Thought I'd write a bit of an album recommendation because this is such an impressive and very underrated project.
Riveira Bailey: ALVUANA
.â˘Â°â
(As you can already tell from this awesome moodboard I put together using random pinterest images, the vibes are spot-on.)
â˘GENERAL INFORMATIONâ˘
â Duration: 47:32
â Number of tracks: 10
â Released: march 8. 2024
â Shortest track: Indicators (3:19)
â Longest track: Bleeding On A New Moon (7:10)
â˘ABOUT THE ARTISTâ˘
Riveira Bailey is a sort of alter ego for Josh. (so like, Josh-full stop.), a british indie artist. Riveira is definitely an eye catching presence, in their long coats and frilled shirts, this soft-spoken poet sure knows a thing or two. For further information about the general character, I recommend checking out his tiktoks - there's a story being told here.
â˘ABOUT THE ALBUMâ˘
All in all, this is something of a concept album, built on the general story of Riveira, but it discusses many different topics, such as gender, family issues, loneliness, there's just a lot. The general style is very interesting, something of a glam-bedroom-rock-ish energy. It is a lyrical masterpiece, sung poetry, my personal favourite line in the project is forever the usage of "home is the sailor" (a quote from Robert Louis Stevenson's Requiem, full poem here). This quote has also served as the title of my blog for some time. This album is often referred to by riveira as a symphonic piece, which I'd say is a great way to describe it. This album is meant to be listened to as one big piece first, not as individual songs.
â˘MY PERSONAL OPINIONâ˘
Frankly, this project left me speechless. I adore every second of every track, and I have the pleasure of somewhat knowing this wonderful artist (we don't interact all that often, but he's truly such a sweetheart.).
â Favourite track: An Honest Man/Lone Sailor
â Favourite quote: "Home is the sailor"â˘"Should theists rejoice in global succession, meeting their gods too soon, without question"â˘
â Who I recommend this album to: fans of Dead Poets Society, poets in general, glam-enjoyers (particularly Bowie fans), people who always feel a bit out of place, as well as anyone who likes general indie music and wants to discover some fun new artists.

A 20 out of 10 kind of date (George Weasley x Fem!Reader)
Summary: George and reader go on a late night date and listen to music together. (Strongly recommend you listen to your favourite album while reading this)
Warnings: I canât think of any other than the fact that this is my first fic ever so itâs prob... bad, but please let me know if you do.
Word count: 997
(Y/n) puts on her shoes and walks towards the door pausing when her hand grips the door handle. âHere I go.â she say as another splurge of butterflies flutter in her stomach.
Hermione smiles âDo try to have fun yeah?â
âWith him? Iâm sure I will.â She responds as a smile forms on her face at the thought of spending time with George.
âHey (y/n)!â George exclaims as he springs off the couch and shoves his hands in his pockets.
Itâs their third date together and theyâre still not sure how to act around each other, fearing to overstep and mess everything up. (Y/n) opens her arms tentatively for a hug and George visibly sighs in relief as he steps forward to wrap his arms around her.
âReady?â He asks.
She nods as a big smile forms on her face. The sight makes him giddy. He takes her hand in his and they sneak out of the castle and head onto the dark grounds. They walk aimlessly down the hill with no specific destination in mind. They finally reach the quidditch pitch with sore cheeks from smiling too much and hands still tightly intertwined.
âLetâs go on the pitch, yeah? Itâs a great place to look at the stars. The stands act as a bit of a shield from the windâ he nods towards the tall stands.
âOkay, I wanna show you something.â She smiles as his face contorts with confusion.
(Y/n) leads him to the middle of the pitch before letting go of his hand and lying down on the grass. He settles next to her waiting for her to reveal her special something.
She doesnât say anything but pulls out a small iPod and some earphones. She plugs them into the iPod and passes George the left one. He looks at the earphone with bewilderment.
âUm. What is this?â
She giggles. âItâs an earphone silly. You put it in your ear and listen to music. I wanted to show you an artist I really like. I thought you might like them too.â
He hesitantly inserts the earphone and looks at (y/n) to make sure he did it right. She smiles at the cute look on his face and nods in confirmation. She taps a little on the screen and a song starts playing. George jumps a bit in surprise which makes (y/n) laugh loudly.
Once theyâve both calmed down, they listen to the album in silence. Moving closer and closer to one another as the songs go on. Eventually, (y/n) is using Georgeâs arm as a pillow with her body turned towards him, her arm extended over his chest. Heâs drawing small circles on her shoulder with his other arm.
George watches her delighted face as she hangs onto every lyric and every note of every song. Itâs possibly his new favourite thing. The small smile on her lips, the way she lightly sways her head to the beat, eyes closing at specific parts which he assumes to be her favourite ones.
âWhat did you think?â She asks sleepily taking him out of his blissful trance.
âI liked it.â He states noticing how groggy he feels.
âAw câmon gimme a lil more than that.â She slurs sleepily.
He chuckles lightly. Heâs never seen her this sleepy. Itâs definitely one of the cutest things heâs ever seen.
âI liked the words to the second song. The instruments are good. I liked the boom boom in the back.â
She tries to giggle but it falls short as she closes her eyes, ready to fall asleep. âDrums.â She whispers.
âWhat?â He lifts his head a bit to look at her with eyebrows knitted in confusion.
âThatâs what makes the boom boom.â She whispers. Each word sounds effortful as she grows sleepier by the second.
âHey, donât give out on me here.â He says softly.
The only response is a huff as she snuggles into his chest. He smiles unable to rejoice at the moment.
âAlright, letâs get you back to the castle, yeah?â He whispers softly as he shifts slowly which results in a grunt of dissatisfaction from (y/n).
He finally gets her to stand and start their trudge back to the castle. The walk starts slow as (y/n) leans onto George, barely able to hold herself up from exhaustion. As the walk continues she gains enough energy to finish it on her own. They sneak back up to (y/n)âs common room entrance.
âI had such a great night. Thanks for sharing that artist with me, theyâre really cool.â
âIâm glad you like them. I had a good time too. Youâre awfully comfy. I thought I was going to fall asleep on you at one point.â If it werenât for the fog in her brain that is stopping her from thinking before she talks she would not have blurted that.
The confession makes George smile.
âMaybe someday Iâll actually let you.â It sounds certain, almost like a plan heâs determined to accomplish.
He steps forward, closing the gap between the two.
âYou know right now Iâd give this date a 9.5 out of 10. â He says with a dramatic sigh.
â9.5?! How is this not a 10?â She asks with exaggerated offence.
âItâs missing a goodnight kiss.â He smirks.
âWell then, letâs make this date a 10 yeah?â She whispers as she tilts her head up.
He meets her halfway placing one hand on her waist and the other cupping her cheek. Their lips press together gently as they slowly start exploring the feeling of each otherâs lips. She laces her fingers into his hair deepening the kiss.
They finally pull away with shy smiles and rosy cheeks. George backs up eyes still locked on (y/n)âs mesmerizing smile.
âGoodnight.â She whispers.
He nods his head in acknowledgement unable to utter a word before she sneaks off to her dorm.
â20 out of 10â he whispers to himself as he touches his lips still swollen from their kiss.
Authorâs note: This was my first fic ever! I hope you liked it, Iâd love to get some feedback if youâre willing to share. Donât know if this is interesting but I lightly based it on my third date with my boyfriend. In case u wanna explore new singers, the artist I introduced him to was Ămile Bilodeau (itâs French tho). That night was also when we had our first kiss đĽ°

 EVERYTHING WRONG WITH KPOP
Â
Before we start discussing about the problems or the backlashes faced by the Korean Pop industry, we need to know a little about how and where this entertainment industry began. A term now widely used to refer to the popularity of Korean entertainment and culture across Asia and other parts of the world, Hallyu or the âKorean Waveâ first appeared during the mid-1990s. After Korea entered into diplomatic relations with China in 1992 and Korean TV dramas and pop music gained great popularity in Chinese-speaking communities.
Â
Me personally being a Korean entertainment fan cannot choose to ignore the various flaws in the Korean entertainment industry. As a K-pop the music given me positivity and happiness. And I do think that a lot of fans of the K-pop and K-dramas will agree with me that the Korean Entertainment industry has brought in more happiness in our lives. And, I think a lot of us are well aware of the tight schedules, unhealthy diets and toxicity within the industry. Through this video I would like to address the problems the idols face due to this beauty standard and perfection that Korean entertainment industry showcases.
Â
Now, let's start addressing the actual problems that this industry faces. This industry is racist, xenophobic, sexist and fatphobic.
Â
1. EXISTENCE OF SLAVE CONTRACTS
Â
Â
The idols are made to sign slave contracts with the entertainment labels. And, these contracts gives the entertainment labels complete control over the idols and their daily life is strictly monitored by their managers. Even, the food that they consume is monitored by their managers. Now, addressing about "slave contracts ".In the past, K-Pop contracts usually were around 7-15 years, so they were nicknamed âslave contracts. However, many artists started filing lawsuits due to how unreasonable these contracts were. Over the years, companies started settling down and shortened the length of their contracts. Despite all of this, even if an idol group becomes famous majority of the money goes to the managers and the entertainment label.Â
Â
We all know how draining the kpop industry is,the idols are overworked, pressured and always have to be on their best behaviour. This makes them sacrifice their mental health. And along with all of these they even have to deal with a lot of criticism from the audience. And we have also seen several cases of kpop idols who not having been able to deal with the pressure in the industry and having received hate from people choose to end their lives. And, the scandals in industry are on a different level and that it.
