𝕢𝕦𝕚𝕖𝕥 𝕕𝕒𝕪𝕤 || 𝐝𝐚𝐫𝐲𝐥 𝐝𝐢𝐱𝐨𝐧
the walking dead — daryl dixon x black, female oc
He had come to me trembling, soaked head to toe due to the heavy downpour indicating the beginning of autumn. His gaze quivered as soon as his eyes landed on mine once I had opened my door. Without even an uttering breath I stepped aside and he immediately bolted to my single bathroom.
This was our usual routine.
Daryl tended to come to my apartment, battered and broken and ashamed, a few days out of the month. Never speaking a word to each other before or after he winds up at my doorstep with pleading glances.
In this way, I’m sure my attraction was clear…my affections obvious.
And, yet, in this way, I’m sure he remained oblivious with betrayal in his heart. Daryl was a cold-hearted bastard—and his indifference towards me (towards our friends) was rightfully earned.
I sigh as I gathered some of the spare clothes I had bought him after he found himself sleeping on my couch for four days with a black eye and fresh whipping scars on his back. It truly bewilders me how he hadn’t slept on his stomach that entire time.
Soon enough I heard the distinct sound of running water from the shower head and knew it was time to replace his dirty clothes from off the sink counter with fresh ones. Tossing the wet clothing in my washer I waltz into the kitchen to make him a quick meal.
Daryl wasn’t picky, quite the opposite, actually, but when he is here, I want to make sure he eats better than he has since his last thrashing of my apartment. Therefore, I made him some fried salmon and homemade fries.
“Hey,” his voice was gruff and strained.
I look up at him as I finish setting the table and instant regret churns in my stomach. His wet brown hair was shaggy and clung to his skin, his bangs slicked back from the many times he had ran his fingers through them, his crystal blue eyes were a stark contrast to his pale skin and harbored a tired inclination. His black t-shirt and plain sweats fitted him well and damn near ignited the feral teenager in me.
I blink and turn my head away. It took everything in me to not keep staring. “Hey,” I cough.
We take a seat at the dining table and I tie up my box braids before saying a quick prayer and digging into my food. Though, in the corner of my eye, I can see Daryl picking at his plate with a deep frown and furrowed brows. I took this moment to study him before becoming irritated myself.
Today he had come to me with scars on his arms and a deep cut on his forehead.
And it wasn’t long before his overthinking began to cause him to tremor. At the realization that he was about to snap (as he’s done so many times before) I abruptly stand and rush to his side. I wrap my arms around him and pull him in close to me. “You’re safe here,” I mumble. Daryl gives a wavering breath before he’s pulling at my hoodie and crying into my arm.
It’s moments like these that I cherish the most.
Though, I’d prefer he’d come to me unharmed, cocky and a cigarette dangling between his lips, I’m grateful for these times of vulnerability between him and I. It’s the only time he shows that he trusts me with his heart.
I’m truly grateful for these quiet days of ours.
Hopefully, some day, these quiet days become distant memories in our lives tangled in each other’s sheets, basking in his contagious laughter and butterfly-inducing smile.

Your hands shook as you filled two glasses with whiskey. Daryl would be over any minute. You had this date planned all week. Daryl was typically pretty busy with his bike or recruiting with Aaron, but he always made time for you when he could. Neither of you ever put a label to it -- boyfriend, girlfriend, partners, lovers -- it was all the same and those words never uttered from either of your lips. It just was what it was, and it made you both happy, whatever that meant. You did, however, often wonder what you really were to him. You liked to think he'd always choose you, but how could you know? You never would, not until it came down to an issue where you were a choice over something else.
You replayed your conversation with Rosita in your head all day, pacing nervously in your shared home with Rosita and Tara as you tried to rationalize how you would move forward with this newfound information.
"So, spill! How is it with Daryl?" Rosita asked curiously, drawing out Daryl's name with a sultry, mocking tone.
"Oh, things are good! He's coming over tonight, actually." You smiled softly to yourself.
"No, dummy!" She giggled, slapping your arm playfully. "I mean in bed! Is he rough? Tender? Does he have any weird fetishes? Is he a boob guy or an ass guy? I peg him for an ass guy but I could be wrong."
"Uh -- What?" You were stunned? In bed? You really never thought about that.
"Come on, don't be greedy! Share the details!" Rosita practically begged.
"Details.. Right. Well, there aren't any, really." You said slowly.
"What?" She gasped. "Don't tell me he's the vanilla missionary type."
"Vanilla what? No, I just mean we haven't really.."
"You haven't had sex?!" She gawked at you. "(Y/N), stop right now."
        "Is that a bad thing?"
"Men have needs, (Y/N). And so do we! It's the end of the world!" She shook your shoulders. "You gotta get your rocks off!"
Rocks off? What did that even mean? You weren't really that much younger than him. You were twenty when the dead began to roam the earth. But, you were a virgin then, and you were still one now. You never liked anyone enough to get so vulnerable with them. You heard the rumors at school when girls would give it up 'too easily,' or when the guys at your jobs would be snickering about a girl they slept with. What her boobs were like, how she sounded, all the flaws they found with her body. You just thought it would be so foolish to put yourself out there like that, to be one of those girls they were talking about. How could you ever trust someone enough to see and feel every part of you after all of that?
It wasn't that you didn't get turned on. You did, as much as anyone else. You  just took care of yourself. Plus, it wasn't like the apocalypse provided many opportunities for your first time.. Or did it? Had you been missing signals? Passing by your chances to get naked with someone? Did he even want that? How would you approach it?
A knock at the door yanked you out of your thoughts. Oh god, was he there already? Was it time to get your rocks off?
"Hey!" You grinned anxiously at Daryl as you swung the door open. He noticed your nerves right away. He raised an eyebrow.
        "Hey." He greeted. "Y'alright?"
"Huh? Oh! Yeah." You waved him off.
"Well, uh, can I come in?" He asked. You realized you were standing there, blocking his entry, which you never did. You always threw the door open and walked away, allowing him to enter on his own accord and make himself comfortable. You internally facepalmed.
"Oh, duh." You chuckled as you stepped aside and shut the door behind him. "I poured us some drinks."
"Cool." He nodded, stepping over to the table where two equally filled glasses stood waiting. He grabbed one and took a sip.
You glanced him over. Clean clothes, no sweaty smell; he bathed for you. His eyes scanned you just as quick. He was a little surprised at your dress. It wasn't extravagant, just a floral sundress that fit you in all the right places, but you never wore dresses unless Rosita and Tara forced you for an event. You were more of a jeans and a tee kind of gal.
        "Pretty dress." He complimented.
"Thanks." You blushed, smoothing your hands over it.
"Rosita make ya wear that for me?" He wondered as he took another sip.
"Oh! No. I just-- Uh.." You stuttered. God, why were you so nervous? He had to know something was up. You never struggled to talk to him. He was you dearest companion.
"Just wanted to look pretty for me." He concluded with a smirk. Your face felt like it was melting right off the bone.
You chuckled nervously and grabbed your own glass, taking a gulp, hoping to calm your nerves.
"Sure you're alright?" He asked again.
"Mm-hm!" You hummed with an eager nod. "I'm fine!"
He shook his head and swirled the liquid around in his glass.
"You, uh.. Find us a movie for tonight?"
"A movie..? Oh! Right! Yes." You hurried over to the coffee table where a copy of School of Rock sat idly. "Do you like Jack Black?"
"Mm-mm." He shrugged. "Think I've seen his stuff before."
"Oh! He's funny. My brother used to watch all of his movies. Did you know he had a band?" You rambled.
"Nah." He shook his head. "Didn't know."
"It started with a T I think. I can't remember what they were called." You went on as you bent over to set the disc in the tray and get the movie ready. When you turned around you nearly dropped your glass. He was standing right behind you. "Oh.." You breathed. "You scared me."
She studied your every feature, trying to figure you out. You were never a mystery to him. He liked that. You never seemed to be keeping anything from him, never had an ulterior motive. You were always a raw person. He never had to try and decipher you like he felt he had to with most girls he liked in the past.
"Why you actin' weird?" He asked in a low husk.
        "Weird?" You squeaked. "I'm not--"
"Ya are." He argued. "Real weird. And you never wear dresses."
        "I do wear dresses sometimes--"
"Only when someone makes ya.You don't ever gotta dress up for me. Ya know that."
        "W-- I know, I just.."
"Then why?" He catechized you mercilessly. Your knees felt weak under the weight of this burden of nerves and unsureness.
"I just..." You were at a loss. How could you play this off? You decided to try your best with whatever your brain could muster for an excuse. You straightened up and crossed your arms. "I just thought it'd be nice to look good for you, Daryl Dixon. Is that a problem?"
He smirked a little, finding amusement in your sad excuse for confidence. He shook his head. "Nah, no problem at all."
"Good. Now, excuse me so I can get out movie started."
----
About a half hour into the movie and you were still imploding. Was it time to make the move? How could you do that when you couldn't even bare to look at him? Hell, you two had never even kissed. You just... Watched movies, sat close enough to be touching, snuck off on forest strolls, you know, normal things. Or was that not normal? Were you supposed to have initiated something more by now?
He had been sneaking little glances at you the whole time, registering your faint expressions of worry. What was on your mind that had you so riled up? Had he done something? He doubted it. So what was it?
His arm that was outstretched on the back of the couch behind you twitched a little. He moved to play with your hair but you stood up abruptly. "I gotta go to the bathroom. Be right back."
You sped off to the upstairs bathroom and looked in the mirror. Your internal battles were written all over your face. He had to know something was up. Actually, you knew he did, because he asked you what was wrong like three times before the movie began. Shit, what now?
You took a breath and splashed some cold water over your face in efforts to ground yourself, patting it dry with a hand towel. Okay, (Y/N). It's time. Get over your fears and just make the move. As soon as you figure out what the move is, anyways.
Maybe you could just kiss him and he'd initiate the rest. That's how it works in the movies sometimes, right? Right. Exactly. You got this. Just go down there, and kiss him. No questions asked.
So, you marched down the stairs, strode to the couch, and froze, staring down at him with wide eyes as he sat there with a questioning gaze. Shit, what were you doing again?
"Everything alright?" He finally broke the silence that was somehow louder than the audio from the movie.
"What?" You asked, stunned, forgetting you had just stomped all the way down stairs and right over to him and then froze, blocking his view of the movie. "Oh, uh--"
He stood up just then, piercing blue eyes beaming into you.
"Y'gon' tell me what the hell's got your panties all in a wad or what?" He asked impatiently. "You're freakin' me out."
"I am?" You mumbled. "I just.."
Oh, screw it. You're backed into a corner, now. You only have one option. As quick as you could, you tippy-toed up and pecked him on the lips. You face turned red immediately. A small, amused smile crept up at the corners of his lips.
"All that just to kiss me?" He chuckled. "Didn't have to dress up for that."
"What? Uh -- Oh. Well, I.." You stumbled and tripped over your thoughts. It wasn't just to kiss him, and his reaction was not what you anticipated. Where was the movie moment? The fireworks and explosions? Wasn't he supposed to grab you by the cheeks and kiss you passionately and carry you to bed? What the hell?
"Ya what? Were ya that nervous? Thought I'd bite or somethin'?" He joked.
Bite? Is that a sex thing?
It was all too much. You were in way over your head. You had no idea how this was supposed to work. You felt nauseous, your face was numb, and suddenly you felt it rising from your gut to your throat. Was it vomit? Yes, but not the material kind.
`        "Rosita said we should have sex!"You blurted, eyes wide like saucers as you slapped your hand over your mouth to keep anything else from escaping.
        Word vomit.
Daryl was stunned completely. It took him a minute to process what you had said. He blinked.
"Rosita said what?" He shook his head, furrowing his eyebrows. "Don't listen to that. Don't gotta do that  just 'cause she said. We can do that when ya want to, not when someone tells ya."
He turned around and took his empty glass back to the kitchen, shaking his head and trying not to laugh. It was admittedly adorable that the thought of going to bed with him would mess you up so bad all night.
You were still frozen solid with your hand over your mouth as he grabbed the bottle of whisky. You dropped your hand to your side and looked around for your glass. You picked it up off the coffee table and gulped down the last half of it. Just as he was starting to pour is second serving, you spoke up.
        "I do want to."
He paused, peering up at you through his eyelashes without actually moving his head up to show you his face. He set the bottle down and thought for a moment.
"Uh, sex -- I mean." You clarified. Again, he tried not to laugh. There was no need for clarification. His deductive reasoning was very much adequate to handle such a statement.
He shook his head and poured his glass before he walked back over to you.
"Do ya now?" He asked quietly, eyeing you intensely as he took a swig. You swallowed a lump in your throat. Why did you feel so dry all of a sudden? He seemed to read your mind as he offered you a sip from his glass, which you gladly took.
"I do." You said unsteadily, failing to feign confidence.
        "Ya sure?"
"Why wouldn't I be?" You raised a brow, crossing your arms. He took the glass out of your hand and set it on the coffee table.
        "Ya been drinkin'."
        "I'm not drunk."
"But it wasn't your idea to begin with." He pointed out. "Le'me ask ya.. If Rosita never said nothin', would ya even be considerin' this right now?"
You didn't respond. He had a point.
"Exactly." He confirmed, brushing a strand of hair behind your ear. "We don't gotta rush into nothin' like that."
"I've thought about it." You blurted. Blurting was quickly becoming a habit of yours, you were learning. You gulped.
"Have ya now?" He smirked. He knew that already. Of course you did, just like he had plenty of times. You were both adults with desires. He wasn't blind to that.
"Uh-huh." You nodded slowly. "Every time I--"
Your hand slapped over your mouth again. What were you doing? Were you really about to admit that you fantasized about him every time you touched yourself?
"Every time ya what?" He raised his eyebrows tauntingly. "Played with yourself? That's okay." He shrugged. "Everybody does that and if they say they don't, they're lyin'. What're you supposed to think about? Ya supposed to count the cracks in the ceilin' or somethin?"
While he enjoyed the way you squirmed under the pressure of this conversation, he still wanted to make light of it. He joked to make it easier for you.
"Do you think about it?" You asked quietly. His face lit up a little. It was much more amusing when the spotlight was on you.
"I mean," he shrugged. "What else would I think about?"
You blushed. He thinks about you when he touches himself too?
"I dunno.." You shrugged sheepishly. "I just..." You realized how foolish and childlike you must have looked to him right there. You straightened up and held your head high. "Well, I want to."
"I don't think ya mean that."
        "I do." You insisted.
He looked you over. He definitely wasn't opposed to the idea, but he was nervous. He had no idea what kind of experience a pretty girl like you would have over his drunken one nighters and failed attempts at relationships in the past. You never told him you were a virgin. After all, it never came up.
"Okay." He nodded. "Wha'd'ya wanna do, then?"
        You faltered. What?
        "What?"
"Wha'd'ya wanna do?" He asked again.
"Uh..." You glanced around the room. What did he mean? How many ways were there to... What? "I wanna... have.. sex?" You said, more as a question than a definitive.
"Uh-huh. But there's lots o' ways to have sex."
He plopped back down on the couch, glancing at the movie credits rolling behind you. He had a feeling you'd back out when you realized that you were in over your head.
"Um, I want to..." You waded through the marshy wetland of thoughts and memories inside your head, trying to recall every piece of erotic information you had ever known. What was it Rosita had said? "Vanilla missionary?"
He stifled a laugh. "Oh yeah? That's all?"
Well, shit, man. What the hell else did he want from you?"
        "And..." You trailed off.
"Y'ain't ready for all that yet." He spoke up for you.
        "I am too!"
"No, y'ain't." He shook his head, still clearly amused.
"I am! I just.... I need you to teach me." You said.
        "Teach ya what?"
"I'm... I'm a virgin." You said just above a whisper. Wow, that was embarrassing to say out loud. He nearly choked. He was not expecting that. At least it meant you wouldn't have high expectations that he couldn't meet or something.
        "Really?"
"Yeah." You nodded. "But, I'm an adult and I know what I want. So, show me." You demanded.
----
After a long battle to get him there, you finally had him in  your room. Both of you just standing there awkwardly in the dim light of a small lamp beside your bed.
        "So." You began.
"Mm." He hummed, stepping closer to you, running a finger over your shoulder to brush  the hair off of it.
"Do you... Wanna kiss me?" You asked. A small smile just barely spread on his lips. Of course he did. He just hoped he could make it as tender and special as you deserved.
He leaned in slowly and brushed his lips against yours, hovering there for a moment before he connected with them fully. Slow, sweet rhythm was what he aimed for. He wasn't sure how he was doing, but when he went to pull back and you followed him like a magnet, he figured he was doing okay.
He kissed you a little longer, hands resting gently on your sides to keep you steady as you swooned for him. If he hadn't been so sure he had to be the lead in this whole scenario, he would have melted into a puddle. Your lips were so soft, and you were just so damn sweet. He loved how eager you were for him. He just couldn't imagine taking advantage of you, which was why he made you walk in a straight line before he brought you up to your room. Just in case you had more to drink than he thought.
When he pulled away for real this time, you were desperate for more.
"Why'd you stop?" You pouted under your breath. He let out a soft chuckle.
"All in time, darlin'." He said as he guided you back to the bed. The back of your knees hit the mattress and you sat down.
"Now what?" You asked. He considered your question.
"Lay down." He instructed softly.  You did.
He crawled over you. Your heart began to pound. Was this it?
He leaned down into your neck and started planting small kisses along the length of it. You gasped quietly. It tickled in the best way. Your hands naturally gravitated to his chest, resting them against him. He trailed his lips down to your collarbone as his finger slid the spaghetti strap of your dress down over your shoulder to keep it out of the way. His kisses lined over your collarbone and all over your chest, at least the upper half. You laid your hands on his shoulders.
He hadn't even touched you anywhere significant but your panties were absolutely soaked. Your eyelids fluttered a little. Why did this feel so good already?
He went to tug your dress down to expose your breasts but he paused. He looked up at you. "This okay?" He whispered as his finger hooked the dress. You nodded. He slid it down and took a moment to admire the sight beneath him. You were braless. Your nipples hardened with the cold air. Goosebumps peppered over your supple flesh.
He leaned down and went back to kissing softly around the mounds of breast, one hand gripping gently as he wrapped his lips around your nipple and sucked. You gasped audibly at the sensation, reminding him that he was doing things right. Your hips twitched as the sensitive nerves shot tingles all the way down to your your pussy. Your walls twitched.
He worked his way to the other nipple, earning the same reaction. He bravely nibbled ever so gently on the second one, pulling the tiniest whine right out of your throat. He smirked a little. So reactive, you were. He almost felt guilty, like he was taking some kind of innocence away from you. Something you could never get back, not that you'd want to.
His hands slid up your outer thighs. He looked at you again for permission. You nodded. He slid the dress up over your hips and started kissing and nibbling your inner thighs. You twitched and exhaled at the more sensitive spots, and when he got as close as he could to your panties without actually touching them, he pulled back and looked up at you. You were flushed and eager, and it was killing him inside. He smirked again and placed a quick little kiss over your panties, right where he guessed your clit would be. You gasped and jerked at the sudden pressure. He hooked his finger under the waistline of your jeans, again, glancing up at you for permission. You didn't nod this time.
        "Please.." You whispered.
He was on top of the world. Hell, he owned the universe. You were begging him for something he had dreamt of giving you.
He slid your panties down your thighs and over your feet, tossing them to the side somewhere. He stared down at your glistening slit. You were already dripping.
He traced a single finger over the front of your pelvis, feeling the smooth, freshly shaved skin beneath his callous.
"Ya didn't have to shave for me." He whispered. You blushed.
        "I just--"
"Shh. It's okay." He cooed, gently running that same finger down your slit with painful gentleness. Your mouth gaped immediately, eyebrows pressed together. You had touched yourself plenty, but it felt so different when he did it. So new. "All this for me?" He teased, holding up his finger coated in your wetness. You blushed again. He raised his finger to his mouth and sucked it clean. You watched, helplessly infatuated with the dreamy sight below. Dreamy. Were you dreaming?
He lowered his face down, kissing softly over your lips before he finally swiped his tongue through your slit. You jerked and gasped, as you did for the next few seconds as he started to acclimate you to the sensation of his tongue.
"Relax." She whispered. You gasped again when his tongue glided flatly over your cunt, but you let out a shaky exhale and did as he said. You relaxed. When he felt you melt down into the bed, that was when he really got to work, flicking his tongue over and around your clit until he found a rhythm that you responded to. Your breaths and inhales slowly blended into a pattern of moans and tiny whines. He had you now, exactly how he needed you. Comfortable in bliss.
He slowed his pace then sped it up a few times, memorizing every reaction your body had to offer. When he stopped licking and started sucking on your clit, he slid a single finger inside you. If you were a virgin he was gonna have to loosen you up and get you ready. He wasn't one to gloat, but he was probably thicker than most, so he knew you'd need as much help as you could get.
You let out a moan as his digit slid inside you. That paired with the ache in your clit as he sucked at it was giving you visions of stars.
He got back to licking in little circles over your clit, slow at first, but then he sped up. He slipped another finger in, massaging your insides as your legs began to shake around his shoulders.
"Oh god."  You breathed. You felt a buzz in your lower half, a warm feeling building in your lower abdomen. You were getting close, and he could tell. He wanted to make you wait. He wanted you to be as eager for his cock as you were for his mouth. However, he wasn't entirely sure he'd last that long. You were so tight around his fingers, convulsing and pulsating, and he hadn't felt the inside of a woman in a long time.
So, he took you all the way. He kept his pace with his tongue and fingers as he built you up, brick by brick, until you crumbled. It didn't take long at all. You shuddered and let out a loud moan, hips rocking against his face as you trembled and whined and rode out your orgasm.
It was more than you could have ever anticipated. Your fingers were nothing compared to what he had just done to you. You didn't think you'd ever recover.
He slowed down, just barely gliding his tongue over your clit and twitching his fingers inside you to ensure you rode out the full length of your high, only pulling away and slipping out when he was sure you were overstimulated enough.
Your chest was rising and dropping as you stared down at him and his wet mess of a chin. Your lids were heavy. He climbed back up to your face and planted a kiss on your forehead before he stood up off the bed and began to strip.
Oh, right, the sex part. You had forgotten entirely. Your eyes fixated on the bulge under his boxers. They grew wide when he slid those off, too, and the sight of his bare cock hit you. It was long and thick, and you had no idea how you were going to take all that. He didn't expect you to, though. He'd try of course, but he'd be carefully monitoring for any signs of pain.
When he climbed back on top of you, you stared up at him nervously. He leaned down and left little kisses along your jaw before finally resting his lips on yours. You ran your fingers through his hair as you kissed him back.
"Ya still want this?" He mumbled against you.
        "Yes." You whispered.
He took your approval and looked down and guided his tip to your entrance. You bit your lip with anticipation when you felt the hard pressure of his head against you. He looked at you. You nodded. With that final gesture, he pushed the tip in. Your face contorted. He watched you as he pushed in a little more, and a little more, stopping when you whimpered.
        "Y'alright?"
        "Uh-huh." You squeaked.
        "Y'sure?"
"Yeah. Keep going. I want you to." You insisted. Well, if you insisted.
He pushed in further, achingly slow until he bottomed out. When the base of his shaft connected with your pelvis, your eyes widened. You let out a deep moan. Your own fingers could neve stretch you that way, could never reach that far inside you. It was an entirely new feeling. You couldn't tell how you liked it just yet.
When you didn't protest, he pulled out and pumped back in, slowly at first, soft strokes, until your body relaxed and you were visibly acclimated.
When he was confident you could take it, that was when he sped up, fucking you harder and  faster by the minute. Your body tensed up around him. He could feel your walls clench and pulsate around his cock. He was starting to think you might cum again.
        He leaned into your ear.
"Can ya cum again for me?"
Your eyes glazed over, lids falling lazily over the majority of your vision. Between your moans and whimpering you managed to choke out the words; "I-- I think so.."
"Mm." He growled lowly. You gripped his arms tightly, tuning out every thought as you pictured his cock pumping in and out of you, hitting that sensitive spot inside you that you had no idea existed until that moment. A familiar warmth washed over you. Tension in your stomach built and built, until finally.
"Yes!" You gasped, as if answering his question again.
"C'mon, girl.." He panted. He was also terrifyingly close, teetering on the edge. He only held back in hopes he'd squeeze another orgasm out of you first.
A high pitched whine escaped you as your body buzzed, shivers crawling over you as you came. If your sounds weren't enough, he could feel the pulsation around his cock and he knew he was almost in the clear. He clenched his jaw, trying as hard as he could to hold it back while he fucked you through your climax. Eventually he just couldn't take it anymore.
He pulled out as fast as he could, groaning as he stroked and milked hot cum out onto your stomach. You were breathless and sex drunk as you laid limp on the bed, watching him. When he caught his breath, he leaned down and grabbed your panties. He used them to wipe you clean of your own juices and his, before doing the same for himself.
"Ya gon' make it?" He teased you in your incapacitated state.
"Yep." You said lazily. "'Cause I'm gonna need  more."
He chuckled. "I need time to--"
"I meant tomorrow. And the next day, and the next day."

