Y'all, do you understand how surreal it is to be in my late thirties and be talking about new episodes of Dragon Ball and Ranma 1/2 on here?
Nostalgia cycle really is coming for my childhood with a wheelbarrow and a shovel, isn't it?

The Disney Afternoon’s’ programming block launched 34 years ago, September 10, 1990.
The block will turn 35 years in 2025, wishful thinking for a crossover series with all characters like Jellystone! from MAX getting ordered.
The 2010s and 2020s saw new interations of some shows of The Disney Afternoon block with DuckTales as reboot for Disney XD , Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers as a live action/cgi hybrid film for Disney+.

youtube
New interations of The Disney Afternoon shows are still being made with Darkwing Duck having a reboot in the works since 2020 and a TaleSpin reboot very early in development since 2023 both projects for Disney+ are being helm by Disney Television Animation, Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg and Point Grey Pictures. (Nickelodeon Animation Studios "Tales Of The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles") In October 2023, it was announced that Gargoyles was getting a live action reboot handled by Atomic Monster and Blumhouse Television, Gary Dauberman (Warner Bros “Anabelle” franchise), acts as showrunner with James Wan and Michael Clear (Universal Pictures “M3GAN”) as Executive Producers alongside Jason Blum (Universal Pictures "Five Nights At Freddy's").

As of right now there's two major Disney Afternoon IPs still left to be rebooted:
-Adventures Of The Gummi Bears
-Goof Troop
Who's next? i guess the future knows however attempts by current Disney Television Animation artists where made:
"Goof Troop" by Becky Dreistadt and Frank Dreistad  (“Big City Greens”, “Big City Greens The Movie: Spacecation”, “Star Vs. The Forces Of Evil”, Cartoon Network Studios “Steven Universe The Movie”, “Steven Universe Future”)
Tumblr media
"Adventures of The Gummi Bears" by Pedro Eboli and Mark Satterthwaite (Netflix “Cupcake and Dino: General Services”, Cartoon Network LATAM “Oswaldo”, Nickelodeon “Ollie’s Pack”, Discovery Kids LATAM “Bada Bean”, Amazon Prime Video "Gary and His Demons")

so did anyone else see that amazon ordered the voltron live action remake or was that just me. cause i have THOUGHTS about that.
posted to voltronofficial insta:
Tumblr media
i think that live action reproductions of animation remove from the experience, since the effects likely won’t be marvel quality & therefore will look cheesy. animation just works so much better for the complicated voltron world imo. lmk yalls thoughts 😭💔

It's my personal belief that new voltron live action should be Office type documentary style comedy about paladins doing fuck all and day being saved by weird hijinks. Only way to save this timeline/j

Okay we got more info for the Foster's preschool spinoff!
New name- it's "Foster's Funtime for Imaginary Friends" rather than the originally announced "Foster's Imaginary Nursery". I like the new name better. It's more, well...fun.
Bloo's the "older" imaginary friend attempting to give out "guidance" to the others but keeps getting things wrong. Which is exactly the kind of role Bloo would play in a show like this.
Adding to that, Craig McCracken confirmed the more cynical humor of the original won't be here, which is nice not only because it's a preschool show anyway so that was a given, but the original could go into overkill sometimes with it ("I Only Have Surprise for You", "Imposter's Home", looking at you).
So HOPEFULLY we get S1-era Bloo back instead of grating S3-and-onward-era Bloo.
Bloo and Madame Foster are the only original characters confirmed to return. Makes sense with Madame Foster as the namesake and Bloo as the "mascot" character. Originally Craig said the others would be there in minor roles with Mac being at school (meaning less likely to show up), but for now it looks like we're only getting the two. I'm kind of surprised they don't have Eduardo in there since Craig even said in an interview that he was really popular with younger kids. So for now it seems like the other main imaginary friends, Frankie, or Herriman showing up in the future could be a "maybe", Mac a "probably not", and if this takes place while Mac is at school this would also mean we're not gonna see Goo either (pretty sure Terrence is already a definite "no", as is Duchess).
I want to know more about the new main characters! Their names! Their personalities! Hopefully that stuff comes out soon.
Also I was really nervous about the CGI since I hate when 2D shows go fully CGI (look at Rugrats 2021) BUUUT the stylized look of this is really nice. Can't wait to see it animated.
Once again, just remember- doing a preschool reboot was Craig's idea and most of the decisions his ideas. He even said he wants it to be close in tone to Bluey (also note that he said the original was partially influenced by 70s-era Sesame Street). So we're not getting Foster's Cocomelon or Dora.
I guess now all we have to do is wait for a premiere date and hope it gets more than one season.

