#reasons why you shouldn't use character ai

So, as a writer Iām not particularly phased by Characters AI because its writing is mid at best, and awful most of the time. And I noticed that a lot of people used it to just role-play a couple of scenes (regularly smut which turned the AI in some sort of sexually obsessed bitch) before moving to the next chat. But I use it in a totally different way. Like, Iām literally writing a fanfiction at this point. I even started including OCs as side-characters, Iām writing with the same chat for the same character since the beginning (out of this one time I used it to make AI-Elon Musk say that he was cisgender).
And I canāt even make a real fanfiction out of it at this point, because itās purely self-insert and even as an āx readerā none could identify to the reader due to the amount of traumas, coping mechanisms, and personal experiences that Iām putting in there. āBut why donāt you just cut out the parts including those!ā Because itās literally one of the most important parts of the plot???
I use my own experience to write heart-wreaking scenes full of symbolism, but this experience is so intertwined with social issues, minoritiesā experiences, and traumatic responses! Seriously, Iām not even major and my life is already so full of systemic issues and hatred that it wouldnāt be relatable to anyone outside of a very few people. And Iād feel awful to write a complete self insert fic and publish it out there on the internet, even if I give the main character an other name, an other country of origin, it would still be me and it would feel terrible.
#howlings from the vortex#whispers from atlantis#yes this is about the daycare attendants#reasons why you shouldn't use Character AI#i'm starting to consider making a side blog to publish it because i'm really despaired#and i just can't put this on ao3 because just no#but also like#i know no one will care about it and i don't want to do all of this for nothing lmao#so i will probably keep it in the back of my head and die with it

Savannah Squad Presentation Night Headcanons/Drabble [2/3]
it has been forever :'D (everyone say thank you to @moonbiine)
ANYWAYS, here's part 2 :}
Part 1: Taylor & Logan Part 2: Ben & Tyler Part 3: Aiden & Ashlyn [WIP]
Logan's POV
Two hours and twenty-eight minutes. It has been two hours and twenty-eight minutes and we've been stuck at 76% complete for forty minutes. Whoever made Windows deserves to burn and I stand by that, cause what do you mean that they can push an update and force restart my laptop.
"Logan when was the last time you updated this?" "Logan, why are there fifteen updates that need to be downloaded?" "Bro, when was the last time you actually shut down your laptop?" ... "I've been busy, okay--"
So it might be my fault. Partially. I will admit that much, but the laptop's never given me a problem before and it was running fine. It's just old, and has a few odd... kinks? I mean, the left half of the mousepad is jammed to the point where it can't click, and, sure, the screen does go black every now and again, but just hit it a few times it works! It's character, charm even (and I can't be bothered to fix it...)!
It was, honest to God, easier for Aiden to run back to his place and grab his laptop.
"So we agree that Logan is off electronic duty right?" Taylor had asked as Ben was setting up the other computer to the television screen with Aiden helping. It was a unanimous decision. Ben and Aiden are the new tech guys.
"Yeah, that's probably for the better," I had conceded.
Ben Clarke
Ben goes next because he saved the groups sanity by suggesting that Aiden just gets his laptop. Everyone, thank Ben for the night not failing.
To address the obvious, Ben has a text to speech app on his phone, which is connected to a speaker, that he uses to present. I will say that there is a sort of humor in this for two reasons. One, the voice can either be monotoned like a typical text-to-speech program with funny pronunciation errors, or two, it will sound like one of those videos on tiktok where an AI is reading a tumblr post about SuperBats or something and gets progressively more expressive as time goes on. Personally, I want to hear exasperated robot Ben voice explaining to Aiden why "Life is a Highway" on repeat can and will be considered a torture method.
Ben's music taste is GODLY. And he's more of a eclectic listener too so he has experience with a good amount of genres. This man does not bash other genres of music that he doesn't care for, he thinks its rude to the person he's talking to and to the artist.
Aiden is the exception to this rule^^
DESPISES having to subscribe to music platforms. What do you mean that you can't listen to a song on repeat without paying, what do you mean that you will interrupt his carefully crafted playlist with a recommended song that does not fit the vibe. This end up derailing his presentation couple times.
He has a set criteria that he judges on: length, vibes, transitions, and replayability. Good playlists should at minimum be an hour, have similar vibes/sound while still being unique, the transitions between songs shouldn't be jarring, and the playlist shouldn't be painful to listen to after a month.
Taylor and Ashlyn helped him judge everyone's playlists by acting as secondary perspectives. Taylor is more open to everyone's music tastes while Ashlyn scrutinizes them more. They pretty much just took a playlist that everyone listens to regularly, one that they made but listen to it every so often, and their liked songs.
I would also like everyone to remember that the series is set in 2016... they would have songs mostly from the 2000s-2010s with the exceptions of some 90s and 80s songs. I'm not saying that's a bad thing, I'm just saying that I looked up 2010s hit songs and I'm filled with nostalgia.
Overall, Ben's criticisms and recommendations are genuinely thoughtful. Especially the recommendations. For each person, after critiquing their playlists, Ben made a slide of genres and artists that each person should check out to expand their tastes.
(I'll probably make a bit about what songs were on their playlist, idk tho)
Group Reaction (how they ranked in comparison to each other)
Personally, Tyler and Logan getting the best ratings because their playlists are very consistent in their vibes and are replayable. I also think that Ben's music taste fits the most with these two for some reason, so they got the most song recs out of everyone.
Ashlyn is third in the ranking. She has one or two that she listens to occasionally, and they're pretty short. They are absolute polar opposites though. One of the playlists is rock, since she canonically likes Paramore (if you don't, get well soon), and the other is classical music for her ballet performances.
Taylor is next. Her playlist isn't bad, its just... a bit everywhere. Like it starts pretty good, but you can tell that somewhere along the lines of creating this playlist she just added songs that she remembered that she likes. It mostly fits the same genre. Ben makes her a more organized playlist after the presentation.
Aiden is dead last. It's not because his music taste is shit. Aiden actually has a pretty good music taste. No. Its because he only listens to his liked songs on repeat like a monster. It is musical whiplash. You go from a movie theme song, to crying, to listening to white girl club music, to rock, to crying again, and then for some reason the Home Depot jingle???? The only playlists that he makes are for jokes really. Do you know the John Mulaney bit where he plays "What's New Pussycat?" 27 times. Yeah, that's Aiden.
Tyler Hernandez
Tyler's next, and, I'm letting you know now that he sprayed the fuck out of Aiden for interrupting. Yeah, Ash pulled them a part.
Motherfucker is so pleased with himself, like its honestly so funny. Aiden had him by the collar and Tyler was just fucking smiling. Taylor does throw her slipper at him for being rude, but he could honestly care less.
The slideshow itself is the most soulless thing ever made, man used the Blank Google Slides template and called it a day. Like one stock image on each slide, and its so pixelated. He probably did it like an hour ago. That's why his presentation is funny because he's just jabbing at Aiden over and over with a basic slideshow that you'd see someone pull out in a Spanish 1-2 class.
You know what? He probably had another presentation about what piercing he think would suit the group best, and just did this one out of spite cause Aiden was being loud. I take back my previous statement about him doing it an hour before getting to Logan's place, he did this on his PHONE WHEN THE LAPTOP WAS UPDATING!!!! Like Logan was taking a walk, Ben was trying to fix the computer, the girls went to make sandwiches, Aiden was running errands, and Tyler made this in an hour.
His presentation is based off a tier system where it gets more effective with each method. Methods 1-3 are pretty basic where its just stuff like duct taping his mouth shut, 4 and onwards just gets funny
I'll be completely honest, each way he put is wild, and it gets progressively more deranged as the presentation goes on. These one's my favorite
"Number 9: Dying You know, I thought this would be the best way, but the bastard got crushed by a ceiling and walked it off. I want you to try and convince me that Aiden wouldn't crawl out of hell just to ruin my day. " "Number 10: Put him in a room alone with Ashlyn's mom and dad *insert a picture of Aiden sitting not so comfortably in between Ashlyn's parents* I don't even think I need to say anything else, I mean, I will, but like... look at him"
This is honestly the shortest presentation of the night but so far it's the most chaotic (he will quickly lose this title).
Tyler went through two spray bottles, mainly for Aiden, but he did spray Taylor once or twice. She threw a shoe at him. It's only fair.
Groups Reaction
Aiden is standing to the side with a towel around himself because Logan said his grandparents would kill them for ruining their couch. He's not exactly pissed but he is kind of sulking. Honestly this just makes his presentation so much better for him.
You know how Tyler asked for suggestions in the beginning, Ben and Ashlyn give him genuine ideas. Mainly Ben, just out of good humor you know. And Tyler's taking notes.
Taylor is giggling, but she does feel a bit bad for Aiden. At some point she gives him a consolation sandwich to raise his spirits.
Logan, however, doesn't and he's just quietly enjoying the scene that's unfolding around him.
The end of these two presentations are by far more chaotic than the first two, and it feels like its only going to get worse from here(/pos). Because right now Aiden is fighting with Tyler, getting him soaked too, Taylor is filming them while Logan provides commentary, and Ashlyn is standing with Ben setting up the next powerpoint.
While it was initially decided that Aiden would go last, Ashlyn suggested that she and him switch. Mainly so that he can drip dry while presenting, and sit down when he's done.
Aiden is following a presentation that was just jabbing at him, how do you think his is going to end up now?

