Summary: Hiking was just an activity to get you out of the apartment, the last thing you imagined was ending in a whole different world by touching a jewel. That not being enough you end up meeting seven hybrids, and they all claim you shared the Connection with each of them making you their partner for life.

Notes: Hi! After I posted the third chapter I noticed I have more than 200 followers!!! I truly can't believe it, thank you so much!!! And I decided to write this chapter as fast as I could for a 100 followers celebration, which means the fifth chapter will be a 200 followers celebration along with a one shot from my masterlist. I'm so grateful for the people who keep reading this series and for the new ones who are giving me the opportunity to give them something to read. Likes, reblogs, comments are always appreciated. English is not my first language so pardon me if anything is misspelled or grammatically incorrect. Also the main idea came from a webtoon but I can’t remember it’s name. Enjoy!

Closing the door behind him a very happy leopard stops in front of the elevator to call, once inside he marks the parking lot. Which car should I drive today? Well I'm already late, I should take the smaller one he walks and picks up one of the two pair of keys dangling from his parking space I can't wait to take Beautiful out, just the two of us a boxy smile breaks through with this thought and gets in the car After this shoot I'm gonna pretend to be sick and get back to her quickly.

Thanking to the people who picked up the place for the photoshoot, since it was near the building he lives in, he exists the car and jogs a little bit to meet with his manager, a dog hybrid, waiting for him at the entrance, "Tae, I know you're a really big name in this industry, and thanks to me may I add" Jaehyun says with a silly smile and walking where there was already a lot of people waiting for Taehyung "but you can't be this late to a shoot man" this time is a frown what accompanies his words. "I know hyung, I'm sorry, you know I don't like to waste people's time but something happened yesterday and my phone died so the alarm didn't ring and I had to make breakfast but didn't have groceries so everything was a bit chaotic".

Once they're in front of the crew, Taehyung says out loud "I'm sorry everybody, I didn't mean to be this late" "It's okay, I mean you're THE Kim Taehyung you can be as late as you want" says a young leopard hybrid coming way to closer for his liking, like she almost wanted to touch him, so he takes a step back "I'm sorry Director, it won't happen again" he says bowing at her, which makes the girl blush "Um, Tae, she's no…" Jaehyun stars but gets interrupted "She's not the director Taehyung, it's me, she works with the make-up department" a slighter older fox hybrid walks towards Jaehyun and him "Oh, I'm sorry for being late Sir" he bows again, but this time at the right person "I know you're a big name but it can't happen again while we do this campaign" "It won't I swear" Taehyung says with his anima ears twitching nervously and his human ears red from embarrassment, at this the Director chuckles "It's okay, go get changed and then go to make-up while we set up things to start the shoot" he points at a girl who raises her hand She must be from the costume's department thus Taehyung walks behind her until they get to the dressing room.

"Hi Mr. Kim, I'm Danny and I'll be helping you during this campaign with what you'll be wearing" "Thank you Danny, and you can call me Taehyung, Mr. Kim sounds way to formal for my liking" he smiles gently at her Wow he is even more handsome in person and the rumor of him being a sweetheart are true, thank you universe for already having a partner otherwise I would probably be acting like the girl from make-up "Sure thing Taehyung" she says with red cheeks "These are the clothes you're gonna be wearing for this particular shoot" Danny shows him the main show of the shoot, a pair of underwear, with a pair of jeans and a jacket, both in denim "Okay" the leopard goes behind a curtain to change himself "If you need anything, I'm here" Danny says in a more professional tone "I actually have a question" he says while taking off his shirt "Sure, is anything not your size?" "No, it's not about the clothes or the shoot" "Oh" she says more relaxed "Sure" You're human right? I mean I didn't smell anything particular from you, except a faint smell of giraffe" he rushes his explanation in fear of offending her while almost falling from taking off his pants, she chuckles at this "Yes, I'm human and the scent you're smelling is my partner, it's faint because he's away on business, may I ask why are you asking this?" "It's just that I found my partner and she's also human and I wanted to know how can I court without scaring her, both my parents are hybrids so I don't know if I should do something different" a fondly smile forms on his lips by the mere thought of you "Well" she laughs a little "Andy was very forward, we crossed paths at a coffee shop and as I was exiting he screamed Wait! I think you're my partner to the entire shop and I genuinely thought that wasn't directed to me so I just walked out but he followed me and tapped my shoulder and told me the thing he just screamed was aimed at me, so we sat and started talking. I think everyone in this world knows they're destined to someone therefore you shouldn't be afraid of scaring" she finishes at the same time he pushes the curtain already changed That's the thing, I don't think she knows about the Connection which is so weird but he doesn't let his thoughts reflect on his face, instead he smiles at Danny "Thank you, you were very helpful" "Okay, let me see you" she turns on her job face "Please turn around" she hums looking for something that may stand out in the wrong way "I think you look great, the jacket is not too big, the boxers are up enough to see the brand but your abs can also be seen, and the jeans make your thighs look great, and this denim makes you ears stand out in very nice way. You're ready to go to make-up Taehyung" she smiles at him "Thank you Danny" he waves at her, exiting the dressing room.