you’d woken up early, before Daryl and definitely before both of your children.
Daryl was curled into your side, his head on the swell of your breasts and his left arm draped across your stomach as he slept.
he looked picture perfect.
hair messy and askew across his face, brown curls draped over his closed eyes.
lifting your hand and brushing his hair from his face, humming at the sight of the face you fell in love with all of those years ago.
simply admiring him as he slept, left hand soothing across his back— careful of all the scars that adorn his skin.
the peaceful nature normally didn’t last long, your daughter always vowing for Daryl’s attention first thing until last. he didn’t mind of course, he loved this chance at being a dad and you loved watching him being a dad.
but the peace and quiet was a craving you always had when you woke up, even more so with Daryl curled so warmly in your arms.
as if he could feel your stares even in his sleep, Daryl began to stir. a low tired groan pushing past his lips as he buried his face in against your throat, laughing softly at his groggy state while your hand moved up his back and into his hair once more.
“morning Dar”
you greeted, keeping your voice soft. he let out a grunt in recognition— his own way of saying good morning.
scratching your nails softly across his scalp as you continued on, your nails pulling something akin to purrs from his lips.
“it’s early, kids are still asleep”
innuendo laced your words, and it had his head lifting to meet your gaze. meeting his tired yet hungry eyes while he sat up on his knees between your legs, big hands pulling you closer to him and your head thumping against the pillows while you giggled.
“good idea then?”
you asked softly, gazing up at him with an equal want. he nodded in response, eyes mapping across your body and focusing longer on the exposed skin that peeked out through your pyjamas.
“grea’ idea”
he mused, eyes focused on your body while his big hands pawed at your hips. despite his hunger for you his touch was soft, caring— loving.
his thumbs hooked into the waistband of your shorts, gaze flicking to yours for permission and receiving a nod in return.
without waiting another minute he was pulling down your shorts, the cotton tossed aside before he moved to repeat his action with your underwear.
“too many fuckin’ layers”
he complained, finally getting off your underwear and letting his gaze drop lower to your cunt. he groaned at the sight, his hands pushing your thighs further apart and spreading you wider for him.
his gaze predatory as he watched your cunt drool with arousal, walls fluttering around nothing as warmth pooled in your belly.
“Daryl, please”
pleading with him until his gaze was on your face again, his head nodding eagerly. his left hand coming up to brace himself on the pillows by your head, while his other hand was pushing down the waistband of his boxers until his cock was springing free.
you hummed at the sight, his cock throbbing with need against your thigh and the head of him leaking pre-cum.
“you’re so hard already”
he huffed out a breath of air, his right hand wrapping around himself and giving a couple strokes. your eyes followed his hand as it moved along his cock, the movement rhythmic and hypnotic.
“‘ad a dream ‘bout you”
he admitted softly, a groan slipping past his lips as he continued to stroke himself. heat flooding his body and his cheeks turning pinky, almost in embarrassment about having a wet dream about you.
reaching one of your hands between your bodies to wrap around his cock, taking over stroking him and pulling groans from his chest.
his hips pushed forward as he leaned in to press his lips to yours, his right hand slipping between your bodies again to swipe the tip of his cock through your slick. both of you gasping against the others lips, his hair fallen in your face as he hovered inches from you.
“need ya sweet’art”
he drawled, his thumb on the top of his cock as he rocked his hips against you. continuing his back and forth motion before nudging himself at your entrance and sliding in in one smooth thrust.
both of you mewling at the feeling, your walls fluttering desperately around him and trying to accommodate to his intrusion.
“shit— so fuckin’ tight”
he groaned out, his cock throbbing in your warmth as he bottomed out. his right hand snaked under your t-shirt to palm at your boobs, his thumb padding over your peaked nipples before rolling it between his thumb and pointer finger.
whining at his touch, your back arching up towards his hand and a chuckled out groan falling from his lips.
your hands falling to the hem of your t-shirt and helping to remove it, hearing his breath hitch at the sight of your body before he was leaning in to kiss you again— cock still throbbing inside you, aching for any sort of relief.
“so fucking pretty darlin’,”
he drawled out against your lips, nodding at his words and hooking your arms around his neck to pull him closer and into another kiss.
the kiss was needier this time, all teeth and tongue. Daryl was pouring every emotion into the kiss all while his hips drawed back, his cock sliding majority of the way out before pushing back into you.
his pace starting slow, both of his arms on either side of your head. your face inches from his, and his eyes searching yours.
fingers softly brushing his hair from his face as his hips picked up their pace, his hair jostling back into his eyes with every thrust he gave.
“mhm love you Dar”
you mewled out after brushing his hair out of his face and behind his ear, blue eyes looking back at you— his pupils blown wide with desire.
he was leaning in to press his lips to yours again, his hips rutting deeper into you as you parted your lips to allow him to deepen the kiss. his tongue slipping past your lips to tangle with yours, the kiss conveying all the thoughts and feelings he had.
everything Daryl gave you— sexual or not— made warmth flood your heart, he made you feel loved in every aspect of your life together. and his sheer determination on pleasing you in moments like this showed his want and love.
his hips continued, the subtle sound of skin slapping against skin filled your room and still quiet house.
Daryl dropped his head to your shoulder, face tucking in against your throat as heat poured through his body and settled in the pit of his stomach.
the feeling that shot down his spine was all too familiar, one that made him feel as if he was about to cum too soon.
“close darlin’, shit ‘m sorry”
the words came flowing out, his thrusts stuttering briefly before he continued. his cock hitting that one spot over and over, sending you hurtling closer and closer to your climax.
“it’s okay, don’t be sorry”
you reassured, his head lifting and his eyes searching yours. nodding in response to his quiet question before he was dipping his head again, tangling your fingers in his hair and scratching your nails across his scalp.
his groans against your throat and his desperate thrusts showed his impending release, the coil in his belly teetering on snapping.
“i’ve got you baby, it’s okay”
the words whispered against his ear followed by your cunt fluttering around him was his undoing, he groaned desperately against your throat as the coil snapped.
his balls drawing up as he spilling himself inside you, his thrusts shaky as he worked himself through his climax.
subsequently, his undoing was yours as well.
your cunt spasming around him as the pool of arousal bubbled over in your belly, your climax crashing over you and your release coating his cock.
fingers tangled in his hair and pulling him up into another kiss, your gaze reassuring as he pulled back to mumble out to you.
“love you too darlin’”

Summary: After years of being split apart from your group, due to being taken and relocated by the Saviors, you run in to not only one familiar face, but specifically, the one you were searching for this whole time.
Warnings: strong language, apocalypse setting, swearing, mentions of knives, guns, bows, other weapons, mentions of killing (both humans and zombies), some descriptive text, reader gets taken by the saviors, mentions of scars, fighting, AGE GAP - friends to lovers, reader likes Daryl, Daryl hides the fact that he likes reader, some flirting, nothing too spicy lol
Word count: 4.9k | not edited also my first Daryl fic so be nice :)
A/N - I’m writing this for me, yes, but I’m also this for the ones who have a problem, I mean… are attracted to men old enough to be their father, so please do NOT read if age gap relationships make you uncomfortable! This also is more or less my version of the walking dead, the group meets Negan, but not like in the show.

FIVE • YEARS • AGO
There was no denying that you were Daryl’s favorite person to go on runs with, anyone that just showed up could tell you that.
You were fast. Efficient. Very get in and get out type of girl. You didn’t fuck around, and Daryl loved that - but he’d never tell you that himself.
He also swore to never tell you that he wanted you around him because you made him happy in ways that he didn’t really like to talk about.
You were like a breath of fresh air to him, you picked up what he liked and what he didn’t like almost right away, you were one of the very few people that he didn’t get tired of being around all the time, hence why you join him every time he goes on a run.
He wasn’t much of a talker, the very first two runs together, you got a few mumbles out of him, mainly telling you where to go and when to look out.
But, that was until your third run of many run with Daryl. It would be silent, and he would almost scare you with just talking outright.
It wasn’t more than a, ‘how’s your day?’
Or maybe a, ‘ya sleep last night? Y’look tired’
You would always give him a quick, straight to the point response, ‘tossed and turned all night, might need a new blanket or somethin’
Or you would tease him slightly with something along the lines of, ‘Days better now that I’m out runnin’ around with my bestie.’
He says he hated when you called him that, but he would always chuckle and try to hide his smile by pointing out something ahead.
You would go with it, rolling your eyes subtly before you squint, “Daryl, I think you’re seeing things.” You look over at him, “or you’re just scared to talk to me.”
He’d scoff, “Ain’t scared of nothin’, darlin’.”
All you could do was smile and look away, mainly to hide the red on your cheeks from being spotted.
It really wasn’t that Daryl was scared, it was just, as slightly embarrassing as he thinks, he didn’t know how to talk to you.
He would always try to remind himself that you aren’t this delicate little flower, you can handle yourself. If you couldn’t, he would have never stumbled upon you.
You both would keep moving, not really stopping unless a walker or something came out of the tree line. The more runs you added to the list, the more you realized that you were patient enough to wait on him.
You really did have all the time in the world.
Were you also young and twenty one years old? Sure. But in this world, you’d always like to think, What’s it matter, really?
You had to roll with what you found, and you got lucky that day Daryl found you under a fallen tree - long story short, he helped you out and as soon as he knew your name, he couldn’t help but want to bring you home with him.
And that’s what he did.
Daryl has also spoken, well, more or less make comments to Rick about the girl from the woods. He’d beat around the bush as his eyes followed you across the way, watching as Carol showed you around, “y’know that girl I brought in?”
Rock would nod, “Y/n?”
A smirk would play sure Daryl’s lips as he replays you taking out two walkers at the same time, “Little young, though. Ain’t she?”
Rick shook his head, giving Daryl’s shoulder a squeeze as he stood up, “You deserve what ever makes you happy, Daryl. We make our own rules now.”
——
“There was a convenient store on the corner of one of these roads.” You look at Daryl then glancing behind you, “I figured.. if we don’t find it today.” You glance back and then forward, “We can try and hit it another day.”
“Would ya stop fuckin’ doin’ that?” He looks behind you and then at you, “really freakin’ me out today, y/n. What’s goin’ on with ya?”
“Sorry.” You sigh, shaking your head, “I just have this really weird feeling like we should have just stayed back today.”
“You wanna go back?” Daryl stops as you take a few steps ahead before turning around. He nods back, “We’re not that far away, if y’feel safer goin’ back-“
“I’m not letting you go out there alone.”
“I’m not goin’ back.” Daryl was stubborn, but so were you, “Then so am I.”
He scoffs quietly, shaking his head as he nudges you with his elbow, indicating you to walk with him. You turn, staying a little bit closer to Daryl as you make your way down the road.
About an hour away, you stand up from the last of the boxes in a semi fallen down shed, “Nothing.” You turn to Daryl and he shakes his head, “Got the same over here.”
“No where?” You look around the room and he shrugs, “should prolly just head back, it’s gonna get dark here soon.”
The weird feeling you had from earlier returns and you sigh, “Not to be annoying, but I can’t shake this feeling.”
Daryl clenches his jaw, “Alright, it’s alright.” He picks up his crossbow, “C’mon now.”
It’s the way Daryl makes your heart warm with the simple, nonchalant ways he makes sure you’re okay, trying to make sure you’re calm without actually letting you know that that is what he’s doing, but you know.
You’ve come to know Daryl better than anyone in the few short months you’ve been at Alexandria.
“Did somethin’ happen or, what?” Daryl asks as he glances over at you, trying to keep up with your slightly faster pace.
You shrug, “I just feel like something is going to happen, Daryl.” You look over at him, “Something bad.”
——
Your feeling was proven to be worth something because the moment you entered through the gates, you were gunned down, Daryl, too.
“Gimme your guns.” A tall man says in a sing-songy tone as he bends down, looking you right in your face, “And your cross bow.” He looks over to Daryl and Daryl wasn’t going to give it up without a fight.
The man stands up, walking over to lean down in Daryl’s face, “Now.”
“Y/n. Do it.” Rick says catching your attention. Only your eyes move towards Rick, hands up as a gun is pointed right next to his temple, “Daryl. You, too.”
“I’d listen to your boss man, alright. I don’t feel like killing anyone today, which is..” the man tilts his head, scratching at his temple, “Odd, but anyone. Consider this your one time act of kindness because I can promise you, from here on out, ain’t gonna be purdy.”
You tilt your head, taking your gun from your shoulder and laying it down. You take your pistol and set it down next to the rifle, “That’s all I have.”
“Mm.” The man tilts his head, “I don’t believe you.” He grips your bicep hard, causing you to yelp as he yanks you forward and onto your feet.
“Let her fuckin’ go!” Daryl yells, and you know he’s already trying to get up, but the moment you get to look back, there’s a gun in his face, blocking his view of you.
You’re thrown up against the side of the old and dusty moving truck, groaning as your head ricochetes off the side with a thump, “Fuck, ow!”
You bring your hand up, pulling it away to see red when you feel a wetness on your skin.
“You mother fu-“ Daryl starts to yell, but the man puts a gun to your temple, “I’m just trying to do my job, now shut the fuck up or I’ll really give you something to fucking yell about.”
You keep your eyes on Daryl, watching as his eyes quickly move between you and the man holding you hostage.
“I’ll keep it professional.” He taps your shoulder, “Arat. Come check her for weapons.”
You were scared shitless.
You didn’t want to die, or anyone else to die.
Who are these people, you thought as the woman behind you slid her hands roughly over your body, “Simon. This is her.”
You head shot up as Simon, supposedly, laughs, “No fucking way.” He steps back, “Negan is going to love this.”
“Who’s Negan?” Rick asks and Simon turns around slowly to look at Rick, arms spreading out to his sides slowly, “We’re all Negan.”
Simon points to you with his thumb, “Load her up.”
The uproar that happens within your people is instant and there’s a shot fired into the air, making you flinch.
“That’s e-fuckin’-nuff.” Simon yells, “The girl is coming with us, and there’s-“ he raises his voice, “Nothing you can do about it.”
He walks you back to the truck, motioning with his gun for you to get in.
You take one last look at Daryl before you start to get in, heading Simon chuckle as he sighs, “Maybe you’ll see her again, maybe you won’t. We’ll be back with more orders. Until then, stay the fuck here or more we will kill your beloved.. whatever she is to you.”
Simon looks at Daryl, “You got that Robin Hood?”
Daryl holds his heated stare onto him and that’s the last thing you see before the door shuts.
——
“Well, well, fuckin’ well. What do we have here?” A deep voice boasts from behind you. You wiggle your wrists and close your eyes, feeling a presence move around you to your front.
You open your eyes and you’re met with a rugged dude in a leather jacket, a baseball bat that’s wrapped in barbed wire tightly secured in his fist, “You must be the girl who knows her way around those dead fucks out there.”
“What are you talking about?” You look up, eyes meeting the tall, older man and he just chuckles, “A few of my men saw you take on a group, I dunno, five or six deep..” he points to you with each word, “..All. on. your. own.”
You shrug, “I’ve been out there a while.”
“And how longs a while, sweetheart?” The man asks, squatting down in front of you.
“Two years with a group, three on my own.” You say quietly, your brain reminding you about the night had no other choice but to go off on your own.
“Holy shit.” The man shakes his head, “You hearin’ this shit, Simon?”
“Arat said it was her. I can get Gavin to confirm, too.” Simon answers and the man nods, standing up to pull a chair over in front of you, “If I untie you, you promise you’ll play nice?”
You were disgusted. You wanted to go home.
You wanted Daryl. You wanted Daryl more than anything.
You nod, hands gripping the arm rests as his knife slides between your skin and the rope, flicking the blade upward to get it to cut open.
He repeats it to the other side and leans back, “You seem like you have a pretty name.” He tilts his head, fingers rubbing over the stubble on his chin, “Do you have a pretty name, sweetheart?”
“Y/n.”
“Y/n.” The man repeats in a whisper, “Damn. That is pretty.” He shakes his head, smirking as his eyes take in your, very nervous figure sitting in the chair, “Look.”
The man leans forward, “I’ll tell you this, alright.” You keep your eyes off of him, which seemed to upset him. His voice grew louder and his hand reached up to tightly grip your chin, “Look. At. Me. When I am talking to you.”
You force your eyes to his and he picks up speaking where he stopped, “You’re a little spit fire out there, okay. Which mean, you’re a delicacy to your little asshole groupies back at that shithole, what was it called? Alex- some for bullshit?”
“Alexandria.” You mumble out, keeping your eyes on his. He tilts his head back, his hand still gripping your chin, “Oh, oh. Right. Yes. Alexandria.”
The door behind you opens and the man drops his hand, “Gavin, my man. I need you to tell me if this is the girl you say in the woods a few weeks ago.”
The man stands up, spinning the chair around for, presumed, Gavin to see you. His eyes move over your body, “Does she have a tattoo or some sort of mark on the back of her left arm?”
Fuck. Fuck. Fuck.
“When she lifted her arm, it-“
“Lift your arm for me, sweetheart.” The man spins you towards him and you have no other choice but to oblige, you strongly feel that the other choice is death, which you can not allow to happen now.
You pull your shirt sleeve up and the man scoffs, “Bing-fucking-o.” The man shakes his head, “Get a team together, we’re going to meet the people of Alexandria earlier than expected.”
He looks to you, “Take her up to a room. A good room. She hasn’t done anything to not deserve it yet.” He winks at you and you look down as you feel a hand grab your bicep to lift you to your feet.
“Do you have any questions for me?”
You stop, turning to look at the man with the baseball bat resting on his shoulder, “Who are you?”
“Oh, sweetheart.” He walks over, tilting his head as he looks down at you, “I’m Negan.”
——
Your first day here was scary. You cried yourself to sleep, worried both about Daryl and the rest of Alexandria.
By the next morning, You were itching to get out, constantly looking for a way to escape, but they had so many people, no matter where you looked, you had eyes on you at all times.
To your surprise, the last week you spent with what you heard them call themselves, The Saviors, wasn’t in a stone cell like you pictured them doing the second you left that room on the first day.
You really didn’t know why.
You kill zombies, big deal. Doesn’t everyone else on this fucked up planet?
“Come with me, honey pie.” Simon says as he pulls you along with him, “Your time to shine.”
You’re taken outside, squinting at the brightness of the sun shining down from above. You couldn’t help but take a deep breathe, it’s the first time you’ve been outside in days.
“Get in and scoot over.” Simon commands and you climb up into the truck, your eyes meeting Negan’s as he steps up to sit into the passengers seat.
You don’t say a word to him. You just face forward as Simon smooshes you between him and Negan as he closes the door.
“So you and Robin Hood, huh?” Simon asks, referring to Daryl. You shake your head in response.
“Listen, sweetie. One thing we do around here, is answer people questions, with the words we learned how to speak. Got it?”
“Yes sir.” You say, clearing your throat, “No, me and.. Robin Hood are not a thing.”
“Seems to care about you like he does. You catch onto that Negan? The way he wanted to rip your throat out yesterday?” Simon chuckles, “Aw the look in his, man. I tell you what though, if looks could kill, you would have been dead.”
“Gonna have to take more than a nasty look to kill me.” Negan chuckles deeply, “Oh looky here.” He points, looking over at you as he sings, “honey.. we’re home.”
Your heart was racing as you seen Rosita motion to open the gate.
You watch her face shift into a shocked look when she caught glimpse of you through the windshield.
As you drive in, coming to a stop, you already see Daryl, front and center with Rick.
“C’mon.” Simon motions to you and you slide over, allowing him to help you down before you follow him around the truck. He pulls you closer to him, the click sending a shiver down your spine.
“Alright. Here’s the deal. You all want your badass, Duffy the zombie slayer black, but I don’t know.” Negan glances back at you, “She could be useful to me.”
You see Rick tighten his grip on Daryl’s vest and you send him a loving look.
“That thought didn’t even cross my mind, but you know what, how about this, If you want y/n back, give us half of your food today, and I want, we’ll make it easy.. ten guns by next week.”
“T-ten guns?” Rick asks baffled, “by next week? Negan that’s.. don’t you think that’s a little impossible?”
“Fine, make it fifteen by Friday, or you can say goodbye to the only chance you all actually have at surviving.” Negan points to you, “As you can she, she’s alive and well, now.”
Negan motions to the truck, “Let’s go.”
You shake your head and Simon grabs your arm roughly and you pull back, letting your fear get the best of you, “No, please. Nono, please no! No!”
Your pleads only set everyone on your side off, yelling and trying to push past the wall of Saviors.
Knives are drawn and you’re held to Negan’s chest, “Listen here! I make the rules. I have something you want and now, you’re going to go off and fuckin’ get me what I want. I’m done negotiating.”
“Negan, please. Just let y/n stay an I pro-“
Negan cuts Rick off, “You promise what, Rick? Huh? You already doubted yourselves with getting ten-“ He gasps, “Sorry, I mean fifteen by next Friday.”
He laughs, shaking his head, sighing as he brings his bat, Lucille, next for your face, “what makes you think you can handle the load of getting this thing here back.”
Daryl’s eyes squint as Negan calls you, this thing.
You swallow, glancing around.
You can take on six walkers, but not this many saviors, the walkers didn’t have rifles pointed at the people you’ve come to love and care for.
“Why are-“ Negan scoffs, “Why are we even still discussing this? You know what. Fine.” He pushes you to the back of the truck and you stumble, silently begging for help.
“If you’re going to cause this big of a fuss instead of just doing as I say..” Negan looks at you, “Then no one can.”
He shrugs, pointing Lucille at the open back, “Get in, or I kill someone.”
——
P R E S E N T • D A Y
You held your breath as you pushed your back up against the tree, waiting for the stray walker to move past you, knife at the ready just in case.
You slip around the tree, opposite way from the dead before you continue your journey through the woods.
It’s been, almost five years since you were left stranded in the middle of god knows where by Negan and his Saviors.
You weren’t even sure if they were still a thing or not, but jokes on them, you’re still alive.
And you’re full of fight.
You stopped at the river, bending down to feel the cool water on your fingertips. You’ve been walking all day, and you just needed to take a second.
You look up, taking in the scenery for a few moments before it all starts to becomes, familiar.
You stand up, looking around as your heart starts to pound. You shake your head, laughing slightly as you bend down to grab your bag.
If this is the river you were thinking of, then this river runs directly past your grandfathers cabin, and you can only hope that if Daryl was alive and out there looking for you, that he comes this way.
He should know about this, you stumbled upon it while on a run the one day. You remember about it, but all you knew was that it was next to the river that looked really pretty when the sun was setting, and it still does.
You only had about two hours of sunlight left, and you didn’t know how far you had to go yet, or even if you were going in the right direction.
If this cabin was here, maybe you could finally get a decent nights sleep, that is if it isn’t destroyed by walkers and the storms that plow through.
“I’m going to go get some more firewood.” A woman’s voice sounds through the trees. You stop, moving, furrowing your brows as you try and listen, but she’s already moving, walking away from the small building.
Your cabin.
You feel like you could throw up.
You turn around, trying to see if you can get a glimpse of who she was talking, too, but nothing.
“Raise your hands and turn around slowly.”
You whip around, catching her off guard before her face settles, “Holy shit.” Carol laughs slightly, “Daryl is going to lose his mind.”
She pulls you into a hug and you hear her sniffle, “oh my god, look at you.” She leans back, hands sliding over your hand and down your face, “You grew up.”
You smile slightly, your mind going back to who’s in the cabin, “Is he in there?”
“Every chance he got.” She shakes her head, “So much has happened.” You see the pain in her eyes but you opt to keep things happy right now, “we can talk later. I want to see Daryl first.”
She nods, brushing hair from your face, “Im so happy you found your way back.”
“It was hell, but right now, totally worth it.” You take a deep breath, “You go in first.”
She nods, walking a head of you as she leads you back towards the cabin, “Hey Daryl.” Carol calls as she smaller back at you, “I found something that you’re going to want to see.”
You stand by the fire, the glow illuminates you as you stand there waiting to see his face for the very first time in five years.
The feelings you had, never went away.
“What’d ya fi-“ His face falls and his arms go limp by his sides as he shakes his head, “No fuckin’ way.”
Tears well up in your eyes as Daryl slowly steps down off the porch, “No fuckin’ way.” He looks at Carol and back to you before quickly making his way over to you.
“Where the hell ya been?” He grabs you, pulling you into his chest tight, “I thought you were dead, I-.” He leans back, looking over your slightly older looks.
“Negan told us that he watched you get attacked by walkers.” Carol chimes in, finishing what Daryl couldn’t, “He brought back your necklace, there was blood on it.. we didn’t..”
You keep your hands on Daryl, your fingers moving under the sleeve of his jacket, “Negan snapped that necklace off my neck before they dumped me in the middle of nowhere.”
Daryl scoffs, pulling you closer to rest his chin on your head. Carol smiles as she watches the affectionate radiate off of him.
“They drove me way past the city, too. I don’t know. I’m pretty sure they drugged me or something because I was out for most of the trip.”
You feel Daryl’s grip tighten with your words and you shake your head, laying a hand on his bicep, “So much happened.”
You think back to all the stuff you had to do just to make it back to here, cringing at yourself.
“Ya hungry?” Daryl asks changing the subject and you nod, “Starving.”
——
Since the minute you found them, Daryl hasn’t left your side, and Dog right by his.
You were able to handle the news of the deaths and destruction among your group and homes, it hurt to hear, but it’s better that you know how than walking in expecting everything to be all sunshine and rainbows.
ou cried, but there was one question you needed the answer to.
“Are the Savior’s gone?” You looked up at Carol as she looks to Daryl. Your attention moves to him and he nods, “Ah, yeah. Yeah. But..”
“What?”
“Negan is at Alexandria.”
You’re on your feet, “What.”
“It’s only tem-“
You turn, walking away from Carol as she tries to explain, but you walk over to a tree, pressing your hand into it.
As you take a few deep breathes, you feel someone walking up to you, “I just need a minute.” You tilt your head, closing your eyes as you swallow the feeling of wanting to puke away.
“S’alot to process.” Daryl mumbles, unsure of what to do, “Take your time.”
Do you resent him now?
Are you going to leave again?
He wanted you to know everything, but he wouldn’t have if that meant you leaving again.
“Daryl?” You wave your hand in front of his face and he blinks, “Sorry I just..” he shakes his head, “please don’t leave me again.”
“Leave you again?” You laugh slightly, letting out a sigh, “Why would you think that I’d leave you? I’ve been looking for you.”
“I haven’t stopped. I came here because I-“
You smirk slightly, “Because you actually paid attention to your bestie?”
He gives you a small smirk, shoulders heaving as he laughs ever so slightly, “You’ve changed..” Daryl brushes his hand over your hair, his thumb gently brushing over your face, His brows furrow, “when did you get this?”
His finger brushes over the scar on your top lip, “Did someone do this t’you?”
“One of those assholes that pushed me out of the car, hit my face on a rock.” You shake your head, “It’s just a scar, Daryl.”
Which was one of many you have received.
“Sorry I-“
“Don’t. Don’t do that.” You shake your head, “What happened to me wasn’t your fault, okay.”
All he does is nod but you frown slightly, “Have I ever told you that I liked you?”
“I don’t think you’d come on runs with me if ya didn’t.” Daryl looks at you and you tilt your head, “No, like..” you bite your lip and sigh.
He laughs slightly, “M’old enough to be your daddy, y/n.” You smirk up at him, getting ready to say something but he pulls you towards him, “Watch out.”
Natural instinct, you have your knife in your hand within a second and you both swing around, the blades of your knives entering the dead’s skull in unison.
You look at the knives and back to Daryl, “Either way I look at it.” You pull your knife from the walker, “You and I will always have unfinished business to take care of.”
Daryl shakes his head as he withdrawals his knife, “You think?”
You lay your hand on his chest, “I know.”
You couldn’t let yourself feel what you’ve pushed through, but both Carol and Daryl can see that.
“Hi, boy.” You bend down to pet Dog, your shirt riding up to reveal a slightly bigger scar than on your lip. Daryl’s eyes fixate on it right away and he clenches his jaw.
Before he can ask, you stand up, “You fix up everything?”
“Yeah, go take a look.” Daryl sniffles and walks towards Carol as you walk into the cabin. Memories of growing up here flood through, almost breaking that barrier until Dog pushes between your legs, whining as he trots in.
“Do you need anything?” Carol asks walking up beside you. You shake your head, hesitating to look over at her at first, “No, no. I’m good.”
“We can head back to Alexandria in the morning.” She rubs your back, “It’s really good to have you back.”
You smile, nodding, “It’s really nice to not be alone.”
“What happened out there?”
You shake your head sluggishly, “I don’t-“
“Okay.” She says quickly as Daryl walks in. You look up at him, “I think I’m going to go lay down.” You walk over to where your bag is and sit down.
You bring your knees to your chest, eyes focusing on Dog as he glows in the light of the fire.
A few moments later, Daryl’s footsteps move closer to you. He stays silent as he moves to sit next to you. He brings his arm out, laying it around your back as he pulls you into his side.
You immediately fall into him, your head on his chest, arm around his torso. He inches back, just enough to lean against the wall for support.
Daryl looked down at you, gently playing with strands of your now long hair, it was just a little past your shoulders when you were separated.
You lost weight from having to scavenge for any food that was safe to eat.
He knew what you went through was tormenting you, he just wanted you to know that you aren’t alone.
“Look at me, y/n.”
You roll over into your back, head in his lap as you stare up at him.
“When you’re ready to tell someone, m’here f’ya.”
You close your eyes as his hand strokes over your hair. You haven’t felt this safe in a while, so you were just trying to soak it all in without having to worry every single second of the day and most nights.
“I love you.” Daryl whispers, “Should’ve told you that years ago.”
“It’s about time you say those words to me, Daryl Dixon.” You sit up, keeping your chest on his arm as you lean in, “I love you.”
——
I started to hate this towards the end but I NEEDED to get this off of my chest. I hope you enjoyed. As always, I love you so much. Thank you for reading! 🖤

