NTERESTING B O O K BACKGROUND TIDBIT . My mom and I make a cameo appearance in AN ILLUSION OF CONTROL. . That's right I wrote myself into my own book. It's a minor, minor role, but I'm there, talking to Laine, the main character. . Another bit if I N F O for you: . Ironically, today is the feast day of St. Jude. Ironic because: . ~Today was my class's day to lead Mass so I wrote the introduction based on the feast day. . St. Jude is special to me because: ~ The day after my mom passed away, my dad and family and I went to Mass at St. Jude, the church down the street from the hospital we'd spent two weeks at. ~ He is the patron saint of desperate situations, lost causes, hospitals and hospital workers. ~After my grandma passed away, two or so years after my mom, the one prayer card I found in her bible I took from her house was St. Jude's. ~Laine, the character in AN ILLUSION OF CONTROL is tasked with finding a prayer card for her mom, though they are not religious, and it's St. Jude's. She prays it without understanding prayer for a friend she meets who is facing a desperate situation. . When I planned my class's Mass and sat through Fr. Jim's homily this morning as he spoke about St. Jude, I couldn't get over how coincidental it was that it was this week, that after five years of waiting to release this griefy novel of mine, we remember Jesus's apostle, St. Jude. . Four monarch caterpillars (and a few others) on the last stand of milkweed leaves on the last milkweed plant. They took this down by half so far today. I have one additional caterpillar on a plant I found yesterday which I am hoping is another milkweed variant, but while he hasn't crawled off it yet, he hasn't committed to eating, either. 🦋🐛 I am going to a place with milkweed tonight and hope to grab some for this next few days.
