Surprise Visit
Late submission for Regeith Mini Event day 2: Blade of Marmora/Off the Mission
@thegalranetwork
The ship landed in the dock at the Blade of Marmora base, and Regris stood up. He immediately regretted it. Every bruise on his skin and every muscle in his body from his head to his tail screamed at him. He couldn’t wait to lie down in bed. But there was one thing he had to do before he could get some sleep: call Keith. He was a quintant late for their usual video call and Keith would be worried sick about him. Looking forward to seeing Keith’s face was the only thing that kept him moving as he made his way out of the ship.
The hangar was empty at this late hour, except for one shorter Blade who was standing by the entrance. When Regris walked past him, the other grabbed him by the hand. Once he saw him from the front, Regris recognized the mask immediately.
“Keith!” Regris exclaimed. They took off their masks, and Regris leaned down to give him a kiss. “What are you doing here?”
“I had a message to deliver to Kolivan,” Keith said. “But since they told me you were coming back tonight, I waited for you. Aren’t you happy to see me?”
“Of course,” Regris said, hugging Keith and nuzzling his temple. “But I feel bad for making you come all this way and then wait for me…”
“Shh. It’s worth it. I wanted to see you,” Keith said earnestly. “How was your mission, dear?”
“Exhausting,” Regris sighed, slumping his shoulders and leaning heavily against Keith.
“I figured. Let’s get you to bed,” Keith said. He scooped Regris up in his arms and trotted out of the hangar.
“I can walk on my own,” Regris protested.
“But I want to carry you,” Keith insisted. Regris couldn’t argue with that. He relaxed and nestled his head on Keith’s shoulder, purring contentedly. He may have dozed off even before Keith laid him down in his bed.

Pouncing Practice | Ao3 Link
another late entry for the Regeith Mini Event that was run by @thegalranetwork
bby regeith this time :3c
“I dare you to sneak up on Thace,” Regris whispered. The older cub was leaning heavily against Keith’s back, resting his arms and chin on top of Keith’s head. They both watched Thace from across the room, hidden in the shadow of one of the large storage crates.
Keith was hesitant to try sneaking up on his dad, especially given what had happened the last time he and Regris had practiced their sneaking. Regris’s tail had given them away when he accidently knocked over a beaker in one of the examination rooms. Chief Medical Officer Kellun hadn’t been too pleased, and Thace had given them both a stern talking to about being more careful.
“Why don’t you?” Keith challenged quietly, lightly shoving his friend away. Regris stumbled with a yelp, before catching himself using his tail. After righting himself, he frowned back at Keith.
“Boys, are you two behaving over there?” Thace called from the other side of the room. He turned his head to look over his shoulder, ears standing at attention. “Not doing anything mischievous, I hope.”
“Nothing!” Regris and Keith chimed innocently.
Thace gave a noncommittal hum, looking unconvinced as his ears pinned back against the sides of his head. However, while he seemed skeptical, he turned his attention back to his datapad and continued going through ‘Blade Stuff’—that was what he had called it when Keith asked earlier.
Keith gave a slight start when he felt Regris’s tail against his back, but ignored Regris’s soft snickering.
“We just have to be quiet,” Regris insisted. “Like Ani showed us.”
“Be as silent as possible,” Keith repeated, trying to mimic Antok’s deep, gruff tone to the best of his ability. As he spoke, a bright grin broke out on his features—and Regris was quick to mimic it.
Sneaking around was something Keith had been doing since he could barely walk. In the beginning, most of his practice had been on Antok’s tail—and later, on Antok himself whenever he cubsat. After becoming friends with Regris, Keith had used him as a target more than once, leading to an impromptu playfight. But Keith had never practiced sneaking up on one of his dads before.
Now, he tried to focus on making sure his feet didn’t hit the floor too hard. He didn’t have to worry about toe-claws clicking against the floor like Regris did. Sneaking up on Thace was surprisingly easy. Every time one of Thace’s ears twitched or turned, Keith was stop creeping forward, giving Regris the clue that they should stop. As they grew closer, and ducked into the shadow of one of the storage units, Regris seemed to be unusually hesitant to move.
