even if it isn't obvious, he shows it to you.
— rouge x gn!reader
Despite appearances, Rouge kept his grievances to himself. Telling someone stories of himself, and of his past, was something he liked to keep light—to stop the wounds he tried to keep closed from opening once more.
Although, sometimes, he wanted to let loose. To let himself be undone by you and only you but every time he considered it, every time he let himself slip just a little to see your reaction, he found himself pulling back and returning to safe territory.
Scared—that’s the word that would describe how he felt.
What would you think of him?
What would happen?
Countless questions plagued his mind. None of them invited; all of them unanswered.
When he felt your fingers brush against his neck, he shuddered. The last time someone came this close, he pushed them away and ran desperately until his legs gave in.
He lost his voice. Not because he felt like he was being choked, but because you made him so incredibly weak—any word that might come out from his lips died the moment it touched his tongue.
His neck wasn’t wrapped in his usual scarves or bandages. He laid himself bare—the closest he let you get to him so far, even if it didn’t seem like it. The way your fingers wrapped around his neck, pulling him in gently for a kiss, made his breath hitch.
And when you touched the scar on his neck, he felt himself freeze for a split second before melting back into you. It didn’t hurt, it didn’t make him feel sick, and he didn’t push you away.
Touch him again and again, and he’ll let you. In every place, in every nook and cranny of him, he wants you to touch him again—the only person to touch him in the places that mattered most.
Perhaps he’ll let your hand go deeper with time.
