feat. miko, kazuha, ningguang, thoma, lisa ( separate )
𝐈𝐍 𝐖𝐇𝐈𝐂𝐇 they are so obviously in love with you
( or, in which i tie them to a taylor song i’ve been crazing over, but you don’t have to listen or know the songs to read / understand )
note. reader’s gender unspecified, implication of sexual intimacy ( for miko, the others do not have this )

YAE MIKO. false god
Her affections stemmed from a sort of sightless faith.
When she leans back downwards, pink strands all messily cascading down her shoulders, she plants the lightest of kisses on the bare stomach of your laying form. But you could tell such a small act was still the most holy of worships, almost as if she was kissing the ground of a path to an alter.
“You were so divine,” she whispers, lips plump against your skin. And it feels like sin, almost, to have the Yae Guuji speak to you as if communion was melting on her tongue. “I wonder what God I pleased to ever deserve you…” It a mumble that’s so casually said, one that is only spoken between divinity and its loyal follower.
And said loyalty was etched into her name, truly, coursing through the way her fingers traced along your hips. They were gentle, almost akin to worship.
You were no God. And yet, there was a blind faith in her eyes that swore to the Heavens about the things she would do for you—to wait centuries, to topple down Celestia, to defy the Gods themselves, all for you. But was faith really blind, when the taste of religion danced upon the lines of her lips?
You may be no God, but you were her only diety. Oh, how the real Gods of this world were probably glaring down on you now—to see the Grand Narukami shrine maiden laying atop your body in a manner of worship that was only meant for sanctity. A manner so sacred, one that she should only show to the reigning Celestia and never to you.
But when she loves you more than the Gods, you might just get away with it.

KAEDEHARA KAZUHA. cornelia street
He met you at sea, a Liyuen shipmate on the carefree Crux.
Carefree: He’d say that word was a great way to describe you. You were like the ocean, so unbelievably unpredictable and characteristically carefree. He swore he saw the serenity of the sea in your spirits—and when he introduced himself with a mere ‘Hello, I’m Kazuha,’ your smile in return may have haunted him for an eternity that the God of Electro could not even dare to recreate.
Kazuha grows to love the sea at the same time he grows to love you. Wishing waters practically spell out your name, and he thinks of you in a way that harmonizes to the nature of this world.
Such harmony proved to be naive, however, on one trip where Beidou sadly proclaimed you were not on this journey, and he felt sick to his stomach. It was the first time he got seasick. It was the first time ever since he step foot out of Inazuma that he felt so drearily dizzy, and it was when you were not there.
The ocean felt lonesome, he felt incomplete. And being surrounded by its ferocious vastness felt so scarily suffocating that even the sounds of waves would haunt him in his sleep.
Then it was quite telling, truly, when the moment he docked onshore, the light of your eyes greeting him with the crinkling scent of the sea came to cure his feverish feelings. He was well again, suddenly the waves felt so kind—and perhaps that was when he realized that harmony was a silly ideal; you are the ocean itself to him. Love so powerful, so beautiful, and yet so calming: his love for both was a bind he could never break.
And if he ever lost you, he’d never set sail again.

NINGGUANG. paper rings
Kiss her once and take her to an high-end dinner, kiss her twice with a diamond ring, three times if you book the most expensive wedding in Teyvat.
That’s what she expected from the thoughtless men and cheap women of this world. Because she liked shiny things, and diamonds were a girl’s best friend. Only price tags for a woman so bejeweled—only luxury for the leading lady of a nation. But when it was you… Oh, when it was you…
In plastic gifts, in picture frames, in paper rings, you were still the one she wanted. Several times, she’s been offered the most dazzling a of rings by businessmen and high class women for a life of luxury. And yet, the one time you jokingly folded her a little paper origami ring that was too big for her finger, she felt her heart flutter in ways that could only be described in poetry written by hopeless romantics.
She wore it for the day, even taping it down to be tighter on her wedding finger. She was even sad when the paper eventually ripped, as if this ring held more value than any other ring she was ever offered. Rings that cost millions, rings that were dug up from the deepest and most dangerous mining sites of Teyvat—still beat by a ring made from thin paper.
The entirety of riches and the entirety of the elite, all forever beat by her simple lover who gave simple gifts.
But she didn’t mind. If you got down on one knee now and proposed to her with another paper ring and the most modest of smiles on your face, she would say yes even quicker than a heartbeat. Her heart would flutter, her mind would blank, her body would break down into the happiest of sobs until she’s sinking into your arms.
If another person proposed to her now with promises much more expensive than yours—promises that would fulfill the dreams of wealth from her childhood—she knows she would say no, it was more than obvious to her now.
She wants all of you. All your companionship, your complications, your confessions; Because in her values, they were all priceless.
⎯ ✧ ⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯
THOMA. gold rush
What must it be like to grow up consciously carefree?
What must it be like to grow up so beautiful, that you could have all of Inazuma trailing your footsteps for just a glance? To have both Kamisatos eyeing you, to be so carelessly happy even under the scrutinizing eyes of the elites—as if not even threats of losing your nobility could stop you from being such a fun-loving person. And even if you had pressure like that, you were still rolling as life went on, still with a smile that he so adored—
Thoma just slapped himself back into the real world.
Adoration? For someone so beautiful and so out of his reach? Really? He grumbled some scoldings to himself as he held the broomstick in one hand and his stinging cheek in the other.
He had such a stupid mind for daydreaming of such things; in fact, these thoughts weren’t even the worse of his colorful collection. Sometimes he’d think about what it would be like to actually be in love with you.
But they were such nice thoughts, really. Just the idea that he would get to see someone so gorgeous every day. He could imagine himself cooking up meals with all his love, taking care of your things just for you to return to him after your busy meetings to his adoring arms. And he’d do it all, really, anything to allow you to continue being so happy and so healthy while still remaining an Inazuman noble.
He just slapped himself again.
Who was he kidding? He didn’t have even the slightest of chances, not when everyone loved you, not when everyone wanted to be with you, and certainly not when everyone who admired you was at a better standing of nobility than he was.
You’re so easy to love… But he’s so easy to forget.
⎯ ✧ ⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯
LISA MINCI. tolerate it
If your life was one of the books in this Favonius library, then perhaps she would only be a footnote on some random page in the middle.
Perhaps she should be glad at how aware she is, but the sense of awareness only made her more frustrated than before. Because awareness meant that she knew her place in your life ( or, the lack thereof ), and knowing her place meant that she willingly ignored all the signs that pointed her to turn away.
Your friendly smiles, your distracted looks, your mild toleration: they should have been enough to tell her you weren’t interested. You only smile at her as a friend, you look distracted when she speaks to you, and your toleration was probably the worse of all.
Toleration meant you’d continue to overlook her; Toleration meant that all these advances she made were fruitless. It would mean that every favor she did for you like a little library servant was just a waste of her time.
And yet, she still did them. She still delivered all the books you requested right to your study table in the library, plus even more books related to your topic. She still told you all the information she knew on details you requested, even if they took hours to explain. Worse, she still adored you enough to pipe up every time you called her name, just happy to hear it.
But maybe you were like Jean, and maybe you were like the rest of them—you just thought she was lazy. Maybe all these acts of services were just seen to you as a part of her job instead of sleeping during her hours all day. Perhaps it isn’t as big of a deal to you like it is to her.
