0-7, this one for sure isn’t Saiki heaven!
More evidence for the “saiki just uses low level hypnosis to make people believe whatever they want about him” theory. Actually, I think someone on Tumblr proposed this, kind of going off of his mind erasing power, where the mind just fills in a blank spot with a plausible story. I don’t remember who first brought up this theory. Make some noise if it was you.
I will be completely honest, I don’t remember this chapter at all. Maybe I skipped it or something. More likely, I read it half asleep at 3am.
I don’t understand why the spirit of the person is the thing that retains the dazed status effect, but then again, this is fiction, and we are pretending that souls exist in the first place in a way that can be separated from the body.
…okay. Another thing that really could have been put in the manga proper and also the anime. Nendou is being scouted as a PROFESSIONAL BASEBALL PLAYER?? HELLO???? That makes him at least 200% more impressive as a character.
Um… Saiki… those aren’t lies…
Hello??? SAIKI??? He’s really about to just leave Nendou’s body and wander around… I’m glad they added a definitive (rather short) time limit to the animanga before the soul has to go somewhere. It does bring up more questions about ghosts, and the religious belief system portrayed in Saiki k, but let’s not think about that right now. From the chapter thus far, seems like Saiki really enjoys taking otherwise purposeless strolls. Old man behavior.
Yeah, Saiki really is on another level.
This makes me kind of sad actually?? I’d explain but I’m sure you all can guess my thoughts here. Gah…
Also, it’s kind of nice to see glasses-less and limiter-less Saiki. He’s actually quite pretty. His limiters do a lot to detract from his looks overall, on account of being highly ridiculous accessories. And his glasses hide his eye color (speaking more of the anime, but you know.)
I have so many questions about this scene. How does a soul “wake up”? What happens when it does; does Saiki’s soul just automatically get kicked back into his proper body? Why did it take so long?? People can’t (rather: really shouldn’t) pass out for much longer than a few seconds. I’ll chalk it up to another Saikiverse modification where Saiki made real life more like a fictional story (and less harrowing. A world where fastballs are not potentially lethal.) And all of that crap about souls just doesn’t get explained. Okay. So much of this story is left up to readers to fill in the blanks with their own assumptions. Maybe that’s part of what makes it so good. Sidenote: I envy Nendou's superior ability to go with the flow. 'Oh, looks like I fell alseep while taking a shit.' <- Fantastic.
Jfc Saiki, so little faith in people. (Understandably.)
Saiki, I fail to see what the spinach has to do with you getting published in Jump.
XD
In all seriousness, the amount of times that people refer to Saiki’s powers as creepy or monstrous really is… a lot. Like, those baseball guys were calling Nendou (Saiki) a monster just for being (freakishly) good at baseball. Anyways
Yeah, that’s about what I figured. They’re designed to be read independently. XD. Yeah, sorry, I’m one of those people apparently. Well, I’m sure Asou never expected his manga to be read quickly via scans by English speakers some years after the fact.
I am so glad that Asou sensei got serialized. And that he didn’t let his self doubt stop him from creating Saiki k. Yeah, that’s right. Can’t let the fans down!
よし!that'll do it. See you all next time. 💫

Saiki Kuusuke and Teruhashi Kokomi guidebook full pages translation:
(left side) Disaster element: Unsuccessful attempted triggering of the World War.
Kusuo's older brother and a genius inventor with an IQ of 218. The eldest son of the Saiki family, currently studying abroad at Cambridge University. A genius who spoke his first words at 1 month old, but due to an inferiority complex because of his psychic younger brother, he ran away to London. ↑He takes pride in his top-class academic abilities even within the prestigious Cambridge University. ? To avoid encountering・・・・・・ Don't get caught on the surveillance cameras!! Kuusuke can hack into all of London's surveillance cameras in an instant. Isn't Japanese security a piece of cake in his hands? Let's find a place without cameras.
! If you happen to encounter・・・・・・ The topic of his younger brother is not allowed!! Because of his "younger brother complex", talking about his younger brother is strictly forbidden. If you do, he'll psychologically corner you. (right side) Ecological information: 【Name】 Saiki Kuusuke 【Height】 179cm 【Weight】 64kg 【Birthday】 June 16th 【Blood type】 B
Disaster Status: Intelligence S, Physical Strength B, Obsession S Genius ◎ Cambridge University Kuu-kun Extreme masochist 0 wins 4254 loses Dr. KU-SUKE
Overall disaster difficulty: 80% (C) You're safe in Japan, but be careful when travelling to London!
[Kusuo:] It seems that is such thing as a younger brother who surpass his older brother.
Main appearance spots Having left Japan at the age of 14, his current base of operation is mainly London. Almost never returns home.
(top left) Relaxing tea time Elegantly enjoying tea time while looking at his personal computer in a luxurious hotel room. He has amassed a massive wealth thanks to his patents! (bottom left) This is the best place to concentrate He goes to the library at the same time every week to read. Everyone knows that reading in this place is part of his daily routine. (top right) There is no such thing as a younger brother who surpasses his older brother・・・・・・ Due to studying abroad at Cambridge University, he is currently living alone away from his family. (bottom right) Reunion through the monitor You shouldn't feel safe just because he's not in Japan. Various machines can immediately turn into his cameras. There's no room for carelessness or weakness.......
Asou-sensei's idea memo: I indented from the beginning that Kusuo would have an older brother, and I also decided that he'd be a scientist who competes against Kusuo. However, it was difficult to find the right timing to introduce him. The only foreshadowing is on 2nd panel of page 12 of volume 2, where 3 fingers are held up.
(left side) Disaster element: The world revolves around Teruhashi-san.
The most beautiful girl in the world, loved by God. She is the idol of PK Academy and prides herself in such beauty that even God is captivated by her. Teruhashi-san is aware of this, which, frankly speaking, makes her invincible. →Even naturally formed clouds take shape of Teruhashi-san's wings.
? To avoid encountering・・・・・・ Avoid the crowds!! A crowd of onlookers gather around Teruhashi-san. So if there's a crowd, it's a warning sign.
! If you happen to encounter・・・・・・ Offu-ing! In case of encountering her, that'll bring you happiness, so there's no such thing as an avoidance technique. If you want to leave quickly, just say "offu".
(right side) Ecological information: 【Name】 Teruhashi Kokomi 【Height】 171cm 【Weight】 ?kg 【Birthday】 August 6th 【Blood type】 A
Disaster Status: Intelligence A, Physical Strength C, Appearance S 7 billion people's love A kind and perfect girl Children × Captive [of love] Offu Life on easy mode
Overall disaster difficulty: 75% (B) Since Teruhashi-san has an impressive number of followers, she is quite dangerous.
[Kusuo:] Even God obeys her.
Main appearance spots The reason Teruhashi-san goes out, is to show people her appearance!! Truly noble!! (top left) Bringing happiness to Hidariwakibara-chō by letting people see her On days off, even though she doesn't have much to buy, she strolls around the main street of Hidariwakibara-chō as an eye-candy for the purpose of enjoyment of people around her.