“Scared?” Keith teased.
“Scared?” Regris repeated, speaking a little louder than Keith thought was necessary. “Of Tha—?”
One of Thace’s swiveled backwards in their direction, and Keith immediately slapped one of his hands over Regris’s mouth, drowning out the rest of what he was going to say. Regris stiffened, ears going alert as his tail tip twitched back and forth against the floor, brushing softly against the surface. However, after a tick, Thace continued going about his work, lightly shifting one storage crate to the side with his boot, before crouching down in front of another crate.
Keith and Regris remained still for another half-dobosh or so until Keith was reasonably sure that Thace wasn’t aware they were there.
“C’mon,” Keith whispered. “He’s a sitting kara bird right now.”
“You think he heard us?” Regris asked, and Keith noticed how he was nervously flexing the fangs that were tucked against the roof of his mouth.
“Only one way to find out,” Keith said, carefully crawling out of their hiding place.
Thace appeared to be too focus on his work to notice the cubs that were sneaking up on him, gaze trained on the datapad he held in hand. His claws lightly tapped against the surface, and he was frowning at the words on the screen, but Keith couldn’t make out any of them. Keith stopped crawling when he was within striking distance. Settling back on his toes, he readied himself to pounce—
“Don’t even think about it, kitling,” Thace deadpanned, not looking up from his work.
Keith groaned, pouting irritably as leaned heavily against Thace’s side. “How’d you know?”
Thace snorted. “I’m your father, I know everything.”
“Nuh uh,” Regris said, leaning against Thace back as he tried to peer over his shoulder to see the datapad. “My papa knows everything.”
“Thay knows more!” Keith argued.
“All fathers know everything,” Thace cut in, ears twitching in amusement. “Now, how about you two go over there and try sneaking up on me again, okay? I’m almost done, and then we can go and get a snack.”
At the mention of food, both cubs immediately ran off to find a new hiding place in order to try sneaking again.

Regeith Mini Event Day 1: Loyalty/Sacrifice
@thegalranetwork
keith paced back and forth nervously, thoughts running a mild a minute.
he sighed, forcing himself to sit.
“what am i doing?” he whispered.
“overthinking, is what you’re doing.” keith’s head snapped up, seeing shiro holding a purple flower crown in his hands. keith huffs, looking away.
“i’m not..” he muttered. shiro chuckled, walking toward him placing the crown on his head.
“it’s almost time.” he says gently pulling keith to his feet and fixing the sari, ulaz called it that when he had put it on him. the top was a light purple, and the bottom a darker purple. it was fairly large on keith, as this is for regular sized galra. “are you ready?”
keith looks up at shiro, who has a smile on his face.
is he ready?
keith takes a deep breath in, before nodding once.
“yes.”
“do you swear loyalty to your mate. through sickness and health. through life and death. as long as the stars burn?”
kolivan spoke, his eyes staring hollowly at regris, keith can practically feel the fire that burns through them. keith bites his lip, holding in his laugh as regris squeezes his hand slightly.
“i swear loyalty.” the deepness and sincerity of regris voice, sent a shiver down keith’s spine. ignoring the soft ‘oh, he better’ from lance, and the soft sounding hit that came after.
kolivan then turned to keith, his gaze softening and his ears moving only slightly back. keith could almost see him smiling.
“do you swear loyalty to your mate, through sickness and health. through life and death. as long as the stars burn?”
keith turned his head, staring up at the galra who made him feel something different than anyone has ever made him feel. in that moment, he knows he found what lance is always talking about whenever he’s with shiro, and doesn’t want to lose it, ever. he smiles brightly, his vision starting to blur as he nods.
“i swear loyalty.”
i tried :))))))))

Speak From the Heart
A late entry for the Regeith Mini Event day 1 loyalty/sacrifice, posted on free day so it’s also that (but I have more for free day!)
Wedding fic. Please enjoy~
@thegalranetwork
ao3 here
Keith’s steps shook as he walked up to the platform, struggling not to trip over his long robe. Even though only team Voltron and the Blades he was closest to were there, he still felt like too many eyes were on him. He tried to keep his head high while walking down the aisle, but once he was standing on the platform he realized he was staring at his feet.