Because when all you give her is a little friendly smile after she exerts her love and time to you, she feels defeated even more.

Put A Ring On It
Fandom: Primeval
Pairing: Connor Temple x Abby Maitland
Content warnings: spoilers for Primeval, brief mentions of injuries received in the past, brief mentions of their Cretaceous stay
Word count:1,217
Connor Temple stood in a jewelry store, absolutely lost.
Well, he knew exactly where he was- and when he was-, so he wasn’t lost in a physical or temporal sense. No, maybe ‘at a loss’ was a better way of phrasing it.
Three weeks ago, in a brief lull in activity following the closure of the New Dawn anomaly, Abigail Sarah Maitland had proposed to him. She hadn’t gotten down on one knee or pulled out a ring or anything traditional (to be fair, she wasn’t a very traditional person), and it hadn’t been how he’d intended to propose to her one day, but looking back it was absolutely perfect. In the three weeks since, starting just a few minutes later with the call out to the train station, they’d barely had enough time to stop just to sleep or eat. The car rides between the ARC and anomaly sites usually led to everyone but the drivers nodding off in their bucket seats, and if they were close enough to a fast food joint, or stuck in traffic long enough to do it, someone would leave the others and collect food for everyone.
And thanks to all that chaos and busyness, there had been no time to get Abby a ring.
That realization had led Connor here.
The problem was getting something nice while not clashing with Abby’s tastes or work requirements. She wasn’t one for gaudy jewelry (or much jewelry at all, really), and her flashy and eye-catching tastes had mellowed a bit. Anything with a big stone would only get in the way or get ruined with her hands-on and typically gross work (read: menagerie work).
Before him was a seemingly endless plethora of options. Gold rings, silver rings, rose gold rings, platinum and white gold rings. Diamonds, colorful birthstones, onyxes, moonstones and opals. Different carats, different cuts, different settings, different bands. It was a little overwhelming for Connor, who’d never worn any real jewelry but the cord around his neck from which his mother’s wedding ring hung. Even then, that was sentimental, not fashion.
In the end, he chose a thin, simple band of a metal that looked both silver and gold- electrum, also known as ‘green gold’ even though it wasn’t green. Instead of a stone set onto it, there was one set into it- a small 0.5 carat diamond, its surface level with the upper surface of the ring. That way whenever she put gloves on, it wouldn’t get in the way, or get caught on things during anomaly shouts. It was simple enough to suit her style, but it didn’t look cheap or ugly.
The small velvet cube that contained the ring was stuffed in his hoodie’s front pocket, but out of his nerves that he’d lose it he kept one- if not both- hands in the pocket with it. The only time he took both hands out was to pay for flowers and Chinese takeaway.
Becker had insisted on Jess staying at his flat while she recovered from her albeit minor injuries from the future predators, and even though she had healed from them she still hadn’t gone back to living at her flat. Therefore when Connor got back, Abby was the only one already home. He could hear the shower running, so he knocked on the bathroom door. “I’m back, Abs.” He called through it. “I got Chinese.”
“Sounds great!” She replied. “I’ll be out in ten.”
Connor set the still-warm bag of takeaway on the counter and put the flowers in a vase, remembering to put water in this time, and placed it in the middle of the table once he’d cleared it off. He debated about lighting candles, but decided against it- even a year in the Cretaceous hadn’t made him safe to trust fire with-, instead opening the curtains of Jess’ west-facing windows to let the palette of sunset pour inside. He didn’t bother putting out plates either, as they usually just ate straight out of the cartons. There was no point in going all-out like that when it wasn’t comfortable for them.
A few minutes later, Abby appeared, wearing yoga pants and a too-big tee, her go-to comfy clothes. She looked exhausted, but no less beautiful in his eyes.
He smiled warmly at her, closing the cupboard into which he’d been putting dishes away. “Hey.”
“Hey.” She returned, walking up to him and kissing him. “Thanks for getting dinner; I couldn’t’ve cooked tonight.”
“And we both know better than to let me try again.” He half joked, earning a grin from her.
They sat down to eat, and Connor made it through the egg rolls and halfway through the Sweet and Sour Pork before he couldn’t hold himself back any more. “Abby?”
She looked up from her Moo Goo Gai Pan with a questioning look. “Yeah Con?”
“I- I’m not mad, at all, that you were the one that asked, but there was something I did want to do myself, and I’m sorry I haven’t done it yet, but we’ve been so busy and we’ve hardly had the time to sleep and-”
“Connor.” She gently cut off his apologetic rambling, smiling softly. “What is it?”
He took a deep breath and reached into his pocket, wrapping his fingers around the velvet box. He stood up from his chair, moving around the side of the table to stand beside her chair, where he sank into a kneel. Holding up the box, he said, “I’m not proposing, but… will you take this ring?”
Connor popped it open, and the ring within glowed and shined in the golden and purple light of dusk. She pressed a hand to her mouth in shock, eyes dampening against her will. Truthfully, she hadn’t even thought about a ring; the decision to propose to Connor when and where she had had been an impulsive one that she didn’t regret, but things had been so hectic since that they hadn’t even told anyone- unless Connor had found time to call Duncan, but she doubted he had. To see that he’d found the time and made the effort to get her a ring even though she had proposed to him was unexpected and touching. “Oh, Connor.”
He started to panic. “Do- Do you not like it? I just didn’t think you’d want something big and flashy, it didn’t seem like you, and you don’t wear a lot of colorful stuff when you do wear jewelry-”
She cut him off (again) with a kiss. “It’s perfect.” She assured him honestly. He let out a breath of relief and kissed her again, then took the ring out of the box and held it up alone. She moved her hand forward, slipping the appropriate finger through the ring. It fit properly, making her wonder if he’d chanced a lucky guess or had measured her finger in her sleep (either seemed possible). She held up her hand and admired the ring in the light.
“Now you’ve got a ring, I wonder how long it’ll take for the others to work something out.” Connor commented.
Abby grinned. “I might have to climb onto Lester’s desk and shout ‘look what my fiancé got me’ for them to get it.”
Connor returned her smile. “Your fiancé. I rather like that.”

A couple of these are real:
The Spanish Prisoner - Early version of the Nigerian Prince scam. The Mark is contacted by the Roper, who is pretending to be fabulously wealthy but temporarily unable to access their funds (often due to being in jail.) The goal is to get the Mark to pay bail, or a bribe, or some other expense to get the wealthy "prisoner" out of jail, expecting a payout that isn't coming.
(still shows up in the form of "illegal immigrant wins the lottery and can't collect the money")
The Mona Lisa Variant - Probably a reference to a con artist in the 30s who got six people to pay him to steal the Mona Lisa, then commissioned six forgeries, shipped them where they needed to go, THEN stole the Mona Lisa and just kept the original, thinking that now the word was out about the stolen painting, it would be extremely risky to move it anywhere.
The Fiddle Game - The Roper dresses like a shabby street musician, eats a cheap meal at a restaurant, then forgets his wallet and leaves his violin as collateral while he goes and gets it. A second conman (The Inside Man) comes in and makes a big show out of recognizing the violin as an insanely valuable Stradivarius violin. He'll pay anything you want for it, here's his number, please contact him. Then when the "street musician" comes back in, the Mark (either the owner or another customer) is motivated to try and buy the (worthless) violin off him.