Â
Â
2. THE BEAUTY STANDARDS
 Â
Â
Idols are sometimes forced to have a plastic surgery to meet the beauty standard. But, nowadays due to a lot of emphasis on the freedom of idols, the idols can sue the company if they are forced to undergo a plastic surgery, but majority of the time the idols are trainees when they are asked undergo surgeries and stuff. What more would a trainee want than getting a chance to debut. So instead of taking any legal courses the idols end of altering themselves to just be part of the industry. And, this negatively influences not only the idols but also the fans who follow them. All Asian countries in general have a perception that if a person has white skin he/she beautiful. And this perception is overemphasised by this industry. Now, about them being fatphobic. Any female idol weighing above 50 kgs is forced to go on a strict diet, due to this a lot of idols end up being underweight and and they also develop several health complication. And on several instances companies and idols have been caught lying about their weight just to maintain the image and be a part of the beauty standards. And we have also seen instances where idols have fainted while preforming on stages.
Â
Â
3. HARDSHIPS THAT TRAINEE'S HAVE TO UNDERGOÂ
Â
Trainee's. We all know that before a new idol group is formed the entertainment label conducts auditions. There are usually many auditions held each year but itâs pretty hard to pass the audition since there are many people auditioning.
Â
When you become a trainee you have to take singing, dancing, and acting lessons as well as some language classes if you are a foreigner. Life as a trainee can be hard because of the tight schedules and also the mistreatment. During the evaluations the trainees have to perform their best to show the company that there are making progress in their training or else theyâll get kicked from the company if theyâre not improving. And they are also graded on a monthly basis and ranked, due to which the idol trainees are under constant pressure to be number one.Â
Â
In addition to their training, trainees also usually receive homework to do on a daily basis, and if they donât do their homework given to them by their company, theyâre going to get left behind. There are many trainees who give up their dreams of becoming a kpop idol because of the tight schedules and all the training and practice they have to do in order to not get kicked from the company. And also, there are certain companies who request to get paid training fees by their trainees, but, itâs not common. And, in addition to this, there have been situations in which several people who have trained for years to be become an idol ,have not been able to become one. Just think, what career options do they have left, they would have put in all their efforts into becoming a idol and if they or their group fail to debut what are they supposed. How are they supposed to fend themselves.
Â
4. RACISM
Â
There have been several instances of racism that kpop stars belonging to different ethnicities or mixed race stars have undergone.SBS Pop Asia reported that Fei from Miss A had stated that during her early days in the kpop she was tormented by people who thought that she showered only once a week as she was Chinese. And,singer Shannon was repeatedly called a foreigner despite her being half korean. Mamamoo, a girl group has also given a lengthy apology for putting on a blackface to portray Bruno Mars.
Â
5. CULTURAL APPROPRITATION
https://twitter.com/adorebybeykook/status/1270817395242827778?s=20
https://youtu.be/uUCrK4aQOlg
youtube
On June 26, one of the biggest groups in the K-pop music industry made their long-awaited comeback. Blackpink, a four-member girl group, released their single "How You Like That" and its accompanying music video after over a year, breaking several records. It became the YouTube video, as well as the music video, with the most views in a day at a whopping 86.3 million. But as fans rejoiced about their favourite groupâs comeback, another corner of the internet outraged. In yet another incident, K-pop idols were called out for misappropriating South Asian culture and religion. In a scene that has now been removed, one of the members could be seen rapping sitting beside a sculpture of Lord Ganesh, a Hindu god. South Asian K-pop fans expressed their anger at the fact that the bust was just used for aesthetic purposes on the setâwhich had nothing to do with Hinduism. In Hindu religion, the elephant-headed god is invoked at the beginning of prayers, important undertakings, and religious ceremonies. Fans not happy about seeing the deity being used as prop then spoke out against cultural appropriation in the music industry, lashing out against it on social media.
In 2017, Korean idol Lee Hyo Ri came out with a song called âWhite Snakeâ.The song was just one of the thousands that K-pop idols had released that year, except for the one thing that made it stand out: It had a stanza of the Gayatri Mantra, a Sanskrit chant that is said to be one of the holiest mantras in Hindu culture. It is a Vedic prayer, associated with the divine and the pure. So obviously, when South Asian fans saw her perform a seductive sequence to it, they werenât very happy, to say the least.
Â
Despite all of the flaws in the industry. I will continue to support my favourite idols because they deserve a lot of support for what they are doing. And it is our support that keeps them going. And again, thank you for watching this video and do not forget to like, subscribe and comment.

Bernardeschi: Little by little we were losing our values. This is a wake-up call
Federico Bernardeschi is sitting on his balcony in Turin. The sun is shining. âItâs 20 degrees,â he says. One of his bulldogs, Spike, barks in the background. The 26-year-old politely introduces us over our video call and gives the pooch a pat on the head. âHeâs got a ball now. Heâs happy.â
Itâs a picture of normal life in abnormal circumstances. As of the weekend, there have been almost 200,000 cases of COVID-19 in Italy. Bernardeschiâs Juventus team-mates Daniele Rugani, Paulo Dybala and Blaise Matuidi all tested positive. But the country is turning a corner and after nearly two months of lockdown, the government has announced it will begin lifting some restrictions next week.
The crisis has left a profound impression on Bernardeschi, who remains in self-isolation but doesnât live in a bubble. âEvery morning at 8:30, I turn on the news. Itâs the first thing I do,â the winger tells The Athletic. âInformation is really important. You have to be aware of whatâs going on around you and I always hold out hope thereâll be some good news when maybe yesterday, there wasnât any. Gradually, weâre coming through the other side of it but weâre still in for the long haul.â
The Athletic is talking to Bernardeschi on April 25 â Liberation Day in Italy, commemorating the victory of the resistance at the end of World War II. Later in the afternoon, Italyâs president Sergio Mattarella cut a lonely but dignified figure walking down the steps of the Vittoriano monument in Rome in a protective mask after laying a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. At the same ceremony a year ago, he called the liberation Italyâs second Risorgimento (Resurgence) after the unification of the states into one country in 1861. Freedom from COVID-19 could yet be its third.
âI get goosebumps talking about the doctors and nurses, and everyone who is risking their lives to help their neighbour,â Bernardeschi, who has scored four goals in 24 appearances for the national team, says. âI have to say what our healthcare workers have done and continue to do is a miracle of humankind.â
Bernardeschi donated âŹ50,000 to the Gradenigo hospital in Turin and raised another âŹ80,000 through GoFundMe for eight sub-intensive care beds and other necessary equipment. Perplexingly, having a social conscience is something Bernardeschi and former Juventus midfielder Claudio Marchisio have been criticised for in some quarters. They have been called âbuonistaâ â virtue-signalling, politically correct do-gooders â by an element of Juventusâs ultras, who seem to have a problem with them using their platforms to shine a light on a variety of different social issues, not to mention calling out anti-immigration rhetoric.
âWhen someone, as you say, calls me âbuonistaâ, for me, itâs a compliment,â Bernardeschi insists. âThe world today needs more humanity and less selfishness when it comes to all the choices and big decisions we make at government and political level. Right now, we should be thinking about the families going through hard times rather than just looking at our own backyard. I hope this situation makes us understand that.â
The economic repercussions of the pandemic are placing ordinary households under tremendous stress and strain. Some are struggling to put food on the table and the footage from supermarkets of customers breaking down in tears, unable to pay for groceries, moved Bernardeschi. âI was watching a video on my phone with my partner (Veronica) and we both said to each other, âDamn, this is a major emergencyâ. We saw people who were unable do their shopping because theyâd run out of money.â
It made Bernardeschi think of Caffe Sospeso, an time-old Neapolitan tradition of paying not for one coffee but two, so someone less fortunate than you can get one on the house. He wondered if the same might be possible in supermarkets â a Spesa Sospeso â whereby customers could make a donation of between âŹ2 and âŹ5 to cover the cost of essential groceries such as pasta, rice, milk and bread for those in need. Carrefour agreed to partner with him, as did Banco Alimentare, a charity that redistributes unsold food to the homeless. Theyâll be delivering the Spesa Sospeso to the most vulnerable.
âI know what it means to see your parents struggling because itâs the end of the month and thereâs no money left,â says Bernardeschi. âAnd all the while, theyâre still doing everything to help you realise your ambitions and make your dreams come true.â
Bernardeschi became a father in August and one silver lining of lockdown is the time he has got to spend with his daughter, Deva. âI get up, get ready and make breakfast. I pick my baby girl up and get her to help me. I show her everything Iâm doing. Iâm with her for about an hour and then I do my first training session of the day. I shower, have some lunch and then, from one till six, Iâm with her all afternoon. We play and then I put her down for a nap and watch some TV, like La Casa de Papel (Money Heist on Netflix). I started (basketball documentary) The Last Dance.â
Bernardeschi reaches for the guitar, too. âMore than playing it, Iâd call it plucking at it. I strum. Iâm a big AC/DC fan. Back In Black is on the playlist when we run out at the Allianz Stadium. I like the Red Hot Chili Peppers, NirvanaâŚâ Bernardeschiâs desire to nail Pink Floydâs Wish You Were Here on guitar â the Italy internationalâs favourite song â was probably a bit too ambitious. âI need a teacher,â he says.
