Witchers aren’t omens, not good ones or bad ones.” In a sudden, streamlined movement, she pulls out her knife and splits the cloth beneath the troublesome knot, slicing it cleanly free before thrusting the blade back in its sheath. “We just are. So. I’m Bart.”

“Oh, that’s deep. That is excellent.” Dirk shifts to pull a scrap of parchment and quill from his satchel, hastily scribbling what he remembers of her phrasing. The ink shines as it dries, and he studies the words, reading them over.

“My name wasn’t always Dirk, you know,” he says, and lets the wind rustle the words away. She’ll hear him anyway, enhanced senses and all that. “I was once called —” He falters, swallows, and pulls the blanket tighter around his shoulders. “I once had the name Svlad Cjelli.”

In the fire-dance of shadow and light, the furrow of Bart’s brow deepens to encompass her whole forehead. “Oh yeah? What happened to it?”

“It was taken from me,” Dirk says, tucking the parchment back into his satchel. “Same as you.”

I don't super remember what the director's cut thing this is in response to said to do, but basically, this bit is hinting at some background worldbuilding where in this crossover verse, Blackwing is still out there trying to understand and control gifted people, among other horrors. They altered Bart's powers trying to create their own witcher who would serve their ends, but ofc that did not go well for them. And Dirk has a similar backstory to dghda canon, such as it is, getting taken and held and then getting out; in this witcher verse he then spends his time wandering, slowly pulled along by the strings of fate. Because Blackwing's witcher program was kept separate, they don't know each other or recognize that they're haunted by the same ghostly cage :P

exhausted initial thoughts about the XG drop that one (1) mutual knows about: it's so WEIRD I love it. good for them. good for them.

every member got a spotlight which I really appreciated, though XG's always really good about that - hinata, juria, and harvey really stood out to me on first watch as being very well suited to both their styling and parts in the arrangement. it is more of a vocal track, and for that, I esp liked the way they brought in more maya in the chorus, though I missed jurin's voice after her verse a little bit (biased tho). and again even though I didn't see as much of chisa or cocona the parts they did have were very much Theirs which I loved! chisa in the office! cocona singing the chorus! yum tasty.

but yeah man - harvey's small rap verse felt perfect, the chorus is already stuck in my head, everyone was weirdcore and looked SO GOOD, the choreo was bizarre and looked SO GOOD, cocona's changing face and skull tattoos were so good, the alien focus was so good - think my full favorite thing about it was hinata. music video story wise she felt like the main character and I love that for her. I know she wanted to try weirder hair and by god, she's wearing the hell out of it, as well as the rest of the fit. plus the facial expressions when we got a shot of choreo, she wasn't the only one doing it, but it was great to get that moment of focus on her bc I always want more hinata screentime lol.

I'm going back to sleep now. as a bite-sized vocal b-side pre-release? yall. 10/10.