(there's a version of this where the Roper comes in looking for their wedding ring/diamond earring/glass eye, and offers a huge reward for whoever finds it. Later, the Inside Man "finds" the object, and the Mark tries to buy it off him.)
The Big Store - More of a category of con where a group of con men set up an entirely fake business in order to get either money or personal information. (At one point you needed to set up and staff an entire fake physical storefront, now all you need is a fake website.)
The White Van Speakers - The con artist sells cheap speakers at a huge markup out of the back of a van. But the trick is that the Mark is told (or gets the very strong impression) that these are in fact very nice speakers being sold at a huge discount, because they've been stolen.
My favorite leverage bit is when they have agreed on names for cons that they never explain but reference absolutely bonkers bits of. Like. “Yeah I was running a Blue Spiked Fish but then I lost the wig and had to turn it into a Seventh Taco on the fly.” “Where on earth did you get the firefighter uniform??” “Had one in the closet from running a Cicada job earlier that year.” Beautiful. Perfect. They could do this every episode.

When I was in elementary school, 3rd or 4th grade, our school had a little craft bazaar in the cafeteria so we could buy Christmas presents for our families. By then I knew that my mom was very deeply sad. I didn’t know that the sad was mental illness and depression, all I knew was that she was very vocally unhappy about certain specific things. One of the things she complained about relentlessly was that her wedding band was so plain, that she was never given a diamond. I didn’t know why this was so important to her, but I did want very much to fix it for her. There was a booth with what I now know was a bunch of very cheap costume jewelry. But I didn’t know the jewels weren’t real. They looked real to me, and one of the rings was the most beautiful thing I’d ever seen - a replica of a marquis-cut diamond ring. It was just a few dollars, which is an indication of how cheap it was, but I really didn’t know the difference.
I bought the ring and was certain in my heart that this would help my mom not be so sad and angry. I couldn’t do much at that age, but I could do this. I was so excited to buy it, to carry it home and hide it until Christmas morning, to wrap it, and to present it to her.
When she opened it and looked at it, she laughed and said, “Where did you find something so tacky?” She closed the ring box and set it aside. I was broken-hearted that I had failed so miserably. I felt stupid. Years later I was looking through some of her things and found the ring. Yes, it was a very cheap and tacky thing. Still, it hurt that she never once wore it.
Two things about this memory came out in therapy this week. The first was that if one of my daughters had given me this cheap, tacky ring, I would have immediately put it on and likely would have never taken it off. The second was that when she had me think about my little self back then, she asked me to describe what was in my heart when I bought the ring. I could only laugh and say, “It was such a Zoey thing to do.” When my Z was little, it’s absolutely something she would have done. W looked at me and gently said, “I think it was a very Katie thing to do. That tenderness and concern didn’t flow backward in time from a person that didn’t yet exist. It was always in you, and you gifted it to her.”

Fake marriage, snobby mother and booty calls | Dean Winchester x OC
Summary: Awsten’ sister tells their parents she’s married - she isn’t. Dean accepts to play along when her parents comes to visit for dinner
Word count: 1670
Notes: I wrote this for the Christmas bingo I participated back in December but only now got to finish it
-
Dean Winchester wasn't husband material. He liked old cars, 80s rock music, had a bit of a drinking problem and had been in jail. He hated to wear ties, being more of a flannel kind of guy, and always had oil or grease stained hands from fixing cars.
Her mom was going to hate him.
He was also a bit of a ladies man, but that part didn't need to be mentioned at the Christmas gathering.
''Are you sure this is a good idea?’’
''You gotta be there,'' Awsten insisted, looking at Dean over the island countertop where they were having breakfast. ''My sister already told everyone I was married. I would be the family’s laughingstock if I they show up for dinner and there is no man in my apartment after such a big news.''
''I still don't get why you couldn't tell them it was a misunderstanding. Why make things complicated when they were initially simple?''
''Because they're from another generation and won't understand. They won't find it funny that we played the 'just married' card to get free alcohol. Or that we only hook up on the daily.'' The redhead sighed, taking a sip of her hot coffee. ''If Charlie hadn't tagged us on social media, my sister would've never seen the picture and caption...''
Dean reached out, squeezing Awsten’s bare thigh on the bar stool, and looked at her with apologetic eyes. ''Charlie’s really sorry. She didn’t think the picture would get to your family.''
''I know. It’s okay. I made my peace with it. Now, we just have to play pretend.'' She stood, taking her empty plate and putting it in the sink to wash later.
Today was going to be a long day and Awsten was dreading all of it. Having her parents and sister over for Christmas wasn’t part of her December plans. For the last two years, she had escaped the family reunions and had intended to do it again this year. She didn't hate her family, they were just so strict, judgemental and draining to be around.
She'd rather rent a cabin in the mountains with a couple friends - Charlie and Dean included. At least, that promised a lot of fun.
Dean joined her by the sink, doing the same with his dishes.
''Thank you for doing this, Dean.''
As insane as the situation was, Awsten was glad to have someone like Dean. Not everyone would have agreed to partake in her crazy plan and play married couple for the holidays, even for one night. And, he will definitely add some spice to her family's Christmas dinner.
''It was my idea in the first place to get the alcohol. And, I wasn’t going to say no to free turkey.''
Awsten scoffed. ''The turkey might be free, but you are helping me. I’m not gonna do all the hard work by myself, Winchester.''
''I would try to eclipse myself, but since you did most of the work last night, I guess I could help you for today,'' he said as he slid a hand under Awsten's tee shirt to cup one of her cheeks and gave it a small squeeze.
.
After six hours of chopping, whisking and seasoning, the faux-married couple were finally ready to receive Awsten’s family.
The redhead has put a red tablecloth to mask the chips on the wooden table, something that would've definitely not gone unnoticed by her mother, and pulled out the pretty candle set she had received three Christmases ago to decorate the center.
Dean lit up the Christmas tree filled with miscandellous, non-traditional ornaments and hoped no one would point out the missing Christmas crib under the tree. It was somewhere in the storage closet and Awsten didn't feel like fetching it.
As they were setting the table, Dean caught the silver ring on the redhead’s finger. ''Just so you know, I would've never offered you this cheap ass looking ring. My wife deserves something better than a plastic rock.''
Awsten narrowed her eyes. ''I did with what I had and with the time I had, Dean! I couldn't get myself a real wedding ring. Diamonds are hella expensive.''
''You didn’t even get me one.''
''I forgot. But, knowing my family, they won't even notice. They'll be too occupied looking elsewhere,'' she promised.
''You mean my charming smile?''
She glanced at his flannel and stubbles, both red flags in her mother's book. ''Among others.''
It was around six o’clock when the doorbell rang. Awsten smoothed her velvet dress and checked her lipstick in the hallway mirror before opening the door.
''How can you get married and not tell us? I didn't raise you like this,'' her mom asked, skipping the greetings and walking in like it was her own place.
Awsten contained herself, forcing a smile. ''Hello to you too, Mom…''
Richard and Emilie, Awsten’s dad and sister, followed inside, shutting the door behind. They shed peeled off their winter layers and hung them on the overflowing coat hanger.
