NEXT SESSIONS ALERT! GENERAL ECHO XMAS PARTY FRIDAY 10 DECEMBER @ WALTHAMSTOW TRADES HALL
Regular reggae disco in North-East London playing dub, dancehall, roots, rockers, ska, rocksteady and other bass transmissions on two turntables and a space echo. The night is named after sadly departed MC Earl Anthony Robinson, the voice behind classic deejay tunes such as "Drunken Master".
For our December session we're delighted to welcome back Lucky Cat Zoë to Walthamstow. Zoë is a DJ, broadcaster, cook, illustrator, mum, East Asian culture connoisseur and reggae vinyl junkie. Founder of all female reggae selection crew Sisters Of Reggae (2016 - 2021), she currently puts on 'Lucky Cat's Sound System Nights' a monthly party at Pop Brixton. She last selected for us back in October 2018 at our old venue The Victoria (r.i.p), and we can't wait to have her back.Come down and listen to some of the greatest music ever made in a beautiful old school club.

One night, six thematic sets, six different strands of reggae DNA presented in fine styles:
7 - 7.30 - classic dub album playback

8.30 - 9.30 - ska and rocksteady (guest selections from Laura DaggerDeb)
9.30 - 10.30 - mirrorball reggae
10.30 - 11.30 - digital damage

After 1 July, we're really excited to have Tiny T the Mighty Cloudburst on Friday 13 August. Tiny T (aka Tennyson Goulbourne) is the son of Freddie Cloudburst who ran a sound system in the 1960s and mentored the great Jah Shaka! More details on this soon but make sure you make a note in your diary, this will be an unmissable evening of incredible tunes

TONIGHT!!! Our December edition is a very special XMAS SELECTOR RELAY! A bumper bill of local selectors (plus a couple of ringers from neighbouring Hackney) + live MC coming together to raise money for a very worthwhile cause, local food bank Eat Or Heat. Master Of Ceremonies: Clapper Priest https://www.itzcaribbean.com/music/reggae/reggae-artists/clapper-priest/ Selectors: Vital Sound Ray "the thinking man's skinhead" (Wood Street Indoor Market) Marcus Upbeat Computer Crash (aka Seb Kernst) Daddy B (Byron's YARD) General Echo Sound System residents All taking place in one of Walthamstow's loveliest and most inclusive pubs, a short walk from Walthamstow Central tube and bus station, though please note the venue unfortunately isn't wheelchair accessible. £5 on the door, all proceeds to Eat or Heat. There will be collection buckets in the venue also, anything you can give would be gratefully received - it's going to be a tough winter for some people in the area.

For our October session we're very pleased to welcome back Nabihah Iqbal to General Echo, having last spun tunes for us at our lovers rock special at the much-missed Victoria in February 2020.
Nabihah is a musician, producer, curator and broadcaster from London. As well as a recording artist who has made records for Ninja Tune and other labels, Nabihah is a renowned DJ who has presented numerous shows on BBC Radio, played clubs around the world, been an artist-in-residence at Somerset House, guest edited an issue of Mixmag, been commissioned to compose music for the Turner Prize, and much much more. Nabihah is always packing a box of killer tunes for the right occasion and will no doubt be rocking the Trades Hall dancefloor with a fine selection of roots, reggae, dub and more.