“we’re taking out this problematic aspect because showing characters doing things the audience might not like could be uncomfy” “we’re taking out unnecessary side plots & making everything more mission centric” “these characters were pretty flawed in the original incarnation of this work so we decided to make them more palatable & the story more straightforward”

in the upcoming live action mufasa prequel they are asserting that mufasa was not born into the royal family but a humble nobody that was adopted into it, while scar was originally the heir to the throne by blood, which i thought was a funny way for them to slice it so they could both have their underdog protagonist & their rightful king character in the same bundle, but people in the comments are legitimately mad about it for bloodline reasons as though they're lion nobles

So I've been playing Sherlock the Awakened. I don't remember the tags for frogware sherlock so. Anyway. Forgot how much I loved this game, I'm halfway though.
I loved Chapter One for a lot of reasons, one being how you could get cases wrong or never know the Actual truth of the cases, because Sherlock is young and he can't Truly Know either. Or how the final case is how his mom died, and there is no real external closure because he can't ever Really know for sure, so the conclusion you ultimately draw is more about how Sherlock gives himself closure, which angle he gives it to himself, since there is no for sure definitive end. How his mom had mental health issues (and one of the horrors in Chapter One being the notes from her doctor about how she was treated which very well could've made her Worse, suffer More, but when i looked it up the treatments in 1800s were... pretty much what her doctor was doing, it was a kind of tragedy that was realistic for it's time and setting, and within Sherlock's life an unavoidable tragedy - his mom gets 'help' but the help possible is not much help at all and might even do damage, but it was the option available, and he lost his mom, and children can never do anything about things like that, beyond their control). And how the game extends the mental health theme, Sherlock has ptsd, Jon is an imaginary friend (he calls him a tulpa in The Awakened), a coping mechanism for Sherlock to comfort himself and give himself strength both as a child and now facing that lack-of-closure to tragedy and trying to provide it to himself. (A side note, I've been playing Crimes and Punishment and appreciate, again, that Sherlock can Get It Wrong in deductions... something The Awakened lacks, but I get why).
And then The Awakened (at least the newer version using the new young model of Sherlock from Chapter One), it takes bits of those themes of mental health, tragedy and trauma, coping. The opening reminds us of THIS Sherlock, who can insist there's an assassin plot against him when really it's just a book salesman with a crush on a florist, and a real person John Watson (a companion who is not imaginary, who's outside of Sherlock) who is reminding Sherlock his grip on reality isn't always great and he can work himself up into thinking there's things happening which aren't really there (in Chapter One, Jon both helped Sherlock internally remind himself of that and delude himself at other times). Sherlock has progressed and healed in some ways since Chapter One - he can recognize he has a tendency to delude himself sometimes, without Jon to help. He's a bit more comfortable making friends and relying on them (he's become open enough to not just befriend John Watson but actually trust him as a partner to rely on, which he was struggling to do except with imaginary-part-of-himself Jon in Chapter One), he's more open with compassion for others (he had that trait in Chapter One but he's quicker to offer it and realize when people are seeing him as cold/not understanding he means well). He has realized he may have some tendencies he'll have to live with (which hey I have ptsd, I appreciate a lead character also having it and knowing there's certain coping skills/things they do which are effected by those experiences and linger). He IS more self aware, self assured, has built some healthy safe-enough relationships with other people, is better at getting his point across and showing his care for people. (Great early moments of that is telling off the Lord Stenwick about how shit he is treating Kimiha, how much he Cares about solving the missing people case for the sake of the missing people's lives and their families).
I love how well this Sherlock, this particular version, works in such a story with unknown monsters (which Sherlock at first assumes must be himself deluding himself, because he has an awareness he does that and has before), in a story with people imprisoned for some traits others perceive negatively (in the asylum he relates to many of the patients locked up, he is one of them locked up for a time, he doesn't see Gerda and Heidi as particularly odd and he's been her with Jon in a sense already in his life, he relates to the patients in how awful the conditions are and the treatment and in caring enough to want such treatment stopped, in wanting to stop Gygax, in being horrified by the treatment of the human trafficked victims and that only resolving him more to want to stop the huge operation of suffering). Both the bits of unreality, and the very human monsters of the story (the perpetrators of the kidnapping, killings, trafficking), work very well with this Sherlock. (And the racism and dehumanizing being the key evil, in a story using these particular traits, is a solid choice I think in using these effectively and meaningfully).