Regris’s fingers brushed under his chin and tilted his face up to look at him. “What’s wrong?” he asked.
“I’m nervous,” Keith whispered.
Regris smiled warmly, the fangs at the corners of his mouth poking out over his lip. Now Keith’s heart felt like it was about to pound out of his chest for a different reason. Regris looked breathtaking, with the pale gray sheer robe draped over his bluish skin.
Thace and Ulaz had essentially become Keith’s adoptive parents, and when Keith and Regris announced that they were getting married, they offered to let them wear their robes from their own wedding. Keith wore Thace’s, and Regris wore Ulaz’s, tailored to fit his tail, of course.
Keith thought he looked less than stunning in Thace’s black robe. For one thing, it was too big. Thace had hemmed it up for Keith, but he still left it a little too long, reluctant to sacrifice any more inches of the intricately woven fabric. Thace had been fiddling with Keith’s collar up until the moment he was supposed to walk through the doors, and far from making Keith confident in his appearance, it only made him more anxious.
Regris rubbed his thumb along Keith’s cheekbone. “I’m nervous too,” Regris assured him. “Just really good at hiding it.”
He took Keith’s hands in his, and then, impulsively, pulled him against his chest and rested his chin on top of Keith’s head. They weren’t supposed to stand this close this early in the ceremony, technically, but Keith was sure no one would mind. They knew how he was. He liked to be touching Regris. If Keith and Regris were sitting in the same room, one of them would end up in the other’s lap within five minutes. Even if they were in a diplomatic meeting and both happened to forget that they were supposed to act professional. Keith laughed, remembering that incident, and leaned into Regris’s chest.
Regris wrapped his arms around Keith’s waist, and Keith did the same. They started swaying back and forth to the soft music that was playing over the speakers, Regris’s tail sweeping lazily along the floor. Regris hummed along to the music and purred deep in his chest. It did wonders to soothe Keith’s nerves. Keith barely noticed when Regris’s humming changed to speaking, reading off the long speech they were both told to memorize, the Marmora wedding vows. Keith didn’t feel the need to listen to the words, just the cadence of Regris’s deep voice. He already knew the speech by heart himself. Instead, he ran his fingers through Regris’s mane as he stared out at the audience.
Weddings in the Blade of Marmora were not always a public affair. They didn’t require an officiant or witnesses, because in their secret society where most of their members were undercover, those might be hard to come by. They had their sacred script and that was enough. As nervous as he was, Keith remembered that he had wanted his friends to be there.
Everyone was sitting in one row, in a semicircle that curved around the platform. Keith’s eyes first went to Shiro. His long-time best friend was looking back at him with a proud smile. On either side of Shiro were Allura and Matt, holding Shiro’s hands. They had had an Altean trio wedding earlier in the year. It had been the Altean royal family’s best-kept secret that Alfor was married to Coran as well as his wife, and they had followed the same tradition when Allura wanted to get married to Shiro and Matt. Coran was sitting beside Allura at the end of the row, with a solemn expression and tears in his eyes.
Next to Matt sat Pidge, who was watching raptly, like they were playing out a movie. Beside her were Shay and Hunk, who had also gotten married a few years ago. Shay had come all the way from the Balmera to the Blade of Marmora base for Keith’s wedding, and Keith was a little embarrassed about that, because he didn’t know her that well. But it obviously made Hunk happy that she was there, and that made Keith happy too.
On the other side of Hunk, at the end of the Voltron side of the row, Lance was sobbing. The first thought that crossed Keith’s mind was that it was because even Keith, his former rival, had found someone before Lance, the self-proclaimed ladies’ man, did. Lance would probably say that was the reason if asked, but Keith knew that wasn’t it. They had grown from their immature teenage bickering to being close friends over the past seven years. Seeing him so emotional over Keith being happy set off a pang of fondness in Keith’s heart.