(bottom left) I only accompanied my brother Her brother is a super famous celebrity. They often go to the cinema together to watch the movies he's in.
(top right) If I wear it, it'll fly off the shelves, you know? Being a perfect beautiful girl, anything she wears will suit her. Therefore it's fine for her to shop in an ordinary clothing store in the town.
(bottom right) After-school girl talk. Lately, her way of enjoying herself has been talking about love with Yumehara and other classmates at cafes and dessert shops. Asou-sensei's idea memo: When you think about what person would be able to oppose Saiki, it has to be a "perfect beautiful girl", right? And if she's a perfect, beautiful girl, I think she'd definitely be aware of her charm, right? The reason she doesn't have any ribbons, a unique hairstyle or other prominent feature is because, being perfect, she doesn't need them.
#saiki kuusuke#saiki kusuke#kuusuke saiki#kusuke saiki#teruhashi kokomi#kokomi teruhashi#saiki kusuo#saiki k#tdlosk#the disastrous life of saiki k.#saiki k guidebook#translation#(i wouldnt consider his name being spelled kusuke here as the 'correct' way#as kaidou and nendou are spelled kaidoh and nendoh)#this doesn't exactly give a lot of new info (especially considering its from 2015) but it's still nice to have

𝕄𝕒𝕥𝕔𝕙 𝕌𝕡♡
hey if its ok cld i have a male matchup request for aot, saiki k and free? also cld i be anon? sorry if this is too long i wasn’t sure what the requirements were :0
appearance - im a 5 6’ girl with dark 4b hair up to my ears and curvy-ish. i have dark brown eyes and very light brown skin.
astrology/personality type - im a sun aries, moon cancer, rising virgo, and venus taurus. im equally fixed and mutable and im 4 fire and 3 water. im a INTP/ENTP and a 5w4 and a ravenclaw. my dominant signs are sagittarius and aquarius.
personality - i’m an ambivert and am a talker and a listener but with one on one conversation i prefer to be the listener. i get along well with people and have a variety of friends. im a spontaneous person and enjoy feeling exhilarated. im very open about myself unless it comes to my private life which im very closed off about and dont tend to open up to people about. i prefer to empathise and help others than to be helped. im very observant and find it easy to pick up on others behaviour, habits, body language, thoughts, emotions etc. and ive been told i give the best compliments because of how oddly specific they are. i value humour, kindness, spontaneity, intelligence, and a pure heart a lot and usually end up liking people with one of these qualities. im a very neutral person but if im passionate about something i can be very stubborn about it. i dislike germs and often get paranoid about them.
interests and hobbies - my main activity is athletics which i do about 3 times a week for 6-7 sometimes 9 if i do a competition in the weekend. i love reading books, mangas, watching anime and movies, sleeping, sometimes eating depending on my mood, walking for hours in random never ending fields at random odd hours, studying greek and roman mythology, learning about psychology, philosophy and ethics. i also like listening to music, doing random things and laughing with my friends, just being in the rain with someone, having witty banter, hugging and cuddling ppl.
thank u smm for this have a gd day! :)

Hello hello~! Of course you may have this match-up~! I do apologize that this took so long to get out, but I do appreciate the patience~! I hope you enjoy this as much as I did with writing it~!

𝕀 𝕊𝕙𝕚𝕡 𝕐𝕆𝕌 𝕨𝕚𝕥𝕙...
ʀɪɴ ᴍᴀᴛꜱᴜᴏᴋᴀ
The swimmer boy for you is Rin~! Though he likes to keep his thoughts to himself, he finds a level of trust in you that he’s comfortable in sharing almost everything with you after becoming good friends. He finds your spontaneous energy to be renewing whenever times get tough for him, and for that he’s thankful to you.
With your hobbies, whatever they may be Rin will try his best to accompany you to any competition that you’re a part of, and will most definitely take leisure time alone with you be it reading, studying, writing, anything where he can just be in your presence is enough for him.
ᴋᴜʙᴏʏᴀꜱᴜ ᴀʀᴇɴ
Trying hard to move past his life of a delinquent, Aren is most definitely thankful for your observant and understanding attitude. He loves how observant and kind you are and strives to be similar to you in that aspect as he also wants to provide you with the same level of comfort and reliance that you’ve set up for him.
Whenever he can, Aren will try to partake in any and all physical hobbies that you have. As it’s a way to help him with stress relief, and best know that he’ll be there at the front lines to cheer you on anytime that you’re part of a competition. Though he will admit that he may be impatient when it comes to getting to know you and learning about you, he will continue to force himself to be at least patient and at the utmost understanding towards you.
ᴊᴇᴀɴ ᴋɪʀꜱᴛᴇɪɴ
Though he may be stubborn and hot-headed at times, Jean is the one for you~. When times are rough and he has no one else to rely on, you appear to him as if a saving grace. Allowing him a chance to speak his mind and venting in most cases whenever no one wants to listen to his ramblings. For that, he is immensely thankful for you and will constantly remind you that he will always be there to lend a listening ear whenever you do need it.
When it comes to any sort of physical activity, he’ll try his damned best to keep up with you, but in all honesty he enjoys the times when he can just spend reading and basking in each other’s presence.

Tenipuri Party: Tezuka Kunimitsu profile translation
TN:
In the absence of an official English version, this translation is intended to help those who can’t read the material in the original language. Please support Tenipuri by getting your own copy of this book - it is worth it! There are various ways of purchasing it even for those not living in or visiting Japan.
The pictures I have included in this post do not show full pages.
On the translation: this time I’m aiming for a more direct, “Japanese-sounding” translation to share the mood of the content more as it is. This will probably cause some sentences to appear weird in English.
On Tezuka’s style of speech: his word choices and sentence structures are mostly polite and serious.
I’m still working on Japanese, so there might be mistakes. Please let me know if you spot any translation errors so I can fix them here!

Scenes
Injuries, seizing the nationals… Tezuka Kunimitsu overcame numerous challenges that waited for him and seized glory. But he is not a man who would be satisfied with that. From now on too, I want to pay attention to the steep path of him who moved over to Germany.
(Quotes on pictures:)
“I will not lose.”
“Saiki kanpatsu no kiwami!?”
“And then Seigaku’s era will begin once again!”
“Now, let’s go without carelessness.”
Indeed, it should perhaps be called a “Tezuka zone”.
“Hyakuren jitoku no kiwami!?”
This boy’s tennis is certainly Ten’imuhou no kiwami!?
“No matter who I will end up fighting… I will win!”
The German representatives’ strained atmosphere connects to rapid development (*1)
Tezuka-senshu (*2) becoming a German representative was a shock. Did you not have worries about this decision?
If I said no, it would be a lie. However, as to what is important for me as someone aiming to become a professional, I judged it to be fighting as a German representative and based my decision on that.
Specifically, the currently important thing for Tezuka-senshu is…?