"Hi handsome" someone says as soon as he exits, scaring him a little. Turning to look at the person who startled him, he finds the same leopard girl he thought was the director "Hey Taehyung, I was just coming to get you to take you to make-up" Jaehyun approaches but stops when spotting the girl "What are you doing here?" he asks "I'm here to pick him up" "The director told you to wait by your room, thus I'm asking again, what are you doing here?" "I'm just trying to show initiative, that's all" she answers with a fake sweet smile "Let's just go, yeah? We're already behind schedule because of me I don't want to keep delaying everything" Taehyung intervenes. "Yeah, you're right Tae…Lady, please take us to the make-up room" Taehyung puts himself between the wall and Jaehyun, just to be safe from the girl, watching this the girl frowns because she wants to be next to him Especially if he's wearing something so tempting. The three get to the room full of make-up suitcases "Okay, we're already you can leave now" she smirks at Jaehyun "You know make-up artists have to be alone to do the job quickly and without errors" Jaehyun growls a little bit at her but knows he can't do anything because she's right "Tae, call me if you need anything" he looks at the male leopard like saying If this crazy girl throws herself at you call me at which Taehyung only nods, and Jaehyun takes his leave.

"Okay Tae, you can sit here" she purrs the words in an attempt to sound sexy "Please don't call me Tae, only people close to me can call me that" Taehyung says in a deeper and strained tone of voice, one he uses when he's not comfortable or mad, dreading being with her and sitting in front of her "Then we can get closer, don't you think?" she trails one of her fingers up his right arm, trying to reach his exposed chest, however a male hand stops her intention "Look I really don't want to say anything to the director about your inappropriate behavior but if you continue I'm not going to have another choice but to talk to him" at this point his chest was vibrating to let out a growl, but he contained himself. Watching his face she felt a little scared but that didn't deterred her purpose This man is going to be mine, he just doesn't know it yet. I mean, we're both leopards, we obviously belong to each other. I have to be more forward with that in mind she sits in his lap, wrap her arms around his neck and brings her face closer to his, watching how her prey open his eyes wide Oh he looks so cute, and he's gonna be mine "Come on Tae, I know you don't have a partner and look at me, we would be incredible together, you're hot I'm hot, we're both leopards, and I'm just feeling this electricity between us, it's incredible" with each word her voice goes lower and her face closer I can't just toss her, it could hurt her and it would make a mess.