Let's get one thing out of the way; I messed up.
If you want to go more in-depth, read this post. If you don't want to, here's the jist of the situation: For the last year - I think - I have been coloring Raj's skin tone lighter. This is completely and utterly my fault.
I'm not going to make any excuses, in fear that it will give others an excuse for their own deplorable actions. Though I don't see myself as a racist person, this is still an example of colorism, and I can't stand by it.
Total Drama is something I hold dear in my heart, and Raj is one of my favorite characters in the entire series. The fact I did him this dirty makes me never want to draw him again.
I'm so sorry. All I can do is apologize, and that's definitely not good enough. I will do better in the future. I don't want anything like this to happen again, and I won't let it happen again.
There is nothing I can say that'll fix this situation. I have disappointed myself and hurt an entire community of people. I hope I can eventually make up for my mistakes, but I know that isn't possible in a short amount of time.
I don't expect this to be taken lightly; it shouldn't be. If this is the last I see of some of you, I hope you take care.
The rest of this post directly responds to parts of thesicklycowboy's post.
āā āā ā
For this portion, I have also edited Raj's hair to be the correct color. (I didn't know where else to put this part, sorry.)
I won't be responding to everything, as I do think the post was well-spoken and something that certainly needs to be said, just parts that I felt I should respond to.
Blue is for them, and red is for me.
"So when you were addressing this and saying "it's color theory" excuse why did you not show your earlier pieces of Raj as well? The ones with far darker hair and deeper skin tones? You only referenced all the ones after after the lightening had begun."
As mentioned before, I don't know when the lightening began. The pieces I grabbed for comparisons were the ones that I could actively get the flats for. A lot of my previous pieces have been deleted from my iPad after being moved to my laptop for storage reasons. While you can tell that Raj is darker in my oldest TDI posts, I wouldn't have been able to color grab the original skin color to compare it to the others, which is why I added ones that I could find the flats of directly off of my page. I do wish I had gotten the flats for the oldest ones, but I can't really do anything about that now.
"The beginning of your ask responses is blatantly false and you contradict yourself at the end? So why keep that whole schpiel at all?"
Here is the part that they are referring to: "I didn't? I think he just looks lighter because of the filters I used on top of it."
I left this in for transparency because I genuinely thought that that was actually the case. But it wasn't. This is why I added, "Looking into the color issue..." I wanted to double check the claim because it very well could have been an issue. And it was.
... "And not yet another piece that is still super light."
Okay. I think I might know what the problem is here in particular. I add texture overlays (the layers with the filter of 'Sl' - Soft Light) to give my pieces... y'know, texture. The layer color I use is usually an off-white. I do this in all of my pieces because I thought it might help with keeping my work safe from AI, and because I like the paper-like look that it gives my art. I didn't put it over the entire piece because the background already has a ton of texture.
The one above is at 50%, and the one below it is at 30% for both Raj and Bowie.
Here is the same piece with the texture overlays turned off:
(Left is w/o the overlays, Right is w/ the overlays)
I don't want this argument to seem like I'm lessening my actions. This is the only thing that I think I have the right to stand up for. Texture is something I most likely won't take out of my work, though I may replace the texture overlays with something that is more full proof against AI, like those AI-disturbance layers that Ibis Paint has.
None of my actions were excusable, but I felt this needed to be explained.
Other than that, though, I don't know what else I could possibly do to fix the piece, considering I have fixed Raj's skin tone in this piece.
āā āā ā
The rest of the post is not something I feel the need to respond directly to. I do think you should go and read the original post criticizing me and decide what you want to do in this matter.
This was not a "silly mistake." What I have done is genuinely messed up. I'm not going to run from this situation and say that I was ever justified in my actions. Because I never was.
I can only hope to be given the chance to amend this situation with future works, whenever that might be. I will most likely not continue to talk about this unless asked to. Idk what else I could possibly say that wouldn't make this situation worse. I am the guilty party, and the only thing I can do is learn from this and do better in the future, which I will.
Again, I am so sorry. I have fucked up, and I am prepared to take the consquences of my actions.

