An honest and autistic review of the Mitski concert
I love writing reviews (if you haven't figured it out by now) and usually I write them in my lil journal, but I know Marauders fans generally(?) really like Mitski so I thought I'd share my thoughts. And boy are they controversial.
But before I get into it,
I brought a journal to do some writing, and I've never written so many poetic lines in my life. Also, shout out to the guy sitting next to me who also didn't want to stand up so we could just sit in peace. We bonded over him playing a version of Wordle called Lewdle which @fuckboyregulus @rocurocaine and @thebattlehamster I think you guys would Love.
Anyways, I have never been a fan of her music. I always knew about her because my very best friend has been listening to her stuff since her 2014 album. I literally didn't know she wasn't well known until Tiktok happened, and she got more popular. Which says a lot about my general awareness of pop culture.
Why did I go to a concert for an artist I didn't like? Well Brenda, some of us haven't left the house other than for work, a walk, or the grocery store since August. So when my friend called me to ask if I was free in 3 days for an already paid for event, I said yes.
Now here's the thing. As I am autistic, I have Terrible sensory issues. They're mostly around touch and sound. So on top of already having been in the ER this week, I was sure I was going to have a panic attack mid-concert.
And I didn't. In fact, I had a wonderful time.
She was phenomenal. Her voice is really, truely lovely and she was only off key for one little note in one song. So I was genuinely Shocked when halfway she mentioned to us she had a cold and made washing machine heart a karaoke because of that.
This girl is so talented, I have never enjoyed listening to an artist live, let alone one I didn't listen to beforehand. And I've actually added a few of her songs to my playlists.
Overall the audience was pretty respectful, I saw very few flash videos, but there were times they were screaming so loud I couldn't hear her. (Which by the way, I will NEVER understand?? Why do people scream at concerts it seems very counterproductive)
The lights were a bit intense, but mostly because of where the seats were, and as I didn't pay for my ticket, I had no control over that.
Overall:
Mitski herself: 10/10
Audience: 4/10 (all four of that is for the Lewdle guy)
Any regrets? Forgetting where we had parked at 11 pm in Toronto.