Inspired by “Judas” by Lady Gaga // Best viewed in Dark Mode
You were part of the tight-knit group that consisted of you, Rick Grimes, Lori Grimes, and Shane Walsh. The married couple made a bet if you and Shane would end up together, they both knew Shane liked you, and you would say you were interested but not really.
Yet you felt like something was missing, you found the idea of being with Shane depressing. If it wasn’t for Andrea and Amy dragging you to a bar, you never would’ve met the man that flipped your life around. The man in the black leather jacket with the name JUDAS printed on the back.

“What?”
His gruff voice spooked you from your lustful haze, where you’d been glancing over at Daryl every couple seconds. You shook your head in a fruitless attempt to clear your sinful thoughts, before meeting his eyes.
“Hmm?” You spoke softly, it was all you could do in your state. Oh, how you wanted him to pull over and let you have your way with him.
“Been starin’ at me since we got in the car. Do I got somethin’ on my face or what?” Daryl sounded annoyed, but you knew him better to just be deeply confused by your actions. You couldn’t exactly blame him, it’d been over twenty minutes and you’d barely spoken since you both had left for a supply run.
But you couldn’t help it. With your panties soaked, slit slippery and clit throbbing in neglect, you were desperately trying to act normal.
Clearly, you’d failed.
It was Daryl’s fault; you’d been fine until you saw him leant against a porch pillar, lighting up a cigarette. You couldn’t explain it because you’d seen him smoke before, but something about the way he looked then had your thighs squeezing, breath catching.
He was busy talking to Rick, blowing smoke as he spoke intently. His arms were bulging, muscles on full display as they moved to further prove his words. The vest did nothing to offer cover and with his pretty lips wrapped around the cigarette, you felt faint. His brown locks were shaggy, covering his eyes in a way that made you wanna tug them as you kissed.
Simply put, you’d wanted him to ruin you.
“No, baby. Jus’ look pretty today is all.” You sighed, now staring at him shamelessly as you leant against the car door to have him in your full view.
“Pretty?!” Daryl scoffed, affronted at the very suggestion. Even so, his ears heated up and his cheeks tinged the slightest shade of pink. “Can’ say I've heard that one before.”
“You are,” You promised, voice filled to the brim with adoration for him because yeah, your archer was fuckin’ pretty and deserved to be told. “Look super handsome today.”
“Shut up.” His gruff voice sounded, rolling his eyes at you as you’d made him flush again.
“I’m serious! Got me all flustered, ever since this mornin’!” You huffed, voice whiny and light, throwing your head back against the window for relief on your heated skin.
With your admission, he averted his gaze from the road to you, silently groaning at your blown out pupils, the pink flush dancing across your cheeks and down your chest.
Jesus, you were serious. How the fuck was he supposed to continue on driving when he had his girl next to him, needy for him?
“Fuck.” He spoke, noting that you had now taken your seatbelt off and were shuffling closer to him. “What’re you doin?”
You’d opted to take an old pickup truck and there wasn’t any middle console, just a continuation of the bench. For what you had in mind, you silently thanked whoever came up with that design.
“Pull over, Daryl.” With a breathy voice, you pressed a wet kiss onto his neck. Hearing a hitch in his breath, you licked up his neck until you reached his scruffy cheek, moaning as you did so. “Please, need you so bad.”
The car jerked suddenly as you palmed his strong thigh, teeth nibbling on his earlobe. He felt himself harden in his pants at the feel of your dainty hands touching him, of your plushy lips soothing the sting your teeth had left behind.
“Can’t, sunshine. It’s not safe to be sittin’ in the road bein’ distracted.” He spoke with regret, especially as your hand palmed his dick over the material. He wanted you safe though, and he wasn’t lying when he thought it was dangerous to pull over in the middle of nowhere. “Just wait til we get— fuck.”
His words muddled into a string of curses, car wobbling again as you’d released him before pulling his cock from his pants, zipper undone.
“Wanna suck you off.”
And shit, with the way you were looking at him, with the way you wet your lips as you looked at his dick, he wanted to stuff your mouth full.
“Dammit, you’re such a fuckin’ brat.” You bent down, level with his crotch as you gawked at his exposed dick, precum now bubbling at the tip.
You licked your lips at the sight of white, pearly beads and before he could process it, his engorged tip was in the warm confines of your mouth, suckling soft and slow.
“Cant ever behave, can you? Jesus, baby.” He looked down at you, grunting as your eyes met his just as you swirled your tongue over him, dipping into his drippy slit. You hummed at the salty flavor of him, giving a few more sucks to his tip, before releasing it with a ‘pop’, a string of saliva connecting your puffy lips to him.
You’d only stopped because you noticed he’d let off the gas, the car barely even moving down the deserted street.
“Drive.” You demanded, gripping his base and jerking at a teasingly slow pace, eyes piercing his pretty blue ones. You leaned in to his face, licking his bottom lip before sucking the soft skin into your mouth. Daryl was so unbelievably turned on from your behavior that your voice barely registered. You released his lip, planting a wet kiss onto him before looking at him again. “Drive the car, or I’m stopping. It’s not safe to stop, remember?”
And from the snarl that appeared on his spit-slick mouth, you knew you’d pay for saying that.
“Nah, I can’t focus when your mouth is o—“
“Drive.”
Your command surged him into action, partially because your bratty attitude was making him throb and partially because he needed his dick down your throat, now.
The engine roared as he pressed down on the gas. Then, he gripped your hair tightly, scalp tingling as he made you look at him.
“Suck.” When you made no move, because you’d been too fucking entranced by how hot Daryl was, especially as he yanked your hair roughly, he grunted. “Now, your pissin’ me off with your little fuckin’ angel eyes.”
His words, along with his grip on your hair, had you parting your lips and sucking him down.
The car was filled with the filthy noises your mouth made as you switched between licking him from base to tip and then wrapping swollen lips around him. His taste was overwhelming your senses and your cunt ached to be filled. The rumble of the car kept jiggling your body and you gagged around him as you slid lower onto him.
Tears pooled your lash line but instead of letting up, you bobbed your head up and down to hear more of his groans. The only time Daryl was truly vocal was when you sucked him off and shit, if it didn’t make you wet.
You snuck a hand around to pet your pussy, the throb becoming too much to ignore, when Daryl suddenly pulled you off him. And the sight of you had him bucking into the air; a mix of spit and his precum coated your lips, your eyes wet from crying on his cock, hair messy around your face.
You looked so pretty like this, all cock-drunk.
“Don’t get to touch yourself, not with your fuckin’ attitude.” His tone was so gravely, so assertive that instead of being annoyed, you whimpered. “Now, get your pants off and c’mere.”
It was only then you’d noticed that he’d stopped the car, trees surrounded the vehicle as nothing was in sight for miles.
Your demanding act was far gone; you needed Daryl inside you.
Without another thought, you clambered from your kneeling spot and wiggled out of your pants as best as you could, though your movements were jittery as Daryl watched you the entire time, eyes nearly black with need.
Finally free, you swung yourself onto his lap and moaned loudly; his cock, hard and still coated in your spit, rubbed at your thinly covered cunt as you sat atop him. The buckle of his pants was cold and you jolted as its coolness hit your puffy clit.
“Fuck, Daryl.” You gripped his long strands, yanking as you humped him. The sight of you all whiny and pathetic for him made him grunt lowly before catching your parted lips in a kiss. “Mmph.”
Immediately, the kiss was obscene. Daryl rubbed his tongue with yours, swallowing your whines as the muscles danced with one another. Spit was pooling at the corner of your mouth and as he pulled away, a string of saliva connected you both.
Breathing heavily, Daryl reached between you both and pulled your underwear to the side, swearing as he did so.
“So fuckin’ wet, honey. All this for me?” His eyes flickered across your face as you stared back, lust drenching your features as you huffed.
“All for you,” you gasped, lips bumping his and fingers pulling his hair. His fingers found your entrance, marveling at how fucking soaked you were. Daryl leaned into you, capturing your mouth with his as you whimpered into him as he shoved two fingers in at once.
For a bit, thats all it was and it was a fucking sight. You, clinging to Daryl as you greedily kissed him, moans spilling from you as his fingers filled you. Him, fucking you with one hand whilst the other gripped your ass harshly, pulling the flesh as he rocked you against his fingers inside you.
You would’ve come like that, if he hadn’t then removed them just as your orgasm tickled your gut.
“What the fu—“ you were cut off by Daryl as he shoved his fingers, the ones that were just inside you and therefore covered in slick, inside your parted mouth.
“Shh, thats it.” He marveled as you sucked and cleaned his fingers like the good girl he knew you were.
Pulling them from your lips, he dragged the wetness across your cheek before crashing his lips to yours. You both made noises because the musky and sweetness of you lingered on your tongue. With your taste coating his tastebuds, he snapped.
Daryl parted from you before one hand gripped you and the other grabbed his cock, moving until you were sinking down onto him.
Your cries mingled with his groans; your tight, wet heat sucked him down and finally, he was inside you and filling you up, just like you’d wanted.
“Fuck, Daryl.” You whined, hips swiveling to get used to his size. You were torn between the relief of being filled to the brim and the discomfort because of how big he was.
“This what you wanted, huh? Just so fuckin’ needy you had to stop us in the fuckin’ road?” He grunted, a calloused hand coming to grip your throat, the tightness steadying you. “My filthy girl.”
Then, he thrusted up into you and the sound you made was like a symphony of music to his ears. Spurred on, he kept thrusting into your pussy, groaning at the wet, slippery sounds filling the car. You were so overwhelmed with pleasure and the feel of him that you just clung to him, rolling your hips and humping your clit against him as you took each thrust he gave you.
Though, one particular move was so fucking deep it had you mewl, fingernails digging into the soft skin of Daryl’s neck.
“Daryl,” you gasped, euphoria pumping through every crevice of your body. The buckle of his belt was now slick as your clit continued to hump. “So big— uh, uh— so big.”
His hand gripped your throat firmly, fastening his pace as helped you move with him by lifting your ass in tandem with his hips.
You were a mess; blubbering nonsense to him as your cunt repeatedly clenched down on him as you grew closer to your peak. Daryl was so high on you, your pretty sounds, and suddenly, he needed to see more of your skin.
He removed his grip from your ass to yank your shirt up and he let out a grunt as he saw your absence of a bra. Then, without any other preamble, his lips wrapped around a peaked nipple, sucking wetly.
The mix of his mouth making out with your chest and his cock filling you up at such a haste pace had you crying out, tears spilling down your cheeks as you shuddered on his lap.
Your orgasm had triggered his own; the feel of your sopping pussy squeezing him and your cry of pleasure sent him over the edge.
His moans were animalistic as he filled you to the brim, thrusts losing their rhythm as he pumped his spend into you.
“Daryl—“ you whispered, suddenly exhausted and wanting him closer to you, despite your limbs being intertwined with one another tightly. “Baby.”
“Such a good girl,” he spoke into your neck, making no move to remove his softening cock from you. Even if he did try, you wouldn’t let him. The crazed feeling you’d felt was finally soothed, his cock inside you released relief throughout your body.
Daryl brought a finger between your thighs and his cock twitched inside you as he collected both your orgasms. “Open.”
Because you’d do anything he told you, you wordlessly opened your mouth and moaned as he stuck come covered fingers between your lips. He watched you as you sucked his fingers clean, eyes hooded with tiredness.
“C’mon, gotta get home.” He patted your waist, adoration swirling in his chest as you made no move to return to your seat. In fact, you just scooted closer until your nose grazed his sweaty neck.
“Thought we needed to get stuff.”
“Nah, we’ll just say we couldn’ find anythin’” Daryl brought a hand to your hair, gently brushing your head as you pressed kisses to his collarbone.
You both stayed connected for awhile; maybe two minutes, maybe two hours. Being close with Daryl was exactly what you’d needed to feel a little less feral.
Though, as you both finally rolled through the gates with messy hair and flushed faces, everyone looked at you both knowingly.