Most of all, it is actual experience of fighting at a higher level. At the German training centre, I have the fortunate chance to rally with top pros like Volk-senshu. Even in practice, they are always making hypotheses as to which shot they should hit, what kind of a play they should make in any kind of match circumstances when they are standing on the court. Having put myself in such a strained atmosphere, I can truly feel my level of experience rising rapidly.
Any bewilderment at facing your former comrades…?
Whoever will become my opponent will not be a problem. But, at first, I thought I was feeling sorry. However, at the time of fighting Japan in the exhibition match, I came to realise my heart was throbbing about competing against them. But just fighting as sworn friends, it is not to elevate ourselves. Rather, by putting a net in-between and confronting each other, the light can come from a new angle and hasten growth - that is what I believe right now.
Then, what is Tezuka-senshu’s current objective or dream?
Upon seizing the world, to hold up the flag of Germany that showed in me, a foreigner. If the opponent for that match were to be Japan, there would not be higher joy.
In a well-ordered and non-negligent environment, pleasant days go on
Have you already grown accustomed to life in Germany?
Yes. Everything proceeds very systematically, so in that sense, it sometimes feels like it is actually even more pleasant than in Japan.
What things for example are like that?
Everyone is already gathered around 15 minutes before the set meeting time. The notion of ecology is growing, so most customers carry eco bags for their shopping, and the separation of waste is enforced thoroughly. Everything is done logically, and it’s an environment without negligence.
I see. It suits the serious Tezuka-senshu perfectly. Then, how do you spend your days off?
Touring antiquarian bookshops is currently my biggest enjoyment. From Goethe to Ende, I have been able to acquire several original texts that I couldn’t in Japan. Also, when time and money allow, I try to go to classical concerts.
What about the German language?
The German language too is a very systematic and logical language. There are very few exceptions, as long as one memorises the basic grammar and idioms, it is quite effective to use. Of course I still lack study, and there are many points where I lack experience, but words are not the only means of communication. Rather, sometimes it is facial expressions that speak more eloquently.
Facial expressions…?
Yes. Facial expressions.
Message for Tezuka Kunimitsu
As expected… should I say. Congratulations. (Inui)
YEEES! CONGRATULATIONS!! (Kawamura)
You should still be able to grow one rank higher. Put effort into your training. (Volk)
I will definitely not forget the thing that you taught me. Let’s meet on the court. (Fuji)
I’m glad you seem to be doing well in Germany too. Eat your meals properly! (Ooishi)
Tezuka-buchou-senpai, congratulations. We are protecting Seigaku. (Kaidou)
I’ll win one day, both in popularity and tennis! (Momoshiro)
You’re not planning on ending it at this? I’m waiting for the next opportunity to fight you. (Atobe)
Congratulatioons. But I’ll overcome you soon. (Echizen)
Are you doing well Tezuka? Send something tasty from Germany! (Kikumaru)
This guy is in 4th place!? Gimme a break! You can go higher than that! (Siegfried)
Party talk
Q: Who would you like to inform about this time’s rank and feelings? A: My family. My grandfather too is always supporting me.
Q: You are being served a lot of food. A: Ooishi. I’m grateful, but it’s already enough. I’m eating sufficiently… I tasted Japanese unacha for the first time in a while.
Q: You can also take part in an improvisation skit competition. A: … No, thank you. I was able to enjoy it quite a lot just by watching.
Q: You got excited with Bismarck-san, though... A: … I was merely unilaterally lectured about how to flirt with women.
Q: Who did you come to the venue with today? A: With the German representative senpai. In addition to training, we measured the time and ran to the venue.
Q: Oh? Is there something the matter with Echizen-kun? A: No. I just thought he seems to have gained experience and grown somewhat.

*2 選手, senshu: player, athlete. I chose to leave this as it is since the interviewer uses it all the time as an honorific, and couldn’t figure out a natural expression in English.
*3 連合音楽会, rengou ongaku kai. This seems to be some kind of an annual music event that at least schools participate into.
*4 It seems like a mistake that age 15 is placed at September, not October.

Here is some anime recommendations you didn’t know you didn’t want. I have watched 1522 episodes of anime in total, that is about 30 movies and about 45 anime series. In total that time is equal to 25 days of non-stop anime watching. So I am a decent fan I would say.
Anyways let’s get in to subcategories. It is past midnight so don’t judge me if I put some anime in the wrong category and- oh I remembered- I don’t care if I’m wrong äääää
Humor/action
Noragami - 8/10 its great
Cike wu Liuqi (Scissor seven) - 9/10 don’t you dare skip this one
Saiki Kusuo - 6/10 it’s decent, funny but a bit repeating
Ouran high school host club - 5/10 like I don’t watch that much shoujo anime but it was good
More “adult” anime (I don’t mean hentai, I fucking hate that, here I refer to violence and heavier themes)
Death note - 6/10 yea its good go watch it
Beastars - 5/10 I give it a relatively low score because all the sexual themes doesn’t go home with me, but it is actually really good
Devilman crybaby - 5/10 same as Beastars but it is not as good as Beastars but it is good you feel me?
Attack on Titan - 7/10 be ready for violence
Tokyo ghoul - 6/10 be ready for... blood?
Neon genesis evangelion - 6/10 like it is good but sometimes really hard to understand. Anyways just watch it for the intro
Shonen stuff
Blue exorcist - 6/10 decent, skip it of you want
My hero academia - 8/10 you haven’t missed it if you ever find this post so I wont’t tell you to watch it because you probably already have watched it.
Code geass - 5/10 sooo slow, way too much sexualisation, watch it if you enjoy tactics or whatever
Naruto - 8/10 (I mean both shippuden and part 1) okay hear me out. SKIP THE FILLERS and it is really good. Let’s be honest, it is shameful lazy animation from time to time but the story, worldbuilding and characters are worth it alone
Fullmetal Alchemist - 7/10 (I mean 2003 here) its a good anime that is all I will say
Mob Psycho 100 - 8/10 uuuuhhh what can I say just watch it
One Punch man - 9/10 yeah the score speaks
Demon Slayer - 8/10 If it wasn’t so slow at times it would get a higher score, but the animation alone is a 10/10
Sword art online - 5/10 watch the first season and then not an episode more
Kuutei dragons (drifting dragons) - 6/10 I don’t even know which category to put it in
The one anime you may never skip, because it is a fucking masterpiece and I won’t write a book of appreciation towards Hiromu Arakawa in this post but you get what I mean.
Fullmetal alchemist brotherhood - 10/10 let’s just say I have rewatched it 3 times, each time in less than a week and I let you do the math- I didn’t sleep that much those weeks
Next up- what anime movies to watch
Watch studio Ghibli movies, and I mean all of them. About 18/22 of the all the studio Ghibli movies are worth watching and the top 10 on my ranking list are masterpieces.
