To mark the Bears’ 100th season, we’re counting down the 100 greatest players in franchise history. Coming in at No. 20 is running back and defensive back Red Grange. When the NFL needed its first big star, the Bears wasted no time in acquiring the “Galloping Ghost” in 1925 and signing him to a $100,000 contract. He made his Bears debut 4 days after his final game at Illinois, and the Bears then embarked on a 19-game barnstorming tour that helped solidify the Bears — and Grange’s stardom. A Hall of Famer, two-time All-Pro and member of the 1920s All-Decade team, Grange played 83 games over 7 seasons with the Bears from 1925 and 1929-1934.
