the way your eyes soften and the smile you give him when he does something you can’t help but find so endearingly adorable your whole face smiles like your feelings are shining through each freckle, the way the freckles on your lips frame your smirk when he does something that amuses you, he will love you until the day your freckles fade into dust and then he will love you longer, still.

Roman Catholic Priests and Celibacy
By Alex Norcia, Vice, Sept. 25, 2018
In 1521, four years after a German priest named Martin Luther is said to have nailed his Ninety-Five Theses to the door of All Saints’ Church in Wittenberg, the outlaw retired to Wartburg Castle to hide from his inquisitors. There, he translated the New Testament from Greek into his native German, and began a period he referred to as his “Patmos”--an allusion to the small Greek island where the Book of Revelation was apparently written. He delved into his studies, refining polemics against the sale of indulgences (paying the Church money in exchange for salvation), and for the idea of sola fide, that God forgives on faith alone (regardless of one’s “works”).
These would become some of the most commonly known divisions between Catholicism and Protestantism. But what’s sometimes forgotten, amid the general shattering of European politics that soon followed, is where the theologian came down on sexuality and marriage. At Wartburg, he wrote to Nicolas Gerbel, a jurist and scholar of canon law, laying out his views clearly.
“Kiss and rekiss your wife,” he insisted. “Let her love and be loved. You are fortunate in having overcome, by an honorable marriage, that celibacy in which one is a prey to devouring fires and to unclean ideas. That unhappy state of a single person, male or female, reveals to me each hour of the day so many horrors, that nothing sounds in my ear as bad as the name of monk or nun or priest. A married life is a paradise, even where all else is wanting.”
Like most aspects of the Roman Catholic faith, the requirement that a priest be celibate has been enshrined by centuries of tradition. But the idea has been challenged for almost as long as it’s existed. In recent years, some have gone so far as to question, in the context of religious piety or otherwise, if living a celibate life is even possible. he end of priestly celibacy might be closer than you think.
After all, leaving scientific matters of sexuality aside, we do know it’s possible for the Catholic Church to survive without the restriction. It already did.
“The Roman Catholic precedent [of celibacy] really dates to the 11th-century Gregorian Reform,” Julie Byrne, a religion professor at Hofstra University, told me recently. “Pope Gregory VII instituted a lot of changes. Mandatory celibacy for priests was instituted then, and of course, we’re talking about an arrangement of society that’s so different from our own--so it was partly for priests to be able to do their duties, and partly about the land that priests had, remanding back to the churches, instead of to heirs. So, if priests didn’t have children, it was better for the Church.”
The notion of celibacy as a religious matter dates back even further. Kim Haines-Eitzen, a professor of religion at Cornell, explained that it has roots in the emergence of asceticism, the practice most commonly associated with monks. Haines-Eitzen has written extensively on the history of celibacy, offering a cogent timeline that touches on the introduction of priests to the Church hierarchy, the influence of Greco-Roman philosophy, and Christians’ eventual views on suffering and persecution.
“To simplify the historical scope,” Father Thomas Reese, a senior analyst at Religion News Service, and the former editor in chief of America magazine, told me, “I often say, ‘We had about a thousand years of a married clergy, and now a thousand years of having the rule of celibacy.’”
So the model for not requiring priests be celibate is there. For one thing, Peter, the first pope, was married, if we take Scripture at its word--and the more than two-dozen Eastern Catholic Churches, which are in full communion with Pope Francis, allow for the ordination of married men into the priesthood, as do many independent Catholic churches that have no affiliation with the Vatican. There are also thought to be several dozen Catholic priests based in the US who converted back to the Roman faith from Episcopalianism and got a pass.
The real questions are whether or not the Roman Catholic Church can revert to its previous position, how that would happen, what it could look like, and why it might happen now. The mechanics of making the change are not as tricky as you might think.
“The possibility of loosening the rules about celibacy, about priests not being married, that could be possible, because a discipline is more open to change than a doctrinal position,” Anthony Petro, a professor at Boston University who studies the intersection of sexuality and religion, said in an interview. “The discipline of celibacy, these sorts of things, can change. The Second Vatican Council [in the 1960s], for example, changed so much of the discipline around how mass is done. Does it need to be in Latin? How is the Eucharist held?”
There’s a subtle difference between how Catholic “doctrine” and “discipline” are defined, but, in short, “doctrine” concerns the teachings of the Church on faith and morals (it descends from God) and “disciplines” are acknowledged to be man-made rules and subject to potential shifts in practice. It’s slippery--yet important--phrasing.
“Celibacy is not doctrine in the Catholic Church,” Reese explained. “It’s a law. It can change. And people like myself, say, are in favor of moving toward optional celibacy--my primary reason being that we need more priests.”
The Church has, in fact, been undergoing a priest shortage for years, especially in Latin and South America. As the Wall Street Journal noted in February, “Around the world, the ratio of Catholics to priests has risen sharply in recent decades, to 3,100-to-1 in 2015 from 1,900-to-1 in 1980, according to Vatican statistics. It is especially high in South America--7,100-to-1, almost four times as high as in North America.” The logic follows: If we let men who want to have sex and get married become priests, more men would want to become priests. Pope Francis has hinted that he’s in favor of discussing the idea, and, in October 2019, bishops from the Amazon are set to travel to the Vatican for a synod that may ultimately have married priests on the agenda.
“If the majority of the bishops ask for it, then, I do think the pope will grant it,” Reese said, suggesting there might be a sort of domino effect if that occurs, and that priest marriage could start locally before spreading to other regions.
What limited (and less-than-scientific) survey data exists from the early 2000s suggests many American priests have long been open to a dialogue on the topic. And it’s been on the table, as a realistic suggestion, since Vatican II, when those disciplines Petro mentioned (nixing Latin and so forth) were tweaked, and there was some hope that Pope John XXIII might consider revising it. “Most other religions don’t prohibit marriage [of priests],” Warren Goldstein, executive director of the Center for Critical Research on Religion, told me. “The Catholic Church has always, in its history, been able to survive, and remain as large as it is, because of its ability to adapt.”
For his part, Father Reese did acknowledge there were actual arguments against relaxing the celibacy rule--the financial burden Catholics face to provide for a priest’s family, and the idea that celibate priests might be holier than married clergy. (“I just don’t buy that,” he said. “There are a lot of married couples who are a lot holier than I am.”) But he suggested the small problems--priests having to care for their children, for example--could be overcome, and that optional celibacy could realistically happen within the next few years.
“I don’t think [getting rid of the celibacy vow] would be as disruptive as it would have been, say, 100 years ago,” agreed Kathleen Grimes, an assistant professor of religion at Villanova University, who, among other areas, studies the intersection of theology and ethics. “Because I do think, now, we see married life as a positive path for holiness.”