What to not watch
K - 0/10 worst thing I have ever watched, also read below, same as seven deadly sins
Seven deadly sins - 0/10 couldn’t even finish it because BAD FEMALE CHARACTERS, HENTAI AND MY FEMENIST BRAIN DOESN’T WORK WELL TOGETHER

Final Thoughts - 2018 Long Shows
It’s finally here! I’m so close to being done with 2018 (...mostly. We’ll get to it) that I can taste it, but in the meantime, this list is gonna be weird, because there will be things that were already on other lists since I revised my rules of what should be classified how. This post is specifically for any show that ended in 2018 and lasted longer than 13-ish episodes (including shows that aired a second season during the same year or within six months of finishing the previous one), which means that there’s about as much on it as a usual season of shows, but they all had more time to impress - or disappoint me. I’m doing a better job in recent seasons of getting to everything, but last year there were unfortunately things that I missed (I was burned out in the winter) and just have to leave aside for now because I can’t wait any longer for these lists.
Anyway! As usual, let’s start with what I skipped!
* The Seven Deadly Sins: Revival of the Commandments, The Disastrous Life of Saiki Kusuo S2, Cardcaptor Sakura Clear Card, Garo: Vanishing Line, and Mr Tonegawa: Middle Management Blues because I haven’t seen their previous seasons or parent works. (Yes, even Cardcaptor Sakura. Y’all can shoot me later.)
* Hakyuu Hoshin Engi, Beatless, and Basilisk: The Ouka Ninja Scrolls because by the time I was rounding things up, I hadn’t heard a single positive thing about any of them.
Next comes what I dropped -
WORST OF THE YEAR: Steins;Gate 0 (4/10)
What a fucking mess this show was. Aside from a very noticeable downgrade in production talent from its predecessor, the plot meanders and flirts with maybe actually happening this time before just dropping out again, over and over, to the point where I was perfectly willing to drop it two episodes from the finish line because it was such an insult to fans of the original. (Also, continued disgusting mistreatment of the transgender character.)
Gundam Build Divers (4/10)
Taking the Build series from being a well-written kids show to an averagely-written kids show that hides itself in decent mech designs.
Katana Maidens (4/10)
I remember so little about this show, and granted that I did drop it after one episode almost nine months ago, but what I did remember was that it gave me strong KanColle vibes with laughably inconsistent animation and flat characters. Meh.
Darling in the FRANXX (5/10)
This should probably be lower on the list, but I got out of Darling while the getting was good, sixteen episodes in. I understand that future episodes of the show cemented it as crappy right-wing nonsense in addition to pushing worldbuilding out of its fortieth-story window, but the moment it lost me was much sooner, when the crazy yandere female lead was reduced, almost instantly, to Good Anime Waifu as a reward to the protagonist for going against his friends with his selfish motives.
Persona 5 the Animation (5/10)
In addition to not actually finishing in 2018, Persona 5 just did not give me a single reason to watch it when I’d already finished the source game, with middling-to-bad visuals (thanks to the switch from Production I.G. to A-1 Pictures, and not even the team that created the much better-looking Day Breakers OVA before the game was released in the U.S.) and phoned-in music, which is especially unacceptable in a Persona adaptation. Also, we all absolutely called that the studio couldn’t tell the story of the entire game in just 26 episodes.
Record of Grancrest War (6/10)
There’s people that like this one a lot, but I didn’t see much that interested me in the first two episodes. I’ve heard better things about the manga.
Golden Kamuy (6/10)
I had problems with the first half of Golden Kamuy that the second half simply didn’t fix, and it became difficult for me to keep watching - the show still interrupted almost every fight scene with a dick joke, but still wanted to maintain a serious and occasionally frightening tone - and those things simply don’t go together. It needed to either spend more time being funny, or keep its lowest-common-denominator humor out of the fights.
Next, I have two shows that are (potentially permanently) On Hold, simply because it’s time for me to move on and I don’t have the time or energy to marathon them when the Winter shows are starting to wrap up:
Kakuriyo: Bed & Breakfast for Spirits, because even though I initially dropped it, I’ve heard a lot of good things since and I want to eventually give it another shot.
Yowamushi Pedal Glory Line, because despite the fact that I still enjoyed the previous season, this one started right in the middle of my burnout and I only heard bad things about it. I’ll get to it eventually, but it’s a shame that this series has been on a clear trend downwards since its revival.
And finally, the stuff I finished!
The Ancient Magus’ Bride (6/10)
Keep in mind that this is here entirely on the merits of its aesthetic and its side characters - in the end, Ancient Magus’ Bride is a Beauty and the Beast story where the beast gets what he wants without learning to be less of a dick or even apologizing for his clearly wrong actions.
Major 2nd (7/10)
Always pleased to have even just Good sports shows around, and this one is a very effective reboot of a classic series that’s never made its way stateside (man, the underperformance of Big Windup! really did a lot of damage to this genre in the West). With good character development and a decent second-generation premise, Major 2nd has the potential to be the beginning of a solid baseball story, assuming that it gets a needed followup.
IDOLiSH7 (7/10)
I dropped IDOLiSH7 when it first aired, and though I wound up enjoying it after I was very strongly urged to revisit it, the problems it started with never quite left it behind - that is, it has an okay cast of characters but doesn’t present even passable performance sequences, and if you’re going to include big song-and-dance numbers, they have to be good, or you may as well just be UtaPri.
ClassicaLoid Season 2 (8/10)
In 2017, I gave the first season of ClassicaLoid a near-perfect 9/10, and while this season gives us a satisfying conclusion to the story, it does things both a little better than the first, and also not quite as great. It’s story is much more well-integrated over the runtime so it doesn’t happen all at once in a few chunks, and the jokes that work are still absolute genius, but there’s simply too much that doesn’t quite land correctly, and a little too much immature humor, for it to reach the same lofty Hall of Fame heights as the first season. Still, one of the most underrated shows I’ve ever seen.
My Hero Academia Season 3 (8/10)
God, Izuku in that onesie is too damn cute.
My problems with Hero Academia are frustratingly persistent - the show is at its best when the students are competing with other students, because outside of last season’s Stain (a villain whose motivation is specifically related to the world of MHA), the villains are just not at all compelling and they all seem a little too generic for their own good. I just want Horikoshi to be a little bit less predictable of an author and do a little less reading of the Standard Shounen Playbook. Luckily, when it works, it works magnificently.
March Comes in Like a Lion S2 (8/10)
March remains director/auteur Akiyuki Shinbo’s most accessible work, and one of his masterpieces, as a well-paced and marvelously moody story of a depressed shogi prodigy learning to be a normal teenager before his youth completely passes him by, and the fantastic characters that surround him with their own complex problems and motivations. I just really, really hope it gets a third season eventually, because this one did not leave off on a satisfying conclusion.
Speaking of which...