The elder woman peered into the apartment, looking for the handsome man her daughter had married. ''Now, where is that husband of yours? We didn't make all that travel for nothing.''
''I’m right here, Mrs. Torres,'' Dean replied, coming to the entrance to greet the guests. He kissed both her mom and sister’s cheeks and shook hands with Richard, his politeness surprising the Torres.
Although he had succeeded to impress her with his politeness, Dean didn't earn Cecelia's approval. She gave him an up and down look, disapproval casting itself on her face almost immediately.
''Shall we move to the kitchen? Dinner is ready.''
.
''What's your career, Dean?'' Cecelia asked, attacking him with questions as soon as they sat down around the table.
The redhead gave her mother a dirty look, knowing exactly what she was doing. To most, it looked like Cecelia was being nice and trying to get to know Dean, but she was being a snake and trying to find valid reasons to not like Dean to back herself with when she’ll later confront Awsten.
Dean swallowed his bite before responding. ‘’I'm a mecanicien, ma'am. I work at my uncle's auto-shop.''
''Ah.'' She glanced at her cadet daughter and back to Dean, disapproval in her eyes. ''Are you planning on taking over the business?''
''I love cars, but owning an auto-shop isn’t in my plans for the future.''
''What is, then?''
''Owning a bar. Commercializing my own beer...or whiskey, perhaps. Something along those lines.''
''I assume you are studying business?'' Mr. Torres asked, suddenly taking interest in the conversation, owning himself a business.
Dean shook his head. ''No. I’m not in college, Sir. College isn’t for me.''
''How did you meet?''
''Was it like the movies? Your car broke and he repaired it?'' Emilie asked with a snicker, making fun of her sister.
Awsten glared at her. ''No. We met through Charlie, my roommate. You remember her? She and Dean are long date friends.''
As the dinner progressed, Cecelia’s disdain toward Dean was getting more and more apparent - and she made little efforts to hide her feelings.
''If you'll excuse us, I need a drink. Awsten, darling, will you come help me in the kitchen?'' She flashed Dean a forced, bitter smile and stood, heading to the kitchen for some privacy.
.
''You don't like him.'' taking a glass out of the cabinet to
''With reasons! Have you seen this guy? I don't know what you find in him. He looks like...a lumberjack. You are worth so much more than him, Awsten. Guys like him don't go far in life,'' she said in true Cecelia Torres fashion, always quick to judge others.
''Well, we're already married, Mom. What can you do?''
''Is this why you got married in secret? Because you knew we wouldn't approve.''
An unsurprised laugh left the redhead's lips. ''Of course you would think that… Yes, Mom, I married a guy solely to spite you.'' Awsten poured the strong alcohol in the glass, the amber liquid gliding over the baby Yoda shaped ice cubes. ''Is it so difficult for you to believe that I love Dean? Just because I was raised in high society doesn't mean I wish to follow that kind of life.''
Cecelia huffed. ''You say that now, but you'll change your mind.''
''I doubt it.''
''Did he...force you into this? Marrying him.''
Awsten's eyes widened. She couldn't believe the words that left her mother's mouth. ''I'm leaving. You're being crazy.'' She took the drink she had prepared for her mother and left the kitchen, needing it.
''What about my drink?''
.
''Congratulation, Mom hates you. You’re everything she didn’t want for me.''
''Aw, damn,'' Dean said with sarcasm, helping Awsten clean up. ''I thought I had made a good impression.''
The redhead bit back a smile. ''I’m sorry for how she behaved toward you. For the way she talked about you. She’s insufferable sometimes.''
Dean shook his head. ''Don't apologize for her. I don't care what she says about me.'' He brought the leftovers to the fridge, trying to control his grin at the thought of stealing a tupperware of turkey for his lunch tomorrow. ''And it's not like we really are married - not that I'd care more then.''
''Now you get why I never visit my family. They're all similar variants of my mother.''
''They say family wants the best for you, but it's not always the case. I've stopped caring about others' opinion of me long ago. I can take a snobby mother who believes I forced her daughter into marrying me.''
Awsten stopped washing the plate, her stomach dropping. ''Oh no... You heard that?''
Out of all the disgusting things her mother had said tonight, this took the crown. Awsten had hoped Dean hadn't heard, but the kitchen wasn't very soundproof.
She opened her mouth to apologize once again, but Dean beat her.
''Don't say it.'' He turned around to face the redhead, eyes soft on her. ''She can assume whatever she want of me, but I'm still your main booty call,'' Dean added with a smirk.
''Dean!'' She hit his shoulder at his crude words, holding back a smile.
He shrugged and continued what he was doing.

What is Tungsten Jewelry?
What Is Tungsten Jewelry? And What Is Tungsten Carbide Jewelry?
Tungsten, also known as wolfram, refers to the chemical element, the metal itself. On the periodic table, tungsten is numbered 74 and is known for its hardness, durability, high melting point, high density and is somewhat rare. It is dark gray in color and known for being very difficult to work with. Tungsten is very brittle and not very malleable, making it hard to form into rings or other jewelry designs. As a result, it is often compounded into alloys. Tungsten carbide jewelry is created from an alloy of 80% elemental Tungsten and 20% Carbon alloyed with other metals. Tungsten is exceptionally strong, hypoallergenic, highly scratch-resistant, and tarnish-resistant with a substantial feel in weight.
Tungsten Carbide Jewelry Vs Tungsten Jewelry
The biggest and most important difference between them is that tungsten refers to the individual metal, whereas tungsten carbide is an alloy of tungsten and predominantly carbon, although nickel and titanium are among the other metals that might be used. Some websites and jewelers will use the two interchangeably. In general, Tungsten jewelry is just tungsten carbide jewelry.
Tungsten Jewelry Pros and Cons
Advantages Of Tungsten Jewelry
Tungsten carbide is the most scratch-resistant metal known to man.
Tungsten carbide jewelry is affordable and has a nice weight to it, similar to gold and platinum.
Tungsten rings are quick and easy to remove from your finger in case of a medical emergency — easier than gold.
Tungsten does not bend out of shape due to its hardness, so in an accident, the ring will not become deformed and injure your finger further.
People with allergies to gold jewelry can wear tungsten jewelry because it is naturally hypoallergenic.
Tungsten wedding bands come in a natural gunmetal grey color, but they can be plated in black, white, or even gold colors.
Disadvantages Of Tungsten Jewelry
Just like a diamond, tungsten is very scratch resistant and will not bend out of shape, but it will break if enough shock or pressure is applied to it.
Reputable jewelers and manufacturers will offer a lifetime warranty that covers this by providing a replacement ring in case of accidental breakage.
Due to their hardness, tungsten rings cannot be resized.
Reputable jewelers and manufacturers should provide a lifetime sizing policy to provide for ring size exchanges when your finger size changes.
Tungsten carbide is not easily turned back into cash. Gold is traded on the world’s commodities markets and is very liquid. This means anyone can change gold into cash or gold is just like cash.
Tungsten is not traded and easily valued, so if you want to pawn it someday, that will be difficult.
Tungsten RingsWhat Is A Tungsten Ring?