shotgun - daryl dixon
Tumblr media
word count : 6.6k
summary : done with another stressful semester of your university, you invite your friends over for pizza and some pre-rolled joints you were dealt a few days ago. when a handsome stranger tags along, throwing all your plans off course, you fail to anticipate how well you flirt under influence.
authors note and warnings : daryl dixon/f!reader. drugs, shotgunning, unprotected piv sex, cum eating, some dry humping, religious guilt mentioned very briefly, build up, porn WITH plot, nsfw as fuck, high sex (both parties high and consent enthusiastically), daryl jerks you off as you jerk him off, reader with female reproductive parts. song for the fic also mentioned in the fic: girls need love by summer walker.
you don't remember the exact series of events that led a stranger to your bed, smoking your weed.
what you do remember is glancing at a text from glenn, your friend of five years, saying that he would be at yours for movie night along with his new roommate because "he seemed lonely and could use some friends."
to be completely fucking honest, you did not want to make a new friend. you did not need a new friend. you were fine with the way things were; glenn and his girlfriend maggie occupied enough of your social life for you not to feel lonely even in your one-bedroom apartment miles away from your university campus.
after an arduous day of working on your midterm papers, you just needed a good old movie night where you could sit in comfortable silence with your friends and then eventually pass out on the couch. the universe seemed to have different plans however.
it's not like you didn't understand why glenn was bringing his roommate over; you weren't heartless. hell, you have been in his position before: new to the town, no new friends, just you and four cartons of your stuff neatly packed with the help of your mother - who, by the way, did not make the move easy with her empty nest syndrome.
maybe this was a good thing. you often complained to glenn about how you needed to get out more and live out your college days to the fullest before you succumbed to capitalism and worked a dead-end job just to make ends meet. you didn't even have to go out of your house to make a new friend, he would be at your doorstep in about twenty minutes. and besides, glenn would bring free pizza from his work. you could play along for some free pizza.
the clock struck nine pm as you shut your laptop for the day and leaned back on your couch, exhausted. your fingertips hurt from typing incessantly, and your thighs were uncomfortably hot thanks to your piece of shit laptop.
tossing the device beside you, you walked to your bathroom to freshen up, try and look presentable. you wouldn't give a single fuck if it was only your friend group coming over, hell, they have seen you at your worst moments where you were crying over your life or throwing up from drinking too much and vice versa.
this was uncharted territory. sort of. you had seen glenn's roommate once when you visited glenn’s to grab the notes you lent him for intro to microeconomics. you couldn't even catch his name in the few seconds his room door was cracked open, followed by a wary glare through the sliver and a loud thud, shutting you out of his sight.
your eyelids dropped as you splashed water on your face, replaying your interaction with him to somehow analyze him by his dialogue, or lack thereof.
socializing had always been rocky for you, especially following social cues or maintaining a conversation without thinking that the other person could not give less of a shit about you.
if glenn's roommate was anything like glenn, a raging extrovert, he would do most of the talking and all you would have to do is nod and comment. judging by his reaction to seeing you the other day, however, you were afraid that he was more of an introvert compared to you.
as you picked an outfit for the night, something comfortable but presentable, you practiced your smile.
should you smile with your teeth, or offer an obligatory tight-lipped smile? did it seem fake? would it be interpreted as rude?
throwing on a black tank and some red flannel pants, some of your best clothes to sleep in, you felt anxiety glow red hot in your veins, twisting your gut horribly.
the way your body reacted to socializing was a bit much, in your opinion. you wouldn't actively worry about things, but your body acted in ways your brain didn’t. you couldn't figure out for the life of you what it was, and you weren't sure you wanted to.
a few deep breaths settled your stomach as you checked yourself in the mirror. you looked decent, and you could pass out comfortably in your living room. your hair was okay, not much could be done to it so you left it be.
it had been fifteen minutes, and glenn texted you saying that he was downstairs as a heads-up so you could "fix yourself up haha."
that little shit.
rolling your eyes, you texted him to fuck off and did a once-over around you to make sure your apartment was tidy enough. as you waited by the door, right foot tapping impatiently, that feeling returned, the one that made you want to throw up and shit your guts out simultaneously.
you heard a distant conversation from the hallway and straightened your clothes in preparation. as soon as you heard three raps on the door, you opened it immediately.
"wow that was quick, were you standing at the door waiting for us?" glenn greeted you with a box of pizza in his hand. you were about to tell him to eat shit but the smell of the food worked like a charm as you ignored his remarks and moved away from the door to let your friends, well, two friends and the stranger, in.
maggie’s arms caged you in, rocking you from side to side, "i haven't seen you in so long, how have you been!"
the girl smelled like roses, soothing your anxiety one nerve at a time. "i've been okay, just buried in exams and papers, like the usual..." you trail off, appreciating the bear hug she still had you in. you loved maggie, her voice, her energy, her eyes; everything about her made you feel lighter and absolved you of all worries.
so much so that you forgot about the figure standing awkwardly outside your door with a pack of beers in his right hand and his left stuffed in his pocket.
you widened your eyes, letting go of maggie with a kiss on her cheek.
"hey, nice to meet you, um... i'm sorry, i don't think we have met..."
"oh yeah! that's daryl, look at what he brought!" glenn exclaimed, setting the pizza down on the coffee table.
"beer," daryl commented, nodding to himself.
this is going to be fun, you thought, painfully, offering him a practiced smile to lighten his heavy aura.
daryl. his name certainly suited him. clad in all black, a silver chain hanging off his belt loops, and a top that looked like its sleeves had been ripped off. you didn’t hate the way that it revealed his surprisingly buff arms as he walked into the apartment, raising them and holding the booze, "where d'ya want this?"
his voice had a drawl to it; deep like a smoker’s, deeper with that country accent of his.
caught up in your own observations, your delayed response to daryl's simple question had glenn snicker, earning a quick and hopefully stabbing nudge from maggie.
pointing at your coffee table, you started, "so daryl, you new to this town?"
the man grunted a "yes" without any follow-up, which had you frantically search for the remote control of your tv, the best social lubricant at your disposal.
as you passed the remote control to glenn to put on a movie of his choice- since it was his turn this week- your view switched to daryl, sitting on the other side of the couch with his legs parted open and both arms resting on the cushions.
you tried overlooking the manspreading just this once.
he wore his hair down, strands covering his face dishevelledly. you wondered how it didn't bother him to have hair blocking his view or tickling his face. your gaze narrowed in, ignoring maggie and glenn arguing over which movie they wanted to watch.
daryl's eyes were focused… or too relaxed? you couldn't tell. the kajal on his lower waterline certainly made your gut flip in excitement, confusing you momentarily. he looked messy; the torn shirt, the ripped black pants, and even his greasy-looking hair for that matter. but even the short duration you knew him for, it suited him.
you kind of liked it.
“let’s watch jaws! please!” glenn protested, tugging on his girlfriend’s arm, to which she just rolled her eyes and shook her head.
“how many times do you wanna watch it?! no, pick sumn else.”
daryl didn’t care for their argument clearly, scoffing and reaching for a bottle of beer on the coffee table. the bottle looked comically small in his hands as you watched him buck his hips to fetch what looked like a lighter from his back pocket.
at this point, glenn and maggie were basically non-existent as you observed daryl holding the butt of the lighter to the bottlecap and flick it off in one swift motion. the sheer ease with which he undid the seal made you widen your eyes, an amused smile painting your lips.
you heard the faint tune of the theme song of jurassic park. the couple must have settled on a movie, finally, you thought. your eyes trailed every movement of daryl’s, focusing on the way he brought the mouth of the bottle to his lips, chugging down almost half of the drink, his adam’s apple bobbing prominently.
a foreign feeling blossomed at the bottom of your gut, making you shift in your seat. you watched intently as daryl separated the bottle from his mouth, leaving a glossy sheen on his bottom lip.
what the fuck was happening to you?
you didn’t know jack shit about daryl, you didn’t know his morals, or his background, or even had a proper conversation with him before. so why were suddenly fixing your hair and adjusting your clothes?
why did you care?
peeling your eyes away with great difficulty, you turned your attention to maggie who was reaching for a slice of pie, “what toppings did you get?”
“half mushroom and half jalapeno, no pepperoni this time though, they were out,”
you nodded at her, knowing full well your attention was still hung up on the standoffish man sitting across you. turning toward the tv, you leaned back in your seat, puffing your chest out for a deep breath and settling into the soft cushion behind you.
daryl remained silent and focused on the screen, occasionally snickering at the jokes and mumbling to himself as he nursed his beer. he really was an introvert. not the kind scared to talk, but the kind who would rather not; save his breath instead.
at that rate, you weren’t going to get to know him at all, and the tension in the air seemed to grow by the second, at least for you.
halfway through the movie, you exhaled, breaking the deafening silence from the sheer lack of conversation. daryl and maggie’s heads turned to you; glenn’s vision remained glued to the screen.
“this movie is so fucking boring, glenn!” you interrupted, finally snapping the boy out of whatever spell jeff goldblum's chest hair had him in.
“this is not fucking fair, did i ever complain about any of your movie picks?” he rolled his eyes, setting his fourth slice down inside the box, clapping the crumbs off his fingers.
“ask me if i care. we aren’t even talking, we’re just staring at this screen. look at maggie! she almost dozed off a couple of times!” you responded, leaning forward in your seat and pointing at the poor girl trying to keep her eyes open.
defeat washed across your friend’s face as he swung an arm around maggie to pull her in.
offering him the most shit-eating grin, you began, “i recently bought some pre-rolls as an after-exam-season treat… it’s purely indica so it won’t have us neurotic…” you trailed off, scanning your friends’ as well as daryl’s faces for approval.
maggie straightened her back, a glint in her eye you rarely witnessed. you knew glenn would never say no to a little bit of relaxation, especially after a long day at the shitty job he works.
“fuck yeah, now we’re talking.” daryl sighed, rubbing his temples and setting his beer down.
oh, so he was bored as fuck before.
you knew it had nothing to do with you whatsoever, especially because glenn was clearly at fault, although you couldn’t help but feel like you disappointed him.
a complete stranger who happened to catch your eye and can’t leave your mind.
holding up your index finger, you rushed to your bedroom, giddiness blinding your senses just at the mere thought of being the perfect host for your guests.
when you returned to the living room with a flat metallic box, the movie was turned off and maggie succeeded to connect her phone to your bluetooth speaker, shuffling through her numerous playlists before finally landing on one.
“you’re gonna like this song…” the girl pointed at you, her eyes following your figure the moment you stepped into the living room. tilting your head in confusion, you waited for the song to begin as the speaker turned on with three little beeps.
“honestly…” you heard from the speakers, ears perking up instantly. your eyes widened at maggie in excitement, your mouth falling agape.
daryl and glenn observed the two of you, confused at the sudden change in atmosphere.
as the instrumental in the background progressed, you rushed to your seat, nudging the lid of the box open with the pad of your thumb. the scent of weed, not the kind that stinks but is subtle and almost nostalgic, enveloped your senses. your fingers found themselves picking the well-rolled joint in your hands and asking someone for a light.
daryl grabbed his lighter, which you noticed had a sticker of a skull on it, and extended his hand. his buff, well-defined, muscular-
“you think one joint’s gonna be enough? i’m not a lightweight unlike this loser here,” daryl spoke in a full sentence for the first time, gesturing towards glenn as he flicked the lighter on and looked up at you. placing the joint between your lips, you craned your neck forward and leaned in to meet the flame halfway, two fingers ghosting in a ‘v’ under the cigarette in case it fell.
“i have plenty, daryl. getting high won’t be a problem,” you glanced up at him, through the flame, paying close attention to his eyes for the first time now that his hair was mostly out of the way.
his face bathed in the orangish hue of the flame, as did yours, revealing the true color of his eyes. they were a deep prussian blue; not what you expected but certainly liked. the spark from the lighter chipped away at the twisted head of the joint and bit the ground-up grass eventually.
sucking in, you breathed life into the stick between your lips, the head pulsing red-hot as you inhaled the smoke into your lungs. momentarily holding your breath, you exhaled, feeling an itch in your throat.
you forced a cough or two out of you before leaning back in your seat and processing the hit. your hand mindlessly raised the joint to maggie on your right, who grabbed it a little too quickly.
“honestly i’m trying to stay focused”
the song commenced, curving the edge of your lips upward. it might have been a placebo effect, the fact that you were a lightweight, or that you just hadn’t smoked in a while. but some of those reasons were catching up to you. fast.
glenn took several hits with ease, throwing his head back on the cushion and handing the roll to daryl.
“you must think i’ve got to be joking…”
his fingers, too thick for the small joint, held it with such care. like he would break it if he gripped it a little too hard. you watched the man take a long drag; his lips gently kissing the joint, drawing out the smoke to hold it down briefly before blowing it all out.
“i don’t think i can wait. i just need it now…”
you don’t know what awakened in you; maybe it was because your favorite song was playing, or that smoking looked especially attractive on him, or a combination of both, but your eyes widened unnaturally largely as you traced his movements; the movement of his lips around the cig, his chest heaving after a hit, his sharp collarbones on shameless display as he threw his head back in relief.
you were entranced.
“here.” he offered, reaching across the seating area with the joint in his hand.
you tried to make the exchange non-physical. you really did. but his fingers enveloped most of the joint and you had no choice but to fumble with them until you grabbed hold of the cigarette, his touch leaving your skin burning hot.
“i just need some dick… i just need some love…”
this was not relaxing in any way. you sat with this stranger you wanted to fuck as a song about wanting to fuck played in the background. you monitored your breathing and your posture; all of these efforts to impress this question mark of a man in your living room.
“fuck, i think i’m already high.” glenn coughed out, his head resting on maggie’s shoulder. you chuckled, nursing the joint once again.
you were not going to lie. the drug had gotten hold of you by now; your reactions were slightly delayed, you took longer to process what the other person said, and your eyelids hung lower than usual.
and there's the cottonmouth.
what trumps all of the above, however, is the pure euphoria climbing every fiber of your body. a harmony of numbness and freedom flowing through you, dusting the weight off your shoulders.
“you could be the one. we can start with a handshake, baby, i’mma need more than a hug…”
you might have underestimated the effects of weed on you. not only did it make you giggly and careless and hungry, but it also made you unbelievably horny. you looked up at daryl, a blunt weight on your eyelids having you cherish the softness of the cushions behind you. the pillow resting between your legs brushed against your core, throwing gasoline to the flame.
the nape of your neck felt hot as you swallowed thickly, trying to distract yourself from the situation at hand.
the bass from your speakers stimulated your body, vibrations traveling between your legs.
“girls can’t ever say they need it, girls can’t never say now…”
fuck, you wanted someone.
normally, you were fine being alone; it was difficult enough managing yourself, let alone someone else. and it isn’t like you didn’t have experience with romance; you had a couple of relationships in high school that obviously didn’t last. coming to university, however, made you realize just how not-ready you were to be involved with someone.
“hey can i take a nap on your couch?” maggie began, gently nudging glenn to make room for her head on his lap.
“already?” you teased the girl with no actual annoyance in your voice.
maggie nodded, tired and laying down on her boyfriend’s lap. you swore you heard daryl scoff slightly as glenn stroked maggie’s hair. you flashed a small, sort of obligatory smile at the couple on your couch.
the distance between you and daryl seemed to lengthen as half of your smoke circle was now passed out, leaving no one to pass the joint. your back strained, trying to close the gap between you and the man who did not seem to get high at all.
“hey, uh.. daryl? you high yet?”
“nah, i can go for a few more rounds.” he grunted kicking glenn’s leg in slight annoyance.
your eyes widened, bottom lip jutting out in admiration of his tolerance level, “you smoke often?”
“a lot of shit happens around… just easier to tolerate if you can forget for a while,” he spoke, bringing the roach to his lips.
“why not drink instead? why do you smoke?”
you knew you were testing the limits with this closed-off man, but how else were you supposed to get to know him?
daryl cocked an eyebrow, and you could hear him question why it was any of your business to know anything about his life.
“i’m not a good drunk.”
silence washed into the room, leaving you pouting your lips, trying to segue the conversation into something lighter.
“i like your skull tattoo.” you commented, eyeing the back of his hand. you realized it looked exactly like the sticker on his lighter. that seemed to have caught his attention noticing his slightly raised eyebrows.
“can you guys shut the fuck up?” a drowsy voice interrupted your conversation.
“what the fuck do you want us to do huh?” you retorted, turning towards glenn, who was scrunching his face in irritation.
“go inside or something i don’t fucking know!”
you would have usually kicked him off the couch for behaving like the annoying brother he is, but you had to think this through. there was a way this could turn out well for you.
‘going inside’ meant that you would be alone with daryl, probably on your bed too since there wasn’t any other seating inside your room. you looked at daryl, raising your eyebrows suggestively.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
your room was slightly colder than your living room; something about the building ventilation being fucked up. daryl didn’t seem to care, shedding the sleeveless vest he had on, his biceps flexing in the process. you eyed the posters on your wall with criticism, hoping none of them were embarrassing.
“you like breaking bad huh?” daryl commented, pointing at your wall. you nodded, a smile pulling at your lips.
“good show. you got good taste.”
your chest swelled with pride, muscles around your mouth in pain from how hard you smiled. a chill from your aircon trailed up your spine, your arms hugging either side of your torso in an attempt to warm up. daryl glanced at you, specifically your breasts pushing up against each other, momentarily, before sitting on the foot of the bed with the dying roach in his hand.
you turned off the fluorescent white central lighting in your room before pressing the switch for your calmer, dimmer lamp.
“shit was hurtin’ my eyes, thanks.” you heard daryl chuckle.
“yeah, the landlord hates me, i swear. had to get candles because that light is just so fucking ugly,” you spoke, a laugh bubbling up. the smile on your face had not left since you entered your room. the full-body euphoria made you giggly, even in the company of a stranger.
sitting down on the other side of the bed, you dug into the metal box once again, fumbling with the tempting joints as your vision blurred softly. you felt his gaze burn into your skin as you sat in your dimly lit room.
“you play guitar?” he questioned, looking away from you and at the metallic blue electric guitar placed in the corner of your room.
“a little… i’m still learning though… you?”
“used to.” daryl responded, fishing his lighter out as soon as you stopped fumbling with the joint.
repeating the same routine; sticking the joint between your lips and leaning into him, overestimating the space between the two of you this time, you climbed toward him, fists digging into your mattress as you waited for him to give you the light.
you didn’t pay attention to the way your tank top dropped low in front of him, or how quick his eyes were to check you out before nudging the flame toward the joint.
you sucked on the cigarette, eyebrows knitting in pain from the delicious burn spreading through your lungs, not breaking eye-contact with the man in your bed. you exhaled slowly, the back of your head landing on the headboard with a thud, “fuuuuck… i missed this.”
daryl tilted his head, “yeah? why? you take a break?”
“well, i get addicted to things easily… and religious guilt and whatnot…” you answered, feeling weird about your sudden transparency.
daryl raised his eyebrows, “that’s heavy shit, you don’t gotta tell me twice.”
you pass the joint to daryl, his fingers sizzling against yours for the millisecond-long touch. the scent of weed fogged your senses as he blew the smoke out, coughing immediately after.
your nerves undid themselves one after the other, head swaying to a non-existent rhythm. this strain was strong. you had forgotten how dangerously easy it was to not give a fuck when you were high.
do something, say something, you scolded yourself, scanning daryl’s figure on your bed. it felt like the universe had dropped a gift on your lap and you, for some reason, refused to open it.
your inner teenager activated the second you sat down on your bed with him, letting your thoughts run wild.
the blunt ache between your thighs grew more unbearable by the second as you wondered how his lips would feel; how they’d taste.
you wanted to be near him and feel his fingers, his warmth around you. but nothing was going to happen if you didn’t close the gaping distance between the two of you. you parted your lips, heart beating faster than ever. if he shot you down, it would be the worst high of your life and you would just have to live with that.
your mouth acted before the sober part of your mind did, popping the first question in your mind.
“you ever shotgunned?”
daryl stopped fiddling with his lighter to look at you, darting his tongue out to wet his bottom lip; that same glossy sheen sent a jolt of lightning to the bottom of your gut.
you tried filling in the silence, “you know… inhaling smoke fro-”
the man nodded hesitantly, hair moving toward his face, “i know what it is.” the drone of his accent budded excitement in your chest.
you cocked an eyebrow and inched closer to him, “i haven’t.”
he stopped all movement, looking up at you to process the loss of space between him and you.
“how does it feel?” you tilted your head, shame or dignity nowhere to be found within you.
daryl’s chest heaved as he brought the joint in his hand to his lips. you watched him, processing his movements, heart beating faster than usual. his lips worked fast around the pre-roll, leaving you wondering whether he would look the same between your legs.
your thighs squirmed, body feeling smaller and smaller in front of the man leaning closer and closer to you. his hands cupped your face, the cool metal of his rings contrasting his burning fingertips.
your lips parted as you looked up at him through your eyelashes, surrendering into his hold. pulling your face in, he switched his gaze from one eye of yours to the other.
the strong yet subtle aroma of his cologne mixed with the frankly delicious scent of the drug scrambled your senses. daryl looked down, blowing smoke in a thin stream, refusing to look away from where the smoke met your lips.
like a reflex, you inhaled, hands grabbing at his legs for balance.
the room seemed to darken in comparison to the man holding your face. suddenly he and you were the only objects in the world, floating. daryl’s hold loosened as you inhaled for what felt like years of your life.
“how about that?”
your breath staggered, processing what happened a second ago. you nodded, not pulling away from him.
daryl was definitely high. a pinkish hue masked his eyes, eyelids drooping down lower than usual, and a mindless smile playing on his lips. you could say the same for yourself, still processing the position you were in with a handsome stranger you met, thanks to glenn.
“that was.. um… yeah. fun…” you struggled to find the words, still looking into his cold eyes. you shifted your weight, the flannel of your pants rubbing deliciously against your core, making you hitch your breath.
“you gon’ pull away?” he spoke, not letting go.
“you gonna let go?” you retorted, not pulling away.
you had to grow some balls. here you were, getting high with someone you actually were interested in after a long time. that was not the right time to second- guess yourself.
fingers tracing his jaw, you leaned in.
“daryl. can i kiss you?”
you could see the gears turn in his head as you waited for what felt like years for a response. not a word was spoken. the dim lamps lit the back of his head casting an angel like glow to his silhouette.
he brought the flaming end of the joint to his tongue, putting out the embers with a soft sizzle.
you widened your eyes, “what the fuck, how did that not hurt-”
silence.
the softest pair of lips on yours shut you right up, your nose finding warmth against his skin. daryl pulled you in, fingers reaching for your hair.
what was happening?
you kissed back, sitting up straight to find balance. his hands roamed your back and stopped at the small of it. he tightened his grip around the fabric of your tank top and pulled you in. your chest leaned flush against his, feeling the outlines of his several silver chains on your breasts.
your lips grew hot with every kiss you planted on his, his tongue swiping your bottom lip before biting it gently. the very involuntary moan he pulled out of you, had his chest heaving. your fingers found his small waist, relishing the way he felt under your touch.
daryl pulled away, muttering a string of “fuck”s , eyeing you head to waist, “you sure you want to?”
you deadpanned, mouth open at the man’s obliviousness, “yeah, i’m kissing you back because i don’t want you.”
“hey, no sarcasm. yes or no?”
“yes, daryl. you?”
“hell, yeah,” he nodded, pulling you in with one arm as he made himself more comfortable on your bed.
you pressed kisses on his neck, arms anchoring yourself around him on the cream-colored sheets. his shoulders settle, a long sigh escaping his lips. the grip of your fingers on his waist tightened when you caught the scent of his cologne mixed with the cigarettes you assume he had been smoking all day.
he leaned back on your pillow, eyelids dropping as he spread his legs to sink further down on the mattress. you tugged at the waistband of his jeans, signaling him to undo his belt. as he worked on his pants, you were quick to shed your tank, revealing your bra.
daryl stopped fumbling with his belt to look at you, breathing getting heavier, cock stirring at the mere sight of a topless you.
“daryl!” you reminded, noticing how distracted he was. watching him undo the zipper on his pants and push them down had you drooling in anticipation. you did not know it was possible to drool at the sight of someone, but there you were.
you started unbuttoning his shirt, peppering kisses from the nape of his neck to his collarbones, taking your sweet time to taste him. your other hand, having a mind of its own, palmed him through his boxers, fishing his first moan for the evening.
“you like it when i do that?” your open mouthed kisses made their way to the shell of his ear.
“fuck… yeah, do it again.”
following a soft chuckle, your legs straddled his waist as you helped him remove his shirt. you weren’t surprised when his tattoos were revealed, or his numerous chains for that matter. what you were intrigued about, however, were his scars.
scars scattered across his torso, some covered up with tattoos, some not.
“oh, um. yeah, these-”
“you don’t have to tell me.”
he nodded, relief washing over him. you sensed the hesitation in his voice as he tried to explain. you could tell that was not the time, clearly.
one of your hands slipped under his boxers, feeling his length. daryl’s mouth dropped open, eyes rolling back at your touch.
daryl was big. not just length-wise either; your fingers wrapped around him but barely met as you stroked up and down his shaft. his heartbeat quickened as he bucked his hips into your palm, desperate for more friction.
you had forgotten all about the pathetic state of your arousal between your legs, completely focused on making the guy writhing under your touch feel good.
so imagine your surprise when he mirrored you, his right hand sliding down your underwear to rub at your clothed clit.
you noticed daryl smile mindlessly, wondering what amused him in the middle of getting a hard-on.
“you get this wet for a stranger?”
a jolt of lightning shot up your pussy as you detached your lips from his neck, rocking against his thick fingers to meet his eyes.
“i wouldn’t be talking shit ab-... about someone who’s got your dick in their hand,” you replied, trying to concentrate on your hand and hip coordination.
“just a- fuck … just observing,” he whimpered through heavy breaths, eyeing your chest.
his fingers deftly hooked the fabric of your underwear to pull them to the side. before you could brace for impact, the coolness of his touch met the warmth of your pulsating clit, applying minimal pressure.
“daryl, fuck, can you just-” you pleaded, grinding harder against his fingers.
“nah,” you felt his smile through the kisses on your neck as his other hand unhooked your bra with ease.
you were so fucking close. but this was a competition, an unspoken one, but one nonetheless.
trying your best not to give in to his frankly skilled fingers working your pussy, your own stroked the head of his cock, earning a choked moan from the man who momentarily stopped all movement in utter surprise.
the bouts of energy shooting up your core were ten times more intense because of the weed. and maybe, probably, definitely because of daryl. that toy in your nightstand couldn't make you clench around nothing like his fingers did just a few seconds ago.
your biggest mistake was thinking that you had gotten the best of him. his focus, although seemingly on your breasts bouncing in his face, was on his own fingers, rubbing at your folds before sliding a digit down your slit and dipping into you.
head thrown back and eyes rolling to the back of your head, you gasped in your highest voice, painful pleasure coursing through your veins.
the pad of his thumb rubbed circles on your clit, the rest of his digits gathering your arousal to rub the folds of your pussy.
“this is to- too much, oh i feel so fucking good-”
“hush now, you don't wanna wake them up,” he reminded you, the stubble on his chin scratching against the soft skin on your tits. bringing his mouth to one of your nipples, he nibbled softly, massaging your other breast with his free hand.
you brought the hand previously wrapped around him to your mouth, spitting on your palm and pulling him out of his boxers before covering him with your saliva.
it was his turn to try and be quiet, teeth sinking down on his lower lip as he watched you jerk him off, smearing your spit on his tip and dipping into the slit of his cock with your thumb.
“where’d’ya lear- … learn all this?” the drawl in his voice grew raspier.
“i got my ways,” you looked up at him, mind hazy as ever, yet still focused on what was at hand. literally.
you don’t know what came over you when you pulled away from him entirely to take your pants off. daryl watched you strip, eyes raking your naked silhouette.
“what are you doi-” he began, trying to put two and two together. you climb back into your bed, pulling daryl in by his arms.
reaching for his cock, you straddled his waist, pulling your panties aside and slapping his shaft against your folds, the mere sound of contact sending shockwaves to your gut.
you rocked into his shaft, rubbing yourself up on him, your arousal smothering the tip of his cock almost immediately.
the warmth of your core sent daryl over the edge as his hands gripped firmly at your waist, rubbing his shaft up and down your slit.
your hands grabbed his thighs, massaging them steadily as the two of you continued to grind against each other, the tiniest of frictions bringing you closer to the edge.
“daryl, i don’t think i can last longer i-”
“me neither sunshine, you wanna do the honors?”
you nodded, wetting your lips and chasing your high. the sinful noises of his cock rubbing up against your pussy as you grow wetter by the second only help you as you bounce up and down against him faster and harder.
you panted his name, eyes shut and nails clawing his biceps, the tip of his cock swollen pink and pulsating.
as you focused on cumming, you didn't notice his thumb pressing down on your clit in one swift motion, sending white-hot flashes through your nervous system, your pussy clenching around nothing. his finger did not leave your clit, even when you fell back on the mattress, feeling your orgasm crescendo as your body shook in sheer euphoria.
you gripped your sheets, whimpering through the orgasm as you bit your fingers to stay quiet. tears of pleasure threatened to spill from your eyes when you arched your back at your final clench before letting go in exhaustion, clit throbbing bluntly from the aftermath of your climax.
your eyes flickered to daryl’s cock, the head leaking with precome as he watched you cum around his cock. he swallowed thickly, hands inching closer to your figure.
“daryl, you wanna come on my tits?”
eyebrows raised, he nodded hurriedly, climbing on top of a very topless you, and stroking himself. it still seemed as if he held back on cumming too soon even though you were the first one to do so.
cocking an eyebrow, you massaged the inside of his thighs, inching closer and closer to his pelvis before cupping his balls.
a guttural moan escaped his lips, the hand on his cock speeding up its pace. his mouth fell open, “fuck fuck fuck i’m coming, im coming-”
his climax painted your chest as his elbow propped himself up near your head, trying not to collapse on you.
your fingers played with the liquid, smearing it on your breasts before bringing them to your mouth and pushing them past your lips.
daryl, still recovering from his orgasm, took notice of that, a small smile playing on his lips before kissing you. the slightly salty taste of his own climax flooded his mouth as he felt your fingers thread his hair.
pulling away, you stared at him, the sheen on sweat on his forehead and chest a pretty reminder of what just happened between the two of you.
“you treat all your houseguests like this?” you heard him through the pulsation now in your ears.
that comment earned him a playful slap on the arm. “gonna help me clean this up first?” your eyes pointed toward your tits.
“depends, can i sleep over?” he questioned, already on his way to grab some tissues, letting you know he was joking around.
you giggled, sitting up to face him, “you can come over anytime you want daryl, you bring the weed next time though.”
you swore you heard him chuckle before saying, “deal.”