Food Wars! Shokugeki no Soma S3 (9/10)
It’s almost a shame that My Hero Academia became hugely popular purely based on its accessibility to American audiences, because Food Wars pretty squarely deserves to be the reigning Shonen Jump king - each season has only improved on the previous one, and this one was based entirely on a continuing arc that could only have happened in the universe of this show, Fighting Food Fascism. That being said, it also leaves off right in the middle of the arc (because it had almost caught up to the manga), meaning that we have to hope that it can remain relevant long enough for there to be enough source material for another season. I’ll be crossing my fingers until they snap.
Banana Fish (9/10)
Yes, this has risen a point since my review, but Banana Fish still deserves to be thought of as both a complete masterwork of crime fiction, being fantastically paced and expertly plotted in the use of its many, many twists, and a work that disappointed the side of me that hoped that, in adapting it into the modern day, MAPPA could have managed to get the author to let them depict what is clearly a queer relationship with the authenticity and legitimacy that it deserved. It’s still amazing, though, and Amazon should be pushing it with their most lavishly-made originals. At least it was the last noitaminA show they’ll get to totally bury.
And, finally, the one you all saw coming.
BEST OF THE YEAR: Lupin the 3rd Part V (10/10)
Lupin is, quite simply, one of the pinnacles of the medium. A simple idea that can (and did) go in thousands of different directions, handled by highly creative writers and an animation staff that has been knocking it out of the park for years, despite the fact that it is criminally (heh) unrecognized in the West. To put it simply, there’s a very, very good reason that it’s been around since the 70′s.
Okay! All I have left to do is finish Dragon Pilot (waiting on a friend) and we can get the last two lists out of the way! We’re almost done...

I've been following you guys for about a year and I've been wondering... How did PSI Scans come to be? What made the you decide to start the group? Do you still have all the members you started out with?... Etc. I'd just like to know more about the history behind your group, if you're ok with talking about it.
Thank you so much for asking!
We've just passed the two year mark from when this group was first created- so here's a timeline of PSI Scans history under the break:
Late October, 2015: eyfey received an anonymous message saying:
"A small (and by small i mean BIG) part of me wants you to translate saiki kusuo cause nobody's donating for it on spinyback to get translated (no i don't have the money to donate either) but that be dependent on whether YOU want to do it"
SpinyBackTeam was the group scanlating Saiki at the time, but it had been months since their last release, and no one was sure when the next release was coming out, if ever.
eyfey said they'd be on board to do translations if someone else would handle redrawing/typesetting.
October 27th, 2015Shortly after that message, seirui and milaza contacted eyfey, and the three of them formed a team and began working on chapters.
Sadly neither seirui or milaza stayed around past the first couple releases- leaving eyfey as the only founding member who's still currently working on the scanlations. Without seirui and milaza though, this group never would've been created and we never would've made it to where we are today
Late November, 2015At some point as we were working on the chapters, Spinyback re-did their website and ended up removing Saiki completely. We thought they had dropped the series for sure at this point, so we kept working at our slow slow pace.
December 9th, 2015Before we could make our first release, SpinyBack released a new chapter out of the blue! We has 4 chapters translated at this point and weren't sure whether or not to continue with the scanlation or just give up and let SpinyBack handle it... We decided to wait and see if they would start updating more regularly.
December 24th, 2015 Just for fun, eyfey solo'd chapter 33 for a special christmas release. (SpinyBack still hadn't released any new chapters since the one at the beginning of the month)
December 29th, 2015Spannersq joined the team to help with cleaning! (and did basically all the cleans for - Spannersq is still on the team today!)
SpinyBack still hadn't released any new chapters, so we decided to just go ahead and do it ourselves. (I still regret not messaging SpinyBack about it though. It didn't occur to me at the time, but it hindsight it was pretty rude to just start on a project someone else was already working on... we just desperately wanted people to be able to read more of this amazing manga.)
December 31st, 2015This was the day Spannersq came up with the name PSI Scans for our group! With a name we were finally ready to release some chapters!
Janurary 5th, 2016Our first official release! After 3 months of uncertainty, we finally released chapter 31~ ...in pretty poor quality. At this time, we were using low quality magazine scans as our raws and no one on the team really had any experience with cleaning or redraws.
Luckily! Shortly after our release, Otafreek joined us: bringing high-res raws and informative typesetting/cleaning guides, causing the quality of our scans to skyrocket. Otafreek also had raws for volume 0, so we were able to go back and translate those chapters as well.
...and that's not all! We also got another new member that day: Snazzyhelmet! Who joined as a translator!
Otafreek only stuck around for a chapter or so, but Snazzyhelmet has been doing translations ever since and is still one of our current active translators!
January 15th, 2016We released the first chapter of volume 0: our first high quality chapter!
March 26th, 2016No new chapters yet... eyfey and snazzyhelmet had been keeping up with translations (we were already done with vol0 and about 6 chapters into vol4) but unfortunately life had gotten busy for both Spannersq and Otafreek. Spannersq ended up taking a break for about a month, and Otafreek retired completely. In their absense eyfey took over typesetting, purchasing/scanning raws, and cleaning/redrawing.
March 28th, 2016We released the 2nd chapter of vol0! This was also the end of month long gaps between releases.
May 2nd, 2016The Saiki anime was announced! Spannersq was back cleaning at full speed and we'd been keeping up a steady release speed (about one chapter per week)
May 7th, 2016Le joined the team as our new typsetter, and took care of typesetting for most of the chapters in volume 4 + the first half of vol5 before retiring~
May 15th, 2016As we were getting close to the end of vol4, we decided to go back and re-do the first couple chapters of vol4 before starting on vol5 - it meant a few more weeks without "new" chapters, but this way we could have decent quality versions of all our releases.
This was also the day a Meho7 very generously donated raws for vol 7-8~
May 20th, 2016Misterquire joined as a redrawer - providing us with beautiful beautiful redraws for many months, but eventually retiring ;v;
July 4th, 2016The anime was released! This doesn't really have anything to do with the manga scanlation, but hype was up and the number of Saiki fans was increasing! (the anime managed to overtake us pretty fast though, and soon it was releasing episodes of stuff we hadn't translated yet TvT )
June 8th-9th, 2016Sroa joined as our 2nd designated redrawer, and a day later LAR joined as a cleaner! (Sroa was a huge help with redraws for the next couple months until they retired, and LAR is still an active cleaner today!)
July 16th, 2016Teleport-teapot joined as our 3rd redrawer! They brought us beautiful, fast redraws for months until they eventually retired~
July 18th, 2016Nashi joined and took over typesetting for Le and has been creating beautiful typesets for us ever since~(Nashi is currently one of our two active typesetters.)
July 20th, 2016Kamo joined as a 3rd translator- working hard until January, when they had to take a 10 month hiatus for computer problems, but that hiatus has just ended and now Kamo is back as one of our current active translators!
August 3rd, 2016Six joined as a translator, stuck around for a handful of chapters, and disappeared as mysteriously as they came~
August 19th, 2016On this day: Sisselwolfgang and maou-shoujo joined the team as beautiful beautiful beautiful redrawers. This truly was a golden age of redrawing for PSI Scans TvT
Sisselwolfgang worked for a good long time before eventually needing to take a break from scanlation, but Maou-shoujo is still consistently creating godlike redraws with us today!