"Lia, what are you doing on top of Taehyung?!" A woman's voice wakes up Taehyung from his shock and stands up, trying not to toss the girl with too much force, and turns to find a familiar face "Mrs. Choi?" "Mom! What are you doing here?!" the girl screams at the woman Is she the daughter of one of the best make-up artists? Taehyung thinks "No, the one who asks questions is me. Now, what were you doing on top of him?" "Mom, we're part-" "She sat on top of me! Started touching me and saying crazy things! And we're definitely not partners, I already have one and she's at home!" it's not his intention to almost scream but that's how it comes out, he wants to be clear with anyone who's listening that he already has a partner, a very beautiful partner What? He has a partner? Well, it doesn't matter he's not marked yet which means anything can happen the other leopard in the room thinks "Oh my God Lia, I told you that if you wanted to come with me you had to behave and why was the door closed, you know that until the senior enters the apprentice can't close the door" Mrs. Choi says "Are you the one who's going to do my make-up?" Taehyung says with a hopeful tone, and he's so relieved even his ears stand up in relaxation "Yes, darling. And I'm so sorry for my daughter" hearing her mother say that Lia crosses her arms in frustration If you hadn't enter mom I could've kissed him "Now let's do your make-up quickly Taehyung, after all this isn't the first time we work together" and it's true for most of his shoots Mrs. Choi has been the one does his make-up so, by now, the know what works the best. After 15 minutes Mrs. Choi is finishing his make-up, she really wanted to finish fast after all her daughter couldn't stop looking at Taehyung and trying to touch at very chance she could get, and the boy's obviously very uncomfortable; "There, all done" she says applying a thin layer of gloss to make his lips stand a little bit, Taehyung looks at himself in the mirror in front of him "Thanks Mrs. Choi, as always your work is impeccable" the woman smiles at him "My pleasure Taehyung, will be seeing each other because of this campaign so we'll see each other soon" Taehyung stands up and exits the room listening to something along the lines of "Let's go home young lady, we need to talk about boundaries at a work place" "But m-".

"Tae, you're finally out" Jaehyun starts asking as soon as he sees Taehyung "What happened? Did that girl do something? You know what? Where's the director, he needs to know this" "Hyung, hyung!" Taehyung almost screams but at least gest Jaehyun's attention "She's Mrs. Choi's daughter, apparently wanted to learn about this world" "Mrs. Choi's daughter? But she's so ahhh" Jaehyun makes angelic noise "and that girl was so oohhh" Jaehyun makes scary noises now, which makes Taehyung laugh out loud. Hearing a deep laugh the director approaches the two young men "Taehyung, did you finish? Are you ready?" "Yes Sir" Taehyung immediately stops laughing and transforms it into a serious face "Okay, please put yourself in front of the camera" the older male chuckles softly at the nervousness of the young leopard.

Modeling comes easy for Taehyung since he was recruited at 16 years old people has praised his good looks and how natural he's in front of a camera, however he started his official career at 20 years old and he's been doing it for 5 years now. It pays the bills and lets him have a certain commodity, and now that he found you he knows he can also provide for you as well. Being in front of the camera makes Taehyung sometimes feel weird or even shy depending on the type of shoot he's doing but once he switches on his modeling talent he can only focus on what pose to next so it can come as natural as possible, something many directors like when working with him is that the leopard almost never need directions he knows which are his best poses, his best faces and most importantly knows how to use his body, which angles show, in this case, the clothes better and how can his animal features add to the mix, play with his tail or hide his ears to show something.

Because of how good he is at his job the shoots ends on time, despite Taehyung being late, and now was time to go home There's no way I'm gonna keep working when it's almost noon and Beautiful doesn't have anything to eat "Hey hyung, I'm not feeling well, I think being with that girl really disturbed me, besides I think I ate something that's bloating me. I think I should go home, tell the other shoots we can double the time when we reschedule or the can pay me less" Jaehyun couldn't say anything because Taehyung starts running to the dressing room "Hi Danny" and changes his clothes in a flash "Bye Danny", the leopard runs again and encounter the Director "Great job Director, thank you for everything, have a nice day, I look forward to the next shoot I swear I'll be on time" he bows and runs again towards his car not even paying attention to the "Taehyung's" Jaehyun is screaming.

Once inside his car he makes a plan First I need to buy her a phone, hers is obviously so old it doesn't work anymore, I have to buy one for Jiwoo too because I know how important she's to Beautiful. Second, the both need clothes just a few and the we can go together to buy more. Finally, groceries for the three of us. Parking at the mall, Taehyung goes straight to a store where he can buy the phones, for his Beautiful he buys the same one he has but pink because he saw that many of her things had that color It suits her that color he smiles at the thought, and for Jiwoo he buys same model but white. Outside of the store he looks at the watch on his wrist Damn it, there's not a lot of time adding something more to the list he goes to the food court and approaches to a Italian restaurant and orders 3 lasagnas to take, and while they're making them Taehyung goes to a store for clothes as soon as he sees a clerk similar to your body type he asks her to pick six shirts, two pair of jeans, and 4 pair of shorts It's getting hotter these days with summer approaching, he pays and goes to another store for the underwear where he basically does the same but this time with a very red face and animal ears glued to his head from embarrassment, in this store he pays even faster. He has to accept he must look like a mad man running from one place to another with a lot of bags; he gets to the restaurant and picks up what is gonna be lunch. Running again he sees his car closer and closer, he puts the lasagnas in the front seat and the rest of the bags on the back seat, once inside he takes route to the nearest supermarket around his building.