Did you see that horrific Happy Hanukkah tweet featuring an AI Terry and Daniel in a cage from Hayden on Tw*tter??? So awful in every single way. Acknowledging a Jewish celebration in this disrespectful way with the character who is evil and the villain of the showāand who is apparently Jewish! YIKES. What was he thinking??
Anyway, Terry is always going to be Irish Catholic to me and I donāt care what The Big Three think. What a gross thing to do and Iām not even Jewish.
I minored in European medieval history and majored in 19th and 20th century European history. The Wikipedia page on antisemitism explains it better than I ever could but the cliff notes version of antisemitic stereotypes we all walked away with went like this, stereotypes, mind, that were used to continuously justify genocidal violence against Jewish people:
You, as an anti-semite, can recognise a Jew, among other things, by their
-Dark hair
-Name connected to jewels and or money
-Sophistication; they're dangerously smart even
-Rich by money made in trade or banking or illicit pursuits, they don't do 'honest' work
Jews were said to be untrustworthy, disloyal, backroom dealers who whisper in the ears of power to get their way
They were said to spefically target Christian children to harm in blood rituals
Whenever there is a sickness, it is because a Jew poisoned the water
...
Does this possibly remind you of a certain antagonist in The Karate Kid III? The one who heads a company called Dynatox?
So, you know, if you were going to write a dark haired, duplicitous, murderous rich guy who makes his money by bribing judges with money made by poisoning nature, who goes by the name of Silver
A man whose sole raison d'ĆŖtre is targeting young boys; and who does this primarily by deceit
You would have been very strongly advised not to make this character canonically Jewish when he wasn't said to be so in the original.
Just, no. NO. Please, for the love of all you hold dear, don't fucking do that.
But, apparently Hayden is Jewish, so then it must be fine. I mean the only cultural framework for a series based on a film that was released internationally and is streamed worldwide is the American one, obviously, so, sure, take the dark haired billionaire by the name of Silver who targets children and bribes officials with money made poisoning nature and make him not only rich but sophisticated rich, just to hammer the point home that he is a dark haired Jewish intellectual that harms nature and preys on children by tricking them before making them bleed and I'm just like, why didn't you give him a hooked nose while you were at it. To tick the last box on your antisemitic bingo card.
And what is it with the crush on the goy bully who looks like a literal poster boy for the Hitler Youth?
So, again, is it OK to make Terry Silver a wandering antisemitic stereotype of a villain when you're Jewish yourself? Again, I'd advise against it, really I would.
Is it absolute text that Terry is Jewish? No. It is very strongly implied but not text. And maybe it will fly over people's heads but then to keep hammering that point home? Feels like rage baiting. But you know, this is Hayden we're talking about, even his co writers were like, "Oops, maybe you shouldn't deny depicting the sexual assault of a teenage boy when that is clearly what you did, even perhaps unwittingly." So consider the source here: that man is a steaming pile of dog shit on the best of days.
When Thomas wrote his own Terry Silver AU he called him Terry McCain and made him very explicitly Irish, and I have written better posts than this one on why I headcanon that Terry was raised Catholic because his Irish American mother married his Jewish father. His father would have had another reason to see his son as less than because as a rule of thumb by Jewish law, only children born of Jewish mothers can be Jewish without converting and certainly not all practitioners of Judaism are accepting of converts, feeling that only those born of nonconverted Jewish mothers truly count as Jews. (It is far more nuanced than that, obviously, depending on individual circumstances, do look it up rather than simply take my word for it... Yet it comes up in media dealing with Jewish life with regularity.) And certainly in the 80's, Terry would style himself into a living antisemitic stereotype because fuck you, Papa, for dragging me to yet another bar mitswa I would never have, fuck you for hosting all those minyans I could never join, fuck you for the fact that even though I am your only son, I will never be able to say kaddish for you, I'll never be styled a true man in your eyes, Fuck. You. I'll show you Jewish! Which, you know, is insane, but this is Terry we are talking about, and it compels me, the son full of Catholic Guilt about not being Jewish enough. There really has to be a reason why he is Like That and I think that background might just do it.
So for a Watsonian reasons, I can work with it, but would I have strongly implied that Terry was Jewish, given his backstory in The Karate Kid III and possible lingering antisemitic stereotypes the audience may have been exposed to?
No I wouldn't have. Not in a million years.
Dickhead.

But seriously!;; I just- it just hit me, a realization you know? If you're talking about idol culture and how it could erase someone's individuality and all,
I wouldn't write a story in a way that'd make it seem like it was either the idol or their lover's fault if they got stalked and assaulted for having loved someone. That just... Hit me like a brick the moment I saw that chapter where Ai says she really wanted to be together with the guy, the story shouldn't be written in a way that'd make those thoughts she had be...wrong of having done so. It's just not it.
And it really hit harder knowing how wary and defensive Ai could be towards other people, she was scared of forming strong connections. But she really wished to do that with the guy. That meant so much...she did find that one person she loved enough to try and protect with everything she had when she was a kid too herself, oh...if I'm the one who writes her, I would never write her story in a way people would shake their heads and go 'Well, too bad. Seems like she made the wrong choice, she could have done better'. No way.
So... I just knew. If that's what she wanted, then it must see light. And it's a great thing she found him, the story should... Convince us of that to some extent. Because her being centers around the concept of love. It doesn't make sense for her to be wrong in that area.
Soo.. I kept drawing, I was so sure about this but yet I am so nervous too, whatever happens, Ai shouldn't look bad... For me, she's the one that brought in the biggest message for me in terms of this entire story, I'm nuts about love and loving people, Ai always chose to do it despite never having being completely understood herself, she's so precious and I always love characters like that who can do that for others... The guy she loved probably does love her more than anything else in the world too, more than his own life that he's pratically been just dead without her existence and missed her really bad he'd do anything to fill it in hshsh but he can't be that terrible if he's the one Ai's hand-picked lol, it's going to make both of them look really bad if he turns out like that..what is this story even
Oh, personally, I see why people would care for Ai for many different reasons, I see her as a "lovely" character myself, I like that about her the most. I don't even think she's completely dead. They said she's a star now(and that might be better than her being a person and suffering...the people living in onk did not give her justice) I hope she gets to see a good ending. What she wants, cannot be a bad thing the way I see it. It should be what the plot is supposed to be
#ai hoshino#oshi no ko#oshi no ko spoilers#hikaai#I see her man and go 'what happened'#and then I look back at Ai and get relieved.. it's been a repetition if that the past few months#I just don't see the writers making what she wanted... being a lost cause#they took her life already but they cannot take her legacy and wish from her!! I won't have the heart to do that#I just.. a few days ago I opened my copy of vol 11 and Aqua swore to make her true wish come true#what the heck Aqua???? did you do it??? did you??? was choking your dad it???#I just don't get this comic sometimes. i should never pick up an incomplete work next time...#spoilers

I'd like to throw my hat into the ring of modern FNAF theories:
Michael is the rogue indie developer.
Hear me out:
There is a clear divide right now in the FNAF games: games sanctioned by Fazbear Inc (Help Wanted, the racing game) and the games that came before. Help Wanted is supposed to be a VR recreation of those early games, right? But where are the details? They'll reference little things, inside jokes, but they won't go over the actual plots of these games, the biggest example being Sister Location and Pizza Sim. They have to change those plots completely, turning Sister Location into a more standard FNAF experience and Pizza Sim into a minigame.
Maybe we've been looking at "Michael is the protagonist of FNAF" the wrong way, although I do think he is a character we play as in each of the first six games; maybe the story of FNAF is initially told to us by Michael through these unsanctioned games, including all the gory details that only he could possibly know. Who else could possibly be around who knows not only the details of the multiple bite incidents, but what happens to Michael in Sister Location, as well as pizza sim- and for that matter, FNAF 4 with its intricate nightmare scenario.
"how could Michael have made the games if he got scooped?"
Canonically, remnant heals the body. I agree with everyone that purple zombie Mike is way more fun, but the cutscenes with ennard wearing Mike around actively tell us this: when ennard leaves, it forces its way out his mouth- why not leave through the gaping hole it entered in? Unless that hole was closed up now. Mike turning purple could be from the constant bruising being puppeted around by a robot would give you, faster than the remnant could possibly repair it.
Also, zombie learning to code to share a company's dirty secrets is pretty fucking funny.
"Michael died at the end of pizza sim"
I think that's a convenient thing for Michael to imply, with several reasons why he chose to. Number one, if Fazbear Inc is actively trying to find the person exposing the company for its past, telling them one of their major suspects is dead could be helpful. Number two, why were we told in the game that a way out was planned for us? We are explicitly told a way out exists, and then once we get to security breach, we see that the tangle is running around- something that shouldn't be possible. There is the possibility that the tangle found the way out, but consider the more compelling option: Michael took the way out, and the consequence of that was monsters escaping. And once again, it's Michael's fault, though not on purpose, that the horrors continue. Michael should have stayed, and that regret is reflected in the game. Everything would have come to an end if he had.
The wall code in the sister location room in security breach is also a big hint to me. Clearly we're supposed to associate that room with Michael. I've heard many theories on who could have written the wall code; none of them make much sense combined with Michael's room. They make sense on their own, but we have to take where the code is placed into account too!
I do think that if this theory is true, robot Gregory is also true, but that's a very long other post lol. And ultimately I have no fucking idea if this is right!! This is FNAF, we may never know, but might as well toss another idea out there.
(it's also been pointed out that glamrock Freddy's manner of speaking, if we're going to compare it to characters we've heard talk, is much closer to Henry, both character and speech pattern-wise. We don't hear much from Michael, granted, but combined with the comments we see him make in the logbook, he doesn't match Freddy's demeanor very well. There's also AI in there of course, but I think it's worth noting)