Hi! I was thinking about a run that ends up being too long because of something like a heard , were Daryl and the reader have to stay the night in a library. The reader is a big fan of books and she knows a lot about literature (maybe you can say she was a student of a literature degree back before the outbreak). Daryl is like 'I've never really read any book' or 'noone read anybook for me when I was little' and reader ends up reading one of her favourites to him while he lays his head on her lap and she tuches his hair or something fluffy like that. Some of my favorite books include Carrie, The Picture of Dorian Gray and Lord of the Rings; just if you wanted inspiration for the book that she reads him.
I hope you like the idea!

AN ~ This idea is so cute, I love it! But I am sorry to the person who requested this because I took way longer to write this than I usually would. It’s just been sitting in my drafts for a while now, but I finally got around to writing out the idea. Thank you for being patient and I hope you enjoy!
Tumblr media
Your lungs started to burn, your legs beginning to weaken as you continued to run as fast as you could, desperately trying to keep up as the two of you quite literally ran for your lives. Somehow the run you both volunteered to take just turned into one giant disaster, one thing falling apart after another.
It was the dead of winter, the group hopping from place to place ever since the loss of the farm, and everything always running low. All the supplies you managed to have saved went out the window in a flash, leaving you with almost nothing when you had numerous people to feed. So desperate times called for desperate measures, leading to you and Daryl leaving early that morning, trudging through the cold weather and into a small town nearby in hopes that they had at least something to bring back for the others. But luck wasn’t really on your side.
There were a couple small buildings the two of you came across, a few cans of food here and there that you could easily toss into your bags. Though none of it was nearly enough to feed all the people you had. The thought alone saddened you to no end, coming to the realization of how complicated everything was now that you were out on the road constantly. You found yourself not even really knowing how good you had it back when you had sanctuary, a safe place to sleep at night, food…it was all very frustrating.
But you knew you were preaching to the choir as everyone else was easily feeling the same way as you, defeated and exhausted twenty-four-seven now. Though that wasn’t necessarily the only thing going wrong at the moment. The group itself was much more tense than it ever was before, the whole atmosphere seeming to change ever since that night Rick broke down completely. The loss of Shane and Lori being pregnant was taking a toll on him that no one else could understand, leading to him taking it out on everyone else. A part of you almost wondered if you and Daryl subconsciously took this run on purpose just to get away from all of that for a few hours.
Though that wasn’t the only reason you wanted to go, another part of you wanted to be able to bring something back. You wanted to be the one to lift their spirits, hoping that you and Daryl would come across something that would bring back that light. But then again, luck wasn’t on your side.
Unbeknownst to the two of you as you searched, a large herd of walkers were slowly limping their way down the streets of the small town, making even more noise the closer they approached. Eventually you both perked up at the sudden familiar sounds, walking out of the building you were once in to see the group coming straight towards you, their jaws hanging and their arms stretched out with the intention to tear into you.
“Go.” was all Daryl said as he pushed you to run first, sprinting down the narrow streets in hopes to find somewhere to hide. Most of the stores you came across were completely locked up tight, and it was too late to turn back into the one you once occupied. So according to you, you were pretty much fucked.
The two of you looked around frantically as you ran, adrenaline pumping through your system as your heart pounded roughly against your chest. There was close to nothing else around, nowhere else to shield yourselves behind as they slowly crept up closer, surprisingly fast with how slow they appeared to move. It now seemed that last bit of bad luck had wiped out all the hope that was left in your being.
That is until Daryl came across a door neither of you had tried before, tugging at it as it surprisingly flew open loudly. Relief filled your chest as you didn’t hesitate to book it inside the space, Daryl following in close behind you before he slammed the door shut again. The two of you then frantically looked around for only a moment, before shoving a few pieces of furniture near the double doors to block off the walkers that would surely try to push their way inside. As expected, they began to pound on the structure from the outside, sending the two of you flying back a few steps as you caught your breath, making sure they weren’t strong enough to push through.
Though after listening for a few passing seconds, it was clear they weren’t getting inside anytime soon, leaving you able to slightly relax as you hunched over to place your hands on your knees, your breathing still heavy.
Daryl noticed out of the corner of his eye, reaching out to place a hand on your shoulder, “You alright?”
You nodded as you stood back up straight, “Yeah…that was just…too close.” you sighed, running a hand stressfully through your hair.
He huffed, “Yeah…shit’s messy all over the damn place apparently.” he commented, clearly referring to how much had happened in the span of only about a month, or maybe two. You weren’t totally sure, but what you did know was that the whole thing felt like an eternity.
You found yourself wordlessly nodding in agreement, turning away from him momentarily as you grew curious as to where you had ended up. It had grown dark outside with how long the two of you stayed out searching, leading the place being completely pitch black as well. Nothing but a brief glimpse of moonlight shining through the small windows.
You reached back to the side of your backpack, pulling out your flashlight and flicking it on to see a plethora of bookshelves lined up in the large space, your face also seeming to light up in the process. It had been way too long since the last time you came across so many shelves stuffed full of mountains and mountains of books.
But apparently Daryl was less than amused, scoffing to himself as he looked around as well, “Great…we’re stuck inside some damn Barnes and Noble.”
You gave him a look, “It’s a library, Daryl.” you said in an unimpressed tone.
He raised an eyebrow towards you in response, “Yer tellin me there’s a difference?” he asked in amusement.
Your mouth parted to respond, but your mind came up blank as you slowly came to the realization that there really wasn’t much of a difference at all. He chuckled as he watched you grow silent, nudging your side before taking out his own flashlight. “You go ahead and take the left, I’ll take the right. Gotta make sure this place is safe.” he muttered before slowly walking off.
You followed his lead as you turned to head in the other direction, shining your light in different parts of the area to make sure there weren’t any lingering walkers nearby inside with the two of you. Though you couldn’t hear anything besides the corpses still banging on the outside, it was better to be safe than sorry. But everything was eerie and quiet as you passed by the many tall bookshelves, the scene itself almost making you more paranoid that something was going to just jump out at you out of nowhere. The area looked almost untouched however, causing you to smile a little to yourself at the thought of raiders and survivors just passing this place by because well…it was just a library. But you found yourself just the smallest bit excited, always knowing you were a bit of a bookworm at heart.
Your gaze continued to lazily scan the space for any danger, when all of a sudden, a certain section to your right caught your eye and made you stop in your tracks. The sign read in big blocked letters: Horror. That brought a big smile to your face as you found that was your favorite genre to read back when you actually had the time to read. You loved the thrill, the suspense, everything it had to offer as it left goosebumps on your skin. Something about those kinds of books always drew you in, in a way you couldn’t really understand.
The covers and titles easily had you distracted, hovering toward them just to take a peek at what this place had to offer. And to your surprise there were a fair amount of good finds. The Exorcist, Rebecca, Frankenstein, Salem’s Lot. You found yourself going deeper down the rabbit hole as your eyes scanned the spines of them thoroughly, wondering how many you would be able to actually fit in your bag to take back. Because the truth was you missed being able to read, wanting something simple like this again to pass the time like you used to.
“The hell you doin?”
You physically felt yourself jump out of your skin at his sudden presence, holding a hand up to your chest as you let out a shuddering breath. “Holy shit…don’t do that.” you said as you reached over to push his chest gently.
He laughed softly in response as he raised an eyebrow at you, “I can tell ya what yer not doin.” he hinted, “How’s the left side lookin?”
You shrugged, “It seems...safe enough…” you smiled sheepishly.
“Uh huh.” he muttered.
“I got distracted, okay?” you said with a light laugh before your gaze fell back on where you were once looking, “I mean I can’t even remember the last time I saw this many books.”
The man paused for a minute as he watched your expression, how it seemed to light up even more in the darkness as you looked back to all the covers you still had yet to pick through. A sense of fondness washed over him as he watched you obviously gush over something you were passionate about. He wanted you to speak more about it, wanting to listen to your voice go on and on about the things you loved most about them, but he was almost too embarrassed to ask.
Though after a few moments of silence, his frame leaned up against the shelf to his left as he continued to stare, “Didn't know you were a reader.” he commented.
You shrugged as you didn’t break your gaze away from the book you pulled out to look at, “I guess I just never mentioned it…” you trailed off as you read the short summary on the back, before placing it up in it’s place again, “But I used to read all the time. What about you, you got any favorites?” you asked as you looked back towards him with a small and exciting smile.
It was an innocent question really, but all Daryl could do was pathetically shrug, not really wanting to go into depth about the real answer.
But you tilted your head at him as you wanted to know, genuinely growing curious, “Oh come on. You have to at least have one.”
Daryl scoffed as he looked back up to you, “I…I ain’t ever really…” he trailed off again before letting out a harsh sigh, “Look, I ain’t ever read anythin before, alright? I don’t got no favorite.”
You were slightly taken aback, almost not believing him at first. But his face and tone were nothing but serious, showing you that he was telling the truth about having not read a single book in his life. “...Really?” you asked softly, “Not even in school or anything?”
He huffed out a small chuckle, “Ya mean when I actually went ta school? Yeah…don’t really think readin was at the top of my priority list.”
You rolled your eyes playfully, “Okay, fine. But seriously, no one ever read anything to you? Not even your…”
The two of you froze when you trailed off, though it was obvious what you were about to say. You knew of his past, how hard things were on him when he was a kid, you honestly didn’t even mean to let that last part slip as if you had forgotten. You hadn’t. But now you just wished you could take it all back as you felt ashamed and utterly embarrassed, a part of you also feeling terrible that he had never had that kind of comfort before.
In your childhood home, it was somewhat of a nightly routine that your parents would read you a short story every night before bed. You always loved that part, getting all snuggled up while your eyes slowly fluttered closed, hearing the soothing sound of their voices as they spoke until you were fast asleep. Now realizing that Daryl had never even had a sliver of that, brought a small frown to your face. But in a way, it also made you a little determined to make it up to him somehow.
Your eyes slowly trailed back to the bookshelf for a moment or two, before your eyes widened ever so slightly when you caught a glimpse of an all too familiar title. Carrie by Stephen King was one of your favorite books of all time, the plot being so interesting it left you at the edge of your seat as you went on. It was almost like some sort of sign to you as an idea formed in your head.
“Well…” you spoke quietly as you reached up to grab it, “It looks like we could be stuck in here for a while.” you mentioned, jutting your thumb back towards the doors where the walkers were still lingering. “What if I read to you?”
His eyes whipped back up to look at you, his face almost unreadable as he processed what you had just said. At first he wanted to decline, not because he didn’t want to hear the gentleness of your voice reading aloud to him, that sounded like a damn dream. But he didn’t want you to do something like this out of guilt, like you pitied him for not having that kind of luxury you used to have. It honestly wasn’t that big of a deal, something he hadn’t really thought about until now. But not even he could deny that as he stewed over it, he found himself missing out on something else from his childhood that he could never get back.
“Nah,” he shook his head as he stood up a bit straighter, “You don’t gotta do that, it’s alright.” he assured.
But your brows furrowed as you shook your head, “But I want to. I think it’ll be…nice.” you said honestly, wanting to reassure him that you actually wanted to do this.
He took in a breath as he studied your facial expression, seeing you were truly being genuine and sincere, and that warmed his heart more than you were able to imagine. You truly were the sweetest person he had ever met, constantly treating him with kindness ever since you had first met. And that only made his tough exterior soften in an instant.
“Alright…if you’re sure…” he finally agreed hesitantly.
You smiled brightly at him, “I’m sure.” you promised, nodding your head back for him to follow you to find a place to sit for the time being. Neither of you knew how long you would be trapped in here. A few hours? Overnight? You weren’t sure, but one thing you did know was that the two of you did not want to go back to the group just yet. You could almost feel the tension radiating from all the way over here when they were miles and miles away.
The flashlight in your hand shined down towards a spot where there were a few cushioned seats, causing you to pick the one placed in the corner before you plopped down, removing the bag from your shoulders in the process. As your body was turned away for just a brief moment, you then felt Daryl sit down beside you, before he adjusted himself to where his head was gently resting in your lap. Your eyes quickly glanced back down to look at him, catching the small smile he had on his face as he stared up at you softly. You couldn’t help but smile back, shaking your head a little to try and focus. But it was hard to do when his eyes were piercing, so clearly full of gentleness and care.
“Okay, so this right here is a classic.” you said as you pointed to the cover, “It’s one of my favorite horror novels, and I actually think you’ll really like it.”
His eyes moved over the cover as he nodded along, “Do I get ta hold yer hand if I get scared?” he suddenly teased with a small smirk.
You laughed quietly, “Sure, tough guy, you can hold my hand.”
He chuckled lightly as he nodded, watching you intently as you opened up the book, using the light of the flashlight you placed behind you to be able to see the tiny words on the pages. You squinted a little at first, before your soft voice began to read out loud to him, already feeling himself relax a little more at something so simple. If he was being completely honest with himself, he didn’t really care what you were reading. You could be reciting words from the English dictionary for all he cared. There was just something about hearing your voice in general that sent a wave of peace through him.
Eventually as the minutes flew by with the two of you engrossed in the events happening, your other hand traveled down to his hair, running your fingers through it gently. Daryl felt his heart flutter in his chest at the mindless action, almost as if it was second nature to you, making his eyes involuntarily close as he sighed deeply. He hadn’t felt this calm, this comforted by someone he cared about deeply in quite a long time. In fact, he seemed to question to himself if he ever had this feeling. The realization seemed to hit him then, but he almost didn’t care. He was just happy he had someone in his life now that was willing to give him all of that and more.
You noticed quickly however how his breathing seemed to change as he still laid beneath you, your eyes moving down to look at his face and see that he had fallen asleep after only barely getting through about three chapters. A small smile stretched across your face, closing the book and placing it back down beside you as your hand continued to gently run through the locks of his thick hair. Your eyes moved over the calm features of his face, taking in the fact that you had given him something that you once used to cherish. The unwinding feeling of someone reading you to sleep.
“Thank you…” his voice suddenly spoke quietly, moving to get even more comfortable in your lap as he drifted off.
In an instant your eyes seemed to glisten with tears at the simple gratitude, seeing how precious he really was. “Of course.” you whispered back, blinking away your tears as you hesitated for a moment, before leaning down to place a soft kiss on his forehead.
And after that night you two spent together, you found yourself always trying to do the little things for him to make him feel safe. Because those were the things you found that mattered the most.
~ Thanks for reading!