Getting off the car after parking, he takes a supermarket cart an starts going through the aisles to pick up and put inside the cart the food of his choice I just hope they like what I'm choosing, but I can always bring them with me if she wishes something else. With the supermarket already seen he approaches the cashier and pays and pack everything as fast as he can, looking at his watch once more he notices it's noon Okay I'm close just have to hurry up a little bit he tries to run with difficulty from the heavy grocery bags. This time he puts the bags on the trunk and gets up inside to start driving to the destination he wants to arrive the most Home.

Finally seeing his building he presses the gas a little bit more, once inside the parking lot, he parks next to his other car and takes out all of the boxes that despite being heavy he can carry all of them thanks to the gym and his leopard genes. He walks towards the elevator and calls it, it doesn't take long and it opens its door and he walks inside. Marking the 10th floor, he's almost buzzing with excitement, his tail is wiggling behind him in a happy manner. The elevator chimes and announces it arrived at its destination opening its doors. The leopard exists and runs for his apartment, in front of the door he opens it Finally. "I'm home"

For as long as I can remember, I have been confined to a hospital room, surrounded by the sounds of machines, panicked corridors, and the cries of other patients. My rare condition has left me almost entirely bedridden since birth, and I have never truly experienced the outside world. Despite this, I have an overflowing imagination that has kept me going.

Reading has been my greatest passion, but even that became tiresome after so much time in the hospital. That's when I started creating imaginary characters, including one that I imagined myself to be. Her name is Shilora, and she constantly accompanies me in my dreams and thoughts.

Lately, I have imagined her alive in Operation: True Love, a webtoon that I started reading not long ago. I eagerly anticipate new chapters of the story each week, and I have even begun inventing my own adventures for the characters.

Shilora is everything that I am not, but everything that I would like to be. She is beautiful, with delicate features and long, lustrous hair. I imagine her with an oval face, high cheekbones, and full, soft lips. Her eyes are a deep, brilliant blue, with long, thick lashes that add to their intense, emotional depth. Her nose is small and straight, adding to her delicate beauty, and her lips are plump and soft, with a slight rosy tint that gives her a sensual side in contrast to her innocent eyes.

What I love most about Shilora is her hair. It has been many years since I've had a single strand of hair due to my repeated treatments and operations, so imagining Shilora's long, silky locks always makes me feel better. Despite being confined to my hospital room, my imagination allows me to escape and create new worlds, giving me hope that one day I may be able to experience the real world outside of these walls.

I imagine Shilora's hair as very long, soft, and silky, reaching below her buttocks. The luminous blonde color reflects light in a spectacular way, delicately framing her face and highlighting her natural beauty. Her hair is truly an asset to her, and I like to envision it swaying gracefully behind her back as she walks or fluttering in the breeze.

Shilora has a short stature and a slim, slender figure. Her skin is clear and luminous, with a soft and smooth texture that shows no scars, needle marks, or hematoma from infusions.

Although she can seem fragile and delicate at times, Shilora exudes an inner strength that commands respect and admiration. I wanted her to be a woman of great beauty and grace, with an aura of purity and warmth that draws others to her.

Despite everything, what I love most about Shilora is her freedom. She can run, jump, climb mountains, ski, and fall without worrying about her health. She sings and dances in the rain, laughs in the sun, and cries with the wind. She embodies everything that I cannot be. Sometimes, I wonder what it would be like to be outside these walls, to feel the sun on my face, to run in the grass, to see the stars at night, or even just to stand in the rain.

But I have learned to find joy in the little things in life, like a nurse's smile, a surprise visit from my family, an exciting book, or lively music. I am grateful for everything I have, even though I cannot live a normal life like other people. This has taught me to always be positive and to see the good side of life. I believe that everything happens for a reason, and that one must be patient.