Art fascinates him. His former Fiorentina team-mate Manuel Pasqual is a collector and shares former England manager Fabio Capelloâs love of Lucio Fontanaâs slashed canvases. âBernaâ is more a street art kind of guy, though. âBanksyâs a genius,â he says. âUsually, artists only make it big after they die but Banksyâs managed to do it while heâs still alive. Heâs famous and yet no one knows who he is. Itâs madness. The manâs a genius in art and in marketing.â
At six oâclock, Bernardeschi trains again. Revised government guidelines indicate teams will only return to practice on May 18 and even then, itâs unclear whether group sessions and ball-work will be permitted. For now, the commute to Juventusâ Continassa facility will have to wait. âAfter the session, we have some dinner together, I put my daughter to bed and we put a film on. We go to bed destroyed. My daughter destroys us,â Bernardeschi laughs. âWeâre in bed by 10. Then the morning comes and it starts all over again.â
As Italyâs sports papers speculate about his future with Juventus, Bernardeschi thinks about his daughterâs. Fatherhood has given him a renewed sense of purpose and perspective. âI work today for the world sheâll live in tomorrow. Thatâs how I think about it,â he says. âDoing something positive for her and every generation that comes after us.â
The pause caused by the pandemic presents a chance to rethink how we behave as a society and what we prioritise. It could serve as a teachable moment. âLittle by little, we were losing our values,â Bernardeschi says. âFor a long time now, we havenât respected the environment, we havenât respected ourselves, we havenât respected our neighbours. Weâve been selfish. I think this situation will make us reflect on what the world could be like in the future. Itâs a wake-up call for everyone. Weâre guests on this planet. We have to ensure everything that surrounds us is in harmony with nature.â
Bernardeschi hopes the solidarity and compassion of the last couple of months lasts long after the pandemic is over.
âIt was really emotional seeing all of Italy on their balconies at six oâclock singing the national anthem,â he says. âIt means we are united as a country, that weâre a beautiful country. I hope that, as soon as this is all over, we can go back to the piazze (squares) and celebrate, sing, shout and rejoice at having got through it all.â

Fanders Secret Santa!
@starswingsandthings @secretsanders
Hello there! Iâm Patton, your Secret Santa! I read through your wishlist, and unfortunately Iâm a terrible artist. I am however, a pretty decent fic writer! So I thought Iâd write a cute Prinxiety fic as your present! I didnât really have anything to go off, so I googled some Christmas prompts and found one that I thought was perfect. I hope you like your present, Happy Holidays!
Prompt: To impress them, they learn all of the words to their favorite Christmas carol. And they doesnât even like carols. Or Christmas. Or singing.
Pairing: Prinxiety
Au: Human! Au - Virgil is waiting at home for his housemate Roman, who goes to visit his parents for Christmas. However this Christmas, Virgil realises his true feelings for his best friend.
Word Count: +1.5k
You can click here to listen to the song Virgil sings!
The sound of the crackling wood from the fireplace filled the apartment, the warm light touching every object in the small living room, shadows resembling Christmas stockings covered the walls. Sitting on the sofa was Virgil, his favourite constellation quilt that Roman had made over his lap. On the small side table heâd moved next to him was a cup of camomile tea, his phone, and Roman's gingerbread candle. In his hands was âThe Murder of Roger Ackroydâ by Agatha Christie, a book his brother Logan had recommended to him. Looking up at the wall, Virgil noticed that the clock read 9:00. âRoman shouldâve finished dinner by now.â he thought to himself. Placing the bookmark in his book, Virgil closed what heâd been reading, and replaced the book in his hands with his phone, sending Roman a message.
Emo Nightmare: sup ro, how's dinner with the fam?
Prince of your dreams: Why hello my dark and stormy night! I believe to be having a wonderful time, but I wish you were here with me.
Emo Nightmare: so do i, i could video call if you want? maybe i could give you your christmas present bc you won't be here on the day
Prince of your dreams: Oh Virgil that sounds splendid! Let me grab my laptop!!
Emo Nightmare: cool, ill grab mine too i guess
Virgil put his phone down gently on the book, and bent over to pick up his laptop off the floor next to him. He quickly opened it and put his password in before opening the video chat app. Roman's account switched to 'onlineâ and Virgil hit the call button, Roman answering quickly.
âVirgil! How is my chemically imbalanced romance?â Roman waved excitedly, his hair bouncing lightly. Virgil laughed quietly, a small smile tugging at his lips.
âHey princey, I'm good. Pretty alone though.â Virgil looked up at the screen, lifting the hood of his jumper over his head. He let himself smile at the sound of Roman's laugh.
âI'll be home in a week Virge, did you open the present I left for you?â Roman adjusted himself so he was lying down on his stomach, reaching out of frame to grab his hot chocolate.
âYeah, I did. Thanks Ro, it means a lot.â Virgil grabbed his own mug, taking another sip of his tea, Roman clapping excitedly in the background.
He'd had trouble figuring out a good present for Virgil, they may have known each other door a few years now but his purple haired friend was still a mystery. Eventually Roman bought him a new quilt set, most of it purple with black cats on it, the perfect thing to match the rest of his room. Virgil, on the other hand, had an even harder time than Roman. What could he have possibly gotten him that his creative friend didn't already have? After months (yes, months. Virgil spent months thinking of something) of planning, Virgil finally thought of it.
âActually, I have something for you as well. It isn't the best gift ever, but I put a lot of effort into it.â Virgil rubbed the back of his neck, looking down at his lap sheepishly.
âI'm sure I'll love it no matter what! After all, a gift is a gift.â Virgil glanced up and smiled, Roman's deep emerald coloured eyes reassuring him. He slipped in some earphones and pressed play on a song in his phone.
âThe fire is burning, the room's all aglow. Outside the December wind blows.â
He remembered when they first met, at Logan's Christmas party. The fireplace was lit, a warm light covering the room.
âAway in the distance, the carollers sing in the snow.â
The next Christmas they went out as a group to go ice skating. A group of people walked by singing carols, Roman joining in from afar.
âEverybody's laughing, the world is celebrating, and everyone's so happy, except for me tonight.â
They'd spent every Christmas together since they met. But this year Roman went to visit his family, leaving Virgil alone. On Christmas.
âBecause I miss you, most at Christmas time. And I can't get you, get you off my mind.â
Virgil spent everyday of December leading up to Christmas wondering why he couldn't stop thinking off the royal pain in his ass that he called his housemate.
âEvery other season comes along and I'm alright. But then I miss you, most at Christmas time.â
He asked Logan what it could be, but to no avail. His logical friend smiling sweetly as he told Virgil to ask Patton instead.
âI gaze out the window, this cold winter's night. At all of the twinkling lights.â
Soon enough Virgil asked Patton about his situation, his usually emotional friend smiling sadly. He knew exactly what it was, and he knew Virgil wouldn't like it.
âAlone in the darkness, remembering when you were mine.â
No. Virgil refused to believe it. This was just Patton playing a trick on him. He could never. Not in a million years.
âEverybody's smiling, the whole world is rejoicing. And everyone's embracing, except for you and I baby.â
Maybe he did. Virgil spent countless nights awake, pacing his room. Thinking about Roman's green eyes, his light honey coloured hair, the freckles that came in pairs, and his heavenly smile. Maybe Virgil did lov- um, maybe Virgil did like Roman.
âI miss you, most at Christmas time. And I can't get you, no no no no, get you off my mind.â
Virgil felt awful. He'd spent so long thinking about his own problems that he'd forgotten to get Roman something for Christmas. He stayed up all night that night, eventually deciding that he should listen to his heart. His heart named Patton. Who was yelling at him the next morning for staying up.
âEvery other season comes along and I'm alright. But then I miss you, most at Christmas time.â
Virgil agreed with both Logan and Patton, and started searching for a song that would convey exactly how he felt about Roman. But even Virgil didn't know how he truly felt.
âIn the springtime, those memories start to fade with the April rain. Through the summer days, till autumn's leave are gone.â
Roman only ever left Virgil around December. But he would always be home on Christmas day. Virgil could handle it any other time of the year. So why was it so bad now?
âI get by without you, till the snow begins to fall and then I miss you, most at Christmas time. And I can't get you, no no no no, get you off my mind.â
Virgil was in love with Roman. He was madly, deeply in love with his annoying, ignorant, somewhat handsome best friend. And he hated everything about it. The feeling of course, not the guy he fell for.
âEvery other season comes along and I'm alright.â
Virgil loved Roman.
âBut then I miss you, most at Christmas time.â
Virgil took out his earphones and looked up at the screen to a sight he thought he'd never see. Roman had moved and was sitting up again, he had tears running down his cheeks, his hands covering his mouth. Virgil was convinced he'd done something wrong. He probably had. He knew singing to him was a bad idea. As he went to apologise, Roman cut in, silencing the younger man.