Daryl read you like a book.
Vamp!Daryl x reader, smut
It came naturally with how long the two of you had been together these days. Since before the dead started walking the two of you had been inseparable. You had plans for your future, but those got ruined when the dead first rose.
The hopes came and went with each and every new settlement. From the quarry, to the prison, the farm inbetween those, but none stuck long enougg to deem it safe enough. Not for a huge the commitment of having a child.
Those dreams were nothing but old memories now, with Daryl's newest issues he got from running into an even less friendly kind of undead not long before arriving in Alexandria. A kind that stopped Daryl's heart and lowered his core temperature to thst of a dead man and gave him a thirst for human blood. You came to the realisation it ruined even more of Daryl's human functions after you tried so hard now that you finally had a safe space but the seed never took.
Daryl saw through your lies of being okay with it. The everlasting chants of "It's better this way." But he knew how much it hurt you. Before the world ended your eyes would have that sparkle in them whenever you saw mothers with their babies but now that sparkle turned into tears threatening to spill.
It was the worst during the times Rosita and Michonne had just given birth, seeing them breastfeed their little ones with the most love and adoration you had ever seen.
There were times you thought Daryl was still out and cried yourself to sleep, but he heard you each and every time.
"Yer starin', hun." Daryl held your waist as you both stood in the doorway of the community hall where Daryl had gotten stuck by accident this morning. The meeting took so long it went on till morning, so you came to visit him.
A sad sigh left your lips as you looked away from the woman across the street who was feeding her baby and enjoying the sun on the porch. "M'sorry.. I gotta head out anyways, guard shift." With a last kiss you left your partner at the door, only seeing him again after the sun had set late in the evening.
You were settled in bed already with a novel by the time he got back. Daryl left his shoes at the door. His vest on the back of the usual dinner table chair and his shirt was in his hands when he made it up the stairs.
"Hey, welcome back." The smile on your face was the only thing that still warmed his cold, dead heart, and he was determined to cheer you up and make that smile a genuine one tonight.
"Hi, hun.." His voice gave away his lack of strength. He hadn't fed since the meeting started, close to twenty-four hours earlier. He needed to feed, and you'd happily give him what he needed so you put your book away and offered him your arm where old puncture wounds sat in varying stages of healing.
But he didn't bring your wrist to his mouth ad he settled on the bed. His hand moved along the length of your arm and down your torso to take off your top, exposing your upper body.
"Daryl, what are you doing?" The two of you hadn't been intimate in a long time, not wanting to be reminded of the hurt it caused you both. "Jus' relax, lemme make it nice fer us both."
Daryl's words had your curiousity piqued and your eyes following his every move from where he started at the edge of the bed to where he now moved to lay on top of you, umderneath the blankets.
"You're being weird." With a smile on your face you kissed the top of his head as he planted kisses on your chest.
"M'bein' nice." Daryl's hands were on your waist , then on the sides of your ribcage before they ended on your chest, squeezing, kissing and licking all over them. You let out a moaned laugh at the tickle of his fingertips and rolled your hips up against his stomach making him growl deep in his throat.
You never watched while he fed. The sight of his monstrous side wasn't one youbwanted to remember may something ever happen to him, but now you watched.
The veins under his skin blackened, spreading from black scleras that surrounded deep red irises. His normally stubby fangs were now long and sharp, ready to bite down and feed from you. His ears had pointed and so had his nails that softly clawed at your sides.
He dragged his long, pointy tongue across one of your tits with a pleased hum at your shiver, grinning so wide it looked like his face had split open. Still, with the gentlest touch he kissed your nipple.
You watched as he opened his mouth. Watched as his fangs pierced your skin, just above your nipple and latched onto it.
You watched as he fed from you. Mimicking a newborn feeding off their mother. Your hands moved on their own, caressing his cold flesh, tracing the scars on his back as he laid with his arms wrapped around you for warmth.
You felt his hard cock against your leg, but he disn't seem bothered by it in the slightest. He was content just feeding and pleasing you in the meantime. He fed off your blood and warmth, giving you all that you wanted.
The need to nurture, but also the realization that even without a child of your own, you had someone who needed you.
His monstrous outside no longer scared you, knowing what laid underneath would never think of hurting you. Your lover had changed over the years, you had lost your personal heater and with that the chance of starting your own family. But you gained a protector, one who may never suffer from a walker bite but needed you more than anything to keep walking beside you.
He needed you as much as you needed him.
So from now on, you watched.

Notes: ALRIGHTTTT!!! these dorks are finally… “a punta de caramelo” JAJAJA ready to party, I think, enough build up… Alright…the timing in this chapter might be a little flimsy, but what’s important are those dorks so… let’s do this!
Tumblr media
You waved Daryl and Aaron goodbye as they went through the gates and out of Alexandria, you wanted to be optimistic, but still, you still felt a bit sad that Daryl had left you here, you didn’t even trip once! Has it been so bad for him? you had such a good time. It had been a lovely  day. But still, he had been right about the run the day before, so, if he said it, he must have a reason.
The dead had been buried, and even though your family had taken a big hit, you needed to keep going, this is what the new world looked like, you mourn your dead by keeping living, and that is how you needed to proceed.
Real or not you had a mission now that Rick had put on you, search for an alternative, a plan B, some houses to go to if Alexandria goes poorly.
Your meetings with Reg about “development” had been canceled indefinitely, of course, he was mourning his son, so now that Daryl was gone you had to keep your hands busy.
You had become comfortable in the days you had been here, and today, you were determined, you went to see a person that was going to help you get the skills that you needed to become stronger to approach the new mission.
“Espinoza”, you called with a wide smile on your face, she was already smiling when she turned, you found her by the trucks that needed fixing.
“... I just realized I don’t know your last name”, she said with a frown
“Well, it’s very native, ANYWAYS”, you said with a wide smile, “I wanted to ask you something…”
“Tell me”, she said
“Well… I can’t think of anyone better to help me improve my upper body strength”, you said softly, “I’m fairly good with guns, and my ax, but the other day back in Atlanta I could barely keep out a walker who fell on top of me, and neither the second one when he fell in top of the other…”
“Say less”, she said with a big smile, “I need to practice some new skills as well”
“You’ll help me? I want to be able to fight too, people, you know? fists”
“It’ll be fun”, she said with a soft smile.
You bit the dust like twenty times in the morning, until Carol managed to scrap you off the floor and into the house for a quick lunch, and then you spend the whole afternoon helping Rosita fix cars. Or at least those who didn’t have computers, those where your favorites to try and  fix.
“So this, can be easily fix with a simple wielding, don’t let the shape fool you”, she said as you held up the broken hood of the car for her
“I always though radiators where a pain in the ass”, you said
“They are, they are easy to break, but easy to fix”, she said with a soft smile
“Great, you know what I was thinking? to install a good thick bumper in front of that truck… so we can run over walkers more easily”
“You know? i was thinking the same thing, but I’m worried about the weight, we would need to make sure to weld it good to the…”, the sounds of what must have been a window breaking interrupted you, followed by the sounds of screams and yelling. You both started running towards the commotion just in time to see Rick punching Jesse’s husband into the road.
“STOP IT PLEASE!”, screamed Jesse, trying to separate them as her husband was the one choking Rick into the grounds, but he pushed her away, making her fall. You ran towards her and helped her up and away from the fighting men.
“Dad! stop!”, Rick had the upper hand now and now it was Carl being pushed. Who was grabbed by Rosita.
“RICK!”, you called angrily, but he didn’t hear you, but he did hear Deanna as she came angrily.
“STOP IT RIGHT NOW!”, you hugged onto Jesse softly, as she grabbed onto you. She was crying, and in distress, you didn’t understand what’s going on, but you could take a pretty good guess.
“Hey, hey, everything will be fine”, you said softly, she barely nodded, “we are here for you, you’re gonna be fine”, you echoed
“You touch them again and I will kill you”, Rick threatened Pete, that’s his name. Jesse whimpered behind you
“Damn it, Rick! I said stop!”, demanded Deanna, only then Rick stopped pounding into that sorry bastard
“Or what? You gonna kick me out?”, he asked, there they were, those crazy eyes again. It was odd, Rick was wearing the constable uniform, his beard was trimmed and his hair combed back, but, his eyes, it was the same as that night, with the claimers. You didn’t even notice he had pulled out a gun until everybody gasped and stood back, at least, the Alexandrians did. You were so used to it by now it scared you.
“Put that gun down, Rick”, said Deanna, her hands in the air trying to calm him down.
A million thoughts ran through your mind, where did he get the gun? why?
“You still don't get it. None of you do!”, he said, waving the gun aimlessly, “We know what needs to be done and we do it. We're the ones who live. You, you just sit and plan and hesitate. You pretend like you know when you don't. You wish things weren't what they are. Well, you want to live? You want this place to stay standing? Your way of doing things is done. Things don't get better because you… you want them to. Starting right now, we have to live in the real world. We have to control who lives here”, his speech told you this was coming for a while, it made you tremble in your spot, you looked over at Rosita as she was as impressed as you, telling you she didn't know anything either.
“That's never been more clear to me than it is right now”, sentenced Deanna, uf, you better rush that search for a home, soon.
“Me? Me? You…”, he chuckled in a way that it was so dark it made you tremble, “You mean me? Your way is gonna destroy this place”, he said, his face was bloodied, so were his knuckles, “It's gonna get people killed! It's already gotten people killed! And I'm not gonna stand by…”, you didn’t even see her coming, Michonne had clocked him so hard in the back of the head that Rick collapsed into the ground.
An awkward silence befell all of those who were watching, Abraham came out of nowhere as you could only look at Rick, as your dreams collapsed around you.
“Please, place him in the basement of the apartments”, said Deanna gently, “until he can cool down, take the gun…”, she started giving directions while you could only follow Abraham and Michonne who had grabbed Rick and were taking him to the place directed by Deanna, also, Rosita and Carl followed you.
As you walked, you catched a glimpse of all those scared faces staring at you, at your group, like you were the worst criminals they had seen.
It was done, here it was, the crash, the collapse.
They were never gonna let you all stay, or worse, they were going to make you spell Rick
And if he was expelled, you were going to go with him.
Abraham left him in a small room, and Rosita brought things to patch him up, as she did while he was still unconscious.
Glenn came running
“Maggie will calm Deanna down”, he said softly, you looked at him with a frown.
“Does anybody know what is going on?”, you asked angrily, looking around the room, but nobody said anything
“This took me by surprise as well”, said Michonne
“What happened with that guy?”, Carol appeared in that second, looking angrily at everybody. “If all of us are here, it's going to look like we are cahooting”, you said
“Nobody saw me coming”, she said, “Pete had been abusing Jesse, and the children, I told Rick yesterday”, there was an awful silence.
“And where did he get the gun?”, you asked her, she shook her head
“I don’t know”
“...Nobody was doing anything?”, asked Glenn, “About Jesse and Pete?”
“No, he is a doctor”, Carol said, with a dark tone in her voice. You sighed, rubbing your face. Eventually, you all went away, leaving only Carl and Michonne with Rick.
Rick had taken his role seriously, he had beat up a guy who was beating his wife, and probably the children, the bastard deserved it, the tricky part was now…
The fucking gun.
You passed by the house where the armory was, and now, two Alexandrians stood by the door, one of them was Tobin, one of their toughest guys.
Well… shit.
You needed to think, so, you went to keep an eye on Tara, the calming environment of the infirmary was just what you needed right now. The night already falling over Alexandria.
. . .
He was so thankful he didn’t bring you along this time.
First, Aaron and him found a woman all torn out, tied to a tree, and an unknown man dismembered on the ground next to it. It was a horrific sight and even though you had probably seen worse, this was best.
They had to spend the night out there, in the car. They preferred it so, because they had advanced a lot, and at night, they had seen the man with the red poncho, and had better chances of finding him if he lit a fire again.
But the next day, they keep following the trail, and they had found something that look promising
But now? He was going to die, most likely.
He took a long drag of the cigarette he found, as he watched those ugly, decomposing faces, scratching the glass, trying to get to them.
It had been an obvious setup, (now that he thought about it), and now he was trapped in a car with Aaron, surrounded by walkers, and to get matters worse, an unknown group of deranged maniacs were coming his way, most likely, those who had been carving people, and their foreheads with a W
He was going to be the one to try to fight it off, as he looked at Aaron from the corner of his eye, Aaron was a good person, he had taken them to Alexandria, he had a husband, a home, he was a decent man, he deserved to be the one to live, Daryl was here to protect him.
But as he took another drag, he thought about his family.
Rick, Carol, Carl, baby Judith…
He thought of you.
Of your face, of your smile, of your arms around him yesterday when he took you for a ride, about the excitement he felt when he heard your voice whispering in his ear, about yours cent wrapped around him, he thought about how badly he wanted to be around you, with you… he thought about how much he wanted to kiss you, to hold you, and now… with how things were looking…
He was never going to get to.
He was proven to be right, in not taking you here, if you would have been here, things maybe could be worse, you could have been attacked, bitten or worse.
It was better this way.
Now he was never gonna know what it would be like, to be with you, to hold you in his arms, to kiss you. He liked you, and he just had come to realize it.
He looked down
“I’ll go, I’ll distract them while you make a run f’it”, he mumbled, “just let me finish my smoke first”
Maybe he could make it. He promised you he was going to come back to you, he promised, perhaps with one arm less, but he was gonna make it, he had to. He had to tell you.
Would you still want him with only one arm? hell, did you want him at all?
He had to find out.
He felt silly, thinking those things in a time like this, what did you do to him?
“No”, said Aaron, looking at him decisively, “this was nobody’s fault, we’ll do it together”, he nodded, Aaron wanted to get home as bad as he did, and they were gonna do it together.
And then, one of the walker’s heads was crushed by what looked like a wooden stick.
. . .
The very next morning, you woke up a bit startled, with everything that happened with Rick, you had forgotten about the archer. You ran downstairs, only to find Maggie making breakfast
“Hey, good morning”, she smiled at you softly
“Good morning”, you whispered, “Is Daryl back?”, she looked at you with a glint in her eye
“He didn’t”, she said, “but he and Aaron reported they were going to stay out there one night, so don’t you worry”, she said softly.
“Alright”, you said, but the fact that they gave notice, didn’t soothe your nerves.
“He is going to be fine”, she said softly, “but we need to focus on keeping the place they are going to return to”, she said, and you nodded
“I’ll go see Rick”, you whispered
“I will go and talk to Deanna”, she said, and exited the house.
You walked quickly, you needed to figure this out and the only one who could answer all your questions was Rick.
entered the room where Rick was, with Glenn, Carol, and Abraham, you needed answers, you needed to know what was going on. SOme of them acknowledge you, not all of them, but Abraham closed the door behind you
“Where’d you get the gun?”, asked Michonne
“You took it, right? From the armory? That was stupid. Why did you do it?”, grilled Carol, Rick’s face said it all, so you looked at the gray haired woman with suspicion, she was in on it, you realized as you looked back at Rick wide-eyed.
“Just in case”, said Rick, not taking his eyes off of Carol, but then he looked at you, and he seemed surprised to see your angry face.
“Deanna's planning to have a meeting tonight. For anyone who wants to…”, started Glenn
“To kick Rick out?”, asked Abraham, you didn’t say a thing you just looked around.
“To try”, said Carol
“We don't know that”, you said, finally
“Maggie's with Deanna right now. She's gonna find out what it is”, assured Glenn
“At the meeting, you say you were worried about someone being abused and no one was doing anything about it. You say you took a gun just to be sure that Jessie was safe from a man who wound up attacking you. You say you'll do whatever you want them to. Just tell them a story that they want to hear. It's what I've been doing since I got here”, said Carol, and you chuckled, you knew she was lying front the second she stepped through those gates.
“Why?”, asked Glenn
“Because these people are children and children like stories”, she said
“What happens after all the nice words and they still try to kick him out? They're guarding the armory now”, muttered Glenn, as you thought he was the one who was taking the same side as you, the concerned side
“We still have knives. That's all we'll need against them”, said Carol
“Well, tonight at the meeting, if it looks like it's going bad, I whistle. Carol grabs Deanna, I take Spencer, you grab Reg, Glenn and Abraham cover us, watch the crowd”, muttered Rick, and then his eyes landed on you.
“This is “trying” for you Rick?”, you asked him angrily
“We can talk to them”, said Michonne, “there is no need…”
“Yeah, we will. If we can't get through, we take the three of them and say we'll slit their throats”, said Rick as it would have been easy, “we did try, (y/n)” he said gently, “we tried, but this people don’t understand how things are now”
“Like at Terminus?”, asked Glenn, “where’re gonna slit their throats like they’re cattle?”
“No, we just tell 'em. They give us the armory and it's over”, said RIck, like he had everything figured out
“Did you want this?”, you asked him, “just making us try our best just in case so you didn’t feel bad about this?”, Abraham placed his hand on your shoulder and then you noticed how riled up you had become, taking a step forward, your voice rising. Anger taking a hold on you.
“No”, said Rick, looking straight at you, “I hit my limit. I-- I screwed up. And here we are”, he said, “I want you to stay here, that mission will have to wait, now, if you'll excuse me, I'm just gonna sleep some more”, he said, dismissing the lot of you.
How could you become so short sighted?
As you were trying your ebay and play house, your family was collapsing around you, Rick had crazy eyes, Carol was scheming right along with him, you had lost Noah, and Tara was in the hospital… Sasha was turning into a sniper, she spent all the time in the watchtower, and people had become actually scared of the lot of you, because of your aggressiveness. This was bananas, as Maggie, Abraham and Tyresse had actually reached a position of power in the matters of days.
But that part relieved you, actually, you wanted your people in power, because they knew what they were doing, not because they were gonna threaten to cut people’s throats out.
This was a whole mess
Were they going to expel Rick? were you going to go with him?.
You found a map of the state of Virginia, you opened it in the dining room table, and you began planning.
You could take a good guess where you were, and then there was Washington… you wanted to go to Washington, if they do expel you from here, that was your safer bet, to find a building and spend a couple of days there until you found something more permanent.
The map was pretty detailed, and you noticed groups of buildings near you.
“Is that a factory?”, you whispered, looking at the squared looking buildings in the map, that had been taken by a satellite a couple of years back. you certainly didn’t want to go there. DC was still the safest bet, especially if they evacuated most of the people.
But Rick won’t go
Rick wanted to stay here no matter what, he wanted to take the place.
And even if you weren’t comfortable with that, you were not going to fight it, to fight him, or Michonne or Glenn, or Abraham
Maggie and Glenn were building Rick’s defense, so you had to stay put, and try to stay calm.
It will not come to this, it will not come to that, to slitting people’s throats.
But if it did… Did that make you the bad guys? certainly not better than those psychos from Terminus.
You thought again about Daryl, about what he might think about all of this, was he in on it? It was weird that Rick was planning something and not including him. Was he in on it? You really hoped he wasn’t.
You watched the sunset through the windows, you didn’t even know where the whole day went, you had spent hours and hours over that freaking map, walking around the house, thinking about scenarios and possibilities, and freaking out.
Was Daryl going to spend the entire night out again? Was that alright? On top of everything else, you felt so nervous, he was gone… What was going to happen when he came back? Was he going to go onto the plan of threatening them? You had seen what he could do, he was quick with his crossbow and he was fiercely loyal to Rick.
Whatever it was, you needed to stand by your family, even though you didn’t agree to the plan, you had to see it through and see to it that nobody was going to get hurt.
You needed to go to the thing, what were they calling it? you didn’t remember. But you didn’t move a muscle, not a single one, you were afraid of what is going to become. They were not going to kick him out, the group was not going to allow it, instead they were going to take the place.
The decision had been made.
You were not consulted on it, and yet, you were expected to support it.
But you needed to go, and prevent the hostile takeover, you could, you only needed to be truthful. You were on your way out, when you heard the rumble of a motorcycle outside. You smiled at the thought of the archer. So you got out of the house in a hurry.
“Hey you’re home!”, you said happily when you saw him cross the porch to the house. You were so relieved, not only because you were worried for him, but because of everything that happened with Rick… But he didn’t even mind anything else. He came straight for you, he seemed driven, pushed by invisible motivations.
He encased your face with one of his hands, everything was so fast you barely had time to react, and he leaned in, and trapped your lips with his in a chaste kiss
You smiled into the kiss, grabbing his shirt.
This was happening, this was really happening and you wanted to make it last as much as you could, his hand traveled to the back of your head, to hold you steady.
All your thoughts and worries went away as easily as that. Everything was going to be alright, and he felt heavenly. He felt the same, kissing your lips was the best thing he had felt in a long while. He separated from you, even though he didn’t want to, you didn’t want to. But still, he needed to see your reaction.
“M’sorry”, he whispered against your lips, “I wanted to do that:”
“Took you long enough Dixon”, you said against his, and this time, you grabbed onto his shirt and you pulled him towards you, you kissed him again. This time, it was more intense, you actually heard him whimper against your lips, as you both took a deep breath into each other. Grabbing each other more tightly. You didn’t know how you were ever gonna stop it.
But of course a gunshot rang through the air, making you split up like the other was on fire.

You were up with the sun. An anxious bit in your stomach and Tora’s nails digging into your skin wasn’t the start of your intended day, but there it was. The cellblock ceiling wasn’t nearly as calming as the treehouse's wooden panels and the prison's smell wasn’t as endearing as the pine trees surrounding your old home. But the steady breathing of Beth in the top bunk brought a sense of calmness to you that you hadn’t had since the morning before Liam died.
You weren’t alone.
Tora was sitting on your chest. The twenty-five-pound cat wasn’t aware of how heavy she was, and her paws dug deeply into your skin. She cooed softly when you scratched behind her ears. She wanted to be let outside. At the treehouse, she could go out to do her business. You’d need to find her a little box or figure something out.
Her needs pulled you out of bed, and you quietly left the cell. She followed your trail, and you opened the door outside as quietly as possible. She took off exploring the new landscape, and you followed her. It was a warm morning, the promise of summertime.
The wind blew softly, and you looked around the courtyard. It seemed like it could be safe. Though you preferred to be twenty feet above the ground. In the treehouse, you were safe.
Your stomach grumbled, and you walked to one of the metal tables in the courtyard. The bell on Tora’s collar rang, and though you couldn’t see her, you knew she was around. The
The door screech sounded, and you jumped, looking back to see Rick walking out of the prison. He paused for a moment when he saw you before walking over.
“Good morning,” He greeted you by name.
You smiled up at him. “Mornin’.”
“What’s got you up so early?” He asked you.
“The cat,” You said softly, looking at Tora, who was investigating the pile of dead ones. “She had to go out. Listen, Rick, we’re strangers, but I wanted to thank you. Being with my cousins and my uncle… it’s a gift. I hope you know that I truly appreciate it.”
He nodded slowly and rested his hand on his belt, “I woke up in this world alone, and I found my family. This group took me in without question. I wanna do that for you too, but I gotta be sure.”
“I can understand that. I’ll do whatever you need me to,”
“Good, ‘cause we got a lot of work to do here. We need all the help we can get.”
“What’s on the agenda for the day?” You asked.
Rick went over the plan for the day, and as he was, several other group members woke up and joined the conversation. Carol, T-Dog, and Daryl stood around in a circle. While they worked inside, you were to help Lori and Beth clean up the inside of the cell. You were thankful that you wouldn’t be working outside.
Daryl seemed to want to talk to you, but he was called away, and whatever it was, it was left unsaid. You didn’t ponder what it was while you walked inside and found Lori. “I’m ready to help,” You said.
***
“Easy, Uncle Hershel,” You laughed as he struggled up the steps. The crutches supported his weight well, and you stood back to let Lori help him. Beth grabbed your hand and gave it a squeeze before you both followed out through the front door.
The breeze hit you all at once and, for once, cooled down your sweaty body. It had taken all morning to get the cell block up to Lori’s standards, and you were exhausted from all the cleaning. The place smelt better already, and you had plans to leave the door open to air it out.
“You cleaned up all those bodies out,” Hershel said, looking around, “It’s starting to look like a place we can really live in,”
You smiled at the three of them and laughed when you heard Glenn calling from beyond the fence. In a few seconds, everyone had noticed your uncle walking, and you could feel it in the air. The admiration, the hope, and love. Beth squeezed your hand and gave you one of your biggest smiles, and you knew that this was it. This was the right decision, and you would do anything to stay.
A high-pitched yowl interrupted the silence and Tora took off, climbing up the gated entrance to the prison. Your eyebrows furrowed together at her sudden reaction, it was too familiar. It was exactly like…
“Walkers!” Carl screamed.
Chaos seemed to erupt at that moment, and you reached for your gun, only it wasn’t there. Instead, you grabbed your machete and gripped it tightly. “Beth, get Uncle Hershel inside, now!” You yelled.
You launched into action, your body acting on muscle memory to take down the threat. Blood splattered against your face as bodies dropped. Gunshots echoed around you as you moved back. There were too many of them.
“Lori, Carl, get inside!” You yelled.
You heard Maggie call your name, but you ignored it, fighting off the dead ones as they came to you. You heard someone screaming and looked over to see T-Dog coated in blood, headed into one of the blocks. About seven dead ones were left, all in different directions as the group dispersed.
“(Y/N)!” Beth yelled, and when you glanced over, you saw them locked in one of the cell block entrance gates, with dead ones pushing at the gate. You twisted the machete in your hand and ran over, pulling one off and ending it before going for the next.
“What the hell happened!” More gunshots echoed, and when you turned around, both Glenn and Daryl were fighting off the dead ones. You barely heard the conversation between Rick and your cousin as you helped get the rest of the dead ones.
“The chains didn’t break on their own. Someone took an axe or cutters to ‘em,” Glenn said.
Rick turned to look at you for a second before his eyes moved past you and narrowed at the two prisoners by the gate. You didn’t have the time to register their conversation before a blaring siren sounded.
Confusion swept the group, and you looked around momentarily before Rick started shooting at the sirens. It only took a few seconds before Rick figured out where to go, and soon they were gone.
You took a few deep breaths and looked around the courtyard and the destruction that ensured in only a few short minutes. The air felt heavy now, with loss and anger. With fear. Your hands were shaking, and you knelt slowly on the ground. Your fingers were sticky with blood, and you tried to wipe them away.
It seemed like an eternity before the sirens went off, and since then, you had walked the fence line to ensure no other dead ones got through. You were itching to get a gun but didn’t dare leave the courtyard.
Another eternity passed before you heard a commotion at the back door, and Rick, Glenn, and Daryl ran out of the prison. You jogged over to where they checked in with your uncle and cousin.
“Thank you, (Y/N),” Rick said to you, though his voice was still angry. You nodded but didn’t say anything and glanced at Daryl. He seemed worried.
That’s when you heard it. The unmistakable sound of a baby crying. Your stomach dropped as you looked at Carl and Maggie with a newborn baby. You knew. As soon as you saw their faces, you knew exactly what had happened.
You weren’t sure when you stopped breathing, but when Maggie started sobbing and Rick fell to the ground, your breaths were shaky, and you felt like throwing up. You felt an arm wrap around yours, and you looked down at Beth, whose eyes were shiny with tears.
Everything happened so quickly after that; Rick disappeared into the cell block, and the baby started crying. A determined Maggie and Daryl left to get food for the baby, and you were left standing with the rest of the survivors.

