Should I be classy and fill the tiny bits of peen with subtle black, or go modern and make it a blatant lightsaber 👀
Finally drawing Pat's cakes today. This comic is gonna get hit with a community warning and I'm already sick 😭

I’d love to see them stream together too, but Charles and others are probably restricted by their contracts and probably wouldn’t be able to go on a team readline stream unfortunately ☹️
Yeah you’re probably right! Would have been nice if F1 organized something similar outside of teams but really glad with the effort TeamRedline put into this. It should be a lot of fun anyway 😁

Barely-shells like gitsh or repl(1) which wrap other commands are a good idea, but when I think about what it would take for that to be something I'd regularly use, I want them as a library or as a bunch of hooks inside a very flexibly programmable shell like zsh (or Emacs' esh-mode).
For one thing, I don't want to realize ahead-of-time that I want to drop into something like gitsh. What actually happens in practice is that I'll type a git command or two already, realize that I'm about to type a few more.
At that point what I really want is to take my current or previous command line, turn it into a template, and enter a mode where my next commands get entered into that template. But I don't want to lose things like my zsh's vi mode for manipulating the command line. I don't want to lose cool features like zsh's `push-line-or-edit`.
This doesn't apply as much if you have gitsh in a tmux pane or separate window that you can just switch to with a keystroke for git commands, but I don't like to do that.
Also, maybe I still want those commands to be logged as part of my shell's history (though I'm also a big believer that shells and REPLs should ideally outsource history management to some library/program which the user can swap, see f.e. Atuin for shell history as a database with optional cloud sync). Maybe I want full ability to expand variables or substitute the output of other shell commands, to do pipes or redirections, and so on.
repl(1) strikes me as a good case study of the limitations of designing this as a standalone program (not so much program-vs-library and more that we call it directly rather than though our shell's line editor's hook functions): sure it uses libreadline so it's pretty good, but it's a separate instance of readline than the one in your shell so it can't easily integrate that configuration/history/state, and you are stuck with the choice of readline rather than your preferred terminal line-editing library (zsh's zle certainly beats readline, but for the fact that it's not really factored in a way that makes it easy to reuse outside of zsh).
So I think eventually I'd like to find or implement something like repl(1) as a zsh plugin/widget/config (or as something that can be easily called by a shell like zsh to implement the same).