âVirgil⌠I don't know where to begin,â Roman wiped his tears away and smiled at the camera. âThat was beautiful. How have I never heard you sing? Although that isn't what's important, why did you sing that song?â
Virgil looked away and figited with the blanket in his lap, afraid to answer.
âVirgil? You can tell me, I won't judge you.â Virgil took a deep breath and closed his eyes tight.
âBecause I love you Roman!â He let out a sigh and laughed, brushing a hand through his hair, thinking to himself âWell that wasn't that badâ. But when Roman didn't answer him he began to worry again. Virgil slowly looked up at a completely black screen.
His laptop went flat. His laptop, went flat.
Virgil slammed it shut, blew out the candle next to him, put out the fire in the fireplace and turned his phone off before running to his room and locking the door. He can't believe that actually happened. Although he's lucky he did, Roman would never feel the same.
A week passed and Virgil hadn't moved from his bed. He hadn't eaten or showered, and only left to use the bathroom. He'd been thinking about packing some of his things and leaving. Maybe he could find a small apartment in Antarctica, far, far, away from Roman. Unfortunately his plans were cut short with a loud banging on his door.
âVirgil! Virgil! Are you in there?â Patton, he hadn't heard Patton's voice in weeks.
âVirgil? If you're in there please let us know you're ok.â Logan, he sound panicked? Why?
Before he could answer his own question he heard the lock on the door rattling, the sound of a butter knife hitting it? That could only be one person.
âVirgil? Oh god Virgil, you're alright!â Roman opened the door and dropped the knife, rushing over toward him, pulling Virgil into a tight embrace.
Patton and Logan quietly closed the door to give Roman and Virgil some privacy. They obviously had a lot to talk about. Virgil explained to Roman that his laptop died and that if he heard anything he didn't really mean it. Which lead to Roman confessing his own romantic feelings to his edgy crush. The two sat there on Virgil's bed, laughing over the misunderstanding. Slowly the held hands and left the room, going out to find Logan and Patton.
âHey Padre? Do you and Logan wanna come on a double date with myself and my emo prince?â

Tel Aviv 2019: Straight outta Spain to Eurovision with whole lotta fun
youtube
Dare I say Operación Triunfo is a little bit of... a Choice?
I mean, you got yourself a format that a bunch of young-aged/teen/late-teen aged droolies follow for the drama more than the music, at least thatâs what I suppose it is because itâs one of those singing reality shows where youâre oh so very welcome to follow the lives of all the 20-somethings that were unfortunate to sign the contract of the show, not being able to read all the fine-prints in the contract and later regretting not doing so because things like Eurovision. In Israel. But more on that later.
But this is Espain, and this is the sad state of television that is today - if they like your shitty talent show with 24/7 followship of the contestants, and if they watch that, and if they eat that with a spoonful, chances are youâre going to prolong its post-mortem revival state in order to maaaaaybe attract a new audience and acquire a new shippable couple people will vote âa EurovisiĂłnâ. Even if your last couple sucked. And even managed to break up unceremoniously sometime before the 2019 showâs Eurovision final <3 god bless them for finally breaking the chain and breaking the hearts of thousands who were âdyingâ for the ship. It was never EVER meant to last.
So is it a no surprise that OperaciĂłn went thriving for another year? Certaintly at least itâs no joy to bear with another amount of subpar desperates from every other corner of Spain, but only because Spain deserves a better NF format. I mean, with these other NF formats we can at least have a variety of artists with their own (or composed by others) songs, and it doesnât matter an inch whether the publicâs big fave gets rigged out to me - as long as itâs just a NF I can get easily over with, itâs all fine to me! And of course OT is also fine for me, itâs just that people are begging for it to get axed for some reason. Maybe because of all the ships?
I donât want to put too much more thought of what happened in the reality show other than the Eurovision Gala, BUT I seemed to notice something rather crazy. You see, at first we had Natalia (or was it Alba Reche or Sabela even?) heavily speculated as the winner pre-show, but in the end the OT glory was all handed to some Dutch-born boy of Nigerian origin named... Famous. Not shitting you, it is his name. But whatâs the saddest part about this? Famous CLEARLY wanted it all to himself just because of Eurovision being included in the contract. Yet his only victory in life is being the best among the rest of these stars that were watched over 24/7. Unfortunately, Mr. Oberogo couldnât make this out to be in his favour in the Eurovision-special gala, to which the âtriunfitosâ can attend if they have songs chosen for them in the lineup, and yes he was admitted, but then he was given a SUCH DISAPPOINTING SONG EHMERGERD!!!!!!!! :â(
youtube
(lol calm yer ladyhormones, âNo puedo masâ wasnât THAT bad, itâs just that given Famous did songs like âNobody but Youâ (yes THAT one) on the show, youâd expect something contemporary soulful, not just blatant radio filler that could have easily been an EYD reject?)
So how did it all happen that the girls were rooted for to win OT, but in the end the one that wanted Eurovision the most won? And how come the one that wanted the Eurovision the most was given a song that paled in comparison to that one song that was performed by someone who was blatantly against going to ESC because ânuuuuu Israel stop hurting Palestineâ and that one being favoured to win? AND HOW COME ONE OF THE BIGGEST SHOWâS VILLAINS GOT HANDED ABSOLUTE SLAYAGE OF THE SONGS?? Honestly itâs for the best if Spain is just there to subdue everyoneâs expectations, just like they did when choosing Manel (be it because of a corrupt juror or whatever). They did it every single turn of the time this year during OTâs run.
And of course Iâll forever love them for that, as the end result was AN ABSOLUTE FUCKING FIESTA BANGER. Courtesy of Miki (Núùez).
Ngl, the first thing I went in for about âLa vendaâ before listening to it was through this first impression tweet on Mikiâs âeliminatedâ song from the selection, âEl equilibrioâ:
BITCH HOW WAS SHE NOT READY TO SEE THAT COMING AT HER.
Granted, the sudden start of happy sounds rushing right at me was a little startling, but I was able to cope with it and jam to the song in the end.
I completely adore this one, itâs so powerfully joyful with all its instruments and the Spanish language, the interesting turn of events in lyrics, the incredibly easy probability to sing along to this (LO QUE EEEEERE! LO QUE ERE ERE E!), the authenticity, the cultural roots (tbqh Eurovision countries should be welcome to embrace their culture rather than stray further away from it! also this is why more native languages other than English are encouraged)... mmm-mmm.
And like I said, for some reason Miki was seen as a grand villain to the show, and even if I didnât follow OT all that much, I was constantly questioning why, and after seeing him eliminated I only wanted to know if people in Espain were rejoicing about it. The against-agenda turned up onto him again when he happened to have the most songs in the internet selection bunch handed to him (THREE!!! Two solo tracks and a duet.), but nothing there was to worry, as instead other favourites were discovered, therefore Miki ended up in the dust for a while. Up until something happened that got him a big surge of votes at the end. Go figure.
Despite all this, I think itâs the right direction for Spain songwise! Me gusta mucho, and not only personally, but also objectively, honestly. Mikiâs got a right enough good song for the nation and provided the revamp doesnât make it crash and burn (yes, the good friend of a Eurovision song - the revamp! Itâs happening), itâs safe to say that Spain can stand a chance. Not win, for now, but stand a chance. Yes.
Before I repeat myself some more Iâd probably have to add this part for no reason as it came from my Twitter review for âLa vendaâ this time, as I heard songs 1 day before the NF as when I expected the NF to go on Saturday but it was on a Sunday:
BITCH HOW WAS IÂ WRONG. Well mostly thanks to the fact the fanwank-ess of OT ESC Gala actively asked to direct her votes to Mikiâs song (Monika Marija teas amirite), but still, WRONG!
Now that I finally composed my thoughts I guess, letâs all go and read the below verdict Iâm putting this up for:
Approval factor: Iâm giving this a big fat SĂ!
Follow-up factor: Of course I like it way better than âTu canciYAWNâ, thereâs no doubt in it :) and after Almaiaâs romance advertisement theyâre doing a great job by coming back to their great Spanish roots of music, honestly. And itâs better that way than forcing a ship onto a Eurovision 2018 ship, so yeah
Big 5 factor: As of this time Spain lowkey fizzled out with everyone now that a big wave of other faves arised, BUT I donât think that Spainâs drowning in misery this year, not at all! With right kind of energy of the staging and uplift Spain can totally woo them televoters this time around, making them âlo que ereâ their worries away to the sunset. And this is a positive thing - as if juries decide to drown this sometimes and televoters donât, it will still soar somewhere up high enough in top 15.