So, I continue to create characters, imagine fantastic worlds, and escape in my thoughts. This is how I feel alive, despite my physical limitations. And who knows, maybe these characters will one day help me get out of this hospital and explore the real world.

...I never thought this day would actually come.

Hello hello sunshine!

I am happy to present my fanfiction to you, I have been trying to do this little project for a while now. I hope I can get to the end of this fanfiction but everything in its time. I will do my best to post the chapters.

So you've probably guessed it, we're going to be in a kind of isekai.I want to clarify, in this story it will be about romance, friendship and above all how life can be great and how much you have to enjoy it. Let's be kind to each other to live without regret! Also, the fanfic will address somewhat heavy subjects such as existential reflections and on the superficial side of people, which is why the beauty of the main character will be enormously put forward.

By the way, do you have any idea why the name Shilora? It is a completely invented first name which has its own meaning, we will know more about it in the chapters to come.

2024 Reading List

So as some of you may know, I am a big reader. I love books, and strive to read as many as I can in a year. I usually hit around the 40 mark, and this year I managed to get to 55. Below is my list of books with a short review.

This year I also challenged myself to read more classics, and a good deal of those are free from the Kindle store, so I managed to get loads to keep me in books for awhile. I also took advantage of Spotify having audiobooks now, so I devoured a good few on there as a result. I do prefer a physical book over either of these options, but they were way more affordable and accessible which was a plus for me.

Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin: I really enjoyed this one, even if I wanted to smack the characters upside the head more than once, and I think the major conflict of the book actually could have been solved by some polyamory. Melancholy in places, but so worth it. 4.5 stars

The Death I Gave Him by Em X. Liu: A Hamlet retelling set inside a lab, where Horatio is an AI, and his relationship with the Hamlet character gets weird. Interesting premise, okay execution. 3 stars.

School Age Care In Canada by Kevin Bisback: I had to read this for school, it was a boring textbook, as most textbooks are. No rating.

The Ocean at the End of the Lane by Neil Gaiman: Man, this one was weird. I'm honestly not the biggest fan of Gaiman's writing and just found this one a little confusing and off-putting. 2.5 stars.

Check Please! Book 1: #Hockey by Ngozi Ukazu: One of my favourite webcomics in book form. If you've read it, you know. If you haven't, it's still up on Tumblr and being uploaded to Webtoons right now, so go give it a look. 4.5 stars.

Heartstopper Volume 5 by Alice Oseman: One of my other favourite webcomics in book form. It's great, go read it again before the next (and last) chapter finishes, or check out the really well done Netflix show. 5 stars

The Shakespeare Oracle Kit: Let the Bard Predict Your Future by A. Bronwyn Llewellyn: So a few years ago my sister gifted me a Shakespeare themed tarot deck. This is the book that goes along with it, explaining the meanings of the cards and the characters assigned to them. A little dry tbh. 3 stars.

A Match for the Marquess by Alexis Pryce: So this is a CaptainSwan fanfic with the serial numbers filed off, written as a WW1 era romance novel. It's enjoyable either way, though after reading the fic, you have a harder time reading it as it's own thing, and some of the conversion could have been better handled. 3 stars.

Egyptian Gods: Discover the Ancient Gods of Egyptian Mythology by Stephen Weaver: Basically an information dump on who the major gods of Egypt were. I found it pretty dry and not very engaging, which is a shame, because I think it's an interesting subject matter. 2.5 stars

My Antonia by Willa Cather: I am finding this book really unmemorable, which is a shame, because I think I enjoyed it while I was reading it. I don't think I was overly fond of either of the main characters though. I think Willa's writing is just not for me. 3 stars.

Grimm's Complete Fairy Tales by The Brothers Grimm: This book was a slog. It was over 600 pages, and I found a lot of the tales I wasn't familiar with repetitive, preachy, and filled with a lot of historical attitudes that today would be considered very Anti-Semitic and extremely racist. 2.5 stars.

The Rose Gate by Hanna Sandvig: A Beauty and the Beast retelling set in modern times with some world jumping and fairies. I usually love fairy tale retellings, but I wasn't wowed by this one, and I wasn't a big fan of the secondary characters. 3 stars.