Tungsten carbide rings are made from the chemical compound tungsten and carbon atoms. Tungsten rings have become a popular ring of choice because of their hardness. It is much harder than diamonds and solid gold rings. It also is 10 times less likely to scratch than any other ring.
Mens Wedding Bands
Black Tungsten Wedding Rings For Men
Tungsten Wedding Bands come in many different colors and styles. Some unique styles include; comfort fit rings, two-toned rings, channel set Diamond Tungsten Bands. They also can be found in three different finishes; satin, matted or brushed finish.
Among them, Black is an excellent color choice for a Men’s Wedding Band. Black Tungsten Carbide results from Tungsten Carbides’ extreme hardness, which is the perfect base metal for physical vapor deposition.
This is the special process from which the exterior of the ring can be permanently changed. This creates a rich, luxurious Black color.
Black Tungsten rings are bold and symbolize strength, courage, and conviction. Black Wedding Bands, along with any other type of Wedding Bands symbolizes a married couple’s commitment to each other a strong bond, and everlasting love for each other.
Tungsten Rings Price And Value
How Much Do Tungsten Carbide Rings Cost?
For retailers or individual consumers, most quality tungsten rings are priced at over $50 dollars — if you are looking for a ring that is priced under $50 dollars then stainless steel or titanium bands may be a better option.
How Much Is A Tungsten Carbide Ring Worth?

Why Do Tungsten Rings Vary in Price?
Main Difference Between Cheap and Expensive Tungsten Rings
Cheap tungsten rings made with Cobalt ( Industrial Grade)-Bad; Expensive Tungsten rings Made with Nickel ( Jewelry Grade)-Good
Cheaper tungsten rings made with cobalt, cobalt is a cheaper filler some ring factories use that to make tungsten rings. So, the tungsten is not jewelry grade, only reaches the industrial grade. Cheaper tungsten rings with cobalt( industrial grade) will tarnish. It will make your finger gray or black. Expensive Tungsten rings Made with Nickel( jewelry grade) Jewelry grade tungsten will NEVER tarnish or haze. So you can enjoy your rings for a long time The tungsten rings with cobalt or nickles may look the same you saw at a ring store or online. But, industrial tungsten rings would take on a dark cast and might have discolored in places after 3–6 months. Industrial tungsten is awesome for other applications, but for fashion jewelry? It isn’t a good choice. Jewelry-grade tungsten carbide rings with nickel will retain their original look and luster for a long time. Nickel might irritate your skin, but the amount of nickel in tungsten alloy is less than 1%. This means that unless you have a severe allergy to it, you wouldn’t even know that it was in there. Cobalt is the only aspect that makes it tarnish. You need something that is jewelry grade, not industrial grade. Jewelry-grade tungsten will NEVER tarnish or haze. Tungsten HAS to be an alloy, as it is far too brittle by itself. Find one with no cobalt, and you should enjoy the piece forever.
The Cost of Selling Tungsten Rings
As far as I know, 80% of tungsten rings on the market are manufactured in China. The tungsten carbide rings manufactured in the USA would cost more than rings made in China, in other words, manufacturing costs are much higher in the USA. They sell for a higher price due to the cost, such a store location, advertising cost, and other costs.
Short Time Warranty/Guarantee VS Lifetime Warranty
Suppose that you purchase a cheaper tungsten ring, but your ring breaks( the chance is slim, but could happen), the time could be a month or a year, or the plating wears off( it could happen), or any bad things that may happen, even you get the best quality of the ring. Can you return the ring? Is there someone you can call for help? Is there some warranty or guarantee? But, if you buy an expensive tungsten ring, you will get a lifetime warranty, you can replace a new one if you break it or your finger grows bigger. You have the right to replace a new tungsten ring for free.
Conclusion: The true value of a tungsten ring depends on how you use it or depends on what kind of services you want to get.
How to Tell if a Ring is a Real Tungsten?
Density Identification Method-Judge from Weight
Today Churinga will tell you some great ways to test the ring. Tungsten is a dense metal and its density is much higher than titanium, stainless steel, or other alloy rings. The very texture when wearing, also in heaving metal feeling. The weight of men’s tungsten bands is about 14g-22g. But, if you feel your tungsten ring is quite lightweight, it might be a fake tungsten ring. We used 3 same-size rings made with different metals. Here are the results.
The first one is made of stainless steel. The weight is: 4.78g
The second one is made of alloy. It is the biggest. The weight is 6.71
The third one is made of jewelry grade-tungsten. The weight is 17.24g
As you can see, rings made of tungsten carbide are much heavier than rings made of other metals. This is a very great way.
Judge from Hardness
The hardness of tungsten is between 8 and 9M( This is the international Mohs hardness standard), close to Natural diamonds( it is10 M).3 times harder than gold, 4 times harder than titanium, and 5 times harder than stainless steel.
Because of their hardness, so the tungsten rings are hardly be scratched. Only the diamond can scratch the tungsten.
Judge from Appearance
In this part, I am going to teach you how to buy a real tungsten ring by its appearance. The real tungsten carbide ring is cold silver in color. ( like a mirror, the effect of the polished surface) But after the polishing process, the tungsten ring has amazing luster and gloss, which shines as a natural diamond does. Moreover, the real tungsten ring is very smooth and flawless.
If the ring surface is a little bit dim or dark, it must not be a real tungsten ring.
Judge by Time
A real tungsten ring will not tarnish or fade and it maintains as polished as new for a long time. (The polish of a real tungsten ring is supposed to last 30 years or more, if you start to notice scratches on it then it is likely not tungsten carbide.)
Why? The tungsten carbide ring is very resistant to wear and corrosion. Daily wearing will not produce oxidation, fading, or skin allergy. If your tungsten rings blacken your finger, you probably get a fake tungsten ring or you might get a tungsten ring made with cobalt.

To clean tungsten carbide jewelry, use a solution of warm water and detergent-free soap with a soft cloth. When not worn, store your tungsten pieces in soft cloth bags or the original box to protect them from the elements of daily exposure.

Deep Heart’s Core: chapter one
here it is, folks, the long-awaited first chapter of deep heart’s core! enjoy!
taglist (please dm, send an ask or leave a comment if you’d like to be added or removed): @tunes-on-a-typewriter
The ocean was a mirror when the S.S. Europa set sail, calm and shining in the midmorning sun. Anna Byrne, her cardigan tied around her waist and a dull lead pencil tucked behind her ear, a cheap notebook in one hand and her battered leather suitcase in the other, was watching the other passengers board. The wind was blowing, and she reached up to make sure her hat stayed on her head. The constant stream of people – newlyweds, families, young women with mink coats and massive diamond engagement rings, floating around in clouds of perfume – was disorienting, but Anna was determined not to lose her way. She wouldn’t let herself fail.