Chapter 2
Pairing: Daryl Dixon x female reader x Rick Grimes (slow burn)

Twenty-nine days.
Twenty-nine days since the world ended, and the dead came.
Twenty-seven days since you have lost your adoptive parents, Elliot and Olivia, in Atlanta.
Twenty-seven days since you've met two brothers, Merle and Daryl Dixon.
Twenty-five days since the three of you met other survivors and made together a camp outside the city.
Twenty-nine days since the world went to shit.
"Hey, find anything?"
You looked over to your friend, Glenn as he tugged on his backpack over his shoulder while walking toward you.
"Just a couple of comic books for Carl, and a couple of water bottles," you answered as you put the books in your backpack.
Since you made a camp outside the city, you volunteered to do supply rans for the group to grab some stuff from inside the city, and your new friend that you made at the first day at camp was Glenn, he volunteered to go with you.
So, the both of you would go to the city a lot, but this time you brought a few people along which you thought wasn't the best idea.
So, you all agreed that you and Glenn would look inside a few stores while the others would wait on top of the office building. While you were away from the camp, the kids in the camp, especially Carl, Lori's son, were watching over your puppy Max, an Australian Shepherd dog which you received from your father on your 21's birthday a month before the outbreak.
"What about you?" you asked, walking to the exit with Glenn. "Found something?"
"Just a couple of cans, oh, and got you this." You looked over and saw him digging into his backpack. He pulled out a sketch book, and you smiled as he held it out to show you. "Got you three more, and a couple of pencils and markers."
"You're the best," you complimented.
Glenn grinned as he put the sketch book back into his backpack, "I try," he said as he zipped his backpack.
Bang!
You both paused immediately when you heard gun shots. You glanced at Glenn and quickly stepped out. Glenn closed the door after you and you both ran to the staircase that leaded to an alley.
You peered over and saw a young man dropping from his horse and shooting around at walkers. "What's he doing?" you hissed.
Glenn didn't answer and you didn't expect an answer, both of you watched the man crawling under the tank. "What is he doing?" Glenn asked now.
"Dumbass," you muttered as you peered down and around nervously as walkers crawled around the now dead horse and the tank.
"Look, look," Glenn said as he tapped on your shoulder. You quickly looked back at the tank and saw the guy opening the hatch and shoot a walker near him before closing the hatch again. "What do we do?"
"We got to help him," you said. You unzipped your backpack and pulled out your CB Walkie. "We can't just leave him like that."
"Can you connect it to the radio in the tank?" Glenn asked as you zipped the backpack and stood up, playing with the walkie.
"Let's find out," you muttered yet you were confident you could. A few seconds of silent and you got statics. "Guess my nerdy skills still handy, huh?"
"You didn't hear me complaining of your awesome skills yet, right?"  he said, and you felt your cheeks heating up by the compliment.
You cleared your throat before speaking into the Walkie, "Hey, you. Dumbass. Hey, you in the tank. Are you cozy in there?" There was no answer, so you tried again, "Hey. Are you alive in there?"
"Hello? Hello?"
You glanced at Glenn and spoke in relief, "Good, you had me wondering for a second, thought you were dead."
"No, I'm still alive. Where are you? Outside? Can you see me right now?"
"Yeah, I can see you," you answered as you moved around Glenn and stepped to the side, "You're surrounded by Walkers. That's the bad news."
"There's good news?"
You glanced at Glenn and then away, "...No."
"Listen, whoever you are, I don't mind telling you I'm a little concerned in here."
You frowned as you looked at the walkers, "You should see it from over here. You'd be having a major freak-out."
"Got any advice for me?"
You looked at the area as you answered, "Yeah, I'd say make a run for it."
The man in the radio paused before speaking again, "That's it? 'Make a run for it'?"
You rolled your eyes and spoke, "My way's not as dumb as it sounds, you've got eyes on the outside here. There's one Geek still up on the tank but the others have climbed down and joined the feeding frenzy where the horse went down. With me so far?"
"So far."
"Okay, the street on the other side of the tank is less crowded. If you move now while they're distracted, you stand a chance. You got ammo?"
"In that duffel bag I dropped out there, and guns. Can I get to it?"
You shook your head lightly, "Forget the bag, it's not an option. What do you have on you?"
"Hang on," he said and there was a moment of silent. "I've got a Beretta with one clip, 15 rounds."
"Make 'em count. Jump off the right side of the tank, keep going in that direction. There's an alley up the street, 50 yards. I'll meet you there."
"Hey, what's your name?"
"No time for the introduction," you said, "Move, you're running out of time."
The radio cut off and you looked at Glenn, "Okay, go back to the others, I'll be right there."
"What? Wait, I'm gonna go with you."
"Glenn, no time. Go! I'll be fine."
You turned and jumped off the stairs. You ran around the corner as you heard more gun shoots. You reached to the alley and ran to the end.
The guy you saw ran around the corner, shooting walkers around before pointing at you. You quickly held up your hands, "Don't, not dead!"
He lowered his gun, and you nodded back to where you came from, "Come on! Come on!" You both ran into the alley as the guy continued to shoot walkers. "Stop shooting, you are getting their attention!" You called.
You climbed up the ladder and he followed. You reached to the top and looked at the guy when he got up. You looked down under the ladder and saw the Walkers gathered around it, trying to reach for the both of you.
You let out a breath and looked at the guy, "Nice moves there, sheriff. You the new one who come riding in to clean up the town?"
"It wasn't my intention," he said.
"Yeah, whatever," you said and pointed at him, "You're still a dumbass."
The guy held his hand out, "Rick. Thanks."
You glanced at his hand and shook it, "Audrey. You're welcome. But don't do that shit again. Just saying."
Rick let out a soft chuckle and nodded, "I'll remember that."
You peered down on the ladder before up at the roof. "Well..." You looked at Rick, "The bright side, it'll be the fall that kills us." You shrugged and climbed up the ladder and he followed you.
"Did you barricaded the alley?" he asked, his tone in his voice was impression as the two of you ran to the building.
"Can't take the credit, somebody did," you said, "I guess when the city got overrun. Whoever did it was thinking not many Geeks would get through."
You opened the hatch as he asked, "Back at the tank, why'd you stick your neck out for me?"
"Call it foolish, naïve hope that if I'm ever that far up shit creek, somebody might do the same for me," you said and threw your backpack before you looked at him and shrugged, "Guess I'm an even bigger dumbass than you." You climbed down the ladder, and he followed and closed the hatch.
You grabbed your backpack and pulled it on your shoulders before you both ran to the back door of the clothing store as you spoke into the CB walkie, "Guys, I'm back with a guess and there are two walkers in front." You paused and held your arm out to Rick to stop as you looked at the two Walkers near the door. They turned and slowly walked toward you.
But then, the door opened, and Morales and T-Dog, came out with protective gear and baseball bats, beating the two Walkers in the heads. "Let's go!" you told Rick and ran to the door with him following behind.
"Morales, let's go!"
T-Dog and Morales ran into the building and closed the door. You turned to see everyone except for Merle there. You looked at Glenn in relief before at Andrea when the older woman pushed Rick to the wall and aimed her gun on him, "You son of a bitch. We ought to kill you."
"Just chill out, Andrea," Morales told her, "Back off."
"Come on, ease up," T-Dog told her.
"Ease up?" Andrea repeated, "You're kidding me, right? We're dead because of this stupid asshole."
"Andrea, hey, stop!" you said and moved between them. The gun was aimed to your chest instead of Rick's. "Enough. Or pull the trigger."
Andrea let out a shaky breath as she lowered her gun immediately after you said it. She glared over your shoulder at Rick and shook her head, "We're dead. All of us. Because of you."
"I don't understand," Rick said.
Morales walked up to Rick and leaded him away with you following, "Look, we came into the city to scavenge supplies."
"You're okay?" Glenn asked you quietly as you followed behind.
You nodded and gave the older boy a small smile, "Yeah. I'm okay."
"You know what the key to scavenging is? Surviving. You know the key to surviving? Sneaking in and out, tiptoeing. Not shooting up the streets like it's the O.K. Corral."
You all stopped at the window doors, and you saw the walkers were trying to get into the store, growling. "Every Geek for miles around heard you popping off rounds," T-Dog told Rick.
"You just rang the dinner bell," Andrea told him.
"Get the picture now?" Morales asked.
A few of the walkers were attempting to smash through the double set of doors to get to you all, and you stepped back.
"Oh God."
"What the hell were you doing out there anyway?" Morales asked.
"Trying to flag the helicopter," Rick answered.
"Helicopter?" T-Dog repeated. "Man, that's crap. There ain't no damn helicopter."
"I saw it," Rick said.
Morales turned to you, "Hey, Audrey, try that CB. Can you contact the others?"
"Others?" Rick asked as you held up your CB walkie. "The refugee Center?"
"Yeah, the refugee center," Glenn told him sarcastically. "They've got biscuits waiting at the oven for us."
You shook your head, "Got no signal. I'll try again on the roof."
There was a gunshot from above you on the roof and you looked up in annoyance while everyone else was freaking out. "Oh no," Andrea said, "Is that Dixon?"
"What is that maniac doing?" Morales asked.
"I'm going to kill Merle," you said in annoyance as you ran to the door, and the rest followed you. You got quickly to the roof to Merle and saw him shooting at walkers. "Merle! Cut it out!"
Merle stopped and turned to you as Morales shouted at him, "Hey, Dixon, are you fucking crazy?!"
Merle chuckled, "Huh? Hey! You ought to be more polite to a man with a gun!" He jumped off the edge of the roof, walking toward you. "Huh? Ah! Only common sense."
"Man, you wasting bullets we ain't even got, man," T-Dog told him, standing in front of him. "And you're bringing even more of them down on our ass! Man, just chill."
"Hey, bad enough I've got this taco-bender on my ass all day," Merle said, pointing at Morales. "Now I'm gonna take orders from you? I don't think so, bro. That'll be the day."
"'That'll be the day?'" T-Dog repeated. "You got something you want to tell me?"
"Hey, T-Dog man, just leave it," Morales told him.
"No," T-Dog told him.
Rick stood beside you and looked at them in confusion. He turned to you, and you shook your head to not get involved in it.
"All right? It ain't worth it. Merle, just relax, okay? We've got enough trouble."
"You want to know the day?" Merle asked.
"Yeah," T-Dog told him.
"I'll tell you the day, Mr. 'Yo', it's the day I take orders from a nigger," Merle told him.
"Mother--" T-Dog started, throwing a punch at Merle, but Merle grabbed T-Dog's arm, and hit him with the rifle.
T-Dog fell to the floor as you called out, "Merle! Stop!" You shouted with Andrea but Merle punched Rick and Morales when they tried to get him off of T-Dog.
Merle kicked T-Dog in the sides a few times, punching him in the face, pulling out a gun, pointing it in his face. "No, no, no, please," Andrea told him. "Please."
Merle spit on T-Dog's shirt, rubbing it, "Yeah! All right!" He stood up, moving away. You, Glenn, Morales and Andrea moved to T-Dog's side, and you helped him to sit up. "We're gonna have ourselves a little powwow, huh? Talk about who's in charge." Merle pointed the gun at all of you. "I vote me." He held up a hand. "Anybody else? Huh? Democracy time, y'all. Show of hands, huh? All in favor? Huh? Come on." You all slowly held up your hands. "Let's see 'em. Oh, come on. All in favor? Yeah. That's good. Now that means I'm the boss, right? Yeah. Anybody else? Hmm? Anybody?"
You saw Rick approaching him from behind, "Yeah."
Merle turned around, and Rick hit Merle over the head with the rifle, making him fell to the ground. Rick handcuffed Merle to a pipe as he yelled at him, "Who the hell are you, man?!"
"Officer friendly," Rick told him, grabbing Merle's gun, "Look here, Merle. Things are different now. There are no niggers anymore. No dumb-as-shit, inbred white-trash fools either. Only dark meat and white meat. There's us and the dead. We survive this by pulling together, not apart."
"Screw you, man," Merle told him.
"I can see you make a habit of missing the point," Rick told him.
"Yeah?" Merle asked, "Well, screw you twice."
Rick pointed the gun at Merle, using his words from earlier against him, "Ought to be polite to a man with a gun. Only common sense."
"You wouldn't," Merle told him, "You're a cop."
"All I am anymore is a man looking for his family," Rick told him, "Anybody that gets in the way of that is gonna lose. I'll give you a moment to think about that." Rick went through Merle's pockets, pulling out something, "Got some on your nose there."
Rick stood, walking away.
"What are you gonna do?" Merle asked. "Arrest me?" He chuckled. Rick walked to the edge, throwing what he found in Merle's pocket. "Hey! Dude, what are you doing? Man, that was my stuff! Hey!" Rick walked to the other side and Morales slowly followed him. "If I get loose, you'd better pray--Yeah, you hear me, you pig?! You hear me?!"

Hi!! I want to start of by saying that I love your writing!
So while watching twd I noticed that Daryl has more tattoos in the later seasons and can only guess that they’re stick-and-poke and that he did them himself. Do you think you could write a fic where the reader(f) is in a relationship with Daryl and asks him to give her a tattoo (which she has none of btw)? I was thinking like a little arrow or something because she “wants to have something of him even when they’re apart”? And make it super fluffy and stuff?
Marked
18+ MDNI || Warnings: Needles, profanity, mostly just fluffy nice cool Daryl
Note: I am not encouraging you to give anyone or receive an at home tattoo via sewing needle or tattoo gun, but I have received my fair share of both and the descriptions in this story are just based off my vague memory of how it was done for me! It is definitely not a tattoo guide.

"Did you always have that tattoo?" You wondered, tracing over the dark marking on his arm. The two of you were on one of your regular afternoon strolls through the woods when you decided to lay against a log and chat. The sunbeams filtered through the canopy above and littered little golden rays over his arms, highlighting the light hairs and texture of his skin. These moments were your favorite. Peaceful bliss in the natural world.
        Daryl shook his head.
"Nah. Did it awhile back." He said.
        "How?"
"Never had a stick-n-poke?" He asked.
"Never had a tattoo, period. Let alone a prickle-poke." You shrugged.
"It's stick-n-poke." He snickered silently. You glared.
"Whatever. Can you give me one?" You asked.
        "A tattoo?"
"Yeah. The stick-n-prickle kind." You joked.
"Alright." He nodded. "Gotta get some supplies together for it."
----
You watched as he carefully burned the little sewing needle and wrapped it in thread.
        "Why thread?" You asked.
"Kinda helps hold the ink but mostly jus' for grip." He explained.
He set up a tiny container on the side table of your bed with black liquid.
        "Is that ink?" You asked.
        "Mm-hmm." He nodded.
        "You made it?"
        "Uh-huh."
        "How?"
"Soot. Alcohol. Water." He shrugged. "Ain't hard."
"Cool." You whispered, fascinated by his expertise.
        "Wha'd'ya want?"
"I was thinking about an arrow." You said. "A small one. Real simple." He raised an eyebrow. "For you, dummy."
"I got that but.. Why?" He tilted his head a little.
"'Cause. I wanna have something for you... Always. Even when we're apart." You said with a soft smile. He hid his face bashfully, not wanting to expose the little blush that was creeping over his features. Instead, he pretended to adjust the thread around the needle.
"Where ya want it?" He asked when his flushed cheeks returned to their normal sunkissed glow.
"Right here." You pointed to your ring finger, right where a ring would go.
        "Ya sure?"
"Mm-hmm." You nodded surely. He wiped some alcohol over that spot to disinfect it.
"Alright." He said. He delicately grabbed your finger and held it in place. "Y'ready?"
"I've had worse than a little pin prick." You giggled. "I'm ready."
Without another word, he got to work carefully poking the needle through your skin, freehanding a perfect line. You watched in awe, studying his look of concentration, the way he tilted his head to see though his hair, holding your finger up close to his face to make sure every detail was perfect. It only took about twenty minutes. You looked it over when he finished, holding your hand up the way someone does when they're admiring their engagement ring.
"Wow." You grinned. "How did you make such a perfect line?"
        "Ain't perfect." He shrugged.
"It is! I love it." You insisted. A half smile curled at the corner of his lips.
"'M glad, 'cause it don't wash off." He joked. You rolled your eyes.
"This is no laughing matter, Daryl. You just proposed to me, ya know." You said in mock seriousness.
"What?" His eyes widened. Even under the tan skin, his face still drained of color.
"Yeah," you pressed on. "This is my ring finger. Like, the ring finger. And you permanently marked it with something symbolic to yourself." You gloated.
He blinked. He couldn't tell if you were joking or not.
"Anyways, I'm gonna go talk to Carol about planning the wedding. I bet Rosita and Tara would be beautiful bridesmaids." You rambled. "Oh, and instead of cake, everyone gets a glass of moonshine!"
        "I don' think.."
"I'm kidding, genius." You rolled your eyes. He relaxed a little. "Thanks though. I love it."
He cleared his throat and stood up, cleaning his workspace so not to clutter your bedroom.
"Oh, by the way.. This is the ring finger." You smirked. He stared at you for a moment before shaking his head.
"Don't go showin' the whole damn world and tellin' 'em we're married." He grumbled.
"Would that be so bad?" You pouted. He smirked and planted a kiss on your forehead.
"Nah. But I ain't proposin' with no damn stick-n-poke. Gon' find ya somethin' better than that."
Your face lit up, practically brightening the entire room.
"You're gonna propose?!" You bounced with joy.
        "Wha-- I didn't--"
"Oh, my god! I have to tell Carol!!" You squealed as you darted out of the room. He stood there expressionless, processing what he had just done.
"Shit." He mumbled. It wasn't that he wouldn't propose one of these days. He'd love to call you his forever. Otherwise, he never would have marked you with something that represented him in the first place. It was just.. That it would draw so much attention to him. He sighed. He guessed he walked right into that one.
---
"When did you do this?" You asked him, holding up his ring finger that was now decorated with a little cloud shape.
        "Yesterday." He shrugged.
"Is that a cloud?" You eyed it closer.
        "Mm-hmm."
        "For what?"
"Dunno. Ya always stare up at the clouds when we take long drives." He explained. "Now we're both marked."

