Crazy to me how well the ‘American dream’ worked as a commercial for immigration during the third (and largest) American immigration wave. Wave lasting from 1880 to 1930, all coming from areas of civil war or famine to act as a new lower class to elevate anyone in America that already knew English…

20 million Europeans and a hundred thousand Chinese people in that time. Would love to see some graphs tracking the third wave’s economic classes over 4 generations. If they actually did surpass the people who were already there to begin with (first and second wave) Such a thing would probably be really hard to get data for.

#had to look up the statistics of Chinese immigration..