The main takeaway from the conversation around the lack of reblogs or comments on fics shouldn't be "writers want more engagement". It should be "the lack of meaningful interaction with creative works makes fandom less enjoyable", I think.
Frankly, I couldn't give a rat's ass if a fic of mine or fanart gets a million notes if it doesn't spark a conversation or any sign of a reaction. The most that a like communicates to me is that someone tapped a button and moved on.
The whole point of fandom creation is to share your ideas with the hopes of connecting with other fans, so when people start to treat creative works like another endless stream of content to scroll through, it kills that feeling of connection.
The whole reason why people want followers and reblogs to begin with is because that USED TO MEAN that more people would interact with you! That's the issue here š
I feel like we've been trained to look at everything like a disposable product that we can consume before moving onto the next thing. Thatās like...the antithesis of what it means to engage with a creative work.
If this wasn't the case, people wouldn't have cozied up to AI-generated content in the fic community so quickly. I still think about that one viral comment where someone took an unfinished fic and put it into chatGPT without the author's consent, just so that the main characters could get happily married and be done with it.
(This coincides with the apparent hatred people have begun to express towards stories that are tragic or open-ended, but that's an entirely different conversation.)
You're *supposed* to come back to shit you enjoyed years after it's published. You're *supposed* to chat with others about something you like with earnest excitement. It's not cringe or weird. That's the point!
Please, for the love of god, start making it a habit to engage with things that make you excited. It really is about more than just writers being sad about numbers.
#this isn't even touching on fanartists who need people to actually see their shit to pay the bills#but again different conversation#blabbering#fandom discourse#spiderman across the spiderverse

Sorting Hat
In this post, @van-dyne perfectly described why Tony is a Gryffindor. Although @sortinghatchats themselves put him in Slytherin, having made mistakes on all fronts with their reasons.
I took it upon myself to take their test for him based on his actions in the MCU. I'll show all the answers and add notes on why I chose them.
Remember IM1, when Tony returned from Afghanistan and stopped weapons production at his company? His closest people, Obadiah Stane and James Rhodes, were unhappy with this and tried to convince him to get back and work with the military. Did he act against their wishes? I hope you watched the movie.
Pepper was shocked that Tony became a vigilante and was strongly against it, knowing that it would kill him sooner or later. The mission was too important for Tony to abandon it for the sake of his "inner circle."
The list of examples would be too long, so I'll just add one more: in Infinity War, Pepper told him that he shouldn't wear the nanoparticle housing on his chest all the time, which he rationally couldn't agree to. He then rushed to rescue Strange on the Donut ship, and Pepper told him to fly back immediately. He felt guilty, said he was sorry, but there was no way he was just going to abandon Strange and go home to Pepper.
To suggest that Tony puts "his people" above others is simply ridiculous.
"I just finally know what I have to do. And I know in my heart that it's right".
In addition to what has already been said about his intuitive morality:
In Tony's case, it is difficult to distinguish intuition from conscious reasoning. Mainly because the other characters don't seem to have any conscious reasoning at all (guys, you almost lost to the Chitauri. What makes you think you can handle the next alien attack?). It is therefore unclear whether his understanding of the coming imminent threats from space is reasoning or intuition. But in any case, he listened to it and took action to prevent the catastrophe.
We can also use examples like when he realized Loki's plan in The Avengers, created Vision from JARVIS, and chose to trust Peter.
That's what he always did. From the cave in Afghanistan when he decided to build the arc reactor and armor, to the choice he made in Endgame to stay with his family or go and complete his mission. He took a breath, checked with himself and figured out the path he wanted to take.
Family was what he desired. What he never really had before Endgame. But that wasn't his top priority because HE wasn't a priority for himself. He had a mission to make the world a better place through science, technology and heroic deeds. Although he would prefer to delegate the latter to a protective AI and send the superheroes, including himself, into a well-deserved peaceful retirement.
In IM3, when he was told that he could only save the US President or Pepper, he decided to try to save the President first.
In Endgame, although his reasoning told him that he shouldn't mess with time and should stay with his finally found family, he knew that if he chose that option, he wouldn't be able to live in peace. Because his heart had another priority.
This question is quite difficult to answer because of its complexity, and there are not many situations like this. But I'd go with the Senate hearing in IM2, where the senator from Hydra tried to take the suit away from Tony. Tony didn't know Hydra still existed, but he felt it was wrong to give that to this guy and the military in general, even if their arguments made sense.
Another example is the conversation between Tony and Strange in Infinity War when they were deciding whether to go to Titan or return to Earth: "I donāt know what to do. So Iām not so sure if itās a better plan to fight him on our turf or hisā¦ but you saw what they did, what they can do. At least on his turf, heās not expecting."
In IM1, he learned that his friend tried to kill him, that his weapons were sold to terrorists, and that he didn't know what was going on in his company. He believed in the wrong people, and he believed in the wrong premises whose people fed him. He fixed it and moved on, doing better.
In IM2, he learned that his belief that his father didn't love him was wrong (at least from his point of view). He learned it, moved on, and became a better father than his own ever was.
In CA:CW, he learned that Barnes was framed and that he did not carry out the attack on the UN. He decided to do better and went to help Rogers and Barnes in Siberia.
No matter how many times and for what reasons Pepper, Rhodes, and the Avengers disagreed with him, he never stopped caring for them and respecting them. Even after betrayals, when other people would never forgive and trust again.
It's a bit of a paradox: Tony didn't trust his own decisions, as Happy told us in SM:FFH: "TonyĀ was my best friend, and he was a mess. He second-guessed everything he did", and didn't trust his abilities, which we see in IM3 and AoU (his biggest fear is not being able to protect Earth, not doing enough). But he trusted his inner feeling of what is right.
Tony's fuel was his mission. Even if he were left completely alone, he would not abandon it. This happened to him in IM1, when he returned from captivity and no one from his inner circle supported his new cause. Or CA:CW, when he was betrayed and abandoned, but he had a job to do and a planet to protect.
Tony in IM3, when told he can either save the US President or Pepper: saves both.
When he is told he can only save 4 people who fell from Air Force One: saves all 13.
Tony in CA:CW: mourning the death of a boy who died in the Battle of Sokovia.
In SM:H Peter and Tony: "I justĀ wantedĀ to beĀ like you". "And IĀ wanted you to be better".
Tony and Pepper in Endgame: "I can't help everybody". "Sorta seems like you can". "Not if I stop. I can put a pin in it right now and stop". "Tony, trying to get you to stop has been one of the few failures of my entire life". "Something tells me I should put it in a lockbox and drop it to the bottom of the lake and go to bed." "But would you be able to rest?"
Between being a "kind liar" to comfort delusional people and being harsh but sticking to what he believes is right, Tony mostly chooses the latter.
Although there were also many times where he chose to be kind and "not right" because being kind was more important to others in those situations: letting Nebula win their paper football competition, agreeing to mess with time to get back 50% of the universe, fixing and returning the shield to Rogers, etc.
Tony is known for his tendency to isolate himself and try to do everything alone. He takes responsibility and would take all the blame in the world if he could. If he believes something needs to be done and others may disagree, he will be brave enough to at least try and then live with the consequences.
Powerless to protect people. In the movies, he got angry several times when he thought he failed to prevent something (save people from Thanos - the anger he unleashed on Rogers in Endgame), that he did something wrong (gave Peter the suit in SM:H), when he couldn't convince others not to make mistakes (CA:CW before the airport battle).
He literally ignored Ross' call in CA:CW to help the rogue Avengers escape from the Raft.
But seriously, it depends on the calling: I chose what Tony would most likely choose. Although if the calling was to save lives at the cost of letting a friend down, he would pay the price, but would later feel guilty about it and would do everything to help his friend once the people were out of danger.
Tony made some decisions in his life that he regretted, actually saying that "it was selfish and stupid": IM3 - after the attack on the Malibu mansion Ultron ("My fault")
Tony tried to save Stane when he was falling off the roof in a deleted scene in IM1. He forgave Rhodey after he stole the Mark II and gave it to the military and Justin Hammer. He forgave Rogers, Natasha, and the rogue Avengers. None of them have changed. He just always forgives.
But not in a selfish way. That's exactly how Tony would answer, even though he wasn't the most important thing to himself and would sacrifice everything he loved for the sake of other people. He was not "specific people-focused", but "cause-focused", where the cause was to protect people.
When he sacrificed his life in Endgame, he sacrificed his daughter too because he killed her father. He asked her for forgiveness for this in a deleted scene of the Soul Stone vision before he died. He couldn't die peacefully without it, but he also couldn't let others die. He sacrificed his wife because he killed her husband. He did this so that all people could live except himself, and so that all families could be reunited except his own family.
And let's not forget the episode of What If? where Tony, unlike Thor, cared about the people of Sakaar (a Gryffindor/Hufflepuff trait), while Thor only cared about his people from Asgard (a Slytherin trait).
Here we are. Pure Gryffindor. There's no "you may also consider that you are a Snake/Bird/Badger". The real Sorting Hat would not even hesitate. I got the Lion primary too, but with "you may also consider that you are a Snake primary".
He also got Lion secondary, but that doesn't fit into this post. If anyone is interested, I will make a separate post.
And if someone disagrees with the options I have chosen - bring your own booze arguments.