NATIONAL FINAL BONUS
Now, I donât quite think this yearâs OT was quite as memetic as I expected, but we still have had some pre-NF gems, just like this:
â˘Â âTHEN POLKAâ. That one moment was also brought up to her on her OT Eurovision Gala postcard.
youtube
⢠and this one contestantâs gloriously accidental butt-shot
Though we did have a handful of these kind of moments on the Gala itself (and surrounding it), such as:
⢠NFâs biggest favourite to win songwise not even trying. Yes, there are those NF winners which underperform but only because they donât seem to know better, but did you know that there are THOSE like MarĂa Villar who decide against it? Basically, she was one of those opposing against the situation in Israel with Palestine, so out of protest towards all this, she voluntarily went against doing Eurovision in a nation like this by encouraging her fans to vote for Miki the night before and sacrificing any slightest grains of trying with her performance - by barely dancing on stage and not outselling anything vocally. And it worked to some extent, as she came SECOND only, and shortly after Miki won, she spoke out loud that she was satisfied to not have become the victor (I mean she just thanked everyone for not voting her to ESC lol). But you know what, for situations like these I really do love ESC NFs - where everything predictable is upturned by some sort of events like these. I mean, I like "MuĂŠrdeme", itâs catchy, Latino-appealing enough (for those whores thirsty for Luis Fonsi and similar fucks who sing in Spanish on English songs these days), has a cool breakdown and what not, but it would just probably bring back another disappointing result from Eurovision much to fansâ dismay, especially if the Tel Aviv (oh wait sorry... for Mariaâs case this would have probably been Limassol or Vienna) edition was to bring many bops for this time around that are BIGGER and BETTER than this one. Itâs just happening that itâs unfortunate to be Spain...
⢠Yet again, putting Famous up on here, but of course he was disappointed to not get that win. I know Iâm not the right person to judge considering Iâm WHOLE THREE DAYS YOUNGER than him, but Iâd still tell him he only had RTVE to blame for giving him THAT in the end and putting him through online voting rounds... and speaking of:
⢠Like I mentioned before several times, there was an online voting round for to pick-pocket the songs that sounded the best out of the demo-ic snippets of a minute or less. Its top 3 was of course dominated by ladies and their own bangers/just likeable enough songs, with poor Famous being 4th in it (and the top 3 is a must on there to be automatically admitted to the show without any higher-ups shuffling the other competitors âround later on and toying with their fates). I liked the complete final cut of the Gala for the most part, but boy did they miss out some, like this male laidback-acoustic pop bop âSaleâ, courtesy of Damion Frost. I can at least forgive the loss of âEl equilibrioâ, but this? Nah siree. And yeah I know this whole shtick is a tire, but I like some of it, and I saw a worse track from the same shtick collection qualifying through higher-ups and thatâs NOT boding well with me.
youtube
(yes of course Manel happened but still)
⢠Miki joining the glorious wall of epic NF victory reactions with his O face of total cartooney awkwardness <3
⢠and Eleni Foureira being able to rock a trashbag as a dress during her guest performance of both âFuegoâ and her ânewâ âsmashâ hit in partially more Spanish than âFuegoâ was - âTĂłmameâ. Granted the juxtapose transition was a little too jarring, but hey - 2 songs for a price of 1. Go get them Spanish audience people acknowledging your pop art Elli <3 (also her chitchat with the ESC Gala host about what do you need to do good in Eurovision <3)
At this point Iâm too not fucked to remember more of them but Iâm really sure I missed a lot of the OT lulziness that happened before the Gala, during and after it (such as Natalia (who also sang one song in the NF with Miki himself) not wanting ESC but still trying better than Maria). I donât want to be reminded of them, as my reviewâs as long as it is. But Iâm sure someone else remembers, so Iâll let them judge.

Thoughts about Jonghyun
I became a SHINee fan in 2013. And Iâll admit that it started in a really shallow way. I remember all my friends on twitter talking about various kpop groups and I wanted to be a part of the clique and the conversations so I would look up groups that they mentioned. I canât recall them ever mentioning SHINee but I stumbled on SHINeeâs Ring Ding Dong music video and watched it. It was the first group that I found myself liking how all the members looked and their voices. I became a Minho stan right away and in the beginning I was a bit of a solo stan. I only really cared about him. Then my friends started telling me to watch âOne Fine Dayâ and âHello Babyâ and I started to get a liking for SHINee as a whole and appreciating all of the members as the individuals they were. Minho was definitely my number #1 but I always used to say Jinki â Jonghyun â Kibum â Taemin, are my number #2 because I couldnât rank them.
I always thought Jonghyun was a funny guy, he provided a lot of comedic relief in Hello Baby. His âis this the reality you always wantedâ comments always made me crack up. To me at that point he was still the funny guy, in my head he was the image SM had pushed onto him from debut and so my liking for him didnât go much further. Then he started Blue Night in 2014. And he gave us an insight into his daily life, his struggles and how kind and compassionate of a person he is. SHINee did not have a comeback in 2014, so I spent most of that year watching old shows, listening to their entire discography and really learning the personalities of the members. I would scroll through Jonghyunâs twitter for hours, laughing at his antics â like when he was learning to ride a bike and it got stolen, or him posting memes of Minho and the other members. He also was vocal about lots of injustices and seemed to be such an intelligent and head strong person. At that point Jonghyun was really cemented as my number #2 in SHINee.
In 2015, he debuted as a solo artist. I canât explain how happy I was. I had always just had a loving for Jonghyunâs voice and knowing that he wrote the lyrics to all of his songs made me even happier. I remember coming home from school the day the Crazy music video came out and I watched it like 10 times. I was so amazingly proud of him. I watched every variety show he appeared on that era. The 4 things show was my favourite, it felt like he was giving us such a close insight into his life, even more than he usually did on Blue Night. Even though my favourite SHINee album at that point was the Misconceptions of Me, I never felt the urge to purchase it. But Base was an album that I just had to purchase. I remember all the kpop websites I found that sold albums only accepted payment through paypal and I didnât have an account or really knew how to make one, so I was asking around to everyone I knew if they had a paypal account that I could borrow. I ended up using my Spanish teacherâs account lmao. The first half of 2015 really belonged to Jonghyun and at that point for me it became Minho â Jonghyun, my #1s, Key-Onew-Taemin my #2s.
She Is was my favourite era of his. It was such a bubbly, bright and colourful era. He looked so pretty with his pink hair and so full of life. I remembered just smiling like an idiot when I think Key(?) talked about how Jonghyun was so obsessed with dying his hair pink and about how he was looking at all the different shades and wouldnât stop talking about it. He was so cute. I was so annoying during that era, I wouldnât stop talking about him and how proud I was of him. When that album dropped, I felt such immense joy and happiness for him that I felt like crying, constantly. I was always bitter about that album not getting the recognition it truly deserved.
One of my major regrets is not listening to Blue Night a lot, because of the time difference I was always just getting up at the time it was airing or in school. Whenever I did hear his voice, he always sounded so soft and soothing, even though I couldnât understand what he was saying. I read the translations every morning and I always felt a bit closer to him. It hurt a lot when he left Blue Night, it felt like we wouldnât be able to know him so personally anymore. That even though he was still here, a part of him was still missing. Him leaving Blue Night worried me a lot. I remember asking my friends if they thought something deeper was going on with him because I didnât understand why he would stop doing something he loved so much, especially since heâs done Blue Night successfully when he had a much more hectic schedule.
A lot of Shawols rejoiced when Jonghyun returned to black hair but it also unsettled me. His black hair was gorgeous and beautiful but I remember back in about 2014 or so when people would make posts like âwhen is Jjong going back to dark hair heâs been blond for so longâ it always annoyed me because I thought about him saying that he prefers lighter hair and he associates his dark hair with bad memories. When he dyed his hair back to black, I was worried but I wanted to be optimistic and hoped that he was trying to overcome the bad memories from his past. He seemed to be doing a lot of stuff that seemed like coping â getting tattoos, gaining weight. I thought he was doing so much better. Jonghyun was always the emotional one, always crying, always getting choked up. I liked to make the joke that âif Jonghyun didnât cry at a SHINee concert, then did the concert really happen?â I always thought he was crying because of the immense happiness he was feeling in those moments, but maybe there was pain those cries as well.
It hurts me that people would use lyrics to his songs to make posts about us not noticing until it was too late or why didnât we pay attention. He was always so so open about his struggles with depression and loneliness. But Iâm conflicted because he was also so encouraging, he let us all know that whatever we were going through it would get better one day. I canât say that Iâve ever felt the same amount of despair and loneliness that he felt, but I have felt down a lot, especially a few months ago and songs like Gloomy Clock and Just Chill, really comforted me. Itâs really comforting to know that, despite this person being famous and having so many fans, you can still relate to their struggles and they can relate to yours. I wish people wouldnât say that we failed him, I wish people wouldnât blame themselves. Jonghyun was open about everything and was seeking help, itâs just that the help he was receiving wasnât enough for him.
I always used to say Minho and Jonghyun both have half of my heart. Now it feels like one half is gone and the other half just aches. Everyone whoâs spoken to me probably knows how big of a fan I was of Jongho and how much I adored their interactions. If anything could make me happy it is the moments between Jonghyun and Minho because I felt they had a bond that many others either didnât see or just didnât appreciate. So knowing that Minho is hurting so much because he loves and adores Jonghyun to pieces, hurts me beyond belief. When the news came out that Jonghyun had passed, I wasnât able to put my phone down until I read the words âMinho fainted at the hospital,â and then my heart sank to my stomach and I felt like throwing up. After that I wasnât able to check updates again for hours.
Part of me wants to angry. Why would he do this? Why couldnât it have been an accident that took him away from us instead? Even though thatâs horrible to think about â but it would sting so much less than knowing that he took his own life, that he was hurting and so unhappy that he wanted to leave this world. How much pain was that petite body of his really carrying?