Stone Heart by Katee Robert: A novella set in an overarching series about Greek gods set in a modern setting. This one is a story about Medusa and Calypso, where Medusa is a contract killer, and Calypso is her mark. I was really hoping to like this, as I want to check out the rest of the series but I left fairly disappointed. We'll see if I come back. 1.5 stars.

Snow so White by C. Gockel: A Snow White retelling, where the handsome prince is Jack Frost, and along with the evil queen, there are also vampires, and magic. A muddled mess of a book, with a cringey romance, and a very confusing subplot with the sister of Jack that I still don't fully get. 1.5 stars.

Animal Farm by George Orwell: I'd say most of you had to read it for school at some point, so you know the story. If not, it's an allegory of the fall of the Russian empire and the rise of communism there. I hadn't read it in probably 20 years, so it was a nice refresher on a story that I remember enjoying, but not loving. 3 stars.

Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen: This was my first time reading this, and I was just kind of meh about it. I love the story, but I think I'd rather watch it as performed by Emma Thompson and Hugh Grant than read it again. 3 stars.

Caging Ella by Andie M. Long: A Cinderella retelling, with vampires! And oh boy does it suck! I had to force myself to finish it, the writing and story is so bad. Definite avoid if you like either genre. 0.5 stars

The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde: I set myself a challenge this year to read more classics and this was one of them. But I found myself disliking the characters, finding the prose overlong and boring, and the story itself not as engaging as I had hoped. A disappointment. 2.5 stars.

Across Dark Seas by Clare Sager: A prequel novella to a pirate series. I really liked this book-I found the setting and characters interesting, the writing well done, and I definitely want to check the series out in future. If you like a swashbuckling heroine, check it out, you can find this one free from the Kindle app! 4 stars.

The Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon: Woof, this book was long, and at times it was hard to keep all the different stories straight as there are multiple different POVs. However I really enjoyed the story, and definitely want to check out the prequel novel and anything else set in this universe. 4 stars.

Making It So by Patrick Stewart: Listened to the audiobook, but still counting it. Honestly this was a very interesting listen, as Sir Patrick has lived a long and interesting life. However, some of his stories made me lose a little respect for him as a person, so go into it with that warning. 3.5 stars.

The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath: To be honest I found this book kind of boring? Like I wasn't really engaged with it, or the characters, and have mostly forgotten it, which speaks volumes. 2.5 stars.

Mick & Moira & Brad by Gerald Everett Jones: Another romantic story where polyamory could have solved a lot, and I went into it expecting some polyam leanings, but nope! Stupid love triangle. However the characters are all so unlikable with so little chemistry I don't know if a threesome or more would have helped. 1.5 stars.

Great Expectations by Charles Dickens: I am gonna confess, I am not a Dickens fan. I enjoy A Christmas Carol, but everything else by him I have read I have ending up not liking and this is no exception. Despicable characters, boring plot. 2 stars.

Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing by Matthew Perry: Another audiobook, and god, that was a mistake. I found it so morbid listening to Matty talk about how he should be dead now that he is, and the slur to his speech made it hard to listen to. This book just made me so sad for the man that was and could have been. In need of major edits, and hard to follow in places. Go in knowing you will feel sad reading it now that he's no longer with us. 3 stars.

Ink and Incantation edited by E.V. Everest: An anthology of YA short stories surrounding books and/or libraries. I found some of the stories really engaging, though none enough that I wanted to read the worlds they were set in, as they focused on minor characters. I did skip one or two that the writing was just really poor. 3 stars.

Pygmalion by George Bernard Shaw: I enjoy My Fair Lady (aside from the end) so I wanted to read the roots of it. The musical definitely adds some much needed character beats, and makes everyone way more likable. The only point I will give this in its favour is having a better ending than MFL. 2.5 stars.

The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald: There is no one great in this story. The characters are unlikable, the plot meandering, and overall, it wasn't for me. 1.5 stars.

Slow Dance by Rainbow Rowell: I wanted to like this book, Rainbow is probably my favourite author. But god I couldn't fucking stand Shiloh, I found the smut to be very poorly written, and the timeline being all over the place very hard to follow. I am so disappointed by this book, a major miss. 2.5 stars.

