We know that the infection progress is gradual and the infected can retain consciousness-or a semblance of it-for quite a while, presenting outer symptoms before the brain functions go.

So yeah. That's Leon battling the infection and Claire trying to make up her mind on whether to shoot him on sight like Marvin said, but then he... Speaks?

Because yeah, for the second card, The Magician, I believe William is fitting. Per various sites, it can stand for resourcefulness, inspired action, skill, but also for wasted talent, cunning, and well - poor planning. Getting himself infected with G so that it's not taken away from him (and mutating into a fleshy eye) doesn't sound like much forethought went into that plan - hence, poor planning.

But look at that eye, it's so cute, despite being yellowy and stuff.