Same anon as before. Anon due to security reasons. I know you have to be aware that take is not well liked. It sounds like you're trying to say you support it without being irreparably canceled. A frankly disappointing sentiment. I agree those that those who use it shouldn't be harassed but they also shouldn't be given a voice or a platform which is unfortunately what you offer them. It speaks to a lack of integrity. I have seen evidence in your server very recently that suggests you outwardly support it. If I'm reading that wrong then you have not said anything to convince me to the contrary. In fact I asked the question to begin with to give you the benifit of the doubt. I would rather you come out and say that you support it and face the conciquences then poorly playing both sides.
Thank you for taking the time to answer the question, god speed in your days. Proverbs 11:3 and Luke 12:15
(Conversation continued from https://www.tumblr.com/shantismurf/764912386766503936/)
I am painfully aware of how unpopular my stance on this issue is with a subset of our fandom. Believe me, it would be a lot easier for me to just say exactly what you want to hear and rail all day about the evils of this big bad technology and how anyone who breathes a word that isn't hateful about it is morally defunct. It's actually precisely because I am a person of integrity that I cannot do that. I say what I mean. If you can't read my words without twisting them to your preconceived notions, I cannot help that.
I'm just not capable of boiling an issue as complex as this into simple black and white terms. AI is too broad, and the applications too diverse. I believe my position on this topic is that of an informed and reasonable adult (I am 46) who recognizes that the world is complex and that life is an unending process of trying to make the best choices that you can given the information and energy available to you.
So, what is your ideal outcome in all this? Would you like to see all Al eliminated? Do you expect no one to use it, ever? Who decides what's okay to use and what's not, and what gives them the right to make that determination? Where should the priority of fanfic writers using AI tools sit alongside abortion rights and genocide and, you know what, I don't have the energy for this. I have cancer. And I have four young children. The only reason I am investing my precious personal energy into this issue is because I cannot abide the fact that a certain group of individuals feel it is their right to gatekeep and impose their morality on others, to bully young writers whose first experience in fandom was being singled out when their writing tripped some ai detectors (but not all, because they are useless...and why are people going around policing other people's work like that anyway?)
I just want to read, and maybe sometimes write, stories about a fictional Hobbit and the fictional dwarf he loves. And I want to tell people who share their creations of those characters how amazing they are. And I want to talk about how much I love this fandom with other people who love it too. But you don't think I should have any of that because I won't say that people who use a certain technology in a certain way are immoral and should be shunned.Ā
You threaten me with being "irreparably canceled" and I personally find that practice completely repugnant. Witch-hunts where people run other's work through faulty ai detectors is what should be canceled. This intolerant culture of unilateral humiliation and scorn for that which does not fully align with one group's personal worldview is what is immoral.
Oh, and regarding the discord conversation you referred to, it occurred between an actor and screenwriter who has been directly impacted by the infringement of Al in the industry, and a fanfic writer who has learning differences, and myself. The person with learning differences expressed how they wept with joy and relief when they saw how an Al tool could correct thousands of errors in their writing in a tiny fraction of the time it would take them to do so manually. It makes writing more accessible for them. The actor expressed frustration and despair over the future of their career and also has shared the ways they use Al tools to support their creativity and their career. I was supportive of both of their experiences and celebrated their bravery in speaking openly when it could leave them vulnerable to harassment. We each talked about our experience with and questions about the technology. It's precisely the kind of dialog that I value; uplifting, non-judgemental, and informative.
These issues are complex. You can't cut it down a line and say yes this and no that. You don't know where other people are coming from or what their reasoning is, and you don't have the right to judge them. You are most welcome to join our community and participate in our discussions in good faith, but if you are only there to lurk and spy and look for dirt on people, you should take a good hard look at your motivations for that behavior.
By the way, I understand why you would make the assumption that I am Christian based on my previous statement about Jesus. I admire the ideals that Jesus represents, but I put no special weight on the words of the Christian Bible over any other historical text. I am choosing to overlook the references you made that seem to imply I am duplicitous and greedy. My formative experience in a non-denominational Christian cult left me with a deep need to reject absolutes, and respect individuality. I am agnostic, which means I don't think it's possible to know what is and is not true, but I am always learning and always seeking that truth. That's actually a good metaphor for this whole situation. I'm agnostic about Al too.
Say it's playing both sides, if you must. This is who I am. I do not pander to anyone. I can't spend any more energy on this. I'm not going to judge or punish people for the software they use, and I'm not going to stand idly by when people around me are hurt by this senseless vitriol. Intolerance and discrimination are never okay.
I believe we've said what needs to be said, but I'm not going to turn off my anonymous asks. If you feel the need to offer a private rebuttal, feel free. I will not respond publicly again. You can dm me here or on discord if you really want to have a sincere conversation. I'm not interested in holding a grudge. I just want you to leave people alone.
Scripture references:
- Proverbs 11:3 NIV - The integrity of the upright guides them, but the unfaithful are destroyed by their duplicity.
- Luke 12:15 NIV - Then he said to them, āWatch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; life does not consist in an abundance of possessions.ā