Anna boarded the ship and checked her cabin number. She had done so dozens of times already, and she knew perfectly well what it was, but she couldn’t help checking again. As she was leaning over to pick up her suitcase a man bumped into her and knocked her over. He was young, certainly no older than 25, and blandly handsome, with dark hair, grey eyes and a strong jawline. He seemed like he might be a little drunk (“At ten o’clock in the morning?” Thought Anna), but only enough to make him talk loudly and forget to look where he was going. “I’m terribly sorry,” he said, extending a hand to help Anna back up. She didn’t feel particularly inclined to accept his help, but she didn’t want to be rude so she took his hand and pulled herself up to her full height — only five feet, three inches and much shorter than the man, but she squared her shoulders and looked up at him. “Say, what’s the matter with you?” She asked reproachfully, “Can’t you look where you’re going?” He said nothing, but he did look ashamed, so Anna softened. “I really am sorry,” he said. “Oh, it’s all right,” she replied. Picking up her suitcase, she noticed that the clasp had opened and some of her things had fallen out. “Well isn’t that just great,” she said to herself. She looked around for the young man but he had fled, so she picked up her belongings, brushed some dust off one of her sweaters, and slammed the suitcase shut.
Anna walked quickly down the hall towards her cabin, acutely conscious of the sound of her footsteps. After wandering around the ship for a few minutes, looking for her cabin, she finally found it. She pushed the door open with her hip, still holding the suitcase tightly with both hands to stop it from falling open. Once inside, she dropped all she was carrying and let herself fall backwards onto the bed. She let out a sigh. Her trip wasn’t off to a great start.
A bit further away, in the first class lounge, Margaret Kittredge was bored. The window was open, and the cold sea air made her pull her fur coat closer around her silk-clad shoulders. To her right, her father was reading the newspaper and smoking a cigar. Every few minutes he would give a sort of growl and stroke his mustache. To her left, her mother was gossiping with her friend Mrs. Schuyler and embroidering a cushion with a sentimental motto that Margaret couldn’t quite see. Embroidering cushions had always seemed a rather old-fashioned hobby to Margaret, who wished her mother would take up something that didn’t clutter up the house so much, but at least, she reasoned, Mrs. Kittredge didn’t knit sweaters. The lady in question was not exactly known for her deft fingers. In fact, most of her cushions were downright ugly, but at least one didn’t have to wear them. Margaret turned towards her mother, hoping that her conversation with Mrs. Schuyler would be a source of amusement. Mrs. Schuyler was saying, “… but of course you know he isn’t George Habersham’s son! Not that I blame Amanda for running around, of course… I certainly wouldn’t want to be married to him… but it really is laughable that she thinks she’s being so subtle. I only wish I could figure out who little Georgie’s real father is. They say it might be Jim Pierce, but what would anyone want with Amanda Habersham if he was married to Lillian Pierce?” Mrs. Kittredge laughed, as did Mrs. Schuyler. Margaret didn’t. She rather liked Amanda, who was only a year older than she was and with whom she had gone to school, with her easy smile, vivid sense of humor and carefree personality, and considered Lillian Pierce, with her expensive wardrobe and perfectly set hair, to be an insufferable snob. Furthermore, Jim Pierce was a friendly, intelligent man, always ready with a joke, and Margaret didn’t doubt for a minute that he regretted marrying Lillian. Suddenly, Margaret heard Mrs. Schuyler say, “I hear your daughter is to be married, Doreen.” Mrs. Kittredge nodded. “Yes,” she said, “Peggy is engaged to Franklin Abbott. The wedding is in June.” Margaret turned away. She didn’t like to think about her upcoming wedding.
To be sure, she had nothing against her fiancé. He was, in fact, a very friendly, fairly intelligent young man who had let Margaret know as soon as they were engaged that after they were married he had no intention of telling her what to do: “as long as you’re happy, Margaret,” he had said, “I’m happy.” Nonetheless, though Margaret didn’t dislike him – in fact, when she thought about it, she really did like him – she didn’t feel strongly about him in any way, and part of her felt he didn’t feel strongly about her either. Margaret turned back towards her mother and Mrs. Schuyler, feeling confident that they had abandoned the far too respectable topic of her engagement. Mrs. Schuyler was saying, “… But we all know why he’s marrying her so soon, of course… I thought for sure Dinah Eggleston would get him, and of course his family would never have let him marry Jeannie if they weren’t so afraid of the scandal.” Margaret scoffed.
“If you mean that Larry Strong is only marrying Jeannie because she’s pregnant,” she said coolly, “ why don’t you just say it? And incidentally she isn’t.” Mrs. Schuyler looked confused.
“Isn’t what?” she asked.
“Pregnant. It’s a load of nonsense. Larry is marrying her because she’ a lovely person – which could hardly be said of Dinah Eggleston, mind you – and he’s doing it so soon because his father finally agreed to it and he doesn’t want him to change his mind before the wedding.” Mrs. Schuyler looked shocked. “And now,” said Margaret, “I’m going to get something to read before I die of boredom.” She got up and left the room, not without hearing Mrs. Schuyler ask her mother where Peggy had learned to disrespect her elders like that.
On the way to her cabin, Margaret nearly collided with her cousin Lawrence. Lawrence — Larry, to his friends — was something of a black sheep in the Kittredge family. He was handsome, well-read and likeable, but none of the older members of the family — the spinster aunts, the business-minded uncles, and above all Margaret’s formidable grandmother, whom Larry had been living with ever since his parents had died when he was fifteen — had ever really liked him. He was irresponsible, they said. Margaret liked Larry reasonably well, but she had to admit they were right. After all, it was only half past ten in the morning and Larry was already drunk. “Ah! Fair Margaret!” Exclaimed Larry when he noticed his cousin.
“Good morning, Larry.”
“Morning?” Larry asked incredulously, “say, what time is it?” Margaret raised an eyebrow. “It’s half past ten.” Larry’s eyes widened. “Impossible! I could have sworn it was midnight less than an hour ago.”
“Tell me Larry, how many drinks have you had?”
“Counting from when?”
“Last night.” Larry looked thoughtful and tried to count on his fingers, but gave up in disgust.
“Oh, I don’t know. Too many, I suppose. Promise you won’t tell aunt Doreen?” Margaret sighed. “I won’t tell mother, but you had better get back to your cabin before she finds you.” Larry assented and stumbled off towards his cabin.
Margaret wasn’t sure why her parents had agreed to bring Larry along. In fact, she wasn’t sure why Larry wanted to come in the first place. She suspected grandmother Kittredge of orchestrating the whole thing so she could get Larry out of her hair. And no matter how much Doreen Kittredge disliked Larry, she knew better than to talk back to her mother-in-law.
Anna was worried. She was worried that something would happen to her mother and she wouldn’t know until it was too late because she would be in London. She was worried that she would get seasick. She was worried that she wouldn’t do a good enough job with her assignment and she would lose her job at the newspaper. Anna had always been afraid of the editor-in-chief, Mr. McGill, with his bushy eyebrows and tobacco-stained fingers. Mostly, though, she was just worried. That was just Anna’s way. It seemed to her that as long as she could remember there was always something worrying her. The woman sitting next to her, with her five, no, six children, on the other hand, seemed perfectly serene. Anna wondered why this was. Here was a woman with so much she could be worrying about and yet she seemed perfectly calm, and here was Anna, who, when she admitted it to herself, had very little to worry about, but who was continuously anxious. She looked out the window. There were clouds in the sky. Anna worried there would be a storm. The woman with the six children was tapping her on the shoulder. “My husband says supper’s in five minutes,” she said, “would you like us to show you where the dining room is? It’s a little tricky to find.” Anna snapped out of her reverie. The woman was looking slightly concerned. “Are you all right, dear?”