I canât explain how I feel about everything. I donât feel sadness per say but yet I sobbed for the first time in a long time when I found out. When people talk to me about it and say âI know how much he means to youâ I get choked up all over again. I see his face and listen to his music and think âhe canât be gone, itâs all just a bad dreamâ but then I accept that heâs gone and itâs okay but then I think about how he left us and itâs not okay. I live in The Bahamas, I sort of accepted the fact that I wouldnât get to see him in person or attend a SHINee concert one day â but being alive at the same time as him, meant that despite how small, there was still a chance of that happening. Now there isnât.
Iâm sad that he was taken from us so early. Iâm sad that there wasnât much any of us could really do for him. Iâm sad that I wonât ever get to experience his radiant beauty in person, to get to watch him on stage doing the thing he loves the most. Iâm sad that I wonât experience attending a fansign, to have Jonghyun look at me the way he looks at every fan â like theyâre the last person in the world. Iâm sad that a while from now we wonât be able to hear his voice anymore or see his beautiful smile, or see his chest mole or the way his nose scrunches up when he laughs. Iâm sad that he thought he wasnât good enough, because to me he was the most talented and one of the most beautiful people in the world. Iâm sad that eventually we will move on and Jonghyun will become a memory â I donât want him to become a memory, because I wish he was still here with us. I wish we could turn back time and someone could save him, someone could give him all the help he needed. Iâm sad that anything I say or do will never be enough to explain how much he really meant to me. Despite all the things I feel sad about, I find a sense of happiness in knowing that he isnât hurting anymore and that he held on for a really really long time. Heaven gained a true angel.
You did exceptionally well Jonghyun. Rest in Paradise.

music: weekly roundup (our favourite song submissions of the week)
RX - Misery
Robbie Christmas, AKA RX, aims for a sound that touches on the likes of both Vance Joy and Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young. Indeed, itâs a composition of classic and electric. In âMisery,â he starts gently with gentle acoustic guitar plucks: âThrough no fault of mine, my conscience is missing. Never recover from you.â The swell creeps in at the pre-chorus, his vocals a touch overlayed for texture and warmth. By the chorus, RX is in full honesty mode. He sings, âI wish I could get up and walk away. But I think I like the pain of being in misery.â âMiseryâ culminates in a blow of pained, velvety wails.Â
Little Triggers - So Fine
Little Triggers go for high-energy 70s rock in âSo Fine.â Frontman Tom Hamilton explains, âThe song is about falling in love with the âperfectâ partner who is completely in tune with your desires.â They hit the ground running the moment the song starts, with Hamilton howling the second he opens his mouth to sing, âDonât stop what youâre doing. What you got gots a hold on me. Things you do could make a blind man see.â âSo Fineâ generally repeats these three lines, a testament to the wholesomeness of such a love-- straightforward and burning.Â
Isaac Dunbar - mime
Just in time for Valentineâs Day, Isaac Dunbar gives us âMime,â a song about being at the mercy of love. He begins, âCage me. Tell your family and your friends, weâll be stuck right here until the end.â Dunbarâs lush vocals and the playful instrumental betray the underlying darkness to such a relationship. He continues, singing, âYou can dress me however you likeâ and âNow all Iâve got is broken bones and sheepskin.â However, thereâs reason for hope at the bridge: âAn ode to your demise. Itâs pretty clear that Iâm over you...have you got no pride?â The song finishes with âplease donât take offense to this. Iâm just trying to reduce the risk. Iâm your mime.â
Baby FuzZ - What U Gonna Do 4 Luv
Baby FuzZâs âWhat U Gonna Do 4 Luvâ could probably make its way onto a best of disco compilation without anyone noticing it is in fact from the present. It takes 70s funk and combines it with the electropop of today for a groovy five minutes, featuring an instrumental breakdown thatâs just as fun as the rest of the song. Much of the song repeats, âWhat you gonna do for love? What you gonna do for love? When your heart is down in a pool of blood, what you gonna do for love?âÂ
Gidi - Freshman
In âFreshman,â Gidi lyrically and sonically captures the difficulties of coming of age in the new millennium. A low guitar starts. Gidi comes in, his vocals colored by the autotune of hip hop/ pop radio. He admits, âI probably should be dead.â Later, he sings, âI look at pictures of myself. Barely recognize myself.â Freshmanâ feels like slow motion, a testament to the way the world slows when you feel so low.
alextbh - no spaceÂ
âno spaceâ is dance pop illuminated by electric guitar. Itâs rejoicing in finally making a move: âYou and I, letâs make it happen. Know you had it in your mind⌠I donât need no space.â Though straightforward, alextbh keeps it cool with breathy vocals, singing, âGive me all your lovinâ and Iâll give you a little taste.â Itâs a song to play on repeat in the hopes of summer (fling?) to come faster.Â
SĂ - Cathedrals
Indie pop artist SĂ aims to inspire hope in her listeners. With âCathedrals,â she does just that. As she puts it, itâs a song about âthe kind of love that people marvel at,â the way you would stop and marvel at a cathedral. Over a mellow dance beat, SĂâs vocals fall over the way youâd imagine a cloud of glitter would patter across your body. She sings, âWe are like cathedrals. Stories in the glass. Every little feature designed to last.âÂ
Big Thing - Freaking Out
The members of Big Thing met by chance, and serendipitous occurrences call for coloring outside the lines. In âFreaking Out,â Big Thing are punky and soft rock. Mellowed and hard-hitting. Itâs an exciting two and a half minutes of high anxiety, fast guitars and honest. âIâm fading like the night. Iâm holding on for life,â the song begins. When the chorus revs up, they declare, and repeat, âIâm freaking out.âÂ
Van Common - How to Disappear
With âHow to Disappear,â Van Common (real name Sebastiaan van Ravenhorst ) sets himself up as a connoisseur of chillwave fit for an early summer hang. In the song, he sings, âIt was three in the morning when I showed her how to disappear.â He may have become a professional when making this EP, explaining that he secluded himself to a beach house in the Netherlands to make the EP. Itâs a lovely tale of meeting someone right with a light dance track for some background noise.
Camarano - When I Had Infinity
âWhen I Had Infinityâ is a rush hour commute jam to make long car rides worth your while. His too-cool-for-school vocals are supported by easy guitar. The song is Camaranoâs second single from his EP, due out in April. âSort your life out while you still have time,â he sings. The realism floats on in the bridge: âTime was on my side when I had infinity. Time was by my side when now it isnât in me.â
Callow Youth - Did It Really Matter?
âDid It Really Matter?â starts with a fun âWoo!â Itâs the symbolic utterance of optimism, the way you would hope for a fun night with friends. In about three minutes, Callow Youth chronicle such a night. Frontman Alfie Turner explains: "The song is a reflection on a tricky teenage relationships in a world captivated by mobile devices and social media, with two young teenagers going out for a night, with high expectations, only for it to end in a messy argument.â âDid It Really Matterâ is a rock song with a rose-colored ting. The final line of the bridge captures the trickiness of modern teenagehood. Turner sings, âHow does it feel when virtual reality is real?â
Kerchief - Evil PartsÂ
Last week, Kerchief released their first single, âEvil Parts,â off their next album, Fluke. Britt Hill sings, âIâve kept in touch with every evil part of me. I just didnât know,â and later, âI kept in touch with every evil part of you. I just didnât know.â Over a steady rhythm, we understand a toxic relationship as a two way street. âIâm so far away from the truth. To protect my favorite part of you. I stay far away from the truth. Hooked on every evil part of you. Take a piece. Bury me. Dig me up. Follow me home.â For the finale, Hill admits, âI stay far away from the truth. I need every evil part of you. I stay far away from the truth. You need my evil too.â
Arcando - ParalyzedÂ
Jeffrey James brings soul to EDM on Arcandoâs newest track, âParalyzed.â James is honest early on: âThis better be the last time even though I always say thatâŚ. Wasnât it the best we ever had.â In the chorus, he sings, âLookinâ for the door but my feet wonât take me⌠Feelinâ like hell but you keep me paralyzed.â Arcando specializes his track with guitar, but leans into his EDM roots with an explosive drop each chorus.Â

Songs to *Fall* for
Well, kiddos - itâs time to dust off your books, make the annual trip to Staples, and have one last BBQ because summer is over, guys. But if youâre an oldie like me working that full time job, youâre probably unclear of what time of year it is because in your mind, youâre already thinking forward to Spring 2019. lol! It may just be another Tuesday for us, but think back, way back, to when Labour Day meant new possibilities! Take that open attitude and listen to the songs below! These are the songs that have been on repeat in my headphones over the past few months and thereâs no better time to take these songs with you into the Fall and let them bless your lifeeeee -- click HERE to go my Spotify Playlist and read below for more info on each track:
âFade Away (Clean Version)â - Logic
I heard this intro of this song in the first few minutes of one of those new Shondaland shows and had to find out what it was. The opening is a sample looped from an acapella groupâs arrangement of âDeck the Hallsâ - so cool! As soon as that beat dropped in, I was hooked. Iâm not super familiar with Logic, but I like the songâs concept -- itâs about doing something before you fade away. So I put this song on when I need to feel that pump-up motivation to go out and make moves - perfect for a new season, huh?