“The Disney Afternoon: The Making of a Television Renaissance” Gets Delayed Till 2025 As Part Of The Disney Afternoon 35th Anniversary
Sad news Disney Afternoon fans, “The Disney Afternoon: The Making of a Television Renaissance” got delayed once again this time slated for a Fall 2025 release date according to Jake S. Friedman.
Likely the reason for this delay is to coincide with The Disney Afternoon 35th anniversary on 2025 and Disney TVA's 100th show ("StuGo" & "Robogobo") already airing on that time.
Tumblr media
The Disney Afternoon: The Making of a Television Renaissance” will include sections dedicated to DuckTales (2017) and Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers (2022) as well a small section named “THE NEWEST WAVE: Or Rewrite History" likely dedicated to Disney TVA's current & future slate as part of the studio's 40th anniversary and it's 100th show ("StuGo")

Monster High Reboot Movie Antagonist Appreciation Post ❤️
I’m not a big fan of either reboot (for different reasons I will not get into) but the movie antagonists always stood out as strong and interesting to me. This is my opinion; feel free to disagree.
Moanica D’Kay🪱 stands out in her movies; her evil intentions and antagonistic demeanor really make her a memorable threat, especially in contrast to the more kiddy world of G2. She commands an army of zombie boys (Zomboys) and is strong leader. Her main goal is to terrorize mankind as vengeance for humans forcing monsters to live in hiding. Moanica has been hurt so much in the past that she wants others to feel the pain she has. She doesn’t want peace; she wants havoc and destruction. Because of this, Moanica doesn’t understand why Draculaura would rather educate and befriend the humans rather than harm them. She is overall pretty f*cked up, even compared to G1 villains, and that’s what makes her so interesting.
Some other interesting facts about Moanica is that her favorite food is vermicelli pasta; she finds it “a scream that the name means “little worms”. She is from South America, more specifically Peru 🇵🇪. Moanica D’Kay is the last doll designed Garrett Sanders, Monster High’s creator.
Mr. Komos 👔 (legal name Eddy Hyde Jr.) is a teacher who serves as the twist antagonist of the first G3 live action movie. He seeks revenge against the monsters of Monster High for exiling, discriminated against, and expelling his father, Eddy Hyde, for being half human. This discrimination by the school led to his father being killed. Eddy teaches anti human sentiment in his class, despite his heritage (True Monster Heart). The movie ends with him being turned to stone by Clawdeen. What interests me about Komos is that the movie tries to sell us on him being a big bad villain. I could never really see his motivations as evil? He is a pretty regular guy. Taking his anger on our main characters was the most cruel thing he did; besides that, he seems more justified than not? If an institution killed my father and spread lies about people like him, I would be pissed too. The fact that Komos wasn't redeemed, even though it would have been so simple as an exchange of apologies, confuses me. He could have been a great resource in making sure half humans feel welcome at Monster High. It would have been such a more satisfying conclusion than literally killing him??
Eddy/Mr. Komos is a intriguing character who could have been so much better if given better writing :(
Toralei Stripe😼 is a foil for Clawdeen and the second G3 movie's secondary antagonist (The main antagonists/villains of the movie, the witches, sucked). She is loyal to monster kind, has a grudge against humans and half humans like Clawdeen, and is Clawdeen's election rival. She is pretty toned down and likable here compared to her (in my opinion more annoying) G3 animated counterpart. Toralei is wrong for her prejudice of Clawdeen yet very sympathetic in her motivations to keep monsters/students safe from human witches. She seems realistic as a character and has a natural charisma to her. A pleasant surprise from a not so good movie.
The writers sometimes miss the mark with her (mischaracterize her very valid concerns about witchcraft as bigoted) but I hope that she continues to be present in the inevitable Monster High movies to come.

instead of supporting disney's latest cash grab can i suggest watching The 7D instead? it's a spinoff series that came out 9 years ago that disney cancelled prematurely during season 2. it's hilarious and well animated and some of the writers worked on Animaniacs so that's how you KNOW its good.

I could never forget someone criticizing that wretched live action because aang’s actor is gonna obviously get older and that the original show only takes place in under a year. and the root of their criticism was that “kataang is gonna look less weird” 😭
when aang very obviously matures faster (both physically and emotionally) than the average 12 year old boy between seasons 1 and 3. (like you’re gonna tell me season 1 aang on kyoshi island and finale aang look the same to you??)
because, newsflash, aang is NOT a real human boy.
he exists in a fantasy world where people bend the elements.
and expecting a live action to realistically portray a fantasy cartoon child god correctly was your first and biggest mistake.
