#red cap mushroom

We're doing a garden theme for our office group costume this year and after a while trying to figure out what I wanted to do I decided to be a red cap mushroom. I had made a red beret for the closing ceremonies so I'm just gonna make it bigger and then add gills on the bottom. Simple but effective! I'll be cute!

FOTD #133 : cinnamon cap! (hypholoma lateritium)

the cinnamon cap (also brick cap, chestnut mushroom, brick top, red woodlover or kuritake) is a mushroom-producing fungus in the family strophariaceae. it has been discovered in europe, the US & japan, but may even be more widespread :-)

the big question : can i bite it?? well, that depends !! in the US & japan, it is considered edible & choice. however, in europe is considered inedible - some even claiming it to be poisonous.

h. lateritium description :

"the cap is 3.5–10 cm in diameter, usually with a brick-red colouration in the centre and a paler margin. it is smooth, sometimes with red-brown flecks in the middle & sometimes with flaky veil remnants, which can easily be washed off in the rain, on the outside. the gills are crowded, starting yellowish and becoming greyish with age. the stipe is light yellow and darker below."

Everyone look at all my creatures

We have Boggle (top left), Hoggle (upside down) Whimple (squid), senshi (bottom left), TBH (bottom right) and my dear daughter in the middle who’s name I have not decided. It might be Winnifred

All of these were created by the same super awesome guy and omg have I got a story for you.

Ok so.

Last week at the dickens fair, where Creature Guy (his name is Amin but idk if we are on a first name basis so I shall call him Creature Guy) has a booth, I purchased Senshi, my fourth creature of his.

(Hoggle and boggle were bought last dickens fair and wimple was a Free Squid that was tossed to the crowd during his bands first ever concert.) (I forgot to mention. He has a band it’s really good it’s called Nekron 99. It like a grungy bog creature rock I love it) (anyway)

While buying Senshi I told him that I loved his band and was the proud owner of a Free Squid. He was very happy to be seen by a fan (70-80 monthly listeners on Spotify so I assume this doesn’t happen often) I said farewell and that I would be returning the following week.

(I was very proud of this. I had known he would be there and had rehearsed what I would say to this man who I think is very cool)

Today. One week later. My birthday. I returned to the dickens fair with the intention of (among other things) obtaining another creature.

I saw TBH and fell in love with them. When I went to purchase them however I was stopped by Creature Guy. He said, “are you who I think you are?” And indeed I was.

Not only was I remembered, I was recognized! Incredibly exciting. He told me that in addition to my purchase of TBH he would give me (!) for free (!!) a one of a kind creature (!!!)

Enter Winnifred. A combination of two different types of creature and the only one of her kind.

He said that he had been saving her for “someone who cared”

Guys I could have started crying right then and there.

Anyway. Im very happy. I have a lot of creatures now and I can’t wait for this guy to release more music

the hammer design is vry lazy but im gonna put this down for a while and work on something else.

her name is amanita, so ofc she gets the basket. i feel like the mushroom cap is cute? but i feel like the blithe cap that matches her namesake doesn't match very well with her colors. i gave her the playful overalls, it kinda looks like an apron layered like this + that set matches her outfit nicely

Here’s a little doodle thing. A bunch of mushroom people, because my youngest thinks mushroom people are cool. Especially the ones with the red caps. A collection of anthropomorphic cartoon mushrooms.

FOTD #087 : saffron milk cap! (lactarius deliciosus)

the saffron milk cap (also red pine mushroom) is an agaric milk-cap in the family russulaceae. it occurs in portugal, bulgaria, spain, greece, italy cyprus, france, chile, australia, aotearoa, south africa & poland, but may possibly be more widespread. it often grows in association with pine trees :-)

the big question : can i bite it?? yeah !! it's edible. however - unlike the scientific name suggests - it is not very "deliciosus". it is instead quite mild or even bitter.

l. deliciosus description :

"lactarius deliciosus has a carrot-orange cap that is convex to vase shaped, inrolled when young, 4 to 14 centimetres (1+1⁄2 to 5+1⁄2 inches) across, often with darker orange lines in the form of concentric circles. the cap is sticky & viscid when wet, but is often dry. it has crowded decurrent gills & a squat orange stipe that is often hollow, 3 to 8 cm (1 to 3 in) long & 1 to 2 cm (1⁄2 to 1 in) thick. the flesh stains a deep green colour when handled. when fresh, it exudes an orange-red latex that does not change colour."

painted my nails for the first time in a while last night - i'll probably add a second coat tonight - may try and use it as a base for a fancy one that doesn't have a load of pigment on a couple nails just to be, well, fancy lol. don't know if the paint's gonna stick around long after the holidays. i keep forgetting i don't work in food service so i'm allowed to have bracelets and hair ties on my wrists and paint on my nails again, and also i'm not entirely sure whether i even actually like having them be visible lol.