October 31st, 2016Dollyl joined the team as a second typesetter, bringing gorgeous speedy typesets to us all~ Dollyl is still typesetting today alongside Nashi as one of our 2 current active typesetters!
At this point, we'd also passed the one year mark for the group! In that first year, we'd made it all the way to chapter 65- meaning we finished about 45 chapters total, if you include vol0 + the one shots~
To compare that with the previous groups working on Saiki: DarkMurmur = 11 chapters per year (2 years to finish the first 22 chapters)SpinyBackTeam = 12 chapters per year (technically they only did 8 chapters, but their pace averaged out to about one chapter per month)
So we were working at a pretty good speed- especially considering that we didn't actually release anything for the first couple months, haha.
November 22nd-23rd, 2016Miyo-sai joined the team as a translator, and Toumikasa joined as a cleaner!
Miyo-sai stuck around and translated a handful of chapters before moving on in life, but Toumikasa is still working as one of our active cleaners today!
Dec 15, 2016Ichi joined the team as a redrawer! They did a number of redraws over the next couple months before going on indefinite hiatus~
January 1st 2017,We decided to make the switch from ouph to offu starting in vol 9- since the author released a chapter with it spelled out as OFFU in English. So long ouph~ You will be missed~
April 1st + 11th, 2017Ykun and Jeddle joined as a translators! Both of them are still translating with us today!
May 10th, 2017Rupali joined as a redrawer- by this point maou-shoujo was the only other active redrawer.
Rupali is still with the group today, but is on a sort of semi-hiatus while they're busy.
May 22nd, 2017sefway3 joined as a redrawer! They're one of our few current active redrawers!
June 16th, 2017We finally reached the last chapter that was featured in the anime ;v; (almost a year after the anime first aired)
July 22nd, 2017peaceful-waldeinsamkeit joined the team as a redrawer! Hooray!
September 4th, 2017vulpi111 joined as a cleaner! Hurrah!
September 10th, 2017femalecorpse joined as a redrawer! Huzzah!
Peaceful-waldeinsamkeit, vulpi111, and femalecorpse are all still active members of the team today~
And that brings us to where we are today! We've just passed the two year mark of when the group was founded, and we've just released our 142nd chapter (including oneshots + omake chapters).
It's also worth mentioning, there are many many more members not on this list that have joined and left our team over the years: Some only doing one or two chapters before moving on, some who have joined recently but haven't started working yet, and some who joined and then left without ever finishing their first chapter...
Scanlating is hard work and it takes up a lot of time, plus most people who work on manga like this are also trying to balance school and/or jobs, so it takes a very dedicated person to be able to start scanlating and then stick with it. But even those who only finished one or two chapters before needing to retire were a huge help to getting us to where we are today! (but if I listed all of them this list would be way too long, so we're sticking to just the people who stuck around a little longer for now~)
But yeah! That's the history of this group! There's still a little over 100 chapters left to go, and more coming out every week, so it looks like we've still got at least another year at this rate before we catch up (though that could be much much sooner if we got more redrawers and translators...) But in any case, we'll keep doing our best to work hard until the day all of Saiki Kusuo has been translated into English!
Thank you all for reading!

1-6, no new tricks. Just like before, I’ll read some more.
1-7, let’s keep revvin’. This is a double feature, let’s not detour.
Even I find Hairo inspiring. What a kid. Look at all of the guys blushing when he suggests something with that look of pure enthusiasm. It’s contagious. Hairo is basically the male Teruhashi. However, unlike Teruhashi, it’s possible for him to overdo it.
I think Saiki should make this kind of face more often. He never does the creepy/morose explanation of how his powers can maim people after this. Disappointing. (the editors were probably like, you do know this is shonen jump, right?)
Asou sensei still doing nothing to negate the Nensai allegations.
Saiki already knows that Nendou is good at athletics, even though as of the beginning of volume 1, Saiki’s never seen him play sports.
So, this could imply that the volume 0 works hold a degree of canonicity. Let’s call it “cherry pickingly canon.” Parts of it are canon and parts aren’t, and you the reader gets to guess based on what is changed from volume 0 to the main comic and what is referenced. Or maybe Saiki just knew from off-screen events that he’s good at sports. That’s always possible.(<— words of a woman who is too used to ignoring occam’s razor)
this is so sweet though???
And so it begins: Saiki’s terrible luck.
Saiki… that is an exaggeration. Honestly. You wouldn’t become a school hero after one dodgeball game. Especially considering your previous ‘gloomy average underachiever’ reputation.
And also Hairo would very much NOT be marked as a war criminal. Saiki’s social senses are always so off…
saiki can throw a baseball at the speed of sound??? daaaaaaaaaaamn.
Lmaooooo. Saiki’s completely obsessed with maintaining averageness. I like how this implies the average interpersonal favorability rating doesn’t exceed 99. So if you like someone more than that, you break the meter. Like his parents.
And Saiki healed him 🥺 I’m going to assume Saiki also touched him really quickly, because otherwise that raises questions of if he can heal people without contact.
XD
Yeah, people DEFINITELY think these two are dating by the end of the manga. Sorry, Saiki.
Thus ends 1-6 and 1-7💫
#is today the day I start shipping NenSai?#…no. however. I do Get It#upon reread#read-saiki#read-saiki 1-6#that guy in the background with one eyebrow raised. ahahaha#read-saiki 1-7

The Week in Anime (Week of 3/26/18)
Herro everybody and welcome to a late version of TWiA! Sorry for the unannounced delay -- got a bit sick and focused more on rest. But I’m (somewhat) better now, just in time to talk about a few shows’ conclusions, including one which is early AOTY. So with that, let’s start it off right away with...
The News Corner:
So this time there’s actually something I can talk in pretty good detail about, and that’s:
Hitoribocchi no ○○ Seikatsu anime announced!
One of the few manga I’ve read (and enjoyed), this is basically a moe, less cringy version of WataMote. Basically it’s about a girl named Hitori Bocchi with severe social anxiety. She enters a new middle school without her only friend, who forces her to make 100 friends at said school. Cue the shenanigans.
Now I’ve read a handful of chapters of this one, and it’s a good ‘un. Obviously it’s #relatable, but it’s also pretty cute and very fluffy -- no drama here. Plus all of the characters’ names are puns: Hitori Bocchi -> hitoribocchi = alone as an example. Oh and it’s by the same mangaka as Mitsuboshi Colors, though I think this one is the better work in my biased opinion. Pretty excited for this one, maybe more than I should be.
K now rankings, featuring finished shows!