thinking about true robot/AI characters again. if 'personality' or 'identity' can be loosely thought of as what makes a being uniquely themselves, a robot's personality would lie in what differentiates them from other robots of the same make and program. but by design, programs shouldn't differ from each other--inconsistency is the exact opposite of what you want. what differentiates a robot then would lie in deviations from the norm, i.e. glitches. but programs will frequently have "known glitches" where the same type of error will occur semi-regularly. this wouldn't differentiate one instance of a program from another. lived experience would help in shaping others' perceptions but not really the crux of the matter, because no one thinks of "my excel" versus their co-worker's excel, even if those two excels are used to do totally different things. maybe then what creates more unique glitches is a physical defect in the hardware. a form of the spirit is willing but the flesh is weak, maybe. the 'personality' of the robot wouldn't be their general affect or behaviour, because those would be dictated by their programming and i have no interest in sentient robots, but rather in that tiny little kernel of deviation. well, at least internally. at the end of a day a robot is an object, and what makes objects meaningful is quite literally just what the person on the other end feels. a plushie can be just a mass-produced toy to everyone on earth except one person, to whom it's a companion they've shared years of adventures with. and it wouldn't correct to say that that plushie is the latter to someone who's seeing it for the first time, but it would also be silly to act like the plushie's "objective" (!) characteristic as a mass-produced toy somehow interferes with that one person's view of it.
there's loads to analyze and question about our relationships to objects and how they change depending on context, but i think what i'm most interested in is how robot characters by and large are not thought of as objects at all, but as people. this is for obvious reasons, but i think it's also rather boring. i like fantasy and sci-fi that explore different types of subjectivities altogether, including ones that maybe aren't "subjectivities" in the way we usually mean it. an AI program is inherently a "personality" that you can only experience from a second person perspective. that person is "just" a chinese room. but just like the plushie example, why should that prevent others from creating a unique bond and perception of the AI, as an object rather than as a person? a robot like that would essentially be a different thing/person to different characters, in a way different from how people are different people to different people. i think it would be really fun and interesting to explore the interplay between an entity's "soul" (for the lack of a better term) being in the eyes of the beholder, a soul that literally takes shape outside of the body, without agency. a robot's personality can only be experienced from the second person perspective, but by experiencing it you are also literally hosting it, in both senses.
honestly you could go in so many different directions with this, depending on what kind of story you're trying to tell. whether it's you, or you're it, or it's itself and you're you, or both but only in one direction. there simply needs to be more "speculative fiction" that actually speculates about things other than, what if there was something that was exactly like real life. but with a different name and simpler
#more stuff that blurs the line between objecthood and personhood that isn't just about real world objectification please#i need. to finish reading ornamentalism. and i guess. ugh. i guess i need to read more sci-fi....

17. List five headcanons for your favorite characters!
if any of Himiko's tigers become too unruly to use in a Magic Show, she and Gundham find a high-quality, comfy zoo or refuge for it to live out the rest of its days. preferably somewhere in Japan, because she loves to visit them in their new homes (plus, it's how she impresses dates!)
Ryoko Otonashi is in fact Junko's real name, and so Otonashi is the Despair Twins' true last name. also: their real hair color is indeed red. also: Junko has freckles, but covers them up. devoid of all makeup and hair dye, you truly would not be able to tell the Despair Twins apart
Chiaki is a cuddler. romantic, platonic, doesn't matter. if you're down with it, she will Snuggle up to you for a nap
in a non-despair AU/nice AU like UTDP/Summer Camp, the Monokubs were autonomously built by Monokuma himself. Junko, like, woke up one day and discovered five Babier Bears stealing shit out of her room and trying to kill Mukuro (who is lazily keeping them at bay with a swat of the arm). his AI just decided to reproduce by itself, i guess. explains why he'd been hoarding old N64 parts for the last six months (the Monokubs have frosted 90s aesthetic exteriors)
characters that can speak relatively decent English include unsurprising folks like Kyoko, Sonia, and Byakuya, but also unexpected figures like Chihiro (to converse with other coders), Mukuro (good when you're a merc), and Hina (part Westerner!)
BONUS: misc headcanon about Hope's Peak Academy itself, as it relates to many characters. HPA being a Locus for constant weird shit due to its Unusual student body, they generally take care of their own: feds and cops are not involved. not even for any particular Political reason, but because no one will patch up people like Miu post-psychosis better than Mikan, troublemakers don't want to risk getting a talk-down from Taka, and EVERYONE is a little afraid of Sakura even if she is mostly a sweet-but-stoic bean. SHSLs are better than feds and cops. they self-regulate, even if they shouldn't, and even when someone like Nagito is setting Pipe Bombs in the art room for inexplicable reasons. saves Jin a lot of insurance money too

Was watching a French movie about a company recreating their clients' dearest memories (with actors and historical reconstructions and everything), with the main character being one of their client and he just feel so weird bc everything looks absolutely fake and everyone is playing pretend very awfully.
Somehow, this was the final stage of disgust I needed to really feel awkward enough about Character AI that I will never touch this shit again.
#for context i was already feeling pretty awful about it#but some hyperfixation dragged me against my will into using it#with like one (1) chat for only one (1) character#it was so weird seriously everything felt so awkward#the AI was trying to get me to fuck it so badly I felt so weird#and also nothing made sense i literally just did a joke#the character got flustered#confessed his feelings almost immediately after#got me traumadumping to make it credible (i hate it when people say they like me but don't know about my past)#said i love you in the fucking same time#and then proceed to propose to me like 2 hours later#fucking awful hated it#ai can't replace my dear ao3 authors sorry to the tech bros#reasons why you shouldn't use character ai#whispers from atlantis

