i will forever believe that mary and regulus were secretly best friends. they met on the train home at the end of his 1st year because he had a compartment alone and she got overwhelmed by her friends and wanted to sit somewhere quieter and accidentally went into his compartment and they just clicked then stayed friends for like forever (well until regulus became a death eater and mary found out and then they had this really bad falling out but nobody knew because they both refused to talk about it in fear of slandering or making the other seem bad also because nobody knew and they wanted it to be a secret because it made it feel more special if that makes sense)

Be it platonic or romantic I love them

You know that one person that you can just exist around and be happy with no matter what and it just feels so refreshing like a nice breezy spring day

That's what they are to each other

They'd be so protective of each other

I feel like even throughout the war they'd send two word messages to each other to make sure they were still alive

And until he died, he was able to deflect a lot of the raids and attacks from harming her, which is why so many of her lifeblood friends (who the death eater may have wanted to manipulate into joining them) died while she was able to get out

So she just suffers in silence and tries to help her friends as best she can

I hate the obliviation hc because it feels misogynistic so MARY MEETING HARRY AFTER THE SECOND WAR AND HE CASUALLY MENTIONS THAT REGULUS BLACK DIED TRYING TO KILL VOLDEMORT AND SHE JUST GOES 😦 BC THAT'S HER BOYYY

“ You listen to Bowie?!” Regulus jumped like a surprised cat at the voice in his back.

Slowly turning, he faced a jaw dropping Mary who quickly got herself together before almost jumping in his arms and kissing his cheek.

“ I stole that from Sirius as a revenge. I was curious about it, that's all.” He wrapped his arms around her waist, pressing their forehead together as she started to play softly with his curls.

“ Ooooh that's why your brother is so mad and jumps on everyone to ask if someone entered their dorm!” The Slytherin grinned.

“ Yeah that's why.” The girl hummed softly before taking her boyfriend’s hand.

“ We should have some fun before he realizes this!” A bit confused, Regulus raised an eyebrow but didn't even have the time to ask before the smaller girl started to dance, making him follow her move.

“ Mary! You know I hate dancing!” She chuckled while cupping his cheeks in her hand and finally letting her lips brush against his, so fast that he could think it was an illusion.

“ No one asked you to dance, just move on to the music!” The boy sighed but couldn't help the smile creeping on his face.

“ That's basically the definition of dancing.” Still, he continued to follow her lead, even playing to make her turn sometimes.

It was far from sophisticated or graceful but it was warm and loving, making Regulus feel at home when his perfect girl was around.