Rankings:
1 (0). Yuru Camp△ (9/10 FINAL) [12/12]
2 (0). Koi wa Ameagari no You ni (8.5/10) [11/12]
3 (+1). Violet Evergarden (8/10) [11/14]
4 (-1). Saiki Kusuo no Ψ-nan 2 (8/10) [10/24]
5 (0). Poputepipikku/Pop Team Epic (6/10 FINAL) [12/12]
6 (0). Takunomi. (6/10) [11/12]
7 (+1). Dagashi Kashi 2 (5.5/10) [11/12]
8 (-1). Gakuen Babysitters (5/10 FINAL) [12/12]
Awards:
Best Comfy: Yuru Camp
Let me start by saying this: the last episode of this was a bit underwhelming. Though that would be case when they continue off the previous episode, it didn’t really feel like a finale. I did like the throwback to the first episode with Nadeshiko/Kirby going to the same campsite Rin did in episode 1. It all goes full circle.
Now overall thoughts on the show. It was good. Actually more than good, it was probably one of the best airing shows I’ve ever seen. That’s not an exaggeration: ReLIFE is technically the highest-ranked show I watched while it was airing, but that doesn’t really count since all of the episodes came out at the same time. So the next man up is Yuru Camp, a show that I watched the moment I woke up on Thursdays, no matter how busy I was with life. Every episode was filled with maximum comfy, hilarious antics, and great Irish folk-inspired BGM. With the exception of one episode, it was consistent in animation/character design (which btw was great: I loved the design of every character). Not to mention the backgrounds of the campsites were A+. I could go on, but 1. I’m still a bit sick right now and 2. I’m gonna save the big details for the end-of-season award post.
So tl;dr, Yuru Camp is really really good. It’s not K-On where I recommend it to people who generally don’t watch SoL shows, but for those who want some comfy in your life or like CGDCT/SoL shows, I would highly highly recommend this. 9/10, a fantastic journey.
Worst Finale: Pop Team Epic
Wow that was something. Not really what I expected, but also entirely what I expected. As expected of the shitpost of the season.
So I guess this is the part where I analyze the show and talk about it, but to be honest, I don’t have much to say about it. There were some really amazing segments (freakin’ Hellshake Yano) and there were segments that flew over my head even after learning about what it parodied. Honestly, I’m impressed with the amount of work for what amounted to be such a huge shitpost. If there’s one thing I’m disappointed in it’s that they never used the “hambaga” joke, the one I’m sure a lot of people know given it’s usually the strip that introduces you to Pop Team Epic (I know it did for me). Still, I enjoyed watching the episodes twice, and at the end of the day it was a nice way to start off the weekends. So a good 6/10 overall: would reluctantly recommend.
Best Brother Complex: Gakuen Babysitters
Ah yes that was an episode. It was a nice ending to show the friendships and relationships that Ryuuichi makes throughout the season all in one place. Very fitting for the finale.
But now I have to talk about the #1 issue I had with the show. Actually scratch that, let me start with the positives -- it was very cute. The kids made for some fun times, and there were some legitimately tear-jerking episodes in the beginning parts in regards to Kotaru and Ryuuichi with their situation.
Towards the second half of the show, though, is when I realized something. And that’s that Ryuuichi is a pretty bad character. He’s your standard nice guy MC, with some knowledge in childcare added in. I realized this during the Valentine’s day episode (and any subsequent episode featuring either Yuki or Inomata). Now this probably isn’t really a problem for the demographic of this show (mostly female), but as a male I found the dude a bit generic. It also didn’t help that he had a really close relationship with Kotarou. Like a bit too close. I’m not saying he has a straight up bro-complex like the award title implies, but when Kotarou pretty much influences his social life, it’s something. Yeah there’s the whole thing with their parents dying and all that, but it’s still concerning to me how much he thinks about Kotarou. Well maybe it’s just my viewpoint, seeing as I don’t have siblings/never had my parents die (though I did live in a single-parent household). So I guess chalk it up to “wasn’t really my thing”.
Even with that, though, this show was enjoyable to watch, and I don’t regret picking it up. A high 5/10 for me, would recommend.
Best Episode of the Week: Violet Evergarden
Okay, I thought last week’s episode was sad. Well, this week’s was even worse in that regard. I don’t know why, but this week’s episode hit me harder. AND NOW SPOILER WARNING (btw if you haven’t been watching this show DO START NOW because it’s really started to pick up recently).
The moment I saw Aiden and his picture of Maria, I knew things would go wrong. That only got worse when he got shot, though there was some hope when Violet saved the dude. But then the slow death was a killer, and the letter delivery was the killing blow. Yes my friends, I shed one tear. I know, amazing.
In all seriousness, I’m loving the episodes so far from Violet Evergarden. I love it when an anime gets me invested in a show to the point where I put all of my emotions towards it. It’s happening with this show and After the Rain, and the last notable time it happened was with ERASED. At that point it becomes more like something you experience, rather than something you watch. And all of this wouldn’t have been possible without the episodes people called “slow”. Sasuga KyoAni for the long con.
And that’s all for this week! Look out for the annual “Shows I’m Watching for the Spring 2018 season” post which should be out within the next few days. Anyways, thanks for reading and I’ll see you in the next post!

The Week in Anime (Week of 3/19/18)
Hello and welcome to a short Tuesday edition of TWiA (well it’s still Tuesday here)! With problem sets finished (for the most part), I am a free man!... until April when life gets busy again. But before that, since next week is spring break for us REDACTED COLLEGE folks, that means I’ll hopefully have all of the time to catch up on stuff I’ve wanted to watch (Antarctica). Or it means I’ll spend the week sitting in my room doing nothing. Or both. I’m thinking both.
Anyway, let’s start this late edition with...
The News Corner:
So this time I actually have something interesting to talk about, and that is...
Ace Attorney anime gets second season
Like a lot of second season announcements I talk about, I have one thing to say: WHY (that’s a bad WHY by the way). A mediocre show gets another chance, and then there are some pretty good shows that have nothing. I’m amazed more than anything, probably the most out of the few second season announcements I’ve seen. With shows like Dagashi Kashi and Amanchu, I can see the appeal for some people and a second season makes sense for both given their popularity in Japan. Kakegurui is at least a good show so I’m glad it got a second season. But Ace Attorney... I’m not sure. The adaptation was definitely 1-1, but it lacked any sort of “passion”. What I mean by that is that the game was literally translated to anime form, which didn’t work at all given the game is 90% standing in court. Now this season is a bit interesting given they’re adapting the third game, which in a lot of people’s eyes is the best game of the series. So that counts for something. But still, I’m not optimistic for this one. So much so that I might not even watch it. Ah who am I kidding I’ll still watch it...