Wrote all this out for a Youtube comment and then realized that Tumblr would probably like it too.
"I really don't understand why this is such a controversial topic. Chatbots shouldn't exist. Full stop. There is no nuance to this because there is absolutely no way to proceed from here that makes the use of AI chatbots ethical.
I'll start with the most relevant point to the issue. People are going to get hurt using them. The most likely candidates for this is children and the mentally ill. Yes, as a mentally stable, mature human being, you are fully aware that the bot is not human. But it reacts like one. The human brain anthropomorphizes things. That's just what it does. As an example, look up some of the history around people filming with Muppets. Even though people can see the "wizard behind the curtain" it is very easy to forget that fact and slip into the mentality of "the thing I am talking to is real. It has real human emotions and opinions. I can form a bond with this thing." I can only imagine how much easier it is to fall into that mindset if you don't have a good support system around you, especially when the set-up of chatbots is made to look so similar to any other DM system.
I've seen people comparing this issue to violent video games or stuff like D&D when that could not be any further from the truth. Video games try to be immersive but they don't try to be real. There are pop ups, menu screens, video game logic. At no point is the character looking directly at you and trying to convince you that they're real. There are set dialogue prompts. You can't say whatever you want and have the characters respond like real living people. D&D is always played in a group. There are people there with you to monitor you and ensure that you're not falling into delusion. There is a constant connection to reality though the physical act of rolling the dice and going over your character sheet. And, again, there are REAL people there with you who CAN think and feel and make decisions. Part of the reason why AI chatbots are immoral is because of this. If you roleplay with a person, there's an individual there who can monitor you. Who can call it off if they think you're in danger or going too far. And if that person DOESN'T stop you, and instead encourages you? We can hold them accountable for your death. By the very nature of AI, there is no one to hold accountable.
I am all for having a safe place to vent your emotions, for being able to explore dark topics in a controlled manner, but there is a reason why most dangerous activities have a buddy system built in. There is a reason why you need a valid ID to buy alcohol. There is a reason why bleach doesn't come with a straw. Just because you don't need the handrails, doesn't mean we should stop building them because you think they ruin the experience of walking up stairs.
Even putting aside the fact that these machines will kill people and HAVE, there is still no moral way to engage with them. Having chatbots gives companies an excuse not to hire people for call centers and instead replace them with these garbage hunks of code. A single prompt from an AI uses tons of water to cool the computers powering them, along with using massive amounts of fossil fuel powered energy, causing ever more pollution. Using an AI chatbot is no different than engaging in fast fashion or buying all new holiday decorations every year. Don't buy things that will go straight to a landfill. Don't engage in helping to destroy the planet when there are viable alternatives such as talking to a real person. Or just using your goddamn imagination like people have been doing since the dawn of time.
AI chatbots work by scraping the data from fanfiction, many of which the authors did not consent to having their works used in this way. This has been an issue long before AI, but people tend to look at artists as content mills. As dancing monkeys for their own personal amusement. Because of today's culture of constant stimulation on demand, if we stop dancing for even one moment, our audience will move over to the We Kill Dancing Monkeys And Puppet Their Frankenstein-Style Corpse On A String company. I'd have to look into it, but I can only imagine commission rates for writers have plummeted with the advent of AI because now people can just get it for free. I don't even want to think about how decimated the actual roleplay community is.
And if you engage with or support AI even while knowing all this, that it's potentially dangerous and destroying the environment and actively harming people's livelihoods, then yes, I do believe you are fundamentally a bad person. If you've used AI in the past but hadn't considered or known about some of my talking points, that's fine. Now you do. Now stop and make better informed choices. For any AI supporters who still believe that they are in the right or that they're not harming anyone: honestly, just get away from me. I don't want to talk to you. I barely even want to exist in the same world as you."
#anti ai#fuck ai#if any of you fucking tech bros want to argue with me im coming to your house and cutting off your nips with childs safety scissors

See the thing about all the misanthropy stuff is. I've always related to computers, monsters and aliens more than human characters in sci-fi stories. But specifically i've always related to computers, monsters and aliens who like and love humans. Who admire humans and who have hope for them and who take inspiration from them.
Sci-fi likes to do a certain trope a lot where they have the nonhuman robot/computer or alien or Etc. character hate humans, find them repulsive or pathetic or crude or etc. etc. I'm not even talking about stories where nonhuman characters lash out in response to mistreatment by humans. I won't lie and say i never relate to those characters too. Because i do, because i get it. But ones where they look down on humans for being human? Robots or AI who find humans laughable because they can't do things as quickly or because they bleed when they're hurt. Aliens, somehow always overly logical geniuses, who patronize human characters for not being an "advanced society" or for being prone to frivolous emotions. Werewolves who feel condescending disgust at humans simply because they aren't as physically strong; vampires or elves smugly laughing at the pitiful lifespan; dare I even start on tropes of angels and demons.
At the point you feel superior for the sole reason that they are human and you aren'tā why is this better, how is this radical? These tropes involve the same feelings that a lot of humans have toward other beings, projected ideas of how every sapient thing would probably feel if they were in some way physically or intellectually superior... feelings about the very idea of superiority and inferiority that have been used to hurt me, in actual real life, when my disabilities or ethnicity or sexuality designate me inferior. I am not going to feel "superior" to anybody after growing up as a queer autistic Jewāand the Jewish part of all this is essential here, I think, considering everybody reading this is probably queer and autisticāknowing that superior and inferior are not things that even exist, especially when applied to people. They can't be and shouldn't be.
IDK where i'm going with this. You can feel whichever way you want. I'd rather misanthropy be rampant in the community than for everybody to feel like they're required to have or voice some sort of saccharine optimist-approved hopepunk "faith in humanity." G-d knows i'm not an optimist, let alone faithful. This is all just stream of consciousness now but i guess i'm saying in a way not only do I relate to fictional nonhumans who care about humanity, that's just kind of what I literally am. I'm not human and i admire humans for what they are. Not just that. I recognize what they are; a completely neutral type of being without inherent moral or ontological significance, just like everything else. I don't think i would go as far as to wish I was human like narratives for these characters often do, but I just can't vibe with misanthropy. Humans started naming all the animals they saw. Humans came up with music and tea and made bananas really good. Humans wrote down all the things that happened to them so the future could know about it. Humans wrote stories where computers and animals and aliens are their friends just so they could feel less alone. How in the universe could you ever decline the offer?

okay SO i've watched the first batch of s2 episodes and i'm going to put my thoughts under the cut. read at your own risk, don't read at all if you're not done with earthspark, etc etc.
i'm gonna be so real, i didn't much care for the chaos terrans. imo they don't feel like they really added much to the story aside from being like. a foil to the malto gang. and even then they came up so little after their Important Introductory Episode(s) that it feels like a waste of potential. who knows. maybe there's something planned for them later, even though starscream axed them.
the episodes with twitch and spitfire specifically didn't really vibe with me for a couple of reasons. first being that the whole "twin/copy that's just a Bitchier Version Of The Character" is not. great? to me? and the whole "I'M BETTER THAN YOU BECAUSE MY ALT MODE IS DRONE 2.0" just feels very. meh. they second reason is much more personal so i won't get into it but it definitely left a weird feeling in my chest.
also i'm sure people are going to be all up in arms about starscream being A Villain(tm) but honestly? i'm here for it. s2 starscream is exactly what i want out of a starscream. the loop back around to the "remember to take care of yourself" is VERY on-brand for him, because he's a selfish motherfucker. and the fact that he threw his Bonding Moment with hashtag back in her face? it hurts in the best way possible.
i'm sure i'll have more thoughts on a rewatch but these are fresh from my brain so take them as you will.
edit: i just remembered something in regards to hashtag.
she should NOT be okay with there being an ai assistant in her head now. this girl got mind controlled by dr. meridian and used by him to attack her family and she was TRAUMATIZED by that. she literally uses her experience to try and reach out to starscream in s1 ep 21. WHY is she suddenly OKAY with there being an AI ASSISTANT living in her HEAD. WHY. like, unless she got some therapy during this one year timeskip, she should NOT be okay with this. i'd argue that even with a year's worth of therapy and coping mechanisms, she STILL shouldn't be okay with this ai assistant rattling around in her head. Make It Make Sense.