There was a small gap in the row, and on the side of the platform closer to where Regris was standing were the Blade of Marmora guests. Thace was crying on Ulaz’s shoulder, and Ulaz was gently soothing him, nuzzling his head. Antok and Kolivan looked more composed, but by the way Kolivan’s hand was tightly clasped around Antok’s, he could tell that the leader was probably getting emotional under that scowl. Antok had his mask on, as always, so it was possible he was crying too. It was a teary occasion for everyone, it seemed.
Keith glanced around the room again, and he couldn’t understand why he’d been so nervous. These were his allies, his friends, his family. His blood family, the Marmorans, and his found family in Voltron. And Regris, his husband, his new family.
Regris nudged the top of Keith’s head with his chin. “Yes?” Keith murmured, looking up at him.
“Now’s the part when you’re supposed to proclaim your undying loyalty to me, remember?” Regris said with a cheeky grin.
Keith’s eyes widened. He had been so distracted that he hadn’t even noticed that Regris finished speaking a minute ago. Now it was his turn to say the speech. The speech that he’d completely forgotten.
Keith fidgeted nervously, spinning his black hematite wedding ring. Regris had not only researched human culture enough to know that rings were the traditional wedding trinket, but enough to make him an ace ring with a spinner. That way, he would think of Regris whenever he got anxious, when he needed it most. It was little things like that that made his heart swell up with love for Regris… and suddenly he didn’t need to remember the speech.
Keith looked up at Regris, his eyes shining with determination. “Regris,” he said. “I love you so much. More than anything in the universe.” He struggled to keep the words coming out when he saw Regris’s lip quivering. “I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with you. I swear to protect you and keep you close to me. I am yours, as you are mine…”
Keith trailed off when he noticed the tears pooling in Regris’s amber eyes. “You went off the script…” Regris murmured. “That was beautiful, dear…”
He swept Keith up in his arms and kissed him, lips surging into his. Keith laughed when Regris started kissing and nuzzling all over his face, rubbing their noses and cheeks together. He swung his legs, and Regris put him down, then enfolded him in a tight hug. His friends were cheering and applauding.
Keith didn’t know how long this happiness would last. This was their first day off in so many weeks, and after the wedding was over, they would have to return to leading the Coalition and fighting the Galra Empire. They all knew that dismantling a 10,000-year-old empire might take longer than their lifetimes, and it wore them down. Since Keith was a paladin again and Regris was still running missions with the Blade, they were long distance most of the time, never knowing if their last visit or their last call would truly be the last.
But for now, in Regris’s arms, he could hope that the war would be over soon. That one day they would know a peaceful life, wake up in bed together and see each other’s faces, happy and healthy and alive. For now, they had this moment and they had each other, and Keith would do everything he could to make sure that it lasted forever.

From Pouncing Practice
Pick a passage from one of my fics and i’ll give commentary
ohhhhh i love pouncing practice so much Raised Amongst the Stars, they’re childhood friends so yeah expect to see regris in that fic eventually cause i love my bby so much and i also frequently work with the idea that the blade doesn’t really have childcare on the main base cause cubs aren’t there frequently enough for it. so the adults basically flipflop on who watches them, even if they’re working... thace takes up the job most often because he’s the one that keef likes the best.

this is like....... dialogue pulled from tarzan (the disney movie i mean) XD because it just fit the scene so well, so i decided to add it in because that’s one of my favorite scenes from that movie and like?? of course thace would know his cub well enough to know when keef is sneaking up on him... helps with the learning experience, so keith knows that he needs new tactics :P cubs have a tendency to sneak around after all

When the paladins went to space, Lance had kept his phone and used it for the calendar, and he insisted on keeping track of the date and getting everyone on the castle to celebrate Earth holidays. Keith fondly remembered the chaos that had ensued when Coran misinterpreted the point of Halloween and filled all of their rooms with candy. Since he was going to be on the Blade base for what was supposedly Christmas, Keith decided to try teaching the aliens about Earth holidays, too, even though he hadn’t experienced much of the Christmas tradition himself.
“Merry Christmas,” Keith said, sitting down next to Regris in the cafeteria.