âThe Bestâ - James Bay
I donât think I need to say much here â the song speaks for itself! If you know the Tina Turner original (which, of course, you should), youâll like this. James Bay has a great voice as well, and this does what a great cover should, gives the song a different feel, but while pointing the listener right back to the original. #TBT
âVainâ - KIRBY
This girl is bomb!!! But I donât know anything about her - anyone got some info? I only know two songs, but both of them I love ALOT. If she ever travels to Toronto, find me a front row seat. Soulful in allllll the right ways (got that organ ending!!!). 100 thumbs up!
âJust The Way You Areâ - James Smith
Another great cover - simply done. I donât know this artist, just came up on my Spotify and it made me feel good! Iâll take an acoustic performance instead of an overly produced single any day of the week. By the time the song ended, I was like, âOkay sir!!â Love this one.
âShy" - Leon Bridges
The new, reinvented Leon Bridges! I was aware of him, but something changed between his first album and second album cuz I definitely like him more than I did before. Love the groove on this one. Check out his whole album âGood Thingâ for more âgood thingsâ hahah (Iâll see myself out lol)
âSixâ - Sleeping At Last
This is an indulgent choice but bear with me! Sleeping At Last is an artist who youâve likely heard in the background of your favourite tv shows (his music is on Greyâs a lot) but heâll do themed albums and this song âSixâ is from a series of songs that he wrote based on the 9 different Enneagram personality types. If you havenât heard of the Enneagram, I would encourage you to look it up and see which type you relate to â for me, itâs 6 and this song was written to reflect/respond to that personality type. For each song, there is also a corresponding podcast where you are taken through how the song was made, and gives you more info on the type. Interested? Go here. I just love understanding more about personality types and knowing that some of the quirks you may have seen as faults are actually just a part of your personality - you are not alone in feeling the way you do!Â
âYour Loveâ - Tim Bowman Jr.
This is my jam of the year! On the morning of my birthday, I put this on and had a little praise dance party - good vibes! When I first heard this one, I loved how it sounded, but then realized he was talking about the Lord?! Yessir! Smooth, smooth, smooth AND a baseline for dayyysss. This just makes me happy - reminds you that despite whatever is going on, you are loved and itâs gonna be ok! Thatâs enough to make me wanna dance~
âTime Will Be The Healerâ - Glen Hansard
I got this song recommended to me through Twitter, but I shouldâve known Iâd like it. Glen Hansard is one of my favourites - it seems a little random, but ever since the ONCE soundtrack, Iâve loved his music. And Iâve wondered what exactly it is, but I think I just really like any artist who sings as if their life depends on it â that raw passion in the last third of the song really comes through. And the sentiment here is true â time will be the healer once again, yes it will.
âWithout Youâ - Leslie Odom Jr.
Wow just realizing how many of these are coversâŚ.lol! Anywhoo, this is another one - this time by Leslie Odom Jr. of âHamiltonâ fame, one of my favourite performers right now. Plus I love how they made this song, which was originally done as a duet into a solo, and with that simple instrumentation, it really showcases his voice. Next on my list - go see Hamilton lol
âUphill Battleâ - Rozzi
A new discovery for me - Rozzi. I first came across this song via a dance video on Twitter and was immediately wondering who the singer was. Her voice is pretty unique and I couldnât place it, so my investigation began! Very new - I donât think she even has a full album out yet, but definitely one to watch! And Iâll link the dance video here â I think a reason I like this song, besides Rozziâs voice, is the concept behind the lyrics. That idea of knowing that you are, or are going to be, a challenge to someone who is trying to love you?! Thatâs some real stuff right there..
âCrazy Loveâ - Chris McClarney
Iâve always liked Chris McClarney, because heâs one of the few praise & worship leaders who, when they sing, really SIIINNNGGG, like he saaaangs. So when my small group leader played this at one of our meetups, I knew it would be good. But I was so touched by the song and every time it comes on in the shuffle, I just have to stop and thank Him. âThereâs nothing that can change it, Your love, your love; thereâs no one that could tame it, this crazy loveâ. What a message to walk into your day with! That there is powerful!
âFor My Goodâ - Judah Band
This song is purely for the shout - just put this on repeat and get into it. Such high energy, it makes me wanna move!!! And itâs a good reminder - no matter what it looks like, ALL things work together for my good! Even the things that seem bad to us at first. Iâve had many car jams to this one â you get to that stop light and are just doing a little shouting in your seat! HEYYY NOWWWWW
âRejoiceâ - Steve Angello (ft. TD Jakes)
I came across this song on an athleteâs Instagram account â the person was doing these intense pull ups with this in the background, and Iâm trying to be on that fitness thang, so I made this part of my workout playlist. I love that this artist just mixed a sermon into this track, like who knew I needed to hear TD Jakes yelling motivation while I worked out?! haha But even when not working out, this will fire you up! âWoe be unto you if you go into another year and waste another year [...] while someoneâs in the hospital begging God for the opportunity that you have right nowâŚâ Now if that doesnât inspire you, I donât know what will!!Â
One last cover to make it an even 14 songs -- weâll end with Jessie Jâs cover of James Brownâs âI Got You (I Feel Good)â - FIREEEEE

GUC - All That Matters Mp3 Audio [Download and Lyrics]
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});
GUC is now out with this song titled All That Matters, a perfect worship song for the times.Â
The song "All That Matters" is a song of dedication, a song of faithfulness, a song fitting for the situations, and in those odd and sour times, when everything seems upside down, then we can be sure to say Lord, "You Are All That Matters". A song fitting for those times that we are confronted with lots of beautiful and tempting things, those pleasurable and momentary gains, then we can be sure to say "Lord, You Are All That Matters".
Even when we are face to face with death, and the gun is pointed at us, and we are required to choose between God, and a situation outside His will, they we can say "Lord, You Are All That Matters".
When everyone threatens to desert and forsake us because of the faith we profess, then we can be sure to say "Lord, You Are All That Matters".

When we choose to put God in front of all our melodies, our joys and struggles, and make Him the utmost focus in our lives, every other things fall into place. Tel Aviv 2019: Straight outta Albania to Eurovision with ethno beats
youtube
Sorry to be late to start all this, but you know, Albanians love doing their show around the Christmas period - whether before or after. xD So after this show, I was rather engulfed in Christmas and stuff, packing the gifs for every family member, putting them under the tree and waking up to see their (belated) reactions to their own gifts. Oh, and a festive dinner on the Eve. (And now it's been less than 1 and a half months since the end of this!)
But enough about that, you guys are here for my honest review, right?
Right.
I, for one, am a true fan of the ridiculous runtime of Festivali i KĂŤngĂŤs nĂŤÂ Radiotelevizion Shqiptar (and how the full lenght title is pronounced with the broadcasterâs name included every other single time), and that's because it allows me to discuss every single detail that I see, that goes wrong, that's just plain hilarious, and printscreen those said things. Among all these weird sights that can be seen during the interval acts and advertisements there's at least one instance of somebody in the show being such a "mood". Just like the broadcaster's current higher up for all things Eurovision at home (i.e.: commentator, spokesperson and occasional conversator), Andri Xhahu:
âmmhmm sure, keep on telling how much you love all the acts while I pretend I care, but in fact Iâd rather just go home and eat something real quickâ
Trust me, everyone in this show is a master of not giving a single damn. Artists, backings, instrumentalists, interval acts even maybe? All kinds of people in Albania are just mediocred out by things happening in FiK, thus nothing is remotely surprising!
Well, except for the results this year. Sure, everyone had their little outrage on social media the very time it was revealed that the international publicâs darling Mirud did not impress the FiK jurors enough to qualify, but others were simply rejoicing that at least another big fave qualified - and to the fansâ dy shokĂŤ, a favourite won once again! And this one is an artsy, mid-tempo call to all of the abroad Albanians to âreturn to the landâ, provided by the one and only, Jonida Maliqi.
And so you thought a big FiK favourite wouldnât manage to win 2 years in a row... let alone reach Eurovision. It was nearly a given FiK juries could rather have had their traditional FiK-ness when picking the winner and that it would have become Lidia Lufi or even one of those old people, one of them being THE CONDUCTOR OF THE WHOLE SHOW (and if he was not qualifying, heâd probably have been ultra upset and leave his position from FiKâs orchestra that he has now observed every year since idk), so itâs refreshing to see Albania take on some new winds - last year with Eugent Bushpepa, this year with Jonida. Not that she was a big favourite of mine though, but you know, âMallâ was so incredibly difficult to top standart-wise that I actually didnât really mind letting go of the songs by Dilan Reka, Klinti Ăollaku and Alar Band (and 3 more nonqualifiers) emotionally. I mean, with the competition this incredibly improving in competence and easy good winners, it was a given that none of these would have even come close to reach a stellar placing in the final leaderboard of FiK. And yes, I consider my taste incredibly out of fashion with what everyone wants. Thank you for noticing.
