RECORD RECOVERY - JOURNAL ENTRY 07

An Immortal Laid to Rest - Draft 2, Chpt 7
He could feel something emanating from the statue—he felt this before at the excavation site. Again, it tugged at his consciousness. It demanded his attention, but once again he couldn’t see anything beside the room around him. So instead he asked a simple question: “Just who are you… Clotho?” A loud crack came from the statue and a large crease had formed across her face. Then another split fractured the marble. Then another. Slowly, the statue cracked apart as a low rumble reverberated throughout the chapel. Then she spoke. TO YOU WHO HAVE ENTERED THE DOMAIN OF THE MOIRAI… Vinnie fell back as the statue stepped stiffly off her pedestal. The textured marble fell away from her arms and legs, revealing warm, bronzed flesh beneath it. I AM CLOTHO, THE SPINNER OF FATE.

RECORD RECOVERY JOURNAL ENTRY 05
An Immortal Laid to Rest - Draft 2, Chpt 5
“Could I come with you?” Vinnie repeated. “Like I said, I don’t really have any plans of what to do now, but I can’t stay here either. So could I?” It was the perfect escape. Neither Orias nor Briar seemed to recognize who he was, so he could slip away into obscurity and the Regis Vicaria would disappear from the public once more. “Well, I…” Orias scratched his cheek. He didn’t seem sure as how to answer. “I can pull my own weight, if that’s what you’re worried about,” Vinnie said. “I just need a place to stay so I can figure out what to do next, but I promise I won’t be a burden.” He seemed to mull it over, then shrugged and said, “Sure, why not? It’s been a long time since we’ve had any visitors.” “Really?” his eyes lit up. “Oh, thank you!!” Orias got up from his seat. “Why don’t you come help me pack? With Briar asleep, I’d appreciate the extra help.” Vinnie firmly nodded and got up to follow Orias inside. But just before he entered, he took one more glance towards the sinkhole. “Goodbye,” he said to himself. “Goodbye and good riddance.”

RECORD RECOVERY JOURNAL ENTRY 02

An Immortal Laid to Rest - Draft 2, Chpt 2
The air felt still as they descended deeper into the pit, the only sound present was the creaking of the wooden ramp. Before long, they were standing at the foot of great structure. The light he had saw was coming from a crack with in the building’s large wooden doors. They had been opened. He approached the doors cautiously, and ever so gently pushed them open farther. Bright light spilled out and into their vision before dimming and revealing the inside. A field of flowers laid before him. They were embedded in the marble flooring, yet they blossomed in vibrant hues as if it were the most fertile dirt. Emerald green vines grew up the sides of the wall, wrapping themselves around pillars and buttresses. In front of him was a grand staircase that sloped up to another floor and to the sides he saw more hallways leading to other locations deeper within. A chandelier hung above them, illuminating the room with its crystal light. “Amazing…” Briar spoke. “It’s an entirely different ecosystem…! How could any of this survive down here?” Orias didn’t respond, himself enamored by the glowing aura. There was no signs of wear and decay—it was as if he stepped through a portal and into a Deity’s domain. They stepped through the threshold and onto the flower-coated marble. Only then did he notice the few flowers that looked to have been stepped on, their stems crooked and the buds missing a few petals. “We’re not alone,” Orias stated. “Someone else came in before us.”

An Immortal Laid to Rest - Draft 2, Chpt 1
This is it. Past this gate is my freedom. No one has yet to recognize me here… Good. No one will notice me leave. The nearest outpost is roughly five miles away— I should be able to find a caravan that’ll take me outside of the Trigala. I’ll finally be able to say goodbye to this accursed city. Goodbye and good riddance. He stepped through the city gates, the sandy wind hitting him in warm bursts as he did. Around him, people went about their day oblivious to him. In this very moment, he did not exist, and he was thankful. It was his second step when he heard confusion from the crowd. Turning around, he could see someone pushing through the crowd—a man with horns and dark hair dressed in city guard attire. And he was calling out his name. “Vincent!! Vincent stop!!” His third, fourth, and fifth steps were used to get a running start. The man was gaining distance on him. By the sixth, seventh, and eighth steps, he was sprinting. The man continued to call out to him, but he didn’t bother sparing him a glance. He took a ninth step. Then a tenth, but that was as far as he could go. The man had caught him by the arm.

“Well, well, well, look what I found here.” He looked up at the unknown voice. Perched atop one of the Deity statues was a young man with pearly white hair and a pair of broken horns. Across his face was a long line of stitches, making his otherwise boyish face fierce and broken. He wore a dark suit ill-suited for the desert environment, but it didn’t look like it remotely bothered him. “Funny to run into you here,” the man said with a grin on his face. “It’s been awhile, Orias.” “Who are you?” Orias asked. He didn’t recognize him, but something felt familiar. “I’m hurt, Orias! You wouldn’t forget your brother-in-arms, would you?” The man hopped down from his seat and landed gracefully on the ground below. “It’s me, Niv! I’ll admit I had some work done over the years, but I wouldn’t greet you in a form you didn’t recognize.” He was shorter and younger that what Orias remembered, closer to Vincent’s physical age. But his mannerisms were the same—that of a cocky man carrying too many secrets.

Three more statues were evenly spaces along the shoreline. They led to someplace just farther down. Following them led Orias and Vincent to the furthest point of the cape, where a sandbar protruded far into the water. And sitting proudly in its throne of rocks was a massive synagogue. A courtyard stood before it with an Admin’s Moon embedded into the flat rock, and he saw another set of Patron statues surrounding it. Above the building’s entrance was a beautiful stained-glass window adorned by a golden crescent glistening in the sun, soaking up eternity. It was identical to the structure near Trin.

Then the earth shook once more and the large wooden doors began to close. He saw the terrified look on Vincent’s face, saw him as he frantically tried to claw at the wall keeping him from getting out. Orias tried to help him, his shade forming along the ground as spikes, but they burned up upon contacting the wall. The doors continued to close, unbothered by either party’s attempt at stopping them. And then they were shut once more.

An Immortal Laid to Rest - Draft 2, Chpt 4
The crystal lights began to flicker— no that’s not right. They were being shrouded by a black mist hovering in the air. And it was getting closer. A black miasma formed on the floor, swirling slowly as it grew bigger and bigger. A figure rose up from the inky abyss. At first, it swayed like it was unable to handle its own weight, but soon its shape solidify into… something. Something humanoid. The figure was still covered in the inky black shadows from where it emerged, and he saw a single horn on its head where there should have been two. It opened its strange diamond shaped eyes, surveying the room, then surveying them, before they finally land on… Vincent. The creature lunged for Vincent, but Orias managed to pull him away just in time for it to crash into the statues’ remains. It lunged at them again, but this was time was met by the blade of Reese’s sword. “GO!! Get out of here!!” Reese commanded. With a flourish, he repelled the creature off from him. In that briefest moment, the Mezuro looked back at him and he could the fire in his eyes. “Protect Vincent with your life, do you understand me?!” He nodded, then grabbed Vincent’s hand and pulled him towards the chapel’s doors. “Wait, I can’t—” Vincent tried to wriggle out of his grip. “We can’t leave him!” “We have to go…!” “Wait— Reese—” He was kicking and screaming to be let go. “REESE!!”