And now rankings and stuff:
Rankings:
1 (0). Yuru Camp△ (9/10) [11/12]
2 (+1). Koi wa Ameagari no You ni (8.5/10) [10/12]
3 (-1). Saiki Kusuo no Ψ-nan 2 (8/10) [9/24]
4 (+3). Violet Evergarden (7/10) [10/14]
5 (-1). Poputepipikku/Pop Team Epic (6.5/10) [11/12]
6 (-1). Takunomi. (6/10) [10/12]
7 (-1). Gakuen Babysitters (6/10) [11/12]
8 (0). Dagashi Kashi 2 (5.5/10) [10/12]
Awards:
Best Show I Didn’t Realize Was Best Show: Koi wa Ameagari no You ni
So it took some time, but I realize now that After the Rain is possibly one of the better shows I’ve watched in a while. If it wasn’t for Yuru Camp, I would be endlessly singing the praises of this from its great cinematography to the well developed characters and tasteful portrayal of taboo relationships. Next to Yuru Camp it’s been the episode I’ve looked most forward to every week. Plus it doesn’t help that I’ve been on a binge of HoneyWorks songs recently and the OP of this show is a song by them.
How this show ends up really depends on the ending, so it’s still too soon to say anything about it overall. But so far... it’s been a fun ride. Hope it stays like that.
Best Episode of the Week: Yuru Camp
...jk it’s Violet Evergarden
Haha you thought Yuru Camp was the best episode of the week? Well it was. Until I watched this week’s episode of Violet Evergarden.
Now don’t get me wrong. Yuru Camp’s episode this week was superb. We finally get all 5 main characters camping together, and it was as great as advertised. Hijinks for days. Side note: I’m sad next week is the final episode. But we move on, and there’ll be plenty of other great stuff to watch.
Like Violet Evergarden. Since there’s still 4 episodes left, I’m interested to see how it’ll finish up. And actually, that’s what I was wondering last week when we found out the stuff we found out. SPOILER WARNING from this point onward.
Once Violet accepted the major’s death, I was wondering what direction the show would go. That direction: back to the episodic tales pre-war flashback. At first I thought those were the episodes that made the show... boring. But actually, they served a purpose in developing the side characters, as well as give some backstory to Violet and show her character development. Because without those episodes, this week’s episode would have lost some of the impact it had.
Take for example the very last scene, when Violet finally lets go after holding back for the entire week she was at the Magnolia household. Who woulda thunk that the emotionless Violet we knew from a few weeks ago would carry the empathy for this girl and her situation? Just rushing straight from her war days to this point wouldn’t have shown how much she impacted the lives of others, and wouldn’t have given her a good reason to accept the death of her loved one. And in turn, it wouldn’t have given the reactions in this episode the same gravitas it had. Turns out KyoAni knew what they doing: I trust them to see off this show in the best way possible.
...And no I didn’t cry. But I was really close.
And that’s all for this week’s late post! Apologies for the delay -- shouldn’t happen too often hopefully. With a smaller number of shows to watch it’s been easier for me to keep up on the stuff I need to.
Anyway thanks for reading, and I’ll see you in the next post!

The Week in Anime (Week of 2/26/18)
Hello and welcome to another version of TWiA! This week’s post (and the next few weeks) are gonna be pretty short, what with midterms coming up and all that. Hopefully that doesn’t mean delays because now I’m writing the blurbs right after watching the show instead of waiting until Sunday night (hooray procrastination). But we’ll see.
So yeah let’s start off this week with a news blurb from this week, with:
The News Corner:
This week’s big news is something I can’t really talk too much about, but it’s so big that I have to mention...
Chihayafuru Season 3 announced
This is a show that’s been on my PTW list for a while. Well, I guess now I have to watch it.
So for those who don’t know what it’s about... well that’s a good question. Neither do I. But it’s a good anime, and everybody wanted another season of it. 5 years after the second season, they finally got it. It’s always nice to see a good anime get another installment. Now if only a certain anime about a Paras and manga get another season...
Kay, with that let’s go to the rankings:
Rankings:
1 (0). Yuru Camp△ (8.5/10) [8/12]
2 (0). Saiki Kusuo no Ψ-nan 2 (8/10) [6/24]
3 (0). Koi wa Ameagari no You ni (8/10) [7/12]
4 (0). Violet Evergarden (7.5/10) [7/14]
5 (0). Poputepipikku/Pop Team Epic (7.5/10) [8/12]
6 (0). Gakuen Babysitters (7/10) [8/12]
7 (0). Takunomi. (6.5/10) [7/12]
8 (0). Dagashi Kashi 2 (5/10) [7/12]
Awards:
The QUALITY Episode of the Week: Yuru Camp
Oh man, this is what I feared the most with this show, especially with a newer studio handling it in C-Station. This episode had some pretty QUALITY faces to the point where it was distracting. The episode was still funny and it had its moments, but the faces really detracted from the experience. For the show’s sake, I hope this was a one-time thing and not a sign of things to come. Because if it’s the latter, this show joins the infamous group of “shows I hyped up mid-season that flopped at the end”. And I don’t want that to happen to such a fun and comfy show.
Unexpected Best Girl Award: Takunomi
I would have never thought that a random CGDCT short would have such a good character. Well, let me clarify: good in my view. Because I admit all of the characters in this show aren’t very... original. But that doesn’t stop me from liking this one character -- the one that had the most screentime this episode, Makoto.
Backstory: I always saw myself liking the more positive, energetic girls. Not too much into the genki (like Minori from Toradora), but along those lines. However, as I’ve watched more anime my tastes spread more towards the kuudere -- AKA the emotionless. It’s pretty evident with my recent best girls: characters like Hifumi (New Game) and Rin (Yuru Camp) are the two big examples. It’s kinda funny if you look at my Favorite Characters list on my MAL page: there’s a pretty big split between the more energetic (Yui, Kanbaru) and the... less so (Hifumi, Megumi, Ema) with no characters really in between (except for Kumiko debatably).
So you can guess that Makoto’s more of the kuudere of the group, and you’d be right. Something about her makes her stand out from the rest of the group though: maybe it’s the #relatable college life and having to look for a job (yay internship search...). She’s one of those characters that when they appear, makes the episode more enjoyable.
That was pretty poorly worded but hopefully you get the gist. Thanks to this one character, I’m continuing to watch this show ranked a low 6 on MAL (a score I don’t really understand tbh).
Best Episode of the Week: Violet Evergarden
Holy. Moly.
This is the type of stuff I expected when I first saw that CM many months ago. First obvious thing: animation. That whole lake scene was beautiful to the eyeballs, and a great climax to the whole storyline of the episode (which I won’t get into because spoilers). I won’t lie when I say I almost was in tears during the whole thing. And the best part is I was super invested in the show. That’s hard to do nowadays, so props to Violet Evergarden for doing its thing.
Speaking of spoilers, HERE’S A HUGE HUGE SPOILER WARNING. YOU’VE BEEN WARNED.
Anyway, dang I didn’t expect Violet to find out about the major’s death so soon. I guess now that they’re actually adapting the light novel now, things are starting to gear into place. I’m excited to see the overarching story and what happens, because I have a funny feeling that the major isn’t actually dead. Just a hunch.
END OF THE SPOILERS
So yeah, this week’s episode got me hyped for the future of Violet. Slow start aside, this show’s been a fun watch up to this point. Can’t wait for more.
And that’s all for this week! Thanks for reading, and I’ll see you in the next post!