“Yes – yes, of course,” she said quickly, “I’m just fine. Er – what did you just say?”
“I asked if you’d like us to show you where the dining room is.”
“Oh. Yes, thank you.”
“You’re perfectly welcome. I’m Florence Lynch, by the way.”
“Joseph Lynch,” said Julia’s husband from behind her.
“Anna Byrne,” said Anna, “and what are the children’s names?” Julia pointed at her children in turn. “This is Kathleen, she’s eighteen . Here’s Joseph, he’s twelve, Mary, she’s nearly eleven, Paul, he’s eight, Ellen, she’s five, and James, he’s three.” Upon hearing his name, James edged closer to his mother and clutched her hand. “Well,” said Julia, “are you ready? We don’t want to be late.” Anna fell behind the family, grateful that they had approached her. She didn’t know where the dining hall was, and if the Lynches hadn’t offered to show her she knew she would have gotten lost. No, she thought, she didn’t know that. She thought it. It was merely a possibility. She had to stop doing that.
Anna went to dinner with the Lynches and, to her, surprise, had a lovely time. The food was mediocre and the decor frankly depressing. The carpet in the diner hall was a sickly orange color, the walls a dingy greyish white. But her newfound friends were excellent company. Florence turned out to be an extremely well read and cultured woman who was always ready with an interesting fact or observation, and Joseph had the knack of making people laugh. As for the children, Anna soon discovered a kindred spirit in Kathleen, who was only three years younger than she was, and all of the Lynch offspring took after their parents. James, who had seemed so timid and afraid, immediately took a shine to Anna and seemed fascinated by her every move.
As they walked back to the Lynches’ cabin in the cool night air, with the waves lapping gently on the hull, the knot of anxiety in the pit of Anna’s stomach began to unravel. Florence began to sing softly to her children, a lullaby in her native Creole. James was half asleep, his cheek pressed against his mother’s shoulder. Joseph was joking with Kathleen and Joseph Jr., with little Ellen holding tight to his hand. Paul and Mary were playing some sort of counting game. Anna fell back to hear the conversation between Joseph and the two older children. “Anna!” Said Kathleen, choking back laughter, “you gotta help me prove a point to these two dolts.” She gestured towards her father and brother. Anna smiled. She liked Kathleen’s wild sense of humor, her infectious laughter and easygoing personality. She wished she could be like that. “Well, what is it?” she asked. Kathleen started explaining the argument, her father and brother interrupting her to clarify their side of the question. But Anna was only half listening.

Of course Sans wants you to be happy.
He just didn't realize how much it would hurt to watch you be happy with someone else.
Basically Evan Hansen: Can we meet at that place you like, Grillby’s? Got something important to talk about with you. ( ◞・౪・) Sans had given your boyfriend his number before you ever started dating him, as a show of friendship… or acquaintanceship. Because in all the time since then, your boyfriend had never texted or called him. Until today, a few days after that concert you all went to together, with a message that would’ve made Sans piss his pants if he had the physical capability. As always, he kept those emotions to himself and replied with a simple k, to which your boyfriend had responded with a suggestion to meet up at 3 pm, to which Sans responded with another k. He wanted to say fuck you and your kaomoji faces. But he said k instead. Now he was sitting at Grillby’s, his usual turf, his home away from home, yet feeling like he was on trial, about to be called to the stand to testify. He tried to quell his jitters with a fresh, cold bottle of ketchup, but that only worked for him until your boyfriend showed up right on time and folded his tall form to sit on the stool next to Sans’. Sans felt like a little kid next to him. Especially since your boyfriend’s feet actually laid flat against the floor, whereas Sans’ feet dangled and he had to keep them parallel to the floor to prevent his slippers from falling off. “heya,” Sans greeted, keeping his tone neutral as ever. “Hello!” And your goddamn brown noser boyfriend’s tone was as cloying as ever. He was so fucking irritatingly nice. “… So, um. I don’t even know where to start…” “i’d recommend the cheese fries.” “… I mean, where to start talking about what’s going on.” Sans looked away, off in some random direction, rubbing the vertebrae of his neck with his hand. He didn’t realize how much his palms were sweating until he did that. Your boyfriend looked off in the opposite direction, twiddling his thumbs. The conversation had barely started, and it was already unbearably uncomfortable. “uh. just hit me with it, pal,” Sans suggested with a shrug that betrayed nothing of how fucking tense he was right now. “gimme the quickest summary you can.” “Ah. Heheh. Okay, well…” Sans knew the day would come when he heard what he was going to hear next. But he wasn’t expecting it now. He never could’ve been ready for it. “I’ve been saying this since I started dating her, but I think enough time has passed that she won’t think I’m crazy if… I. I’m. I’m going to propose to her!” He grinned like a madman and balled his hands into excited fists, like a little kid shaking in his seat. “There! I told someone! It’s official! It’s happening!” Sans felt like his soul was going to drop straight down into the depths of hell. He knew it was coming someday. Someday soon. But nothing could’ve ever prepared him for it. He felt like his soul was getting crushed like a tin can in a hydraulic press. “awwwh. that’s great news, pal. well, congrats. i’m sure that’ll make her real happy. heh. i always had a feeling about you two.” A feeling he wasn’t proud of. “Ah! Thanks! I just wanted to say… it means so much to have your blessing.” Your boyfriend giggled softly. “Because… I know. Um.” Sans felt sweat on his brow and avoided looking him in the eyes. What did he know? “I know we aren’t very close. The two of us. And, um. We only really know each other through her, never spend any time together without her around. Except for today, of course! But this was just to talk. Um. But. I guess. I wanted to say… I, um—” For the first time, just a little bit of that frustration slipped out, just enough for Sans to mumble, “spit it out, kid.” “S—uhhh. Sorry. I’m just trying to say I don’t… have many friends?” He smiled and blushed and twiddled his thumbs, perfect little goddamn sweet peach that he was. “But I consider you a friend of mine. Just because of how much you’ve done for her. You’ve made her so happy, being her best friend and all, that it’s made me happy by extension, just from… seeing her that happy? And you’ve been so supportive of us. Even though I know it’s annoying being around a couple sometimes. So. Thanks. Friend…?” … Was this asshole seriously going for a fist bump right now? He was actually holding out his fist for a fist bump right now, with a shaky smile on his lips. … Sans gave him a little fist bump of acceptance. “neato.” “So we’re friends?” “yup.” “… Then can I ask you for a favor?” Sans had been stubbornly looking away from him, at anything at all, even the broken jukebox, even as they fistbumped, until now. Now, your boyfriend had earned an intrigued glance in his direction. “… did you wanna be friends just to ask me to do a favor for you?” “N… no. I just thought… well no. They’re unrelated!” This bastard kept twiddling his thumbs so much, Sans just wanted to reach over and wrench his hands apart to make him stop, it was driving him crazy. “… But, um, the favor. It’s important. I think I know what my girlfriend likes. But this is one of the most important things I’ll ever do, and for the first time, it’s something I have to do without her guidance… because. Y’know. Proposal. Supposed to be a surprise. So I want to make sure I have it right. And I thought you’d be a good source for a second opinion.” “… a second opinion on what.” “Oh I’m sorry. I thought I already said. I’m so distracted right now because of—you know. I’m sorry. I want you to help me pick out a ring you think she’ll like!” Oh, wow, fuck you. “And also? I’m preeetty sure she’s going to ask me to make you the best man at our wedding,” he grinned and nudged Sans with his elbow. “Just so you’ve got a heads-up. Maybe us boys can go pick out that ring and a couple of suits in the same trip. What do you say, eh, friend?” Fuck. You. “sounds great.” * * * If there was anything Sans was good at, it was hanging back and letting somebody else take control of a situation, and that was pretty much all he did when he visited the mall with your boyfriend to go shopping for a ring and suits. Much like when the three of you all went to do something together and he got third-wheeled, he ended up standing off to the side and letting your boyfriend just go and do his thing. He, of course, went through ring after ring, bringing them over to Sans and asking him again and again… “Will she like this one?” “Ooh! I think she’d like THIS one better than the last one, don’t you?” “This one’s got little gemstones in her favorite color. But it’s also cheaper. I don’t want her to think I’m being a cheapskate if I get her this one—do you think she’ll think I’m being a cheapskate if I get her this one?” “Because I’m not! I’m really not. I just think she’ll like it—it’s got the colors?