“What is a Christmas?” Regris asked.
“It’s a holiday we celebrate back on Earth in the winter…” Keith started to explain.
Regris cocked his head to the side. Even with his mask, which he always wore because it had corrective lenses for his nearsightedness, it was an endearing gesture. “What is winter?”
Keith blinked. He didn’t think he’d have to start that far back. “Uh, it’s a season? I guess you don’t have seasons in space but you know, when you’re on a planet, when the weather changes?”
“I have spent most of my life on the base, but I have visited planets like Olkarion, and they don’t have ‘seasons’,” Regris remarked.
“Yeah, I guess Earth is kind of weird like that,” said Keith. Regris was so curious that anyone talking to him had to be prepared to go down a spiral of tangents. Luckily, Keith always enjoyed their meandering conversations. “Winter is the cold season, when it snows and stuff.”
Regris shivered at the mere suggestion. “I don’t like the cold. I would much rather spend my life on a climate-controlled base.”
“Of course you would,” Keith teased. Regris wasn’t built for the cold like some of the long-furred Galra. His fur was short and sleek, velvety to the touch, but it didn’t provide much insulation, and his suit wasn’t enough to make up for it. Keith had heard Regris complain about the cold plenty of times when they were on missions.
“Is the cold season necessary for this holiday?” Regris queried.
“No, not really. We celebrate it back on the castle anyway.” Keith hesitated. “I mean, we probably would. The other paladins like to celebrate Earth holidays.” He sighed wistfully. As much as he appreciated his time at the Blade, training, learning about his heritage, and hanging out with Regris, he still felt homesick.
“We could celebrate it here,” Regris suggested. “What is involved?”
“Um, decorating the house, ugly sweaters, giving gifts…”
Regris gasped. “I don’t have a gift to give you.”
“Well, that’s one place we could start,” Keith said with a laugh.
“Christmas sweaters?” Thace repeated.
“Yes,” Keith said, standing in the doorway of Thace’s office, hugging his arms to his chest and swaying back and forth on his feet nervously. “I was wondering if you could help me knit Christmas sweaters for everyone.”
“Sure. It might take a few days, but I would be happy to,” Thace replied. His alert ears tilted forward in Keith’s direction. “It looks like something else is on your mind, Keith. What is it?”
“How do I tell Regris that I like him?” Keith blurted out, a blush heating his cheeks.
Thace stifled a snort. “Well, assuming just telling him is out of the question…” he began. Keith shot him a glare. “Handmade gifts are a traditional expression of affection in Galra culture.”
“Really?” Keith said. “I… I don’t know how to make anything.”
“I’ll make something and you can take the credit for it,” Thace offered.
Keith rubbed the back of his neck. “Thanks, Thace,” he said bashfully.
“No problem,” said Thace. “Now if you wouldn’t mind, could you explain to me what in Zarkon’s empire a Christmas sweater is?”
For a culture that supposedly didn’t celebrate holidays, the Blade of Marmora went all out for their Christmas party. Every inch of the usually bare halls of the base was draped in tinsel. Thace had gotten some help from Antok and knitted everyone Christmas sweaters with a Marmoran flair, purple lights woven into red, green, and black fabric. Even Kolivan was wearing one over his tunic.
Keith walked into the ballroom wearing his sweater with pride. It was red with a Voltron symbol in lights on the chest. He saw Regris across the room, looking cozy and warm in his sweater with the sleeves pulled up over his claws, and Keith’s heart fluttered a little. Regris’s sweater had a matching design, green with a glowing star on the chest. He wondered if Thace had done that on purpose.
Regris perked up when he saw Keith, his tail waving excitedly. Keith felt his cheeks burning as he walked towards him, and unlike Regris, he wasn’t wearing a mask to hide it. “Merry Christmas, Keith!” Regris chirped.
Keith took a deep breath and handed Regris his present, a soft bundle. Regris ripped open the wrapping paper eagerly and unrolled a long purple sleeve of fabric. He held it up at different angles, examining it. “What is it?”