Infants, Toddlers, and Caregivers by Janet Gonzalez Mena & Dianne Widmeyer Eyer: Another textbook I had to read for a course I'm doing for work. No rating.

Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson: I think I prefer the Muppet version. Or the Treasure Planet version. But if you take a drink every time Silver says "By thunder" then you will be very drunk very fast, so maybe that will improve the dry writing. 2.5 stars.

The Tempest by William Shakespeare: A play by the Bard that I had yet to tackle. Wasn't great, wasn't terrible, would probably enjoy seeing it performed more than just reading it. 3 stars.

Psyche and Eros by Luna McNamara: A retelling of the classic Greek Myth, set amongst the Trojan war. Really well done, though I feel some Classics majors will not like the liberties taken with the story. Overall a good romance though. 4 stars.

The Love of My Afterlife by Kirsty Greenwood: The first half has a lot of second hand embarrassment, but if you can get through it you will get an enjoyable enemies to lovers romance in the end. 3 stars.

A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Future by Michael J. Fox: Enjoyed as an audiobook. Written as something you would give to a recent graduate, full of some advice, some stories, and some reflections on life. 3 stars.

The Communist Manifesto by Karl Marx & Friedrich Engels: One of those books I read to say I did, the ideas are interesting, execution a little dry. 2 stars.

Make Me a Mixtape by Jennifer Whiteford: Honestly got this thinking it would be a good idea for a JatP Au (and it would) but found a delightful romance (even though I do hate the miscommunication trope) and a solid read. 4 stars.

Neon Gods by Katee Roberts: I am always here for a Hades & Persephone retelling, but this one was them in name only with a lot of kinky sex and a mafia undertone I could have done without. Doubt I'm coming back for more of this series. 3 stars.

The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky: Confession time: This is my favourite book of all time and I re-read it every year or so-well over 20 times by now. I still love it just as much as I did when I first read it over 20 years ago. 5 stars.

Dust by Alison Stine: A truly great coming of age novel with some climate change thrown in. I really like how the dialogue reflected the main character's deafness as well-really well done. 4.5 stars.

The Answer Is...: Reflections On My Life by Alex Trebek: Written as a series of vignettes rather than a true autobiography, and like it was written like it should be instead of the want to do so. Plus Ken Jennings is a truly boring narrator. 3 stars.

On Silver Wings by Sydney Winward: A very short little novella featuring enemies to lovers, mythical creatures, and a whole lot of snow. Could do without the instalove out of nowhere, but cute for what it was. 3 stars.

The Sun Also Rises by Earnest Hemingway: I felt like I got plopped into the middle of the story with no real explanation over who the characters were or why I should care about them. All I know is they like to drink, they are all pretty anti-Semitic, and in love with the woman who had no personality other than sleeping around. 2.5 stars.

The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller: Fuck Achilles. No seriously, I have no idea what Patroclus saw in him other than his good looks and massive ego. I enjoyed the story, but I found the romance kind of wanting, and thus the tragedy didn't hit me as hard. 3.5 stars.

Fangirl, Vol 4: The Manga by Rainbow Rowell & Gabi Nam: Fangirl is probably my second favourite book of all time, and I have really enjoyed the manga adaptation. Kinda sad it's over, and it's making me want to re-read the novel again. 5 stars.

Talking To Canadians: A Memoir by Rick Mercer: I have always loved Rick Mercer, so getting to read his memoir was a treat, but this was actually a re-read and I did the audiobook version this time, which brought it to life a little more. 4 stars.

Lore Olympus: Volumes 5-7 by Rachel Smythe: Lumping these three together, but if you like the Hades/Persephone myth, this webcomic is probably the best retelling of it there is. Definite recommend. 4.5 stars.

The Road Years: A Memoir, Continued by Rick Mercer: The reason I re-read the first was so I could finally get to this one. A continuation of Rick's life, though I felt the non-chronological order of the book turned me off a little, and it felt a lot lighter than the first book. Still a great read, but go in expecting less. 4 stars.