—you know what, I shouldn’t risk it. We need to find something that’s expensive AND colorful.” “Okay. Having no trouble finding expensive ones. Just having a bit of trouble with the colorful… component.” “… Maybe we should try the next jewelry store?” Hell, Sans didn’t even have to say anything, this man really knew how to talk himself in circles. Sans just stood there with his arms crossed and occasionally nodded his head yes or no. It had given him a small sense of pride that this boyfriend of yours was coming to him of all people for a second opinion about what you liked, but that went away as soon as he realized that he didn’t have any better input than the rambling your boyfriend was going through on his own. Still, as the kid went on about wanting something both expensive and colorful, both subtle and a bit non-traditional, a thought occurred to him. This wasn’t how it was supposed to go, but… “have you ever heard of soulstone rings?” Sans asked the question kind of jarringly, as the two of them were browsing an entire case of boring plain diamond jewelry. “… Um. No? Tell me about it.” “ah. it’s just this monster thing. a lot of us monsters have our engagement and wedding rings made outta soulstone. it’s like those cheap little mood rings but it’s pretty rare and expensive and instead of simple heat-sensitivity it actually turns the color of your soul. no shit.” You boyfriend didn’t give a shit about looking at those diamond rings anymore. “That’s… that’s amazing! That’s perfect! That’s exactly what I want, yes! Where do I get her one?!” This wasn’t fair. It was supposed to go like this. “… i’ve got one. a hand-me-down from my mom after she passed away. i was s’posed to—y’know what they always say when a ring like that gets passed down to someone’s son. but the thing is i’m never gonna use it, so.” Not anymore. “Oh… Oh, but I couldn’t,” your boyfriend insisted, voice soft and sympathetic. “That ring must be very special to you. I mean, it’s your mother’s, and what about if you meet someone and—” “trust me. trust me. that ain’t happening.” He crossed his arms over his chest, subtly hugging himself, squeezing the ribcage sheltering his crying soul, as if that might make it stop. “i want her to have it.” Fuck. Fuck. He meant to say ‘I want you to have it.’ Luckily, the sentiment came across just the same. Your boyfriend wrapped him in a tight, appreciative hug, lifting him up all the way on to the tips of his toes. “Thank you,” he told him sincerely. “I’ll let her know that you gave us that ring. We both appreciate it. You’re the best, Sans.” “bro. you’re really tall. you’re picking me up off the ground right now. can you just—” He set him back down on his feet. “Right. Sorry.” “’sfine. and you’re welcome. the ring’s in my room. buried in some drawer somewhere. i’ll dig it out tonight, bring it over to ya in the morning.” For now, they had to go pick out those suits. Maybe that was a bit premature, but then, both of them already knew that you were going to say yes. Your boyfriend loved you, and you loved him, and you’d been together for a really long time. You needed each other, wanted to be together forever and were more than prepared to take on that level of commitment. Neither of them doubted any of that. They both knew how this story would end: with a ring on your finger and his, and with Sans cheering along with the rest of the crowd in the background. Only Sans knew about the part where he was going to curl up on his mattress after all that and think about all the times he could’ve changed that ending. All the times he could’ve turned to you and said what he was feeling. All the times he could’ve actually given you one of those love letters he started to write and then furiously threw into the trash tornado because it was too cringey. All the times he could’ve kissed you. But would you have even wanted it the way you wanted your boyfriend? Would you let a little trash-goblin skeleton who fit perfectly into a suit he found in the Target kids’ section kiss you? Probably not. And if you did, it probably would’ve been out of pity, and out of fear that doing otherwise would end the great friendship you had going. Who was he kidding when he thought to himself that he might’ve ever had a chance? He’d looked into your eyes so many times, searching for the expression of someone who felt the same way about him that he felt about you. And he never found it. Not once, not even in your closest moments, like that time you never talked about anymore when you went skinny dipping together, not ever. And that was fine. He was fine. That was what he told himself as he walked back out to the car he’d ended up buying just because you didn’t have a driver’s license and you always wanted him to drive you places in Papyrus’ car, but his little brother was getting annoyed at how often he stole it. He climbed into the driver’s seat with a heavy sigh, relieved of the burden of your boyfriend’s presence, but still weighed down by the small suit folded over his arm and the thought of having to dig out that soulstone ring when he got home. He was fine. Even when the radio started playing a song about needing someone, and feeling like you were shriveling away in their absence. I need my girl I need my girl I’m under the gun again I know I was a 45 percenter then I know I was a lot of things He was fine. Even when tears that he didn’t even realize were building up created cold, thin paths down each of his cheeks. Even when they kept coming, like a drizzle turning to a downpour, so much he needed to blink through them like his eyelids were windshield wipers. He was crying so much he couldn’t blink away the tears fast enough. As soon as one followed the last down his cheek, the next was there to replace it, and even before that, sometimes, yet another would create a new path down next to the trails that were already there. He was a crying mess. He couldn’t stop. He couldn’t see. He couldn’t drive, and he had to pull off into the first parking lot he saw before he caused an accident trying to navigate the road that had turned into a great big conglomeration of water-distorted lights. He ended up parked in front of a pizza place that closed its doors to the public in ten minutes, clutching the suit he’d just bought and crying into it because it was the only immediately available thing to dry the tears and muffle the horrible noises bubbling up from deep inside his chest. But I am good, I am grounded Davey says that I look taller But I can’t get my head around it I keep feeling smaller and smaller I need my girl I need my girl… He was fine. It hurt so much. He had to lie down. He was fine… He reclined his seat all the way back and curled up on his side, fresh new best-man suit still pressed to his face so firmly he felt like he might manage to suffocate himself with it even though he didn’t need to breathe. The funny thing was, no matter how much it ended up hurting him in the end, he still didn’t wish that he’d never fallen in love with you. Because being in love with you was the most amazing feeling in the world. He wished he could’ve stayed in that cocoon of quiet awe and admiration and butterflies in his stomach at 3 in the morning forever. It was realizing that he was in love with you that screwed it all up. He wished he’d never realized he was in love with you. But he wanted to hold on for dear life to that feeling of loving you. He'd never wish that part away. Never.