“It’s a tail sock!” said Keith. “You’re always complaining about how your tail is cold and you don’t have any clothes that fit your tail, so I, uh… got it for you.” He left out the part where Thace did most of the work. It was Keith’s idea, anyway.
“Oh, Keith, thank you so much!” Regris deactivated his mask, and nuzzled his face into the soft fabric. Regris’s smile was like an arrow to Keith’s heart. “Now open yours!” he chirped. He handed Keith a small rectangular package.
Keith gingerly peeled back a corner of the wrapping. It was a small red book. He opened it. On each page was a picture of one of his friends from the castle, and a letter from them wishing Keith a merry Christmas.
A smile spread across Keith’s face. “Regris, how did you get these?” he asked, his voice cracking slightly.
“Well, you sounded like you missed them and spending the holidays with them. So I contacted the castle and asked them to send me pictures and letters. They all responded right away. They really miss you, too.”
“Regris… This is…” Keith was already having trouble forming words, but when he turned to the last page, his breath caught in his throat. There was a picture of Regris smiling, next to a small note:
Meet me under the mistletoe. ♥ Regris
Keith blinked away the tears that had gathered in his eyes and looked up. Regris was holding his tail above Keith’s head, with a sprig of mistletoe tied to the tip of it.
“There’s one more Christmas tradition that Lance told me about,” Regris said with a cheeky grin.
Keith blushed. “Regris, you—!!” he started to say before Regris’s lips collided with his.

Hijinks and Mall Cops | Ao3 Link
a late entry for the Regeith Mini Event that was run by @thegalranetwork
Keith hadn’t really thought that he would ever end up back at the Space Mall. He certainly hadn’t considered the possibility that he’d end up running mundane errands there. He called it ‘busywork’. Just to be polite. Regris, on the other hand, called it Kolivan trying to keep us out of trouble because of that one time—’. There had been more than ‘one time’ that Kolivan had been called to get them out of trouble. It had ended with Kolivan bailing them out for ‘disrupting the peace’ and getting into trouble with a security guard at a transport hub. Thankfully the security guard hadn’t been able to work out who they were.
So, Keith couldn’t say that he blamed Kolivan for giving them busywork. If it meant that he didn’t have Kolivan lecturing him like some sort of exasperated parent, Keith was more than happy to do mundane checklists. Still, he didn’t think the list Kolivan had given them upon arriving at the Space Mall before leaving to do ‘important’ shopping needed to be as extensive as it was. But he wasn’t going to complain about being able to spend time with Regris, even if he was mostly answering whatever odd question popped into Regris’s head at that tick.
“What is a cow?” Regris asked as he reached to grab something off of a high shelf. Carefully, he peered at the box, adjusting how his glasses sat on his face as he checked the label to make sure it was what he had wanted. Giving a satisfied hiss, he tossed it into the basket that Keith was carrying and then carefully wrapped his tail around Keith’s wrist again and continued leading him along.
Keith decided to ignore the fact that whatever Regris had just grabbed likely wasn’t on the list at all.
“Like Kaltenecker,” Keith said simply. She was the only cow he had seen in space, and he didn’t really know how to explain what a cow was to someone who had never seen one.
Regris didn’t look away from the shelves, lightly tapping his chin. A tick later, his forked tongue flicked out of his mouth as his tail tip moved back and forth, scraping against the floor of the market. “Oh, I see…” he said, nodding seriously. “Like the milkshake machine you keep in storage.”
Keith couldn’t contain his snort, trying to stifle it behind his fist. “Pidge tell you that?”
Regris let out a faint, amused sounding hiss. “She did.”
Without another word, Regris continued leading Keith along by his wrist, and Keith tried not to blush. Regris had already misinterpreted going red as a sign of human illness before, and Keith didn’t want to cause a scene in the middle of the supermarket if Regris started fussing over him. Instead, he ducked his head to look back at the list. Mercifully, it seemed as though they only had one or two more items on the list to pick up. And he could see the entrance to the market if he stood on his toes and peered over the shelves. Soon, they’d be back on base and they’d be able to rest for a bit.
And then he heard the tell tale whirring of a space moped, and he remembered whose jurisdiction they were in.