When I first heard this, I didnât really have a great impression on this track - the 1st verse/chorus and the 2nd verse/chorus have an extreeeeemely long gap between each other, which bothered me. Shouldnât the song have some short enough gateway to pass the point across easier? The second thing is that itâs a little too slow. Not long after she won I became acquainted with the songâs Nightcore versions (yep! 2 of them exist apparently), and going back to he studio version of this, the slowness of it put me off. But on later listens I managed to appreciate its better qualities - the song is intense, tackles a decent topic (which will probably be underlooked if the staging does not account for it clearly enough - looking at you France 2018), the folksy interlude is too precious to be gotten rid off for the upcoming revamp (I just think it needed to be placed elsewhere... until I realized it is in an alright position songwise), the backing vocals at the last few seconds add some charm to the song, and at least there are some vocalisations! Juries obviously love it when an act tests their high vocal abilities, and often great notes donât go too unnoticed by them. Remember why was Eugentâs performance so loved by the juries - if he havenât done THAT, nothing would have given him a final ticket in the first place.
So that means that the first time viewers at home have a hefty fine chance to also not get whatâs happening, right? Unless the music gets drastically devamped (like in 2016) and the performance is too heavy to connect with this song, it is probably going to do alright. The 2nd night performances this FiK were all devoted to the idea of preparing the acts for Eurovision in an unavoidable case of one of them winning. And Jonidaâs performance uses rather cartoonish (but decent cartoonish) city-at-night shots in the background (with street lamps, traffic lights, maybe a bridge and the rest) and several random dancers too, which you can see for yourselves below:
youtube
(Iâd like to inform her though that constantly interchanging street motives on the background arenât a very good addition - Latvia 2009 went with all-round street and city signs and that didnât work, and the 2009 stage was HUGE! Also maybe the dress is a little too extravagant for the topic of the song but thatâs a nitpick. Sorry about it)
And even though itâs just 1 song (and the reason the top 1s keep poping up right after FiK is over - a common practice even among very small Eurovision fan Youtube channels) (edit: now we have 4 songs at the point of me finishing this but still), I do believe that already writing it off is harsh. Obviously the Albanian revamp curse is going to take place, but sometimes it comes to a complete advantage if the artist knows what he or she is doing and how to turn everything to their strenght rather than weakness. Eugent just happened to do more impressive vocal heights than Lindita. And Eugent didnât even need to wear something too extra unlike Lindita, which for some reason was having to deal with a bridal attire..? not a really suitable wear for a song about world problems, yanno what I mean?? So itâs for the better if Jonidaâs team doesnât have to harm the song all too much, choose a connecting staging, do something piercing about it, donât make Jonida look like a clown on stage, and generally donât let her come across as too weird and cold-hearted. She should be seen pouring her heart out and let the world know that sheâs talking to the Albanians (and hopefully even Kosovars) âround the world - to all the Ritas, to all the Duas, to all the Bebes.
Approval factor: I didnât say I hate it so I approve it wholeheartedly! Yes I like.
Follow-up factor: in my sole opinion I would still find âMallâ way better but this current entry is good enough also, so itâs obviously a fair enough follow-up after the previous and the rest past entries for Albania.
Qualification factor: somewhere in the middle of things right now, if only Jonidaâs capable of making everythhing against her work in her favour and shock the naysayers like Eugent did post-revamp that looked like it killed his chances
NATIONAL FINAL BONUS
If you donât want to read any more of my review from this point on, just simply leave this post, thanks!
But if, however, you do want to read these post-ramblings, pls b mah frien.
So did we have Fest 57 through and it always delivered a fiesta of too many ads and too many intervals. Like you could have sworn that this show should have ended 5 years earlier than initially planned. Yet you wake up and find it still going, but more in the post-show form, with the jury still continuing to blabber about what exactly do they like in a contestantâs song for some reason. And then, when you least expect anything to happen - they mention âlista finaleâ! Ahh what a miracle.
Anyway, in this segment Iâm here to highlight some special things that have happened:
⢠The puppetmaster from Night 2. No one knew what was that for, no one knew why was it needed, no one knew if it was even a little bit funny. But this Francesca Michielinâs auntie delivered a bunch of stuffed âhumansâ to show around in front of the camera and stage something out of them. And the world was s h o o k
⢠Sound problems. One contestants had quiet mics at the beginning of the song (and this is FiK, which means that the poor acts WILL get a definite repeat of their entry, even if they had said their word against it. Sorry Miss Pþldvere...), and another act got away with the entirety of it being completely not tuned in correctly soundwise, thus sounding completely all reverb-y and at one point even the mic feed for the backings was louder than the vocals of the artist. Hilariously enough, the both reprised acts won an award!
⢠Speaking of which, everyone thought that the first award of the night was actually the winner announcement. Even me. Oh how much we were falsely alarmed on this particular thing... xD
⢠Obviously the results. I honestly donât think that Mirudâs nonqualification is such a mystery, despite the fact that as of lately the FiK juries are down for uplifting the audience faves. But I saw something that could have turned his song into something unbearably weak and nondescript, despite his pain and heart streamed out in bold colors through the song, considering this is the country that revamps their entries a lot. It could have been, and Iâm dreading to say this but I am gonna say it anyway, a meaningless RânâB ballad trying to show something, but projecting it too weakly. Of course I liked it, but I wouldnât have pointed at it saying; âthat right there, itâs definitely a contenderâ. But I definitely felt sorry for him and his song. Look what I messaged him:
⢠Dilan Rekaâs quality stepdown. Look, I didnât even listen to âMos harroâ as of yet, but I can definitely feel that âKarmaâ is some sort of a sub-par standart entry everyone gave hard time for because it wasnât as likeable as âMos harroâ, which could have been the beginner of the good Albanian streak I suppose had it won the NF over Lindita? Or at least thatâs what the fans think. Anyways, I liked âKarmaâ and I donât ever want to stop defending its fun factor. The only thing not worth defending in this is Dilanâs styling:
No but WHO TOLD HIM YELLOW SUNGLASSES AND THIS SUIT WERE A GOOD IDEA???? leave.
⢠The girl who sang "Hallelujah" during a results break (there were several of these, can you believe that?). That was presumably Ana Kondra (you know, the one that advised to not touch her tree two years back? In JESC?) presumably singing in a personally warped take on English language, if not the actual English.
⢠Somewhere in the world there was hype-a-cominâ for these two: the cheap beats queen Soni Malaj and the retro hipster queen Orgesa Zaimi. While I canât say I disliked their songs legit, it beats me as to what is attracting people to support the latter a lot, considering Orgesa submitted a bit of a huge stepdown from the cheerful âNgrije zĂŤrinâ. She at least retained her hipster attire though, even if without those French sunglasses. Oh and as for Soni, I gotta commend the Eurofan audience for still giving in some cheap Balkan pop trash! Though for country like Albania, it was never gonna win anyways. And I wasnât hyped either. Seriously, who thought that adding some extra confused guys spout âbum bum bumâ at the beginning was remotely GOOD??
Think I noted all momentswise. May I add that Iâm glad to hear Jonida was allowed to sing in Albanian by RTSH (who apparently DECIDE what kind of language is more fitting for their own entry once itâs decided itâs ready for Eurovision???? I feel you, Elhaidaâs composer from FiK 2014, if I had to face these rules, Iâd have quit too)? It definitely takes this song up for advantage, and who cares if no one can understand it - we still have had an Albanian song about personal matters qualify, plus it was performed live on such an unfortunate occasion back at home so the power had to be extremely maxed out for that to work, and it did.
And one last thing: I did only watch the final of this, and the first time I heard this performed live, I was lowkey convinced this would indeed win because the orchestra made it sound like a stereotypical FiK winner - dramatic female ballad/midtempo/whatever having this dramatic power in chorus with all of the instruments blown right onto it. Not even the rest of the top 3 and other ballads this year were this much instrumentally packed. So there goes.

Read what Jephthah has to say about "Reflections mp3 download":Â
Reflections is a song that was birthed in deep meditation, as the song title implies. I came across a scripture (Mark 7:6-7) that revealed that worship could be done in vain if we honor God with our lips when our hearts are far from Him. So I said a prayer to God, to align the words of my lips and the thoughts within my heart, for I realized that anything other than that would be self deception. God cannot be mocked and cannot be deceived. âI cannot look into His eyes and tell a lieâ. I put this prayer into a melody and this song was birthed. I pray that this will become the prayer of believers all over the body of Christ and that we will repent from hypocrisy and from worship that begins and ends only on our lips.

Jephtah Idahosa Reflections Lyrics
[Verse] Let my heart speak the same words with my lips Let my lips give expression to my heart Let the song within my heart be the song upon my lips Let the words upon my lips be true to the thoughts within my heart [Chorus] Cos I cannot look into Your eyes and tell a lie I cannot look into Your eyes and tell a lie I cannot look into Your eyes and tell a lie I cannot look into Your eyes and tell a lie [Bridge] Iâm tired of the hypocrisy Iâm tired of the lies we tell If we claim that it is all so perfect When we know it is not all well Can we get out of this unreal madness And seek the Lord like weâre desperate for Him Drop crowns and titles and just surrender Let our worship be true and pure Cos we canât look into His eyes and tell a lie We cannot look into His eyes and tell a lie No man can look into His eyes and tell a lie I cannot look into Your eyes and tell a lie So let my heart [Verse] (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Let my heart speak the same words with my lips Let my lips give expression to my heart Let the song within my heart be the song upon my lips Let the words upon my lips be true to the thoughts within my heart [Chorus] I cannot look into Your eyes and tell a lie I cannot look into Your eyes and tell a lie [Outro] Thereâs no need to pretend You see my heart the way it is Canât look into Your eyes and tell a lie No no no
