¡Ya hay cartel para el Coca Cola Flow Fest 2023!

Ya salió el cartel del Coca Cola Flow Fest 2023. Para lxs fanáticxs de la vieja escuela, este año tendremos a leyendas como Wisin y Yandel, Ivy Queen, Alexis y Fido, Maldy, el regreso de Tego Calderón, Zion y Lennox y Tito El Bambino. También habrán muchxs artistas de la nueva escuela como Feid, Young Miko (acá pueden leer la reseña de su presentación en el Coca Cola Flow Fest 2022), Miky Woodz, La Joaqui, Duki, Emilia, Yovngchimi y muchxs más.

El Coca Coca Flow Fest se ha convertido en el festival urbano más grande de todo el mundo. Este año se celebrará los días 24 y 25 de noviembre en el icónico Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez en la Ciudad de México. Los boletos se encontrarán disponibles a través de Ticketmaster.

─ Loud music, drinks flowing, and Sevika standing as your protective shadow at every family festa/fiesta.

─ "Is it always this loud?" she asks, amused as your relatives sing and laugh.

─ Your tío challenges her to a drinking contest, and Sevika wins, earning the family’s respect.

─ She ends up grilling meat during churrascos/asados, becoming the center of attention despite herself.

─ Sevika loves when you speak Spanish (or portuguese) even if she doesn’t understand half of it

─ Hearing you call her gata or meu amor makes her weak in the knees.

─ When you’re angry, your rapid-fire Spanish (or Portuguese 2×) leaves her grinning like an idiot. “What was that, bunny? Say it slower.”

─ You teach her terms of endearment, and hearing her call you mi reina in her deep voice makes your heart skip.

─ She gets flustered when you switch languages mid-sentence: "C'mon, baby, pick one!"

─ Sevika grows fond of listening to Latin music while working, sometimes humming along just to make you smile.

─ Her guilty pleasure becomes Brazilian funk, though she’ll never admit it

─ You catch her humming bossa nova tunes under her breath when she thinks you're not listening.

─ Sometimes you’ll switch to Spanish mid-argument just to mess with her. She hates that it makes you win every time.

─ Sevika melts when you call her mi amor too! , though she tries to play it cool.

─ Forehead kisses are her favorite, followed by wrapping her strong arms around you!

─ "Come here, amor," she murmurs, pulling you into her lap after a long day.

─ Sevika is surprisingly soft when it’s just the two of you. Her hand always finds your waist or the small of your back.

─ Public displays of affection are subtle — a protective arm around your shoulders, her fingers brushing yours.

I’m convinced that Branch learned every single dance style in that little bunker of his because the way he flows within the song with the k-pop gang and the reggaeton group’s danc so casually just by listening to the music and watching them dance for a few seconds like yeah reggaeton and k-pop are still under the Pop genre but still like?????

I also like to imagine that he practiced his voice range as a tween too cause no way that man can pull off a high note after not singing for 20 years

(and maybe because Branch’s brothers would come back so he oracticed his singing and dancing so thst maybe that they could form their band again after years if their disbandment)

Floyd - Cut Ex Boyfriends

After much thought, some of the backstories of these ex boyfriends have not developed as organically as I had hoped. It's like I was adding them for the sake of adding them and trying to stick to the results of that recent poll I did. :P

Only two of them were fully finished. West and Bermuda.

Bermuda is from across the ocean, he is a distant relative in the Techno Royal Family so he is like a Duke or something. Their tribe lives in a tropical lagoon, they have more Polynesian vibes, and their music is more like lo-fi. The spots on his tail are supposed to look like an island whilst the ones on his arm are supposed to look like a tattoo.

West was training to take over the family farm from his dad Quarry but he secretly wanted to be a musician. Floyd was supposed to overstep and try to talk to West's dad for him. Quarry chased him off the farm. Floyd would come back years later to apologise, to find one of West's sisters running the farm. Quarry had given West permission to pursue music.

The other two were Fever and Mojito which I didn't get around to drawing.

Fever was going to be the last Disco Troll. He would preach the return of Disco like a religion. He would take in a homeless Floyd and try to convert him to Disco.

Mojito was a Reggaeton Troll who was Floyd's roommate in 'Under Rageous'. Mojito was in a polyamorous relationship and offered Floyd into said relationship. Floyd tried but decided it wasn't for him.

Feel bad to cut them but some of their stories were too similar to the remaining boyfriends or they just didn't fit into the overall story flow.

Is Drake not black? I don't listen to his music so only ambiently know about him as a Canadian, and he's always sold himself as black

My thoughts are under the cut. TLDR at the bottom.

Here’s what I’ll say, Drake is mixed. Mixed or Biracial people might be considered Black depending on where you’re at in the world. Many mixed people identify as Black in the US. But it’s not about whether or not Drake identifies as Black. Having a Black Canadian parent doesn’t entitle him to appropriate Black American cultures.

He appropriates Black American rap styles and cultures, down to the city, depending on what’s popular at the time. He steals flows from other artists. And flows are usually geographic. A rapper from Memphis is not gonna rap like dress like or act like someone from Chicago or someone from Brooklyn or someone from LA or someone from the DMV or someone from Atlanta. This has shifted a bit since the advent of social media. But rap is still deeply rooted in geographic traditions. Most rappers would agree that a city makes a rapper not the other way around. Rap is a very geographic thing because it’s shaped by lived experiences and communities. It’s a form of music that is inherently based in the community.

Drake steals culture not even just from Black Americans, he dabbled in afrobeats when it was on the up, he hung out in the UK for a bit and sidled up to Drill and Grime artists there (according to people over there).

Drake slips in and out of various black cultures like they’re costumes in a way that his contemporaries don’t. Yeah, it’s fine for music artists to update their sound based on what’s popular. We’re all shaped by our environments. But Drake does it to such a degree that it’s disingenuous plagarism. It’s a hustle to him not a craft.

And because of that, it feels deeply unserious for nonblack people to call him the king when he’s only ever been a tourist.

Rap is a Black American music tradition, rooted in Black American experiences. I’m not trying to invalidate other rap traditions from other parts of the world (like UK Drill or Grime). I respect it, but know the roots.

And other music traditions don’t get treated this way. Nobody is lining up to hear Reggaeton from a Spaniard. An Irish person probably wouldn’t take an Englishman’s attempt at Irish folk seriously. There’s distinctions between Jpop, Kpop, and Cpop.

And the rock genre wars? Oh you’d probably get jumped in the early 2000s if you called Avril Lavigne the best rock artist, or even a rock artist at all back then. (You can tell my knowledge of non-Black music is limited lol.)

My point is that Rap is a Black American music tradition. It’s a music tradition. Well over 50 years in the making at this point. But then it leaked into the mainstream, it got popular outside of Black American spaces. And now anyone with a DAW and dream is a rapper. People who don’t know jack about the culture. People who have never been in that environment, never cyphered, never battle rapped, can’t freestyle, etc. are calling themselves rappers. It’s frustrating.*

I’ll cut myself off before I go on about how most Black American music traditions have been apropriated and detached from Blackness. But hopefully I said something informative for someone with this long ass rant.

TLDR: Drake is a mixed race Canadian. Not a Black American. Rap is a Black American tradition so he was always gonna be a tourist. Also probably just watch FD Signifier’s videos about it. There are many good ones on this topic, I’d start with the one from 3 years back called “Drake and the Death of Hip Hop.”

*That last bit wasn’t specifically for Drake. Drake has weasled himself in Black American spaces at this point. That was for all the dull uncultured derivates popping up left and right like whack-a-moles.