You had honestly thought you would never see your older brother, Daryl, ever again. It just didn’t seem possible; with the lengths you’d traveled on foot to the people you’ve lost, the idea of him being alive was almost too good to be true.
You guys had been separated from each other ever since you were fifteen. It was your fault really, but the argument you had between Merle & Daryl was considered a big deal at the time, but now that you’re almost twenty-six, it was almost laughable. You had gone out drinking with some friends and hadn’t come home until the next night, and Daryl was almost losing his mind worrying about you.
You were a complete accident, your parents hadn’t cared about you since you were born, and the caretaking was left up to Daryl & Merle, but of course, Merle can’t take responsibility for anything, so Daryl was the one that took care of you most of the time. Of course, with the pressures of teenage hormones and the fact that there was nothing to do in your small town, you would eventually give in to the mischief of your friends. Daryl had dreaded the day you grew up truly, and that night was an eye opener for him, and he had no idea how to take it.
“What the hell were you thinkin’?!” Daryl asked angrily. He stood behind one of the dining room chairs, his hands having a death grip on the back of it. “I was thinkin’ that I wanted to go and hangout with my friends without you on my back!” You replied back in irritation. Merle chimed in from the couch he was sitting on, “Don’t act like we didn’t do that when we were her age, little brother.” He laughed to himself before taking a swig of his beer.
“Shut up man!” He growled.
“You’re not my fucking dad,” You bit. “So I don’t even know why you fucking care.”
His face morphed into something nasty. “Ya think I wanted to take care of ya?” He began to slowly approach you. “Yer jus’ some fuckin’ burden that I was stuck with..” His finger jabbed into your shoulder. A sickening feeling settled in your stomach as you bit back tears; his words hurt worse than you thought they would, and without thinking you said, “Fuck you, Daryl.” As you shoved him away from you and stormed out of the front door.
Daryl went to move when Merle piped up from the couch once more.
“Let ‘er go. She’ll be back, jus’ needs some time to cool off.”
Daryl wished that he hadn’t listened to him.
For the next ten years, you were on your own, and you had spent the first five holding on to hope that the only family you had managed to survive. Even though you hated Merle, he was blood, at least that’s what he had said - which you since learned was a shitty manipulation tactic. You didn’t mean what you had said to Daryl though, you didn’t have the right to say what you did to him, and maybe both of you were in the wrong; most nights when you were supposed to be sleeping, you’d stare up at the stars, your head swimming with questions.
Now, you’ve stopped wondering, just opting to live and save the people that were alive.
Tumblr media
You were wandering back to your camp when you stopped in your tracks, slowly drawing your bow and quiver as you watched a man surveying your makeshift camp in the woods.
“Drop your weapons.” You said lowly.
You could see his back muscles tense under his angel jacket, your eyes falling on the dog that was waiting for its owner's command. Your eyes softened, you hadn’t seen a dog in so long you’ve almost forgotten what they looked like.
“No one’s gotta get hurt.” You heard him say. “You’re right, so drop your shit,” You pulled tighter on the string. “I won’t ask you again.” He froze for a second before quickly spinning around, his crossbow brought up and ready to shoot.
Your tense body deflated at the sight of Daryl.
“D?” You asked in disbelief.
Those same tears pricked at the ducts in your eyes caused you to lower your bow, becoming completely defenseless. You threw your arms around him and began to sob, clinging onto him as you could barely say a coherent sentence. Years of grief and loss completely melted from your body, as that hole in your heart had finally begun to heal.
He couldn’t believe you were still alive; all hope had died off with you the night that you disappeared. He had no idea if you had found a safe zone or if you were bitten. He desperately searched for you until Merle forced him to move, where they inevitably found the quarry and its people.
“God,” You say as you pull away from him. “You look like shit, old man.” You attempted to joke to cover up your embarrassment of showing your vulnerability. “Ya don’ look any better, brat.” He grumbled light-heartedly.
You two had begun to walk together, a couple of giggles escaping your lips as Daryl’s dog danced around your legs once he learned you weren’t a threat.
“So, where have you been?” You asked. He just shrugs, “I’ve been around.” You nodded in understanding. “Same here. I can’t even tell you where I’ve gone.” You snorted in amusement. There was another beat of silence before you spoke again.
“Where’s Merle?”
He nibbled on the skin of his lower lip nervously.
“He uh- he didn’t make it.” His voice almost sounded sad. “Oh.” You didn’t know how to feel about hearing about the eldests’ death. A part of you was sad, but the other part of you was also in disbelief, almost like you didn’t believe him. “How did he die?”
“Doin’ somethin’ stupid but kinda… heroic?”
“I would have never expected that.”
“Me neither.” He said with his classic scoff.
Despite losing one brother, you were grateful that you had the other, and if you were going to be honest, he was your favorite. Your conversations flowed as if you hadn’t had to pick up where you left off.

Fruit & Time (Daryl x Reader)
In which (Y/n) is a pre-apocalypse pop-star dealing with the consequences of her social influence on those she meets. But what happens when she meets someone who has no idea who the hell she even is?
At first, the cold was a welcomed change from what had been torturing you for months, the humid air and destructive heat of the south. But the change of weather brought much more pain to you than relief.
For months, you had been spending your nights in the trees, fending for yourself deep in the forest. It was the easiest way to stay away from the dead, but more importantly, people. It was a hard lifestyle to adjust to, but worth it. Plus, you weren’t half bad at staying alive. Maybe a little bad at staying sane, but you kept most of it together all things considered. You had a system.
You would rise with the sun, untying yourself from the branch you’d made your bed and drop your backpack from whichever tree you had chosen the night before. You’d use your rope and rock climbing harness to lower yourself down the tree. (Both supplies you found in an abandoned nature retreat a few months back)
You’d then, if you were lucky, go find the nearest running water and freshen up as well as try to purify (as best you could) as much water as you could carry. And the rest of your day was spent scavenging through the woods for something to eat. Your favorite was acorns, or mushrooms. You only liked mushrooms if they were cooked though.
Sometimes you could dry out and fry some mushrooms and store them for later too. Like a little treat for later.
In all honesty, you didn’t find it to be the most exciting life, especially when you had to kill the already dead. But it was life now. Everything and everyone you knew from before was gone.
You sighed, looking up at a tall tree that shot straight up twenty feet.
You had found your bed for the night…
Tying one side of your rope to your harness, and the other side to one of the harness clips, you casted your arm back, aiming for one of the higher branches.
With a weak grunt, you threw the hunk of metal up..
And completely missed the branch.
In fact, the clip went up fifteen feet, then directly down over your big, vulnerable head.
You yelped and covered yourself, prematurely wincing as you awaited impact.
The clip made a thud as it landed in the dirt right next to you.
You sighed with relief, picking it up and trying again.
This time, the rope swung over the branch and you lowered it down from the other side, snapping the murderous clip into your harness.
You pulled, testing the weight of the branch. It didn’t budge and you smiled triumphantly.
Then you began the worst part of your day. Climbing the tree.
It didn’t take that long, honestly. But you wouldn’t call have called yourself a star athlete even before everything happened. At least some things really don’t change.
You used your lackluster upper body strength and the rope to reach a low hanging branch and managed to pull yourself up the rest of the way. Skillfully, you slithered your way to the desired branch and pulled your rope up.
The sun began setting and the cold was already setting in. God, this weather was an issue..
You reached around and pulled the ratty blanket? It was better described as a depressed piece of cloth. Regardless, you pulled it from your backpack, shrugging it over your shoulders.
Your feet swung in the wind, numbed by miles of walking and the beginnings of winter. You shuffled, wondering if sitting on tree branches every night was changing the shape of your butt. You frowned. You hoped not. You liked your butt..
As a treat, you even busted out your fried mushrooms and snacked on them like they were the worlds worst french fries.
Your snack was cut short when a herd of the dead began to stumble through the trees.
They were going west, and you watched their heads from above as they stumbled past you.
You were headed east. It was the only goal you had.
Its what you had agreed on…
You were high enough to avoid catching any of their attention, so you just watched and plugged your nose. It was like people-watching, but now it was a little more sad. Instead of looking at the woman with blue hair and wondering about her life, you look at her corpse stumble past and wonder how she ended up how she is.
Still, it wasn’t boring. "Morbidly fascinating" is what Daniel would call it. God, that pretentious dork would rant about the dead like he was the professor of it. After everything, losing his mom, his brother, and all of our friends, he would still talk about everything he could with the passion of the sun.
You wiped the sweat from your face, eyeing every movement surrounding your group as you moved through the empty streets of some abandoned So-Cal suburb.
"It’ll be a few more years of this at most." Daniel spoke generally to anyone listening.
"How’s that?" Bea humored him. You rolled your eyes.
"Well, these things are rotting, right? They have a shelf life then. An expiration date. Given a few years, at least in the hot places around the world, they’ll all be nothing but bones."
"Wow.." Bea awed. "How do you know this stuff?"
"Common sense?" You teased, a bit annoyed by Bea’s gawking. Daniel frowned at you. "He only sounds smart cause of that accent." You "whispered" at Bea. The brit in question scoffed.
"You don't think I’m smart?!" Daniel put his hand on his heart.
You gave him an exaggerated sympathetic smile. "Of course not, sweetie."
He grinned for a second, then scowled once he realized what you really meant.
He pulled you by your hips, stopping as the group continued forward.
His hand traveled up your arm and found your hand as he rested his head over your shoulder.
"If I’m the idiot, then you’re an imbecile." He pulled your hand in front of your face, the shiny engagement ring shimmering in your face.
You scoffed and leaned your head back on his chest. "Your defense is that I’m even dumber for wanting to marry you?" You asked.
"Yes, absolutely." He argued.
"Then that makes you the one who asked to marry an imbecile, making you, officially, a moron." You turned and poked his chest.
"Ooh, then you agreed to marry a moron!"
"I absolutely did."
He beamed like he was the sun itself and leaned down to kiss you.
You had to push him away after he kept leaning into you to the point that your back was bending.
"We have to catch up, you big moron." You teased.
"That’s not fair." He argued.
"What? We agreed you’re a moron, didn’t we?"
"See, no. You created a paradox when you said-"
"Daniel?"
"Yes?"
"Let’s go."
"Yes ma’am."
You wiped at tear from your face, deciding that the moon was a much better point of focus. Daniel was growing more distant in your memory as of late. You decided forgetting made you much sadder than constantly thinking about him. About losing him..
The wind blew and felt as if it froze the tear on your cheek.
You had maybe a month before it would be too cold to keep sleeping in trees. Then what? Any town or building you could find is an open invitation for people. You didn’t want to risk it. For you, being around anyone was like playing Russian roulette.
You wondered if there were any caves around, but scoffed once you realized in your eight months of traveling you hadn’t seen a single cave.
And then that made you wonder about bears. You wondered if there were bears around. And you wondered what it would take to tame a bear. You’d probably need to tame a baby, but that means you’d have to kill it’s mom. You frowned. That seems cruel. Plus, would the baby even trust you if you killed it’s mom in front of it? And how could you even kill a-
There was a noise you could only describe as.. sharp? that startled you, making you freeze and tuck your legs back.
Shuffling then came from the bush right in front of you, and about ten of the dead stumbled towards the noise from either side.
You had your back firmly against the trunk of the tree, trying to squint through the darkness, the full moon giving you a sliver of assistance.
Another sharp whizzing sound came, and a clearly living person emerged from ahead of you, large, shadow-concealed weapon extended as more of the dead staggered towards them.
You let out a sharp breath as the figure dropped the weapon and pulled out a knife, dropping the dead like flies.
To your left, you spotted at least five more of the things staggering through the trees, completely out of the person’s line of sight.
It was some sort of complex, instinctual force within you, throwing the open end of your rope down and clicking your flashlight on.
You illuminated the figure, a man with a crossbow, and he looked up to you with wide eyes.
"HEY!" You called, shining the light on the rope below.
He looked down at it then back up at you, and as more of the dead staggered into sight, he had no choice but to pull himself up the tree, swinging his feet over the lowest branch just before he was about to be made into a dead person’s dinner.
He began moving higher, and you kept your light trained on him, hand obviously shaking with uncertainty and fear.
The man noticed your fear and stopped climbing, situated on one of the lower branches.
The dead piled at the bottom of the tree, clawing at the bark from all sides.
"Are you okay..?" You said with a hoarse voice from months of not speaking.
He was breathing heavily, looking down at the small group.
He looked up towards you and squinted, light shining directly in his face.
"I’m fine.. thanks." He said, voice even more gravely than yours.
"Yeah.. no prob." You cleared your throat.
"Can you turn that thing off?" He asked, noticeably trying to be more polite than he was probably feeling.
You gulped, hesitant.
"That’s just gonna bring more of em here." He warned.
You knew he was right but it was still nerve wracking. You’d be plunged into darkness with a strange southern man without anywhere to go.
A reluctant click came, and you were casted in complete darkness for a moment.
You were frozen with fear as you waited for your eyes to adjust to the darkness. You didn’t really know what to expect. Your mind conjured up a huge monster lurching towards you, as if the world wasn’t scary enough already.
When your eyes finally did adjust to the darkness, he was in the exact same position, looking just as concerned as you.
You were too scared to consider it, but he was trying to see the mysterious, light shrouded figure who had saved him. Your breath began to steady as you watched him, unmoving. The sound of growls and gurgles on the ground was the only thing that let you know that the world wasn’t frozen.
You were able to clock the fear in his own eyes as the moon moved past the canopy of leaves above.
"I’m (Y/n)." You said, making an attempt at a polite smile instead of wide eyes and deathly silence.
"How’d you end up’ up here?" He asked after a second.
"Oh, I chose to be up here." You explained.
"It’s cold." He stated.
You shrugged. He saw the action as you were completely made of shadow, moon directly behind you, casting a glow around your mysterious form. It was almost ethereal looking, but your nervous voice made the scene more comical than anything.
"Are you alone?" You asked him, breaking through the silence.
"I have a group. A community."
You didn’t want to pry about any of that so you opted for silence again.
"You alone?" He asked, looking around the empty forest.
"No." You answered quickly, pitch rising. "I.. my fiancé is with me."
His head moved. He was looking around.
"He’s not here now. He’s getting supplies." You lied. "But he’ll be back.. and don’t try anything cause he knows how to hunt and he’ll find you." You were being cowardly, you knew that, but in a situation like this, better to lie then end up dead.
"What-? I ain’t-" he was taken aback. "You’re fine. I jus’ wanna know if I was gonna get jumped."
You squinted as the moon disappeared behind the trees next to you, casted into darkness with the stranger once again.
"If someone does, they’re not with me." I assured him.
I saw the shadow of his shoulders fall a little. Just a little though.
"What’s your name?" You asked.
Silence followed for a minute.
"Daryl."
You nodded, forgetting he couldn’t see you.
"How’d you get pinned like that?" You pried.
"I was drivin’ n a walker was in the middle of the road. Couldn’t see it until I had to swerve into a tree and ended up out here.." Daryl explained, almost sounding angry or ashamed.
"You were out driving alone?" You asked.
He hesitated. "Yeah.. I’m out here by myself."
Your heart sank, ashamed by your lie when he was so obviously willing to tell you the truth.
"Hungry?" You asked, shame manifesting.
"Nah." He said. "..thanks, though.."
"Mm." You nodded, pulling your mushrooms back out and quietly eating.
"Your fiancé, he comin’ back now?"
"Why??" You hounded, mouth full.
"Does he have a way to know what he’s gonna come back to?" He looked at the slowly dispersing herd below.
"He’s gonna be fine." You said with an unintentional bitterness.
"Right.." the man didn’t want to cause an issue.
You pulled your blanket tighter, pit in your stomach sinking even further.
"You two, when he gets back, n’ if you’re interested, might be able to come back with me."
"To your community?" Yoh asked.
"Mm. You’d both have to answer some questions first, but we’ve got almost forty people and it’s a big place."
"I can’t." You said quickly. "We can’t."
"Why’s that?" He challenged.
You didn’t answer, hoping he’d drop it.
"You’re alone out here." He accused. "That right?"
You huffed. "I told you-"
"I don’t believe that."
You swallowed the lump in your throat.
"I’m fine out here by myself." You admitted.
"We’ve got more than enough room. It’s getting too cold to sleep in trees." He reasoned.
"Thanks, really, but I can’t." You told him sympathetically.
"How many walkers have you killed?" He asked, ignoring what you had said in its entirety. Though at the time, you thought that he had just dropped it.
"Maybe a hundred? Why?" You asked.
"How many people have you killed?" He asked.
You shuffled uncomfortably for a second.
"Three."
"Why?"
"Two of them, they were both bit. Had to.." you picked at the bark in front of you. "One of them cause he deserved it." Your chest rose with anger.
"What’s that mean?" He pried.
"Someone who hurts women." You stated simply. He understood instantly and you could tell.
"You sure bout stayin out here?" He asked.
You blinked back your tears. "I’m sure."
"Right." He said, barely a whisper.
The night grew quieter and your eyelids became heavy after a while. Even as you dozed off you knew how dumb it was to sleep in front of this stranger.
Maybe it was the months of isolation, but you didn’t feel as if you were in danger and without intention, you slipped into a cold sleep.
When Ao3 eventually comes back, you can find 40+ more chapters of this there :,)

Birthday surprise
Pairings: Daryl Dixon x Reader, Aaron x Reader (Platonic), Carol Peletier x Reader (Platonic)
Warnings: Swear words
Genre: Fluff
Challenge: Hair's breadth from death / Thick as Thieves / "That was not my intention." @fictober-event fanfiction - The Walking Dead
A/N: Whomp, this one has not been edited but IT'S MY BIRTHDAY so I don't care I wanted to write it!
Tumblr media
“Hey Y/N,” you heard Laura call from across the garden, “a little birdie told me it was your birthday.”
You sent her a tight smile, hoping not many people heard her exclamation. It wasn’t a secret or anything, you just didn’t like to be the center of attention, and birthdays were a sure-fire way to get every eye on you and a conversation around every corner.
“Yeah, it is,” you responded. Laura grinned.
“Well, happy birthday. Hope Dixon got you something nice,” she said. You rolled your eyes, turning away from the ex-Savior. You resumed your position of kneeling in front of a garden bed, planting tomatoes in the Alexandria garden. Directly in front of you was Aaron, who sent you a questioning look.
“It’s your birthday? Sorry, I had no idea,” he said. You shrugged.
“I don’t like to make a big deal out of it,” you confided. Aaron tilted his head in confusion, but chose not to ask.
“Happy birthday. How old are you turning?” he asked instead. You laughed, shooting him a faux offended look.
“A lady never reveals her age,” you joked.
“Come on, you don’t look a day over twenty,” he said, matching your teasing smile.
“Shut up,” you snorted, hearing him laugh at your response. You got back to planting, reaching back for a tomato plant when a familiar pair of boots appeared.
“Hey,” Daryl said, offering you a hand. You took it, letting him pull you up to greet him. He sweetly kissed you on the cheek before raising a hand to Aaron in greeting.
“Hi,” you said when he met your eyes. The corner of his lip quirked as you smiled at each other, him gently rubbing a hand up and down your arm.
“Hey Daryl,” Aaron said, drawing his attention. “It’s Y/N’s birthday!”
“Yeah, I know,” Daryl scoffed. Aaron chuckled.
“Got any plans?” he asked. At this, you raised a curious eyebrow at Daryl, who was suddenly refusing to meet your eyes.
“Not that we can discuss in present company,” Daryl said, releasing you from his grasp. You studied his face for any indication of his meaning, wondering what this man, notoriously averse to extravagance, could be planning for today.
It was not lost on you that birthday celebrations had become more popular in the time since Negan’s All Out War had ended, but still, you hadn’t expected to participate in one, let alone be on the receiving end of one.
Daryl turned to you once more, planting a soft kiss on your lips before bidding you both goodbye and walking away. You stood there for a moment, wondering what just happened, when Aaron’s grunt brought you back to your position.
“Tomatoes now, big birthday party later, right?” Aaron said. You smiled, shaking your head in disbelief once more before returning to the ground. The rest of the day, your hands were busy planting, but your mind was on the surprise plans later.
“Happy birthday, Y/N!” Carol exclaimed as soon as you entered the house. She stood in the kitchen, adding finishing touches to a cake she’d made earlier in the day. It was covered in chocolate frosting, your favorite, and had the words ‘Happy Birthday!’ written on top in looped green lettering. You shot out a laugh in shock.
“Wow, Carol, you didn’t have to do this, really!” you said, but hugged the woman in gratitude anyway.
You felt your eyes begin to tear up at the sight of this gift, knowing it must have taken her time and effort to just find the frosting, let alone bake and decorate a cake. You were incredibly lucky to have found such a beautiful, caring family in the apocalypse, full of people you loved and who loved you.
Speaking of, you began to wonder where the man you loved most was off to. He was usually home to greet you when you arrived, having finished his runs and meetings for the day long before you finished tending the gardens and walls.
But now, he was nowhere to be found. You sent Carol a questioning look, knowing she’d understand what you were wondering. She sent you a mischievous smile in return, reaching for the cake cover on the counter.
“Get showered and dressed,” she said. “We have somewhere to be.”
Thirty minutes later, Carol was leading you down the street, cake in hand. You had quickly washed the grime of the day off, but ran into a problem when deciding what to wear. Was the secret event a dressy one or casual? Indoors or outdoors? What if Daryl planned to take you camping for the night? You finally settled for a nicer top and jeans, slipping your usual boots on.
You had a feeling tonight was about you, so whatever you wore probably wouldn’t be scrutinized too much. You felt nervous as you walked with Carol, tuning out her chatter about the day as you wondered what this could possibly be. You had told Daryl you weren’t a big birthday person, so it would’ve been surprising if he’d planned a big party. Maybe this wasn’t about you at all, you were tempted to believe, except Carol was still clutching that cake.
She stopped suddenly, turning to face your destination: Aaron’s house. You furrowed your brows, noticing the lights were on but there was no movement inside. Carol gestured for you to go ahead of her. You took the steps slowly, reaching for the door handle, and when you stepped inside, you let out a gasp.
“Happy birthday!” You found yourself overwhelmed at the sight of your friends and family standing there, arms raised, smiles wide. Aaron, Gabriel, Rosita, and Eugene stood off to one side, Rick, Michonne, Judith, and RJ beside them. In the center was Daryl, watching your reaction with a nervous smile.
You grinned at all of them, covering your face in embarrassment. In no time they were swarming you, pulling you in for hugs and birthday wishes. You felt your eyes swelling with tears, once again reminded of the beautiful people still in your life, despite having lost so many others. The willingness to celebrate each other even in a world like this.
Once the greetings settled and everyone started to make their way into the kitchen for cake, you met Daryl’s eyes. He’d hung back in the corner, letting the others have their moment with you. Now you only had eyes for him.
He stepped forward, pulling you into a hug. You buried your head into his shoulder, squeezing him tightly, gratitude pouring out of you. Finally, you pulled back to face him.
“You’re amazing. This is amazing. Thank you,” you said. Daryl bit his lip, shrugging off your compliment, but you could tell he was thrilled by your response.
“‘s nothing,” he grunted. You shook your head, smiling at the wonderful man.
“It’s not nothing,” you said. “You make me feel so special. I’ve never had anything like this before.”
“Ya deserve it. An’ I knew ya didn’t want some big party or nothin’ so I just invited yer friends. Hope that was the right call,” he rambled. You smiled endearingly at him.
“Wise man, you are,” you said. Daryl scoffed.
“Ya callin’ me old, woman?” he teased. You grinned, leaning in to press your foreheads together.
“That was not my intention. Besides, we’re getting old together. Never thought that would happen for me, but I guess today’s the proof,” you said. Daryl held your eyes, heating your face with his intense look.
“It’s happenin’ for us. I’m here for ya, no matter what. Always gonna be there to throw ya parties and shit, I promise,” he said. You couldn’t help it, you pulled him in for a kiss. It was a kiss that burned your love for each other into each other’s skin. You held each other close, refusing to let go until you needed air.
“We should probably get in there,” you breathed out, noticing the way Daryl’s pupils had dilated. He hummed in agreement, reaching for your hand to slowly lead the two of you into the kitchen.
“Imma make your birthday plans every year, but the cake part is up to Carol. Ya don’t want me baking yer birthday cake, I promise ya that,” Daryl joked. You giggled, squeezing his hand. Birthdays in the apocalypse were different, for sure, but the sentiment of celebrating life with the people you love was unwavering.
