The Summer Book (Finland)
The Summer Book (Finland)
I did not think that with COVID-19 I would be able to keep reading around the world. The libraries here are closed and it is hard to get books from other countries unless it is through the library system. I am on Litsy and there is a book group called #LMPBC that I have been doing for 2 years now. This last round, #LMPBC is done is rounds, was novellas or short stories. One of the books that was…

World tour through books: Afghanistan
Latest book review:
A society and its women Not too long ago, a friend, hearing about the current situation in my country, turned towards me and told me, point blank “You know, I tend to complain a lot about my country but when I think about yours, I always feel better because at least we don’t have it half as bad as you guys do”. I remember looking at her, perplexed, unsure whether I should be offended or simply…

🍁 ¡Hola, hola! Do you  like sports? For my monthly reading challenge, this month I had to read about Argentina, I read Lobozina, but I also wanted a book set in Argentina and chose Furia, a contemporary YA novel.⠀ ⠀ Is there something you love to do and want to live off of that? Camila dreams of being a soccer player and she is very good, the problem is that it's a secret, nobody in her family knows it, they are very traditionalists, and soccer is for boys. I liked Camilla, she knows what she wants and goes for it, despite not having family support and not having the financial resources or contacts, she knows that by working hard she can obtain a sponsorship and be able to play professionally.⠀ ⠀ Its a realistic story, it touches on issues such as discrimination, sexism, dysfunctional families, but there are also good things like female solidarity, nothing more beautiful than women supporting each other and seeing someone fulfill their dreams.⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ 🌏 #readaboutworld Book Challenge (2021) September Country⠀⠀⠀ Setting: Rosario, Argentina, 2020⠀ Book Data: Furia, Yamile Saied Mendez, YA Contemporary, 2020⠀ #readaboutworld#readtheworld#readingaroundtheworld#worldreadingchallenge#readingtheworld⠀⠀ (en Rosario - Argentina) https://www.instagram.com/p/CUP5SrUlcel/?utm_medium=tumblr

The Inspiration
Got to love TEDTalks. They are always a source of inspiration. Ms. Ann Morgan embarked on a year of reading the world. She reached out to people in other countries for recommendations and read at least one book from each of the 196 UN-recognized countries around the globe. Not an avid reader myself but vastly curious about the world, especially cultures that I did not grow up and/or unfamiliar with, I decide to sample some books from her list: http://ayearofreadingtheworld.com/thelist/. Whether I will eventually get through all the books is a big "if" but it would be nice to see where I get to or where this project gets me.

Daba's Travels from Ouadda to Bangui by Makombo Bambote Central African Republic
Daba’s Travels from Ouadda to Bangui by Makombo Bambote Central African Republic
Tumblr media
Daba’s Travels from Ouadda to Bangui was written by Makombo Bambote and translated from French by John Buchanan-Brown.  There is not going to be a link to this book as I have not been able to find one.
This book is adorable. Daba leaves his village to go live in a town where he can get schooling. There he makes friends, enemies, and starts to learn skills that he needs to grow up.
This is an…