Some cosmic entity must have had it out for him.
When Varkon first yelled—something about space pirates—Regris paused, looking over his shoulder and fiddled with his glasses again, trying to see Varkon more clearly. “Who in the Void…?”
The basket of groceries that Keith had been carrying was immediately dropped and forgotten on the floor of the market as he grabbed Regris by the hand and took off, dragging his friend along behind him.  He didn’t check to see if Varkon was giving chase—it didn’t matter. They could not get arrested by a mall cop. Even if it was unlikely the Empire would kill them, then Kolivan certainly would.
“Keith!” Regris hissed. “Who is this guy?”
“Let’s just say he doesn’t like me!” Keith said, shouting over the hustle and bustle of the mall. It was busier than it had been when they had first entered the market. “He chased me after I picked a fight with a knife salesman!”
Regris didn’t say anything in response, giving Keith the chance to try and observe their surroundings. Some kind of exit would have been nice at a time like this.  Keith cursed when he couldn’t see one. Where was a map when they actually needed one? They could worry about finding Kolivan later—at least Kolivan wasn’t going to get chased by mall security. Keith turned his head, prepared to tell Regris they had to move, but what left his mouth instead was a surprised yelp. Regris scooped him up and slung him over his shoulder like a sack of potatoes.
“Regris!” Keith said, and his face went bright red.
“You’re small, and we gotta go!” Regris said—and looking behind them, Keith could see that Varkon was gaining on them. “Just keep looking for the exit!”
To his credit, even though he was moving as quickly as possible, Regris did at least try to be polite. Whenever he accidentally knocked someone over in his haste, he would shout sorry! over his shoulder. Keith tried to focus on looking for an exit, trying to remember where they had started their little escapade earlier in the day, before Kolivan had sent them off with the list. He recognized a couple of shops, though… they were getting close!
“Take the next left!” Keith shouted. “The exit should be up down there somewhere!”
Regris did as he said, nearly sliding as he took the turn, using his tail to catch himself before he fell over. “This ass is really persistent!” he huffed as he continued running.
Keith was about to respond, but then, time seemed to slow down to a near stop as they darted past a new store. Kolivan was just exiting the shop, with a couple of bags in hand… he only saw Kolivan’s expression for half a tick, but that was all he needed to see shock set in on Kolivan’s features as they ran past, followed by a mall cop.
It looked like Kolivan was about to faint on the spot.
Only once they were outside of Varkon’s jurisdiction—or whatever passed for it—did Regris skid to a halt and carefully set Keith down on the floor again.
“This is the second time I’ve caught you in my jurisdiction,” Varkon shouted.
“Technically, we’re not in your jurisdiction anymore,” Regris said.
Regris seemed ready to fight, but he caught his tongue almost immediately. Keith noticed how his tail tip was twitching back and forth nervously against the floor. Then, Keith noticed Kolivan approaching—he appeared as impassive as ever at first glance. Judging by the set of his jaw, though, he was less than enthused about witnessing their little escapade.
“Aaand… we’re dead,” Regris muttered under his breath.
Keith lightly nudged him in the ribs and shushed him before Kolivan could hear him. Kolivan walked right past Varkon without receiving any complaints from the mall cop. As he passed the two younger blades, though, he reached out and grabbed Regris roughly by the back of his shirt, dragging him along even as Regris complained. Kolivan’s impassive mask had been replaced by a stern glare as he turned his gaze on Keith. Hanging his head in embarrassment, Keith followed without another word.
“I leave you two alone for a tick and you almost get arrested!” Kolivan hissed as they entered the shuttle bay and made for their vehicle. “Just—get inside. And stay there. I have one more stop to make and then I’ll be back.”
Kolivan left them without another word, after setting down the bags he had already collected.
“… so, that cop doesn’t like you because you picked a fight with a knife salesman?” Regris asked, tilting his head.
Keith didn’t deign to respond, leveling him with an unamused look.
Regris’s tail tip twitched back and forth in interest as he grinned. “Did you win?”
With a heavy sigh, Keith hung his head, burying his face in his hands.