Analysis- Kamiki's wish & Tsukuyomi's idea on "Fate"
I'm going to freaking kick kamiki's butt but let's note that there were a lot of things that he's done(within that brief moments of screentime that he's been getting) that are worth discussing about. I can say a lot about him while being unable to form a full conclusion about him, he is THE mystery element in this series for me, it's getting ridiculous, I just want solid answers and get it over with(but nope! I also don't want the conclusion that AI shouldn't have loved this guy because that's not just about this guy being insane, it totally undermines the point of the story)
this guy talked a whole lot about wishes when he came to meet the twins, and asked them what they wanted. I feel like "WISH" could be of the keys of understanding of this character's core elements, I think.. he has a wish he wants to fulfill and THAT HAS TO BE REGARDING AI. The song Mephisto was all about wanting for wishes to come true, and that wish was first bringing back their dead loved one back with their life -> warped into "becoming that person". I feel like that's EXACTLY the mindset of what this character went through with this, whole "feeling Ai" "wishing her presence" "carrying the weight of life" "sin" deal going about him. He even congratulated Aqua's wishes on coming true in 153!!! I feel he had himself a wish that he WANTS to fulfill, so that's how he's so keen about one.
Those black-crow looking clothes he wore when he made his appearance in the mountains when Yura dies (it's gonna happen in the anime huh? Yeah best way to leave the season on a cliffhanger btw, YOU KNOW, THE ONE REASON I THINK WHY THE MANGA IS SO CONFUSING RIGHT NOW THAT THEY DON'T WAN'T US TO KNOW WHAT HE'S EXACTLY BEEN DOING BEFORE THIS SHOWS UP THERE. It'd burst all the bubbles if we already know what he's up to, but we STILL don't know anything about him. We don't even know if he's the one who's pushed Yura and we still ACTUALLY don't know what happened on the day Ai was killed in a clear way!!!!) that resembles Tsukuyomis. I was pointed this a while ago from @aihoshiino.. I wonder if that means something, personally, I think this can be related to some things he's said about gods in 147,
if Ai's fate was dying there by a crazy fan in the young age on 20, I'm sure Kamiki would want to change it. What I'm thinking is that he cares about her life more than his own and I believe this could be backed up by what he thinks of Ai in 162 despite the mess of that chapter is, he only felt alive when he had Ai with him. So after her death, it was practically like he had no life at all. That's why he's so eager to give up everything for her. Tsukuyomi is the god that deals with fate and souls. She doesn't seem to look at Kamiki that fondly, so I think what he's getting at here by "god doesn't give us answers(...)if you come up with an answer after worrying about it so much, then you have to accept it, everyone does" is that,
He wants to change Ai's fate of death and even Tsukuyomi would have to accept it, even if she's THE god that deals with it. If there's something that could have warped this originally soft and timid person into the insanity that he is now, I believe it'd be this.
it also explains why he keeps going he's okay with dying and it's not bad several times (he DOESN'T have the will to live in the first place after he's lost Ai) but also goes Not yet/he has something to do BEFORE that happens.
If what he is going about is about "amplifying" Ai's presence, I feel like if it's sufficiently fulfilled, she could have actually been brought back in a sense. In that case, he HAS been doing something for Ai in a pretty.. practical manner despite it's what Ai wouldn't have wanted. This presence thing is basically actually him saying he wants her back alive and living. He wanted her to go on living. It's just phrased in a really confusing way so that we don't get to sympathize with this guy and misdirect our ways of thinking that he's totally insane(HE IS for sure, but at the same time, what he wants is what every person who's lost a love may wish for-not the method, but the way of thinking-the author doesn't want us to figure this out yet for some reason because they're hiding something about him continuously, I feel like there's going to be some sort of impactful blow that'd be coming related to this aspect)
I don't think Tsukuyomi supports this idea nor is too fond of him, I think she wanted Aqua to take him down because Kamiki would meddle with her ways, thus was keen about the "revenge" aspects of his mission. But Aqua later derives himself to a conclusion that his life wasn't about revenge the way Tsukuyomi wanted it to be, he came up with his own reasoning for doing what he's done. Keeping Ruby safe.
She had her eyes on Kamiki and watches his demise(I hope this isn't his end though because it's not a direction I'd be so fond with), maybe feeling a bit melanchoilc and a feeling of half-satisfaction that she got what she's wanted, although it wouldn't have been so happy for her either seeing a soul break that bad
BUT WHAT MADE HIM BREAK THIS BAD? Was this always in him in the first place? Is he a guy that could have always killed people? So did Ai choose the wrong man who'd become a serial killer for "her sake" out of desperation when it'd be nothing what she truly wants? Kamiki's feelings towards Ai is strong. It was always strong from their younger years and it's been the core of his character, no matter what I make of this guy, that would not change.
The important part for me now is just what pushed him to have this sort of belief and pushed him, shattering his personality even, (HE WENT THROUGH WITH THIS FOR AT LEAST 15 YEARS. If he was tended to and "saved" earlier, there is no way he would have broke this bad;;;) if there is one. THE SONGS IMPLY THERE IS SOMETHING. and he says these weird stuff about making offerings in 147(it's not in the English translations but I swear I see it in the versions I see, it happens when he talks with nino after having met akane) so there could be some other god that's convinced him that if he does what he asks of him, Ai could be brought back. That probably destroyed his soul, and seeing him like that, Tsukuyomi didn't want the same thing happening to Aqua so she told Aqua in advance that AI CANNOT be reincarnated back to life.(118)
What Tsukuyomi says in 118 is the COMPLETE OPPOSITE OF WHAT KAMIKI DESIRED. He wanted to believe Ai could still exist and feel her presence. I feel like what Kamiki wanted, and thought in that case, was :
"Ai is still somewhere." "I may be able to find her if I try hard enough." "She can be born again and she may be able to live happily somewhere." "Her story didn't end." "Death isn't death. There's still a chance." "Ai can still think, she can think about me and everything else."
"Ai can smile again."
Just flip everything Tsukuyomi says in 118 and I feel that's what Kamiki would have wanted to believe in and felt about Ai. That's what he intended to fulfill and could never give up on, that's why he couldn't die yet. He wanted to save her the way she did for him, he wanted her life back to her. It just didn't work. He thought about doing that till the very end (could have been twisted into him being able to feel her in the middle though)
why do I feel like Tsukuyomi either told Kamiki the same thing or she couldn't but wanted to, but he was already way past the line?
If there is something that's used him, and this sort of desperation he has, it led him to take these extreme measures he's been taking and it reaped him of his nobility.
That's extremely tragic and in that case, I can see how this character, out of all, is getting two songs with one being him becoming gradually warped into what he is now(Mephisto) and his current state of insanity(Fatal)
and why Ai wants to save him. He's terribly broken. I guess that whole part of Ruby just shows us how far he's gone, but like I say over and over, I don't think he would have been this person!!! He could have been a tender father who smiled and raised Ai and his children together, so I want to know WHAT HAPPENED.
#hikaru kamiki#oshi no ko#oshi no theories#oshi no ko spoilers#hikaai#if he had Ai alive in the world(it didn't even have to be her being WITH HIM!!!!) he wouldn't have become like this#so the writers need to come back on him and deliver us the explanation we need about this character!!! it's driving me nuts#because I see this so obviously!!!!#it's cruel and.. a writing full of holes just screaming to be filled#spoilers#ai hoshino#save your man Ai if he could be or you know.. like my comic...deliver him to hell with your hands#he really misses you. he just..could not bear living without you and you aren't obligated to reciprocate that feeling he has#but I feel you loved him dearly as well. you didn't choose the wrong guy. I hope so.. anyhow he does think you're the most precious thing