A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens: I re-read this one pretty much every year at Christmas, and this year was no different. Though this year I did do the audio book as read by Sir Patrick Stewart as Dickens December is behind an app and I couldn't be bothered to dig out my copy. 4 stars.

Hamlet by William Shakespeare: My favourite play by the Bard (Midsummer's Nights Dream is very close second) and I have read it about 7 or 8 times now. Always enjoyable, even if you wanna shake Hamlet most of the time. 5 stars.

The Importance of Being Earnest by Oscar Wilde: Ah miscommunication and mistaken identities at it's finest. It was stupid and silly, and I honestly enjoyed it more than I thought I would. 3 stars.

The Princess Thieves by Alexander Shaw: I listened to the audio drama, which I think is the superior way to enjoy this story. But if you are looking for a fantasy adventure story set in an alternate England, I highly suggest you check this one out. 4.5 stars.

Life Lessons from a UFO Catcher , an autobiographical manga by Kenny Loui, was such a creative, lighthearted read. Based on Loui’s personal experiences, he bestows life lessons and wisdom that he has gleaned through a fun, colorful manga.

The story’s main character, Kenny Loui, is a self-proclaimed “UFO catcher” alongside his role as a student, teacher, hopeless romantic, and officer. As a UFO catcher, Kenny essentially goes to crane and claw machines to “rescue” as many plushies and stuffed animals as he possibly can. The manga follows him in 13 different episodes as he plays the claw machine and learns many life lessons along the way. For example, in Episode 2 titled “Always Have a Plan”, the scene is set where Kenny is playing the UFO Catcher claw machine. As he enters his money to play, he moves the joystick back and forth, attempting to maneuver the claw to win a pink cat plushie. After pressing the button, he just misses the toy. Upset, he inserts more money and tries again for his victory. The moral of this episode, summarized by Kenny contemplating his next move next to the claw machine, is to always have a plan. As he states, “Don’t just jump in without knowing what you’re going to do.” Similarly to this, the rest of the episodes continue in this fashion.

As a whole, I enjoyed the plot of all the episodes and found them to be cheerful reminders of timeless advice. But, one of the most notable things about this manga was the gorgeous illustrations done by Yamawe. Truly, she outdid herself. With manga, the artwork is such a crucial, make-or-break component of the novel, and I am happy to say she truly made this book unique! Her attention to detail, color, and precision makes this novel come to life. I loved the way she played with pigments to show shadows, light, texture, and emotion on all of the characters and the scenery.

Finally, one of the most innovative things about this Manga was the incorporation of QR codes. Throughout the story, Loui and Yamawe include scenes with a musical component. On these pages, a character asks the reader to look out for the YouTube play icon, as a QR code is included to deliver you to a music video. The character then encourages you to listen to the song as you read, for a full immersive experience. Personally, I absolutely loved how originative this was. Never before has a book asked me to incorporate another sense as part of the experience, and I loved the results! This truly made this book stand out to me for its creativity and uniqueness!

When Loui changes tactics mid-rescue, bully Killian steps in to steal his plushie, prompting Loui’s sage advice that you shouldn’t “ ‘flip flop’ in the middle of executing a plan… [or] you may end up opening the door to victory for somebody else.” That’s the start of a serious rivalry between Loui and Killian, and despite Somi’s efforts to help Loui keep his cool, he eventually loses it—and faces grave consequences afterwards.

Yamawe’s illustrations dazzle the eye while suggesting the narrative’s underlying themes, such as depicting Loui, and Killian’s, inner children, who deliver heightened emotion to some of the story’s more tense scenes. Loui sprinkles mature themes throughout as well, as when he’s momentarily distracted by the racy Gals Attack video game only to end up in an awkward position, prompting him to “stick with UFO catching!” Loui’s choice to include QR codes for a 1980s soundtrack to accompany the story is entertaining, and a fun counterpart to Somi’s moral-heavy philosophizing toward the end.

Little Shark's Outings/ Odekake Kozame -- okay, this is my hands down favorite of the whole summer 2023 anime round up and definitely one of my all time favorites; don't be fooled by the fact that it's a kid's show, for only at a minute and thirty-some seconds, this is pure soul-cleansing wholesomeness so I definitely, highly recommend it!!!
